Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon ® Water Park

For the most up-to-date information on WALT DISNEY WORLD® Resort, please visit: Welcome to a World of Magic .

Surf’s up at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park at  Walt Disney World ® Resort , where legend tells the tale of a whirlwind storm. Hurling surfboards into palm trees, propelling small boats onto rooftops, and impaling a shrimp boat to the top of volcanic Mount Mayday, the tempest finally calmed and left behind a tropical paradise where you’ll experience peaceful bliss and pulse-pounding adventure alike.

Save on discount tickets:  Walt Disney World Resort

The action begins with the park’s raft rides, which include solo runs at Keelhaul Falls and the extra-intense Mayday Falls. Or, grab a partner for the two-person Crush ‘n’ Gusher, a 400-foot “water coaster.”

The whole gang can enjoy a four-person journey on Gang Plank Falls or Typhoon Lagoon’s newest attraction, Miss Adventure Falls — one of the longest rides at any Disney water park. Not that you need a raft to have a fast time here. Storm Slides offer three ways to zip downhill in a hurry, and Humunga Kowabunga will send you flying 214 feet down at a 60-degree angle … in the dark.

Kids won’t be left out of the fun, either, thanks to Ketchakiddee Creek — featuring aquatic activities for  little ones  — and Bay Slides’ pint-sized runs. The latter feed into a shallow, secluded corner of Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool, where parents can enjoy 6-foot swells in the deeper section. And the whole family can take a relaxing journey around the park on the 2,000-foot-long Castaway Creek.

Ready to dive in? See below for more information about Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon — one of many unique experiences that can only be had in Orlando.

Make a splash at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park. Unless otherwise noted, all experiences at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon are suitable for all ages and heights.

It’s the kid-friendly version of the thrill ride, Storm Slides. Gentle curving slopes and a fun, final splash add just the right amount of excitement for toddlers and little kids. It's designed for kids under 5 feet tall, and parents can meet their kids at the shallow end of the surf pool.

Height restrictions : 60 inches (152 cm) or shorter

Castaway Creek

Find yourself adrift on a scenic lazy river as you ride along on an inner tube. Flow along the 2,000-foot-long journey through cascading waterfalls, cool mists, overhead rope bridges and tropical landscapes. Venturing through the cavern-like tunnel inside of Mount Mayday is a fun plus.

Crush ‘n’ Gusher

Explore an abandoned fruit-processing plant, where fruit was washed before packing it. Select a fruit chute: Pineapple Plunger, Coconut Crusher or Banana Blaster. Dips and powerful jets of water propel you through uphill surges and downhill turns. The best part? A final plunge into Hideaway Bay.

Height restrictions : 48 inches (122 cm)

Gangplank Falls

Big kids, teens and adults will swoosh down a mountain, swirl past gushing waterfalls, ride under rustic bridges, and spin from bank to bank in a giant inner tube designed for the ultimate ride down sweeping rapids. Medium intensity fun for the whole family awaits.

Humunga Kowabunga

Catapult through the darkness for a near vertical, 5-story drop. Slides are positioned at a 60-degree angle, creating a fierce thrill ride. Scream “kowabunga” as you drop and splash down 214 feet of pure excitement.

Height restrictions : 48 inches (122 cm)

Keelhaul Falls

Take the scenic and thrilling route on Keelhaul Falls, whitewater rapids that roar past waterfalls and caves before dropping you off for a final splash.

Ketchakiddee Creek

Preschoolers and kids under 4 feet tall will love this water playground equipped with pools of shallow water, mini-slides, rapid rides and animal-shaped sculptures that squirt water. Best of all, there’s a small beach just perfect for building sandcastles.

Height restrictions : 48 inches (122 cm) or shorter

Mayday Falls

Climb Mount Mayday where  Miss Tilly , a shipwrecked shrimp boat, sits at the summit. Hop on a one-person raft for a wild ride down the rapids as you venture through caverns and wild twists and turns. It’s the most intense ride of all three of the raft attractions at  Disney's Typhoon Lagoon  Water Park.

Miss Adventure Falls

Captain Mary Oceaneer, whose treasure was lost in the mighty typhoon, runs a whitewater voyage company like no other. An aquatic conveyor belt propels four-person rafts on to a treacherous voyage, where guests will spot artifacts and treasure from around the world. Will all the treasure ever be retrieved?

Storm Slides

Select from a trio of curving, 300-foot winding body slides and propel yourself down three stories of twisting adventure. Ride all three then choose your favorite: Jib Jammer, Rudder Buster and Stern Burner.

Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool

Encounter 6-foot waves that will captivate big kids, tweens, teens and adults. Gentle ripples transform into colossal, surfer-loving waves. A thundery sonic boom promptly alerts swimmers that waves are going from mild to exciting. Hang out in shallow waters, plunge into the deep end, or relax on the sandy-white beaches.

For a little bit extra, you can set your family up in style and comfort. Rentals are on a first-come, first-served basis and advanced reservations are highly recommended.

Beachcomber Shacks

Splurge a little and enjoy resort-like amenities while lounging in your own private, shaded space. Beachcomber Shacks make that happen with cushioned seating, a storage locker, refillable drink mugs and a cooler stocked with ice and bottled water. Your rental accommodates up to six guests, and an attendant is on hand to take your party’s food orders.

Discover more ways to have a blast at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park.

Learn to Surf Like a Pro

Whether you’ve surfed before or are a novice, lessons from a pro surfer are a special experience you won’t want to miss. Private group lessons are offered before the park opens. Reservations are required, and you must provide your own surf equipment.

Hang 10 at a Private Session

Each three-hour session is jam-packed with up to 100 waves to surf. Polish up on your surfing skills or learn board basics. Either way, you’ll encounter optimal surfing conditions. Lessons are open to a maximum of 25 guests including you. Hang 10 or shoot a curl as you ride waves up to 6-feet tall.

Complete Guide to Typhoon Lagoon at Disney World

Complete Guide to Typhoon Lagoon at Disney World

Typhoon Lagoon is one of 2 Disney-owned water parks at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. With its towering palm trees and island feel, you’ll find it far more tropical than its counterpart over at Blizzard Beach and a popular destination for guests wanting a break from the main theme parks.

But, just like the theme parks, a little advanced planning can help you minimize your waits and maximize your experience, and we have the tips and resources to help you do just that.

Save this post to Pinterest for later

Let’s take a look…

Typhoon Lagoon tickets

Guests wanting to visit Typhoon Lagoon have multiple options for tickets:

1 day tickets to Typhoon Lagoon

Cost: $73.49 adult/$67.10 child (tax included)

If you plan on only visiting a Disney water park 1 time and if you aren’t purchasing Park Hopper tickets, this is your best option. If you plan on visiting a Disney water park on multiple days, you’ll want to consider adding on either the Park Hopper Plus or the Water Park and Sports option to a base ticket.

Park Hopper Plus

Park Hopper Plus tickets (used to be called Park Hopper + Water Park Fun & More) allow you to park hop between the 4 main theme parks, plus they give you extra entry entitlements into venues outside of the main parks.

The number of extra entries you receive equals the number of days on your ticket (so a 5 day ticket gets you 5 extra entries), and you can use them in any combination (including going back to the same place more than once) at the following locations:

  • Blizzard Beach
  • Typhoon Lagoon
  • NBA Experience
  • ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex
  • Disney’s Oak Trail Golf Course – FootGolf and Golfing
  • Fantasia Gardens and Winter Summerland Miniature Golf Course

Water Park & Sports

If you plan to make 2 or more visits to the places listed above BUT you know you won’t want to hop between parks, you can purchase the Water Park & Sports option.

With this add-on you can visit one theme park each day of your ticket plus, based on the length of your ticket, you can also enjoy a certain number of visits to a water park or other Disney World sports-related experience from the Park Hopper Plus list.

Annual Passes

You can purchase an Annual Pass to just the water parks for $148.04 and the Platinum Plus Annual Pass also has water park entries included in its price.

Typhoon Lagoon hours and annual refurbishment

Typhoon lagoon park hours.

Like all Walt Disney World parks, the hours for Blizzard Beach are posted 180 days in advance.  To make it easy, we compile all park hour information in one spot on our Crowd Calendars so you don’t have to.

These handy crowd calendars also include the entertainment and firework information for all parks, and they can be found on the monthly pages under the Crowd Calendar section at the top of the site.

In addition to the Crowd Calendars, the monthly pages also provide information on:

  • refurbishments
  • special events
  • overall park crowd levels
  • reservation dates

Visit the Crowd Calendar now to find the Typhoon Lagoon park hours for your trip.

