7 Reasons You’ll Love Visiting (and Revisiting!) Victory Brewing Company

Victory Brewing Company’s craft beer expertise is well known — its 1996 opening heralded a local craft beer revolution. But, thirsty beer-lover, you don’t have to be an expert to check out (and, frequent) Victory’s newly refurbished hallowed halls. There’s something for all, from the novice to the pro — and everyone in between.

Curious? Find out where you fit on this list of top reasons to visit … and revisit … Victory’s flagship Downingtown Brewery and Taproom location.

1. Approachability

Victory Brewing Company

Beer is so much more than what you remember from the keggers of yore. Beer’s come a long way, and that can be intimidating — but, not at Victory! Craft beer newbies will find a wide spectrum of beer styles to help you dial in your new favorites. Victory’s knowledgeable bartenders and servers are there to help with a taster or two, so you can try before you buy. Pro tip: A flight is the best way to taste Victory.

2. High Standards

Victory Brewing Co.

For the craft-beer aficionado who wants to know about a beer’s specific hops and malts, and where they were sourced — someone who can discuss aromatics, mouthfeel, temperature and the nuances of taste, without breaking a sweat — the incredibly high standards at Victory won’t disappoint. Join like-minded seekers of flavor and quality, and quaff a Victory small-batch or seasonal release — and be sure to ask about the brews available only at Downingtown!

3. Family-Friendly Focus

Parents, you’re working hard, day in, day out. You deserve a break, and that includes a top-quality craft beer and a scratch-made meal that someone else cooked for you. Bonus: Your kids are more than welcome at Victory, too! In fact, the spacious Downingtown Brewery and Taproom has been welcoming families for 22 years. Your kiddo’s car seat nestles perfectly into a high chair, and the kids’ menu will delight even the fussiest youngster. Make a quick stop in the game room to mix things up, and you’re in for a fun family outing.

4. Great for Big Groups

Victory Brewing Co.

Downingtown’s better-than-ever Beer Hall morphs into a private event space. Configure it as you please to entertain, host a business meeting or mount a charitable event — the flexible space has served as a venue for all of the above since the Beer Hall was built a decade ago. It can hold up to 80 guests for a more formal, seated event (think annual meeting presentation, making full use of the audio/visual capabilities) or 100 for a more casual, milling about the room event (think anniversary party or networking mixer). You’ll pack the hall, because all events feature Victory’s cuisine and — of course — beer.

5. Vegan and Gluten-Free Options

We get it: You want to enjoy Victory’s vibe but you’re a vegetarian, can’t consume dairy or have sworn off gluten. (Gluten-free in a brewery? Ask about the local wine selections!). Victory’s friendly, caring staff has your back. By request, they’ll work with Victory’s equally friendly, caring kitchen team to customize your meal. The freshly made fare is delicious, even when you request they “hold this” or “eliminate that.”

6. Date-Night Delight

Victory Brewing Co.

Victory is an affordable night out, whether you’re going on a first date, celebrating an anniversary, or just enjoying a well-earned outing without the kids. Victory’s observant staff can spot a date night from 50 paces, and they have all the right answers to make it memorable. Is your date a newbie? See above. A craft nerd? See above. Someone with dietary restrictions? See above. Pro tip: Extra-impress your date by using the Nowait reservation app so you’re queued up for a table before you even walk in the door.

7. Events, Events, Events

Victory knows how to put the “special” in special events. Watch for fun events that herald limited releases and holiday shenanigans. Enjoy Throwback Thursdays: July 26 (Sunrise Weissbier); Oct. 4 (Zeltbier); and Nov. 21 (Scarlet Fire). All events are guaranteed to be fun and tasty, but November is a no-brainer: It’s the ever-popular day-before-Thanksgiving party that’s wildly popular with locals. Pro tip: Get in line early to get your seat for beer and breakfast and to snag brews to go. Another insider tip: Join Victory’s eblast list to be among the first to know about year-round must-attend good times.

