Hailing from Orlando, Florida, USA, Trivium are a metal band that formed in 2000. They have released a handful of studio albums, and have been hailed as the biggest thrash metal band to form in the 21st century.

Trivium began with a talent show at the Lake Brantley High School in Altamonte Springs, Florida. Way back in the year 2000, one of its acts was a fourteen year old guitar player by the name of Matt Heafy, whose performance of Metallica’s “No Leaf Clover” caught the eye of Trivium’s very first singer Brad Lewter. Impressed, the vocalist asked him to try out and soon after, Heafy was an official member of the band.

The band started gigging soon afterwards and after some time, Lewter left the band, allowing Heafy to take over lead vocal duties as well as playing rhythm guitar. It was with this set up that Trivium went into the studio and recorded their debut album “Ember To Inferno”, releasing it in October 2003. The album was enough to tour with Machine Head off the back of it, who in turn, introduced them to the folks at iconic metal label Roadrunner Records.

It was their second record however, that made the band what they are today. Released on Roadrunner in March 2005, “Ascendancy” wasn’t a hit immediately but thanks to positive critical reception, word of mouth and an utterly astonishing set at the 2005 Download Festival, it went on to make their name on the world stage. Over 100,000 copies sold in the U.K alone later, it became one of the decade’s touchstone metal albums.

Since then, they have remained near the top of the metal world as one of the century’s first true success stories. The likes of "Like Light to the Flies", "Pull Harder on the Strings of Your Martyr" and "A Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation" are new metal standards that thousands of garage bands practise to this day. There really is no higher compliment than that when it comes to rock and roll. No true metal head can go wrong with a Trivium gig, highly recommended.

Live reviews

Before Trivium even walked onto the stage, haunting, dark ambient music drifted across the festival, creating a brooding atmosphere. The band walked out and were playing "Rain" within seconds.

The audience was overwhelmed with energy, thrashing everywhere, and overcome with passion. The guitar riffs were so heavy, it was actually kind of surprising. The best thing that Trivium is known for is their use of melody just as much as abrasiveness, and it creates a truly beautiful mix. When the band switches from heavy chugging to emotional, somber and ecstatic riffage, you cant help but want to start slamming your head, and letting out every built up tension you have. The audience was it's own experience.

Completely different from what you see at other shows, there are walls and walls of people flailing about everywhere, passionately yelling along with the singer. You better be prepared to be knocked on the head a few times(but don't worry. If you fall, someone will happily help you back up.).The music was beautiful, heavy, and loud. What was not to love? Every song has plenty of energy, and cool riffs. Seeing Trivium was a great experience, and I recommend them to anyone who loves heavy, passionate music.

These guys just know what they are doing, you can hear that clearly and loudly. The crowd always goes wild because this band shows exactly what the power and love of music really is. I think these guys found the perfect balance between "heavy" and "melodic" songs and that is the reason why I also think their music is very unique. And I have to talk about Matt Heafy. This guy is probably the most down-to-earth vocalist I have ever seen, he is very respectful with everyone, and also very thankful for having a career like that, you can definitely see that he actually means it. So in conclusion, I am very happy that I discovered this band and I am a huge fanboy.

Electric concert. The band's playing is almost flawless, almost album worthy and Matt's antics are always a must. He really gets the crowd going. To bad his voice was not in the best shape, which is understandable in the end of the tour. The setlist was awesome, of course it's impossible to satisfy everyone, myself being an Ascendancy and Shogun guy did miss quite a few of my favourites but the new album was the one being promoted and some great tunes came of it that it was understandable it was the star of the show. That In Waves intro with everybody sitting down and jumping in the first IN WAVEEEEEESSS was insane. AWESOME !!!!!

We saw Trivium in Berlin, in Kesselhaus in der Kulturbrauerei. Show was amazing. Sound was not great, but it was passable. Venue was terrible. The atmosphere in the place, we got in about half an hour before the show started and it was already unbearably hot. When the actual show started, things got shameful, there was no air conditioning or ventilation whatsoever, it was hot to the point that we were actually surprised nobody passed out.

It was the second time we watched a show in Kesselhaus, and sadly it once again proved to be a very bad choice of a venue. Shame.

Absolutely fantastic live performance! All three bands, Light The Torch, Avatar, and Trivium were awesome. Very unique performance by Trivium with the last minute departure of Matt, but they pulled off a wonderful performance with Howard filling in for some, Avatar filling in some, and the band pulling together to cover the rest. I hope you will all be back through our corner of Canada again, you are all lived and respected! Thanks for a wonderful night and the ringing ears and sore neck today!!!

The show was fantastic! Really know how to get the crowd along. I didn't like the tuning of the instruments though. The drums were way off compared to other instruments and completely overshadowed them. It ruined the high guitar notes and even vocals. It was clear the people of Tivoli were struggling during per-tuning, but they should have accepted the fact that the tuning required some more attention instead of continuing due to time pressure.

Hope someone will pick this up!

Trivium is an awesome band, nothing wrong with that. The thing dislike is the fact that every concert i go to nowadays hits 108DB, so basically they are way too loud. Wouldn't it be great if you didn't have to wear earplugs and that you could actually hear the beauty of the instruments and vocals.

I think you could be the first to promote this. Maybe with a small step to limit it to 100DB.

Thank you for taking the timen to read this.

Great band, this is my second time seeing them live. They always put on a great show and get the audience in touch with their performance. Their sound is great too, they were the clearest most balanced sound band of the night. These guys know how to make themselves sound clear and loud at a show. Other bands tend to be too bass heavy. Great show overall! Hopefully they'll come out with a headliner tour soon, would love to see a longer set.

It was an awesome show. Sound was spot on, the Setlist has no holes. Moshpit was pretty huge for a show in a club.

Audience was very cool. A few oldschoolers. Many young guys around 20-27 years old. A few teens.

Huge recommendation for Trivium Live. These shows are more intense than their festival shows.

Looking forward to the new album.

Great show. I owned the mosh pit. Trivium played a great set and the Roxy sounded great as always. The drinks were a little pricey (13 bucks for a little crown and coke), but that's to be expected. The venue is a little small for a mosh pit, which made the venue feel crowded or over sold if you weren't in the pit.

Trivium Announce Fall 2022 North American Headline Tour

Facebook icon

Grammy-nominated band  TRIVIUM  —  Matt Heafy  [vocals, guitar],  Corey Beaulieu  [guitar],  Paolo Gregoletto [bass], and  Alex Bent [drums] — have announced their Fall 2022 tour plans.

The band will embark on the  Deadmen and Dragons Tour,  a headline run of North America produced by Live Nation, with support from  Between the Buried and Me ,  Whitechapel , and  Khemmis .

