Pattaya Vacations

Once a quaint fishing village, this Gulf Coast city in Thailand has transformed into a resort that never sleeps. It's world-famous for its omnipresent nightlife, but there's a lot more to Pattaya beneath its party-hard surface. In fact, you can circumvent the nightlife all together and make your Pattaya vacation about sumptuous relaxation, abundant water sports, fascinating fauna, classic Thai markets, and culturally-rich festivals.

Major Attractions

There is so much to see, so be sure to rent a car in Pattaya so that you can make it to all the sights. Kids will love the Cartoon Network Amazone, a Cartoon Network-themed water park, as well as the Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum and the exotic animals on display at the Sri Racha Tiger Zoo. Flora and fauna abound at the Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden, and the Siriporn Orchid Farm is a must-see for all flower lovers. Take a tour of the globe at the "mini-world" section of the Mini Siam village, which has replicas of the Eiffel Tower, Trevi Fountain, Statue of Liberty, and more, or head underwater in an actual Vimantaitalay submarine to see what divers marvel at. Of course, you can't miss the giant gold Buddha at the hilltop Wat Khao Phra Bat temple.

Recurring Festivals and Temples

It's a good idea to secure Pattaya package deals during one of the many annual festivals. If dragon parades and lion dances sound intriguing, visit in late January for the Chinese New Year. February's Pattaya Bike Week draws motorcycle enthusiasts from all over Southeast Asia, while March's International Music Festival brings in crowds as well. Progressive Pattaya is home to two transgender beauty pageants, one in May and the other in November. Mid-April brings one of the longest Songkran festivals in the country, and November's Loi Krathong, which involves candle-lit hot air balloons, is particularly beautiful.

Sunsets with a background of the Pattaya skyline make for a snapshot you won't want to miss. Search Pattaya vacation packages and hotel deals in Pattaya on Travelocity, and receive mobile exclusive deals on the Travelocity app.

  • Na Kluea : Experience some of the best nightlife in Pattaya in this neighborhood. There's lots of after-dark fun to be had here! Start the party at Tiffany's Show before seeing what's happening at Alcazar Cabaret. You'll need a nice, long sleep after a huge night out. Luckily, you'll be able to find it at the Sun Smile Resort Pattaya , the 12HEH Pattaya or the LK Legend .

This area features some excellent shopping destinations, like Outlet Mall Pattaya and Big C South Pattaya. You'll need a good sleep after all that splurging. For a comfortable stay, reserve a room at the City 1 Residence , the Royal Thai Residence or the Paragon Suites Resort .
  • Jomtien : If you're hoping to stay in an area with child-friendly attractions and good hotels, this side of town will be a good fit. Let your little travelers work off their extra energy at Mini-Golf Pattaya. Come nighttime, settle them into bed and unwind at the Aya Place , the Brave Lion or the Dacha Beach .
  • Central Pattaya : If you're a night owl, you'll want to stay somewhere with buzzing nightlife attractions where you can let loose. This neighborhood has that covered. Check out Tiffany's Show or Alcazar Cabaret and then crash into bed at the Navin Mansion 2 . Alternatively, snooze off your fun at the Nantra Cozy or the Embryo Hotel .
  • Pratumnak Hill : The Joy Residence , the OYO 648 Ake Apartment and the Phu View Talay Resort have all the creature comforts you need for a pleasurable stay. But if nature is what really calms you, a saunter around Pattaya View Point and Phrabat Mountain will be just the ticket.

Sanctuary of Truth, wooden temple

Getty Images/Lonely Planet Images

Even if you know exactly what to expect of Pattaya, it still comes as an eye-popping sensory explosion. Multicultural, hyper-touristy Pattaya (เมืองพัทยา) boasts some excellent and good value places to stay and eat, and the area is also a family-friendly resort coast. Nevertheless, the city itself is no tropical paradise; its reputation for sleaze is totally deserved, with hundreds of beer bars, go-go clubs and massage parlors. Much of the rest is dedicated to mass-market sun-seeking tourism, with a huge retired expat population, and enormous tour groups hurried through town in an almost constant stream. For a relaxing stay in Pattaya, base yourself outside the central area.

