The Vision of Voisin descends upon the Mullin: Museum hosts world's largest collection of Voisins

Vision de voisin.

Gabriel Voisin was that rarest of automotive figures, someone who comes along once in a lifetime—the cars he built left an indelible mark on today's automobiles. The Mullin Automotive Museum's latest exhibit, La Vision De Voisin, honors Voisin —architect, aviator, racer, and engineering maestro.

“Most people don't even know how to spell Voisin,” said Peter Mullin, whose passion for the Art Deco Movement resulted in one of the most fascinating and beautiful collections of European cars of the 1920s and '30s ever assembled. “But when you do a little bit of homework, Voisin was one of the great prewar marques, done by a man who was an inventor, an unbelievably curious man, and who never quit dreaming about what he was going to do tomorrow rather than what he was doing yesterday.”

The company Avions Voisin may have built over 10,000 cars during its short life, but only 50 of those cars still exist. Mullin's collection of 17 models is the single largest grouping of Voisins ever assembled, ranging from the marque's beginning to the very last voiture Voisin ever built, a C30 S Coupe. Mullin painstakingly acquired these cars one by one—“bird by bird,” he says—with the help of the preservation group, Les Amis de Gabriel Voisin, and the surviving members of Voisin's family. The exhibit opened in November and will run until April 2013, and includes artifacts, drawings, and memorabilia from Voisin's dramatic life.

To most Europeans, the Wright Brothers may have bested Voisin to powered flight, but they were a myth; Kitty Hawk might just as well have been on a different planet. Voisin brought the accomplishment of powered flight to Europe and sparked an arms race of innovation between early pioneers: farther distances, faster records and greater heights, all in more sophisticated machinery.

Then the war broke out.

World War I was good to Voisin financially—in those bold, reckless days of nascent aviation, his biplanes were used in everything from ground attacks to bombing runs to being the first to shoot down enemy aircraft . Voisin gave the royalty to build his airplanes to France for free, because he felt that would be for the good of the nation. (A replica 1907 biplane will be shown at the Mullin; a real one hangs at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum.)

But Voisin was horrified by war and the destruction caused by his airplanes, and when the Great War ended he turned his attention to the motor car. His new company, Avions Voisin, was founded at a time when the automobile, much like the airplane industry, was ready to to rise into the realm of unparalleled technological advancement. But Voisin's cars took a while to enter into the realm of Art-Deco-cool, of sans-serif fonts and long, sleek hood ornaments—compare the earlier C1 and C3 limousines, otherwise unremarkable-looking touring bodies on imposing chassis. But underneath was evidence of genius—a genius who had the foresight to complement his creativity with brilliant engineers such as

Voisin favored the sleeve-valve engines built by Charles Knight in America, which were first sold to Citroën, then passed to Voisin when the former deemed the engine too luxurious. It would be one of many intertwined affairs between the two marques. Voisin refined the Knight engine to be silky smooth with magnificent quietness, adding to the car's mystique. ABS was a purely aviation technology first invented by Voisin himself, then adapted from airplane to car. Voisin's extensive use of aluminum bodywork caught up with him during the next conflict: most of the 1,795 C14 models were salvaged for their aluminum during World War II, rendering Mullin's model at the museum a unique proposition. Later Voisins had delicate struts appending the fenders to the grille, minimizing fender shake over France's rough roads and recalling the wing struts of biplanes. The bizarre grey upholstery, recalling arctic camouflage or dazzle paint , was recreated on the Pebble-winning C-25 Aerodyne, using the same loom from the 1930s.

“Voisin usually designed his own cars and bodies,” said Mullin, “so if you wanted a Voisin, you got his body and his own car. But he loved Figoni et Falaschi. So he allowed them to buy a chassis and design their own body. They're both C27s, and the Paris Exhibition car, bought by the Shah of Iran—looks like a Type 55 Bugatti.”

Avions Voisin seemingly leapfrogged over the Depression by crafting its finest work during the world's bleakest days. The C25 Aerodyne, with which Peter Mullin won Best of Show at Pebble Beach, lives up to its airplane name with a beautifully rational fastback, bullet-straight headlights mounted way down low somewhere, and that tall, gorgeous winged hood ornament rising out of the grille like a miniature Eiffel Tower. The Louis Dubos -built C30 Cabriolet is elegant in a classical American way, even slightly cartoonish—it was so stunning that the Nazis cruised around occupied Paris in it, having deemed it too special to destroy.

