The PGA Tour competes in its lone, official team event at this week’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Here’s how the tournament at TPC Louisiana works and who is competing.

Field size?

The are 160 players comprising 80 two-man teams.

How are the teams determined?

The Tour goes down its priority rankings. Players who commit to the tournament get to choose their partner as long as they have some kind of PGA Tour status or receive a sponsor exemption.

What is the format?

The teams will compete in fourballs (best ball) in Rounds 1 and 3, and in foursomes (alternate shot) in Rounds 2 and 4.

Is there a cut?

Yes. The top 33 teams and ties after 36 holes will qualify for the final two rounds.

What happens if there is a playoff after 72 holes?

The teams will compete in sudden-death, alternating formats (foursomes on the first extra hole; fourballs on the second extra hole; so forth).

What do the winners receive?

Both men will get a two-year exemption on Tour and spots in the PGA Championship and signature events, as well as next year’s Sentry and Players Championship. It counts as an official Tour win for both players, though, no Official World Golf Ranking points are given.

Players will be paid out in an every-two-spots manner. So the winning team will evenly split first- and second-place earnings ($1,286,050 for each player) and first- and second-place FedExCup points (400 for each winner).

Scottie Scheffler is poised for his fourth win in five PGA Tour starts after opening up a five-stroke lead with three holes to play ahead of Monday's delayed finish at the RBC Heritage in South Carolina.

Scheffler - who won The Masters last week after going back-to-back at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players in March - is at 20 under par after 15 holes at Hilton Head, with 2023 US Open champion Wyndham Clark having set the clubhouse lead at 15 under.

Sahith Theegala (15 holes), Patrick Cantlay (17 holes) and J.T. Poston (17 holes) are also at 15 under late in their final rounds, with Masters runner-up Ludvig Åberg (14 under after 17) and Collin Morikawa (13 after 15) also among the nine players still left to finish.

The world No 1 had eagled the second hole of his round and picked up birdies at five and 13 after starting his Sunday at 16 under par and with a one-stroke advantage over Sepp Straka.

Clark began his final round seven shots adrift but closed to within one stroke of Scheffler at one point after going at eight under across his first eight holes, with an eagle at two the highlight.

However, he then double bogeyed 12 after finding the trees and also dropped shots at 13 and 15 before birdieing 16 and 17 en route to a six under 65 at Harbour Town Golf Links.

Clark - who finished runner-up to Scheffler at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and Players Championship - said of golf's man of the moment: "Everyone is trying to chase Scottie, and he's making it really tough because he keeps winning."

Scheffler has not made worse than par since a double-bogey on his third hole during Thursday's opening round and is poised for his 40th consecutive round of par or better.

He said: "I will just go home as quick as I can, get some rest. I'll treat (Monday) like I'm playing 18 holes, do all my normal prep work and come out here ready to go for the restart."

Tom Hoge suffered a quintuple-bogey nine at the 18th hole after electing to finish his round once the horn to suspend play sounded, tumbling from 14 under par to nine under - and from a tie for sixth to a share of 18th - as he signed for a three-over 74.

Rory McIlroy also shot a three-over 74 to end on seven under for the tournament, with his final round featuring two double bogeys.

2024 RBC Heritage live stream, TV schedule, how to watch online, channel, tee times, radio, golf coverage

There was no rest for the weary with a signature event on tap one week after the masters.

Players have made the short trip from Augusta, Georgia, to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, for the 2024 RBC Heritage. In total, 69 golfers teed it up on Harbour Town Golf Links as yet another signature event on the PGA Tour's playing calendar rolls on.

Unlike the Genesis Invitational or Arnold Palmer Invitational, the RBC Heritage does not feature a 36-hole cut, meaning the entirety of the field will be around for the weekend. That is music to the ears to those who missed out on the weekend action at the Masters, including the likes of Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Wyndham Clark and Brian Harman.

Spieth, the 2022 champion, looks to kickstart his season after a disappointing showing at Augusta National. He is no stranger to bouncing back at the RBC Heritage, following a missed cut at the year's first major championship with a win a week later in Hilton Head. He's not in contention to win this tournament, but he's certainly playing better than he did last week.