Tickets go on sale on Friday, July 22 at 10am local time. Get tickets  HERE .

To herald the news, there is a special live Twitch press conference happening now hosted by  Nik Nocturnal  on  his channel , featuring a guided chat with members from each band.

Trivium are very excited about the tour package they’ve put together for the fans — as they are passionate fans of each of their tourmates!

“Between the Buried and Me are the pioneers of mixing genres well before anyone else had,” says Heafy. “BTBAM back in 2002 — on the impeccable self titled album — showed that they were unapologetically ready to mix elements of death metal, melodic death metal, grindcore, power metal, prog, ethereal — at times beautiful — passages of melody. Their self-titled record was a massive influence on me; I was captivated by the immense mixture of so many styles. Through their combining of a vast range of sonics and soundscapes, they created a sound that is truly their own.”

Beaulieu also exclaims, “We’re excited to have Whitechapel be a part of this amazing bill. It’s been over 10 years since we toured together on the  Shogun  tour and seeing how the band has progressed over the years and added a killer melodic element to their brutal sound just makes it a perfect time to share the stage once again.”

“Khemmis is one of my favorite new bands of the last few years, and when we were putting the tour together, I heavily advocated for having them on the bill,” says Gregoletto. “I think it’s always a testament to a band’s sound when you have trouble pinning a label to it — doom, melodic metal, thrash, death metal. With Khemmis, it’s all in there and rocks hard. They are a 10/10 live band and did a great cover of ‘Rainbow in the Dark,’ so do not miss their set!”

Trivium will also return to the road in September, serving as main support for Iron Maiden. Those dates are  here .

Trivium shared the album’s title track, “In The Court Of The Dragon,” which featured an epic intro composed and orchestrated by Ihsahn (Emperor) and was accompanied by  an official short film music video  directed by Ryan Mackfall. Loudwire called out the song as “a skillful blend of dynamics. And blast beats just sound really, really good beneath Matt Heafy’s soothing clean singing” while  Revolver labeled it “epic.”  Guitar World  christened second single “ Feast Of Fire ” as “pummeling” and “quintessentially Trivium,” as Metal Injection declared it “really, really catchy.” The band also shared the video for “ The  Phalanx ” in partnership with Elder Scrolls.  Kerrang!  called it “huge.” Heafy discussed the genesis of the track with NME. Trivium announce 2022 North American tour

Between the Buried and Me, Whitechapel and Khemmis will serve as the openers on the trek, which is set to begin in early October

Matthew Heafy performs live on stage with Trivium during a concert at the Kesselhaus on June 19, 2019

Matt Heafy's been plenty busy with non-Trivium endeavors lately.

Just this year, he released the debut album from his black-metal side project, Ibaraki , and released new signature gear with Epiphone – in the form of the MKH Les Paul Custom Origins Collection – and KHDK Electronics (the In Waves clean boost pedal ).

Today though, he announced that he'll be hitting the road with his Trivium brothers once again this fall.

Beginning October 2 with a show in Boise, Idaho, the 'Deadmen and Dragons' tour will take the veteran metal outfit across North America, before concluding with a November 10 gig in Los Angeles. Between the Buried and Me, Whitechapel and Khemmis will serve as the openers for the tour's full duration.

"Between the Buried and Me are the pioneers of mixing genres well before anyone else had," Heafy said of his tourmates in a statement. "BTBAM back in 2002 – on the impeccable self titled album – showed that they were unapologetically ready to mix elements of death metal, melodic death metal, grindcore, power metal, prog [and] ethereal – at times beautiful – passages of melody.

"We're excited to have Whitechapel be a part of this amazing bill," added Trivium electric guitar player Corey Beaulieu. "It's been over 10 years since we toured together on the  Shogun  tour and seeing how the band has progressed over the years and added a killer melodic element to their brutal sound just makes it a perfect time to share the stage once again."

Trivium Announce Fall 2022 Tour With Between the Buried and Me

trivium 2019 GETTY LIVE, Gina Wetzler/Redferns

Trivium have announced a big fall headlining trek, dubbed the Deadmen and Dragons Tour, a nod to the titles of their last two albums, 2020's What the Dead Men Say and 2021's In the Court of the Dragon . The headlining North America run, produced by Live Nation, will see prog stalwarts Between the Buried and Me, deathcore pioneers Whitechapel and trad-metal favorites Khemmis playing in support. The opening acts were handpicked by the members of Trivium — see their comments below.

Tickets for the Deadmen and Dragons Tour are set to go on sale on Friday, July 22nd at 10 a.m. local time and will be available via Ticketmaster .

"Between the Buried and Me are the pioneers of mixing genres well before anyone else had," frontman Matt Heafy commented. Bassist Paolo Gregoletto hailed Khemmis, calling them "one of my favorite new bands of the last few years." trivium tour set times

Review & Photography by Manny Manson for MPM

A race into Nottingham started the evening of well. Sat checking ‘X’ for any set times for tonight’s show, I see the first band are on at 18:30, bugger I had previously seen that this was the ‘Doors’ time. I quickly head for the car as its 17:30.

It’s plain sailing to the venue, thankfully, so with minutes to spare, I’m in and set up ready in the pit for the first band on the under card, Swedish Melodic Death Metal band ORBIT CULTURE . I confess to being unfamiliar with these boys, but I’m sure with their Swedish heritage they won’t disappoint.

Formed in 2013, in Eksjö the band line up is Niklas Karlsson on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Richard Hansson on lead guitar, Fredrik Lennartsson on bass and hidden in the corner Christopher Wallerstedt on the kit. With four studio albums and 3 E.P.’s already under their belt, they kick of a smoke-filled set with ‘UNDERWATER MARCH’, a musical theme from Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, by way of an intro.

trivium tour set times

The smoke is thick and lit with a dark blue back light. This gives way to the blistering onslaught of ‘NORTH STAR OF NIJA released on the 2020 album NIJA. It’s a smorgasbord of dropped tuned riffs and growled vocals that slam in to your very soul, hard! The growled vocal gives way to a clean one but not for long as the thundering drums, with spectacular foot work crush.

The crowd are far more aware of the band than I am, I shamefully admit, as those who have come along early doors are fist pumping along to the ridiculous speed of Wallerstedt’s fast feet. The filthy melodic phases are smothered with a Viking growl that befits the mighty Ragnar himself. A thunderous opening to the night that gets a huge reception from the partisan crowd.

trivium tour set times

the title track to the new album, ‘DESCENT’ quickly follows, it’s more of the same percussive slams and growling vocals and guitars that fizz along, riffing a repetitive lick that breaks down into a concussive onslaught that thrusts the air out of your lungs and squeezes the very being out of your soul. The set so far has been one of brutal beauty.