Voisin wanted to make the C28 perform better, but couldn't fit a more powerful Knight engine—it displaces just 3.3 liters . So he turned to the black art that was aerodynamics. The result is the astonishing C28 Aerosport, the car that, in true French tradition, was genuinely ahead of its time, soaring toward the realm of the modern car. The fenders meld into the body. The headlights rise up above the bumpers—what little thin strips of chrome they already are. The windows are cut into such gun slits that they make the contemporary Camaro's narrow glasswork resemble the Sydney Opera House. The front grille smacks of Gothic architecture. Where the Talbot-Lago T150C is curvaceous, the Aerosport is rational; where the Bugatti Type 57 Atlantic is a bit phallic, the Aerosport is slab-sided and dramatic, and therefore utterly, supremely wonderful. Only four were built—just one survives.

We asked Brittanie Kinch, the curator of the Voisin exhibit, what she finds so compelling about Voisin. Young and wildly enthusiastic, she learned more about Voisin in her time working alongside Peter Mullin than, presumably, most Gallic boulevardiers ever knew.

“I've really gotten to know this guy personally, even though I'm never ever going to meet him,” said Kinch. “He's a unique character who struggled constantly with the fact that he wasn't really noticed for being one of the earliest fathers of aviation. A lot of people don't know about that. So this is our opportunity to introduce Gabriel Voisin in his own words, in the context of this incredibly innovative, striking Art Deco period.

“Every single one of those pages in all of his manuals is the personal story of Voisin. He thought that everything needed to be drawn meticulously by the engineer himself in order to correctly visualize what the design was. And if you didn't do that, then you were failing as a designer.”

Voisin chose the Scarab of Khepri as one of its symbols, flanked by the winged Icarus.

Voisin was a Renaissance man, a humanist at heart. He was terrible with money and went broke multiple times. When he was up, he was up ; when he was down, his friends and associates saved him. After the war, and out of a need for affordable, basic transportation, he built the Biscuter—as dramatic a departure from his earlier creations as the Smart Fortwo differs from the 1971 Citroën SM Présidentielle Décapotable . And at least he had the good sense to let Lefèbvre go when he saw that Avions Voisin wasn't doing so well and Gabriel couldn't afford to keep him—Lefèbvre, of course, went on to change the world with the Citroën 2CV, which just happens to bear more than a design and philosophical resemblance to the earlier Biscuter.

Voisin wasn't envious of his protégé's success. He was proud, in fact: How could he be mad at a man whom he called his “spiritual son”? Avions Voisin went out of business soon after World War II, but Voisin went on to consult and design for many other companies until his death on Christmas Day 1973—always thinking, conjuring and asking questions.

“It's a very interesting life of a classic dreamer, inventor and creator,” said Mullin, “and he didn't pay a lot of attention to whether his checkbook bounced. Classic right-brained activity.”

Perhaps Voisin's head was, rather appropriately, in the clouds.

1923 French Grand Prix at Tours: Voisin

In previous chapters, Gijsbert-Paul Berk has described the background of the epic 1923 French Grand Prix. For the next few installments, he will describe a few of the major entrants, including Bugatti, Sunbeam, Fiat and below, Voisin. Ed.

In the early twenties Voisin was a relative newcomer in the auto industry. But Gabriel Voisin (1880 –1973) had already made his mark as an aviation pioneer and a creative designer of aircraft. From 1914 till the armistice in 1918, the Voisin factory in Issy-les-Moulineaux had become one of France’s major manufacturers of military aircraft.

When these regulations were published by the ACF at the end of December 1922, Voisin exploded in anger, because his company was already preparing the same cars for the 1923 season, shaving away some kilograms here and there and changing the shape of the mudguards to improve their aerodynamics. He wrote a sarcastic ‘open’ letter to the ACF, denouncing its attitudes to progress in automobile design. In the same letter he announced that he would not start in the touring car race, but would instead engage four cars in the Grand Prix de Vitesse.

This impulsive reaction was of course complete ‘stupidity’, as Voisin would later confess in his autobiography Mes 1001 Voitures . Because the race was scheduled for the beginning of July, this gave them just five months to build four racing cars from scratch. Voisin did not even have a two-liter engine!

