Australia concerts in 2024: here’s a list of shows and tours coming up

Big names confirmed for tours Down Under in 2024 include Coldplay, Pink, SZA, Hozier, Iron Maiden and more

Fresh out of a pandemic, Australia’s 2023 touring calendar was one of the busiest in recent memory, as artists of all stripes took centrestage everywhere from stadium shows to intimate local gigs. With a starry schedule that included the likes of Post Malone , Red Hot Chili Peppers , and Mötley Crüe , it’ll be tricky for 2024’s schedule to outdo its predecessor – and yet, thanks to the likes of Taylor Swift , Blink-182 and Pink , plus Coldplay, Pearl Jam and SZA later in the year, it’s poised to do just that.

From debut headline shows for breakout artists to bustling festival sideshow programs, there’s something for everyone to enjoy as a stellar batch of musicians make their way Down Under in 2024. Read on for NME’s roundup of all the biggest concerts and tours coming to Australia this year.

Australia bloody loves Pink , and she’s apparently pretty fond of her “home away from home” too. In 2009, she played 58 shows here as part of her Funhouse tour, performing for some 660,000 fans. In 2013, when she announced an Australian tour in support of sixth studio album ‘The Truth About Love’, 320,000 tickets were snapped up within a few hours of them going on sale.

It makes sense, then, that the American singer-songwriter has a slew of dates booked for her return in February and March 2024 as part of her Summer Carnival world tour . She’ll be bringing songs from her ninth studio album ‘Trustfall’ to stadiums around the country, including stops in Sydney, Newcastle, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.

She’ll be playing a total of four shows at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium and conclude the tour at Townsville’s Queensland Country Bank stadium.

Lydia Lunch’s unique artistry will take centre stage during her six-date Australian tour early 2024. The musician and poet will first perform at the Brisbane Powerhouse on March 8, before taking to Melbourne Recital Theatre (March 15), Theatre Royal Castlemaine (March 17), Sydney’s The Great Club (March 22) and MONA in Hobart (March 23).

Lunch will also find time for a one-off with Melbourne band Black Cab, performing the songs of her fellow NYC pioneers Suicide , in the intimate confines of The Tote on March 20. Find tickets for the special tribute here.

Emo, punk and post-hardcore fans will find a lot to like in the inaugural touring festival New Bloom in March. In addition to festival dates on the east coast, most of the bands are doing sideshows across the country. Catch Citizen , Movements , Touche Amore , Fleshwater and No Pressure in various venues in Perth, Adelaide, Wollongong, Belgrave and the Gold Coast. Movements, Touche Amore, Fleshwater and No Pressure will stick around for bonus headline shows in Melbourne while the latter two will also play again in Sydney.

Rising UK pop sensation Dylan makes her Australian debut in March, kicking off her three-date tour at The Brightside in Brisbane on March 18. The Rebel Child Tour, named after Dylan’s 2023 single, will then head to The Lansdowne in Sydney on March 22, before wrapping up in Melbourne at Northcote Social Club on March 25. Find tickets here.

Maisie Peters: The Good Witch Comes to Australia When: March 19 – 23 Find more info

Maisie Peters might have taken the Wizard of Oz references on her new album ‘The Good Witch’ a little too seriously. The UK artist is coming back to Australia for three dates in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne – all of which are sold out.

Expectations will be high for Peters’ tour and not necessarily because of the music. As she tweeted : “Last time I toured here I did a shoey on stage and became an honorary Australian so who knows what will happen next!!”

Gladys Knight: The Farewell Tour When: March 19 – March 30 Find tickets and more info here

Soul legend Gladys Knight will return Down Under after touring the US, bringing her numerous hits with her. She’ll kick off the seven-stop tour in Perth, head to Adelaide, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Melbourne and Canberra, and wrap things up in Sydney before crossing the Tasman to New Zealand.

The Damned ’s ‘70s output is somehow a rosetta stone for punk rock and goth. The London band is reuniting the “classic” lineup that influenced a generation for the first and final time since 1989 for shows in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth in March 2024.

Come on Barbie, let’s go party! Aqua are coming to Australia to headline the touring Mixtape Festival Volume 1, accompanied by 2 Unlimited, East 17, Phats & Small, Big Brovaz, Booty Luv, and Urban Cookie Collective. The ’90s will be alive on this five-date tour of Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth.

Joker Xue: Extraterrestrial World Tour When: March 23 – March 26 Find tickets and more info here

If you’re not familiar with Mandopop, Joker Xue is one hell of an introduction. The songwriter is bringing his ‘Extraterrestrial’ world tour to arenas in Melbourne and Sydney in March 2024. In the show’s pantomime, Xue transforms into an “interstellar executive who descends from an alien planet and is ordered to destroy the earth”, before deciding humans aren’t so bad after all.

K-pop girl group Itzy have a short and sweet trip of Australia planned – they’ve plotted two arena dates down under as part of their Born To Be world tour . The JYP Entertainment act will take over the ICC Sydney Arena and then Melbourne’s Margaret Court Arena this March.

Melding Southern rap with 21st century nihilism and heavy metal, New Orleans’ $uicideboy$ are an unlikely success story. The prolific duo will perform a series of arena shows along the east coast in 2024, checking in at Brisbane’s Entertainment Centre (March 25, 26) and Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena (March 28, 29) before finishing up the Grey Day tour at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena on March 30. Ghostemane, Pouya, Germ, and Shakewell are guests that have been confirmed.

The English folk singer is headed to Australia as part of the Byron Bay Bluesfest line-up, and has lined up headline shows in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Newcastle along the way.

Bluesfest sideshows: Snarky Puppy, Meshell Ndegeocello and Blind Boys of Alabama When: March 25 – April 6

Snarky Puppy will supplement their set at Bluesfest’s 2024 edition with a pair of headline shows in Melbourne and Sydney on March 25 and March 27, respectively. Meshell Ndegeocello will bring her career-spanning setlist – as well as tracks from her latest album ‘The Omnichord Real Book’ – to Sydney’s Factory Theatre (March 25) and Melbourne’s Recital Centre (March 26), before Blind Boys of Alabama take to those same cities on April 4 (Sydney City Recital Hall) and April 6 (Melbourne Recital Hall).

Each of these acts will also grace the stage across Bluesfest’s three-day run from March 28 to April 1, with ticketing information for their sideshows linked above.

While Down Under for Souled Out festival, US singer-songwriter UMI will play two headline shows at Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory and Melbourne’s Night Cat. Expect to hear her name-making track, ‘Remember Me’ – though she’s more recently met a new audience with ‘Wherever U R’, featuring V of K-pop titans BTS .

You’d probably recognise PJ Morton’s voice even if you’ve never heard his name: the Maroon 5 keyboardist’s distinctive backing vocals can be heard in the mega band’s latter-day output. Morton will be performing his latest solo album ‘Watch the Sun’ at Bluesfest in 2024, before sideshows in Melbourne (170 Russell) and Sydney (Metro Theatre) on back-to-back nights in March.

Drive-By Truckers When: March 28 – April 1 Find tickets and more information

American alt-country legends Drive-By Truckers haven’t visited Australia in a decade and a half. Their long-overdue 2024 tour will see them perform as part of Byron Bay Bluesfest, along with headline shows in Melbourne and Sydney.