Frequently asked questions

  • The trick to having a hassle-free flight experience is to pack ahead. So, let’s start with the basics: passport, travel docs, credit cards and any vital medications. Next, bring items that’ll help keep you entertained, like some electronic gadgets or a good book. It’s also a wise idea to bring your chargers, a quality neck pillow and a pair of headphones. And of course, don’t forget to chuck in toiletries like a toothbrush, deodorant and a clean set of clothes.
  • Pack all your full-sized bottles of hair gel and hairspray in your checked baggage. Any liquids in your carry-on suitcase larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) will be confiscated. Pointed or sharp objects, like your pocket knife, and products which are flammable or explosive, such as aerosol cans, spray paint and strong acids, are also not allowed.
  • Comfort really should be your priority when picking what to wear on board. Consider your footwear with care too, as swollen ankles and feet are a common occurrence. Roomy, closed-toed shoes are always a good idea.
  • The result of sustained periods of inactivity, DVT (deep vein thrombosis) is a blood clot condition that can affect some passengers during long flights. The great news is there are proven ways to reduce the risk of developing it. Keep your fluids up, get up and walk around the cabin wherever possible and wear compression tights or socks.
  • Have your boarding pass and ID easily accessible. They’re the first things you’ll be asked to present to security.
  • After that, both you and your hand luggage must be X-rayed. To make the process quick and painless, remove anything that is likely to set the alarm off. Personal belongings like your coat, belt and earphones will be required to go through the machine.
  • For just a few minutes, you’ll need to unplug from the digital world. Your tablet, phone and any other electronic devices must also be sent through the scanner.
  • Remove liquids and gels from your carry-on luggage. They often need to be sent through the X-ray machine separately. Each item should be in a container no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) and everything must fit inside a quart-size (one liter), clear zip-lock bag.
  • There’s a possibility that you’ll be required to remove your shoes to be X-rayed, so wearing slip-on shoes is always a clever idea.
  • Airlines won’t allow any sharp or pointed objects to come on board with you. If you need to bring these kinds of items, pack them in your checked luggage.

14 Top-Rated Things to Do in Pattaya

Written by Diana Bocco and Karen Hastings Updated Dec 25, 2023 We may earn a commission from affiliate links ( )

Thailand's famous beach resort town of Pattaya has developed a colorful reputation over the years. Located less than 200 kilometers from Thailand's capital city of Bangkok, it's a convenient place to enjoy the sun, sand, and sea.

Pattaya has drawn tourists and expats from all over the world ever since US soldiers "discovered" the once-sleepy getaway destination during the Vietnam War. Since then, Pattaya's profile has steadily increased, and it is now one of the most popular beach destinations in Southeast Asia.

In recent years, the government has made efforts to attract families to Pattaya, and you'll find a host of kid-friendly attractions and things to do, like water parks and an aquarium. Still, it remains more of an adult's destination – especially the area along Walking Street , the main entertainment hub in town.

If you are traveling with the family or are seeking a more subdued location, check out Jomtien Beach or Naklua. These areas are still touristy, but quieter than the bustling center of town. Plan your travels with our list of the top things to do in Pattaya.

1. Explore Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden

2. work on your tan at jomtien beach, 3. discover the sanctuary of truth, 4. wat yansangwararam, 5. big buddha (wat phra yai), 6. take a day trip to koh larn (coral island), 7. art in paradise, 8. escape the heat at ramayana water park, 9. four regions floating market, 10. shop for your next meal at naklua fish market, 11. mini siam, 12. underwater world pattaya, 13. shop for keepsakes at thepprasit night market, 14. see the giant buddha engraving at khao chi chan, where to stay in pattaya for sightseeing, map of things to do in pattaya.

Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden

The sprawling park at Nong Nooch (pronounced "nung nut") Village offers a variety of activities for all the family. Walkways wind among colorful themed gardens, including a topiary garden; 17th-century French garden; European Renaissance garden; and species-specific gardens featuring plants like tropical palms, succulents, and bonsai.

The magnificent orchid garden will awaken the inner horticulturist in anyone. Live shows at the Thai Cultural Hall add to the line-up with performances of traditional Thai dancing, sword-fighting, Thai kickboxing, and an elephant show of dubious ethical quality.

You can rent a bicycle to explore the different areas of the park, and door-to-door transportation is available.

Address: 34/1 Moo 7 Na Jomtien, Sattahip

Nong Nooch Orchid Wonderland, Pattaya, Chonburi - Layout map

Stretching for six kilometers, Jomtien Beach is at the top of the places to visit in Pattaya and a welcome escape from the bustle of the main city four kilometers away. You can sunbathe along its golden shores or take refuge in shade provided by trees at the beach's edge. Water lovers can enjoy all kinds of activities, including jet-skiing, kitesurfing, parasailing, and windsurfing.

When you need refreshments, you'll find plenty of restaurants and cafés along the beach serving local fare and fresh seafood.

Right nearby, family-friendly Cartoon Network Amazone is an action-packed water park replete with spiraling slides, sprawling pools, splashing fountains, and cartoon-themed rides and characters.

Sanctuary of Truth

Billed as "the magnificence of heaven recreated on Earth," this massive monument, built entirely of wood, is a study in Thai architectural styles. Every available space is intricately decorated with wooden carvings, and the entire structure was built to pay homage to ancient religions and philosophies.

The cycle of life, Utopia, and humanity's relationship to the universe are some of the themes reflected in the artwork here. While visiting the sanctuary, you can enjoy Thai cultural shows and Thai boxing, go elephant trekking or horseback riding or take a ride on a speedboat.