So, grab your favorite people and head on over to the local spot that’s been wowing customers with stellar service and inspired craft beer for more than two decades. If you’re a regular, you know that. If this will be your first time, prepare to be dazzled.

Victory Brewing Company – Brewery Tour

Tim Brady

  • September 1 August 21

In this follow up video from our trip to Downingtown PA and our visit at our beloved Victory Brewing company we take a tour of the brewery with co-founder and brewmaster Ron Barchet .

From the hop freezer (which smelled so wonderful I wanted to move into it) to their lab, to their crazy bottling line (which in true form of the folks who built a 20 beer automated growler filler , is designed to operate with just 3 employees) we get a glimpse into Victory’s incredibly streamlined operations.

We enjoyed our trip to Victory Brewing Company and really love their beers.  We anxiously await their introduction in Vermont.   Until then, we will have to settle for rationing the Golden Monkey we brought back with us!  Cheers from all of us at Here for the Beer !

Wow that was great! Victory is my favorite, and what a great video tour. Spread the word. Great job you guys!

Not sure about western NH, but we have plenty of Victory here in Portsmouth (and we love it too!). Have you tried taking a trip across the border?

Like I said, I have no idea what the distribution within NH is, but I bet you could find some close to Brattleboro.

Great video guys, Victory is only about an hour from me, I love Hop Devil. Mmmmmm, Hop Devil

Nice video! Loving the wild devil. Have some more brewery tours lined?

Thanks – us too! We are heading to Denver next to check out some of the beer out there during the GABF. Should be awesome…

Begun by childhood friends who met on a school bus back in 1973, the Victory Brewing Company's microbrewery can be considered one of the "old-timers" in Pennsylvania's craft brewing movement, with its operations daing back to February 1996. Victory, the company's widely acclaimed brewery and restaurant, now serves fans of fully flavored beers with innovative brews that meld the best of European ingredients and technology with American creativity.

Sampling Delicious Beers at Victory Brewing Company in Southeastern PA

Inside the taproom at Victory Brewing Company

There are hundreds of incredible craft breweries in Pennsylvania , but few are larger or as renowned as Victory Brewing Company.

Victory Brewing Company started in 1996 in an old Pepperidge Farm bakery in Downingtown, Pennsylvania. Over the next 25 years, Victory would grow into one of the largest craft breweries in the United States, merge with popular New York brewery Southern Tier, and open multiple locations in the southeastern corner of PA.

While many great breweries continue to pop up throughout the state, Victory Brewing continues to rank among the best thanks to its classic beers and its inventive seasonal offerings.

Inside Victory's taproom in Kennett Square, PA.

During my travels around southeastern Pennsylvania, I’ve had a chance to visit all three of their Chester County taprooms (Downingtown, Kennett Square, and Parkesburg). They are also slated to open a new taproom in downtown Philadelphia sometime in 2021.

And, for those in western PA, they also have a prominent spot at their sister company’s (Southern Tier) taproom in downtown Pittsburgh near the stadiums.

At each of these taprooms, you can sample a variety of beers from Victory, all of which, from my experience, are excellent.

Hamburger at Victory Brewing Company in Chester County PA

Interestingly, despite all of their branded taprooms being located near each other, they each offer slightly different food and beer offerings, though they also share many similar items on both menus.

That means that there are some beers and food items that you can, for example, only get at their Kennett Square brewpub.

This gives visitors an incentive to take time to visit each of these great spots when exploring the Philadelphia suburbs .

The entrance to Victory Brewing Company in Downingtown, PA

While I’ve visited all three taprooms in Chester County over the course of my travels, the one in Downingtown is the one I’ve visited the most and the most recently.

During my visit on a surprisingly busy weekday evening, I had a chance to once again try some of their delicious beers and food.

The Victory taproom in Downingtown features a large indoor seating area with both table and bar seating. In one corner, you’ll see a bit of the brewing equipment present at this site.