We get the second of four visits to this, the latest album ‘Descent’ with ‘FROM THE INSIDE’. The harsh lighting continues as we get solid reds and blues and then a wall of blinding white light from behind. The theatrical middle 8 allows for a slow worded passage which finishes with a scream worthy of any Harpie.

trivium tour set times

The growl and clean vocals juxtapose comfortably as a piercing guitar lick assaults the senses before dirty riffs and thundering drums round this out. Staying with the same album the kicking continues with ‘ALIENATED’. The fast feet and slammed snare blast beats build this one and before you know it the dark dropped tunning’s sandwich the frayed voice of Karlsson.

He’s doing a great job; I’m loving the feel of this band. The crowd seem to agree as they are bouncing as one. Rock City is sold out and it seems everyone has turned up for early doors, this is great for the undercard, they get to play to a decent crowd.

This has the obvious effect of them playing out of their skins. The crowd are reacting accordingly, each feeding off the other, it’s a great atmosphere. ‘STRANGLER’ from the 2021, 6 song E.P. ‘SHAMEN’ continues with the brutality. Its simple intro riff lays down the carnage ahead, the frayed vocal rips in hard followed by a clean voice.

trivium tour set times

The passages are simple but hard hitting as it plods along like a weary pair of legs trudging into the abyss. A filthy slower passage gives the song an added dynamic. The crowd switch from fist pumping to heads whirling as the guitar soars over the growling filth.

The song dies suddenly and the crowd erupts. There are calls for songs but Karlsson apologises but says it’s a hell of a night, a hell of a crowd and they can’t wait to be back. They finish the set with the brutally honest, explosive ‘VULTURES OF NORTH, again from the new long player.

trivium tour set times

Dark and filthy riffage and stupid fast feet bolster the frayed chants. Heads are down and hair is spinning. The lights are pulsing as the columns of smoke are billowing from either side of the stage. Looking at the balcony, the crowd up there are all nodding like the Churchill dog on a cobbled road. It’s a thundering finish to the set, full of nods to ancient Norse mythology, hard hitting and memorable. I enjoyed that a lot.

As usual it’s all hands-on deck for a quick change over. Before we get to the headliner we have another band, and one I’m pleased to say I’ve seen and enjoyed before. From north of the border and proud of it we have ‘ BLEED FROM WITHIN ’. This is a 5piece formed in Glasgow in 2005. It features Scott Kennedy on Growled, Frayed vocals, Ali Richardson on drums, Dave Provan on bass, who alas is absent as he was when I saw them in June.

On lead guitar is Craig ‘Goonzi’ Gowans and on clean vocals and rhythm guitar is new boy Steven ‘Snev’ Jones. Having been around for a few years it’ll be of no surprise that they six studio albums along with half as many, E.P.’s. The latest album ‘SHRINE’ being released in 2022.

trivium tour set times

The house PA releases the dulcet tones of ‘SKYE’, the 55 second intro to the latest album SHRINE, as the band make their way on stage to huge crowd applause. They waste no time in getting down to business with a set that comprises a brutal collection from the last to albums.

Title track, ‘SHRINE’ kicks of the thundering brutality. Kennedy is instantly on the risers howling at the crowd as he stamps his feet. The concussive kick drum is shattering the peace, confetti falls from the overhead lighting, from a previous party night. ‘Goonzi’ is windmilling his hair as the clean vocal from ‘Snev’ adds a moment of tranquillity only for it to be brutalised with the finesse of an attack of rampant zombies.

trivium tour set times

The dual harmony riffs of ‘SOVEREIGN’ take over as the guitars show their dexterity with some filthy dark playing. The mental feet of Richardson are working like he’s got a good dose of Saint Vitus’s Dance going on behind the kit. ‘LEVITATE’ starts nice and peacefully, but you know damn well it’s all going to go to that dark place, yip on queue Kennedy’s growl hits you square in the jaw.

No excuse me or warning, just whack, like a wet fish across the cheeks. Pitch squeals scream out over the dirty frayed vocal. The clean passages, like I said previously, give the sound a proper ying and yang effect. Gowans scorching solo, again rips a refreshing hole in the dirt and filth of the doomed filled passages.

trivium tour set times

With banter flying back and forth Kennedy isn’t shy in telling the crowd to “shut the f&$k up” when they start jeering at the mention of Scotland. It’s a fun moment that leads into ‘PATHFINDER’ from 2020’s album, FRACTURE. The doom-laden riff has the cockroaches scurrying for cover, as heads are slamming along to the concussive barrage being laid down.

Jones on stage left is smiling as he tears into his nasty riffs, as Kennedy takes to the risers again, and grins at the crowd before dropping down and growling like a possessed demon. ‘KILLING TIME’ follows, a fast and furious number that slams like a runaway dodgem car. The threatening vocal is furious as it screams into your bones. Surfers have been coming over the top steadily now, the security making sure they get on their feet and are away, the odd one stops to check their pockets, a bit late now chaps. The band get a great response when this one stops.

trivium tour set times

Once again Kennedy speaks to the crowd about the metal community being one, he says “he’s fed up with watching crap going down and gigs and calls for everyone to look out for each other”.

‘I AM DAMNATION’ continues the set, it’s the final song from the new album. Screamed vocals start the brutal onslaught of dropped tuned riffs and thundering drums. Hair is spinning as the song builds, Jones and Kennedy fight with the vocal styles before Kennedy takes over and delivers a frayed vocal of immense proportions. He poses on the riser arched back and the lights flashing around him as he screams skyward, all hell has let loose as drums and guitar slam and drone around him.

The final song of the night is from 2020, ‘THE END OF ALL WE KNOW’ is furious as it builds, screaming guitar and fast feet deliver an intro that is sliced apart with the screamed vocal from Kennedy. He’s on form and powering along before he gives the signal and the band stop dead. He’s up on the security barrier, there’s a man down in the pit and he’s spotted it.

trivium tour set times

With a bit of help he’s gotten to his feet and helped from the hall, with no one knowing what has happened, Kennedy shouts out to the carer to go meet them at the Merch stand. having, previously mentioning about looking out for each other he’s shown that he stands behind his preaching’s. Good man.

Sadly, the set is finished. Nowadays with early curfews and the like the band can’t finish the song. The set has been one of sheer musical brutality, fast, thunderous with a great melody and clean vocal, every bit as good as the June show, except we didn’t get Kennedy’s foray into the crowd, to be carried around by the fans.

