Q: How long does it take to install a Rostra cruise control system on a 2022-2023 RAM ProMaster?

A: Experienced 12-volt installers can normally install a Rostra cruise control system on a vehicle in 2 - 3 hours followed by a road test to check functionality. Q: What is the difference between cruise control system part number 250-9648 and 250-9648-NS?

A: Rostra's add-on cruise control part number 250-9648 allows an installer to add classic cruise control functionality to a 2022-2023 RAM ProMaster and includes the ability to quickly set and hold a highway driving speed, increase or decrease the vehicle's set speed by 1 MPH using the SET/COAST and RES/ACC buttons on the included control switch, and resume a previously-set driving speed after the cruise control has been cancelled. Rostra's 250-9648-NS system allows for the same functionality with the addition of being able to voluntarily limit the speed of the vehicle and store long-term speed settings in two memory locations accessible from the control switch.

Q: How does the speed-limiter setting work with the 250-9648-NS cruise control system?

A: The 250-9648-NS cruise control system allows a driver to voluntarily set a maximum driving speed using the "LIMITER" button on the control switch. To set a speed limit, the driver must first power on the system using the "ON-OFF" button and then accelerate to the maximum speed they want the truck to travel. Once traveling at the desired maximum speed, the driver simply needs to press the "LIMITER" button. The built-in LED on the included control switch will illuminate red letting them know a maximum speed is set. At this point, while the vehicle is in motion, input from the accelerator pedal by the driver is ignored once the maximum set speed has been reached. The speed-limiter can be disengaged at any point while in use and its setting is removed from the system's memory altogether when the system is powered off. Q: What is the purpose of the "MEM-1" and "MEM-2" buttons on the control switch of the 250-9648-NS system?

A: The 250-9648-NS system allows drivers to store preferred cruise control speed settings within the control module's long-term memory that can be easily accessed by pressing either the "MEM-1" or "MEM-2" buttons. An example of why this feature is useful would be a driver that navigates the same highway each day where the speed increases and decreases at regular intervals from 70 MPH to 55 MPH. The driver could store a setting of 70 MPH in the "MEM-1" location and 55 MPH in the "MEM-2" location. When they reach the area of the highway with the 70 MPH speed limit, they can simply press the "MEM-1" button and the vehicle will gently accelerate to 70 MPH and hold that speed. When they reach the section of the highway where the speed decreases to 55 MPH, they can press the "MEM-2" button letting the vehicle coast down to 55 MPH after which the cruise control system will hold that speed. At the press of the "MEM-1" button, the vehicle will once again accelerate to 70 MPH and the cruise control system will once again hold that speed. The memory settings can be reset at any point. The following is to be used as a guide on how to install ACC, FCW, Lane Assist, Auto High Beam headlights and rain-sensitive wipers in your 5th Gen Ram 1500, also known as the Advanced Safety Group. I’ve also included a guide at the end of this document on how to install blind spot monitoring. Obviously, I cannot guarantee this will work on your truck, but I am confident it will. I was able to install all these features on my 2019 Ram Lonestar which originally came with an 8.4" Non-Nav Unit with Dual Climate control. I believe this can be activated on any 5th Gen, but I’m literally the first person to have done this (that I am aware of) so it’s possible there are unknown variables that will prevent activation. This install is for those that have experience with AlphaOBD and assumes you are familiar with basic terms and procedures. It is not advised to do this as your first project, but you are free to do as you want. I believe this to be a mostly complete guide, but I wrote this from memory after 8 months working on this project so some things might have slipped through the cracks. Big thanks to all those involved along the way. The purpose of this thread is not to debate "if it's worth it" or to discourage others from spending their money how they want. Everyone has different opinions on this. I took this project on as a personal challenge to see if it was even possible and with a larger goal in mind than just these stock features. If your truck came factory equipped with FCW but not ACC, you need the following: (see attached file for additional information). In the initial document I mentioned having a parking brake warning light on after the HCU and ABS module installation procedure. This can now be cleared with AlphaOBD by doing the following: ABS > Service Procedures > Assembly Check > START. The ABS will make a brief noise and EPB light should turn off. Cycle the ignition then put it in Run again, and check the ABS module for faults. The fault might still be present but this time you should be able to clear it. See page 32, post #628 for details. How to: Add Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane assist, FCW & Auto Hi-beam to Ram 1500 Credit to @konon for this discovery. It has now been confirmed that you can use a used HCU and ABS module rather than purchasing new as mentioned in the installation document. Please refer to page 41, post #812 for details. Outstanding work on all of this. My truck is factory equipped with FCW and auto high beams using the DASM, so based on what I have gathered I should be able to just add the remaining parts and save a good bit not having to purchase a new DASM.