There is also a large shop area where you can pick up a variety of their beers to take home or some Victory Brewing merchandise.

As for their beer, Victory seems to be best known for their IPAs and sour beers, and their offerings at the brewery tend to reflect this as the menu is heavy with these styles. However, for those that enjoy other types of beer, the beer list is extensive enough that you should be able to find at least one or two offerings to suit your palette.

Of course, if you can’t decide, you can always opt for a flight of beers to give you a chance to try several of their offerings.

Glass of beer Victory Brewing Company in Downingtown Pennsylvania

For me personally, my three favorite beers from Victory are HopDevil IPA, DirtWolf Double IPA, and Festbier, an Oktoberfest style beer offered in the last summer and fall. That being said, during my last visit, I had the chance to try several other beers here, and you really can’t go wrong with any of their offerings.

As for their food menu, the options here are expansive and good quality but don’t vary wildly from the offerings you’d expect to see at a brewery.

Fish and chips at Victory Brewing Company in Downingtown PA

On my most recent visit, I opted for the fish and chips, which was quite delicious and definitely paired well with their beers. I’ve also tried their pizza, burgers, and their soft pretzel, all of which were very good.

For those looking for a chance to learn more about how Victory makes their beer, take a visit to their Parkesburg location. Here, you can take a self-guided tour down a hallway in the brewery to learn more about how Victory makes their beer. There are even a few windows where you can look into the brewing space.

The self-guided tour at the Victory in Parkesburg, PA

Overall, Victory Brewing Company is one of the most popular breweries in southeastern Pennsylvania , and, after visiting their locations in southeastern Pennsylvania many times over the years, it’s not hard to see why.

So, the next time you find yourself exploring Chester County, make sure to save time to check out one of their great breweries across the county.

Find out more about Victory Brewing Company on their website .

Sorry to burst your bubble… while Victory is popular, they are mediocre in their home region. They are VERY IPA heavy and rarely create anything special or out of the ordinary. They have tap houses and food – so does Iron Hill Brewery (many more tap houses actually) and produce far more interesting brews on a regular basis. Within miles, there’s Wrong Crowd Brewery, with huge diversity in styles and tastes, and then there’s Artillery Brewery which has hands down the most interesting brews of ANY brewery I’ve ever visited – from sour self-generating yeast from a Philly cemetery to 200+ year old yeast unearthed and reconstituted, and a black IPA that is amazing to name just a few. No, I’d say Victory is just another beer company anymore.

I never claimed they were the best or even my personal favorite, but they do produce some good beers, and the article notes that their menu is very IPA (and sour) heavy. If you like Iron Hill, that’s great, but I feel like they are the epitome of what you described: okay beers that are rarely standout or inventive. Eitehr way, creativity seems to suffer a bit when breweries get really big.

Victory Brewing Co. is one of the few breweries in Center City. With a long bar where there’s no bad view of the TVs and super long wooden tables, it’s a fun place to sit and sip on any of their 30+ on-tap beers. Another brewery rarity is that they have a massive outdoor rooftop that’s filled with bright yellow chairs, a few mini plants, and a large u-shaped bar. If you’re hungry, you can go for some pillowy Bavarian pretzels, buffalo wings, and double cheeseburgers while people-watching on the Parkway.

The Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul can be seen from the bar window at Victory Brewing Co.'s taproom.

Downingtown -bred Victory Brewing Co. just opened the taps on its Center City Philadelphia brewpub at 1776 Ben Franklin Parkway, a top-to-bottom redo of the sad-sack TGI Fridays on that spot since 1990 .

The 14,000-square-foot space, done up in industrial concrete, has expansive indoor seating on two levels, and its roof deck with an outdoor bar overlooks the Parkway from City Hall to the Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul.

Some numbers: 330 seats, a 7bbl brewing system, one scratch menu (there’s a magnificently crusted chicken pot pie), two indoor bars, one outdoor bar, and one gift shop.

