Tips to Start Off Strong in Street Fighter 6 World Tour

Image of Joel Couture

World Tour Mode is a sprawling, free-roaming, fighting game RPG in Street Fighter 6 . You’re able to wander the streets of Metro City and the world beyond, picking fights, growing stronger, and meeting main characters who’ll teach you their movesets. What moves should you use, though? When things get tough, what should you do? What should you have been doing to avoid getting in those rough spots to begin with? We’ve got a few strategies to help you make you an unstoppable force in your global search for strength.

Make Smart Decisions When Designing a Street Fighter 6 World Tour Character

You’ll start this mode off by making a character. This character creator will let you make some wild creatures that you can style after favorite characters, beloved fighters, or even yourself. Then again, you can also make some hulking monstrosity with massive arms and legs. It’s wide open, but this is one of the first important decisions you’ll be making for your character. Your leg and arm length dictate your reach in the mode’s fighting matches. If your character is massive, they’ll be a massive target. As soon as you start making your character, you can build advantages and disadvantages into them based on how you create. It’s something you should keep in mind right from the start.

If you make a character that feels clunky in a fight, are you stuck, though? Street Fighter 6 doesn’t want you stuck with a bad build throughout World Tour. Style Lab Beauty Salon on Beat Street (the Times Square-like location most of us know from the demo ) allows you to change your character for 1000 Zenny (the mode’s currency). It’s highly affordable, and you can tweak the character into any shape you like as many times as you want. So, if you make something for a joke and its proportions end up being a pain, don’t feel like you can’t change it. It’s also nice if you just want a change of pace. This mode is fairly extensive, so sometimes it may be good to change up your character.

You may have to accept that your character will look a little bit stupid, though. That’s because the gear you wear isn’t just cosmetic, but boosts defensive and offensive stats. If you head into Drippin’ Style, you’ll see lots of different hats, shirts, pants, and more you can wear. Some of these will have stats that are clearly better than others. I have basically looked like sasquatch in a mini skirt and an off-duty MMA McDonald’s manager at times. The boosts were too good to turn the clothes down, though. Always keep an eye out for shops with better gear, and prepare to swallow your pride to get the best bonuses.

Be Prepared to Power Up Your Gear

If you have a look that you like, though, there is a way to preserve it in World Tour Mode in Street Fighter 6 . You can power up pieces of gear by consuming other gear and items that you get from fights. This can allow you to strengthen a piece of equipment that you like so that’s it’s comparable or better than the stupid hat you were thinking of buying and wearing. You can find this feature when you’re in the shops buying clothes, so it’s worth looking into before you buy some goofy new outfit. Plus, it makes use of the other equipment you’ll steadily pick up throughout the game.

That said, you’ll need money to improve gear or to buy new stuff. Money comes fairly easily from beating up other fighters, but it doesn’t come too quickly. If you need to make Zenny fast, there are part-time jobs you can take on. These are minigames that are varying levels of fun and complexity. If you want to just make money ridiculously fast early on, though, you’re going to want to head to Junkyard Smallz near the bottom center of the Metro City map. With his job, you smash up a truck as fast as you can. The more damaging moves you hit it with, the higher the score and the more money you make. You can easily make 2500-3500 Zenny in about thirty seconds doing this job. There’s no source of cash that works that fast from fairly early in the game. Ten hours into World Tour and I’d still stop there periodically for about five minutes to make a boatload of money to buy anything I wanted for the next few hours.

Items Can Save You in a Pinch in Street Fighter 6 World Tour

It’s good to have cash on hand to buy items as well as gear. Street Fighter 6 lets you use items in the middle of a fight in World Tour mode. Losing to Manon’s throws? Pop a healing item, eat something to increase your defense, or slam some treats to boost your offense. It feels extremely strange to stop a fighting game match to heal, but you’ll need it as some of the enemies can get pretty tough in this mode (and sometimes fight you two or three at a time). Many of the little shops in the game sell fairly good items for around 1000-1500 Zenny, so keep yourself stocked up for bad times. Check the various restaurants in the game for their takeout menu to see if they have anything worthwhile to buy to keep you in a fight.