My truck is equipped with the full speed forward collision warning with emergency braking, but not the more advanced features. It utilizes the DASM for that system, along with the auto high beam function, and apparently it controls my standard cruise control as well. To get the ACC and lane keep, I should in theory be able to utilize my current DASM and just add the HCU and ABS module along with the buttons. Since they are listed as different part numbers, one can guess that they are designed for either full brake application, as in my truck’s case, or the ability to modulate them smoothly for the ACC. Now I am wondering if adding the radio bezel with the lane keep assist button and activating that feature in the BCM would enable that feature independent of the ACC, or if they are tied together in some way. Aftermarket cruise control for 2011 Dodge Ram 1500

has anyone installed after market cruise control on a2011 dodge ram 1500 3.7 that did not come with said cruise control

I have installed factory accessory cruise control on many vehicles, they have become rather simple, a switch, wiring and sometimes a clockspring. Did you find an aftermarket kit for a better price?

Yeah, I’d pay extra for a factory accessory, given all the electronics now involved.

Seeing that they are sold I would venture that the answer to this question is ( Yes ).

Seriously? Most people can see beyond the literal and read between the lines. The OP is asking if anyone HERE has ever done it and can provide advice. Most people who do not have any prior experience just keep their yap shut and move on…

I had a cruise control added to a 2000 Ford Ranger once, without any factory cruise control. I think a local transmission shop did the work. It worked really well, as I recall.

Having more time than money, I would consider getting it from an auto recycler and installing it myself.

Installing the switch involves removing the airbag and steering wheel.

Can I install cruise control in my Ram 1500 ST?

Hey guys, I have a 2010 Ram 1500 ST without cruise control and was wondering what it would take to get cruise control put on. I called two differet dealerships yesterday and they informed me that there wasnt a OEM switch and the only way I could get it is if the truck was already wired for it. I have seen a few post on here about it so it seems to me that its possible. Has anyone done it? If so can you give me a little more info (price,part numbers, etc.) Thanks guys for yalls help.  

They still make trucks without cruise? Why? My guess you are SOL. My guess it would cost $$$$. new stearing wheel, harness, etc. I installed cruise on a 2000 neon with a MT - but that was just plug and play. I had to remove the airbag and clockspring, but it was mostly already prewired.  

I too have a 2010 ST, and my dealer quoted me $470.00 to install it, I don't believe it's an OEM kit though, I have found the kits on E-bay for $159.00, Haven't ordered it yet, but plan to later this year!! I believe the kits are actually made by Rostra Precision Controls, Inc. They have a website www.rostra.com , doesn't look like it would be too hard to install, but time will tell, the dealer said it takes about an hour to a hour and a half!!  

Moparn4life----Beats the hell out of me! You would think a truck that cost over $20,000 would have it but oh well. Ive seen several post that claim the truck is prewired and that all I need is the switch. I mean they have these trucks with cruise control and if you buy the ST popular group it includes cruise control so I dont get why they dont have a OEM part. Stumpy1---Do you happen to have the part number they quoted you for? I wouldnt mind spending around 500 dollars or so to have it installed if it would be covered by warranty. Was that for the wiring kit, switch and install?  

When I talked to the dealer service manager he didn't quote me a part #, but it was for the kit and the installation of the kit, The rostra part # is 250-9001, you can get the installtion instructions right from their Website!!  