Avoid crowds at Disney World

Typhoon Lagoon refurbishment

Once a year (during the winter months) each of the Disney water parks closes for an extended refurbishment. Which park closes first usually alternates, but be sure to double check your Monthly Dashboard for current refurbishment information if you plan on visiting a water park between the end of October and mid-March.

Typhoon Lagoon and the weather

The water at Typhoon Lagoon is heated, making the park a good choice to visit during most days of the year; however, during inclement weather or if an extended bout of cold temperatures are predicted, Disney will close the water parks.

During the summertime, afternoon storms are a common occurrence and will result in the park closing. Unless the storms look to be long-lasting, this closure is usually temporary and often results in a mass exodus of guests, meaning if you can handle dealing with rain for a bit you’ll often find shorter lines after the all-clear to get back in the water is given.

Since closures can happen while you are on your vacation, the best way of keeping up to date is to use the My Disney Experience app on your phone to check current park information.

Typhoon Lagoon touring plan

All of the Typhoon Lagoon attractions are listed below. If you arrive at park opening, do things in this order: slides, lazy river, wave pool.

Arriving mid-day? Just reverse that order.

Typhoon Lagoon slides and attractions

Note: Even though lots of the slides may not have a height requirement, it is important to know that some empty into water that can be quite deep and anybody riding a slide that requires the use of a raft must be able to hang onto their raft independently (you can’t hold your child on your lap, for example).

Storm Slides

3 body slides (no raft) that drop you 3 stories before depositing you into a pool at the bottom.

undercover tourist typhoon lagoon

Miss Adventure Falls

This new family raft-ride carries you up to the top of the mountain on a conveyor belt before being sent back down through the rapids in search of treasures from around the world.

undercover tourist typhoon lagoon

Mayday Falls

The most intense of the 3 raft rides on Mount Mayday, this slide is the longest (and highest) slide at Typhoon Lagoon.

undercover tourist typhoon lagoon

Keelhaul Falls

The least intense of the 3 raft rides on Mount Mayday, this slide has you spinning down an open slide before landing with a splash at the bottom.

Humunga Kowabunga

Three thrilling 214 feet downhill enclosed slides all set at a 60-degree angle.

undercover tourist typhoon lagoon

Gangplank Falls

One of 3 raft-rides on Mount Mayday (this one is in the middle in regards to intensity), this 300-foot-long waterslide lets guests in groups of 4 travel down the mountain while spinning through rapids and waterfalls.

undercover tourist typhoon lagoon

Crush ’n’ Gusher

This one-of-a-kind, multi-passenger, water roller-coaster is one of the signature attractions of Typhoon Lagoon. Guests have the option of 3 different slides (2 that are for multiple riders and 1 for solo riders).

undercover tourist typhoon lagoon

Wave pool & lazy river

Typhoon lagoon surf pool.

Far more than your average wave pool, the Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool creates waves that are large enough to surf on (6-feet tall) about every 90 seconds (this continues for about 90 minutes), followed by approximately 30 minutes of much milder, more child-friendly waves.

undercover tourist typhoon lagoon

Castaway Creek

An amazing and relaxing 2,000-foot-long lazy river that winds its way around the perimeter of Typhoon Lagoon.

Children's areas

Ketchakiddee creek.

This water-based play area is specially designed for children 48 inches or shorter and features fun, interactive shallow areas for free play as well as several mini-slides, fountains, and even a cave complete with a waterfall.

These fun-sized slides (beginner versions of the more thrilling Storm Slides) are conveniently located on the edge of the Surf Pool.

To use the navigator, you simply enter your starting and ending point and it will give you all the different options you have to get from point a to point b – perfect for when you’re trying to find the best way to get to Typhoon Lagoon.

Typhoon Lagoon

Typhoon Lagoon parking

If you prefer to drive at Disney World , you’ll be happy to know that parking at Typhoon Lagoon is quick, painless and FREE.

If you’ll have a car while on your trip we highly recommend driving versus taking a bus since parking is free, and if you don’t change out of your wet swimsuit before you leave it’s more comfortable to ride back to your resort in a car versus a freezing bus.

Typhoon Lagoon cabana (Beachcomber Shacks) and Getaway Glen rental information

If you’d like a guaranteed spot to have as a home-base while on your visit to Typhoon Lagoon, Disney offers a couple different options. To book either you’ll need to call (407) WDW-PLAY.

What to bring to Typhoon Lagoon

Like any water park, there are some items you’ll probably want to have with you. We’ve got you covered and you can find all of our recommendations for what to bring to Typhoon Lagoon on our Ultimate Disney World Packing List .

What about towels at Typhoon Lagoon?

Beach towels can take up a lot of room in a suitcase. Instead of packing one we recommend renting one, and the plus for on-site guests is that towel rental is now complimentary.

Cost to rent towels at Typhoon Lagoon:

  • On-site Disney Resort guests: Free for resort guests
  • Offsite guests: $2 per towel

Does Typhoon Lagoon have lockers?

YES! Putting your valuables in a locker is the only way to guarantee they won’t walk away while you’re out having a good time on the slides.

How to rent a locker at Typhoon Lagoon

Nearby the lockers you’ll find electronic kiosks that you’ll use to process the locker rental. To use the kiosk you indicate the size of locker you want (regular or large) and then pay (with either cash or credit card). After you pay you are then allowed to select a personalized 4-digit PIN code that you will use to open your locker.

Locker rentals at Typhoon Lagoon are good for the entire day.

Cost to rent a locker at Typhoon Lagoon:

  • Regular (12.5″ x 10″ x 17″) – $10 per day
  • Large: (15.5″ x 13″ x 17″) – $15 per day

Life Jackets at Typhoon Lagoon

Life jackets are available free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis.

There will be multiple stations where guests are able to pick up a life jacket. If you encounter one that is empty, guests have reported having good luck finding plenty of life jackets at the exit/entry points for the lazy river.

Guest are allowed to bring their own Coast Guard-approved life jackets; however, for safety reasons the use of a personal life jacket is at Disney’s discretion so they may ask you to switch over to one of their vests.

Swimwear for Typhoon Lagoon

Water slides can be brutal on swimsuits, so if you’re planning on tackling any of them make sure your wearing a suit that will stay in place. Also, suits with any exposed metal of any kind (including rivets) or buckles are not allowed on the slides.

Swim diapers

As with all pools at Walt Disney World, if your child is still in diapers they must wear either plastic pants or swim diapers in the pool area.

Disney resort refillable mugs & water parks

Just like the resorts, the Disney Water parks also have refillable mugs. However, your resort mug won’t work at the stations in the water parks. You can either purchase a sticker (for roughly $8.50) that when affixed to your resort mug will activate the drink refill stations or you can buy a new mug (for about $12 plus tax).

The mugs/stickers are good for 1 day; however, you can bring your mug back on subsequent trips and save a few bucks by just purchasing a new sticker.

Surfing at Typhoon Lagoon

The wave pool at Typhoon Lagoon makes for the perfect place for both beginning and experienced surfers to hang ten.

For those with experience you can reserve a private session with 100 waves for you and 24 of your closest friends and family. Guests that book a private surfing session will pay a pretty penny, though. Prices for this experience start at $1100.00.

Looking to learn how to surf? You can do that, too. Typhoon Lagoon offers surfing lessons on select days before the park opens. This is a great opportunity in a controlled environment to learn the basics for surfing.

Surf lessons are $190 each and can be booked by calling (407) WDW-PLAY.

Should I visit Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon?

Can’t decide between the 2 parks? We’ve pitted them against each other in the ultimate Battle of the Disney Water Parks to help you decide which is the best option for your family.

Water Parks Gal

Touring Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon (One-Day Itinerary)

Typhoon Lagoon is one of the most popular water parks at Walt Disney World, and for a good reason. With its tropical landscapes, thrilling slides, and relaxing spaces, the park is an excellent place to enjoy a sunny Florida day.

While Typhoon Lagoon isn’t typically as crowded as the theme parks, touring the park can be a bit daunting. But with a little planning and learning your way around, touring becomes a breeze.

This article will provide a suggested one-day touring itinerary for Typhoon Lagoon. Our itinerary will include the best times to tackle popular attractions like Crush ‘n’ Gusher and Miss Adventure Falls.

Additionally, we’ll look at planning a little downtime into your day, handling inclement weather when touring, and overall how to make the most of a full day at Typhoon Lagoon.

Let’s get started.

Typhoon Lagoon Itinerary

Below is a look at our suggested itinerary for touring Typhoon Lagoon.

  • Crush ‘N’ Gusher (Ride twice if desired before lines form.)
  • Miss Adventure Falls (Ride twice if desired before lines form.)
  • Humunga Kowabunga
  • Storm Slides
  • Cross over the Mountain Trail to access other slides.
  • Gangplank Falls
  • Mayday Falls
  • Keelhaul Falls
  • Break for Lunch
  • Lazy River (Great place to let lunch digest.)
  • Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool for the afternoon (Here, you can rest or go out far and participate.)
  • For the last hour, experience an attraction you would like to do again.

