Ever wonder what the most exclusive vacation home in the ski mecca of Vail , Col., will set you back in the middle of the winter high season? Turns out it’s a cool $139,000.
Together, the properties come in at 15,098 square feet on a prime vantage overlooking Vail Village’s Gore Creek Drive. A portion of those plots, which were originally developed by the families of publishing giants Webster and McGraw-Hill, can be rented for a lower rate if less space is needed ($22,000 per night). But its not just the space you’re paying for; it’s the services.
With nine bedrooms and 15 bathrooms, Opus recently underwent a $5 million renovation that included furniture upgrades, new decor, and art throughout the home. A state-of-the-art fitness studio and a fully stocked ski and game room were also added. The indoor pools (Opus has two) received a refresh, too. Ethos, meanwhile, sleeps 12.
The rental comes with a butler and all the ski essentials and equipment needed for the snowy season. First tracks at Vail and nearby Beaver Creek can be arranged for guests, as can excursions into the area’s famed back bowls and Alpine meadows.
Aprés ski includes a dinner helmed by Michelin-starred chef Charlie Palmer or Top Chef alums Bryan Voltaggio or Elizabeth Falkner. Champagne sabering, caviar tastings, and wine-paired dinners, which might include bottles from Silver Oak, Canard, and Gargiulo, are led by Apex’s very own sommelier.
If all the fun has left you wilted, massages are available in-house, as well as yoga classes (with epic views, natch) and meditative, therapeutic sound baths led by trained therapists.
It’s a (snow) ball.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce jetted off to the Bahamas for a romantic getaway where they stayed at the luxurious Rosalita House on Harbour Island.
The lavish oceanside mansion — where Kylie Jenner once stayed in 2020 — reportedly costs a staggering $15,000 a night to rent out and comes with no shortage of amenities.
The private villa that sleeps 12 people features six bedrooms, a pool, multiple terraces, stunning gardens, a gym and more.
“Rosalita is a stunning, palatial, beachfront villa in Harbour Island, a paradisal strip of beach northeast of Eleuthera, where cars are forbidden and the sands are pink,” the website states.
Nestled on a hillside shielded by a 25-foot dune, the estate offered the “Cruel Summer” singer and the NFL star “complete privacy.”
The accommodations include a personal chef and sous chef, a house manager, three butlers, three housekeepers, three gardeners/beach maintenance workers and a security guard in the evenings.
The pop star and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end had everything they needed for their tropical stay.
The home’s kitchen is fully equipped with chef-grade appliances that compliment its coastal-contemporary features including white cabinetry, exposed beam ceilings and iridescent-tiled walls. The pantry is fully stocked with “staples and spices” and the chefs prepare lunch and dinner using the onsite vegetable garden.
Food can also be prepared in the pizza oven, charcoal grill, or gas grill, depending on the day’s cuisine and guests have the option to dine indoors or outside.
“A light buffet breakfast to be enjoyed at your leisure, which can consist of overnight oats, toast, fruit, hard boiled eggs and a selection of jams placed on the kitchen island from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m., prepared by our staff,” the website states, adding that lunch is typically served “family-style” by the pool.
Meanwhile, pre-dinner cocktails are served in the evenings and guests have the option for a formal plated meal.
The grand living space is fitted with beach decor matching multiple plush seating areas overlooking a spanning terrace overlooking the ocean.
The private fitness center has a Peloton, a weight-training station, yoga mats and floor-to-ceiling mirrors. According to the website, the house manager can arrange on-site personal training and private yoga and pilates classes.
The main house has five bedrooms, four of which have king-sized beds, while the Palm Cottage guest house has an additional suite with a king bed. Each bedroom have ensuite bathrooms.

“The décor of the rooms is simply beautiful, with sumptuous bedding and furnishings,” the website states. “Both the master and guesthouse suites have private terraces with stunning views, while the other rooms have private entrances from the veranda or garden.”

The primary bedroom has a special canopy bed as well as two separate bathrooms each with their own dressing area, as well as a shared outdoor shower.
The additional rooms are stylishly decorated, one of which is adorned with Slim Aarons photography while another boasts decor inspired by the wild chickens found on the island.
The grounds of the property are impeccably maintained with flourishing gardens that provide both shade and seclusion.
Lush greenery surrounds the entrance of the home, while beautiful flowers encircle the lounge areas and cabanas along the pool. The backyard veranda also has a pool bar, backgammon table, checkerboard, and shuffleboard table.
A private stairway leads to the secluded beach where guests can enjoy a large selection of watersports including paddleboarding, kayaking, beach biking, snorkeling, volleyball and more.
Swift and Kelce, who started dating last summer , were spotted showing lots of PDA while swimming in the clear blue waves along the shoreline.

Joe rogan slams 'the view,' calls it a 'rabies-infested hen house', joe rogan slams 'the view' ... calls it 'rabies-infested hen house'.
Joe Rogan crapped on "The View" after his latest guest came on and recounted what he felt was a bad experience on the show -- and he had some choice words for the ladies there.
The comedian/podcaster hosted Coleman Hughes on 'JRE' Wednesday, and they were recapping his appearance on "The View" from last week ... in which Coleman got into a testy exchange with Sunny Hostin over the topic of race and color blindness.
CH -- who has a book that argues that society needs to focus less on race and more so on class and socioeconomic status -- says he believes Sunny unfairly attacked him.
If you didn't catch it ... Sunny accused Coleman of being a pawn for the people on the right, and asked him what he would say to people who might call him a "charlatan" for peddling these viewpoints, which she seemed to be suggesting were inherently anti-Black.
Welp, Joe himself had some thoughts on this -- telling Coleman it's no surprise to him that he was feeling a sense of being ambushed on "The View" ... because in JR's opinion ... it's nothing but a "rabies-infested hen house," and Sunny pouncing is par for the course.
Coleman doesn't appear to give Joe too much pushback on his characterization here -- but he does note that he believed the live studio audience had mostly agreed with his POV.
FWIW ... Coleman held his own against Sunny and defended himself against the implication he was being co-opted by the right to push an agenda --insisting he was independent.
Old news is old news be first.
Vail is bold in its marketing, declaring that the Colorado ski town is "like no place on Earth."
Bold, sure, but actually justified. While neighboring Aspen and Steamboat Springs, along with resorts in California, Utah and throughout Europe's Alps undoubtedly also draw powder hounds in droves, there is no ski spot quite like Vail.
It's a strange mix of Western frontier and Bavarian ski town, all with a posh undertone (think: heated sidewalks) that shines through but doesn't blind you as it does in Aspen and some other ski destinations.
It's also a largely walkable town with tons of close-to-the-slopes lodging, ranging from high-end hotels to a few spots that still resemble college dorm life (though not always a dorm budget).
Then, of course, there's the skiing. Vail's Back Bowls are called "legendary" for good reason.
Yes, Vail likes to hype itself up — but it is indeed a unique ski experience unlike anything else out there. So whether you are hoping to squeeze in one more ski trip before the end of the spring ski season or already looking ahead to next year, here's everything you need to know to head into your first trip to Vail as prepared as an expert.