Fortunately Marius Bernard – his engine expert – was already working on a new 1,328 liter four-cylinder engine for the Voisin C4. It would have a bore of 62 mm and a stroke of 110 mm. Gabriel Voisin decided that by adding two cylinders, with the same bore and slightly reduced stroke, they could make a six-cylinder with a cubic capacity of exactly 1,984 liters. The trio of Voisin, Bernard and Lefebvre (who as project manager was responsible for the construction of the car) knew that their competitors – whose engines had poppet valves and overhead camshafts – could count on higher revs and thus more power than their own sleeve valve machines could deliver. The only way to compensate for this handicap was to reduce to a minimum both the weight and aerodynamic drag of their racers. Voisin and Lefebvre – both experienced aircraft designers – used every trick in their book.

The C6 Course or ‘Laboratoire,’ as it later became known, was designed like the fuselage of an airplane. It had no conventional chassis, but was in fact one of the earliest racing cars with a monocoque construction; a box made up from a light ash frame, covered with aluminum panels and a flat aluminum under shield. This structure, with some steel and wooden reinforcements, supported all the mechanical parts such as the engine, transmission and front and rear suspensions. Its width was dictated by the requirement that the cockpit should offer enough space for the driver and a riding mechanic. The tail was long and tapered with the rear wheels inboard, within the contours of the coachwork. The whole body looked somewhat like an aircraft without wings and the layout with its narrow rear track resembled more that of a Morgan three-wheeler than of a modern – by 1923 standards – racing car.

Lefebvre and his mécanos worked day and night to get four cars ready for the race, systematically testing and improving every detail. They mounted magnesium pistons and provisions were made to keep the temperature of the cylinder heads down and to prevent the sleeve valves from seizing, even if this meant greater tolerances and therefore an increase of oil consumption. Engine cooling was a thermo-syphon system aided by a small water pump driven by a tiny air propeller above the radiator. Bench testing showed that, with the two big Zenith 36 HK carburetors, some 80 bhp was available at 4800 rpm.

However, Gabriel Voisin instructed the drivers not to exceed 4000 rpm, which limited maximum power to 75 bhp, resulting in a top speed of just under 175 km/h. Not bad at all – but not enough! The Voisin were outclassed from the start by the limited power of their engines. Voisin must have realized this during the practice sessions, but he did not for one minute consider withdrawing his entry. That would have been unlike him. It seems that Gabriel Voisin was rather pleased with the achievement of André Lefebvre, his chief engineer and ‘spiritual son’. In his memoirs he wrote: “Thirteen of our competitors, some of them the greatest names in the world of speed, had bitten the dust and we were amongst the survivors.”

With hindsight, it becomes clear that the 1923 ‘Laboratoires’ were in many details a try-out for a next generation of touring sports cars that Gabriel Voisin had in mind for the 1924 Grand Prix the Tourisme.

Thanks for a very insightful read on the fabulous Voisin that were entered in the French GP. Many years ago while building a die cast aluminum model of the Laboratories I asked Peter Helck about the racer. He immediately responded telling me that one could tell from quite a distance that it was a Voisin coming due to the plume of smoke following it. He was there for the race with his new bride Pricilla in France. Stan Smith

The Voisin C-27 Aérosport is a rare and unique classic that was designed and produced by Avions Voisin: a French Car Manufacturing brand established by Gabriel Voisin. At first, he was interested in producing aircrafts, and he was pretty successful in his profession. He built over 10,000 airplanes, but the number of cars he made was fewer. Gabriel Voisin decided to make an extraordinary and unique design, which he displayed in the 1934 Paris Motor Show , and the vehicle they showcased was the Aerodyne.

The History Of Voisin And Its Models

World War I made the airplanes' market decrease, and Gabriel Voisin decided to shift his interest to automobiles. He was an excellent designer, but he was new to the world of cars, and starting from scratch was not easy. So, he asked companies like Citroen to sell some of their patents to give him a head start, and this is how he took his first step into the world of automobiles. Voisin did not take long to make his first car and soon he started garnering attention because people were captivated by his unique car designs .

As he was from the world of aviation, he understood how making the vehicle more aerodynamic could significantly increase performance .