Over the years, we’ve visited Typhoon Lagoon many times. We have found that this touring plan allows you to maximize your time in the park and experience all of the attractions.

Often, we tour the park together until lunch. Then, after lunch, we tend to make a loop around the lazy river.

From there, I’m ready to take a long afternoon break at the wave pool. In the meantime, my son likes to do a few slides independently.

So we’ll find a spot at the wave pool. He’ll know where to find me when he’s finished.

How it Works

When visiting Typhoon Lagoon, you’ll want to consider a few things. Those things include how many are in your party, who wants to participate, and who can participate in certain attractions.

You’ll want to consider that some attractions have height requirements and may not be suitable for everyone.

Related: Rides with Height Requirements at Typhoon Lagoon

Additionally, a few areas are geared toward toddlers and younger children. At some point, you’ll want to spend time in these areas if applicable.

To give you an idea of how our Typhoon Lagoon day works, let me walk you through it from start to finish.

We like to arrive at Typhoon Lagoon about 30 minutes before the park opens. That gives us time to park and gather our belongings.

We then enter the park, and our first objective is to rent a locker. However, if we see a character greeting guests with minimal wait, we’ll stop for a quick photo.

Stitch or Lilo greet guests throughout the day at Typhoon Lagoon.

After that, we rent a locker to store our valuables. I like to bring a cooler with enough sodas and water, so we don’t have to purchase anything extra.

However, refillable mugs are available for purchase at most dining locations. They are reasonably priced if you don’t mind keeping up with the mug all day.

After this, we throw on our water park shoes and head straight to either Crush ‘n’ Gusher or Miss Adventure Falls. These rides are located on the right-hand side of the park if you are facing the wave pool.

For reference, this touring plan circles the park counter-clockwise. So we won’t skip any attractions or double-back for anything until lunchtime.

Anyway, Miss Adventure Falls and Crush ‘n’ Gusher are located immediately next to each other. They are two of the most popular attractions in the park and often have relatively long lines.

Miss Adventure Falls is also the newest attraction at the park. It’s a family raft ride that is suitable for almost everyone.

undercover tourist typhoon lagoon

Crush ‘n’ Gusher is a water coaster with a height requirement. So if you have little ones in your party, they might have to sit this one out.

We tackle Miss Adventure Falls first and then head straight to Crush ‘n’ Gusher and ride it twice. At that point, if long lines haven’t formed for Miss Adventure Falls, we’ll nearly always ride it again.

These are our favorite rides in the park. Since they are so close together, you can usually get in a couple of rides first thing.

However, if you are at Typhoon Lagoon on a day where long lines are forming quickly, you’ll probably want to ride each of these once and then move on to other attractions.

We continue toward Humunga Kowabunga and the Storm Slides from this area. Humunga Kowabunga is the large thrill body slide at Typhoon Lagoon.

undercover tourist typhoon lagoon

You won’t get me on this one! Thankfully, there’s a waiting area at the bottom for those who want to sit this one out. And it is fun to see others enjoying the slide while you wait.

Next door to Humunga Kowabunga, there are three Storm Slides. These body slides are gentle and curve their way down the mountain.

I have found that I enjoy the Storm Slides much more than the inner tube slides. While the waterslide is relatively fast, you don’t feel like you’re going to flip out of a tube on the way down.

I don’t know about you, but I get a little frightened when my tube starts making its way up the sides of the slide.

After knocking out a round or two on each slide, we take the Mountain Trail over to the Falls attractions. The Mountain Trail is a lovely, scenic walkway that crosses Mount Mayday.

The trail starts immediately next to Humunga Kowabunga and ends near Gangplank Falls. You’ll cross a rope bridge over the lazy river on your way.

undercover tourist typhoon lagoon

If you prefer not to climb over the mountain, you can always hop in Castaway Creek , the lazy river, and get off at the Falls attractions. There’s also a level walkway in this area, along the inside of the lazy river.

At the end of the Mountain Trail, there are three Falls attractions. Gangplank Falls , a short family raft ride, usually has the longest line.

We will knock it out first and then do Mayday Falls and Keelhaul Falls . Depending on how busy it is, you might elect to ride these slides several times while you are in the area.

Additionally, Ketchakiddee Creek sits on the far side of these three attractions. If you have toddlers or smaller children, this water play area is a great place to take a break.

undercover tourist typhoon lagoon

At this point, we’ve covered all the rides at Typhoon Lagoon. And it’s probably time for lunch.

We’ll usually take the lazy river back around to the front of the park. I’ll get us a drink out of the locker and check our phones. Then, my son will grab us a table while I order food.

I like to pick something up from Typhoon Tilly’s, and then we’ll order him an allergy-friendly meal from Leaning Palms.

Related: Dining Options at Typhoon Lagoon

After lunch, our focus is more on relaxing. First, we’ll do the lazy river full circle, and then I’m off to the wave pool.

Related: Surf Pool at Typhoon Lagoon

undercover tourist typhoon lagoon

It is common during the summer months for a storm to pass through at some point during the afternoon. While this might put a damper on the day, I have found that a quick rain shower improves things tremendously at the park.

When storm clouds appear, many guests leave. I recommend checking the weather to see how long the storm system will last.

There tends to be a 30-minute or so period of rain on most of our visits before the sunshine returns. And the park tends to be pretty empty at that point.

If this occurs during your visit, head straight to any desired attraction when the pools re-open. You can usually ride anything with minimal waits multiple times.

Some of our best experiences at Typhoon Lagoon have been on days when a storm cleared nearly everyone out.

Additionally, you will have good luck touring Typhoon Lagoon later in the day, regardless of the storms. Water parks tend to empty earlier.

So many guests make dinner reservations for Disney Springs or one of the resort restaurants on their water park day. They’ll leave early to go back to their hotels to get ready for dinner.

My suggestion? Don’t do this.

While a water park day can be relaxing, you’re spending the entire day in the sun. And being in the water for an extended time tends to wear most people out.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t go out for dinner. But on our water park days, we’ll go back to our hotel and pick up a counter service meal or order to-go from a restaurant.

Then we’ll enjoy our meal at the resort’s pool and maybe even catch Movies Under the Stars. You probably won’t find us trekking all over Disney Springs after a full day at the water park.

So many people try to pack it all in when they are at Disney. I learned many years ago that I find joy in the little things.

My little thing at Typhoon Lagoon is sitting in a chair at the back of the wave pool. It’s so relaxing to watch the waves as they come and go.

The last thing I would want to do is leave that spot and have to rush to get ready for something else.

Don’t forget you’re on vacation.

Disney’s typhoon lagoon water park.

The back story to Typhoon Lagoon is the tale of a huge storm and a ship stranded high on a mountain by a giant wave – who knew!  This 56 acre tropical tanning zone is blessed with a big 4 foot surf wave that runs the entire length of a huge lagoon every few minutes. Nobody seems to mind the wait. On the contrary - they seem to enjoy the anticipation! Unlike the long lines that riders have to endure for the Tower of Terror, Space Mountain, and the like the wave pool's cool waters seem to help keep everyone mellowed out, even on especially hot and humid Florida afternoons. That's part of the appeal of Typhoon Lagoon - it's a great place lounge in the water, chill on a lounge chair and get some sand between your toes. . The immersive tropical theme and lush landscaping everywhere you look simply helps reinforce that.

Navigating The Park

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon is a special family-friendly water playground for you to explore.

Along with the rides and beach areas there are also 2 designated picnic areas. Coolers are allowed in the park. The only restricted items are glass and alcohol.

Download Map for Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon!

Mount Mayday

]Mount Mayday, is the towering ‘natural’ rock edifice located behind the giant surf pool. Its craggy features are the resting place for the beleaguered shrimp boat “Miss Tilly” as well as many of the waterfalls and slides. This man-made mountain not only provides launching areas for the water slides but also allows them to hide all the plumbing!

Humunga Kowabunga

More daring souls have to try the Humunga Kowabunga – brace yourself for the slide of your life as you hurtle 214 feet downhill at a 60-degree angle. Holy guacamole! Three side-by-side enclosed body slides provide high-octane thrills, chills and spills for big kids, teens and adults. You won’t know what’s coming next as you zoom downhill in the dark, dropping 5 stories in seconds. It’s guaranteed to make your swimsuit disappear and is consequently a popular gathering place for amused onlookers!