The taps are pouring beer and cider from Victory-related brands Southern Tier Brewing, Sixpoint, and Bold Rock Hard Cider, plus spirits from Southern Tier Distilling.

The deal was announced two years ago. Not only did the pandemic get in the way of opening, but construction took longer than anticipated. A swimming pool, covered up by flooring during the making of the Friday’s more than three decades ago, had to be removed.

Initial hours are 4 to 10 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Victory Brewing Co. Announces Monkeyfest Experiential Tour

VBC Juicy Monkey VBC 9813 Edit |

Victory Brewing Company continues to dominate regional craft beer through the impact of their Monkey franchise and its ability to reach new drinkers. Golden Monkey, Victory’s flagship brand holds rank as the #1 Belgian Ale in the U.S. while its sour sibling, Sour Monkey, ranks as the #1 Sour in the U.S. Last year’s launch of Berry Monkey proved the franchise shows no signs of slowing as it quickly became a top 5 launch across the entire craft segment.1 To harness the passion consumers have shown for these unique, fun-loving brands, Victory will partner with Wasserman Next Gen on a 5-city Monkeyfest experiential tour as part of their “It’s Monkey Time” campaign.

VBC_Juicy_Monkey_VBC_9889-Edit

The “It’s Monkey Time” campaign spotlights the many ways Victory fans enjoy and embrace the Monkeys. Meant to capture that 5-pm Friday feeling any time, and anywhere, drinkers are encouraged to enjoy the big energy, big flavor yet accessible and easy-to-drink varieties that the Victory Monkeys offer. The Monkeyfest multi-city tour is a natural evolution of Victory’s campaign, meant to bring a unique experience to existing and new drinkers. Included in that fanbase are those part of the Monkey Crew – Victory’s inner circle fan club that boasts hundreds of active advocates who drive influence in their local markets through Monkey Crew member ambassadorship.

On Saturday, May 13th in Atlanta, Georgia, the Monkeyfest tour will commence with plans to travel up the East Coast to Brooklyn – providing consumers with the chance to join a one-of-a- kind Monkey branded experience at some of Victory’s most valued partner venues. The tour will hit major Victory markets before the finale at Victory’s Parkesburg, PA Production Brewery & Taproom to wrap up summer. More details on location specifics to be released in the coming weeks, with high level timeline below:

  • –  Atlanta on May 13th at Boxcar
  • –  Charlotte on May 20th at Charlotte Beer Garden
  • –  Cleveland on June 4th at Wild Eagle Saloon
  • –  Pittsburgh on June 10th at 5 Iron Golf
  • –  Brooklyn on June 23rd at TailGate BK

To add to the excitement of Victory’s Monkeyfest Tour, Victory recently announced the launch of the newest Monkey to their crew – Juicy Monkey Hazy Imperial IPA. Set only to hit limited markets right now, those cities on the tour (Atlanta, Charlotte, Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Brooklyn) are among some of the few to welcome Juicy Monkey in both cans and draft, providing something special and limited to nearby consumers. Loaded with notes of fruit juice, 9.5% ABV and ripe for the picking, Juicy Monkey is packin’ a punch as he joins the crew. Upfront pineapple and orange aroma meet Sabro, Lotus, and Sultana hops to drop a Hazy Imperial IPA that will have you on Monkey Time in no time.

“Our Victory Monkeys are accessible and approachable offerings that can bring new consumers into craft who may be intimidated by preconceived notions of what craft beer is ‘meant to’ taste like. If we were asked to define the Victory Monkeys, we’d characterize them as big in personality, big in flavor, and boasting a big 9.5% ABV, all while bringing easy-drinking to a variety of styles. This balance can be hard to strike but the Victory Monkeys deliver time and again and we’re excited to continue extending the Monkey franchise in a thoughtful but creative way to reach all drinkers – not just tradtional beer drinkers.” – Kelly Irvine, Victory Brewing Company Brand Manager