By the time Voisin entered the game, big players had established themselves. As Gabriel Voisin's automotive company was very late to join the market, he had to learn a lot about the world of automobiles in a brief period. Most of the companies were struggling due to The Great Depression. A lack of investors coupled with a shortage of primary raw materials like aluminum and low sales figures made it even more challenging to survive. Voisin introduced few models, such as the C-14, in 1928.

All Voisin vehicles were lightweight because of the materials used. Then came the year 1929 when the C-18 was displayed in the Paris Motor Show, and it came with the most powerful V12 engine of its time that displaced 112 HP.

The C-27 Aérosport A Rare Gem

It’s been 86 years since the C-27 was born, and still, it's considered one of the most beautiful classic cars in terms of design and aerodynamics. Taking a glance at the car, the pentagon windows and the manually adjustable rooftop are intricate designs. It was a premium car, and luxury was in its essence. The interior featured a very minimalistic white and black pattern design that was very comfortable and easy for people to sit in. The C-27 was pretty similar to the previous C-25 and C-26, but looked smaller and sportier.

Its rarity is confirmed by the fact that Voisin made only 2 of these cars because of his financial burden. The previous models failed to sell in good numbers, but the C-27 was a true beauty. It came with a 3.0 L Knight engine that featured Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and produced a total of 104 HP and was cable of reaching 95 MPH. These were good numbers for the time and, considering the car weighed over 2,500 pounds.

The first-ever C-27 was made for the Shah of Persia that was created by his order. In 1937, Gabriel lost control over the company, and the final car made by Voisin was the C-28. Unfortunately, the company was taking risks in the target markets and Voisin's cars were an ultra-luxury that came with a hefty price tag. The Voisin C-27 Aérosport could have gone on to be a successful premium car of that time, but the company was in the wrong place at the wrong time and couldn’t penetrate the market.

Voisin C28- 1936

Gabriel Voisin was a major manufacturer of airplanes during World War I. The end of the war saw him with a large fortune and an equally large factory, but a very small market for airplanes. In 1919, he decided to become a car manufacturer and acquired a ready-made engine design–a 3969cc sleeve-valve four which had been considered and turned down by Citroën as unsuitable for mass production. Voisin remained faithful to the sleeve-valve principle for the rest of his career as a car maker. Voisin built lightweight cars using techniques learned in his years as an aircraft designer. The type C28 “ambassade” body design was inspired by the art-deco period and was the last model Voisin was personally responsible for.

In 1906, the brothers Gabriel and Charles Voisin created Avions Voisin, which dealt with the production and sale of fighter planes during World War I in Issy-les-Moulineaux on the outskirts of Paris. Their planes were highly innovative for the time, being built entirely of aluminum, allowing the Voisin brothers to gain experience with lightweight alloys.

After the conflict ended in 1919, the company shifted its focus towards automobiles, a market with great prospects. Utilizing their aviation knowledge and employing the notable designer André Lefèbvre who would later design the Traction Avant, the 2CV, and the DS, they introduced their first automobile named the C1 – Limousine. It was in 1923, however, that one of the company's most astonishing projects took shape, the C6 Laboratoire with a monocoque chassis, something absolutely innovative. The car's goal was to race in the French Grand Prix at Tours and challenge Ettore Bugatti's Tipo 32 Tank, a recognized celebrity in the sports world. Ironically, neither won as their excessive pursuit of aerodynamics ended up making the cars as fast in a straight line as they were difficult to maneuver in curves.

Voisin’s automobiles were aimed at an upscale, innovation-oriented clientele who often came with famous names such as Josephine Baker, Rodolfo Valentino, and the architect Le Corbusier. The brand's ingredients were rationality, thanks to the perfect distribution of weight and lightness, derived from the experience of using aluminum as well as attention to detail, such as the choice and sophistication of fabrics for the interiors. The Voisin saga lasted twenty years. In 1939, the start of World War II marked the end for Avions Voisin, which suspended production and later came under state control but would no longer produce automobiles.

On February 5, 1880. French aircraft and automobile designer Gabriel Voisin was born. Voisin was the creator of Europe’s first manned, engine-powered, heavier-than-air aircraft capable of a sustained (1 km), circular, controlled flight. During World War I the company founded by Voisin became a major producer of military aircraft. Subsequently, he switched to the design and production of luxury automobiles under the name Avions Voisin .