Storm Slides

Three terrific body slides with wonderfully evocative names like Jib Jammer, Stern Burner, and Rudder Buster send daring riders swooshing downhill from a height of three stories along twisting, winding channels which of course end up in a splash pool at the bottom.

Gang Plank Falls

Come get swept away by rushing rapids down a 300-foot-long waterslide aboard a 4-person inner tube. Big kids, teens and adults can all climb aboard together and whoosh through rocky caverns, and underneath drenching waterfalls and rustic wooden bridges on their slippery way down the mountain — all the while rotating one way then the other, and banking from side to side.

Mayday Falls

Big kids, teens and adults will enjoy the grittier thrills of this medium-wild ride that begins in the shadow of Miss Tilly , the shipwrecked shrimp boat that sits atop Mount Mayday. A little more intense than it’s neighbors this one swerves through caves, under bridges and past thundering waterfalls— definitely a rush!

Keelhaul Falls

On this one, you’ll feel the force of the whitewater rapids as you rush along a watery course lined with big boulders and lush palm trees. Keelhaul Falls is best described as a thrilling raft ride with a tropical twist, as it sends you careening through caverns and a waterfall before an exhilarating splash at the bottom. Look out for some surprises along the way including a watery spin or two.

Forgotten Grotto

Forgotten Grotto is an intriguing cave walkway that guests can take a stroll through – it winds through the inside of Mt. Mayday

Overlook Pass

Overlook Pass is a pleasant walkway allowing park visitors to venture across the slopes of Mt. Mayday, featuring small waterfalls.

Hideaway Bay

]Guests of all ages can take a pleasant break from the active water park attractions by taking advantage of the sandy white beaches. There are also ways to enjoy multi-person rafts on the Crush ‘n’ Gush & Miss Adventure Falls ride

Crush ‘n’ Gusher

Crush ‘n’ Gusher is a water ‘coaster’ themed, strangely enough, as a large tropical fruit-processing plant. Powerful jets of water propel riders in one- and two-passenger rafts uphill, while gravity sends them soaring through one of three tube slides.

Miss Adventure Falls

Miss Adventure Falls, is the latest family raft ride filled with drops, twists, and banked turns. It incorporates a scene with an animatronic character which issomething more typically reserved for a Disney theme park ride. Guests load into large, circular rafts and ride a conveyor belt to begin the journey. As they ascend the lift, they get to meet Duncan, a talking parrot, cracking wise aboard a wrecked ship. According to the ‘legend’, the parrot and the vessel both belong to Captain Mary Oceaneer, aka Miss Adventure. As they navigate the two-minute course, visitors can see some of the treasures that the famous explorer has amassed in her travels around the globe.

Sandy White Beach

Expansive clean white sandy beaches are a hallmark of any Disney water park and of course Typhoon Lagoon is no exception.

You can also chill out during your day of play in your own shaded private area called a Beachcomber Shack — complete with lounge chairs, a locker, a cooler and more! Renting one of these is a great way for your group to relax together  – they accommodate up to 6 guests and come with a variety of premium amenities including towels, cushioned seating, a locker, refillable drink mugs and a cooler stocked with ice and bottled water. In addition attendants are on hand to help you get the most out of the water park and to take food orders (separate dining charges apply).

Typhoon Lagoon

Typhoon Lagoon is the largest section of the park and has some unforgettable rides and attractions to explore. Everything from 6ft high wave pools to beginner areas for toddlers to enjoy safely. This area of the park also provides plenty of shaded areas to take a break from all the fun and sun. Also, enjoy your time on beautiful white sandy beaches and take in the sun.Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool

When ‘Miss Tilly’ blows her stack its time to either ride it like a pro or bob like a cork! Hear the thunderous “sonic boom” and the eager squeals of swimmers as the gentle waves in the Typhoon Lagoon surf pool become big kahunas. Look over your shoulder and feel the excitement build as a cresting wave heads your way. There’s no avoiding this one…..stand poised to paddle for all you’re worth. Then hang on as you’re swept ashore by forces rivaling those of Mother Nature.

Ahoy families with little ones – Bay Slides are specially designed to send toddlers down very gentle slopes that end in a secluded corner of the surf pool.

Blustery Bay

Blustery Bay is a take it easy type of zero depth entry tidal pool near the clock tower, adjacent to the big surf wave area and is surrounded by clean white sandy beaches.

Whitecap Cove

Whitecap Cove is a very relaxing zero depth entry tidal pool near “Surf Doggies”, adjacent to the big surf pool and is surrounded by clean white sandy beaches.

Learn to Surf

Hosted by “Craig Carroll’s Cocoa Beach Surf School” guests can sign up for a two and a half hour surf lesson before the park opens  – an additional costs involved but what a cool thing to do! Classes are taught by total pros on select days, so whether you’re starting from scratch or just want some pointers on your pop-up and stance, you’ll get the pointers you need!

Castaway Creek

Castaway Creek may just be one of the loveliest lazy rivers at any water park anywhere, with myriads of lush flowers and tumbling waterfalls lining its banks. The 2,000-foot-long river is also one the longest you will encounter and it will take you around  20 minutes to circumnavigate, including a stretch that takes you into a tunnel under Mount Mayday.

Ketchakiddee Creek

Ketchakiddee Creek is a very popular play area designed specifically for young children featuring small slides and fountains. There are lots of clever water features that spray everywhere including a tugboat and a mixture of whales and seals. A small sandy beach is also provided so there are some castle building opportunities!

The Essential Guide to Disney Waterparks

Update: Some offers mentioned below are no longer available. View the current offers here .

The average summer high temperatures at Walt Disney World in Florida are in the 90s -- with some nice humidity to boot. That make can make for steamy days at the theme parks, but there's a way to stay cooler while still enjoying the "Most Magical Place on Earth."

On your family's next trip to Disney World, consider spending a day or two at one of the Disney waterparks. With two waterparks encompassing 122 acres, a Disney water experience may be just what your family needs to break up a few hot days at the parks -- and they may be more affordable than you think.

Disney Waterpark Basics

Disney World features two entirely separate waterparks: Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. Each has an extensive Disney-esque backstory.

Blizzard Beach tells the tale of a ski village in Florida that only ran a year in which there was a freak snowstorm. The ski resort, however, remains intact with a "ski lift" to the waterslides, a toboggan race track and many other nods to its cold-weather roots. Typhoon Lagoon features the "ruins" of a shrimp boat marooned on top of "Mt. Mayday" and "debris" water features scattered about the park.

There are distinct differences in the two parks beyond their themes. (I'll break them down later in the post.)

Both Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach are on Walt Disney World property and are served by Disney buses. Unlike at the theme parks, parking is free at the waterparks.

Who Will Enjoy Disney's Waterparks?

I had some thoughts about the waterparks based on previous visits, but wanted an expert opinion before writing about them. With that in mind, I recently set my 15-year-old son and his friend loose to render their verdict. I'm really glad I did, as they pointed out details I hadn't considered.

Their bottom line recommendation: Take older kids to Blizzard Beach and younger ones to Typhoon Lagoon. My son even said, "Anyone under 48 inches will hate Blizzard Beach because there's nothing to do." "Nothing" was a stretch, as there are smaller slides, a kids' area, a wave pool and a large lazy river, but he has a point. Most of Blizzard Beach's marquee waterslides have a height requirement that most kids under 7 or 8 won't reach.

Typhoon Lagoon, on the other hand, has North America's largest wave pool, which almost any age can enjoy.

In my opinion, thrill seekers should head to Blizzard Beach and more mellow water lovers will prefer Typhoon Lagoon. I had fun at the Blizzard Beach lazy river, which takes close to an hour to navigate an entire lap, but I took a look at most of the slides there and knew they weren't for me. The ones at Typhoon Lagoon were more my speed.

When to Visit Disney's Waterparks

The waterparks are open from 10am to 5pm daily, with occasional weekend hours until 6pm (and some special after-hours events). There is one big exception: During winter, one park or the other is closed for refurbishment. Be sure to check Disney's schedule before making your plans. While a winter waterpark visit may not sound appealing, Disney heats pools to 82 degrees, so it is doable as long as you're prepared for the chilly entry and exit. That said, the waterparks can close during the winter when temperatures reach "Arendelle Frozen conditions" (Disney's words, not mine).

How to Save on Disney's Waterparks

The standard price for waterpark entry is $69 per day per person plus tax. Selected days offer a $5 discount. That price does include admission to both parks, so you could visit Blizzard Beach in the morning, have lunch off-site and try Typhoon Lagoon in the afternoon.

Use Discounted Disney Gift Cards: One strategy you can use to decrease costs is to purchase Disney gift cards at a discount and then purchase your waterpark admission with those cards.