As for the fights themselves, they can get pretty chaotic. As I said, you can find yourself battling several enemies at once. While this is a fighting game, you’re walking streets inspired by a sidescrolling beat ’em up: Final Fight . That means you need to start acting like it by keeping all your foes on one side of you any time that you can. If you get surrounded, things will get bad fast. Try to hop over your foes to avoid getting surrounded. Plus, you can hit multiple enemies with the same attack. You’re going to want to bunch enemies up and dispatch them faster.

Be Prepared to Fight Everyone, but Check the Criteria First

While some people will just chase you down and start a fight in Street Fighter 6 ‘s World Tour mode, you can also challenge folks on the street. Why not throw down against that hot dog vendor? Before you do so, it’s worthwhile to hit Triangle before attacking them. This gives you a list of special criteria you can do in a match to get bonus items and Zenny. You can check this against foes during a fight by pausing, but I found this was easier to do in advance and helped me decide if I should pick a fight with someone just for their reward. The tasks tend to be easy, too: get so many knockdowns, land so many punches or kicks, do so many hard knockdowns. You just want to know what to do before the fight gets rolling. The bonus items will definitely help keep you going, and all for very little extra effort.

Once you’re ready to fight, know that you can select from all sorts of different moves. As you play through this mode, you’ll meet the various main characters as Masters. Once you meet a Master, you’ll gain a move from their moveset. For instance, you start with a lot of Luke’s basic strikes. As you meet more Masters, you can freely equip your character with moves from multiple characters. I liked mixing Manon’s grabs with Marisa’s armored punches, with a little Blanka electricity thrown in as a fun surprise. You’re free to do whatever you like, so it’s worth equipping different moves often. You can only have one move per input type, though, so make your selections based on their input.

Pay Close Attention to Your Masters

You don’t just equip skills from Masters in World Tour in Street Fighter 6. You can also equip a Master like a piece of gear. This changes your basic punches and kicks so that they will work like your Master, so you can even adjust your basic fighting style to suit a given Master. Equipping a Master gives you experience in their style (as does fighting opponents who use a Master’s specific style), and as you gain levels, you get more story moments and get new moves from that Master. I really liked getting to know the characters, so equipping Masters I wanted to learn more about, both as combatants and as people, was important to me. If you want to get stronger (or have your sasquatch walk on his toes like a ballet dancer), you’ll want to pay attention to this element.

Your Master doesn’t just passively watch from afar. Once you reach a certain Style level with a master, you can call them to fight alongside you in a match. They’ll pop in for a few seconds and help you paddle your foes, then depart. I initially hoarded this ability, but it honestly refills very quickly after using it. I’ve been able to call the Master in multiple times during longer fights, so feel free to use it frequently to turn the tide in your favor. You have to get food or level up to heal most of the time, so anything you can do to avoid damage is a smart decision.

Take Advantage of RPG Elements and Level Grind if Needed

If you still find you’re having trouble with Street Fighter 6 ‘s World Tour mode, you can grind for levels. It’s just a lot slower than gaining items and calling in help. That said, you do gain some perks as you gain levels. You can choose between several skills using points you gain from leveling, and these can boost punch strength, kick damage, improve healing items, give you more drive gauge uses, and more. You really can’t go wrong with juicing up your basic strikes early on, and abilities you don’t select early on have a tendency to pop up later in your choices, so you don’t often miss out on something permanently. All the boosts are good, though, so I found it very hard to go wrong with your choices. Just lean into what you like to do and go from there.

If you want those levels faster, I honestly found it worked best to push Story Mode missions. You gain some fairly big rewards from them (like bigger cash rewards and access to new Masters), and they were often the least challenging elements of the game. You’ll grow quickly pushing through story mode and occasionally stopping to get some cash for items and gear. It was the Side Missions that would leave me beaten down and defeated. These can get quite hard compared to normal activities, but with items and some help, you should still likely persevere.

See What’s Happening During the Days and Nights, and Don’t Be Afraid to Revive!

If you’re a completionist, you’ll want to check the streets day and night in World Tour in Street Fighter 6 . You can get different quests during the day or nighttime, so always flick between the two to make sure you did everything. I found that doing these quests would give some decent rewards that were far more valuable than grinding random foes.