Gabriel Voisin was born at Belleville-sur-Saône ,  France.  The son of a foundry owner, he built a steamboat at a young age with his brother Charles Voisin, who was two years younger. When his father abandoned the family his mother, Amélie, took her sons to Neuville-sur-Saône , where they settled near her father’s factory. Their grandfather, Charles Forestier, took charge of the boys’ education with military rigor. When his grandfather died, Gabriel was sent to school in Lyon and Paris where he learned industrial design, a field in which Voisin claims to have been exceptionally gifted.

First Gliders

At the end of the 1890s, the Voisin brothers became interested in aviation and designed gliders – for a short period in collaboration with the aircraft pioneer Louis Blériot .[ 2 ] Gabriel Voisin studied architecture and mechanical engineering in Paris. Out of interest in flying, he attended lectures by Ferdinand Ferber in February 1904, which led to a collaboration with Ferber and Ernest Archdeacon in which he flew a glider . In the spring of 1904, he completed several glides of up to 25 seconds duration.

Aéroplanes G. Voisin

As early as 1905, Gabriel Voisin founded a company together with Louis Blériot to manufacture aircraft. However, the two fell out after a few months over how to proceed. The split with Blériot led to the founding of his own aircraft factory, Aéroplanes G. Voisin , in 1906, with his brother Charles as pilot and Gabriel as designer. The company was initially engaged in the manufacture of gliders, but they soon became powered.

The First Successful European Aircraft

In 1907, the Voisin Standard type was created with the construction of two machines, one for Henry Kapferer and one for Léon Delagrange . The aircraft built for Delagrange also became known as the Voisin-Delagrange I , as the Voisin brothers placed the owner’s name prominently on the rear of the fuselage. The typical Voisin biplanes were derived from this March 1907 aircraft built for Delagrange. The basic elements of this machine, with its biplane framework, elevator located forward of the cockpit, and pusher propeller drive, were similar to the Wright brothers ‘ Flying Machine patent 821393 (applied for 1903, granted 1906 and their successful Wright Flyer III of 1905. The Voisin Standard had a boxy frame of steel and spruce. Engine types often varied, with power ranging from 50 to 60 hp. The machine for Delagrange was flown by Charles Voisin in March and April 1907 at the airfield in the Park de Bagatelle. In January 1908, the company became known in Europe when Henri Farman succeeded in winning the Grand Prix d’Aviation, worth 50,000 francs, for a flight over the closed kilometer with another plane of this model series. In the estimation of the contemporary reference book Jane’s All the World’s Aircraft (1913) by Fred T. Jane , the Voisin was the first European aircraft to have flown truly successfully.

Having learned to fly with a Voisin, on 8 March 1910, Raymonde de Laroche became the first woman to receive a pilot licence when the Aéro-Club de France issued her licence #36.[4] In South Africa, on 28 December 1909, French aviator Albert Kimmerling made the first manned, heavier-than-air powered flight in Africa in a Voisin 1907 biplane . At the Flight Week in Reims in August 1909, 9 of the 29 pilots entered competed on “Voisin”. The other pilots were distributed among 10 other manufacturers. On March 18, 1910, Harry Houdini , who later became an American magician, made the first flight in Australia in a Voisin biplane. The flight took place on Old Calder Hwy in Diggers Rest, Victoria (Australia). In October 1910, Voisin equipped the biplane with a machine gun. He exhibited this aircraft at the Paris Air Show. It is considered the first armed aircraft in the world. Since the Wright Brothers would provide no evidence of their own accomplishments, they were widely disbelieved at the time, so this was a major breakthrough in the conquest of the air, and brought Voisin many orders for similar aircraft.

World War I

Aéroplanes Voisin was one of the most successful aircraft manufacturers during World War I, so Gabriel Voisin was quite wealthy by the end of the war. The Voisin L  had already been designed by Gabriel Voisin in 1912 and was produced in 1914 by his company Aéroplanes G. Voisin in Issy-les-Moulineaux for the French Air Force. Despite its bulky lattice fuselage, the pressurized propeller-driven aircraft with its canvas-covered tubular steel construction proved so weather and combat resistant during the war that it remained as the standard Allied bomber until 1918. Many aircraft were also used as training aircraft until the end of the war in the D-2 dual control version.

