INSIDER’S TIP: TASTING AND TOUR AT CLOS PEGASE WINERY

Napa Valley was built on big Cabs like Clos Pegase, but the Calistoga winery is more than a place to sip — it’s an architectural marvel too. Designed by Michael Graves, the estate’s tasting room and production facilities are a Postmodernist ode to wine, where you’ll see, smell, and taste this esteemed label’s many acclaimed vintages. After a tour of the vineyards and underground wine caves, enjoy a tasting of current releases paired with local bites.

Plus, Travel + Leisure Wine members can savor an exclusive wine club gift and a complimentary 2-4 person estate flight tasting experience at Clos Pegase, depending upon your membership tier.

INSIDER’S TIP: WINE-COUNTRY FARE AT MUSTARDS GRILL

Napa riverside food & wine tour, insider’s tip: cosentino winery.

A 40-year veteran in Napa Valley winemaking, Cosentino Winery has long been lauded for its innovative spirit — which brought the first designated Meritage to Northern California — and an ethos of coloring outside the lines. Visit the St. Helena Highway winery for a laidback afternoon flight during which you’ll sample the label’s many distinct varietals (both reds and whites) representing the Napa and Lodi regions.

Bonus: Travel + Leisure Wine members can get an exclusive wine club gift, plus a complimentary 2-4 person tasting experience at Cosentino, depending upon your membership tier.

INSIDER’S TIP: FINE DINING AT KENZO NAPA

Insider’s tip: girard winery.

Girard’s Calistoga winery represents a new chapter for the legacy vintner. Established more than 40 years ago, the label opened this state-of-the-art facility in 2018, offering new tasting experiences amid the vines between the Vaca and Mayacamas mountain ranges. Join a private tour of the grounds with one of the estate’s wine educators, followed by a guided flight of Girard’s exclusive bottlings and small lot wines.

Reap the benefits of a Travel + Leisure Wine membership, with an exclusive wine club gift and a complimentary seated tasting experience for 2-4 people at Girard, depending on your membership tier.

The Best Hotels in Napa Valley, From a Stagecoach Stop-Turned-Boutique Hotel to a Luxe Italian-Inspired Stay

By Jennie Nunn

15 Best Hotels in Napa Valley

Northern California's bucolic valley, dotted with sprawling manicured vineyards and more than 400 wineries evocative of Old World European castles and ultra-modern boxy, glass-and-steel estates, can be likened to a fairytale, or a real-life Hallmark movie. Thanks to farmer and fur trapper George C. Yount who first planted grapes in the area in 1839 (Yountville was named after him), the Valley—just an hour north of San Francisco —is a premier destination for world-renowned vintners and celeb chefs including Thomas Keller and Masaharu Morimoto . Comprised of 15 towns from bustling downtown Napa to down-to-earth Sonoma, it's no wonder Wine Country has become a top travel destination for honeymooners , girls' getaways, and even families. And it is having an even larger moment of late—especially downtown Napa, with a slew of new tasting rooms (there are approximately 50 and counting in the city of Napa alone), specialty shops, restaurants, and retail giants coming on scene or doubling in size within the last year or two. Longtime San Franciscans and Bay Area techies have also migrated north, trading frenetic schedules, parking woes, and sky-high rents for solace and country life (myself included).

For visitors planning a trip, there truly are hotels in Napa for every type of traveler, whether it's a former stagecoach stop-gone-boutique hotel that hugs the Napa River near downtown, or an eco-luxury property in Yountville paying homage to its original Italian-born owners. Here, we present the top 15 resorts and hotels in Napa Valley.

At the nightly wine hour, sample wines from hand-selected local vintners, and after dinner, pick up a complimentary s'mores kit to roast marshmallows to perfection by an outdoor firepit.

The LEED Platinum–certified sanctuary is divvied up into Spa suites (ideal for couples with 800 square feet of space including a fully-enclosed furnished courtyard or patio); Steam Spa suites with an indoor shower-gone-steam room and an outdoor shower; and Tufa suites akin to wine country townhomes with massive living rooms, abstract art, and outdoor patios with flat-screen TVs.

