My journey in tourism started in 1976 on the Greek Island of Corfu, and for the next 17 years I worked up the ladder from Resort Representative, head rep, Resort manager and from 1985 till 1993, as Area Manager Greece for Owners Abroad Group (First Choice). After 17 years within the tourist industry in Greece I felt the need to open my own incoming agency with the main focus being centered on personal service. I am proud to say that my vision came into being in 1993, and that today we are still sharing this vision with our partners. The youngest of our three main partners has been with us for 22 years…

More About Gene +

Gene Steinmeyer is the proud owner of a new full service travel agency. Legendary Travel will partner with his sports travel agency, Malika Sport Tours, to offer travel services on a national level.

Gene is a 1968 graduate of Wilber-Clatonia High School. He was in education for 39 years, 28 of those as a college women’s basketball coach. In 1983, he coached the Wilber-Clatonia girls’ team to a Class C state championship title. During his college coaching career, his teams played four times in the Final Four, three at Doane University and one at Northwest Missouri State University

Since 2002, Gene and one of his former Doane players, Marissa Maaske, operated Malika Sport Tours. College teams hire Malika Sport Tours to set up events in Hawaii for basketball, soccer and golf. In 2020, softball will be added to the sports line-up.

Gene retired from coaching in 2012, and began running Malika Sport Tours on his own. Until now, he operated the business from Maryville Travel in Missouri.

Starting July 1, 2019, the next leg of Gene’s journey began. Legendary Travel opened an office at 1222 Main Avenue in Crete, Nebraska. With contacts from all over the nation, Legendary Travel will become a national travel agency. If Malika Sport Tours helped you with your Hawaii travels, come to Legendary Travel for the same type of personal services. Legendary Travel looks forward to helping Crete and the surrounding area with any and all travel needs. We look forward to researching your ideas to find exactly what you are looking for.

Jody Rice is the office manager at Legendary Travel. After 30 years in the banking industry, Jody realizes the importance of attending to detail. Her specialty is customer service and greeting everyone with warmth and a smile. She has traveled extensively, both international and domestic, and is always willing to share her travel stories. She likes to explore without an agenda, forever excited to venture off the beaten path. Her motto has become “some day is not a date on the calendar”……a gentle reminder to get that trip booked!