Maybe they changed but for years including all 3rd gens all that was needed to add cruise was the switch's. Less then $100 bucks maybe less then that. Harness was all the same with it or not. I handled lots of add cruise to trucks and Caravans. Added it on a bare 1998 1500 I bought back then. It was only switches. Lots of threads on such on other Dodge sites over the years. Lots of same answers as posted and then someone would post back 'well cheez all it needed was the switches" Maybe 4th Gens have changed from that. I know that the parts guys when asked tried to sell a whole bunch of items for adding cruise and the parts manager I worked with knew better and would give a aggravated look and order the switch's.  

hounddog---Ive seen that posted a few times in some forums but no one has yet to say anything about the 4th gen whether or not it was just the switch and whether or not if it worked.  

After reading through the installation instructions for the Rostra Switch, it looks like that is all that is needed for the Rams, it is the same switch for the Nitro, the Journey, and the Caravan, and there is an extra step in the instructions for installing a Clockspring/ECM harness, but that is not called out for the Ram pick-ups, So I belive the switch is all that is needed for our ST's!! I've found them on E-bay for $159.85 w free shipping and on a website called Brandon Distributing, Inc for $152.12, shipped to Kentucky, I just got to beg the wife to let me order it pretty soon, heres a copy of the installation instructions just in case you all want to check it out!!

Well Stumpy Ill let you be the guinea pig...If you do get it and have the time, maybe you can do a write up on here so others like me can figure it all out. I found this at dodgepartsonline dot net ... if you go to steering wheel, then steering wheel trim, they have a cruise switch for $14 Would we need anything else???  

For $14 for the switch I may go ahead and order it tomorrow!!

Well stumpy I was reading some other forums and found out that the OEM switch that is $14 doesnt come with the wires that are needed so I guess its just the switch its self. I guess your would have to make your own connector some how. So I guess for the time being the rostra kit is the only available option.  

You would be correct, I called the phone number listed on the dodgeparts online website, and of course they asked for my vin #, which then was told that it wasn't available for my truck, which we all know is bull, because we can by an aftermarket switch and install ourselves, or in my case the dealer can by an aftermarket switch and charge double what they should to install, I will just have to be patient until the funds become available to order the Rostra switch!!!  

It use to be a switch with wires etc. There was nothing to make. I will say parts guys that had not ordered correct parts before had a rough time getting the correct switch. I was in one place the parts manager had to call the factory parts rep to get the correct part number. I bet there is the factory switch part number for cruise switches with leads to plug in. I can't imagine they would change the parts and procedure that was in place over a decade. But they could have.  

Call Ricky Reid the parts manager at Hayes Chrysler. Its 1800-464-2937. When I worked there he ordered and got them frequently. Switch with wire/plug in unless I'm nuts.LOL  

Called Ricky today, and he was very helpful and he said the switch itself is only $22.80, but it is made so that the wiring harness plugs into the switch itself, and that the wiring might already be on the truck or it may not be, so the only way to know for sure would be to diassemble the steering wheel enough to see if the wiring is already there, so before I order the switch I might try and see how much trouble it is to take it apart and check it out, just don't know how quickly I can get to it!! we'll let you all know something if I get a chance this coming weekend!!  

Must have been lucky years back or maybe set up was different. All the ones I was ever involved with it was just a plug in. Think it paid a hour or such to install. Glad Ricky was helpful. He has been the parts manager at Hayes in Oakwood a long time.

Do you have the part number for the "other part" I am assuming it's the wiring harness that is needed for the OEM switch?? I took mine apart last night just to see what is needed and your right just the switch and the wires that slide into the connector that's already there. don't want to order a rostra switch if it's going to go bad in 8 months!! I'm half tempted to order the switch and make my own wiring harness from parts you can get from Radio Shack!!

2025 Ram Rebel X and Warlock join the Hurricane-powered Ram 1500 range

Ram has plenty of off-road-oriented 1500 trucks to pick from.