The easiest way to reach Vail is to fly to Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE), a small airport about a 35- to 40-minute drive west of Vail. The beauty of this airport is that it boasts proximity to an interstate highway that's easy to traverse and which avoids the high-elevation Vail Pass and Eisenhower Tunnel, which both commonly close during snowstorms.
Know, though, that the Eagle airport can also close during heavy snowfall or high winds.
During the 2020-2021 winter season, nearly 10% of the airport's flights were canceled. This was twice as many cancellations as at nearby Denver International Airport (DEN), which saw 5% of its flights canceled during the same period of time, according to government data.
Denver tends to be cheaper to fly into, too, thanks to a larger selection of flights and car rentals available. The major drawback to flying into Denver is the drive to Vail. While it should normally take you about two hours to drive west to Vail, if you are traveling on a weekend during peak season, prepare for clogged roads. Add in some winter weather, and the journey can easily exceed those two hours.
The price difference between the two airports also may shrink considerably once you factor in needing to rent an SUV or a four-wheel drive vehicle in winter. Expect an even smaller difference if you are able to redeem airline miles to fly directly to Eagle.
Regardless of which airport you choose, you can skip a car rental if you book the Epic Mountain Express shuttle from either airport. Prices start around $149 per person from Denver and $59 from Eagle. If you have an Epic Pass , remember to enter your pass number to receive a 20% discount.
Additionally, there's the Vail Black Car company. While not inexpensive, the company is usually willing and able to do pickups from the airport and other locations, even when the snow is really falling and others have hunkered down.

The village of Vail is a narrow strip of land that's sandwiched between the ski resort and Interstate Highway 70.
The Bavarian-inspired architecture looks like it belongs in a fairy tale, almost as if Disney pulled elements from Austrian, German, Italian and Swiss villages to create the perfect little ski town in Colorado. Much has changed since the ski resort opened in the 1960s, yet in many ways, the town feels perfectly stuck in time, with many of its original structures still standing.
There isn't one ideal place to stay here, but the two main centers of activity are Vail Village and Lionshead. Both have their own gondolas that access the majority of the mountain. To the east is Golden Peak, and to the west is Cascade Village.
Although the entire Vail region is spread out enough that nowhere is easily walkable to everything, the town has a free bus route — on dedicated roads — that connects all the areas. Lyft and Uber operate in Vail, too, though the limited availability makes them less than ideal for short trips.
Some of the in-town hotels include house car service in their rates, so you can be whisked away to a restaurant for dinner or a multitude of shops for a day of retail therapy without incurring an extra charge. Hotels located farther out may offer shuttle services to the slopes.
Vail is full of apres-ski spots, but for dinner, reservations are usually required. During peak season, you'll want to map out your plans weeks in advance. Also consider bringing the most rewarding credit card you have for dining , as not every meal in Vail is a cheap one.
One of the newer, trendier additions to town is Slope Room . This upscale steakhouse inside Gravity Haus Vail (a boutique hotel in Vail Village) is the place to see and be seen while visiting Colorado. The 21-day, dry-aged bison ribeye for $76 was one of our favorites. Another highlight was the corn old fashioned ($16), which comes with a piece of charred corn still on the cob floating above the booze.
Just follow the crowds at the base of the main gondola to Vail's longstanding traditional spot for apres-ski. This packed bar and restaurant often has live music, making it a great place to catch up with friends (or meet some new ones) after a long day on the slopes. Order the nachos ($20) and a round of one of the local brews on tap, then kick back and relax.
Sweet Basil has been elevating the fine dining scene in Vail from its perch 8,150 feet above sea level since opening in 1977. With an enviable location by the slopes and an upscale setting, the restaurant is the ideal place to unwind in style after an abridged day of skiing. Be sure to order the grilled octopus ($22), the butter-poached lobster ($60) or the Colorado lamb tagine ($53).
The owners of Almresi perfectly describe this eatery as the spot where the Alps meet the Rockies. Employing a staff as international as the cuisine itself (and dressed by the same outfitter used for Munich's famous Oktoberfest celebration), Almresi is as legit of a European getaway as you'll find in Colorado. Menu staples include raclette, bratwurst and fondue. Come hungry, as the restaurant's meals are all three-course offerings costing $49 per person.
If you're craving an affordable lunch special to enjoy between runs, then Blue Moose is the place to go. After about 30 years in operation, Blue Moose is still as unassuming as it is popular. Whether you want to dine in or grab a pizza to take back to your lodging, the casual spot is a solid choice. Its one-topping slice and soda meal for $5 is as close to budget-friendly as you'll get in the area.

There are plenty of T-shirt and standard ski shops in town, but odds are you're looking for more than ordinary finds when you visit Vail. Unsurprisingly, the town offers several top shops worth perusing.
Axel's should be one of your first stops in town. While the prices are not cheap, the clothing and accessories here are unique and, honestly, more stylish than I am. Instead of getting a silly T-shirt or another ski jacket, why not bring your wardrobe up to the next level?
With locations in Vail, Aspen, Beaver Creek and Park City, Utah, Gorsuch has been a mainstay in high-end ski gear and winter clothing for decades. You'll find a selection of jewelry, candles, sunglasses and more, should you want a smaller keepsake that won't take up as much space in your carry-on bag or checked luggage .
Enjoying that Western vibe and want to take some of it home with you? Then this is the store to prioritize. Kemo Sabe offers high-end Western wear (think: cowboy boots, leather belts, buckles and more) for both men and women. It's well worth a visit, even if you don't walk away with a custom cowboy hat.
If you are looking for some comfortable 1970s-inspired attire to wear around town or later at home, then the Aviator Nation shop in Vail Village is worth checking out. You can't miss this California brand's brightly colored rainbows on its handmade hoodies, sweatpants and cropped tees displayed at its Vail outpost's storefront. Although most items here are also available to buy online, there are some Vail-branded options that you won't find elsewhere, so be sure to visit in person.
The hythe, a luxury collection resort.
Fresh off a $40 million renovation, the Hythe is one of the best all-around choices for Vail lodging if you have a bunch of Marriott points to spare. Situated in Lionshead Village and part of Marriott's family of Luxury Collection Resorts, this hotel is walkable to the gondola and lift at the base of Lionshead, though it is not a true ski-in/ski-out resort.
Still, The Hythe's superb location and plethora of top-notch facilities and amenities makes it an excellent option to hang your hat after a busy day of skiing. On-site features include a ski rental shop, two hot tubs, a spa and an awesome restaurant (Margie's Haas).
While the rooms are a little on the small side, especially if you are traveling with more than one person, we love the alpine-chic vibe that ties in the area's history and setting. If you can stomach the winter room rates, which are often $800 to $1,000 per night (or 70,000 to 100,000 Marriott points per night), this property is well worth a visit.
For World of Hyatt fans, the Grand Hyatt Vail can offer a fantastic value on points during ski season.
Although it's set slightly off the main drag, the complimentary shuttle service makes frequent on-demand trips to Lionshead and the Vail Transportation Center. Guests can also take advantage of the on-site rental shop and hop on the Cascade Village lift just a few steps from the building to get right on the slopes.
After a full day of skiing, you can unwind at the property in a variety of ways. Enjoy a relaxing soak in one of multiple hot tubs, pamper yourself with a treatment at the spa or partake in evening entertainment like a Champagne sabering or magic show. Should you want a break from the winter-themed activities, you can reserve one of the property's Topgolf suites or even test your axe-throwing skills at the on-site facility.
As a Category 6 property, free nights typically cost 29,000 points during peak ski season, but with paid rates frequently eclipsing $1,000 per night, you can get outstanding value redeeming points.
If you don't mind being a little removed from the action, consider the Highline Vail, which is really a DoubleTree by a fancier name. Since the property is affiliated with Hilton, you can earn and use Hilton Honors points and perks while being just 2 miles from the mountain, which you can reach via the hotel's shuttle.
Reviews here are admittedly a bit mixed. However, if you manage your expectations and don't count on the same experience you'll get at Vail's assortment of higher-end properties, then chances are you'll enjoy staying at the Highline Vail.
To stay at this DoubleTree outpost during ski season, expect to spend about 80,000 Hilton points per night for a standard room.
In addition to various brand-name properties, Vail Resorts operates two hotels in town. Naturally, both are in amazing locations just steps from the slopes.
The Arrabelle at Vail Square boasts multi-bedroom accommodations, a year-round pool, a ski concierge and a spa, among other amenities. And at The Lodge at Vail, guests will find an alpine-inspired setting complete with fire pits, an outdoor hot tub and more.
Stays at these properties come at a steep cost, but Vail is known for its 96-hour sales , so you may be able to lock in a reasonable rate if you book early. Season pass holders are also typically able to save 20% on Vail-owned resorts.
If the above options are not appealing to you, there are plenty of other luxe options in town. Here are four of our favorites:
Related: Book this, not that ski hotel edition
To ski at Vail, you will probably want to get an Epic Pass of some sort.
Single-day lift tickets can cost $239 per day – but you don't have to pay that much with advance planning. The cheapest Epic Day tickets cost less than $100 per day if purchased with enough advance notice. These tickets eventually go off sale for the season, so know that you won't find these reduced rates when planning a last-minute trip.
Kids 4 and younger ski for free at Vail , while those in kindergarten to fifth grade can get four days of free skiing if they register (in person in Colorado) during select dates. Keep in mind, though, that the latter typically occurs in fall.
Vail is a sprawling mountain. There are three base areas just on the front side: Golden Peak, Vail Village and the area around Lionshead. An additional lift is also available at Cascade Village by the Grand Hyatt Vail.
Beyond these areas, you can ski down the Back Bowls (the back side of the mountain range) and then over to the adjacent Blue Sky Basin ski area.
There are many chairlifts and gondolas to keep track of, but don't be intimidated. After a few runs, you will get the hang of it all. Just make sure you follow the signs to the proper base area at the end of the day or else you will have a long bus ride back to your lodging.