Designed by San Francisco–based interior designer Suzanne Tucker , maison rooms and villas resemble light-and-airy French chateaus with light oak floors and hand-carved headboards, while the newly reconceived bar and Michelin-starred restaurant also reflect Tucker's touch with bronze-framed floor-to-ceiling doors and windows to accentuate sweeping valley views. In the Parc du Soleil sculpture garden, explore more than 100 works by 60 California artists, or soak up the rays by a 72-foot-long ozone pool that uses a water-purification system to reduce harsh chemicals and pathogens.

Napa Valley Lodge and Spa.

3. Napa Valley Lodge

Napa Valley Lodge is a quiet respite near the north end of town, which does not claim to be a resort or a bed and breakfast. Napa Valley Lodge is locally owned and operated. The management is concerned with providing each guest with personal service and a unique experience. The lodge’s Tuscan flair is evident in the room design and the courtyard area. Guests will often use Napa Valley Lodge as a base camp to explore Yountville and the Napa Valley .

The lodge does not have a restaurant or a bar. What they offer are comfortable rooms, some with fireplaces. There are also suites available. Veranda rooms with wood-burning fireplaces are a wonderful touch that creates an intimate experience. Guests love the courtyard area, which has hammocks and a pool to enjoy. A morning buffet is served each day for all guests, and a short walk will bring you to several Michelin-starred restaurants.

Take advantage of the spa for a facial or massage, or go for a ride on one of the hotel bicycles. A tandem bike is available on a first-come, first-served basis, and there are regular bicycles available as well. A charging station for electric vehicles is also on-site.

After making a reservation, you will receive a call a few weeks before your stay to assist with whatever might be needed. Many guests come back regularly, and Napa Valley Lodge strives to learn who their guests are and what they want to see and do during their stay. Excellent, caring customer service is a priority for management and staff.

Pro Tip: Each afternoon at 3 p.m., the lodge provides fresh-baked cookies for the guests. The cookies are so popular that they are usually gone in a few minutes. If any cookies are unclaimed, a text message is sent to all guests, alerting them so they don’t miss out!

North Block Hotel.

4. North Block Hotel

Located ideally for food and wine lovers, North Block Hotel is a short stroll to Yountville’s finest restaurants and fabulous wine tasting venues. A small but intimate boutique hotel of 20 rooms, North Block offers its guests fantastic service and a quiet, comfortable room for their stay.

Guest parking is plentiful on the side of the hotel. There is no valet service, but charging stations for electric vehicles are available.

Maison Fleurie French Country Inn.

5. Maison Fleurie — A French Country Inn

Maison Fleurie is a beautifully restored and curated building, initially constructed in 1873 as the Magnolia Hotel. Stone from local quarries supplied the materials to build the hotel. Maison Fleurie is the oldest hotel in the Napa Valley.

After years of disrepair, the Magnolia Hotel was purchased and renovated in 1993. Designers were careful to preserve the old stone. The new owner acquired many items decorating the interior during her travels to France. Lavish gardens around the property are brimming with roses and other beautiful blossoms, which led to the hotel’s new name of Maison Fleurie – which translates to “flowering house.”

Maison Fleurie Fireplace.

Enjoy daily breakfast and an afternoon snack of wine and cheese (a guest favorite) while you lounge on the roof terrace with a grand view of the mountains and vineyard across the street. Swim in the pool or enjoy the hot tub. Bicycles for guests are available. The hotel is in a residential area and perfect for exploring on bikes or foot. Bouchon Bistro, Bouchon Bakery, and Hope & Grace Wine Tasting are behind the hotel. La Calenda Mexican Food (a Thomas Keller restaurant) is right next door.

This charming 13-room French Inn is centrally located, has a friendly and helpful staff, and will leave you with many memories of a fantastic stay in beautiful Yountville, California.

Pro Tip: The hotel does not have an elevator. Climbing the stairs with luggage may prove difficult for some people. Be sure to discuss any special needs with the reservationist.

All hotels in Yountville are focused on customer service. Yountville has so much to offer, and the hotels know whom to call and where to go so you can make memories to last a lifetime!

Quick Travel Guide  •  Yountville, California, USA, North America

Yountville: a guide about where to stay, wine and dine, last updated on: may 22, 2023.