The band have released a whopping seven albums since they last played in the country, so there’ll be plenty of new cuts for them to show off at these shows.

Elvis Costello & The Imposters When: March 28 – April 4 Find tickets and more info

Costello and co’s plans for their first Australian tour in almost a decade were dashed at the 11th hour in April 2023. Less than 24 hours before their shows – in support of 2022 album ‘A Boy Named If’ – a case of COVID-19 within the band forced them to withdraw from Byron Bay Bluesfest 2023 and postpone their headline tour dates .

The good news is, new dates were swiftly locked in. Costello and the Imposters will be one of the headliners for 2024’s edition of Bluesfest , and play headline gigs at the Sydney Opera House and Melbourne’s Palais Theatre. Previously purchased tickets for Costello’s headline shows will remain valid, and they’re still on sale for the majority of dates.

After his debut Australian tour in 2022, the American-Korean singer Eric Nam will return in late March and early April as part of his massive, 66-date ‘House on a Hill’ world tour. Nam will play three shows – in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane – joined at all three by special guest Keenan Te.

Australia, says Chris Isaak, is his “favorite place to tour… or just hang out”. Get ready to play a ‘Wicked Game’ when the US singer-songwriter tours down under in April, kicking things off in Perth before going onto a run of A Day on the Green tour dates with supporting acts Boy & Bear , Mark Seymour & The Undertow, Vika & Linda and Mason Watts.

Isaak has added extra dates in Melbourne and Sydney in the same venues on April 17 and 11 respectively to cope with demand. He can’t wait : “Bring on the sun! Bring on the beach! I think I’m gonna wax my guitar…. I told you I was excited!”

Simple Plan, Boys Like Girls and We The Kings When: April 6 – April 18 Find tickets and more info here

Simple Plan are bringing a pop punk extravaganza to Australia in April 2024, headlining a tour with fellow genre stalwarts Boys Like Girls and We The Kings . The trio will play multiple shows in Perth, Sydney and Brisbane, as well as John Cain Arena in Melbourne and AEC Theatre in Adelaide.

+LIVE+ and Incubus When: April 6 – April 20 Find tickets and more info

+LIVE+ and Incubus will embark on a mammoth run of dates across Australia in April, both as headliners of the inaugural Lookout festival and as co-headliners of their own standalone tour. +LIVE+ and Incubus’ Lookout festival dates – where they’ll be joined by the likes of Birds of Tokyo and Eskimo Joe – span April 6-20, with appearances slated for Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia.

Elsewhere, the bands’ own co-headlining shows will take place in Wollongong (April 9), Sydney (April 11), Melbourne (April 15) and Adelaide (April 17).

In what promises to be one of 2024’s rowdiest tours, Bring Me The Horizon will bring their ‘NeX GEn’ shows to Australian shores next April, with stadiums booked for Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane . The Sheffield band’s string of performances from April 10 to April 21 comes ahead of their much-anticipated album, ‘POST HUMAN: NeX GEn’, and will enlist special guests Sleep Token , Make Them Suffer and daine . The Front Bottoms return for the first time since 2017, playing their biggest Aussie shows to date in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. Expect to hear fresh tracks from their 2023 album ‘You Are Who You Hang Out With’.

James Taylor: An Evening with James Taylor & His All-Star Band When: April 12 – April 28 Find tickets and more info here

If there was ever a festival made for James Taylor & His All-Star Band at this juncture of his 50-year career, it’s Day on the Green . The singer will perform at wineries in Queensland (Sirromet Wines in Mount Cotton), and New South Wales (Bimbadgen in the Hunter Valley, and Centennial Vineyards in Bowral) across April 2024. Taylor will be accompanied by Aussie pair Josh Pyke and Ella Hooper .

Taylor is also playing his own headline shows. After selling out dates in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney, new shows have been added in those cities. A Live Nation pre-sale begins February 9 while general on-sale starts February 12.

After a new mixtape, charting singles and landmark Boiler Room set, drum’n’bass lifers Chase & Status celebrated a huge 2023. This year, the British duo will bring the party to Australia and New Zealand on a sold-out co-headlining tour with Australia’s very own Luude. They’re notably playing RAC Arena in Perth, on top of Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane.

Fresh off winning three Grammys, SZA has announced a tour of Australia and New Zealand this April. The ‘Kill Bill’ singer will be performing two shows in New Zealand and eight across Australia, with shows confirmed for Auckland, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

Pandemonium Festival is bringing a glut of rock legends from yesteryear to Australian shores in 2024 , and has just announced two all-ages sideshows at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre to boot on April 22-23. The first night is headlined by NYC new wave icons Blondie , supported by Aussies Wolfmother and Cosmic Psychos . The next day, Alice Cooper will share a classic rock split bill with Deep Purple , while Gyroscope opens proceedings.

Initially slated to appear in Australia in November 2023, Beth Orton  rescheduled her Australian tour to April 2024 and added an extra show in Tasmania. The folk musician will now embark on a four-date run with performances in Melbourne, Hobart, Sydney and Brisbane from April 24 to April 30, with tickets for the original cities still valid for the rescheduled dates. The legendary Nick Cave embarks on a solo tour of Australia (read: without the Bad Seeds) this April, playing two shows in Melbourne and five in Sydney. Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood will be on bass duties for these shows at Plenary Melbourne and State Theatre Sydney, which are all sold out.

Elephant Gym isn’t the result of a random band name generator; “elephant” refers to the Taiwanese math rock band’s bass-led grooves, while “Gym” denotes the “agility” of their rhythm. Sadly, Groovin The Moo is no longer going ahead this year – but many of the artists who would have played the touring festival will still be forging ahead with their own Australian headline shows. Singer-songwriter Claire Rosinkranz, Wu-Tang Clan legend GZA (performing a set dubbed ‘Liquid Swords Live’) and Stephen Sanchez will all perform headline shows in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth.

Jessie Reyez will tour Australia for the first time in autumn, playing three shows along the east coast. The Canadian R&B singer will bring cuts from 2020 debut ‘Before Love Came to Kill Us’ and 2022 follow-up ‘Yessie’ to Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on April 30, before shows at the Forum in Melbourne and the Tivoli in Brisbane. Nothing But Thieves cleaned up on a sold-out tour of Australia last year – and they’re back for more. The UK alt-rockers have announced the second Aussie leg of their Dead Club City World tour, which will kick off at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion on April 30, continue on to Brisbane and Melbourne, and wrap up at Hindley Street Music Hall in Adelaide on May 7.

Joe , Nick and Kevin Jonas – the Jonas Brothers – play Australia for the first time between May 1 and May 9 as part of their massive Five Albums. One Night. Tour. The tour will see the brothers perform hits from all five of their albums across one night, including fan favourites.

UK prog metal outfit Tesseract are set to make the highly anticipated return to Australia in May 2024, marking their first shows Down Under since 2018. Between May 2 and May 9, the band will perform in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.

With 2023 album ‘War of Being’ and songs from 2021’s ‘Portals’ not played in Australia yet, Tesseract are set to bring with them a fresh bounty of new music to Australia.

UK indie rockers The Vaccines and Everything Everything are banding together for a co-headline tour of Australia, their first time back in the country since 2019 and 2018 respectively. Embrace the indie disco in May when they head to Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane and finally Sydney.