Address: 206/2 Moo 5, Soi Naklua 12 , Naklua, Banglamung

Official site: http://sanctuaryoftruthmuseum.com/

Wat Yansangwararam

As with all of Thailand's impressive wats (temples), Wat Yansangwararam (known as Wat Yan) offers insight not only into Thai design and architectural traditions but also into the society's values. Surrounded by sprawling palm-studded gardens, the temple was dedicated to King Bhumibol Adulyadej in 1988 to commemorate the 42nd year of his reign.

Precious Buddhist relics are housed in the main complex, and on the right-hand side of the path leading to the temple is a lake with impressive Chinese pavilions, filled with antiques and artifacts. Wat Yansangwararam's shrine stands on a hill, reached by a flight of 299 steps lined with Naga snakes.

Big Buddha (Wat Phra Yai)

This 18-meter-tall golden statue of the Buddha looks peaceful and relaxed perched atop the wooded Pratamnak Hill south of Pattaya. Climb the steep stairs, adorned on both sides with golden Naga snakes, to see the statue up close and admire the several smaller Buddhas surrounding it.

Many locals come here to pray for good health, happiness, and prosperity. You can also enjoy beautiful views over Pattaya and the bay from the top of the hill. If you're not up for a long walk up the hill, you can catch a taxi up and save your energy to climb the stairs to the statues.

Koh Larn (Coral Island) Day Trip

A 30-minute speed boat ride or 45-minute ferry ride from Pattaya, Koh Larn (also called Koh Lan) is a relatively peaceful escape from tourist-packed Pattaya. Several white-sand beaches stretch along the island's shores, with food stalls, restroom facilities, and plenty of water sports. Parasailing, banana boat rides, and underwater Sea Walking are some of the most popular.

Tien is one of the prettiest beaches, and monkeys frolic on Nual Beach . You can rent motorbikes to tour the island, and it's also possible to stay overnight at one of the many resorts along the beach at Samae and Tawaen . This is a popular place for families to spend the day away from the hubbub of Pattaya.

Art in Paradise

Family-friendly Art in Paradise is an illusion art museum and the perfect place for fun photo ops. It's also a great place to visit when you need a break from the heat. Tickle a whale's belly, touch a rhino, or tackle a marlin in life-like artwork, and capture the moment in a photograph to share with family and friends later.

The different themed zones include classic art, Egypt, the underwater world, safari, dinosaurs, and fantasy. This is a great rainy day attraction and a fun place to round out your vacation photo collection.

Address: 78/34 Pattaya Sai 2 Road, Muang Pattaya, Nongprue, Bang Lamung, Chonburi Chang Wat Chon Buri 20150

Ramayana Water Park

Billed as "the biggest and best water park in Thailand," Ramayana Water Park offers an exhilarating day out for travelers of all ages, with 21 different water-themed rides. A riot of colorful, serpentine slides spiral around the park, including a heart-stopping freefall and more gentle slides for the little ones.

Other things to do here include the double wave pool, a kids' Aquasplash park with fountains, and even a green maze. The lazy river ride snakes through mysterious caves and bubbling geysers. Daily activities add to all the fun and include water polo, fish feeding, Zumba, and volleyball.

Address: 9 Moo 7 Ban Yen Road, Na Chom Thian Sattahip District

Official site: https://www.ramayanawaterpark.com/

Four Regions Floating Market

The first and only floating market in Pattaya, this bustling hive of commerce is divided into different sections selling merchandise from the four major areas of Thailand. Souvenirs, arts and crafts, and clothing are among the many items sold here, and it's also a great place to indulge in some exotic cuisine; you can try everything from scorpions to crickets and crocodile meat.

A great way to explore the markets is to rent a boat. Unlike more authentic floating markets, you have to pay for admission here. Your ticket gets you more than just a boat ride, however. There are shows and activities to be enjoyed here, including sea boxing, traditional Thai dances, and even a zipline over the water.

Address: 451/304 Mu 12, Sukhumvit Road, Tambon Nong Prue, Amphoe Bang Lamung

Official site: https://www.pattayafloatingmarket.com

Naklua Fish Market

For a slice of local life and succulent fresh seafood, head to the fish market in the small town of Naklua, about a ten-minute taxi ride north of Pattaya. Vendors sell fresh-caught seafood at bargain prices and barbecue it for you on-site.

You can also buy fresh fruit and other locally sourced foods, and several good restaurants are also in the area. A group taxi is the most cost-effective mode of transport, so make some new friends while lounging at the beach and make an outing of it together.

Mini Siam

A fun way to see the wonders of Thailand and the world, Mini Siam displays models of some of the most famous international sites. Among those on display are Bangkok's Victory Monument and Wat Arun (also known as the Temple of the Dawn), New York's Statue of Liberty, London's Tower Bridge, the Sydney Opera House , and the L'Arc de Triomphe in Paris.