The big news in off-road 2025 Ram 1500 pickups is, of course, the new RHO with its TRX body and suspension, but lower price and Hurricane engine. But it's not the only Ram 1500 that has just been revealed with a penchant for dirt. It launched two other trims for two other purposes and price points. Among them is the Rebel X, which adds additional features for comfort and capability for off-road use over the regular Rebel. And then there's the Warlock, which continues from last year, but with the new straight-six.

2025 Ram 1500 Rebel X

The Rebel X is the range-topping Rebel, and it celebrates 10 years of the nameplate. It's built off the Rebel Level 2 equipment group, which adds features such as the 14.5-inch center touchscreen, passenger-side infotainment screen, panoramic sunroof, heated front and rear seats, heated wheel, dual phone charging and 19-speaker Harman Kardon sound system among many others. From there it adds a number of extra features including a new Rough Road Cruise Control. In addition to maintaining speed on dirt roads, it also continuously adjusts suspension damping and steering weight as needed. It would seem like it might be for low speed, similar to Toyota's Crawl Control or Ford's Trail Control, but Ram didn't go into deep detail about it. Additionally, the Rebel X gets special logo decals, high-bolster seats, the paddle shifters and console shifter from the G/T package and red interior accents. Otherwise it gets the same 1-inch suspension lift, Bilstein shocks, 33-inch tires on 17-inch wheels, softer rear anti-roll bar, sport hood, black bumper, skid plate, LED fog lights and other black exterior accents as a Rebel. It also gets the standard-output Hurricane twin-turbo 3.0-liter engine with 420 horsepower and 469 pound-feet of torque. It starts at $66,190 with destination

2025 Ram 1500 Warlock

Also revised is the Ram 1500 Warlock. As before, it's meant as an affordable option that offers some of the core upgrades of the Rebel, but without a bunch of the fancier features that raise the price. So it gets a 1-inch suspension lift and a skid plate, plus loads of black accents, including the dual exhaust tips. But it has 18-inch wheels, the basic 8.4-inch infotainment screen, physical gauge dials and a cloth front bench. It does still get a leather-wrapped steering wheel, though, along with nadaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist and blind-spot monitoring. Heated front seats, a spray-in bedliner and side steps are options. Under the hood is the base Hurricane engine with 420 horsepower and 469 pound-feet of torque. The Warlock starts at $56,255

I always wanted to have cruise control on my 2000 dodge van, but never bothered. When the pandemic hit, I used the down time to put in a new engine, repaint and rebuild the body, steering, brakes and frame (the van has a lot of sentimental value to me). Over 2020, the van was rebuilt to better than new condition, and I decided to add cruise control. After much research and reading of reviews, I chose the rostra universal cruise control kit. It took about 3 weeks to get it up here to Canada, and when it got here, the installation process couldn't have been easier. With the exception of some fabrication to make a bracket to mount the switch arm to my steering column (that was custom work and no aftermarket part would have done that for me), the installation was a snap and only took about three hours. The bulk of the work was done in the wiring, specifically accessing and finding the brake light switch and figuring out two wires in the main PCM harness that needed to be spliced into (and all of that was vehicle specific, and not a fault in the kit). Once everything was hooked up, it worked right out of the gate exactly as it should have. The response was smooth and predictable and the controller kept about +/- 3 km/h at every speed I tried it at. Amazing! I couldn't be happier with the design and functionality of the unit. Time will tell as to longevity, but with clear cautions on how not to mount it, and very good design and attention to detail, along with a 3yr warranty, I am looking forward to years of easy operation My suggestions are as follows: a) Read the installation, wiring and technical details through a few times and watch the youtube videos about the installation BEFORE you start. b) Make sure you have access to a really good electrical manual for your vehiclle (I was lucky enough to have a dealer service manual) c) Clean the area thoroughly around the installation area in the drivers area and under the hood. You will be running a lot of wires and the control cable, and ziptying off a lot of harnesses, connectors, etc. so it gets messy and dirty if you are not careful d) Label each wire BEFORE you start to make it easier to make all the connections correctly the first time. There are a lot of connections to make, and you don't want to get confused, specifically when you are tying into the PCM harness. Thanks Sean