UK garage has been making a steady comeback, and DJ/producer Sammy Virji is one of its frontrunners. He’s set to come back to Australia for his biggest headline tour of the country yet. Virji will kick off his tour at Metro City in Perth on May 10, before heading through Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and finishing at The Roundhouse in Sydney May 18.

Melissa Etheridge is bringing her trailblazing heartland rock to Australian shores for the first time in five years in May 2024. The ‘I’m Not Broken’ tour kicks off in Perth on May 10, before heading through Adelaide, Melbourne and finishing up in Sydney on May 17. Fresh off the release of latest album ‘Ben’, Macklemore will embark on an Australian tour next May. The hip-hop artist will perform at Hordern Pavillion in Sydney on May 11-12, before taking to Melbourne’s John Cain Arena and Brisbane’s Riverstage on May 15 and May 17, respectively. In their first shows here since 2016, Sleater-Kinney are embarking on a theatre tour of Australia. Corin Tucker and Carrie Brownstein will play four headline shows down under in support of their latest album, ‘Little Rope’ , in what the latter has called a “homecoming” of sorts.

“For all intents and purposes, Sleater-Kinney got its start in Australia,” Brownstein said in a statement. “We recorded our first album and played our first ever shows there. Because of that, Australia feels like one of the band’s spiritual homes, and returning there always feels like a homecoming, a reunion.”

Jungle have unleashed more dancey goodness with their latest album, ‘Volcano’. Get ready to boogie in May when they tour Australia. The entire run, comprising the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney, Festival Hall in Melbourne, and Fortitude Music Hall in Brissy, is sold out.

Cult-favourite mathcore/hardcore/metal band Botch from Tacoma, Washington reunited last year more than two decades after their split – and now they’re embarking on their first-ever Aussie tour. The jaunt will include two dates in Melbourne and Sydney apiece as well as shows in Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane.

Guitarist David Knudson has promised Botch will go all out: “We don’t want to half-ass it…we want to be fucking tight as we ever were, if not tighter. We don’t want to disappoint a fan that’s never seen us live. So you know, it’s all in or nothing.”

Peter Hook , the legendary bassist and co-founder of Joy Division and New Order is set to return to Australia in May 2024, just two years after his last tour of the country in 2022. For the upcoming tour, Hook will perform the New Order and Joy Division substance compilations live, giving fans a chance to once again revel in both bands’ music.

Scottish indie rockers The Snuts will return for their second Australian tour in as many years, following their debut run of headline shows in 2023. With third studio album ‘Millennials’ in tow, the band will kick off their 2024 tour with a show at Melbourne’s Northcote Theatre. Tom Grennan will duck over to Australia for a pair of headline shows this year, following a debut visit in 2022. The English singer-songwriter will play Sydney’s Metro Theatre and 170 Russell in Melbourne on May 29 and 30 respectively.

Buzzy London trio Bar Italia are proteges of Dean Blunt, and have emerged from relative anonymity in the last few years with two albums of sinister post-punk. They’ll tour Australia for the first time in June, playing at Oxford Art Factory in Sydney and Brisbane’s Black Bear Lodge before a matinee show in Melbourne as part of RISING festival.

It’s been more than a decade since Tenacious D toured Australia, but that all changes in July. Jack Black and Kyle Gass will play their first shows in the country since 2013, performing six arena dates.

The tour will kick off with two shows at the ICC Sydney Theatre on July 13, continuing on to Newcastle, Brisbane and Melbourne before wrapping up at Adelaide Entertament centre on July 22. Find tickets here .

After postponing her original tour, the rescheduled dates for FLETCHER ’s long-awaited Australian visit have been locked in for mid-2024. K-pop girl group aespa will bring all the dra-ma-ma-ma down under for two stops of their SYNK: Parallel Line tour. The four-piece of Karina , Giselle , Winter and NingNing will perform in Sydney on August 31 and head to Melbourne two days later. Iron Maiden: The Future Past Tour When: September 1 – September 13 Find tickets and more info

In what will be their first trip Down Under since 2017, Iron Maiden are poised to bring The Future Past tour to stadiums in Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne next September.

The first three cities will host the metal legends between September 1 to September 10, while Melbourne and Sydney will each enjoy a two-night outing at Rod Laver Arena (September 6 and 7) and Qudos Bank Arena (September 12 and 13), respectively. Find tickets here.

US-based homegrown rap phenom The Kid LAROI ‘s return to Australia was supposed to take place in February, but it was postponed in December , with the Gamilaroi star calling February “logistically impossible”. If you look at the pop charts for any given week in the 1980s, chances are Kim Wilde was on it. The ‘Kids in America’ singer is still performing, on a break from her new life as a gardener, and will play a whirlwind Australian tour this October. Wilde will begin in Brisbane on October 17, before heading through Tweed Heads, Sydney, Wollongong, Perth, Adelaide and finishing in Melbourne October 26.

The Buzzcocks , progenitors of “love punk” and pop punk before it even existed, are still going strong almost 50 years after their formation. With Steve Diggle on vocals, replacing the late Pete Shelley, the band will return to Australia for seven shows in late October to early November. The Buzzcocks will begin on the Gold Coast on October 24, before travelling through Brisbane, Adelaide, Fremantle, Newcastle, Sydney and finishing in Melbourne on November 2.

PinkPantheress was once an anonymous beatmaker going viral on TikTok – she’s anything but anonymous now, as she comes to Australia for the first time promoting her debut album ‘Heaven’. Between opening for Coldplay , the 22-year-old Brit will headline shows at Melbourne’s Festival Hall (October 29) and Horden Pavilion in Sydney on November 5.

U2 (formed in 1976) is a highly-successful Irish rock band, formed of Bono, The Edge, Larry Mullen, Jr. and Adam Clayton, hailing from Dublin, Ireland.

Formed in 1976 after Larry Mullen, Jr. posted an advertisement on the bulletin board at Dublin’s Mount Temple Comprehensive, the band soon began practicing regularly and exploring their musical interests. Initially performing under the moniker The Hype before switching to the name of an American spy plane, the band’s popularity grew in Ireland through a string of independent releases.

The band signed to Isalnd Records and released their debut full-length “Boy” in 1980, followed the year after with the LP “October”. Thanks to American radio play and notoriously impressive live shows, U2 soon made name for themselves a procured a swelling fan base. U2’s subsequent release “War” in 1983 highlighted and cemented the band’s political conscious approach, documenting the unrest in Northern Ireland. The album which debuted at No. 1 on the British chart, spawned the politically-apt singles “Sunday Bloody Sunday” and “New Year’s Day”. Following another whirlwind worldwide tour in 1983 U2 released the live EP “Under a Blood Red Sky” recorded at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, U.S.

U2 went on to release “The Unforgettable Fire” in 1984, the fruit of a collaboration with Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois, despite Island Records’ reluctance. Again the band supported the release with historic arena performances including Live Aid and were even named Rolling Stone’s “Band of the ‘80s”.

By the mid-1980s U2 had become highly revered musicians, however did not become rock superstars until their 1987 album “The Joshua Tree”. It became the band’s first No. 1 U.S. hit and their third consecutive UK album to reach the top spot, certified platinum within 28 hours. The album’s success was due in part to the smash hits “With or Without You” and “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For”. Following the release the band explored their fascination with American roots music including blues, soul and folk and delivered the album “Rattle & Hum” in 1988.