Another quick turn around and we are set for lift off of the main act tonight, Matt Heafy and the boys of TRIVIUM , back in the UK for the second time this year. I caught them in Birmingham back in January, what a stunning show that was too.

trivium tour set times

Formed last Century, doesn’t that sound a long time ago, in 1999. As an eighth grader, Heafy was invited to try out as lead guitar in a friend’s garage band, it was called ‘TRIVIUM’ (a three-way junction in Latin). After auditioning a Metallica tune, Heafy was in and the band was born. As is usual, members come and go, and with the departure of Lewter in 2000, Heafy took on the vocal duties.

trivium tour set times

The band have been Gregoletto who joined on bass guitar and Beaulieu on guitar since 2004, there have been numerous drummer until Alex Bent joined on in 2016 so he is the, relative, new boy on the block so to speak.

With that sorted the band have produced an impressive 10 studio albums since 2003. The latest being ‘In the Court of The Dragon’ released in the October of 2021. Of which the 1:28 long, ‘X’ is now being played as the band walk on track. The crowd, a capacity one at that, has erupted as the band take to their instruments. In comparison to the O2 in January, when I last photographed them, Rock City is a small intimate venue. It’s as if the band are amongst the crowd. With its lower stage height, half of the height of the O2, it’s a great venue for band connection.

trivium tour set times

Heafy is dressed in the same Japanese dragon emblazoned jacket and another bright pair of sneakers, he’s also let his hair grow since the year start UK tour. His striking looks beam out across the stage, as, he hangs his black signature 7 string Epiphone Les Paul guitar in place, The band waste no time in getting down to business with the rip snorting opener, ‘IN THE COURT OF THE DRAGON’ the title track from the 2021 long payer.

This is an abusive song that lets you know that the band are on it and enjoying life. The red eyes on the dragons at either side of the stage glare at the crowd as Heafy patrols the stage, his vocals abusive and destructive as he does so. He pulls the shapes as he stands, his tongue hanging down to his chin as he does so in a Gene Simmons sort of stance, btw I’d say it would give Gene’s a good licking! A trade mark look that he proceeds to perform at every opportunity through-out the night.

trivium tour set times

In fact, a friend from Record Collector Magazine, Emmie, remarked that the tour should have been called the ‘Lizards and Wizards’ tour due to it. The ‘Goblins and Wizards’ title has raised an eyebrow from the band, Heafy mentions it with a shrug and a WTF sort of gesture.

With a quick greeting we get the first of several tracks from 2008’s banging album ‘Shogun’, this first track is ‘DOWN FROM THE SKY’ and comes across with the subtly of the pending nuclear holocaust that it was written about.

The search for new ideas for the band led them to change producers, this was the first with Nick Raskulinecz. Heafy’s screaming vocals are more dominant than on the previous album ‘The Crusade’. This thundering track smashes along with the power of an H bomb. The screaming guitars work well against the frayed Heafy vocal. The melodic phases bring a calm before the storm.

trivium tour set times

A great addition to the set. Talking of The Crusade the next track is from that album, ‘BECOMING THE DRAGON’ about Japanese mythological tale of Koi being transformed into dragons after swimming up the Dragons Gate waterfall. With its Metallica style it’s a thumper of a track full of fast feet and dirty riffs. The cleaner vocal the direct opposite to what we’ve heard so far and what Trivium have become better known for.

The barrage continues with one of the better-known songs from 2013’s ‘VENGENCE FALLS’. The thunderous feet smash into your chest as ‘STRIFE’ kicks ass. The solid bass rumbles across the venue as Heafy belts out this great tune.

trivium tour set times

The soaring lead breaks from Corey Beaulieu scream across the faces of those on the front line, a quality tune that received critical acclaim from some but proved controversial amongst the hardened fans with its heavy rock orientated grooves. Normality is resumed with the pummelling of ‘PULL HARDER ON THE STRINGS OF YOUR MARTYR’ from 2005’s ASCENDANCY, the sophomore album. This was the first album to feature current guitarist Beaulieu and bass player Paolo Gregoletto. Kerrang awarded it album of the year in 2005.

A jump back to ‘SHOGUN’ and its Japanese, Greek Mythology influences. With it, Heafy howls out the opening to ‘KIRISUTE GOMEN’ It’s a brutal six and a half minutes of time changes and melodic/frayed filthy gut-wrenching nastiness. The fast fingers are put to work as the guitars pull and push the song along.

trivium tour set times

The even present brutality from Alex Bent is punishing in both speed and ferocity. We continue with Greek mythology theme with ‘TORN BETWEEN SCYLLA AND CHARYBDIS’ a scorching tale of choosing between a 6 headed monster or a giant whirlpool. The concussive barrage, the light and shade depict the turmoil of having to choose your ultimate demise.

There is again, Metallica influences, only better, the frayed vocal takes the band to a level, that IMHO, Metallica haven’t attained since before the black album. I know that’s a can of worms but I believe the Cliff Burton era to be amongst their best.

trivium tour set times

Back to Heafy and his face pulling and tongue lashings. The crowd are on their toes, as they sail over the barrier, the security picking out the surfers and make sure they land intact. Heafy’s eyes are darting around as he watch’s no doubt proud of what he and the band are delivering. I would be, it’s fantastic.

The heat in the hall has risen exponentially as the set proceeds, hot sweaty metal heads are slamming their heads around as 2020’s ‘CATASTOPHE’ crushes all in the line of fire. Dealing with crisis that humanity brings on itself it is befitting with what’s happening in the world at the moment, with it seemingly only minutes away from a melt-down.

trivium tour set times

Heafy’s song writing is as ever on point. The bands musical interpretation of each of the songs themes is masterful. The band are solid, tight and killing it.

Looking at the recent set lists we get one of two changes that have been present so far on the tour. Tonight, is the third night, Cambridge and Norwich being the previous nights. ‘LIKE CALLISTO TO A STAR IN HEAVEN’ a rape themed song steeped in Greek Mythology means it another from SHOGUN. For those unawares, Callisto, a nymph, is raped by Zeus and eventually ends up as the Big Dipper, The Plough or Ursa Major in the night sky.

The brutal onslaught from the stage has the crowd’s heads bobbing once again, Churchill the dog would be proud of them. A jump to 2006 and the third album, CRUSADE. It follows with the tale of Andrea Yates and the murder of her five children, entitled ‘ENTERANCE OF THE CONFLAGATION’. The vocal is almost Poulsen and Volbeat- esque as it slams out, it’s an album that turned its back on the screamed vocals in a majority of its listings, but which returns for the future long player releases.

trivium tour set times

Another return to SHOGUN hits us next and the second change from the previous night’s setlist, ‘OF PROMETHEUS AND THE CRUCIFIX’, the god of fire and his gift of fire to humanity. Its full of soaring melodies and clean vocals, Heafy’s delivery is ‘fire’ as the band thunders around that voice, soaring, nasty riffs bring the frayed vocal out.