If you do happen to die in a fight, though, you can spend an in-game revival currency, Miles, to get back in a fight. You build these in all sorts of ways (including just walking around), but it takes 10k Miles for a single revive. You usually come back with the enemy at the exact health level you had them at when you died, so you can usually mop up a fight easily this way. It’s kind of slow to build up miles, though, so I found it was far better to stay alive with items and Master assists instead.

There’s a lot you can do in World Tour in Street Fighter 6 , but with these tips, you should be well-equipped to punch and kick your way to the top of the fighting world. Even if you do look like you raced here after working a shift at your local burger joint.

Street Fighter 6 is available on the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, and PC .

Street Fighter 6: 7 Things To Do In World Tour

There are plenty of things to occupy a player's time in World Tour mode while experiencing Street Fighter 6.

Street Fighter 6 has a lot of different game modes for fans to jump into and play however they would like. One game mode that made its first appearance in Street Fighter 6 is the ambitious World Tour mode. World Tour allows players to start a single-player journey through the world of Street Fighter and take on challengers and mentors from all around the world.

RELATED: Street Fighter 6: World Tour - Chapter 7 Walkthrough

Gamers will also be able to create their own character to adventure with, and even deck them out with almost any combination of moves learned by various Street Fighter 6 characters like Ryu. In World Tour mode, there are plenty of things to do that will keep fans busy. Players are even able to pick up a "part-time job."

7 The Story

The main aspect of Street Fighter 6's World Tour game mode is its fierce narrative. Starting out, players are a trainee at Luke's gym in America, but soon they will head out on an adventure around the world while studying under different Street Fighter 6 characters. Players also have a rival named Bosch who plays a major part in World Tour's story.

Story quests in World Tour mode are recognizable by their radiant red color icon that appears on the map. To unlock more moves, masters, and locations, players will need to advance in the story.

6 Sub-Missions

Sub-missions in Street Fighter 6's World Tour mode are simply side quests that players can complete for extra cash or experience. Sometimes, these side quests even reward fans with new clothing or items as well, making them a neat activity to take part in. As players advance through World Tour mode's story missions, more and more Sub-missions will become available around the map.

Sub-missions are distinguished by their light blue icon, making them easy to spot on the map. Some sub-missions also unlock bus stops, which are important when fast-traveling.

5 Pick Up A Part-Time Job

While it isn't a serious part-time job that players can find themselves doing in Street Fighter 6 , these "part-time job" activities are one of the most fun (and rewarding) things to do in Metro City. Part-time jobs are simply side activities that players can find and do in World Tour mode. These are great for beginners to earn quick money .

Starting, players will be able to make pizza at the local HadoPizza pizza food truck in Metro City. Over time, players will unlock different types of part-time jobs, such as breaking boards. Each of these jobs helps enforce players' skills in some way, such as performing move inputs and learning attack positions.

4 Fight Almost Anyone You See

One of the best features of World Tour that sold the mode to many players is the fact that they can fight with almost any character they find on Street Fighter 6's map. Street fighting is the most popular activity in Metro City, and arguably the world that Street Fighter 6 takes place in.

RELATED: Street Fighter 6: Best Characters To Use Against JP

That said, civilians walking on the sidewalks, vendors serving food, and even an elderly couple enjoying their time near the ocean are all able to be fought. There is a level indicator above that NPC, and players can initiate a fight by pressing the respective button, or by using a Master Action.

3 Train With Masters

Masters in Street Fighter 6 are the roster characters that gamers play as in regular matches of Street Fighter . Starting in World Tour, players will be studying under the master, Luke. Studying under a master means learning that character's fighting style, special moves, poses, and even Super Arts. Players will be able to take advantage of some of the best characters in Street Fighter 6 .

These masters, like Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, and E. Honda, are all found around the world. To increase the rank of a master, players will need to beat opponents while using that master's fighting style or other special moves. This will allow more moves to be learned by that master, and eventually Super Arts .

2 Shop Around

Fighting is the main part of all of Street Fighter 6 , even its World Tour mode. But, that doesn't mean players necessarily need to pursue a fight every minute while playing the single-player campaign.

RELATED: Beginner Tips For Street Fighter 6

There are many shops in Street Fighter 6's Metro City that players can browse through. These shops have clothes that players can equip onto their characters, an upgrade system for gear, an option to change the color of clothes, and there is even a shop that allows players to change the entire appearance of their custom avatar for 1000 Zenny.