The ‘90s brought a novel-sounding U2 and a collection of albums to boot including 1990’s “Achtung Baby”, the Bowie inspired dance and electronic album, “Zooropa” the 1993 techno dance influenced album, and the collaborative album “Original Soundtracks, Vol. 1” with Brian Eno in 1995. The same year U2 renewed their contract with Island Records for an estimated $170 million.

Fan disgruntlement at U2’s new self-conscious, postmodern and dance approach did little to alter the outcome of their subsequent album “Pop”, and ultimately became fan’s least favourite album. With such criticism the band teamed up again with Eno and Lanois in 2000 to record and release “All That You Can’t Leave Behind”. The album was a rock effort and considered one of their best, led by the singles “Beautiful Day” and “Walk On”.

The band followed the release up with the No. 1 album “How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb” in 2004, which led to the second highest grossing tour ever with $389 million. U2’s twelfth studio album “No Line on the Horizon” arrived in 2009, followed by "Songs of Innocence" in 2014, downloaded automatically to users of apple products.

U2 have sold more than 150 million records worldwide, have been awarded 22 Grammy Awards, have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility and are ranked by Rolling Stone 22nd on their list of “100 Greatest Artists of All Time”.

What makes a U2 concert so special? What is it about a U2 show that compels us to travel hundreds and thousands of miles to see virtually the same concert over and over?

A U2 show is more than just the songs in the concert. It is the feeling you get when you hear those songs. Whether they lift you up or remind you of a special time in your life, either way, the feeling you get when you hear U2 songs is euphoric. But a U2 concert is more than just those euphoric songs that are played. It is 80,000 people singing those songs together. The fact that each person at that show is feeling the exact same excitement you are. It is a sense of community and belonging. More than just the U2 concert itself, it is the whole experience. The traveling and hanging out with fellow U2 fans. The day of the U2 concert is a great time for U2 fellowship since we arrive at the stadium in the early afternoon either to line up in the GA (general admission) line or to wait for Bono, Larry, Edge and Adam to arrive. With many hours to kill before the concert begins, U2 fans share their U2 experiences, such as favorite songs, albums and concerts.

My favorite U2 concert, of the 75 I have seen, was on the Elevation Tour in Providence, Rhode Island on October 31, 2001. It was my favorite U2 member's 40th birthday, drummer Larry Mullen Jr. It was the night Larry and I shared a drink. The morning of the show, I woke up outside around 8am – pretty good sleeping outside in 30 degrees for five hours. I went up to the warm hotel room until about 10am, then had some breakfast. I stayed in the GA line all day without leaving, except to take a shower around 3:30. I got everyone in the GA line to sign the big orange birthday card I made for Larry. I put my name and email address on the back just in case. The band didn’t arrive until after we were inside. Wearing our Larry Mullen Band shirts, we got our spots at the rail up front and center between Bono and Adam.

I held up my birthday card for Larry as they walked on stage, but he didn’t notice it. There were many, many signs including one saying, ‘Bono let Larry sing.’ During Elevation, Bono sang, ‘ Celebration’ then said, ‘Happy Birthday.' After "Stuck in a Moment," Larry’s 40th birthday celebration began. We sang "Happy Birthday" to Larry. A birthday cake was brought out, and Larry pretended to throw it out into the audience. Larry took the mic and came to the front to talk while Bono sat behind the drums. Larry said, "Bono can’t play drums. It took me 40 years to get up front. I’m glad I’m spending my birthday with 18,000 of my closest friends. I feel like I could borrow money from you." Then Bono asked for a bottle of champagne, which he shook up a la ZooTV and sprayed the audience. Edge took a swig, then Larry drank and continued to drink for the next few songs.

After "Kite," Larry got off the drums and made a B line for me. I got my card and shirt in hand so I could give it to him, but that’s not why he was there. He gave me the champagne bottle – with champagne still in it. I drank some and shared it with my friends. Larry wanted to share his birthday with ME! He wanted ME to have a drink on his birthday. I was SO excited I didn’t even realize they played "Wild Honey," which they rarely play. After "Pride," Larry came back over to me so I could give him the birthday card and Elvis tee shirt. I said, "Thank you. Happy Birthday." He smiled and said, "Thank You." Later on, Bono noticed our Larry Mullen Band shirts, shook his head and smiled.

I doubt there will ever be another U2 show like that night in Providence. Granted it was Larry’s 40th Birthday, and I love Larry, but also for the rarities U2 played that night. "Slow Dancing" was played for the first time on the Elevation tour, and only the 11th time ever. "Party Girl" and "Wild Honey" were played for the first time on that leg of Elevation – and I’ve only heard those songs a couple of times ever. There was just a great energy in Providence that night. I still have that champagne bottle that Larry gave me on his 40th birthday.

Uma sociedade apolítica, mas que fundamenta suas crenças no que a imprensa local determina.

Acredito que essa é a melhor Tour em que estive, visto ser minha segunda vez num show do U2. Estive em 2006, em Vertigo e mesmo passando por um momento delicado, pois estava tomando medicação para síndrome do pânico e depressão, saí do estádio 90% melhor do que quando cheguei.

A atual turnê, é de uma dos melhores, se não a melhor, assim como o álbum do grupo e se pudesse iria em todas, Setilist fantástica, iluminação e palco minimalista e remetendo a uma simplicidade do inicio dos shows da Banda. Amei!!!!Parabéns e que venham muito mais........

I accompany the band since 1985, in the days of long or compact disc and my first album, the first record I bought was "War". I have always known the social and political position of the group, I think it is what caught my attention and captivated me from the beginning. But here in Brazil, we live in difficult times, of belligerence and intolerance of diverse forms, racial, social, and religious. An apolitical society, but that bases its beliefs on what the local press determines.

I think this is the best Tour I've been on, seeing it as my second time at a U2 show. I was in Vertigo in 2006 and even going through a delicate time, since I was taking medication for panic syndrome and depression, I left the stadium 90% better than when I arrived.

The current tour is one of the best, if not the best, as well as the group's album and if it could go in all, fantastic Setilist, minimalist lighting and stage and referring to a simplicity of the beginning of the bands shows. Congratulations and many more ........

Let me begin with, "U2 is the greatest band in the universe!" I have a strong connection with the band as the Joshua Tree tour was the first concert I ever attended back in 1987. 28 years later, they are still the best live band. I have been very fortunate to have seen them for most of their tours, Elevation, Vertigo, 360 and now ie. I was a broke college student during Zoo and PopMart.

U2 has a very loyal fan base. You will meet people that have seen 50-400 of their concerts. I am fortunate to have seen them 4x already during this tour.

The live experience during the ie tour is very personal and intimate. Bono shows such strong emotion during Iris which makes you want to cry. I heard Out Of Control at the 2nd Phoenix show and I had tears of joy rolling down my cheeks as that was the one song I have been waiting to hear since Elevation. LA 4th show they played 40 which made me cry......."How Long To Sing This Song......." Such a great tribute to the late Dennis Sheehan. Bono is the perfect frontman, always introducing the band as if we are meeting them for the first time. (Brandon Flowers never introduces the other Killers) Bono always has crowd interaction from shaking hands, kissing women's hands, bringing up a lucky fan for the Meerkat live stream and singing to a lucky fan (like me during Beautiful Day in the 2nd night Phoenix show) I'm still on cloud 9!!! Larry, The Edge and Adam also interact with the crowd. I know first hand as I got an air kiss from Adam. The Edge smiled at my friend. Larry shakes hands with people at the e stage.