Children, especially, will enjoy seeing some of these famous structures all in one place. Arrive in the late afternoon to catch the sunset, when special warm lights turn on Bookings should be made at least a day in advance.

Underwater World Pattaya

Underwater World might not be as big as other aquariums, but it's home to an impressive array of sea creatures from different underwater environments. Here, at Thailand's first modern aquarium, you can feed koi fish from bottles, get up close to sharks and rays, feel the texture of sea creatures in the touch pool, and see Thailand's largest collection of jellyfish.

Special events for children include the Sleepover with Sharks & Rays Camp, where kids can spend a night in the underwater glass tunnel learning about marine animals.

Colorful lamps at the Thepprasit Night Market

This bustling Friday to Sunday market runs between 5 and 11pm and attracts both locals and tourists. While there are other markets in Pattaya, the ones in the city center tend to charge more, so it's worth hopping on a tuk-tuk to get to Thepprasit. There are both indoor and outdoor stalls here, but the indoor part of the market is by far the largest and most impressive.

As with most Thai markets, there's not a lot of rhyme or reason to the way the stalls are set up, with sellers offering hot food standing next to those selling electronics or T-shirts. To get the best deals, you'll have to walk the entire length and width of the market and practice your haggling skills.

Be on the lookout for copied designer items and dodgy products, and instead focus on paper lamps, authentic souvenirs, and surprisingly cheap silk clothing.

Buddha engraving at Khao Chi Chan

Known as Buddha Mountain, Khao Chi Chan is a limestone hill with the world's largest Buddha image carved right on it. The golden carving of a sitting Buddha measures 109 meters tall and 70 meters wide, and takes over most of the side of the towering rock.

Created in 1996 as both an homage to the king and as a place for local Buddhists to visit, the image was cut into the stone using guided laser technology, then inlaid with gold leaf.

A tranquil garden with a small lake, paved paths, and a number of water pools filled with lotus flowers add to the beauty of the place. You'll find a few vendors and a small visitors center here, but in general, it's a place for worship and to relax surrounded by beautiful scenery.

The mountain is located just 15 kilometers outside Pattaya and not far from Jom Tien beach. While in the area, you can visit the Viharn Sien temple and museum, which houses a beautiful collection of bronze statues, cultural and religious artifacts, and a number of archeological finds.

Most travelers visit Pattaya for the lively entertainment venues on Walking Street and the sun-soaked beaches. If you're seeking seaside relaxation away from the buzz of the busy downtown strip but with easy access to it, Pattaya Hill is not only the best place to stay, but also home to many of the upmarket hotels. Families usually prefer Jomtien Beach. Here are some highly-rated hotels in these areas:

Luxury Hotels:

  • Seemingly a world away from the city buzz yet only a 12-minute drive to Walking Street, Royal Wing Suites & Spa is an all-suite hotel presiding over a lush mountainside, with a private beach and beautiful views of the sea.
  • At the InterContinental Pattaya Resort , you get stunning open views over the Gulf of Thailand, easy access to the Pattaya Floating Market, and all the luxuries you can expect from a 5-star resort.
  • Sitting right on its own private beach on Pattaya Bay, the Cape Dara Resort also offers ocean-view rooms, a pool overlooking the ocean, and a great club lounge with plenty of amenities.
  • If you want to stay even closer to Walking Street, the Hilton Pattaya is a mere three-minute stroll away.

Mid-Range Hotels:

  • Across the road from the beach and within walking distance of shops and restaurants, Holiday Inn Pattaya is a popular mid-range option.
  • If you're looking for light-filled contemporary accommodation, Hotel Baraquda Pattaya - MGallery Collection , with an inviting fish-shaped pool, offers great value within walking distance of the beach and all the downtown action.
  • Far from the madding crowds and featuring stunning sea views, the Royal Cliff Beach Terrace is renovated in contemporary Thai style, with seven sparkling swimming pools and two-bedroom suites for families.

Budget Hotels:

  • At a budget-friendly price, Ibis Pattaya , in quieter North Pattaya, lies an easy four-minute walk from the beach but eleven minutes by car to Walking Street.
  • The Chada Thai House is another good option and lies within walking distance of the city's main street and the beach.
  • If you prefer a quieter location, the OYO 521 Chaba Garden Resort & Service offers excellent value and a small pool.

Top 5 airlines flying to Pattaya

The flight crews were extremely professional, helpful, and courteous. Departure and arrival times were accurate. No delay. I will use K airline again. Thanks

Great crew, decent food Charging plugs were broken on both seats next to me. Only the USB port was available, and that charges, very, very slowly. Seat was also broken, it would not lock into position when reclining.