In addition to deciding where to start and end your day on the mountain, you'll need to strategize where you sign up for ski school . For example, depending on the day and type of lesson, you can meet up with your instructor in Lionshead, Vail Village or Golden Peak.
Your other decision will be what type of lesson you're after. There are half- and full-day lessons, along with private or group lessons. While private lessons are pricier, often costing more than $1,000 per day, they can end up being the more affordable option if you sign up with multiple people, though you'll want to make sure everyone is at roughly the same ski ability.
No matter which ski school lesson you choose, you'll want to book in advance for cheaper rates and to ensure availability. You'll also get a 20% discount on group lessons if you have an Epic Pass.
While Vail is certainly a great spot to visit during a variety of seasons, it is a ski town first and foremost. Mother Nature is largely in control of the exact dates the ski season starts and ends, but expect opening to be sometime in November and closing to occur sometime in April. This year, the ski season was extended a bit and is currently scheduled to conclude on May 1.
If you want to increase your odds of enjoying good snow on a variety of open terrain, plan your visit to occur between late December and mid-March.
Besides its abundance of outdoor recreational activities, Vail has an growing slate of festivals focusing on everything from food to art to music that take place outside of winter. It's also easier to score dinner reservations and cheaper accommodations in the shoulder seasons.
So, if winter sports are not your thing, consider an offseason visit.
Vail isn't the cheapest place to ski, nor is it the easiest resort to get to. But it's a mountain that lives up to its reputation as a world-class ski destination.
Featuring a massive amount of terrain, powder-filled back bowls, fun tree trails and dining that ranges from a $5 pizza lunch to upscale meals, this small town is a haven for winter sports enthusiasts. Its part Colorado, part European Alps style creates a one-of-a-kind setting that is 100% all its own.
It's no wonder why many visitors — us included — find themselves returning to Vail year after year.
Aid officials cautiously welcomed news that Israel would open more routes for aid into Gaza, saying on Friday that they would wait to see how and when the new measures would go into effect, as the United States made it clear that its support for Israel would depend on its next steps.
Israel has been under rising pressure from U.S. officials and humanitarian agencies to increase the number of crossings into Gaza for aid, as the United Nations warns that a famine is looming .
On Thursday President Biden threatened to condition future support for Israel on how it addresses his concerns about civilian casualties and the humanitarian situation, and hours later the Israeli government announced additional aid routes, including through the port of Ashdod and the Erez crossing, a checkpoint between Israel and northern Gaza.
But the Israeli statement offered few details and it was not immediately clear when those new routes would open — or how much aid could pass through them. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken said Friday that the United States would be “looking to see” if Israel prioritizes allowing more aid into the enclave and “getting it to the people who need it.”
One measure of Israel’s commitment to that goal, he said, will be “the number of trucks that are actually getting in on a sustained basis.”
“The real test is results,” he told a news conference in Brussels on Friday.
Stéphane Dujarric, a spokesman for U.N. Secretary General António Guterres, said the news about more aid routes was positive.
“But, of course, we will have to see how this is implemented,” he added.
The European Commission urged that the measures be implemented quickly and “fully,” while World Food Program said on Friday that it would try to clarify with the Israeli authorities “their security and logistics arrangements so we can move swiftly to exploit any new opportunity to feed more Gazans as famine takes hold.”
The agency noted that it had been urging for Israel to open more crossings for months.
Since the start of the war, Israel has limited aid entering Gaza to two tightly controlled border crossings: Kerem Shalom and Rafah, both in the south of the enclave.
Most of Gaza’s international aid passes through warehouses in Egypt near El Arish, not far from the city of Rafah, which straddles the border with Gaza. Some aid has also been delivered through a different route from Jordan.
From El Arish, the trucks carrying aid have typically undergone security checks on the Egyptian side of the border in Rafah.
Aid agencies have faced challenges at every step of the delivery process, from lengthy Israel inspections at the border crossings to violence while distributing to Palestinians within Gaza.
Israeli checks on goods entering Gaza aim to weed out items that could potentially be used by Hamas. Aid officials have said the inspection process causes significant delays, while Israel has argued that disorganization by humanitarian groups and diversions of shipments by Hamas were to blame for any bottlenecks.
On Friday, Mr. Blinken said that another indicator the United States would be looking to see whether “the bottlenecks and other delays at crossings are being resolved.”
The most dire shortages are in northern Gaza, where hungry people have swarmed trucks carrying food and where aid groups say they have struggled to deliver supplies because of Israeli restrictions and widespread lawlessness.
Israel has been promoting its efforts to get aid into Gaza by land, air and sea. But aid groups have been pressing for Israel to open more road crossings, including at Erez on the northern border. These aid organizations argue that only a flood of food can help stem the hunger crisis and that truck convoys are by far the most efficient way to bring aid in.