Yountville is a picturesque town nestled in the heart of Napa Valley’s Wine Country. Located only an hour outside of San Francisco and a quick flight from LA , this luxurious getaway is the perfect place to spend a relaxing long weekend. Most people who come here have two priorities— food & wine —and with this quick guide to Yountville , we will give you just that and more.   Yountville’s small-town charm, Michelin Star restaurants, small-production wine tasting rooms, and picturesque vineyard views attract people from near and far and though many only come for the day, I highly recommend staying for at least one night.   While Yountville is not short on accommodations, we can not stop talking about our stay at the North Block Hotel. The intimate courtyard accompanied by the soothing sound of the fountain, the lush vines growing over the walls, and hand-painted tiles are all reminiscent of the romance found in Italy.   Alongside its chic B&B’s, elegant inns, and upscale boutique hotels there is more to explore than just wineries. Yountville is home to private art exhibits, museums, galleries, and even winery art installations, for those who want to combine the best of both worlds.

What To Do In Yountville

1. Discover The Art Walk: Enjoy an impressive collection of over 65 outdoor sculptures carefully placed along the main stretch of Yountville . Most pieces are actually for sale and support art-related events and activities.   The North Block Hotel is located right at the end of the walk, making it the perfect starting point to follow the Art Walk from the end to the beginning. If you don’t feel like walking, hop on one of the complimentary cruisers offered at the North Block Hotel , and off you go.   Click here for a printable Art Walk Map .

2. Take A Hot Air Balloon Ride There is hardly a better place than Napa Valley to tick off a memorable hot air balloon ride from your bucket list. This is not only the perfect anniversary gift, surprise, or birthday present but a unique way to see Napa Valley from a birds-eye view.   Imagine waking up before sunrise to witness each hot air balloon gain its impressive size before watching the gentle giants float gracefully into the dawn. There is nothing quite like the feeling of being lifted off the earth by a hot air balloon. Standing in a wicker basket watching as the objects below get smaller and smaller as you float into the sunrise is simply magical. For the most elevated experience look no further and book with Napa Valley Aloft Balloon Rides .

3. Enjoy A Wine Tasting: With over 400 wineries in Napa Valley , finding the perfect one for you can get quite overwhelming. Depending on your personal taste you can choose between 60 min tastings to as long as 3 hours .   While some wineries use tasting bars, others will offer a seated tasting incorporating light food such as chocolate or cheese. Prices usually vary depending on the winery; however, you can expect to pay around $35 - $65 per person for basic tasting and $65 - $125 per person for more extravagant food & wine pairings.   Keep in mind that most wineries require a reservation upfront so make sure to pick your favorites as soon as possible and plan ahead. There is nothing more annoying than getting to Napa Valley and all the nice vineyards are booked out. However, should you decide on embarking on a last-minute wine tasting experience, the front desk at the North Block Hotel would be happy to help you find the perfect tasting room.   Visit Napa Valley has also put together the perfect guide to help you find the best winery based on your personality and taste.

Here you will find Sterling Vineyards. Perched 300 feet above the town of Calistoga , you will first hop on an aerial tram taking you up the hill to the winery . The architecture of this stunning estate is comparable to the white buildings found in Greece and while you can participate in a private seated tasting we recommend the Signature Experience. This is basically a self-guided Sip & Stroll tour that takes you through the different production sites of the winery. Not only do you get to enjoy the scenic views while enjoying a great selection of wines, but you also learn how wine is made one wine glass at a time.   Reservations are recommended - Click here to book

The easiest and most convenient way to get around Napa Valley is by car . Although once you reach Yountville and check into your hotel such as the North Block Hotel which is conveniently located in the heart of this small town, you won’t be needing your car anymore since everything will be walking or biking distance.   Should you decide on staying at the North Block Hotel , then there is no need to worry about driving, since the hotel is perfectly situated within walking distance to a broad selection of wineries offering everything from local to international wines.   For visits to nearby wineries for a tasting, we recommend making use of the region's rideshares. 10 Best Restaurants in Yountville:

Do you enjoy carefully selected wines or simply appreciate good food, then you have come to the right place. Classics such as The French Laundry, RH Yountville, and Bouchon Bistro, are some of the most desired venues in all of Napa Valley. Due to the outstanding service, wine selection, and an unmatched hint of luxury, the restaurants of Yountville have become quite popular.

Southside Cafe

A beautiful cafe and coffee bar in Napa Valley, serving real California cuisine. While this community-centered cafe house has a total of three locations, the Southside Cafe in Yountville is the only one featuring a stunning outdoor courtyard located within the property of the Stewart Cellars and open from 8 am - 2 pm daily. Stop by for breakfast, lunch, or simply grab a coffee to go.  If you are looking for dinner and freshly blended juices then head to their sister property at Southside Century located in South Napa.

