Applying for a Schengen visa for the Netherlands in Saudi Arabia

If you will be visiting the Netherlands for a maximum of 90 days – for a holiday, to do business or to see family, for example – you can apply for a Schengen visa. Follow the steps below to apply in Saudi Arabia.

Step 1: Check before applying

Before starting your application, check whether you need a visa for the Netherlands and, if so, where you can apply for it .

Where can I apply for a visa?

To apply for a Schengen visa in Saudi Arabia go to the VFS Global application centre in Al Khobar, Aramco Dhahran, Jeddah or Riyadh. You can only submit an application there if you live in Saudi Arabia.

Step 2: Gather the documents you need

You need several documents to apply for a Schengen visa. Which ones you need depends on your purpose of travel.

Family member of an EU/EEA national or Swiss national?

If you are travelling with a family member who is a national of an EU/EEA member state or Switzerland, or you’re travelling to visit that family member, you may be eligible for free Schengen visa facilitation.

Step 3: Make an appointment

Once you have all the documents you need for your Schengen visa application, you can make an appointment. You can apply for your visa up to 6 months ahead of your trip. Apply no later than 45 days before your trip.

How do I make an appointment?

• Making an appointment is free of charge. Do not make an appointment with an intermediary because they will charge you money.
• If you are applying for visas for multiple people, make a separate appointment for each person.

If you have a diplomatic passport, make an appointment online at the Netherlands embassy in Riyadh .

Can someone else submit my application for me?

You must appear in person at your appointment to submit your application, even if you’re under 18.

You don’t need to appear in person to submit your application if:

• you have applied in person for a Schengen visa within the past 5 years (59 months), and:
• you submitted a photo with that application, and:
• your fingerprints were taken for that application (only applies if you are 12 or older).

If you meet all 3 conditions, you can have someone else submit your application for you. The appointment must be under the name of the person submitting your application.

If you are not certain whether VFS Global or the embassy has your fingerprints on record, you should submit your application in person. Neither VFS Global nor the embassy can check this for you.

How can I change or cancel my appointment?

To change or cancel your appointment, contact VFS Global in Saudi Arabia .

If you have a diplomatic passport and made an appointment at the embassy, you will receive a confirmation by email. The email contains a link that you can use to change or cancel your appointment.

Step 4: Go to your appointment

Go to your appointment, and bring all the documents on your checklist from step 2 with you, plus the checklist itself.

What happens at my appointment?

At your appointment you:

• submit the documents that are on your checklist, together with your passport
• provide your fingerprints (only if you are 12 or older)
• answer questions about your trip
• pay the visa fees
• indicate whether you want to collect your passport (with visa affixed) or have it sent to you
• receive a reference or tracking number to track the status of your application

You’ll usually find out within 15 calendar days whether your application was successful. Sometimes it can take longer and may take up to 45 calendar days.

How can I track the status of my application?

When you submit your application at VFS Global you’ll receive a reference number that you can use to track the status of your application online .

If you have a diplomatic passport and submitted your application at the embassy, you’ll receive a tracking number that you can use to track the status of your application online .

Step 5: Collect your passport or have it sent to you

You will receive an email once your application has been processed. The email won’t say whether your application was successful. You can collect your passport or have it sent to you. If your application was approved, the visa will be affixed to a page in your passport.

Having your passport sent to you

If you choose to have your passport sent to you, you’ll discuss at your appointment how to arrange this.

You will have to pay the postage charge yourself. Arrange that the courier will get your card with the track & trace number. With this card, the courier can pick up your passport at the embassy and send it to you.

Having your passport sent to you is at your own risk.

Collecting your passport

If you choose to collect your passport, you’ll discuss at your appointment when you can collect it. You can also have someone else collect your passport for you.

If you collect your passport yourself, bring the following with you:

• a valid form of ID
• the proof of payment provided by VFS Global

If someone else collects your passport for you, they must bring the following with them:

• a signed letter from you authorising them to collect your passport

If you have a diplomatic passport and submitted your application at the embassy, email [email protected] to make an appointment to collect your passport. Take into account the embassy’s opening hours and closing days .

With your Schengen visa you can travel to the Netherlands or another Schengen country. You must show the visa upon departure and arrival.

Saudi visa issuance process goes digital; Applicants must visit VFS centre

The employment, visit and residence visas for Indians can be processed through an e-visa system where immigration authorities extract the details through a QR scan code.

Jeddah: In a significant development, Saudi Arabia has begun to implement e-visa for Indians who are arriving from India.

The new system that eliminated the traditional visa sticker on passports came into force on May 1. Now only the QR code is to be read to extract the visa details. However, visa information is sent to the registered email ID of visa holders and the same can be printed on an A-4 size paper to have a hard copy to prove they have obtained a visa.

The new system is part of Vision 2030 that enables digital governance in a gradual manner. The e-visa initiative came into effect on May 1 in India and other seven countries.

The new system will reduce the time in processing and bring transparency. More importantly, it will weed out the existing travel agent system that acts as an intermediary to endorse Saudi visas in New Delhi and Mumbai.