I can go on and on how U2 is the perfect band. No other bands compare to them. What band has loyal fans waiting all night thru rain and hail to see them? What band always mentions how they tour for the music and the fans?? I sure don't think they need the money.

I will continue to see them until they tour no more. I ❤️ U2

Great show, very basic staging, which is a nice change of pace for U2 recently. It allowed you to focus on them as a band, 4 guys playing music together.

As a tour kick off, there will be some glitches and bugs, the worst of which is when The band and Bono totally flubbed the entire song With or Without You!!! The band was out of sync right from the start and that must have rattled Bono because he false started the first verse, got the lyrics wrong, then just stood there silent while the crowd sort of tried to chime in with the vocals. It was actually pretty awkward, and Bono didn't acknowledge it except by saying "you guys can sing this one".

It was so great to see them actually play Joshua Tree straight through, track by track. I wasn't sure that's how it would really play out. As an album about the greatness, and hardships, of America, with inspiration from American music, landscapes, and especially politics, there was no way to get through the set without nods (mostly subtle - for U2) to the current leadership in America. The opening 8-9 songs before actually launching into Joshua Tree were pretty telling about the bands politics and values of freedom, truth, and fulfilling the American dream. The fact that opening night coincidentally fell on the 60th anniversary of the Martin Luther King "Give Us the Vote" speech gave more weight to lyrics referencing King's assassination in "Pride (In the Name of Love)".

Finally, totally unrelated to Songkick or U2, but I have to say how HORRIBLE Levi's Stadium is and the whole process of getting there (unmanaged traffic), getting into the venue (no purses bigger than a cell phone allowed and no mention of that fact anywhere), getting food (seemed like only 25 people trying to sell hot dogs to 50,000!). Will never see another show there again no matter who the act is.

This show needed to start and finish in darkness to concentrate the mind on the amazing imagery and truly iconic music.

The lead in through tracks from Unforgettable Fire set the pace and raised the pulse rate to a crescendo at the onset of Where The Streets Have No Name where it remained at rates which would have set off many a hospital vital signs alarm until the end of the a play through of the entire Joshua Tree album.

Had this concert finished there it would have sad to depart - and U2 knew this so included a further array of some of their finest tracks from the last 30 years.

This was the trickiest period of the gig however, as not all of the next 35 - 40 minutes could match the standard set down by some of the best music of the 20th century. Moments of oddness crept in, as is Bono's way, and momentum was lost - not gained - towards the end.

Ultimately, an incredible visionary onslaught and a truly mammoth rendition of One lifted the gig back to the heights of its earlier euphoria.

This could easily have been the best concert I have ever seen, but on balance it dropped short. I would not have missed this for the world and I am sure I will look back in years to come and feel so pleased that I was there and saw what was a true moment in musical history. As it stands right now I have a mixed emotion... but there is no denying that of the many hundreds of concerts I have been to in the last 40 years this was right up there at the very pinnacle - a top ten bucket list moment.

U2 at Arrowhead Stadium in KC was a musical memory I'll put in my Top 10...so far. We got parking lot passes from Ticketmaster beforehand to save $$ & make navigating the throngs of traffic manageble. We got to the lot about 5:30 p.m. People had been there tailgating & the lot attendants were very organized, flagging us in to our spot. We immediately headed in to the Stadium so we could check out the U2 merchandise. Entering was a breeze, even with security, because we had checked online to see what could or couldn't be taken into the Stadium. The restrictions make lines move much quicker, even with entering through metal detectors. Walking up the ramp to our seat level was easy. U2 had merchandise areas set up at more locations, so lines there were less. The concession places had very friendly attendants. The stadium seats were very comfortable. Security was there in abundance & were also helpful & friendly. Concert acoustics for an open stadium were amazing. The only downside was the placement of the

audio towers or whatever they were, but they were necessary to provide the incredible U2 audio & visual experience. After the concert, we waited for an hour on purpose before exiting to avoid sitting in traffic, idling. Again, smooth exit. So I highly recommend seeing U2 for their musical talent, their political message & celebrating the 4th anniversary of the Joshua Tree album. ENJOY!

U2 are a band who have conquered the globe and are considered iconic by fans of most genres. With such staggering reputation it is obviously quite difficult to form a live show of equal stature. Luckily, Bono and co obtain a form of bravado that is required of any iconic band.

The key component of their gigs is that they understand how important and dear the audience hold tracks such as 'With Or Without You' and the intense sincerity in which they perform could not be more appropriate. There is an ethereal state when thousands upon thousands are singing along to 'The Streets Have No Name' whilst four musicians command the entire crowd.

There is no denying Bono performs with the same level of self-assuredness that he conducts himself in daily life yet when the opening bars of 'Pride' begin, this level of bombast is required to tackle these gargantuan anthems. They have an impossible amount of hits to choose from, yet the setlist feels well calculated and not simply a 'greatest hits' compilation. The use of snippets of their own music and classics by the likes of Bowie turned their gig from a concert into a musical celebration.

The concert was awesome but the venue was absolute crap!!!!! Paid $264.00 x 2 & a tower was blocking the view depending where the band was standing on the stage. So view blocked. Support act Noel Gallagher couldn’t hear him speak, don’t know what he was saying & sound not too good at all.

U2 came on & could hardly see them. GA would have been better & cheaper & from what Ive heard, they had the best place to hear.

SCG is not a good venue for a concert & we were so totally disappointed with what we paid, seating & going to ground & trying so squeeze through the line ups for toilets & good to get to the Merchandise shop. Then trying to get back up to level 5.

Please never put a concert there again, unless you our stage in centre, so everyone can see. You shouldn’t charge extreme prices for crap seating.

U2 was awesome as always but couldn’t always see them & at times hear them, the sound got better as the night went on.

Definitely very disappointed with SCG

Amazing concert as always. Lot of security at the entrances so it was a little bit slow everything and I was afraid because maybe I couldn't watch Noel Gallagher but organization was clever and started one hour later more or less. Really it was very difficult to be there at 19 with that security level. But everything was perfect. Noel played lot of Oasis songs with classics like Wonderwall, Little by Little or Don't Look Back in Anger. Then with less than 20 minutes delay, U2 came on stage. Larry Mullen started alone in the middle of the scenario situated at the center of the stadium and it all began... Thanks for allow us to remember a great album like Joshua Tree! All the songs in order, side A and side B if you like more the vinyl. And the last part... Amazing with songs like Elevation or Vertigo. And one last surprise... We could listen a new song from the upcoming album, Songs of Experience. No more to say: GREAT AS ALWAYS U2. We love you!

Best concert I've ever seen and probably will ever see save for another U2 show. No seat was a bad seat as they had a massive 'screen' that spanned roughly half the length and a third of the height of MSG. The screen could be lowered and raised and there was a catwalk inside of it as well as under it on the floor for the band members to move around on. Animations and live videos of the band members playing were projected onto the screen and could be interacted with inside of the screen. I've never seen anything like it.