Consider a Park Hopper Plus: Here's an option that could save you a bunch of money: Park Hopper Plus tickets. I used to think Park Hopper Plus tickets were a waste when my kids were younger, but then I looked again and realized something pretty amazing. When you buy a Park Hopper Plus ticket, you get not only the number of days you purchase but also an extra equal number of activities that you can use anytime during your trip. This adds huge value.

For instance, if you have a four-day Park Hopper ticket, it is good for four days in the parks as long as you use them within seven days of the first use. With the Park Hopper Plus add-on, which for a four-day ticket is as low as $20, you get eight uses out of the same ticket. For five bucks and change each, you get to choose four "fun enhancements" -- which could be waterpark visits, mini-golf games or actual rounds of golf.

Annual Pass May Offer Savings: Those with a Disney World annual pass can currently purchase up to four discounted waterpark tickets for just $49 plus tax. This is one of the ( many) ways that having a Disney annual pass in the family can be a money-saving idea.

undercover tourist typhoon lagoon

Another option that makes sense for multiple visits in a year is a Disney waterpark only annual pass . At just $139 (no matter what your age), the savings could add up quickly if you plan to make multiple visits in a 12-month period.

Use Points: While waterpark-only tickets may not be directly available on points, you may be able to use points to get the Park Hopper Plus tickets using some types of points . You can also use flexible points from a card such as the Barclaycard Arrival Plus World Elite Mastercard to "erase" the ticket purchase price from your statement. (Find out why families need the Barclaycard Arrival card in their wallets .) However, be careful with how you purchase Disney tickets if you want them to code as travel for the purpose of using points. Purchasing tickets through a site such as Undercover Tourist will code as travel, but ticket-only packages bought directly through Disney will usually as entertainment.

You can currently pick up an evening party ticket to H2O Glow Nights (no sun burns!) held on select nights at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon from Undercover Tourist for under $60, which would translate to less than 6,000 redeemed points per ticket from your Barclaycard Arrival card if you charged the purchase to that card.

Standout Rides at the Disney Waterparks

Blizzard beach.

Blizzard Beach's marquis slide is the Summit Plummet, which was until recently North America's tallest waterslide. You reach Summit Plummet via either a long climb or via the chair lift. The slide drops you 12 stories at a speed of up to 60 miles an hour. You read that right: The Summit Plummet projects you faster than many highway speed limits. I'll be honest, this one was a little too intense for me. The teen boys enjoyed Summit Plummet, but notably only tried it once.

That was not the case with the Toboggan Racers: an eight-lane track that pits you up against seven competitors. The kids did that one over and over again until they had both won a race.

I spent most of my time in Cross Country Creek, the lazy river. Pro tip: if you can't find an inner tube, hop in and float to the next stop. Disney stores a large stash of inner tubes behind a couple of the more secluded entry points. A complete laps of the lazy river took me almost an hour, which is definitely not a bad way to spend an afternoon.

Typhoon Lagoon

As I mentioned above, Typhoon Lagoon's attractions are a little more low key than those at Blizzard Beach, but there are still thrills to be had. The boys' favorite was the Humunga Kowabunga, which sends you down five stories, but in an enclosed tube so the ride is enjoyed in near-total darkness.

Typhoon Lagoon is all about the wave pool: the largest in North America. If you want to take it up a notch, you can register for surf lessons each day before park opening. The price is a steep $190, but breakfast and a photo session are included.

Minimize Lines at Disney Waterparks

Unlike at Universal Orlando's newer Volcano Bay waterpark , which sells Express Passes and features virtual lines, Disney waterparks do not offer FastPass+ bookings or options beyond old-fashioned waiting. But there are ways to minimize the lines. The first tip is to arrive 30 minutes before the water features' official opening as the locker rental, shops and services open at that time. That way, you're at the head of the line for "rope drop" with any necessary preparations already done. You could also come closer to the end of the day.

We were there during spring break so the waits got long for the biggest slides. The lines got to 20 to 30 minutes between noon and 2pm. When we got there first thing in the morning (which is why I recommend going early), we could walk on. The lazy river and kids area were always open, as was the wave pool.

The Disney waterparks, due to their relatively cheap annual passes, get a lot of locals in the morning who head home at lunch. If you follow this plan, be aware of afternoon thundershowers, which will not only empty the pools but also close the waterparks for 30 minutes beyond when the last lightning bolt is seen. (Here are tips for enjoying Disney during the rainy season .)

Waterpark Pro Tips

Lockers at the Disney waterparks are $10–$15/day and are pretty much mandatory if you want a safe and dry place to keep your keys, wallet and cellphone. The lockers are coded in a manner similar to a hotel safe. Towel rental is $2/day, but you can save by bringing your own. Beyond that, shady spots are numerous in both parks but tend to fill up quickly and look confusingly alike when you are wandering through the park trying to get back to your stuff. Trust me on this one: Bring a distinctive towel or other prop to help identify your chair from a distance and take a mental picture of nearby landmarks.

You also can save a ton of money by packing a collapsible cooler in your suitcase. Food and drinks are allowed in the waterparks with the exceptions of alcohol and glass bottles. You won't miss anything by skipping the food outlets. These are not the best restaurants at Disney World as they lean toward theme park standards, such as $10 hot dogs and $5 soft drinks.

The park outlets do offer a refill cup for $13 if you forget to bring your own. Another option is the "splash pack" which costs $44 and includes a meal, a refill cup, and a beach towel. The parks also sell adult beverages if you are so inclined.

Where to Stay

TPG has ranked the top 10 Disney World Hotels you can book using points. My advice would be to stay at one of the Disney Springs Hotels because they are in the sweet spot of both price and location. TPG ranks the Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista- Disney Springs Area as No. 1 (from 41k to 50k Hilton Honors points per night). If you've got a free weekend night certificate from Hilton, you can use it here on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays (pending availability). You can get a free weekend night certificate on your anniversary of holding the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card. If you have the Hilton Honors American Express Ascend Card, you can earn a free night certificate by spending $15,000 on the card in a calendar year. The information for the Hilton Aspire Amex card has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

I'm personally a fan of the Wyndham Lake Buena Vista , (from 30k Wyndham Rewards points per night ), which is also ranked toward the top of the TPG list.

Disney World's waterparks are worthy destinations in their own right, and both are definitely worth seeing if you're a Disney fan who likes mixing things up with dip in the water. You could get ennui-prone older kids on board with this activity, especially at the more thrill-oriented Blizzard Beach. Even better, you can visit them both in the same day.

Park will close for re-furbishment from November 5th 2023 . Walt Disney World's Typhoon Lagoon is the world's most popular water park, having welcomed 2.06 million guests in 2011. As its name suggests, the park is themed around a tropical paradise that has been struck by a typhoon. It features a variety of slides and pools that fit in with this backstory, which are incorporated into several themed areas: Hideaway Bay, Mount Mayday, Shark Reef and Typhoon Lagoon itself. The entire park is encircled by the Castaway Creek "lazy river", with the headline attractions being the Crush 'n' Gusher water coaster and the world's largest outdoor wave pool.

Park History

With Disney's River Country water park struggling to cope with the volume of guests at Walt Disney World, the resort opened the much larger Typhoon Lagoon in June 1989 (River Country subsequently closed in November 2001). It proved to be a massive success, and has continued to draw large numbers of guests ever since. The attraction line-up at the park has remained relatively static, although Crush 'n' Gusher was a major addition when it opened in March 2005.

Typhoon Lagoon Tickets in Orlando

What is Typhoon Lagoon, and how do you save money on Typhoon Lagoon tickets? What can you enjoy inside the theme park? How can you save money on food and supplies?

Disney World’s getting soaked! 2.27 million people visited Typhoon Lagoon in 2018, making the park the second most visited water park in the world.

If you want a fun and wet day at Disney World, you should consider visiting Typhoon Lagoon. However, you shouldn’t spend a fortune on Typhoon Lagoon tickets. You can save money and time once you know what to do.

Buying tickets at low prices a cinch. Click the book now button to get your Typhoon Lagoon tickets and read on for your comprehensive guide.

The Basics of Typhoon Lagoon Tickets

Typhoon Lagoon is one of two water parks at Walt Disney World, the other being Blizzard Beach. If you buy a standard one-park-per-day or park hopper ticket, you will not have access to Typhoon Lagoon. You have to buy a separate one-day ticket that lets you go to the park.

You can get a ticket that lets you go to both Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. You can also buy annual passes specifically for the water parks or an add-on that lets you go to the water parks and other activities. You cannot use a ticket for the water parks to enter other parts of Disney World.

As of July 2022, a ticket to Typhoon Lagoon costs $69 per adult and $63 per child between the ages of three and nine. You can get a ticket with blackout dates, meaning you cannot visit the parks during the peak summer season. You will save $5 per ticket if you select blackout tickets.