Beaulieu rips a scorching run as Heafy pouts, Gregoletto is standing at his five-string bass, rumbling out a tsunami of lows that are trouser rippling in fierceness. His weapon of choice looks huge against his diminutive figure, he’s clad, in a denim cut, emblazoned with a great selection of patches. His bass is secure in a stand, making his movements a bit restrictive.

It doesn’t stop Heafy squeezing between him and the dragon on stage left as he tries to repeatedly lick the bar over to the left. My god that tongue is tasting the air constantly, like a serpent searching out its next victim. The clean vocal of 2017’s ‘THE HEART FROM YOUR HATE’ brings the fury down to calmer level, this was released as the second single from the album THE SIN AND SENTENCE. Its more melodic theme and lyrical content helped cement the band as one of the best in modern metal according to Metal Hammer.

trivium tour set times

Bedlam ensues with the time changes of ‘A GUNSHOT TO THE HEAD OF TREPIDATION’ released back in 2005. The guitar harmonies sizzle as the footwork from Bent’s kick drums smash into your senses. The crowd join in with the repeated ‘Hey’ ‘Hey’s’ as the song slams out to a triumphant finish.

No TRIVIUM show is complete without ‘IN WAVES’ and tonight’s no exception, ‘CAPSIZING THE SEA’ is played over the house PA as the band take a moment before hitting it hard with the final track of the night. The dark, brooding and claustrophobic atmosphere is built before Heafy screams his lungs out with this hard-hitting song about suicide and battling with the damage it leaves to those left behind.

trivium tour set times

The not wanting to pull everybody down adds to the turmoil that is already being dealt with, or not. The screams and musical passages deliver the confusion and helplessness being felt. The crowd are on fire to this concussive battering. Churchill is in the room once more, as the heads are nodding with a fury that matches the confused furiosity being delivered in spades. The quieter passages allow for time to process what’s happening before your hit hard with the run for the hills and the held last notes of the song and night.

TRIVIUM have delivered yet another clever solid set of stunning content. They are a band that never disappoint, their level of musicianship, song writing and the themes of said songs are relatable and ultimately believable. The growls, screams call them what you will, never reach the point of being too much. Their placement in the songs seem well thought out and fit with the lyrical atmosphere of each one. Heafy is a talent to behold, and that tongue!! Hello girls!

Catch them on the tour, its stunning but be warned Rock City was sold out and for good reason, TRIVIUM are the real deal!

Trivium announce 13-date intimate UK tour

Trivium have unveiled their upcoming Goblins And Wizards tour – which they promise to be the “best metal show to hit your town this summer”.

Trivium announce 13-date intimate UK tour

It’s shaping up to be a ridiculously busy year for Trivium ! Fresh from their incredible UK headline tour last month, not to mention recently announcing a massive co-headline run with Beartooth in the U.S. , the band have just confirmed even more shows coming up.

The metal heroes will be crossing the pond once again for what they’re calling the Goblins And Wizards Tour: 13 intimate UK shows at some lesser-visited spots, with Bleed From Within and Orbit Culture as support.

“Since the first UK headline tour in 2005 we’d made it a point to do our best to get out of the big cities and play other ones that might get overlooked or skipped,” says bassist Paolo Gregoletto. “We looked at old Maiden and Motörhead posters and let that inspire the way we routed this one.

“Bleed From Within and Orbit Culture are two of our favourite new bands and we are honoured to have them join us. This is going to be the biggest and best metal show to hit your town this summer guaranteed!”

We don’t doubt it. Tickets go on sale this Wednesday, February 15, at 10am.

The Goblins And Wizards tour dates look like this:

23 Cambridge Corn Exchange 24 Norwich UEA 25 Nottingham Rock City 26 Oxford O2 Academy 28 Stoke Victoria Hall 29 Liverpool O2 Academy 30 Sheffield O2 Academy 31 Newcastle NX

Tee times have been announced for the opening two rounds of the 88th Masters Tournament, which begins Thursday at Augusta National Golf Club.

Tiger Woods is scheduled to tee off at 1:24 p.m. ET on Thursday alongside Jason Day and Max Homa . Woods is making his 26th Masters start. It is his second PGA TOUR start of the season. He withdrew during the second round of The Genesis Invitational in February. The five-time Masters champion can set the tournament’s consecutive cuts made record this week. Woods currently holds the record at 23 consecutive cuts with Gary Player and Fred Couples.

Scottie Scheffler is attempting to win his second green jacket in three years. The world No. 1 has won two of his last three PGA TOUR starts, including THE PLAYERS Championship. Scheffler will tee off at 10:42 a.m. ET Thursday, 1:48 p.m. Friday, with Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele . McIlroy is making his 16th appearance at the Masters. It will be his 10th attempt at completing the career grand slam.

Other notable groups include …

  • Patrick Cantlay, Min Woo Lee, Rickie Fowler (10:06 a.m./1:12 p.m.): It’s an interesting group of players, each searching for their first major championship, but in different stages of their career. Lee is the new face, the up-and-comer hoping to capture a breakthrough victory. Cantlay is undoubtedly in the prime of his career, looking for a major to cement his legacy. Fowler returns to the Masters for the first time in four years and hopes to turn back the clock.
  • Hideki Matsuyama, Will Zalatoris, Justin Thomas (10:18 a.m./1:24 p.m.): A trio of sweet-swing premium ball-strikers at Augusta National? Sign us up. Matsuyama and Zalatoris have found their form in 2024 after struggling with injuries a year ago. Thomas is working his way back from poor form in 2023, too. The redemption arc is strong in this group.
  • Jon Rahm, Matt Fitzpatrick, Nick Dunlap (10:30 a.m./1:36 pm.): The defending champion Rahm will line up alongside U.S. Open winner Fitzpatrick and star rookie Dunlap.
  • Wyndham Clark, Viktor Hovland, Cameron Smith (10:54 a.m./2:00 p.m.): Clark, the reigning U.S. Open champion, is making his Masters debut and he will do so with a marquee group. Hovland finished tied for seventh at the Masters last year, a career-best. Smith has three top 10s in his last four appearances
  • Jordan Spieth, Ludvig Åberg, Sahith Theegala (1:48 a.m/10:42 a.m.): Three top-20 players with a legitimate chance to win the green jacket. Jordan Spieth was the young phenom when he made his Masters debut a decade ago. Now he’s paired with two blooming stars on the PGA TOUR.