Bouchon Bistro

Bouchon Bistro offers French bistro fare with Thomas Kellers unfailing love to detail in both the ingredients and presentation. The flashy yet elegant restaurant is a low-fare version of the French Laundry and almost a must when visiting Yountville. Choose between the outdoor patio, the chic indoor dining room, or get it delivered right to your room at the North Block Hotel.

The French Laundry

The French Laundry, a Thomas Keller’s three-Michelin-starred restaurant, is housed in a two-story stone cottage that used to operate as a French steam laundry, hence the name. There are two tasting menus offered (meat & vegetarian), combining the best of locally sourced ingredients with the fresh harvest from the garden. Expect visual masterpieces during each course and let your senses take in the tasteful gastronomic explosions. The restaurant is open seven nights a week for dinner, but expect to book at least 2-months in advance . Last-minute reservations can be tricky to get and almost impossible. Check Tock to snatch your online reservation. If nothing is available, make sure to join the waitlist, maybe you'll get lucky.   Tip: For the full experience, we recommend arriving early enough to take a stroll through the gardens located just across the street. French Laundry also offers kitchen tours, simply ask your waiter and he will be happy to show you where the chef carefully curates his meals.

Ad hoc+ addendum

A casual indoor dining venue in Yountville by Chef Thomas Keller . The restaurant was inspired by his childhood and therefore serves typical American comfort food with a twist . The daily changing menu keeps the kitchen on its toes and the customers coming back time and time again. If you’re interested in trying Thomas Keller’s cuisine but are looking for something more casual and affordable than this option is for you!   Addendum offers a landscaped picnic area located just behind restaurant . The garden is open from Wednesday-Friday (3pm-7pm) and Saturday-Sunday (11am-5pm) . We recommending ordering the famous buttermilk fried chicken and enjoying the picnic tables.

Coqueta Yountville offers a nice outdoor patio and serves traditional Spanish tapas with a hint of California cuisine. Perfect for lunch or dinner.

Gott's Roadside

A casual American Roadside Diner . While this diner is not in Yountville it isn't far of a drive. This might be just the right place for a pit stop when craving typical American comfort food. I personally love these old school diners with the big flashing signs and bright red colors. We stopped by on our way to Yountville and let me tell you, it is worth it. Sometimes all you need is a tasty burger and fresh french fries . They have a multitude of locations, such as Napa, St. Helena, San Francisco and more.

Model Bakery

This historic Bakery has been serving locals and visitors for a proud 90 years. Choose between a wide variety of artisan bread, pastries, and divine breakfast sandwiches. The English muffins are a legend here, so whatever you do, try them. They are crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside... Do I have to say more?! This is the perfect place to treat yourself when exploring Yountville on foot. Their flagship store is on the Main Street location in St. Helena, with another branch at Oxbow Public Market in Napa and its newest Mini Model addition in Yountville .

Bouchon Bakery

The Bouchon Bakery has truly made a name for itself and for good reason. If you are looking for divine pastries look no further. Don't let the line discourage you, it goes quickly. For the perfect picnic addition, grab one of their Walnut Batard, Bouchon Brownies, and their tasty rice crispy treats with a twist, also known as Fuggedaboutit .

Yountville: A Guide About Where To Stay, Wine and Dine | Bare Escape

An Italian restaurant offering more than "just" heavenly wood-fired pizzas . This charming family-owned Italian restaurant is carefully placed in a renovated 1916 Market Store . Most ingredients come directly from their own Altamura Ranch & Vineyards. The restaurant doesn’t take reservations and is particularly popular for dinner, so make sure to get there just before it opens to get a nice table.

RH Yountville

An absolute one of a kind dining experience , spoiling all your senses. Sit in the outdoor courtyard speckled with heritage olive trees and enjoy a romantic and chic atmosphere. Meander through the gallery and admire the spectacular Chandeliers and water features. RH offers an international and ingredient-driven cuisine accompanied by a great selection of artisanal wines.