Blizzard Beach is currently undergoing renovations, so the park is closed. Disney World has stated that the park will be closed for the remainder of 2022, but Disney has not offered a reopening date.

Finding Cheap Typhoon Lagoon Tickets

You can get cheaper tickets for Typhoon Lagoon in a few ways. Read a guide on how to find cheaper tickets for Disney World and buy your tickets in advance. Prices tend to drop when children are in school, including during school holidays.

Disney World sometimes offers discounts for Florida residents who buy their tickets at the gate. If you show proof of your Florida residency, you may be able to buy a two-day ticket to the park for the same price as a one-day ticket. Check to see if Typhoon Lagoon is currently running a discount.

Active-duty servicemembers and veterans can apply for discounted tickets. The discount varies from year to year, so check Disney’s websites for specific details.

If you buy your ticket as part of a travel package, you may pay less for Typhoon Lagoon. If you’re looking to visit other parts of the resort or stay in a Disney hotel, you should consider buying a package instead of an individual ticket.

Some websites like Undercover Tourist let you buy cheap theme park tickets through them. However, you should read their terms before you buy from them. Make sure they are no hidden fees or strings attached to your purchase.

Preparing for Typhoon Lagoon

Typhoon Lagoon is smaller than the four main parks at Disney World. You can enjoy everything that the water park has to offer in a day, and you may have time left over to go somewhere else.

As you might imagine, the park is most popular on hot days in the summer. The weather at Disney World is warm during the spring and fall, so you can go during those seasons to beat the crowds.

The park has no indoor areas, so the weather can get hot and uncomfortable quickly. You should take breaks and drink water whenever you are feeling thirsty.

You should wear a bathing suit to the park, but you can bring spare clothes. Your swimwear must be family-friendly, and swimsuits with zippers and exposed metal are not allowed. You cannot wear jeans or wetsuits on some rides, though you can wear them while walking around.

You may also want to wear water shoes so you can walk around without hurting your feet. You can bring your own towel, or you can rent one from the park for $2.

Getting to the Park

Typhoon Lagoon offers free parking. However, the parking lot fills quickly, even during non-peak seasons. You should plan on getting to the park as soon as possible so you can get a spot for yourself.

If you’re staying at the resort, you can use a free bus to get between your hotel and Typhoon Lagoon. Hotels close to the park include Walt Disney World Dolphin Resort and Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort.

Typhoon Lagoon is also just down the street from Disney Springs. You can park your car at Disney Springs and then take a bus to the park.

Enjoying the Rides

The park is shaped like a circle, with the Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool in the center and the Castaway Creek around it. The Surf Pool can produce up to six-foot waves, which you can body surf on and swim through. Each day has its own schedule, so take a look at the chalkboard on the beach to see when the waves will come.

The Castaway Creek is a lazy river that travels around the water park. You can enter or exit the lazy river at one of five points, which can make it easy to get to attractions in different areas. You can enjoy some of Disney World’s best decorations as you go along.

If you have young children, they can enjoy the Bay Slides. They are reserved for children who are 60 inches or shorter, though you must accompany your children while they are waiting in line. They can slide down and land in a pool where you can meet them.

You and your older children can enjoy three intense raft rides. Keelhaul Falls is an inner tube ride that you enjoy by yourself while Gang Plank Falls is enjoyed in groups. Mayday Falls is the most intense of the raft rides, as you go downhill and through tight turns by yourself.

Other thrill rides include Humunga Kowabunga. You slide down an enclosed body slide at a 60-degree angle for more than 200 feet before landing in a pool. The ride can be scary for people who have claustrophobia or don’t like the feeling of falling.

Enjoying Other Attractions

Typhoon Lagoon does not have as many other attractions as other Disney parks. The Mountain Trail is an elevated walkway that lets you see the Surf Pool and other areas from up high. It’s a good place to unwind and get a closer look at the park’s decorations.

Ketchakiddee Creek is a play area for children under four feet tall. Your child can slide down mini slides and crawl through chutes while you sit and watch.

You can schedule private surf sessions in the Surf Pool. You can ride for up to three hours with an instructor and learn about different moves. You can book your tickets online, and you may be able to find sessions before the park opens.

You can rent a cabana, which you can use as a meeting or dining area. Cabanas are located throughout the park, but you should book one in advance of arriving at Typhoon Lagoon. Typhoon Lagoon currently does not have firework shows, parades, or character experiences.

Eating at the Park

Typhoon Lagoon offers several quick-service dining opportunities. You can order fish and chips, fish tacos, and shrimp lettuce wraps at Typhoon Tilly’s.

If you’re looking for plant-based meals, you can visit Leaning Palms. The restaurant offers rice bowls, salads, and jerk-seasoned tofu. You can also buy beer, wine, and cocktails at the restaurant.

Typhoon Lagoon also has a few places where you can get ice cream. Happy Landings Ice Cream serves sundaes, ice cream sandwiches, and fruit bars.

The park does not have full-service restaurants. You cannot use any meal plans you have at other Disney parks inside Typhoon Lagoon.

The park allows guests to bring in their own food and water, so feel free to bring a cooler with a packed lunch. You can store the cooler in a locker while you enjoy the rides.

Getting Typhoon Lagoon Tickets

You can get Typhoon Lagoon tickets through Disney’s website, but they can be pricey. Try to get discounts, buy tickets for non-peak days, and use third parties for cheaper prices.

You can enjoy all of Typhoon Lagoon in one day. All of the rides are free to use with your admission ticket, and the only attraction that requires money is surf lessons. You can bring your own food, water, and clothes to the park.

Guide to Discount Disney World Tickets (2024)

Our guide to discount Disney World tickets offers money-saving info, pros & cons of Park Hoppers, tips for the best deals on tickets for now through October 2025 at Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios & Animal Kingdom. Plus, price increase predictions, which is likely to happen this fall or holiday season. ( Updated March 20, 2024. )

If you’re wondering the best place to safely buy the discounted Walt Disney World multi-day tickets from an authorized reseller, we recommend Get Away Today , which offers an exclusive discount to readers of this site–enter promo code DTB23 at checkout for an extra $8 to $30 off per ticket! They have excellent deals on Central Florida theme parks, including Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, and SeaWorld Orlando in addition to Disney’s theme and water parks.

This is one authorized sellers we recommend ( see info about the other below ), with the highlighted one changing based upon which currently has the best pricing. All three offer exceptional customer service and added flexibility, even superior to what Disney offers directly (call centers are currently short-staffed, making speaking with a person at Disney “challenging” to say the least). These low prices coupled with Get Away Today’s “Best Price Guarantee” makes them our recommended ticket seller.

Before we get going, let’s start with the latest Walt Disney World ticket news–there are several ticket deals currently available. First up, there’s the  Discounted Florida Resident Discover Disney Ticket . This offers Floridians the opportunity to buy a 4-day ticket for just $59 per day. These tickets are valid for use from April 2 to September 28, 2024, with an advance park reservation.

Much more significant is the  4-Park, 4-Day Walt Disney World Magic Ticket . This is available to the general public and offers admission starting at $99 per day admission without requiring reservations from April 2 to September 22, 2024. The big limitation here is that there’s no Park Hopping and you can only visit each park once, which is Walt Disney World’s way of redistributing attendance away from Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios (the two busiest parks) and to EPCOT and Animal Kingdom (the least busy parks).

If you can get past those two limitations (our post above explains how to work around them–especially during Party Season), the 4-Park Magic Ticket offers tremendous savings. The exact amount of the discount varies due to date-based pricing, but we’ve found that it averages around $100 per person. You can buy this ticket directly from Walt Disney World, or available for an even deeper discount via Get Away Today !

Rounding out the deals, there’s a new offer for Universal Orlando that’s very similar to Walt Disney World’s 4-Park Magic Ticket. Enjoy four days of thrills at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure when you purchase Universal Orlando’s 2-Park Play 4 Days Promo Base Ticket , starting at $74 per day. With this, you can visit one park per day, upgrade to Park-to-Park tickets to visit multiple parks in the same day, or even upgrade to a 3-Park ticket to visit Volcano Bay.

undercover tourist typhoon lagoon

You should also be aware that free FastPass+ has been replaced by paid line-skipping at Walt Disney World. We cover everything you need to know in our Guide to Genie+ at Walt Disney World & Lightning Lane FAQ . This system is totally different from its predecessor and can be overwhelming. Once you get past that rather steep and sometimes counterintuitive learning curve, it can be leveraged to your advantage.