"We’ve never done a proper, real tour together. Which is nuts, because we’ve toured with everyone!": How Trivium and Bullet For My Valentine have teamed up for 2025's biggest metal event

In 2005, two rising stars of metal's next generation released landmark albums. Next year, they'll tour together for the first time to celebrate them

Matt Tuck X Matt Heafy

It’s the collab we already knew we needed. By the time you read this, the news of Trivium and Bullet For My Valentine ’s 2025 co-headline arena tour will have well and truly broken. And the not-so-small print? Not only is it the first time the two bands have ever toured together, but they’ll celebrate the 20th anniversary of their 2005 breakthrough, era-defining albums, Ascendancy (released March 15, 2005) and The Poison (released October 3, 2005), by playing them in full. Two words: Get. In.

What better excuse could there be to get Matt Heafy and Matt Tuck, the frontmen of two of modern metal’s most successful bands, together to chat about the similar paths they’ve blazed through our scene, their memories, and their plans for what promises to be a metal event for the ages.

Metal Hammer line break

When did you first hear each other’s bands?

Matt Heafy: “We were in the UK on our second or first tour. I was blown away by Bullet. It was really cool to hear another band that was coming out around the same time, that was taking the ingredients that we were influenced by as well, but cooking them in a different way.”

Matt Tuck: “It was early 2005 and we had just finished recording The Poison . It was all the sounds, aggression, speed and technicality of a band that I wanted to hear and what Bullet wanted to be like. As soon as I heard of you boys, I was a fan. I repped you as much as I could in press photos, talked about you any time I was asked, ‘Who are you listening to at the moment?’”

Do you remember the first time you met in person?

Tuck: “It was behind the second stage at [German rock festival] Rock Am Ring.”

Heafy: “Oh, that’s right!”

Tuck: “I saw you and Corey [Beaulieu, Trivium guitarist] come walking in the bus area and you were like, ‘Hey, man, just want to thank you for picking up our band in the press’, and likewise. I still remember that interaction to this day, over 20 years later.”

You both broke through in 2005, a period when metal was in transition. Nu metal had bitten the dust and bands like Killswitch Engage and Lamb Of God were leading a metal renaissance. What are your memories of the scene at that time?

Tuck: “It was undeniably a period of time where both our bands started something that was important. We were breaking away from a trend and a mould, bringing back a certain style and aggression, a technicality. We were representing Britain, and Trivium were representing the US.”

Heafy: “It was an interesting time. Guitar solos were gone when I was in high school, and nu metal was in. Growing up in central Florida, pop-punk was the only style that was really around.”

Tuck: “It was an amazing time for both our bands. That whole period where it was young, fresh and new, people were discovering us, and we were trying to stamp our sound into the metal community. I can’t emphasise how much we enjoyed it and how hungry we were.”

Heafy: “The New Wave Of American Heavy Metal scene was growing with bands like Lamb Of God, Shadows Fall, Unearth and Killswitch Engage all coming out of roughly the same area, at the same time. But it was always Bullet and Trivium floating. And that’s why I always felt this kinship.”

So, there was never any kind of rivalry between your bands?

Tuck: “No!”

Heafy: “We’ve always just lived on these two separate planets. Acknowledging each other and being fans of each other’s music, but never connecting the dots. We could have done this tour at 10 years, could have done it at 15, could have done it at five. We’ve been asking each other, ‘Why haven’t we toured together?’ And there wasn’t a reason, we just didn’t.”

It is strange that you haven’t toured together until now…

Heafy: “We’ve done festivals, but we’ve never done a proper, real tour together. Which is nuts, because we’ve toured with everyone.”

Do you remember the moment you both knew you’d made it?

Tuck: “Selling out Brixton Academy on your first album is a pretty cool achievement. And at that point as well, Tears Don’t Fall wasn’t even a single. And from that moment, it just didn’t stop. It went from Brixton to Hammersmith, Hammersmith to Alexandra Palace, Alexandra Palace to Wembley, and it just kept going. What a wild ride.”

Heafy: “Before we toured the UK, no one liked us. We were an opening band, playing first of four, selling one t-shirt, one CD a night. We had just finished a US run, flew over to the UK, and we’re at Wulfrun Hall [in Wolverhampton]. We hear this sound. We peek behind the curtain. It’s a Trivium chant in the crowd and it’s a sold-out show. We go out there, they knew every single word.

Then [Download Festival organiser] Andy Copping saw us at the Garage show in London and he said, ‘Let’s bump you up from the tent stage to the main stage for Download 2005.’”

Matt, did you watch Trivium’s now-infamous 2005 Download set? (Bullet For My Valentine played the second stage that year, sandwiched between Lamb Of God and Meshuggah.)

Tuck: “No, unfortunately we didn’t get on site in time, and it had already happened. But I remember the entire festival backstage talking about this Trivium set and it was like, ‘Oh shit, the hype machine is real.’”

How did you deal with the increased attention following the release of your albums?

Heafy: “It was tough for me. People were like, ‘Oh Matt’s kind of a jerk because he doesn’t want to be around people.’ But I had terrible acne and social anxiety disorder, so I didn’t want to be in pictures, didn’t want to meet people. But that was immersion therapy. I had to just get in it, had to do it, and eventually got over it.”

Tuck: “I don’t think it’s ever something I struggled with. It’s something I’d wanted since I was 14 years old, so I was in a really happy place. I didn’t go over the top with my ego or anything, I was always very confident, but I remember feeling validated that I’d worked so hard. I knew I was capable of something special.”

Heafy: “I wish I’d sat back and just smelled the roses for a minute. It’s not that I was grumpy, it’s just that it was happening so quick, we had to put our heads down and work. I see that sometimes nowadays for bands, and I hope that they’re relishing it. But it’s hard to do when you’re in the moment.”

Tuck: “We were guilty of the same thing. We weren’t enjoying it or taking it in, we were just doing it and living it.”

What were the challenges back then?

Heafy: “I would never change the downs, because the downs are what made us strong and what made us realise who we are. The Ascendancy period was where we were praised. Then The Crusade [the band’s poorly received second album, released in 2006] was kind of tough, but then we built and wrote out of that.”

Tuck: “You go from playing once a week in a rehearsal room with your friends, to touring the world and playing huge festivals in the blink of an eye. It’s a steep learning curve. As enjoyable as it all was, there were times where I was in a very dark, low place because I felt like things were being taken away from me by my own misdoings with my voice, drinking and smoking and all that stuff you do when you’re young and stupid. I don’t miss the naivety and the inexperience, but would never change it for the world.”

Matt, last November, you joined Bullet onstage in Orlando to perform Tears Don’t Fall. What was that experience like?

Heafy: “I had a blast. I was like, ‘I’m going to let it all rip. I don’t have a show tomorrow. I’m going to blow my voice out.’ I was sweating so bad after just one song…”

Tuck: “…You do sweat, man. I remember, ‘God damn, you’ve done, like, four minutes here!’”

Heafy: “I gave it my absolute all, man. You should see me in jiu-jitsu. Sometimes my sweat is going in my partner’s mouth, their nose. I think I’m just very well hydrated.”