Where to Stay in Napa Valley: California Wine Country's Best Luxury Hotels

Get ready to plan the ultimate getaway.

travel and leisure yountville

For as long as I can remember, Napa Valley has been synonymous with a thoroughly American style of casual luxury. And it's not limited to one particular part of the region: The best area to stay in Napa Valley is, frankly, anywhere. Downtown Napa hotels have helped to revitalize the city, as have a new generation of restaurants and bars. (For a taste of the energy infusing Napa these days, make sure to check out Compline , the wine bar, restaurant, and retail shop helmed by master sommelier Matt Stamp and former Charlie Trotter's wine director Ryan Stetins. The extensive list of wines by the glass and bottle ranges from unusual grape varieties from the Canary Islands to unexpected gems like a 2004 Rosso di Valtellina; and the menu, by executive chef Jammir Gray, is designed with the single-minded goal of pairing with wine. To that end, the bavette steak sings alongside pretty much whatever red you choose to sip, and dishes like the gnocchi Parisienne bring out the umami in your glass with gusto.)

But Napa Valley luxury hotels and dining aren't limited just to downtown: From the small-town charm of Yountville to the more rustic appeal of Calistoga, 5-star hotels in Napa Valley are both plentiful and often charmingly idiosyncratic in design and philosophy. And they keep on coming! In 2021, The Four Seasons Resort & Residences opened in Calistoga and more luxury hotels are on the way. Just don't let the actual star rating of a property dictate your decision-making: Some of the most beloved Napa Valley resorts achieve a supremely high level of luxury, despite their lack of formal recognition. The trick is to keep an open mind and do your due diligence. Below are some of the best places to stay in Napa Valley.

Archer Hotel Napa

Few hotels are as emblematic of downtown Napa's resurgence as the Archer Hotel Napa , which opened in 2017. It's a five-story hotel with an energetic scene in the lobby, 183 rooms throughout, and the Sky + Vine Rooftop Bar overlooking the twinkling lights below.

Auberge du Soleil

The French name here isn't pretense: Auberge du Soleil was always intended to channel Provence, and in the more than three decades since it's opened, it's been doing just that. With 33 acres of oak and olive-tree-dotted grounds, and an on-site Michelin-starred restaurant that the guide called "one of the first restaurants to elevate the Napa Valley to greatness," Auberge has become synonymous with the kind of Napa idyll that visitors dream of.

Bardessono has been open for over a decade, and while it may not have the same historical roots as some other Napa luxury resorts and spas, it makes up for it with a deep commitment to the kind of mindful relaxation that visitors to the Valley crave. Organic linens are used throughout the LEED-certified property, close to a thousand solar panels provide much of the electricity, the spa is considered to be one of the best in the region, and the rooms include a selection of "spa suites" that allow guests to revel in relaxation without having to leave.

Hotel Yountville

The first morning I woke up in my cozy room at Hotel Yountville , I faced a serious conundrum: To stay in my magnificent four-poster bed for an extra hour, generally reveling in the fact that I was, well, in a magnificent four-poster bed, or head on out and walk to the nearby Bouchon Bistro . In the end, the promise of multiple bacon, white cheddar, and chive scones won out, but just barely. Regardless, Hotel Yountville is perfectly situated to be a center of gravity for your Napa adventures and offers all the high-end details you'd require. Think humongous bathrooms, common areas that you'll actually want to spend time in, and the vaunted Heritage Oak restaurant on site.

Indian Springs

Up in Calistoga, Indian Springs brings together a historic property with the kind of modern touches that visitors demand in a luxury Napa getaway. The original spa was built in 1861 at the site of the local thermal geysers and mineral springs, but of course, a lot has changed since then. In 2015, the resort added 75 guest rooms to its 17 acres, as well as Sam's Social Club restaurant, which is also, as I discovered during a recent stay, a great place for a quiet sunset cocktail. Indian Springs seems to perfectly embody the kind of casual elegance that Calistoga stands for.

Meadowood has long been considered one of Napa's top destinations, and for good reason. No matter which of the rooms or cottages you stay in — I love the proximity of the Lawnview Rooms to the Reception Lodge and three-Michelin-starred restaurant, but the blissful sense of peaceful remove that washes over me in an Oakview Room, closer to the tennis courts, is difficult to turn down — you'll be ensconced in the kind of unselfconscious luxuriousness that Meadowood is known for. Everything is taken care of here: Chauffeured golf carts to get you to and from your accommodations, a golf course, croquet, well-marked hiking trails on site (the property is located on 250 lush acres), and more. The world-class spa features an extensive menu of services and treatments, and complimentary fitness classes for guests are available. Meadowood's reputation has been built on providing an elevated, deeply comfortable experience for its guests, and in the three times I've been fortunate enough to stay there, it's never once fallen short of that ideal.