You can only purchase Genie+ on a day-by-day basis during your Walt Disney World vacation. The latest wrinkle is that Genie+ now has per-park pricing, which is more expensive at Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Not-so-coincidentally, we only recommend buying Genie+ for Magic Kingdom (almost always), Disney’s Hollywood Studios (usually), and EPCOT (sometimes). We seldom recommend purchasing Genie+ at Animal Kingdom–there’s a reason why it’s cheapest there; it’s usually unnecessary.

With so many different park ticket options, this might already seem overwhelming. In this WDW park ticket guide, we present the pros and cons of different tickets so you can make an informed decision about which options are best for your family. We’ll break down everything you need to know about the complexities of Walt Disney World tickets.

We sort through the different options and give you recommendations on what types of tickets are best for you, plus where you can save money on Walt Disney World tickets. (If you’ve come looking for info on discount Disneyland tickets, you’ve come to the wrong place– but we do have an article with Tips for Saving Money on Disneyland Tickets , too .) By the end of this post, you’ll know way more than you ever thought there was to know about park tickets!

With that out of the way, let’s start with the latest ticket news & rumors…

2024 Ticket Price Increases

undercover tourist typhoon lagoon

Typically, Walt Disney World raises ticket prices in February or October–sometimes both. Thus far in 2024, ticket prices have not increased, nor did they go up last October for regular tickets. Instead, the company raised rates on just about everything else, and also introduced per-park and date-based pricing for Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes, which effectively amounted to an indirect increase to the normal price of admission.

The good news is that prices for current tickets haven’t increased since December 2022, which is the first time in the 15 years we’ve been tracking prices when there was not an annual increase. The bad news is that Walt Disney World has already increased ticket prices for 2025 . But the good-within-bad news is that, unlike normal, this did not apply to tickets for 2024. It was a really weird move, as ticket price increases normally take effect immediately.

There’s a chance that Walt Disney World raises prices in October 2024, but we’re skeptical. Annual Pass prices will probably increase then, but not regular admission. It would defy logic to increase prices for 2025 in Winter 2024…and then wait until only 3 months are left in the year to increase prices on the remainder of 2024 dates. Not only that, but the big ‘price increase day’ always results in a wave of negative headlines, and Disney usually does everything at once to avoid dragging out the bad press.

What’s more likely is that prices go up again in early 2025. Walt Disney World is once again tweaking things with Lightning Lane pre-booking, and our guess is that will require changes to admission options. With that, price increases seem likely, which might be why Walt Disney World has not been nearly as aggressive in increasing prices.

undercover tourist typhoon lagoon

If the last three years have taught us anything, it’s to expect the unexpected. Subscribe to our free email newsletter for all of the latest updates as we hear more rumors or official announcements about ticket prices.

Regardless, if you have a Walt Disney World trip planned for now through October 2025, we recommend buying tickets sooner rather than later to lock-in current prices (beyond the scope of this post, but we’d advise doing the same with your hotel room). There will likely be one price increase between now and the end of 2025, with 2 price increases in that timeframe being a possibility.

With that said, this is not as imperative as it used to be. A couple of years ago, Walt Disney World was raising price twice annually, meaning that you could ‘beat’ as many as 3 price increases by buying tickets early. That amounted to locking-in huge savings, but Disney has since (thankfully) slowed down on its price increases. There’s still zero downside to purchasing tickets in advance–but there’s also not as much upside.

Where to Buy the Cheapest Disney Tickets

undercover tourist typhoon lagoon

As we mentioned at the beginning, to save money on multi-day Walt Disney World tickets, we recommend buying from Get Away Today , which is an authorized discount Disney ticket broker that typically has the lowest prices on legitimate park tickets. You can order tickets for use now through October 2025.

Another excellent ticket seller we recommend is Undercover Tourist . These two typically compete with each other on prices, and are usually within a few dollars of one another. Which is better often depends upon the ticket type and when you’re searching. (Like airfare, ticket prices fluctuate, especially as the various reputable sellers try to beat one another on pricing.)

undercover tourist typhoon lagoon

After purchasing, you’ll receive confirmation codes for My Disney Experience via email, which enables you to easily link the tickets to your My Disney Experience account. This also means that the tickets are compatible with MagicBands, which you’ll receive with your Walt Disney World hotel reservation; you can also purchase special edition MagicBands in the parks.

There aren’t many Disney ticket sellers that are actually legitimate, so be careful if you find a deal elsewhere. The sellers we mention in this article are the ones that have the best reputations and offer the biggest discounts. If you find a better deal somewhere else, well…you know what they say about when something sounds too good to be true!

undercover tourist typhoon lagoon

Authorized discount Disney ticket brokers are great ways to save money on park tickets over gate prices, but not every third party ticket broker is reliable and trust-worthy. Most places selling discount Disney tickets are scams . Buying tickets on eBay or Craigslist is about as good of an idea as buying Louis Vuitton purses on a street corner.

Disney tickets are non-transferrable–they are tied to your fingerprint once partially used. If you get burned by these sellers with a partially-used or counterfeit ticket, Disney won’t have sympathy. You’ll have to pay full price for tickets at the park gates. Not exactly the best way to start the day on a Disney vacation!

undercover tourist typhoon lagoon

The good news is that there are several legitimate, authorized Walt Disney World ticket sellers that can be trusted. In addition to Get Away Today , we also recommend Undercover Tourist . Both are highly reputable and offer great customer service. (Beyond this trio, there are other trustworthy third party sellers, but we can’t vouch for any of them.)

If you’re comparing prices, remember to compare apples to apples: Disney prices don’t include the Florida 6.5% tax, whereas prices from the sellers we recommend do include tax into the final price you pay . Sorry bold that all, but we get so many comments from people who miss that, and wonder why the discounts aren’t as good as promised. Also make sure you’re comparing Park Hopper tickets to regular tickets or not. Lots of people make mistakes in not comparing the same tickets to one another.

Additionally, you might be eligible for discount tickets through your employer or a membership program like TicketsAtWork that can save even more than the alternatives. The only downsides are that some of these tickets require more advance notice for processing, and that what you receive is a ticket voucher (it still can be linked to My Disney Experience); you will need to pick up the actual ticket when you arrive at Walt Disney World.

Moving on, let’s take a look at which type of ticket options are best for you…

Which Tickets to Buy?

undercover tourist typhoon lagoon

Sometimes people ask which ticket is our favorite for first-time visitors to Walt Disney World, and it really depends upon how long you’re visiting. In our Walt Disney World Vacation Planning Guide , we recommend most first-time visitors take a 6-8 trip.

Assuming you are going this route, you probably won’t spend every moment in the park. You’ll want a rest day in the middle to spend recovering poolside, and maybe a shopping day (or morning) at Disney Springs. With that said, we recommend buying a ticket that is 1-2 days shorter than the duration of your vacation–unless you’re visiting for 4 days or fewer, in which case you should purchase a ticket for every day. Always get at least a 4-day ticket. Ideally, get nothing less than a 5-day ticket.

Meaning, if your vacation is 8 days, we recommend the 6-day or 7-day ticket. If you are visiting for 6 days, get the 5-day ticket. In our experience, a 6-day Walt Disney World vacation is about the sweet spot for first-timers. That means either a 4-day or 5-day ticket is going to be a smart bet for most people reading this. (If you have more time, that’s excellent!)

Are Park Hopper Tickets Worth it?

undercover tourist typhoon lagoon

The Park Hopper add-on allows you to visit multiple parks in the same day. You can bounce around the parks and maximize your time in the parks. Some guests can skip the Park Hopper option: particularly those with small children and those who won’t stay out late.

On the other hand, Park Hopping can be really beneficial if you want to revisit favorite attractions or head over to a certain park for the evening for dinner. With the exception of Magic Kingdom, you won’t need to spend multiple full days in any park, and the ability to bounce around is a great solution allowing you to spend additional partial days in the other parks.

undercover tourist typhoon lagoon

Another benefit of the Park Hopper option is spending more hours per day in the theme parks. Since each park has different opening and closing hours, getting a Park Hopper is a good way to extend your day (particularly in the off-season when parks close earlier) or spend more time in Magic Kingdom. Magic Kingdom often closes later than the other parks, so you squeeze a couple more hours out of day by starting your day in Animal Kingdom (for example) and heading to Magic Kingdom once Animal Kingdom closes.

If you’re staying in an eligible on-site Walt Disney World resort, you’ll also potentially need the Park Hopper option to take advantage of Extended Evening Hours. This perk is incredibly advantageous, as crowds are usually low during these nighttime hours. If you don’t buy the Park Hopper option, you’ll need to start your day in the park offering Extended Evening Hours in order to take advantage. See our Guide to Extended Evening Hours at Walt Disney World   for taking advantage of this perk, eligibility, and more.

undercover tourist typhoon lagoon

Because of these two things, we generally recommend purchasing the Park Hopper option. While it does cost more, if you’re buying multiple day tickets, you might be surprised to learn that the extra cost is insignificant. Currently, a discounted 7-day Walt Disney World Adult Park Hopper Ticket will cost around $650 after tax, with some dates costing more and some costing less. Obviously, that’s a lot of money.