Korean Air had great service and the Bibimbap dish was the best airplane food I’ve ever had. It was a long flight so in between the two meals they served customers could get Shin ramen. The flight attendants let my children use a pair of nice headphones for the flight and had earbuds and slippers for all the adults. The flight was long but the time passed by relatively quickly because they have many great shows in their entertainment TV. I watched the BTS Love Yourself and Speak Yourself concerts 💜

not too bad but not too great either. Service on all airlines declined ever since covid. Your Delta Stewardess are not that friendly at all. :-(

You did not put me on a Korean Air flight! so I do not have nothing to say

My flight was diverted to Atlanta and I was not given enough time. I paid my travel on April 23, 2023. It was originally Delta from Norfolk to NY, then Korean Air from NY all the way Philippines which is my final stop. Instead from Atlanta to Korea I flew Delta which is okay. Then Korea to Philippines, I flew Asiana Airlines. What I did not like, Ieagle did not sent me an email that my flight was change and so when I went to check in Wednesday the 10th, at 4:30 a.m they told me my flight was delayed at 6;00 p.m and diverted in Atlanta and I am flying Asiana from Korea to Philippines. I do not appreciate that Kayak or Ieagle chenge our flights 5 times and then last minute change again during my day of flight. I hope that you will not make any changes of my flight o Feb 15th because it has to be the same flight with my husband. That is the reason why we made the arrangements early on.

Wonderful cabin crew!!!!! Food was poor, in flight entertainment was just ok. They need to serve more water on a 15 hour flight--we were dehydrated and kept asking for water.

Going through security a third time to get on the next flight was again utterly ridiculous and unnecessary. We were in a International secure area once again and as far as I'm concerned should not have been put through the gears for absolutely no reason. The United States can get all the information they need from the travel itinerary, there was no need to be forced out of a secure area to personally interview everyone on a connecting flight to find out their US immigration status.

Flight arrived early, fantastic, since it is short flight, no food being served

Always fly with Korean Airlines. Best service great food. Nice and clean as always.

Fast and efficient boarding. Flight was on time. Service was very good for our long flight. First time flying with this airline and I would highly recommend.

Eva Air's Business Class is pretty decent. With the given price, I think that the food can be better.

Pleasant, comfortable, and entertaining. All told, ZERO issues with it. And sadly, so far the flight was WAY more comfortable than the hellhole that is "Lambug Beach Resort" at Badian Beach!

It was a pleasant fly with Eva Air from NYC to Taipei. The crew were friendly and the food was exceeded my expectation.

Eva air is a good airline. The seats on the way to Taipei could have certainly been more comfortable, but all in all it was a pretty good experience.

Boarding is fast and easy for economy class, food was ok baggage policies are good

Overall the flight was what might be expected for a long haul flight to Asia in economy class. The cabin crew was attentive and the food was good. Boarding was fairly fast and easy. The one thing I found frustrating was the EVA app. It is terrible. Trying to do anything on it was almost impossible.

EVA would not help with ticket issue since they were purchased through a travel agency. Even though it was EVA ticket stock. Travel agency Budget Air didn't reissue ticket after airline change which I didn’t learn until trying to checkin on Christmas Day and there was no contact number for the agency to help. I will never use Budget Air to purchase flight again and disappointed in EVA’s refusal to help. Thankfully just under 12 hrs before departure someone from the agency was available to reissue tickets. I was starting to think we would not be flying and the stress trying to resolve was completely unacceptable.

seamless check in/ friendly staff, food is good, always love flying Eva Air

Very uncomfortable and crowded seats in economy. Flight attendant refused request to move to nearby unused seat with more legroom because “It was more money for that seat”. It was also near impossible to reach airline directly by phone. Waits upwards of an hour and not very helpful customer service representatives after long wait. Cannot recommend this airline.

Decent flight, staff was very good, especially with the turbulence during the flight due to weather. Comfort was about par with other airlines but since it was a quick flight, was not much of an issue for us.

It was a 2 hour flight to Taiwan. Lunch was served. China Airlines goes above and beyond for their passengers.

Liked that I could pick my seat and have a special meal without an extra charge. Luggage is reasonable for overseas trip. What could have been better is boarding and leaving on time.

They were helpful, considerate with asking us for standby preboarding with our infant, gave us toys and excellent service onboard. They were always on time, even early boarding once! All our luggage arrived intact, and they even brought our baby car seat to oversized for us. We love China Airlines!

Better training to have qualified crews and services. My flight was from around 12 midnight Friday Taipei to Vancouver. After two hours first meal (2:00 Am -8:00 ) no crew available for even asking for some water. I was even willing to pay for water. For breakfast after 8 hours the only drink was tea and coffee no water or juice.

3 of the 4 flights had delays despite the weather being fine, but still managed to make all connections

Ask flight attendant for water during flight and she was a little rude get the water.