The Meritage Resort and Spa

With an address on Bordeaux Way, the 322-room Meritage Resort and Spa is a longtime favorite of visitors. No wonder: There's a spa set in an underground cave, a private vineyard, bowling on site, and a huge range of rooms and suites appropriate for any taste and budget. And in true resort fashion, there are lots of dining and drinking options on the grounds, which means you can taste as much as you want and not have to worry about the drive home.

Milliken Creek Inn & Spa

This Yountville property is all about pampering: Go from your rain shower (or your hydrotherapeutic tub) to a canopy bed in order to recover from a day of visits to the nearby wineries that have made the region famous. There are only 12 rooms at Milliken Creek Inn , which means that every last detail has been considered and perfected. You can even book an "experience" as opposed to just a room — the California Dreaming package, for example, includes wine and cheese tastings, freshly baked cookies, fireside s'mores, and more.

The first time I saw the Poetry Inn was during a visit to Cliff Lede, whose Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon is one of my perennial favorites. There it was, clinging to the hillside, peaceful yet dramatic in its setting. Turns out that the Poetry Inn is aptly named: It feels like walking into some sort of hyper-civilized dream. Rooms span from 950 square feet to a house-sized 1,450 square feet and include a private terrace, showers inside and out — if you've never showered al fresco, this is definitely the place to do it — and, in the case of the rooms I visited, a bathroom that I genuinely feared I'd get lost in.

Thanks to an impressive $30 million renovation in 2021, there are a few more reasons to luxuriate at Solage . The redesign unveiled 11 newly built cottage-style suites — each one with its own private outdoor patio, shower, and soaking tub — as well as updated dining spaces. The perennial favorite resort can arrange thoroughly unique experiences throughout the region — think wine tasting at Turnbull while surrounded by nature photos by Ansel Adams, a bike tour of the Silverado Trail, and more. No matter what you do, make sure to take full advantage of Solbar, the globally inspired, locally tied restaurant helmed by chef Gustavo Rios, as well as Picobar, the resort's newest dining space, where Rios creates Mexican dishes that draw upon his upbringing in Baja California.

Yountville Travel Guide

Wine country is one of my favorite places to visit, and Yountville is quickly becoming one of my favorite spots to stay in wine country. Today I’m sharing a Yountville Travel Guide including where to eat, drink & stay.

Yountville Travel Guide / Glitter & Gingham

Happy Wednesday y’all! I am so excited to recap my trip to Yountville, CA, today! I jetted off to the west coat with the Lola & Ivy team last week for a fun client getaway. I have been a client of Lola & Ivy since May of 2018. They’re a California based Influencer Management company that handles most of the behind the scenes, business side of Glitter & Gingham. I am so grateful to be a client of theirs, and love getting together once a year to spend time together as a group. You might remember I was in Healdsburg, CA, around this time last year, & that was for the same reason !

Lola & Ivy planned such an incredible trip for everyone. It made for such an amazing week, and has me dying to venture back to wine country ASAP. Today I am sharing where we stayed, how I liked Yountville, where to eat, what wineries to visit & more!

Yountville Travel Guide / Glitter & Gingham / Lola & Ivy

Yountville, CA:

If you’re venturing to wine country I cannot recommend Yountville enough. It is such a charming area y’all. It’s a small little slice of wine country, but worth the stay for sure. A lot of restaurants, shops & tasting rooms are within walking distance of each other, which makes the logistics of getting around SO much easier. Wine country is pretty spread out, so if you’re not careful you can end up wasting a lot of time traveling from winery to winery. Staying in Yountville makes for a great centralized location. You’re just a 15 minute drive to downtown Napa, 8 minutes from Rutherford & 15 minutes to St. Helena.

Hotel Yountville / Glitter & Gingham

Where to Stay:

Hotel Yountville : We had the opportunity to stay at Hotel Yountville, and it did not disappoint. It is quaint and charming and chic at the same time. They are in the process of updating a lot of their rooms, and the new rooms are gorgeous y’all. Sadly we didn’t have an updated room, but we got to see a few of them and they are so nice. I love that each room has its own little patio & fireplace.

I cannot recommend this hotel enough y’all! Not only is it gorgeous, the staff was so kind throughout our stay. Service goes such a long way, and I can’t say enough good things about the staff at the hotel.