The United Nations’ top human rights body adopted a resolution that calls for a halt to arms supplies to Israel and puts its key allies under international scrutiny for possible violations of international humanitarian law.
The resolution, which went to a vote on Friday by the body, the U.N. Human Rights Council in Geneva, calls on all states to cease supplying arms and munitions to Israel “in order to prevent further violations of international humanitarian law and violations and abuses of human rights.”
It also calls on the United Nations’ independent commission of inquiry, which is investigating accusations of war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Palestinian territories and Israel, to report on the direct and indirect supply of arms to Israel and to analyze the legal consequences of those supplies.
The draft resolution borrowed language on arms supplies from a resolution that condemned brutal repression of pro-democracy opposition by Myanmar’s ruling military. The council adopted the Myanmar resolution without a vote on Thursday, but the Israel measure looks likely to be challenged by the United States and Germany, Israel’s two biggest suppliers of military hardware.
The Biden administration has sharpened its criticism of Israel’s conduct of hostilities in Gaza, particularly since the airstrikes that killed seven World Central Kitchen aid workers in Gaza this week. Despite mounting opposition to its war policy at home, however, the administration has not shifted its position on supplying arms to Israel and upholding its right to defend itself.
President Biden, during a call with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday, threatened to condition future support on how Israel addresses his concerns about treatment of civilians but stopped short of doing so, according to White House officials.
In recent days, the administration authorized delivery of an arms package to Israel that included thousands of bombs and it is pressing Congress to allow the sale of $18 billion worth of F-15 fighter jets.
Defending U.S. arms supplies to Israel, a spokesman for the White House National Security Council, John Kirby, insisted this week that the administration had “not found any incidents where Israelis have violated international humanitarian law.”
That view is contested by some legal and human rights authorities. A senior British politician said last week that the government’s lawyers had concluded that Israel had violated international humanitarian law in Gaza, and a group of 600 British lawyers and retired judges wrote to the government on Wednesday, saying the country’s arms sales to Israel violated international law.
The U.N. human rights chief, Volker Türk, told the Human Rights Council in February that his office had recorded many incidents that may amount to war crimes. States’ responsibility to uphold the laws of “came alive,” he said, when there was a risk that arms supplied to a party to a conflict may be used in violation of the law.

The Israeli police said they arrested eight people at the Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem, where thousands of Muslim worshippers had come for dawn prayers on the last Friday of Ramadan amid heavy security.
The police said that the eight people had been arrested for participating in “incendiary chants and endorsement of terrorism.” It did not provide further details.
The mosque is one of the holiest sites for Muslims and is part of a compound that is sacred to Jews, who call it the Temple Mount. It has long been a chronic flashpoint in tensions between Israel and the Palestinians.
Concerns have run high that it could be the site of violence during Ramadan, the holiest month for Muslims and one that has taken on added significance during the war in Gaza.
Muslim access to the mosque has been a point of contention, and in recent years Israel has exerted tighter control over the compound. This year, Israel tightened restrictions on movement for Palestinians from the West Bank during Ramadan.
After the dawn prayer on Friday — the holiest day of the week for Muslims — video footage from the Reuters news agency showed what it said was tear gas hanging in the air in the early morning light.
NEWS ANALYSIS
Nearly six months since it began, Israel’s war in Gaza is dragging on. So, too, is the tenure of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu . In Israel, some are now asking: Are the two are linked?
To his allies, Mr. Netanyahu’s refusal to agree to a cease-fire in Gaza is a necessary one, made in the national interest and backed by many Israelis. The thinking goes that Israel must cripple Hamas to weaken its hand at cease-fire negotiations .
To his critics, the prime minister is dragging out the war to prevent the collapse of his fragile right-wing coalition and extend his time in office. By this analysis, he has made a domestic calculus that ignores both the growing global anger about the bloodshed — including from Israel’s most powerful ally, President Biden, which erupted into full view on Thursday — and the rising anger from the families of Israeli hostages who seek their relatives’ immediate release.
Israel’s longest-serving prime minister, Mr. Netanyahu has long been portrayed as a vacillator who prefers to delay decisions for as long as possible so that he can keep all of his options open.
His strategy is attracting renewed scrutiny because of the scale of what is at stake: Israel’s war in Gaza, which began in response to a Hamas-led raid on Israel on Oct. 7, has since killed more than 32,000 people, according to Gazan health authorities. It has led experts to warn of a looming famine and has stigmatized Israel on the global stage, amid accusations, strongly denied by Israel, that it has pursued a genocide against Gazans .
The debate over Mr. Netanyahu’s intentions has been imbued with still more urgency by an Israeli strike this week that killed seven aid workers in Gaza , escalating international alarm over Israeli military tactics . The Israeli military took responsibility for the strike and said it was a case of misidentification.

The C.I.A. director, William J. Burns, is expected to travel to Cairo on Saturday for further talks on releasing Israeli hostages being held in Gaza, according to two people briefed on the plans.
American officials believe negotiating a pause in fighting between Israel and Hamas and the exchange of Israeli hostages held in Gaza for Palestinian prisoners held in Israel is the only way to put a temporary cease-fire into effect and increase the flow of humanitarian aid into the enclave.
Mr. Burns, a key figure in the continuing negotiations, is expected to be joined by David Barnea, the head of Mossad, Israel’s spy agency, and negotiators from Egypt and Qatar. Neither the Americans nor the Israelis speak directly to Hamas. Instead, their proposals are relayed through Egyptian and Qatari officials, who speak to members of Hamas.
Mr. Burns’s travel plans were earlier reported by The Wall Street Journal on Thursday.
The cease-fire talks have been stuck for weeks. This round will be taking place after President Biden spoke to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel by phone on Thursday, repeating his call for a negotiated deal that would result in an “immediate cease-fire” and the release of hostages taken by Hamas.
Negotiators have at times seen the possibility of breakthroughs, only to have setbacks. A push for a deal before the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan last month also was unsuccessful .
The current sticking point appears to be the return of Palestinians to northern Gaza, a main Hamas demand that Israel has been reluctant to give in to, according to people briefed on the talks.
Mr. Burns, a seasoned diplomat and negotiator before he became the C.I.A. leader, has put various proposals on the table, prodding parties to endorse plans to take to Hamas. It is not clear if Mr. Burns will be taking a new deal to the meetings.
Negotiations have been slow in part because it can take two days or more to relay proposals from negotiating sessions to Yahya Sinwar, the Hamas leader in Gaza and the presumed mastermind of the Oct. 7 attack on Israel. Mr. Sinwar has been approving all Hamas counterproposals on hostage negotiations. He is believed to be hiding in the tunnels under Gaza, protected from Israeli raids by a group of hostages he is using as human shields.

Israel has agreed to open another crossing and increase the flow of aid getting into Gaza, a move seemingly aimed at tempering the U.S. president’s growing frustration over the dire humanitarian crisis in the enclave.
The Israeli government confirmed the new measures in an overnight statement, after the Biden administration announced them late Thursday after a tense phone call between President Biden and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. During the call, Mr. Biden threatened to condition future support for Israel on how it addresses his concerns about civilian casualties and the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
In a statement, a spokeswoman for the National Security Council said that Israel had agreed to open the Erez crossing to allow aid into northern Gaza, to use the port of Ashdod to direct aid into the enclave and to significantly increase deliveries from Jordan — “at the president’s request.”
“These steps,” the spokeswoman, Adrienne Watson, said, “must now be fully and rapidly implemented.”
The Israeli government did not say when it would open Erez crossing, a checkpoint between Israel and northern Gaza that Hamas attacked on Oct. 7 and that Israel had refused to re-open since. It said only that Israel would allow the “temporary delivery” of aid through the Erez crossing and the port of Ashdod, which sits about 16 miles north of Gaza on Israel’s Mediterranean coast.
Israel has come under rising pressure from U.S. officials and humanitarian agencies to open more border crossings for aid amid warnings from the United Nations that famine looms after nearly six months of war.
Mr. Biden has grown increasingly critical of Israel’s approach to the war against Hamas in Gaza, saying that more must be done to protect civilians. The killing of seven aid workers this week by Israeli forces appeared to bring that to a head, with Mr. Biden saying he was “outraged” and that Israel has “not done enough to protect civilians.”
That frustration carried over into his call with Mr. Netanyahu on Thursday, when Mr. Biden tried for the first time to leverage American aid to influence the conduct of the war against Hamas — prompting Israel to commit to letting more food and supplies into Gaza.
“As the president said today on the call, U.S. policy with respect to Gaza will be determined by our assessment of Israel’s immediate action on these and other steps, including steps to protect innocent civilians and the safety of aid workers,” Ms. Watson said in the statement.
The most dire shortages are in northern Gaza, where desperation has prompted people to swarm trucks carrying assistance and where aid groups say they have struggled to deliver supplies because of Israeli restrictions and widespread lawlessness.
Nearly all of the aid allowed into Gaza since the war began has entered through two main crossing points: Kerem Shalom and Rafah, which are both in the southern part of the enclave. But getting truck convoys from the southern border crossings to the north is difficult and dangerous, and the route is sometimes blocked by roads damaged by Israeli bombardment, Israeli checkpoints or battles between Hamas fighters and Israeli troops.
Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin III, in a call with his Israeli counterpart on Wednesday, also “raised the need for the rapid increase of aid coming through all crossings in the coming days,” according to the Pentagon.
Late last month, the International Court of Justice in The Hague ordered Israel to ensure the “provision of unhindered aid” into Gaza, using some of its strongest language yet. Israel has rejected accusations that it is responsible for delays in the delivery of aid.