They had a great mix of classic U2 songs and new ones all while using mixed media to create much more than a music concert. This was a retrospective art show, film screening, advocacy platform, etc. A final treat was Bruce Springsteen coming on near the end of the show trading mics with Bono to sing Where the Streets Have No Name. You have got to see this band live.

Ticket Sale Wrap Up for the First 2024 Shows

Today the tickets for the newly announced January and February dates at Sphere went on general sale. Overall the process seems to have gone smoother for many U2 fans this time around, it helps that there is more familiarity with the venue, the seating and views, and other elements of the process. Things still aren’t perfect, and the use of on demand pricing via the Platinum seats continues. Our wrap up of the general sales and fan club offers so far is below.

The fan club pre-sale once again used a system where you input a request for seats on various nights, and in various areas, and you found out later what tickets were assigned to you. This is similar to the old system used by Propaganda when we mailed in our requests, and it was also in use for Bono’s book tour. Like the pre-sales for the Fall shows, Platinum pricing was not in effect for the pre-sale, and all tickets were available at face value.

The face value remained the same, with tickets ranging from $140 to $505 across the venue in the fan club sale, but the seating map has changed, and more seats in the venue were at the higher price points. (All of the 200 section is now at the highest price point, where as in the Spring, only the middle four sections were at the highest price point as one example.)

Although overall the pre-sale seemed to get fans what they wanted, several fans did strike out. Even those with long standing subscriptions going back to the Propaganda days in some cases reported not getting any of their requests fulfilled. Some fans in the newer subscriber tier, “Violet”, were successful at getting requests fulfilled, so seniority alone is not the only factor at play, and those choosing more popular show dates or ticket types may have not had success.

But overall, the fan club route seemed more successful in general this time out for fans. Sadly not everyone was able to get tickets in this manner.

When the first shows went on sale in April, no one knew that many seats in the 100 levels were obstructed by an overhang. While the views of the band on the stage are some of the best in the house when it comes to seats, the fact that there is a level of seats directly overhead means you cannot see a good portion of the screen. When the December shows were announced these seats now were marked “Full view of the band and stage – Limited view of Sphere screen” but only row 30 and up were marked. Now that the shows have started, fans have seen these seats, and have found the limited view seating starts much lower down in the 100 level section. Ticketmaster has updated the seats that are marked limited view for these new sales, and the marked “limited view” seats now start with row 25 in each section in the 100s. This covers most of the issues, however, section 101/102 and 109/110 have a bit more blocked than others, and there may still be some blocked views not being included in these Ticketmaster warnings for those end sections. It looks like tickets from row 25 back were not included in the offerings to the fan club.

Today’s on-sales were staggered in time. They didn’t all go on sale at one time, which was nice, it allowed you to try for the early shows, and if unsuccessful try again for some of the later shows. The first two shows, January 26 and 27, went on sale at 11am PT. January 31 as well as February 2 and 3 went on sale at noon. February 7, 9 and 10 went on sale at 1pm, and the remaining shows went on sale at 2pm (February 15, 17, 18).

You were helpfully reminded that there were other shows on-sale five minutes in if you were still in the waiting room at that time.

One other big change with these new shows? Ticketmaster has turned on the resale option for seats. Which means you can resell your tickets to someone else directly through Ticketmaster for these new shows, which was never an option for the Fall shows. But that means as soon as tickets went on sale, resale tickets started popping up for sale at crazy prices. Not to be outdone, Ticketmaster also had Platinum pricing in effect for the tickets for seats. Between resale, and platinum pricing it was difficult to find seats which weren’t jacked way up in price, unless you wanted those previous mentioned limited view seats. (They were slightly cheaper this time out, coming up at $466 for price as well.)

If you look to the right, you could turn off the resale seats, the Platinum pricing, and the limited view seats. A few seats in all price levels were showing at face value when we were in, but far less than had the Platinum pricing for sure. It looked as these were being sold new seats in some of these sections were popping up, so keep on trying.

What does Platinum pricing look like? Well a face value seat at $466 in the 200 section, was now showing up for $1484 with the Platinum pricing added. Three times the price at face value, and this was Ticketmaster charging these prices.

We were unsuccessful with any of our own attempts we made to buy GA today. They were all sold out by the time we made it through the queue into the purchase area. Getting into the queue half an hour before things went on sale meant we were 1222 in the queue when tickets went on sale, but alas, demand rapidly consumed those tickets and after ten minutes of waiting, we were told that things were sold out. Purchasing seats was an easier experience, and there likely will be plenty of seats available in the weeks leading up to these shows. (As well, each night before the show, there’s a GA drop, meaning if you can do last minute, they often do become available just before show time in small amounts.)

We can however, confirm that some GA’s were available at face value in today’s sales. They did go quick.

One thing to note, Verified Fan, was not used for these sales. Anyone could access them when they went on sale, regardless if they had been verified or not in the past. For the first round of shows Verified fan was in use for ticket sales and many fans reported never being given the change to even try for tickets. Unlike those sales, everyone could try today.

Finally we’ve seen some questions about the different sections on GA tickets for these new shows. They are labelled section GA01, GA02 etc. This notation is for accounting purposes and to keep track of tickets sold, but there is no real world separation at the shows. Tickets were marked the same way for the earlier shows which are happening now, and all normal GA tickets use the same entrance and enter into the same spot. (There is a separate VIP entrance for those who buy GA via a package, those are likewise numbered with the different section numbers.)

U2 Leads February Boxscore Report With Final Sphere Shows

The UV Achtung Baby Live residency wraps up on top.

On February’s Top Tours list, U2 is in the winner’s circle with monthly earnings of $56.5 million from 166,000 tickets sold.

February is U2’s first month at No. 1, after sitting at No. 2 in December of 2019 and 2023, both behind Trans-Siberian Orchestra . This marks the first Irish act to claim monthly honors.

The group’s haul north of $50 million comes from 10 shows, all at Las Vegas’ Sphere. The rock quartet christened the Sin City arena with the first show from its U2:UV Achtung Baby Live residency in September, and to date, is still the only act to play at the venue. Concert series by Dead & Company and Phish are scheduled for later on Sphere’s 2024 calendar.

Residencies at this scale – 40 arena shows in six months – are unprecedented. Prior to U2’s kickoff, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars were the only residency acts to crack the top 10 of Top Tours. The traditional Vegas model is for acts such as them to play sold-out theaters to roughly 5,000 fans each night, with the flexibility to charge extravagant prices for the opportunity to see an A-list artist in a more intimate setting.

U2 is playing by similar rules, with its $340 average ticket within 5% of Mars (No. 19), but expanded to an arena audience. Demonstrating the same intensity of demand as theater residencies but broadened to an audience three times as big, U2’s monthly victory, ahead of stadium tours at Nos. 2-3, is groundbreaking.

With all that activity from one arena, U2 also crown Top Boxscores, with Sphere reigning as the month’s top-grossing venue. Both victories were decisive, by a margin of more than 3:1.

U2’s recent run began on Jan. 26 and stretched through March 2, earning $84.7 million during that period. Dating back to opening night (Sept. 29, 2023, and through its close on March 2), the U2: UV Achtung Baby Live residency brought in $244.5 million and sold 663,000 tickets over 40 shows.