I am dying to go back & stay when it is warm because they have the most stunning pool area.

Where to eat in Yountville / Glitter & Gingham

Where to eat:

  • Bottega : We had dinner here our first night in town. I was so excited to eat here because I heard the food was amazing. While the food was delicious, the service was atrocious. Our waiter was beyond rude to use & barely stopped by to see if we needed anything. Dine at your own risk. If you do decide to go, make sure you order the single ravioli & the cauliflower!
  • Southside Cafe : On our first morning in Yountville we wanted to get out of the hotel & grab some breakfast. I was so pleasantly surprised to see it was located next to Stewart Cellars! Their tasting room was one of my favorite stops the first time we ventured to wine country. We all loved our breakfast. I got the Superfood bowl, and the other gals got avocado toast.
  • Coqueta : I am all for a tapas restaurant! The Sis Kiss hosted an amazing dinner here our second night in Yountville. The food & drinks were great! It is a small space, so if they take reservations definitely make one in advance. It looked like they had a great patio too, sadly it was too cold to eat outside when we were there.
  • Bouchon Bakery : If you’re looking for incredible pastries or grab & go coffees, definitely pop into this Thomas Keller classic. I had an oat milk latte & a croissant and they were amazing! There is no inside seating just fyi, but there were a few benches & tables outside you could utilize. I also hear that the restaurant Bouchon is really good!
  • Red Wood : We had the most incredible pasta & pizza from Red Wood for dinner one night. The cocktails were great too! I think there is something for everyone on their menu.
  • Farmstead at Long Meadow Ranch : Located in St. Helena, and just a 15ish minute uber from the hotel, Vici threw us an incredible brunch here. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was great. If you’re in the area I would definitely recommend dining here.

travel and leisure yountville

Where to Wine Taste:

There are SO many different wineries throughout wine country, and the two that we visited during our trip were two I would totally recommend & go back to! We also had the chance to sample some wines from a few tasting rooms.

  • Round Pond Estate : This was hands down my favorite winery we went to during our trip. It was a short ride from our hotel which was nice. The property was GORGEOUS, and their rosé we sampled was my favorite wine of the trip. They have this great terrace area with lounge seating with umbrellas & heat lamps to ensure you’re comfortable regardless of the weather. This will definitely be on my list of places I want to revisit.
  • Paraduxx : This winery is part of the Duck Horn family. We had such a lovely tasting experience, and the lady that helped us was so fun & knowledgable. we sat inside due to weather, but the property has a gorgeous outdoor area that would be so fun in the warmer months. This was also a short drive from our hotel.
  • Girard : We popped in this tasting room before dinner at Coqueta. The Yountville location was super close to our hotel, which was so nice. It was a great way to kick off our first night in Yountville.
  • Handwritten : Handwritten provided tastings for us while we were touring Bardessono’s new villas and they were delicious. They just opened a new tasting room in Yountville & it looks amazing!

See more winery favorites here & here !

That’s a wrap y’all! Keep reading for some of my favorite behind the scenes photos & outfit details!

Montage Los Cabos

Located on Santa Maria Bay in Los Cabos, Mexico, Montage Los Cabos has 122 guestrooms, suites, and casas, as well as 52 residences. Here, you’ll find fresh Baja-inspired cuisine — and, if your timing is right, the annual grey and humpback whale migration.

The restored 19th-century manor in Lamego, Portugal has 71 guest rooms with panoramic views of the Douro river, private balconies, and wooden bridges leading to tranquil, secret gardens.

Grace Hotel, Auberge Resorts Collection

This top 10 best resort in Europe, according to our 2023 World’s Best Awards, lies in the heart of Santorini’s Imerovigli village. Whether you’re in the infinity pool or in the comfort of your private villa, it’s impossible to miss the bright orange sunset that sets its light over the Aegean Sea.

The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua

Deeply rooted in Hawaiian history, The Ritz-Carlton Maui , which underwent a $100-million renovation last year, centers its design around the location’s culture and maintains the nearby Honokahua Preservation Site (a recognized wahi pana , or sacred site, where about 2,000 Hawaiians were buried between 610 C.E. and 1800 C.E.).