Israel’s military said on Thursday that it was canceling leave for combat units, calling up more reservists and blocking GPS signals.
The Israeli military did not explicitly cite the reason behind the moves. Israeli newspapers said they came amid fears of an increased threat from Iran , a prospect Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu alluded to in remarks to his Security Cabinet on Thursday night.
“For years, Iran has been acting against us both directly and via its proxies; therefore, Israel is acting against Iran and its proxies, defensively and offensively,” he said, without directly referring to the military’s moves. “We will know how to defend ourselves, and we will act according to the simple principle of whoever harms us or plans to harm us, we will harm them.”
President Ebrahim Raisi of Iran has vowed to punish Israel for killing top Iranian commanders this week in an airstrike in Syria. The attack was one of the deadliest in a decades-long shadow war between the two enemies, and American officials have voiced concerns that it could prompt retaliatory strikes against Israel or its ally, the United States.
The Israeli military said on Wednesday night that it had decided to draft reserve soldiers for its aerial defense unit. It did not provide further details.
An announcement about pausing leave for all combat units came in another brief statement, issued on Thursday morning. The military said the decision — which it described as temporary — was taken given “the latest situational assessment,” adding that Israel is “at war and the deployment of forces is under continuous assessment.”
A military spokesman, Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, said later on Thursday that Israel also had been disrupting GPS signals over the past day to intercept any threats. He did not attribute those threats to Iran or any group or country in particular.
“During the war, we dealt with a large number of threats launched toward Israel — missiles, UAVs and cruise missiles,” he told a news briefing, referring to unmanned aerial vehicles, like drones, and adding that “most of them were manufactured in Iran.”
The moves come as Israel’s military is under strain from months of fighting against Hamas in Gaza. Reservists have been called to serve longer or additional tours of duty, and a fierce national debate over whether ultra-Orthodox Jews should be required to join the army has been reignited.
Mr. Netanyahu has vowed to press on in Gaza with a ground invasion of the southern city of Rafah, where more than a million Palestinians have sought refuge. His promise to invade Rafah comes despite mounting calls for a cease-fire and international criticism over Israel’s conduct in the war.
U.S. officials have expressed alarm over the scale of civilian deaths in Gaza and warned that Israel’s plans to invade Rafah could lead to catastrophe. Israel’s deadly strikes on a convoy of aid workers this week amplified those concerns, prompting sharp critiques from President Biden and Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin III.

Secretary of the treasury janet l. yellen to travel to the people’s republic of china.
WASHINGTON – From April 3-9, Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen will travel to the People’s Republic of China (PRC) for bilateral meetings and other engagements.
Secretary Yellen’s visit to China will build on the intensive diplomacy she has engaged in to responsibly manage the bilateral economic relationship and advance American interests. Following initial meetings with the PRC’s new economic team last July in Beijing, Secretary Yellen met with her counterpart Vice Premier He Lifeng in San Francisco, California, in advance of President Biden’s meeting with President Xi. At Secretary Yellen and Vice Premier’s direction, both sides jointly launched Economic and Financial Working Groups , which report to the Secretary and Vice Premier, and which have met three times.
In an April 2023 speech , Secretary Yellen laid out three principles guiding America’s economic relationship with the PRC. These principals continue to guide our engagement today. The United States proceeds with confidence in our economic strength thanks to our historically strong recovery and the investments the Biden Administration is making in America’s productive capacity. In the context of this relationship, America first seeks to secure our national security interests along with those of our allies and to protect human rights. Second, we seek a healthy economic relationship with China that provides a level playing field for American workers and firms. Finally, we also seek to cooperate where we can on key bilateral and global priorities.
During her engagements in China, Secretary Yellen will advocate for American workers and businesses to ensure they are treated fairly, including by pressing Chinese counterparts on unfair trade practices and underscoring the global economic consequences of Chinese industrial overcapacity. Secretary Yellen will also work to expand bilateral cooperation on countering illicit finance, which can drive important progress on shared efforts against criminal activity such as drug trafficking and fraud. In China, the Secretary will also engage her counterparts on critical work that benefits both the United States and China, as well as the world, including work to bolster financial stability, address climate change, and resolve debt distress among developing nations.
On Wednesday, April 3, Secretary Yellen will depart Washington, DC for Guangzhou, the People’s Republic of China. On Thursday, April 4, she will arrive in Guangzhou.
On Friday, April 5, in the morning, Secretary Yellen will hold a roundtable discussion with economic experts to discuss challenges and opportunities in the PRC’s economy. Secretary Yellen will then meet with Guangdong Governor Wang Weizhong. In the afternoon, Secretary Yellen will participate in an event with leading representatives of the American business community in China, hosted by AmCham China, and deliver remarks on the bilateral economic relationship. In the late afternoon, Secretary Yellen will begin extended bilateral meetings with Vice Premier He Lifeng.
On Saturday, April 6, Secretary Yellen will continue and then conclude a series of bilateral meetings with Vice Premier He. In the afternoon, Secretary Yellen will depart Guangzhou for Beijing.
On Sunday, April 7, Secretary Yellen will participate in a bilateral meeting with Premier Li Qiang. Later, Secretary Yellen will meet with Beijing Mayor Yin Yong. In the afternoon, Secretary Yellen will meet with students and professors at Peking University. In the evening, the Secretary will participate in a bilateral meeting with Finance Minister Lan Fo’an. While in Beijing, Secretary Yellen will also meet with leading Chinese economists.
On Monday, April 8, Secretary Yellen will meet with former Vice Premier Liu He of the People’s Republic of China. Later, she will hold a bilateral meeting with People’s Bank of China Governor Pan Gongsheng.
In the afternoon, Secretary Yellen will hold a press conference, during which she will deliver remarks discussing her trip to China. This press conference will be livestreamed here .
On Tuesday, April 9, Secretary Yellen will depart Beijing for Washington, DC. In the evening, she will arrive in Washington, DC.
More details will follow.