How did the idea come about for the joint 20-year anniversary tour and playing both albums in full?

Tuck: “It was around October last year. Me and the boys wanted to do something for The Poison and it just clicked. Let’s see if Trivium want to jump onboard here and do something together, split everything down the middle, no bullshit, co-headline, Ascendancy and The Poison .”

Heafy: “I remember we had a text from our manager. He’s like, ‘Hey, the Bullet camp just put over the idea of Trivium and Bullet doing a tour together in 2025…”

Tuck: “I think a Bullet and Trivium tour is something that most fans of that era would want to see. It’s taken us 20 years to get there, but instead of just a normal tour, we’re bringing something special. I think people are going to flip when they find out what’s going on.”

Can you tell us anything about what you have planned?

Heafy: “We’ve been creating all sorts of assets. Cool, creative stuff. Matt came down to The Hangar [Trivium’s Florida HQ] and maybe next month, we’re going to go visit them. We’re going to make this the event that it needs to be. I want to see the show. I don’t want to have to play it. I want to watch both sets from both bands because it’s going to be something momentous.”

Tuck: “I can’t see anyone that was part of the metal scene in 2005 that won’t want to come to this and celebrate and enjoy the evening with us. It’s going to be a have-to-be-there kind of event, because it’s only going to happen one time.”

Heafy: “I mentioned the tour to [Malevolence guitarist] Josh Baines, and he’s like, ‘That’s my childhood.’ You see how thriving and how strong and healthy the UK scene is right now, how many amazing bands are coming out. You talk to them and the first bands they saw live were Bullet and Trivium.”

Trivium x Bullet For My Valentine

Bullet played The Poison in full in 2016 for the album’s 10th anniversary, but have Trivium ever played Ascendancy in full?

Heafy: “We’ve never done it on a show. We’ve never done it on a tour. It’s going to be something special. I think that people are going to lose their minds. I know I am!”

Would you ever record a song together?

Heafy: “Yes, absolutely.”

Is it in the pipeline?

Heafy: “Ha ha ha! I can’t confirm or not.”

Tuck: “It’s something we’ve discussed. It would seem like a missed opportunity if we didn’t do something together, especially for this tour. I would assume it’s going to happen. We haven’t started working on anything yet. Matt’s being shy and coy, but I’ll just say how it is.”

What do you think the legacy of Ascendancy and The Poison is?

Heafy: “It’s very cool to see the blueprint that was laid by our two bands; singing, screaming, guitar solos, great rhythm playing. Also, young fans wanted to dress like us and make music like us and cover our songs.”

Tuck: “I hope we continue to inspire young musicians and bands to pick up these instruments, be creative, have fun, enjoy themselves. I think I could speak for Matt when we say both albums shaped a huge part of our musical culture and everyone that listened to them at the time.”

Heafy: “After this tour, I assume festivals will be calling both our bands begging for these full album plays and then maybe at the 25-year, 30-year mark, let’s do some gigantic stuff. It’s got me set for the future, but I’m going to have a note in front of my face on my bunk every day: enjoy this, relish this, and just sit back and celebrate.”

2024 Masters odds, picks, golf predictions: Tiger Woods projection from same model that hit last two winners

Tiger woods, an 82-time pga tour champion, is expected to be part of the 2024 masters field at augusta national golf club.

tiger-woods-usatsi.jpg

The top golfers in the world will gather at the iconic Augusta National Golf Club when the 2024 Masters begins on Thursday. Five-time Masters winner Tiger Woods will try to play four rounds for the first time this season after having to withdraw in the second round of the Genesis Invitational in February. Woods made the cut at last year's Masters, but he withdrew during the third round and later underwent ankle surgery that held him out for the remainder of the 2023 PGA Tour season. He is a 100-1 longshot in the 2024 Masters odds, while Scottie Scheffler is the 13-4 favorite on the PGA odds board.

Scheffler, who won this event in 2022, finished 10th as a co-favorite last year. Rory McIlroy follows Scheffler at 10-1, and defending champion Jon Rahm is among the top 2024 Masters contenders at 12-1. Before locking in your 2024 Masters picks or Tiger Woods props, be sure to see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine .

SportsLine's proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, the model is up nearly $9,500 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

McClure's model predicted Scottie Scheffler would finish on top of the leaderboard at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship this season. McClure also included Hideki Matsuyama in his best bets to win the 2024 Genesis Invitational. That bet hit at +9000, and for the entire tournament, McClure's best bets returned nearly $1,000.

The model also predicted Jon Rahm would be victorious at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. At the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm's second career major victory heading into the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scheffler winning in 2022.

In addition, McClure's best bets included Nick Taylor (70-1) winning the 2023 RBC Canadian Open, Jason Day (17-1) winning outright at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson, and Rickie Fowler (14-1) finishing on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic.

This same model has also nailed a whopping 10 majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now that the Masters 2024 field is set, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.

Top 2024 Masters predictions

One major surprise the model is calling for at the 2024 Masters: Xander Schauffele, a 28-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. He's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. The 30-year-old is making his seventh appearance at Augusta National after recording top-10 finishes in three of the past five years.

Schauffele's runner-up finish in 2019 was overshadowed by Tiger Woods' victory, and he finished third during Hideki Matsuyama's win in 2021. He is off to a strong start this year, finishing second in the Players Championship last month to go along with four other top-10 finishes worldwide. The 2021 Olympic gold medalist has not won a major championship, but his six top-five finishes in those events suggests that he could end his major tournament drought this week.

The model has also examined where Tiger Woods finishes. Jack Nicklaus is still the oldest golfer to win the Masters, posting a historic win at age 46 in 1986. Woods, who is currently 48 years old, could break that record while tying Nicklaus for the most Masters victories of all-time (six) this week.

He made the cut at Augusta National for the 23rd consecutive time last year before having to withdraw after seven holes in the third round. Woods has struggled to complete four rounds in PGA Tour events in recent years, and this is one of the most difficult courses to walk in the country. However, the five-time Masters champion can never be counted out, especially after his surprising win in 2019.  The model just locked in its Tiger Woods Masters picks here .

How to make 2024 Masters picks

The model is also targeting six golfers with Masters odds of 20-1 or longer to make a strong run at the title. Anyone who backs these longshots could hit it big. You can only see the model's PGA picks here .

Who will win the 2024 Masters, which longshots will stun the golfing world, and where will Tiger Woods finish? Check out the Masters 2024 odds below, then visit SportsLine to see the projected Masters leaderboard, all from the model that's nailed 10 golf majors, including the last two Masters winners .