However, it is now mandatory for any person who is applying for a Saudi visa to visit VFS Global – visa processing centres – as visa applications would be processed through them only.

There is an influx of visitors from across Telangana into Saudi Arabia, who arrive in Saudi Arabia without having to step out of their homes as their visas are processed by travel agencies. However, now it’s mandatory to physically visit the VFS centre, explained NRI activist and AP NRT coordinator Muzzamil Shaikh.

All receipts for payment of Machine-Readable Visa (MRV) fees issued before October 1, 2022, expired September 30, 2023. There will be no extensions of fee validity. Applicants must have scheduled an appointment or submitted an interview waiver application before September 30, 2023 to avoid paying a new fee. If you paid the MRV fee on or after October 1, 2022, you must have scheduled the appointment within one year of your MRV payment date. Please note that the interview itself does not need to take place within one year, but an interview appointment needs to be made in the system, even if it is scheduled months into the future. Furthermore, applicants using MRV fees paid before October 1, 2022 to book an appointment are cautioned not to attempt to change their appointment dates on or after October 1, 2023. Doing so will result in forfeiture of both the original appointment slot and the MRV fee receipt. The applicant will be required to pay a new fee and submit a new application package.

In 2020, the U.S. Department of State amended its regulations concerning B visas. U.S. consular officers overseas will deny any B visa application from an applicant whom the consular officer has reason to believe is traveling for the primary purpose of giving birth in the United States to obtain U.S. citizenship for their child. Schedule an Appointment

A) for short stay (stay up to 90 days).

Applications for short stay visas are accepted at the Visa Application Centre through prior appointments.

The service charge fee must be paid online and Visa Fees has to be paid at the Visa Application Centre at the time of application submission.

Each individual requires a separate appointment and will submit a separate application. For example, if a family or group of five is applying for visas, then 5 appointments must be made.

Appointments are in high demand; applicants are requested to arrange well in advance of their visa appointment.

If the payment is unsuccessful, a new appointment can be scheduled only after 1 hour.

Rescheduling an appointment:

You are allowed to reschedule your appointment twice and up to 2 working days prior to your scheduled date.

Cancelling an appointment:

If you wish to cancel your appointment, the service charges cannot be refunded. Appointments can be cancelled only 2 days prior to the scheduled date. In order to make a new appointment and a service charge payment will be applicable.

Terms and conditions

The service charges are non-refundable in the following situations and a new appointment will have to be scheduled:

• If you miss your appointment on the scheduled date
• If you are delayed for your appointment and cannot be accommodated on the same day
• If your application is incomplete as per the guidelines and the application cannot be accepted
• If you are unable to proceed with your appointment as you have selected the Visa Application Centre location incorrectly.

Applying for a Turkey visit visa from Saudi Arabia is quite simple, as the  Turkish visa requirements for Saudi Iqama holders are more straightforward.

Note: People who have a valid visa from one of the Schengen Countries, USA, UK, or Ireland, can apply for a Turkish e-visa .

Requirements for Turkish Visa

The following are the requirements to apply for a Turkey visa for a Saudi Iqama holder.

• Passport with 6 months validity + copy.
• Previously obtained Turkey, Schengen, UK, and USA visa copies (if any).
• Digital Iqama with 3 months validity + print.
• Exit re-entry visa covering the period of the trip.
• 2 photographs (5X5).
• Travel Insurance policy with $60,000 coverage (to be provided by VFS).
• Salary Certificate approved by the Chamber of Commerce.
• Bank Statement for the last 3 months. (explained below)
• Return flight ticket/reservation.
• Confirmed Hotel Booking.
• A print of the Saudi National Address .
• COVID-19 vaccine certificate from Sehaty .
• Marriage Certificate if applying with the family.
• School registration letter for the current academic year if applying with school-going children (given below 👇).
• Muqeem Paper .
• GOSI Certificate .
• Turkish Visa Checklist signed by the applicant.

Bank Balance

There is no requirement for the minimum balance to be maintained in the bank statement to apply for a Turkey visa from Saudi Arabia. However, one should keep at least SR 10,000/applicant minimum balance for 3 months.

Schedule VFS Appointment

Once you have arranged all the required documents for the Turkey Visit Visa, you can take the VFS appointment. To do this,

• Register as a new user on the VFS website.
• Fill out the entire form.

Pay the Turkey Visa fee.

You must pay the fee at the end of scheduling the appointment. Unfortunately, the visa fee Saudi Iqama holders must pay for a Turkey Visit Visa is way more than other countries.

The visa processing time for a Turkey visa from Saudi Arabia is around 30 days . You will receive your passports and Turkey’s stamped visa at your address. 

Turkish Visa Validity

• Turkish Visa Validity: 90 days.
• Duration of Stay: 30 days.

After stamping a Turkish visa on your passport, you can travel within 90 days. The duration of stay on one trip would be 30 days.

Refund money for rejected visa

If the Turkish Embassy rejects your visa, you can claim a refund of the fee paid. Just download the below form and submit it to the same VFS office. The refund process will take 1-2 months.