Washington — Special counsel Jack Smith urged a federal judge to keep a presidential recordkeeping law out of instructions that would be provided to the jury in the classified documents case against former President Donald Trump , according to court documents filed by Smith's team late Tuesday. Prosecutors warned that including the law in the instructions risked jeopardizing the proceedings, and signaled they would appeal the judge's decision if she ruled against them.
Last month, U.S. District Court Judge Aileen Cannon , who is overseeing the case in Florida, asked Smith's and Trump's legal teams to file jury instructions based on two hypothetical scenarios: in one, the president has the authority under the Presidential Records Act (PRA) to categorize any records as personal. Under this scenario, Cannon wrote that "neither a court nor a jury" would have the ability to review the decision, a finding that could nullify much of the special counsel's case against Trump.
In the other, the jury would be able to examine a record that had been retained by a former president and make a finding that it was either "personal or presidential," under the PRA. Under this scenario, it is possible jurors could find that some official documents were mishandled.
Federal prosecutors rejected both proposals and wrote Tuesday that the PRA — a 1978 law that manages the maintenance of White House documents produced during each presidency — "should not play any role at trial at all," arguing that Trump's alleged mishandling of classified records occurred after his presidency ended.
Trump and Smith filed separate proposals for jury instructions in the case Tuesday, although a trial date has yet to be set.
Prosecutors said Tuesday that both of Cannon's hypothetical scenarios "rest on an unstated and fundamentally flawed legal premise." Any jury instructions that include the PRA risked "distort[ing] the trial," they said.
Instead, the special counsel suggested jurors should only have to determine three elements of the case that amount to whether Trump willfully retained national defense information without the authorization of the federal government.
Smith's team requested that if the judge opts to include language concerning the PRA, she affords them ample time to appeal the matter to higher courts ahead of trial.
The former president's legal team took the opposite view, writing Cannon "correctly stated the law" when she suggested the jury instruction that would have granted Trump much broader power under the PRA.
"If this case is presented to a jury—which it should not be—the jury would be forced to resolve factual issues relating to not only PRA categorizations but also documents' alleged classification status," Trump's defense team argued in their filing .
In their own proposed jury instructions , Trump's legal team suggested Cannon tell jurors that Trump was authorized to access the classified records during his presidency and that certain precedents allow for former presidents to access certain documents.
The special counsel charged Trump in a 40-count indictment that includes 32 alleged violations of a national security law that makes it illegal to mishandle national defense information. The former president is also accused of engaging in an obstruction scheme as part of an alleged effort to thwart federal investigators as they probed his retention of documents with classified markings. The FBI ultimately recovered over 300 sensitive government records from Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence that prosecutors accused him of illegally keeping.
Trump pleaded not guilty to all counts and has denied any wrongdoing.
Tuesday's late-night filing from the special counsel contended that the question of presidential versus private records under the PRA is not a question for a jury because it doesn't apply to Trump's alleged conduct. Instead, prosecutors said this was a matter of law that should be left up to the judge.
Trump's legal team has filed a number of motions to dismiss the case against him, including one on the grounds that the PRA granted Trump "unreviewable discretion" over classified records.
"President Trump was still the President of the United States when, for example, many of the documents at issue were packed (presumably by the GSA), transported, and delivered to Mar-A-Lago," they wrote in a February court filing.
Attorneys for the former president also argued that the PRA "precludes judicial review" over a president's recordkeeping, contending that the court has no jurisdiction in the matter, language that was reflected in Cannon's order asking for input on the proposed jury instructions.
Smith's team, however, pushed back in responding court filings, writing that the more than 300 documents with classified markings recovered from Trump "are indisputably presidential, not personal."
"Trump was not authorized to possess classified records at all," prosecutors said.
The federal probe into Trump's handling of classified records followed a months-long effort by federal officials to collect what they said were missing documents. Investigators ultimately executed a search warrant at his Florida residence and club, Mar-a-Lago, in August of 2022, after the former president allegedly failed to fully respond to a grand jury subpoena.
In Tuesday's filing, Smith's team again pushed back, alleging that Trump's use of the PRA — namely the claim that he had the power to declare certain government documents as personal in nature — was "invented" as a "fictional" defense for his alleged conduct only after the federal probe was underway. The special counsel said neither communications with his defense team throughout the investigation nor witness testimony backs up Trump's claims.
Prosecutors revealed that during its grand jury investigation, the special counsel's office interviewed individuals close to the former president, including his chiefs of staff and top White House lawyers.
"Not a single one had heard Trump say that he was designating records as personal or that, at the time he caused the transfer of boxes to Mar-a-Lago, he believed that his removal of records amounted to designating them as personal under the PRA," according to the special counsel. "To the contrary, every witness who was asked this question had never heard such a thing."
In response to Cannon's order, however, Trump's lawyers reiterated their contention that the former president was shielded from prosecution under the PRA.
"There is no basis for the Special Counsel's Office, this Court, or a jury to second-guess President Trump's document-specific PRA categorizations."
Cannon has yet to rule on any of Trump's motions to dismiss the indictment, and the former president's legal team urged her again on Tuesday to rule in his favor. Two of the former president's aides, Walt Nauta and Carlos de Oliveira, also face charges in the case and filed their own motions, which also remain unresolved. Nauta and de Oliveira pleaded not guilty to allegations that they worked with the former president to obstruct the federal probe.
The judge has yet to set a trial date in the case — originally scheduled for late May — and has not issued any order related to a request from Smith that she reconsider a ruling tied to protected witness names. She held a hearing on those two issues on March 1.
Trump originally argued that a trial should not go forward before the fall election, but conceded that August would be feasible, should the judge decide to proceed. The special counsel pushed for the trial to begin in July, a proposal that seems less likely to be adopted, since Cannon's docket still contains several unresolved motions.

Another week, another documentation of the Kardashian family’s every move. This time, it’s a family vacation to Vail, Colorado, one of the best ski towns in the U.S., and the evidence has popped up on Kim and Kylie’s Snapchats, and, of course, in the ubiquitous and Kardashian-loyal paparazzi shots. While Rob celebrated his recent engagement to Blac Chyna somewhere else, the rest of the family, including Tyga and Scott Disick, were seen flying in a private jet, hitting the slopes, and dining in their gear après-ski. The E! cameras were surely there, too, just as they were for the Kardashians’ ski trip to Breckenridge, when Kim threw her mom’s phone from the balcony and cried with an ugly face in her bedroom. Or like they were for their more recent ski trip when Khloé hit black ice near Bozeman, Montana, but skillfully turned the car out of harm’s way and halted to a stop on the side of the road.
But I digress. The point worth noting here is that Vail has a strong draw for both families and ski bums alike, and while this isn’t necessarily high season, the current temperatures there are relatively mild and the snow still plentiful. Vail Valley is also home to some of the most beautiful hotels and delicious restaurants in the Colorado Rockies. Below is a guide to some of the best—and maybe even Kardashian vacation–worthy—in the area.
Four Seasons Vail Located at the base of Vail Mountain, this five-star, 121-guest room resort built with stone at the base and peaked roofs includes a ski concierge with your stay. The Four Seasons Vail also features a heated outdoor pool and a spa with treatments like a river stone massage and hydrotherapy baths.
Sonnenalp Hotel The Sonnenalp design was modeled after the Bavarian-style ski lodges one might find in Europe. There are 127 rooms, many of which have fireplaces and mountain views, and 13 miles west of Vail Village, the Sonnenalp has its very own golf course open during the warmer months from early April through October. There’s also a Swiss chalet–inspired restaurant, a ranch-like setting with outdoor space for beers, and a bar for drinks and live music.
karashians vail
The 10th Open for ski-in-ski-out lunches, this dining and après establishment is located at the base of Look Ma run at Mid-Vail, halfway up the mountain. The 10th, of course, offers spectacular views out over the slopes, but also a delicious menu that includes dishes like Colorado lamb chili, Wagyu carpaccio, and truffle fries.
Root & Flower For a drink après-ski in Vail Village, Root & Flower is the perfect spot. This wine bar, which opened late last year, offers draft beer and craft cocktails, as well as seasonal small plates in a rustic modern atmosphere.
Matsuhisa Vail Owned and operated by the famous chef Nobuyuki “Nobu” Matsuhisa, this Japanese restaurant offers incredible sushi and sashimi as well as sake amid a luxurious setting and with beautiful views out over Vail. The menu features dishes like a lobster shiitake salad and tomato and rock shrimp ceviche.