Staff were good and nice. There should me 3 meals instead of only 2 and snacks.

Flight was delay almost 2 hours from Hong Kong to Taipei. Last minute gate change from 24 to 66. Long way walk. We need to run in the Taipei airport to catch our next flight from Taipei to Vancouver. That is so suck!

For a long-haul flight, the crew did a very good job of keeping the lavatories clean and the aisles clear.

Seat back monitors and outlets were dead and not working.

Everything was great except for the seat. The backrest would not stay in the upright position.

I usually have a positive experience with Delta. Complimentary upgrades are always nice!

Flight delayed about 2 hrs so it made it a VERY late night

The crew, food, and entertainment were all good. But my screen had some sort of bug where if I turned it off, it would turn back on after 2-5 minutes. At full brightness. It made it very hard to get any shut-eye on the overnight flight. Also, the older Boeing plane, while nicely cared for (and no doors fell off 😅👏) doesn't have the nice air quality of newer planes. So I felt a bit greasy by the time we landed in Sweden.

It was a crowded flight. They did the best they could.

Service was good for such a short flight. Small plane but smooth flight.

Worst flight in my life. Only was scheduled for a 45 min flight to get our connection flight. It was late by 40 minutes and we missed our connection. Delta was totally useless trying to help and unable to get my family on the next flight because they overbooked it Thus had to get a hotel at my expense and lost a day at Disney as a result. Cost me about a $1000 if you add 2 hotels meals shuttles etc to get thru the day Awful customer service by Delta in Detroit totally useless people

The experience was good and the flight departed on time and landed early

The flight was delayed but we got to our final destination.

Quality of service on board was very inconsistent. FA service primarily seemed robotic and they barely engaged with passengers

I’m unclear why I had to pay extra for assigned seats as Turkish airlines did not honor the seating. We were placed across the aisle from each other on TK 34, and were seated behind one another on TK 694. Because my name was misspelled on e-ticket (Klawiter, instead of Klawitter) I could not log onto website to get the connection gate number in Istanbul. The monitors in the airport were a jumbled mess 1/2 Arabic and 1/2 English.

The airplane from IAD to Istanbul was too old. The chairs were to tight and uncomfortable. I continued my travel from Istanbul to Bangkok. This airplane was better and newer than the first one. Even food was better.

On line check in needs a lot of improvement. I tried and gave up.

They use a smaller international plane and quarters are tighter, space smaller, and the flight is still 12 hours, then fight attendants are ruff, food is bad, cherry juice spilled by flight attendant and she comes back to ask why have we not changed yet could it be we didn’t have any clothes to change into and seat is all wet and we had to sit there for 12 hours

Food not good, flight attendants not the best, not accommodating very ruff

the female flight attendant was racist towards me. I could tell she treated the two other passengers next to me with more softness.

Oh my god! For an13 hour flight they serve you food just one time. Also don’t be thirsty they give you a little small cup of soda to drink. They seem like their goal is to feed you one so they don’t have to be bothered with you. It quite surprise for such a long flight there are several times to eat at least three and the food was well lackluster. The food and lack of offering drinks which were always hot no ice provided.

We were traveling first class. Checkin counter lady and her manager, both were in bad mood and did not treat us well about checking in the handbag. The gate agent took care of it right away. I travel Turkish twice a year in first class. No one has ever refused to check in the hand bag. Not sure, why this agent and her manager refused. Everything else was excellent.

The 787 economy was a disaster for long haul. The space was too little compared to 777 or 747. Also the extremely low tray table behind the seat made any dining effort a nightmare. However, the movies were up to date, and the food taste was good, despite of terrible serving process caused by small space.

7. Defy Gravity at Upside Down Pattaya

Upside Down Pattaya

Prepare to be both bamboozled and confounded at the Upside Down House. With it’s fully functional and fully furnished interior, everything from making a cup of tea to using the bathroom takes on an entirely new dimension here.

8. Explore China at Anek Kusala Sala

Explore China at Anek Kusala Sala

Less than 20 kilometers outside of Pattaya, an enormous collection of Chinese archives and artifacts awaits your attention. The product of the life’s work of a Thai man raised in China, his passion resulted in one of the finest collections of Chinese art outside of the great state.

This temple and museum are also regarded as ‘Viharn Sien’, which translates to ‘House of the Gods’. The interior of the museum is astonishing, full of numerous and elaborate Chinese antiques and sculptures. The grounds cover just over one hectare and contain a lovely lake to sit by and enjoy lunch.

9. Get Tipsy at the Silverlake Winery/Vineyard

Silverlake Winery

You surely didn’t come to Thailand to laze at a wine-farm instead of lying at Jomtien Beach? Yet a 20-minutes away from this exact beach is Thailand’s top-rated winery and vineyards. Although the country is not famed for its grape production, you’ll find great produce here.