Luxury Cars

His brother Charles died in a traffic accident in 1912. Thus, Gabriel Voisin turned his back on aircraft manufacturing at this time and collaborated with automobile designer friend André Citroën to build a luxury car in the Voisin company developed by Citroën engineers. In 1919 Voisin started producing cars using Knight-type sleeve valve engines at Issy-les-Moulineaux, an industrial suburb to the southwest of Paris. Former student of the Fine Arts School of Lyon and enthusiast for all things mechanical since his childhood, Voisin’s uncompromisingly individual designs made extensive use of light alloys, especially aluminum. One of the company’s most striking early designs was the Voisin Laboratoire  Grand Prix car of 1923; one of the first cars ever to use monocoque chassis construction, and utilizing small radiator-mounted propeller to drive the cooling pump. Since the cars were far inferior to those of the competition in terms of performance, the bodies were designed to be extremely light and aerodynamic using experience gained from aircraft construction. With repeatedly modified “Laboratoires”, the company took part in a wide variety of racing classes, and 50 different long-distance records were set with a specially built vehicle – called the C5.

The Voisin Style

The characteristic Voisin style of ‘rational’ coachwork he developed in conjunction with his collaborator André Noel. Noel prioritized lightness, central weight distribution, capacious luggage boxes and distinctively angular lines. The 1930s models with underslung chassis were strikingly low. In the early 1930s, Gabriel Voisin could not pay all of his draftsmen any more and a young creative engineer named André Lefèbvre quit, recommended by Gabriel to Louis Renault . Lefèbvre finally entered Citroën where he led three particularly significant car projects: the Traction Avant, the 2CV and the DS, using a lot of Gabriel’s lessons.[ 5 ] From 1937, Graham-Paige built-in engines were used. In 1939, automobile production ceased. After the war the business was nationalized in the political turmoil and the Government installed directors who did not continue the original engineering traditions. The Voisin business was integrated into that of its principal creditor, engine supplier Gnome & Rhône which was in turn nationalized in 1945 to form the basis for what now became the state-directed SNECMA business. Voisin presented a “Biscooter Voisin” at the 1950 Paris Motorcycle and Bicycle Show, a voiturette intended for the impoverished age, with a front-mounted 125 cc engine from Gnome & Rhône. The aluminium-bodied vehicle had a three-speed transmission with a secondary gear and did not require a driver’s license

Later Years

In the 1920s, the company also proposed a ‘Motor-Fly’ which was a bicycle with a small auxiliary 2-stroke engine added to the back wheel, and also produced pre-fabricated houses that could be built in 3 days (‘votre maison en trois jours – your house in 3 days’). These were available with a floor area of 35, 75 or 105 square meters, and were constructed around a metal framework. In 1960 he retired to his country house, “La Cadolle”, at Le Villars near Tournus, where he wrote his memoirs. In 1965, he was made a Commander of the Legion d’Honneur. Gabriel Voisine died on Christmas Day, December 25, 1973 in Ozenay, Saône-et-Loire at the age of 93.

Gironde : un homme tué par son voisin, 30 coups de fusil tiré sur la victime à terre

La victime, employée à la mairie de Toulenne, est décédée des suites de ses blessures. Selon nos sources, le meurtrier présumé, qui s'est rendu lui-même à la gendarmerie, a reconnu les faits. Il avait porté plainte contre le défunt, lundi à la suite d’une altercation.

Un homme, âgé de 55 ans, a été tué par le voisin de sa mère qui lui a tiré dessus à plusieurs reprises avec un fusil de chasse et l’a atteint au thorax et à la tête pendant qu’il travaillait dans le jardin, jeudi à Toulenne (Gironde), indique une source proche du dossier. L'auteur des tirs et la victime étaient inconnus des services de la justice, mais entretenaient des relations de voisinage compliquées et tendues depuis plusieurs années, ayant même conduit le premier à porter plainte contre le second en début de semaine.