Morgan Wallen Kicks Off His One Night at a Time 2024 World Tour in Indianapolis

The country star is set to tour across North American from now until the end of the summer with a handful of special guests

"Last Night" was one to remember for Morgan Wallen !

On Thursday, April 4, the country music star, 30, kicked off the 2024 leg of his massive One Night at a Time World Tour with a concert at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.

To kick things off, Wallen made a grand entrance alongside sports analyst and former Indianapolis Colts player Pat McAfee, and Indiana Pacers point guard Tyrese Haliburton.

The singer-songwriter, who was dressed in all black and at one point donned an Indiana State University jersey, played 25 songs over the course of the night, including old hits like "Whiskey Glasses," "Chasin' You" and "Up Down," plus newer hits like "Last Night" and "One Thing at a Time."

Bailey Zimmerman, who opened for the star alongside Nate Smith and Lauren Watkins, even joined Wallen for "I Deserve a Drink," off his latest album One Thing at a Time .

After Wallen plays an additional One Night at a Time World Tour show in Indianapolis, he'll play in Oxford, Mississippi later in April and then head to California for a headlining performance at Stagecoach music festival at the end of the month.

In early May, the hitmaker's stadium tour resumes with three shows in Nashville, and then he'll continue performing in cities across North America for the remainder of the spring and much of the summer. The run of live shows will wrap up on Aug. 9 in Las Vegas, and along the way the "Cowgirls" singer will make stops in major markets like Philadelphia, the greater New York City area, Denver and more.

Wallen is making his live dates extra special this year by bringing along an A-list cast of rotating openers. Each show is set to include three guests, including Bryan Martin , Ella Langley , Jelly Roll,   Jon Pardi , Lainey Wilson , in addition to Smith, Watkins and Zimmerman.

2024 marks the second year of the One Night at a Time tour, named for his smash hit third studio album One Thing at a Time , which dropped in March 2023. The "Wasted on You" singer was out on the road for much of 2023, headlining shows from shortly after the album's release through the end of the year.

Amid last year's North American leg in May, Wallen had to postpone a number of dates due to vocal fold trauma , or "excessive and improper use of the voice," according to the National Institute of Health.

Biden Tells Baltimore: ‘Your Nation Has Your Back’

President Biden took an aerial tour of the site of the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge and met with the families of the six victims. The authorities later announced the recovery of a third body.

President Biden told the people of Baltimore on Friday that “your nation has your back” as he stood in front of the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge, which was destroyed after a cargo ship plowed through it last week, killing six people.

Mr. Biden encountered a tangle more than a mile long of concrete and steel that has snarled traffic , devastated blue-collar communities and disrupted operations at one of America’s biggest ports, threatening chaos that could ripple across supply chains.

Mr. Biden took an aerial tour of the damage and received a briefing from officials overseeing the cleanup and rebuilding efforts, before meeting privately with families of six construction workers who plunged into the Patapsco River when the bridge collapsed.

“We’re going to keep working hard to recover each of them,” Mr. Biden said.

Hours after Mr. Biden departed, the local authorities announced the recovery of the body of a construction worker, the third to be found. They identified the man as 38-year-old Maynor Yasir Suazo Sandoval.

In his remarks, Mr. Biden described how the workers had been on a break from filling potholes right before disaster struck. Just seconds before, Mr. Biden said, one of the men, a 24-year-old, sent a message to his girlfriend that said, “We just poured cement, and we’re waiting for it to dry.”

Mr. Biden spoke of the pain of loss of loved ones, adding that “we’ll also never forget the contributions these men made to this city.”

In the week since the collapse, the administration has funded the harbor cleanup, unlocked $60 million in emergency funding to help rebuild the bridge, provided low-interest disaster loans to affected businesses and overseen efforts to manage any supply chain disruptions.

On Friday, Mr. Biden called on companies to commit to keeping employees — about 20,000 people depend on the port for jobs — on their payrolls as the port reopens. This week, senior administration officials, including Mr. Biden’s chief of staff, called major employers in the Baltimore area, including retail chains such as Home Depot and distributors like Amazon, to encourage them to retain workers.

“We’re going to move heaven and earth to rebuild this bridge as rapidly as humanly possible,” Mr. Biden said. He called on Congress to help fulfill his promise that the federal government pay to rebuild the bridge.

As he spoke, the bridge’s steel girders remained partially submerged in water, reaching skyward like arms from a grave. The giant cargo vessel was still carrying dozens of colorful containers, and pieces of the broken bridge were lying across the ship’s bow.

Local and federal officials said the road to recovery would be long.

“As you can see behind me, the physical impact of this tragedy is massive,” said Mayor Brandon Scott of Baltimore. “But let’s be clear, the human impact is immeasurable.”

At a briefing on response efforts, Brig. Gen. John P. Lloyd from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers described a “mangled mess” that was being tackled by 51 divers and 12 cranes. He told the president that one pending task was to remove a large section of the bridge sitting on the ship. The section weighs 5,000 tons and is 125 feet high.

The bridge crumbled in the dead of night when a 985-foot-long cargo vessel crashed into it shortly after departing the Port of Baltimore, a vital economic engine that handles more cars and farm equipment than any other port in the country. The vessel, the Dali, lost power before it hit the bridge but sent a mayday call that gave officials enough time to halt bridge traffic.

But it was not enough time to get to workers who were already on the bridge.

The bodies of two of the workers were recovered from the river on March 27. Recovery efforts for the remaining workers, who were presumed dead, later stalled. The authorities said the bodies were most likely encased in steel and concrete.

Mr. Biden spoke affectionately of his own ties to the port of Baltimore, including his family who worked as watermen in the 1850s and his many years commuting from Delaware.

The structure, which took five years to build, opened in 1977 and served as a critical transportation link on the East Coast. It was named after Francis Scott Key, the Maryland-born author of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

Mr. Biden’s response drew praise from Gov. Wes Moore, who said he received the first call from the White House at around 3 a.m., just 90 minutes after the collision.

“And every hour since we’ve worked hand in hand with this administration,” Mr. Moore said. “President Biden might not be a Marylander by birth. But I tell you, he’s proven what it means to be Maryland tough, and Baltimore strong.”

Scott Cowan, the president of the local chapter of the International Longshoremen’s Association, said he was encouraged by Mr. Biden’s visit but believed there was more to be done.

As the weeks go by, Mr. Cowan said, the situation for the 2,400 members of his local was getting more difficult. Around 400 people in the local were working at the moment, he said, with around 2,000 idled, roughly the inverse of the normal ratio.

If it had been a gradual work slowdown, people could have adjusted, he said, but “it was like hitting a wall” when the bridge collapsed and all but shut down the port.

“President Biden does know about ports,” Mr. Cowan said. “I think he wants to do so something. But obviously there’s Congress involved too.”