The great charm of the place, however, comes from the juxtaposition.  East and west collide here without so much as a though paid to combining them. Face one way and you’ll think you’re in northern Europe, face another and you’ll see northern Italy.

This spectacular winery is adorned with lovely quaint gardens and wine-tasting in this lovely setting is recommended.

Pattaya is comparable to any other Thai destination where you are at some risk in the busy areas. Tourists are susceptible to opportunistic crimes, so watch your belongings at all times and simply be vigilant. You should pay particular attention to yourself on the walking street, and central beaches. Pattaya improves year by year but has earnt itself a reputation over the years for scams and pickpockets.

Keep in mind that Pattaya still is a coastal city and the resorts here are abundant! It is still very possible to have a relaxed tropical holiday here without the nightlife.

Crimes are committed to people who intentionally visit areas known to be sordid, and tourists are rarely affected. If you stick to the tourist-catered destinations and sheltered resorts, you’ll be perfectly safe. Most of all, always get travel insurance before you fly. Check out our roundup of  the best travel insurance .

3D2N Pattaya Itinerary — An Unexpected Adventure 2hrs from Bangkok

trip to pattaya

Unexpected gems in the beachside city, just two hours from Bangkok!

trip to pattaya

“What’s near a beach and not too far from Bangkok?”

As part of our Airbnb Live Anywhere adventures , we got to live in Thailand for a month and that gave us the opportunity to explore places we’d often overlook as tourists.

Pattaya might not be the first destination that comes to mind when planning a getaway in Thailand but this quick 3D2N in Pattaya surprised us with some cool finds and hidden gems we didn’t expect while planning this trip.

Getting to Pattaya (from Bangkok)

Bangkok Chic Car Rental SUV Thailand Road Trip - Things to do in Bangkok

Pattaya is an easy 1.5–2-hour drive from Bangkok and parking is widely available. That said, most of the attractions are centred in the city or are easily accessible by Grab so it’d be convenient for non-drivers too. Here are some options:

Car rental — rental rates start at about ~S$37/day, but do consider topping up insurance for zero excess coverage

Private City Transfer — from ~S$67, the driver picks you up from your accommodation in Bangkok and drops you off at your Pattaya accommodation

Public bus — from Bangkok, ride the bus to Pattaya from (1) the Bangkok Bus Terminal (20 mins from Don Mueang International Airport ), or (2) Ekkamai Bus Terminal near the Ekkamai BTS Station . It costs ฿131 (~S$5) from Ekkamai with hourly departures.

Getting around Pattaya

Speed Boat - Pattaya Itinerary

Car Rental (from Bangkok): This option allows you flexibility, and parking is widely available. You could rent a car when you land in Bangkok !

Grab: Grab bikes and cars are widely available and at affordable prices.

Songhtaews /Baht buses : These are the open-air public vehicles that can bring you to nearby places like the beach or the market streets. Just flag them down and tell them your destination. Rides usually cost between ฿10-50.

Check in to your hotel in Pattaya

Swimming pool - Hard Rock Hotel Review

After scrolling through some options on Klook’s hotel listings , we landed on an old favourite — Hard Rock Hotel Pattaya . It’s located right along Pattaya Beach and has a massive swimming pool, along with the iconic Hard Rock Cafe within its compounds.

If you’ve never had a Hard Rock hotel experience, this is a good place to try it out!

Cost: From ~S$91/night for a deluxe room incl. breakfast (up to 2 pax) How to get there:  18min drive from North Pattaya Bus Terminal ( Google Maps )

Sanctuary of Truth

Sanctuary of Truth - Pattaya Itinerary

If you only have time for one cultural marvel this trip, it would be the  Sanctuary of Truth — the largest wooden castle in the world. This is the largest building in Thailand, solely constructed out of wood. It was made using ancient Thai carpentry which doesn’t use nails.

Sanctuary of Truth interior - Pattaya Itinerary

It already looks mystical from far, but it’s worth approaching it up close to check out the incredibly detailed woodwork. Each panel tells stories of the various spiritual worlds ranging from the Hindu Brahma and the Buddhist Guan Yin.

Sanctuary of Truth1 - Pattaya Itinerary

Despite the impressive front, the building has been under construction since 1981 and is only expected to be completed in 2025 or later. Hire a guide to get more insight into the various halls and the intricate wood carvings.

Entrance fee: ฿500 or   ~S$15/pax via Klook Opening hours:  8AM – 6PM, 6:30PM – 8:30PM How to get there:  13min drive from North Pattaya Bus Terminal ( Google Maps )

3 Mermaids Cafe

3 Mermaids Cafe - Pattaya Itinerary

We chanced upon this by accident while looking for lunch near Cozy Beach , a lesser-known beach with amazing sunset views. There are a few fancy cafes in this area but 3 Mermaids stood out to us with its nest pods floating along the side of the hill. These pods tend to get booked out for sunset so do give them a call if you’d like to have one to yourself.