However, compare it to a 1-day Park Hopper ticket directly from Disney, which can cost over $180 after tax. For less than the price of three 1-day tickets, you can purchase a 7-day discounted Park Hopper. That 7-day ticket works out to being less than $95/day!

Other multi-day tickets offer similar savings, so be sure to look at the prices of other multi-day Walt Disney World tickets and do some comparison shopping to see just how much you can save. Walt Disney World advertises that “the more you play, the less you pay per day” and this is definitely true.

What About Park Hopper Plus Tickets?

undercover tourist typhoon lagoon

The Park Hopper Plus ticket option (formerly “Water Park Fun & More”) offers everything included with Park Hopper Tickets mentioned above, plus access to Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach water parks, ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, Disney’s Oak Trail Golf Course, and Winter Summerland or Fantasia Gardens mini golf.

With Park Hopper Plus tickets, you are eligible for the same number of “Plus” admissions as the number of days on your ticket. Meaning that if you have a 7-day Park Hopper Plus ticket, you also have 7 entrances the water parks, mini golf, etc. (Be mindful of operating schedules, as not all of these options are open year-round.)

Whether this ticket is right for you really depends upon whether you want to do any of the parks beyond the 4 main theme parks. If you want to do one of the other things even once or twice, you come out ahead to purchase the Park Hopper Plus Tickets. We love both Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach, and enjoy both of the mini golf courses (albeit less so than the water parks) and recommend this ticket option to anyone who will be spending 6 days or more at Walt Disney World.

What About the Water Park and Sports Option?

undercover tourist typhoon lagoon

The Water Park and Sports Option is available as an add-on to select Walt Disney World theme park tickets for $70 plus tax. This option allows guests to visit one theme park each day, plus various water park or sports experiences that same number of times.

The Water Park & Sports Option is valid at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon or Disney’s Blizzard Beach water parks, ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, Disney’s Oak Trail Golf Course, FootGolf at Disney’s Oak Trail Golf Course, Disney’s Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf, or Disney’s Winter Summerland Miniature Golf. (Again, pay attention to operating schedules, as not all of these options are open year-round.)

Basically, this ticket is the non-park hopper version of the aforementioned Park Hopper Plus ticket option. The analysis for the Water Park and Sports Ticket Option is identical to the Park Hopper Plus, but for those who only want to do one theme park per day. We generally favor the Park Hopper Plus option as it offers great flexibility and the upgrade cost to that is insignificant, but that’s just us.

Affiliation Discounts

undercover tourist typhoon lagoon

If for some reason you don’t want to buy discounted Disney tickets from Get Away Today or Undercover Tourist , there’s a possibility you qualify for some other form of discount. The most common discounts are: Florida resident, military/department of defense, corporate or “club” discounts, Disney Vacation Club, and sometimes Walt Disney World ticket discounts for Europeans.

Of these discounts, military Disney ticket discounts are typically the best, followed by AAA discounts. AAA discounts are only offered through local offices and tax isn’t included in their price quotes. Note that Disney ended its relationship with AAA, so there are no additional perks for buying Disney tickets through AAA anymore.

AAA discounts typically are not as good as the prices offered by the discount ticket brokers, but military or department of defense discounts are always better. The “Stars and Stripes” promotion (only available to select members of the armed forces and department of defense) will usually annihilate what is offered by third party discount ticket brokers or AAA. This promo isn’t always offered, so call Shades of Green at 888-593-2242 prior to ordering tickets to see whether it’s available for your stay.

undercover tourist typhoon lagoon

Another option available to some people is TicketsAtWork. This is a members-only site that partners with certain corporations to offer company employees exclusive discounts and special offers for theme parks, attractions, Broadway shows, special events, hotels, concerts, and movie tickets. In other words, Tickets at Work is a “perk” that’s available only to employees of certain corporations.

Tickets at Work most definitely is legitimate. Unfortunately, we cannot offer a price comparison to Tickets at Work because we don’t work for companies partnered with Tickets at Work, nor do we know anyone who does. Anecdotally, we’ve heard that in some cases, Tickets at Work offers prices that are slightly better. In other cases, their prices are worse. We’ve also been told that shipping can take 2-3 weeks with Tickets at Work, which could be a deal-breaker if you’re trying to make reservations in a hurry. Check with your company’s HR department to see if your company is a Tickets at Work partner.

Now, let’s cover one other possible Walt Disney World park ticket options…

Florida Resident Ticket Discounts

undercover tourist typhoon lagoon

If you live in Florida (and have proof of residence–DVC membership does not count), there are occasionally discount 2-day to 4-day Walt Disney World ticket offers from January until April and Summer through September each year during times when attendance is historically light. For Floridians, these are the best deals of the year–better than anything else on this list.

The current Florida resident ticket deal is discussed at the top of this post. The downside of this deal is that it’s only valid Mondays through Fridays, but the upside is that there’s a discount  at all  during the popular Christmas season. Many years, there’s nothing at all this time of year!

What About An Annual Pass?

undercover tourist typhoon lagoon

Walt Disney World resumed new Annual Pass sales late last month. Everything you need to know about buying an AP is covered in our  Walt Disney World Annual Pass FAQ . All tiers of APs (Incredi-Pass, Sorcerer Pass, and Pirate Pass, and Pixie Dust Pass) are still available for purchase. However, Walt Disney World has already warned that tiers are likely to sell out soon. Note that unless you’re a Floridian or DVC member, you’re only eligible to purchase the Incredi-Pass.

This AP can make sense if you’re taking at least two trips to Walt Disney World in the span of 365 days. Some fans use APs for this specific purpose, taking week-long trips during the Halloween or Christmas season each year, and essentially putting one of those trips at the beginning of the window and another at the end of the window. (For example, doing the second week of December 2024 and the first week of December 2025.)

If you’re doing two week-long trips, the Incredi-Pass will work out in your favor. You’re looking at 7-day tickets that will be over $700 each, adding up to more than the cost of the Incredi-Pass on their own. The story is similar if you’re taking 3 shorter trips in a 365-day stretch. Let’s say you’re doing three long-weekend trips of 3-days each. Individually, those tickets would cost you over $460 each, totaling more than the cost of the Incredi-Pass.

undercover tourist typhoon lagoon

Where the math gets complicated is for those planning two trips in a 365-day stretch with a combined total of 10 or fewer days. In this scenario, the cost of your tickets will actually end up being around $75 less than an Incredi-Pass. However, the AP also offers discounts on merchandise & dining, which alone will easily add up to $75 saved over 10 days in the parks. Beyond that, it opens up access to the aforementioned superior resort discounts or, if you won’t use those because you’re staying off-site, free parking at the theme parks.

So either way you slice it, two trips totaling at least 10 days over the course of 365 days is the likely breakeven point for the Incredi-Pass. That’s going to vary from person-to-person, though. We’ve heard from people who could make less work and others who couldn’t justify APs until 11 days.

However, that’s more or less the general rule. If you’re traveling more than that, it’s easy to justify Walt Disney World APs. Less than that, and it becomes much more difficult. If it’s a close call, we’d recommend purchasing passes. The money-saved via discounts and other perks, such as freebies and access to exclusive events like ride previews, does add up and is difficult to account for in your initial calculation.

undercover tourist typhoon lagoon

Hopefully the above info helped you determine which Walt Disney World park ticket you should buy and how to save money on those tickets. If you still have some questions, here are some general rules:

  • Thanks to very good discounts, our top recommendation for Walt Disney World is the 5-day to 7-day Park Hopper ticket, all of which provide excellent savings.
  • We recommend the Park Hopper option for most people, but if you definitely won’t visit more than one park per day, you can save additional money by skipping the Park Hopper option.
  • By purchasing via an authorized ticket broker, you can make park reservations ahead of time. If you buy tickets once you arrive to Walt Disney World, you’re at a disadvantage in two ways: you pay more for tickets and you cannot make park reservations in advance.
  • Do not consider an Annual Pass unless you will visit Walt Disney World for roughly 15+ days in a 365 day window, or will take multiple shorter trips.
  • If you are planning a vacation and definitely going to Walt Disney World before October 2025, it’s always best to buy tickets as far in advance as possible to lock-in current prices and avoid future increases.

It’s important to know that my suggestions are based on our preferences, and they may not work for you. It’s really best to read through this and then apply it to your own circumstances by looking at your own schedule and preferences, and determining what type of tickets are best for you.