That is the lowest show count – by far – for any residency with a gross of $100 million or more. Mars and Billy Joel (Madison Square Garden) are the only others with a nine-digit gross and fewer than 100 shows.

Former chart-topper P!nk is No. 2 on Top Tours with a $48.3 million gross. Shows from the Australian leg of the Summer Carnival Tour sold 437,000 tickets in February, marking the highest attendance total of the month. This is P!nk’s third time at No. 2, following stints in April 2019 and August 2023, adding to her three months at No. 1 (March 2019, July 2019, October 2023).

Oceania brought in more revenue than North America or Europe on P!nk’s I’m Not Dead Tour (2006-07), the Funhouse Tour (2009) and The Truth About Love Tour (2013-14). Her recent leg, stretching through March 23, marks her first time in stadiums in Australia and New Zealand, having made the outdoor transition elsewhere on the Beautiful Trauma World Tour (2018-19).

Including her March dates, P!nk’s 20 continental shows grossed $104.3 million and sold 980,000 tickets, bringing the tour’s total to $361.8 million and 2.8 million tickets. With more dates scheduled in the U.S. and Canada, and Europe through November, the Summer Carnival will easily become P!nk’s first to cross $400 million. The Beautiful Trauma World Tour came agonizingly close when it wrapped in 2019 with $397.3 million.

Karol G follows at No. 3, leading a trifecta of Latin stars in the top 10. Luis Miguel sits just beneath at No. 4, and Bad Bunny rounds out the group at No. 10. Across shows in the U.S. (Bad Bunny), Mexico (Karol G) and South America (Luis Miguel).

Stars of the 21st century fill out most of the rest of the top 10, with Madonna , Depeche Mode , Blink-182 and the Eagles filling out Nos. 5 and 7-9, respectively. Ed Sheeran rounds out the top 10 at No. 6 as the last of six $30 million tours from February. Emerging from the slow winter months, the last time more acts crossed the $30 million threshold was August, when Beyoncé led P!nk, Metallica , Morgan Wallen, The Weeknd , Drake and the Jonas Brothers .

Behind Sphere as the month’s top venue, London’s O2 Arena and Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena bring the U.K. and Australia to the top of the heap at Nos. 2-3, respectively, peppered by Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena at No. 6 and Manchester’s AO Arena at No. 7.

Aerosmith Announce 2024-2025 North American Farewell Tour

Aerosmith have unveiled the dates for their rescheduled North American farewell tour, taking place from September 2024 through February 2025. As was the case with the original itinerary, the “Peace Out” tour will feature support from The Black Crowes .

The legendary rock act had kicked off the tour in September 2023, but the outing only lasted three shows before singer Steven Tyler experienced a serious vocal injury. The band was forced to postpone the remaining dates indefinitely.

Now, Aerosmith have announced that the rescheduled tour will launch September 20th in Pittsburgh, and run through a February 26th show in Buffalo, New York. Along the way, they’ll play Los Angeles on December 7th; a hometown New Year’s Eve show in Boston on December 31st; and New York City’s Madison Square Garden on February 23rd, among dozens of other cities.

All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the rescheduled shows, while tickets for the new dates go on sale Friday (April 12th) at 10 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster .

The kickoff show in Pittsburgh on September 20th and the next one in Philadelphia on September 23rd are being made up despite those being two of the cities Aerosmith did get to play in 2023, perhaps acknowledging that Tyler’s voice wasn’t up to par at those concerts.

When the tour originally launched last September, Aerosmith featured a lineup of original members Tyler, guitarists Joe Perry and Brad Whitford, and bassist Tom Hamilton, along with drummer John Douglas (who’s been filling in for Joey Kramer the past few years) and keyboardist Buck Johnson. While no announcement has been made, it is assumed that the same lineup will set out this coming September.

Tyler had recently been embroiled in a lawsuit alleging the sexual assault of a minor in the 1970s, but that suit was tossed out by a judge in February.

The Black Crowes, meanwhile, recently released Happiness Bastards , their first new album in 15 years. They will be on board for all of the dates except the kickoff show in Pittsburgh, where Teddy Swims will have the honor of opening for Aerosmith.

Tesla drops FSD price to $99 per month in US

Pandemonium Rocks removes Deep Purple, Placebo, Dead Kennedys and more from this month's tour

After weeks of conjecture and social media speculation, new touring rock music festival Pandemonium Rocks has confirmed details for its events, including its final, smaller line-up and two venue changes.

Over the weekend, it was confirmed that headline acts Deep Purple and Placebo would no longer appear on the line-up for these shows, while New York legends Blondie and shock rock icon Alice Cooper remain on the bill.

Punk legends Dead Kennedys and Gang Of Four are also no longer a part of the line-up, nor are Perth punks Gyroscope or Thai up-and-comer Petch .

On the upside, legendary UK group Psychedelic Furs will still play Pandemonium, as will famed teenage dirtbags Wheatus , Australian rockers Wolfmother and Cosmic Psychos , and American glam guys Palaye Royale .

The Gold Coast event will now take place at the Broadwater Parklands rather than its original venue, Doug Jennings Park. The event scheduled for Sandstone Point Hotel near Bribie Island will now happen at Eatons Hill Hotel in Brisbane's northern suburbs.

The two festival sideshows scheduled to happen in Newcastle have been combined into one, co-headlined by Blondie and Alice Cooper.

Festival to offer partial refunds or free tickets

It was those two headline acts who first confirmed new details about the event in social media posts on Saturday morning, Australian time.

"Despite the recent press reports that the Pandemonium Festival would be cancelled, we — Alice Cooper and Blondie — have worked closely together over the past several weeks to make it happen, despite serious challenges that threatened the festival tour," their statement read.

By late last week, some bands had all but confirmed their removal from the event. Headliners Placebo and Deep Purple quietly removed the dates from their websites, while others — such as Californian punk icons Dead Kennedys — explicitly told fans they were no longer on the line-up.

"We regret to inform everyone that Dead Kennedys will not be performing at the Pandemonium Festival shows in Australia later this month as the shows have been reduced to one stage and Dead Kennedys will not be included in the line-up," the band wrote on social media on Friday.

These changes added fuel to a social media fire that had erupted weeks earlier, following a Channel Nine Gold Coast report that stated the event was to be cancelled.

Two weeks ago, event organisers responded to these cancellation reports , admitting they would be forced to shrink their offering from two stages to a single-stage event. At the time, they did not confirm which artists would play the smaller event, leaving fans nervous that their favourite acts would not make the cut.

"I'm not happy, because the four bands I wanted to see are not playing anymore," ticketholder Georgiana Mannion told ABC Gold Coast's Bern Young over the weekend.

In response, organiser Andrew McManus said the festival would offer partial refunds or complimentary tickets to those unsatisfied with the revised line-up.

"Obviously we need to try and maintain as strong a presence as we can," he told Young on Saturday.

"At this point of time, everybody that has purchased a ticket already at the two-stage price is going to get a $70 voucher [to] spend at the bar [or] at the merchandise desk. Or they get a free ticket for a friend."

Pandemonium Rocks have confirmed to fans that they will be entitled to a $70 refund, a complimentary GA ticket, or a Pandemonium Rocks hoodie. 

This is unlikely to satisfy fans such as Ms Mannion, who told the ABC she would seek a refund.