Cost:  ~S$16/pax Opening hours:  10AM – 10PM How to get there:  1min walk from Cozy Beach ( Google Maps )

Squid Fishing at Tappia Floating Cafe

Tappia Floating Cafe at night in Pattaya

Tappia Floating Cafe is a restaurant located on the water off the coast of Pattaya. Apart from swimming across (jk), the only way to get across is by speed boat from Bali Hai Pier.

Squid Fishing at Tappia Floating Cafe

Come for the live music and chill atmosphere over dinner and drinks. If you’re up for the challenge, you can have a go at squid fishing. Fair warning: it’s not going to be easy but if you manage to catch one, the staff will prepare it into squid sashimi for you.

Cost:  ~S$15/pax via Klook (incl. drink and road trip speed boat from Bali Hai Pier) Opening hours:  4PM – 10PM, Last entry 8PM Meeting point:  Drive 5mins from Pattaya City Sign to the Bali Hai Pier meeting point ( Google Maps )

Day Trip to Koh Larn Island

Koh Larn Island aerial view

One of the most famous islands to explore from Pattaya is Koh Larn . Stepping on this island felt like we were stepping into Evian water. Yes, the water was that clear, which makes it a great stop for snorkelling and other fun water activities.

Casablanca Resort in Koh Larn

If you have a little more time, you could even opt to stay the night at the cosy resort-like Casablanca Resort .

If not, hop on a full-day Koh Larn tour from Pattaya to experience it all. The tour includes a round-trip speed boat to the island as well as lunch.

Paragliding off Koh Larn Island Thailand

Optional parasailing session before arriving at Koh Larn Island

Kayaking in a glass bottom boat in Koh Larn

Once you’ve arrived at the islands, various activities await. Speed off on a jet-ski, test your balance on a banana boat, or rent a SUP board and go at your own pace.

Just remember to bring along sunblock and a cap as the sun can be intense.

Lunch is included as well!

ATV Off-Road Adventure

ATV Off Road Adventures in Pattaya

One of my unexpectedly favourite experiences in Pattaya was this off-road ATV adventure .

Depending on your level of comfort with the ATV, the guide will introduce you to various off-road terrains. We got to ride over hills so steep you couldn’t see the track from the top, to muddy ditches that make you doubt if you’ll make it out on the other side — but the guide is super skilled so don’t worry if you do end up getting stuck!

Cost:  ~S$109/pax  for a 27km route,  ~S$129  for a 34km route (incl. round trip hotel transfer and lunch) Tour timings:  10:30AM – 1:30PM, 2:30PM – 5:30PM Meeting point: Hotel pick-up

Bonus: Other activities near Pattaya

Skydive in si racha.

Skydiving in Pattaya - Thai Skydive Adventures

Located in Si Racha, about 45 minutes from Pattaya city, is a nice drop zone for those looking for a little dose of adrenaline. Book yourself a tandem skydive, or if you’re up for the adventure, take it up a notch — sign up for an accelerated freefall (AFF) course and learn to jump out of planes on your own.

Cost: From ฿8,450 for tandem jumps How to get there: 7min drive from Nong Kho Public Park ( Google Maps )

Shooting range in Si Racha

Light Bullet Shooting Range in Pattaya

And while you’re at Si Racha, pop a visit to Light Bullet shooting range just next to the skydiving dropzone. The basic shooting package includes three different guns (rifle, pistol, and revolver) with 10 rounds each.

Don’t worry if you’ve never held a gun as there will be an instructor to cover the basics and ensure everyone’s safety.

Cost:   From ~S$66/pax via Klook (for 3-gun package) Opening hours:  10AM – 5PM (last admission: 4:30PM) How to get there:  7min drive from Nong Kho Public Park ( Google Maps )

How to Reach Pattaya?

There is no airport in Pattaya. Instead it is serviced by the Suvarnabhumi airport of Bangkok, which is located nearly 120 kms away from Pattaya. Several airlines offer regular flights to almost all parts of the world, especially within Asia and to India. There is also an airbase near Pattaya, known as the U-Tapao air base, nearly 30 kms away from the city, which can also be made use of if traveling by Bangkok Airways.

You can reach Pattaya from Bangkok or other Thai cities with complete ease, thanks to the well-maintained roadways and regular connections offered by taxis, shared charters and local buses. Located a little less than 150 kms from Bangkok, you can choose from a varied mode of transportation when deciding how to get to Pattaya.

Although not used very often by first time travelers, the rail network that connects Bangkok to Pattaya is a good option for budget travelers. There is a daily train service that ensures you can travel easily and for cheap, since the train is class III and without air conditioning, but worth it if you want to get an authentic experience.