Au moment où les gendarmes sont arrivés sur place, l’auteur des coups de fusil faisait encore feu, précise le parquet de Bordeaux. Selon nos sources, ce dernier a tiré en direction de la victime à 30 reprises, alors qu’elle était déjà à terre dans la véranda, où elle s’était réfugiée. Mis à l’abri par un voisin et collègue à la mairie de Toulenne - où il était employé - Christophe Roy est décédé de ses blessures. Présente lors du drame, la mère du défunt avait également été mise hors de danger.

Finir «son œuvre»

De retour chez lui, le meurtrier a lui-même contacté la gendarmerie nationale pour lui faire part de ses actes. Il aurait alors déclaré avoir «fini son œuvre», avant de demander un délai de dix minutes pour préparer sa reddition. Un fusil à canon de calibre 12 et des documents prévoyant «la prise en charge de son chien» ont été retrouvés, posés sur une table chez l’individu, indique le parquet de Bordeaux.

L’auteur de l’homicide a assuré en garde à vue «qu'il n'y avait jamais eu de violences physiques entre lui et Christophe Roy» avant un incident survenu en mars l’ayant décidé à porter plainte lundi contre le défunt. Il y serait question de « violences» sans ITT commise par le fils de sa voisine. Une enquête, ouverte des chefs de «meurtre» , «violence avec usage ou menace d'une arme sans incapacité» notamment au préjudice de la mère du défunt, est menée par la brigade de gendarmerie de Langon.

Cellule psychologique

Une cellule psychologique, confiée au centre hospitalier de Cadillac, a été mise en place par la préfecture de la Gironde pour prendre en charge les témoins de la scène qui ont essayé de porter secours à la victime après les tirs.

Sous un communiqué de la Mairie de Toulenne publié sur Facebook, les réactions des habitants dépeignent le choc qui les frappe. «Mais pourquoi un acte aussi insensé ? Notre Christophe, [était] connu de tous et tellement apprécié», témoigne Odile P.. «Nous connaissions Christophe depuis des années. [Il avait] toujours le sourire, un mot gentil. C’est très triste», décrit aussi Isabelle B.. «Un si gentil garçon apprécié de tous» , complète Marie S.. L'accueil de loisirs sans hébergement (ALSH) de la commune abonde dans ce sens : «Christophe était un homme souriant, toujours prêt à rendre service, nous avons une énorme pensée pour sa famille.»

Il fallait tout de même que le tireur soit un rien agacé, au vu du nombre de tirs avec un calibre 12. Un accident domestique… comme diraient certains.

Donc les gendarmes sont arrivés quand il tirait encore mais le gars a eu le temps de se rendre tranquillement après avoir rédigé sa liste de courses.

Mercato: Ruben Amorim présente ses excuses aux supporteurs du Sporting après un voyage à Londres

"Le timing n'était absolument pas le bon". Ruben Amorim a reconnu une "faute" ce samedi en conférence de presse après son voyage à Londres. L'actuel entraîneur du Sporting Portugal serait sur les tablettes de West Ham et il s'est permis de négocier avec ses potentiels futurs dirigeants alors que le club de Lisbonne se déplace à Porto ce dimanche dans un match décisif pour le titre.

"Je suis vraiment désolé et je m'excuse auprès des supporters, du club et des joueurs. C'était une erreur. Le timing n'était absolument pas le bon! Je demande toujours à mes joueurs d'être respectueux et je ne l'ai pas été, même si j'en ai informé le club auparavant", a déclaré l'entraîneur portugais en conférence de presse.

Après Liverpool, Amorim convoité par West Ham

Ce voyage outre-Manche pourrait confirmer que Ruben Amorim est très convoité en Premier League. D'abord cible de Liverpool, le technicien de 39 ans a visiblement aussi tapé dans l'œil des dirigeants de West Ham qui cherchent un remplaçant à David Moyes qui arrive au terme de son contrat en juin 2024.

La piste Liverpool s'écarte alors que Arne Slot devrait succéder à Jürgen Klopp sur le banc des Reds. La piste West Ham semble alors être la plus crédible désormais pour celui qui a ramené le premier titre de champion au Sporting depuis près de 20 ans en 2021. Le club emmené par Ruben Amorim est sur le point de remporter un 20e titre de champion cette saison.

Les Lisboètes disposent de sept points d'avance sur le voisin du Benfica à quatre journées de la fin et disputeront la finale de la Coupe du Portugal le 26 mai prochain face au FC Porto.