"I've contacted the promoter on a couple of occasions, I've contacted Oztix who sold me the tickets on a couple of occasions, I've not had any response from them yet," she said.

"If I don't get any response in the next week, my next recourse is to go to my credit card company and say that this is a transaction that I don't approve."

The reasons for Pandemonium's deafening silence

Social media has been rife with negative comments and speculation about the festival, with this disquiet only fuelled by the festival organisers' lack of updates on the event.

Mr McManus insisted his silence was necessary in an attempt to avoid stoking further negativity.

"I couldn't come out and say, 'I can't make a comment yet because we haven't got the visas through,'" he said.

"That would have only given negativity to what is already a very negative landscape.

"With the amount of festivals that are collapsing and going into liquidation, it's been a very difficult time to be positive and give positive announcements. I had to wait."

The cancellation of music festivals is becoming a worryingly common story. Last Friday, beloved Tasmania festival Mona Foma announced its 2024 edition was its last after 16 years.

Just a week after tickets went on sale last month, longstanding youth music festival  Splendour In The Grass announced  it would not take place this year due to "unexpected events", while regional touring festival  Groovin The Moo  made the same decision earlier in March.

These are just a few of many examples of festivals that are buckling under a perfect storm of economic pressure that makes presenting the events less viable than in past years.

Even for a promoter who has faced his share of controversy and criticism over his decades in the music industry, those negative comments still sting.

"No matter how thick skinned you are, some of the things that are written, especially personal attacks on me … you would think that I got out of bed each day trying to screw over the public," he said. "I couldn't say anything."

'Our sales were not what we expected'

Mr McManus admitted the issue of obtaining visas was "a side issue" and that the main concerns around the festival's viability were financial.

"Our sales, like Splendour [In The Grass] and like all the others, were not what we expected," Mr McManus said.

"So, we had two choices: either to pull the pin, or redefine it and ensure we still have a great event and a great product and bring it back to one stage. And that was the route we decided to take.

"Others, like Groovin The Moo and what have you, they just pulled the pin and said, 'No, we're done.' We decided that we're going to keep going."

Speaking with triple j's Hack program last month, Australian Festival Association managing director Mitch Wilson said  all music festivals were currently faced with greater challenges than usual .

"We're seeing costs up 30 to 40 per cent across the board, and ticket sales just aren't where they need to be to cover those costs," they said.

"Australian festivals are really struggling at the moment because of the strength of the Australian dollar, and travel costs are through the roof."

Pandemonium is not immune to those cost increases.

"Millions and millions," Mr McManus said when asked how much was on the line for an event like his.

"I don't want to get the abacus out, but I can tell you it's an extraordinary amount of money," he said.

"Unfortunately, with the state of play, our build costs over the last three years have doubled."

Those costs, which include basics like staging, toilets, fencing, permits, transport, cleaning and police have hit the bottom line of events everywhere.

"That bill price used to be 250 [thousand] now it's 500,000," he said of setting up one leg of an event like Pandemonium.

"We've all tried to keep our prices in check, yet the costs on the other side of it are double. So, we either need more people, or we lift the ticket price. And lifting the ticket price has proven [to be] a stumbling block because people, especially in this economy, can't afford to come.

"It's a catch 22. It's nerve racking, I can tell you."

Australian rapper and singer The Kid Laroi is stopping at Vibrant Music Hall in July as part of his 2024 tour, "The First Time Tour."

The Kid Laroi, or Charlton Kenneth Jeffrey Howard, will perform at the Live Nation-owned venue on July 7 with Glaive, of the “ hyperpop revolution ” as the Los Angeles Times described it, and alt-R&B artist Chase Shakur .

With more than 30 million monthly listeners on Spotify, Laroi has collaborated with artists like Justin Bieber to BTS superstar Jungkook. Some of Laroi’s biggest hits have been “Stay,” “Without You” and “Too Much.”

The rapper shared his story and challenges with mental health in the documentary “Kids Are Growing Up: A Story About a Kid Named Laroi” released on Prime Video earlier this year.

The tour marks the beginning of what plans to be a super massive travel cycle for Closure In Moscow as they head across to the U.S on the Warped Tour playing all 44 shows.

Tones and I is hitting the road in 2024 and will be playing venues across Australia and New Zealand in August and September.

The Melbourne musician is the most streamed female artist on Spotify reaching 3 billion streams with her song Dance Monkey.

It has been three years since the artist’s last headline tour when she received acclaim for her “electric live performances and masterful song writing.”

She also supported P!nk at a 20-date stadium tour across Australia and New Zealand earlier this year.

Tones and I said the support and love from Australia and NZ had been incredible.

“My live show is something I hold very close to my heart and is the best representation of who I am,” she said.

“I’m so grateful to be embraced by people around Australia and NZ. I hope people leave feeling part of something.”

The tour kicks off in Sydney on August 23, followed by shows in Newcastle, Auckland, Brisbane, Townsville, Fremantle before finishing in Melbourne on September 7.

Fans can expect to hear new material with Tones and I performing songs from her sophomore album, including Dreaming and I Get High along with favourites Dance Monkey, Fly Away, Cloudy Day and Never Seen The Rain.

Since exploding onto the music scene in 2019 as a busker from Melbourne’s Mornington Peninsula, Tones and I has smashed records and won multiple awards.

She surpassed 10 billion streams, earned five ARIAs, and reached multi-platinum heights around the world.

Her breakout hit Dance Monkey went platinum six times in the US, and has held held a spot in the Top 10 Most-Streamed Song of All-Time on Spotify.

Now, 52 years (!) later, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers will celebrate their mega hit on their ‘1 More Time Tour’ with fellow Rock Hall inductees Yes all summer long.

Along the way, Ian Gillan and co. are scheduled to make five New York and New Jersey stops.

First, the heavy hitmakers drop into Camden, NJ’s Freedom Mortgage Pavilion on Friday, Aug. 30.

After that, the London natives swoop into Holmdel, NJ’s PNC Bank Arts Center on Aug. 31, Wantagh, NY’s Jones Beach Theater on Sept. 1 and Saratoga Springs, NY’s Saratoga Performing Arts Center on Sept. 4.

Deep Purple closes their NY run at Bethel’s Bethel Woods Center For The Arts on Sept. 6.

For fans that can’t wait to rock out to “Hush,” “Highway Star,” “Space Truckin'” — and of course “Smoke On The Water” — tickets for all North American concerts can be picked up as soon as today.

Being together for 56 years doesn’t mean Deep Purple doesn’t have more to give to the world.

In 2022, the band reached deep into their archives and dug out “ Extras: The Infinite B Sides and Bonus Songs”  which is a must for any Purple superfan.

However, what we found most interesting was the band’s latest record of original music, 2021’s bluesy, New Orleans-y  “Turning To Crime.”

Featuring epic rock (“7 and 7 Is”) as well as lively party startin’ tunes (“Rockin’ Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu”) and covers from B.B. King (“Let the Good Times Roll”) and Cream (“White Room”), the album is certainly a departure from the hard rockers’ heavy fare they’re famous for.

Still, for our money, the best track on the record is the Southern-fried rock and roll number “Oh Well.”

We’ve been listening to it on repeat all day.

After over 50 years together — they formed in 1968 — the core of Deep Purple remains the same.