Nayara Tented Camp

If you’ve ever been to La Fortuna, Costa Rica, you know it's one of the most magical natural places in the world. At Nayara Tented Camp , not only can you revel in the surrounding biodiversity with highly trained naturalist guides, but after a busy day of sightseeing, you can return to your spacious tent with a private pool fed by the volcano’s mineral hot springs.

According to Travel+Leisure’s most recent publication, the Four Seasons Resort Peninsula Papagayo and Silvestre Nosara Hotel & Residences, located in Guanacaste, are among the best 100 hotels in the world.

These are the only ones in Central America and one of the few in Latin America featured on the list. Both ranked 9th and 19th, respectively, in the category “Best International Resorts of 2023.”

About the Four Seasons Resort Peninsula Papagayo, Travel + Leisure details that this resort underwent heavy investment that concluded last year with the remodeling of its facilities. These improvements included an expanded children’s club, an adults-only infinity-edge pool with cabanas and rental chairs, and a beach club.

Magazine contributor Samantha Leal was in charge of visiting the Four Seasons hotel, where a night’s stay costs $1,200, as she noted in the text. She noted she liked the Virador Beach Club, with delicious Mediterranean cuisine and a neutral palette.

Leal highlighted the “wellness shala,” which is a serene tree house that looms over the resort and overlooks the water. The writer also enjoyed the spa, with its relaxing sounds of nature, massages, and hydrotherapy pools.

She was never bored as the hotel offers countless activities such as golf on the Arnold Palmer-designed 18-hole green, local rum tastings, biking, and surf lessons.

Meanwhile, Dobrina Zhekova recalled her experience at the Silvestre Nosara Hotel & Residences . Each night costs $960, and the minimum stay consists of three nights. Zhekova felt the warmth and hospitality provided by the owners, who have created a place perfectly designed to offer comfort and privacy to families.

The writer loved the spacious apartments, with two bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms, as well as lush private gardens with a sauna and whirlpool tub.

“Guests can have breakfast on the two-level rooftop terrace, which is also home to the hotel’s infinity pool and cabanas, surrounded by a canopy of trees that provide shade from the ground,” she noted.

The journalist also underscored the hotel’s proximity to the beach and its “jungle trails,” leading to Playa Guiones, promising a wonderful day relaxing in the sun and catching waves.

Picture this: It's about 20 minutes after takeoff, and you hear your captain make an announcement. "Ladies and gentlemen, we've reached our cruising altitude of 35,000 feet," they say. Or, maybe they say 36,000 feet, or 40,000 feet, or 33,000 feet. Cruising altitude isn't actually a fixed number — there are many factors that go into computing this for every flight.

That said, planes generally fly at higher altitudes — usually between 30,000 to 42,000 feet — because the air gets thinner the higher you go. When the air is thinner, planes can fly faster and more efficiently, using less fuel to maintain the speed required to develop lift.

However, the air must not be too thin. "Most commercial airliners have what we call a 'service ceiling' of up to 45,000 feet," says former pilot Dan Bubb, now a professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. "The service ceiling is the point where the airplane can no longer develop lift, and gravity begins pulling it down to the ground."

Additionally, flying at higher altitudes allows planes to avoid most weather issues during the cruise phase of flight. Plus, there tends to be less turbulence at higher altitudes, according to NASA .

(An aside — flying at these high altitudes is why airplane cabins are pressurized. Even though the planes thrive in thinner air, the human body does not, so cabins are pressurized to a more comfortable level for the sake of their occupants.)

As for determining the specific cruising altitude for each commercial flight, aircraft dispatchers select the optimal flight path preflight. To do so, they consider factors like the specific aircraft and its weight, the wind and weather conditions, air traffic, and even the direction of the fight.

"Generally speaking, aircraft flying south, southwest, west, and northwest must be at an even altitude, like 36,000 feet. Aircraft flying north, northeast, east, and southeast must fly at an odd altitude, like 37,000 feet," says Bubb. "This enables air traffic controllers to safely space aircraft flying at different altitudes." Aircraft are allowed to pass within 1,000 vertical feet of one another, which is one of the reasons why planes stick to 1,000-foot increments for cruising altitude.

Then, once in-flight, the cruising altitude can change as conditions shift. For instance, if the pilots in one aircraft report turbulence at a specific altitude, those flying behind that plane may adjust their altitude to "find clear air," as you might hear over the loudspeaker.

The bottom line: As it goes with all things air travel, flying at a specific cruising altitude has everything to do with efficiency and safety .