Restaurants, food and drink, don’t settle for a “hole in a roll” when you can get the real deal.
When Joshua Pollack first started serving New York-style bagels at Rosenberg’s Bagels & Delicatessen in 2014, Denver was practically a bagel desert.
“I couldn’t get bagels with schmear or lox really anywhere in Denver,” Pollack said. “There were no, in my opinion, traditional East Coast bagel shops in Colorado, period. I longed for the food. It’s part of my soul and heritage. It’s my connection to my community, family and ancestors.
Moe’s Broadway Bagel, which first opened in Boulder in 1992, was the “king of the castle,” at the time, Pollack said.
But over the last decade, Pollack, a New York City native, set a precedent for East Coast transplants and customers craving that chewy New York-style bagel. He even has a special water filtration system that strips down the minerals in Denver’s water and blends back in certain minerals, including calcium and magnesium, that mimic the water levels in New York.
“East Coast transplants have been our core clientele since the beginning,” Pollack said. “Traditionally speaking as a New York transplant myself, we are the hardest to please, so if you can please a New Yorker, then you’re doing a pretty good job.”
Pollack said he’s seen “minimal evolution” in Denver’s bagel scene up until recently. “There’s been an explosion post-pandemic, and these new shops, like Rich Spirit Bagels or Odell’s Bagel, are really doing justice to the food that is often not given, in my opinion, the respect and importance it deserves.”
Now that Denver’s leveled up its bagel game, check out the best six shops in town to get a proper bite of breakfast:
Pollack has his process down to a science. On top of using water filtered to his criteria — which affects the strength of the gluten — the shop cold ferments the dough overnight. The deli team also boils the bagel before they bake it and uses barley malt syrup for flavor development. The end result is a perfect chewy, crisp crust.
“Bagel making is an art and a science because it’s different every day,” Pollack said. “Seasonally, we’re adjusting the amount of water in our recipe. How long we mix, how long we boil, how long we prove is different day to day. That’s what excites me about baking in general.”
Rosenberg’s, with locations in Five Points, the Stanley Marketplace and a retail/wholesale operation dubbed Rosenberg’s Kosher , sells an assortment of bagels for $3 a pop ($18 for half a dozen or $30 for a dozen), ranging from plain to cinnamon raisin. The deli’s Five Points and Stanley Marketplace menus boast breakfast egg sandwiches, deli sandwiches and fish sandwiches with house-smoked sturgeon, Scottish smoked salmon, cured gravlax or whitefish salad.

Rich Spirit Bagels doesn’t want to be pigeonholed when it comes to style. Denver’s newest bagel shop, which opened in Gold’s Marketplace in March , takes techniques from around the world to create the perfect glutenous base.
Bakery Four brought its cult following from Tennyson Street over with it to Wheat Ridge, selling out of 300 bagels on its first day. Owner Shawn Bergin and his wife moved from New York to Denver in 2019, but never settled on a go-to spot.
Rich Spirit Bagels uses a dark malt in the bagel dough and boiling water to give it “a beer-like maltiness that’s really familiar in New York,” Bergin said. The bagels’ crisp exterior is reminiscent of Montreal-style bagels, which are typically sweeter and denser than New York bagels, and the dough is naturally leavened. There are no egg sandwiches but the plain, salted, poppyseed, salted sesame and everything bagels go for $2.50 a pop, $15 for half a dozen or $28 for a dozen.

This wildly popular Washington, D.C.-based chain expanded to Denver last year with a debut shop on Tennyson Street, garnering lines so long that employees poured cups of coffee for people while they waited. Call Your Mother later added a second location in Capitol Hill and a third in Hilltop.
Dubbing itself a “Jew-ish” deli, Call Your Mother adds modern or non-traditional twists, enticing the most adventurous morning birds with flavors like za’atar or apple cinnamon and schmears that make you do a double take, including a Cheez-It, apple pie or candied salmon cream cheese.
The bagel recipe borrows from both New York and Montreal by boiling the bagel, adding honey in the dough for a bit of sweetness and baking it in a wood-fired oven. The chewy interior makes a perfect base for its famous bodega bagel sandwiches, like The Bacon Sun City ($10.50) with bacon, egg, cheese and spicy honey on an everything bagel. And for purists, bagels go for $2.50 a piece, $12 for six or $22 for 13.

Leroy’s Bagels constantly struggles to keep up with demand, selling out of nearly 1,300 bagels every day in its current 840-square-foot space in the Sloan’s Lake neighborhood. Long lines full of families and people with dogs practically wrap around the corner on weekend mornings. Made fresh daily, the small shop boils and bakes 16 flavors of bagels, ranging from rosemary to spinach & parmesan. The chewy exterior and doughy, airy center don’t take away from whatever filling you’re craving for breakfast, whether you opt for a toasted base with bacon egg and cheese, or one of the deluxe cream cheese options, including tomato and basil or cucumber and dill.
Nearly everything on the menu, including the breakfast sandwiches, is under $10. Owner Sarah Green is currently working on opening a second location in LoHi this fall.

WoodGrain Bagel & Deli’s Montreal-style bagels are hand-rolled, boiled in honey water and baked in a wood-fired oven. Owner David Bowen, who moved here from Toronto, opened his first store in Boulder in 2017 before adding stores in Denver and Aurora.
“We bake the bagels with sundried oak at variable temperatures in altitude with a staff doing all this by hand,” he said. “No rollers, formers or anything mechanical except the mixer and boiler. I guess I picked the toughest way to do it, but it’s definitely been rewarding as a craft for us.”
You can taste the complexity of the sweetness against the wood-fired bake, and the bagels are best eaten fresh out of the oven (even without cream cheese). Or you can load them up with a breakfast or deli sandwich, like the house-cured pastrami Reuben and as an avocado toast base.
WoodGrain’s everything, plain, salt & pepper, pumpkin, blueberry, (etc.) bagels sell for $2.70 each (or $3.75 for a gluten-free option). Order half a dozen for $13 or a baker’s dozen (13) for $22.
7559 E. Academy Blvd., Denver; 13120 E. 19th Ave., Aurora; 2525 Arapahoe Ave., Boulder; woodgrainbagels.com
Denverites love The Bagel Deli & Restaurant, but not everyone knows that the OG bagel guru, Moe’s Broadway Bagel, supplies the Jewish deli.
Moe’s started its bagel reign in Boulder in 1992 and now has six locations in Denver, Longmont and Louisville, on top of a wholesale operation. The family-owned business bakes and boils 22 different flavors of traditional East Coast-style bagels, like cranberry walnut or tomato cheddar, and gives customers the option to shmear on an unhealthy amount of cream cheese. (Single bagels cost $2.05; half a dozen go for $10.25; and a dozen sell for $20.50)

I know I said I’d list the six best bagel shops in town, but I wanted to give you some other options to mull over in case you need an excuse to eat more carbs:
One to watch: Odell’s Bagel
New Jersey native Miles Odell spent 10 years perfecting his hand-rolled, naturally leavened bagel recipe, which he plans to show off at his first brick-and-mortar, Odell’s Bage l, opening in May.
3200 Irving St., Denver; odellsbagel.com
For your next trip to the mountains: Village Bagel
East Coast transplants Connie and Anthony Mazza brought authentic New York-style bagels (hand-rolled, boiled and baked) to the Vail Valley in 2018 and now have two stores.
34500 US-6 B7, Edwards; 150 Cooley Mesa Rd., Unit I, Gypsum; villagebagel.co
For I-70 commuters: The Bagelry
Nestled in Bergen Park in Evergreen, The Bagelry was founded in 1995 by a native New Yorker who was tired of the grocery store “roll with a hole,” according to the website. The Bagelry’s daily hand-rolled, boiled and baked bagels are a favorite among skiers, snowboarders, hikers, mountain bikers and anyone getting out of town.