This tournament, like the rest on the PGA Tour these days, goes through Scottie Scheffler. The world No. 1 aims to collect his fourth trophy in his last five tournaments, and he holds the 54-hole lead entering the final day of play. Fresh off slipping on his second green jacket, Scheffler has widened the gap between him and the rest of the world and shows no signs of slowing down. Collin Morikawa and Ludvig Åberg -- just as they did at the Masters -- are breathing down Scheffler's neck on Sunday.

Russell is coming off a top 20 in korn ferry tour's lecom suncoast open and has entered this week's veritex bank championship in arlington, texas.

Miles Russell has made national news on CNN, CBS, ABC, NBC and the Washington Post.

Every internationally known golf media outlet wrote about every round the Jacksonville Beach native played in last week's Korn Ferry Tour LECOM Suncoast Classic in Lakewood Ranch, when he became the youngest player to make the cut on the PGA Tour's Pathway Tour, at the age of 15.

"Simply unheard of," said national golf writer Dan Rapaport.

Phil Mickelson weighed in on X, one left-hander to another, in his praise for Russell's performance.

As an indication of the viral nature of Russell's weekend on social media, a video of two of his birdies on Sunday posted by the Korn Ferry Tour had nearly 150,000 views by Monday, and a chart of his stock yardages with each club had more than 112,000 views.

Mickelson's shout-out to Russell had nearly 350,000 views by Monday.

According to Conductor, an enterprise SEO and content marketing platform that tracks keywords on social media, mentions of Russell on social media increased 51 times from the day of the first round of the LECOM Open to the final round.

And now Russell is going to play two — at the Texas Rangers Golf Club in Arlington, Texas, for the Korn Ferry Tour's Veritex Bank Championship, which begins on Thursday.

Russell gets another start with a tie for 20th

While Russell got into the field at the LECOM Classic through a sponsor invitation, he earned his way in this week by tying for 20th at the Lakewood National Commander Course. Russell birdied seven of 10 holes at one point, including four of five, and with a 66 moved to a tie for 48th at the start of the day to a tie for 20th.

The Korn Ferry Tour gives spots in the next event to anyone who finishes among the top-25, if not otherwise eligible. Russell shot four under-par rounds and finished at 14-under 270.

Among the players Russell beat last week were past PGA Tour winners Chad Campbell, Fabian Gomez and Kevin Stadler, and PGA Tour veterans Spencer Levin, Tag Ridings, Doc Redman and Sam Saunders.

"It was an awesome week. It was a blast," Russell said during his post-round interview session on Sunday. "Especially for my first one. You may get a couple weird looks, like, 'Who's the little kid on the range?' But, you know, everybody was so nice and so helpful with everything."

Russell said he's trying to soak in the experience.

"I just try to kind of go with flow and take it as it comes to me," he said. "I'm trying to just stay cool. I was able to hit some good shots in the right moments."

Russell, who has been modest in the past year when his game has taken off to unexpected heights, still said he gained confidence from his experience in a high-level professional event.

"When I play well, I think I can compete with some of the better pros," he said. "But this week I played well and I think it kind of showed it a little bit. But good play is always good, and definitely confidence-boosting to finish where we're going to finish today."

Miles Russell has had a whirlwind eight months

Since Augusta of 2023, Russell has become the youngest to win the Junior Players (and the first resident of the First Coast), won the Junior PGA by seven shots, played in the Junior Ryder Cup and became the youngest to win the AJGA Player of the Year Award.

He leads the American Junior Presidents Cup points list and is one of three Florida players on the first United States Golf Association Junior National team.

Russell has given no indication he intends to turn professional at his young age. He has exemptions to the U.S. Amateur and U.S. Junior and may still have other aspirations in amateur golf such as playing on the Walker Cup.

He cannot be a full PGA Tour or Korn Ferry Tour member until he is 18 years old. He can play through sponsor invitations, Monday qualifiers and categories such as a top 25 on the Korn Ferry Tour and a top 10 on the PGA Tour for subsequent events, but is capped at 12 starts per year, whether he turns pro or remains an amateur.

There is no age restriction on turning professional and accepting prize money. He also can play in major championships. None have an age requirement.

Russell is being home-schooled and is permitted to accept NIL opportunities without jeopardizing his amateur status.

For now, Russell is enjoying the ride. He also said he might not be the last teen-aged prodigy in golf.

"It's a cool record to break," he said. "I don't know how much longer ... people are getting so good, so young. It could hold out for a week, you never know, but it's pretty cool right now."