The Front Side of Vail Mountain is the primary skiing area and serves as the resort's iconic face. It's the first area visitors encounter upon arriving at the base of Vail Village. This region offers a diverse range of terrain for skiers and snowboarders of all levels, from beginners to experts. The Front Side is characterized by meticulously groomed runs, tree-lined trails, and stunning mountain vistas. Skiers can enjoy wide-open cruisers, well-maintained slopes, and a variety of chairlifts for easy access. The Front Side features a mix of beginner, intermediate, and advanced runs. Notable trails include "Riva Ridge," a long and challenging run, and "Born Free," a popular intermediate trail. Beginners can take advantage of the gentle slopes near the base area. Visitors can find a range of amenities at the base of the Front Side, including ski schools, dining options, ski shops, and equipment rental facilities. The Back Bowls offer a vast expanse of challenging and expert terrain. Skiers and snowboarders can explore the likes of "China Bowl," "Siberia Bowl," and "Sun Down Bowl." These areas are ideal for those seeking powder-filled adventures and open spaces to carve turns. While the Back Bowls themselves lack the amenities found in the base villages, skiers can access them via lifts from the Front Side and return to the base for dining, shopping, and après-ski activities. It's essential to be prepared with backcountry safety gear and knowledge when exploring the Back Bowls.
Blue Sky Basin is a hidden gem on the southern side of Vail Mountain, offering a quieter and more remote skiing experience compared to the Front Side. This area is known for its pristine glades, rolling meadows, and exceptional tree skiing. It provides a sense of seclusion and backcountry adventure without leaving the resort boundaries. Blue Sky Basin features intermediate to expert terrain, with trails like "Big Rock Park," "Grand Review," and "Steep and Deep." The gladded areas are trendy among experienced skiers and snowboarders, offering excellent tree skiing. Blue Sky Basin has a warming hut where skiers can take a break and enjoy the rustic charm. However, there are limited dining and shopping options in this area, so visitors often return to the base villages for a wider variety of amenities.

If you have been aching to get away , now is the time to start planning your 2024 vacation. While international travel may still cost an arm and a leg, flights within the U.S. are pretty affordable. If you plan now, you may be able to sneak away for a long weekend for less than ever.
I'm a Luxury Travel Agent: 10 Destinations My Wealthy Clients Are Booking for 2024 Find Out: How To Get Cash Back on Your Everyday Purchases
At GOBankingRates, we asked travel experts from around the country where the best and most cost-efficient destinations will be next year. Here are 8 affordable trip ideas so you can finally plan that 2024 getaway.
Molly Egan, a travel and hospitality expert and founder of themollyegan , recommended Florida as an inexpensive destination.

She stated, "For a beach getaway in Florida, such as Miami or Sarasota, plan a visit in October or early May to avoid peak times. You will avoid the snowbird crowds, spring breakers and heat, and best of all, snag a great lodging and flight deal!"

Egan noted that for western adventures, she would suggest, "Bozeman, Montana, in June and October, which are slow times for the city, so that you can snag an affordable deal! The same timing goes for Western Colorado towns such as Vail, Colorado."
She continued, "The beginning of October is a great time to see the leaves changing, go hiking, feel like you have the whole mountain town to yourself and find the best lodging deals. If you are interested in skiing, the best time is late November or early December and early to mid-April (the skiing conditions vary, but the deals are the best)."

Tracy Kennedy, an experienced travel advisor at Tasmania , noted, "If you're eyeing an affordable yet enriching U.S. trip for 2024, Savannah, Georgia, should be high on your list. The city is a perfect blend of traditional Southern charm and modern allure, and it's an ideal destination for a 2-3 day weekend getaway. Flights to Savannah are usually economical, with multiple carriers offering competitive rates."
She added, "Once there, you can enjoy quintessential forms of tourism such as exploring the historic district, strolling through Forsyth Park, and taking a riverboat cruise. The culinary scene is exceptional but won't break the bank, offering classic Southern dishes that are rich in flavor but easy on the wallet."
She also stated, "However, what sets Savannah apart is its unique offerings like the Sorrel Weed House Museum. This historic haunted house provides an unforgettable experience, especially if you're planning a trip around Halloween. Not only does it offer a glimpse into 19th-century life in the South, but it also has its share of ghost stories and paranormal activities, adding a thrilling element to your visit."
Adrian Todd, an outdoor and travel expert, hiking coach and owner of Great Minds Think Hike , said, "One of my favorite places to go to is Asheville. Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Asheville is a great destination with various things to do."
He continued, "Asheville has some of the most breweries in and around than most places East of the Mississippi. You can hike in the nearby Great Smoky Mountains National Park, visit the Biltmore Estate, or explore the artsy downtown area."
"Santa Fe is a really neat place," Todd also noted. He explained it is "full of neat adobe style houses and architecture. I recommend going to the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, but to make sure to book way ahead in advance."
He also suggested, "Check out the oldest house and church in the US near the downtown area. Be sure to visit the Loretto Chapel to see the mysterious staircase and head to the downtown area during the market when all the natives come by to sell handcrafted items."
Vacation Season: 10 Essentials You Should Buy at Dollar Tree for Your Next Trip
For fishing and outdoor activities, Todd recommended Stanley, Idaho. He said it is "a small town located to the East in Idaho. It is a beautiful mountain time hugged by the Sawtooth Mountains. I highly recommend checking this place out during the summer months when it is a lot warmer."
He continued, "Go fishing along the Salmon River, hiking to Sawtooth Lake, and camping near Redfish Lake. There is so much to do for all outdoor lovers in this destination."
"Nashville is historically known for its live music scene and offers a vibrant atmosphere and many free or affordable activities," stated Todd. "You can explore the city's music history, visit the Country Music Hall of Fame, and enjoy live music in honky-tonks," he said.
The hiking enthusiast added, "There are also a lot of things to do out in nature in Tennessee if the city life isn't your cup of tea. Check out the Great Smoky Mountains to visit the most popular and visited national park in the US."
"Loveland, Ohio, is known as the 'Sweetheart of Ohio,'" explained Krista Rose, marketing and communications coordinator for the City of Loveland. "We are the perfect destination for a Midwest trip on a budget! We are often told Loveland feels like a 'resort town' and 'time slows down here.'"
She continued, "Loveland is located about 15 miles north of Cincinnati and close to major highways including I-75 and I-71. We are known for our river and trails, making us a favorite trip for outdoor enthusiasts."
For outdoor adventure seekers she recommended, "the Little Miami Scenic Trail is an 80-mile bike/pedestrian trail across Ohio. This trail runs through the center of Loveland. Visit for a day of canoeing, kayaking, and outdoor adventure! After you explore the trail, explore Historic Downtown Loveland's unique shopping and dining. There are quaint AirBNBs and a boutique hotel in town."