1 Avatar Battles

The Battle Hub is another sort of game mode that players can find on the main menu, but players can travel to the Battle Hub from the World Tour world map. The Battle Hub is a multiplayer hub with shops, arcade machines, and so much more. The Battle Hub also has a spot where players can gather and battle against one another with their custom avatars.

Though there isn't any level scaling, avatar battles are a fun way to show off custom-made characters, and try out custom move sets against real players. Of course, some movesets may seem unfair with the combination of different character's moves, but avatar battles are all in good fun.

Street Fighter 6 is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Street Fighter 6 Lets You Fail At Thirst Texting, And It's Amazing

Ryu is stupid in the world tour mode, and i like that in a man.

Ryu is seen shirtless and working with others and clearly being the only one who isn't straining himself.

Street Fighter 6 already has a lot going for it as a return to form for Capcom’s marquee fighting game , but one of the best parts of the game has very little to do with fighting. Instead, one of the most memorable parts of the experience is the World Tour mode’s social elements that let you become besties with all your favorite and least favorite fighters. And y’all, I’ve had a crush on Ryu for years, all the while knowing he was not the brightest and hippest person in the cast, but this man is a himbo. Thanks to Street Fighter 6, my love for Ryu has skyrocketed past fictional character thirst into swinging my feet in my bed while reading his boneheaded texts.

Ryu is (was?) the face of Street Fighter , but he’s pretty uninvolved in the petty going-ons of World Tour’s main story which is mostly just you chasing after your anime rival who gets caught up in doing crime to get stronger and then gets very quickly in over his head as the stakes escalate. I had to leave the bustling noise of Street Fighter 6 ’s metropolis hub to find him training in Japan. When I first approached him in Genbu Temple, he was deep into his routine. He punched and kicked with the precision and intent of becoming a world-class fighter. He was so into it that he barely noticed me, but I was transfixed by his powerful movements. He summoned a dragon, at one point and also swept me off my feet with a gust of wind. It was magical. Then all of that mystique went away the second he opened his mouth.

To be clear, Ryu is an incredibly wise man of beekeeping age . He is worldly, and he tells plenty of stories about his years of travel, training, and meeting people around the world. But as I stood with him at Genbu Temple and listened to him tell me about his life, I knew I would have to leave and get back to my training elsewhere. So I asked him for his number, and when I said I would put it in my smartphone, he was confused.

“Er, I didn’t realize they gave IQ tests to phones these days,” he said in response.

A Street Fighter character is seen kissing in Ryu's direction while heart emojis surround them both.

Immediately, I was in love, and that love only grew stronger as he continuously struggled to text, learn text etiquette, and type properly with his big dumb hands. Between his signing every text with his name, consistent typos, and trying to learn how to use emojis, I tried to help bring him into the present day and show him the ropes of how to use a smartphone as he taught me to shoot a fireball from my hands. But perhaps his lack of texting expertise is why he didn’t quite catch on to the social cues of my flirting with him.

Ryu asked how my training was going and I was given the option to respond with an emoji, so I chose the one of the little guy with hearts over his head and a bouquet of flowers. To any Millenial or Gen Z texter, this would be a clear sign that someone is showing romantic interest. To Ryu, who is still trying to figure out how the touchscreen can tell where his fingers are, all he sees is a silly little guy that has appeared on his screen. Sure, he wants to know how to use those himself, but he’s not really catching on. Desperate to keep the conversation going, I tell him I will teach him how to use emojis when I see him next, and he says that, as far as technology goes, I’m effectively his master as he was mine in martial arts. Immediate smash cut to my Street Fighter 6 avatar giggling to himself in the middle of Metro City.

A text conversation between Ryu and an avatar reads "how's your training coming along? I see. If you feel you've improved... Come visit me again."

While the entire situation reads to me like I’m fighting for my life in this man’s inbox trying to get him to notice me, other Street Fighter 6 players have taken notice of Ryu’s lack of communication skills and have deemed him a street-fighting boomer. They’re not wrong, but it’s incredibly endearing, and an adorable microcosm of how World Tour does a lot for characterizing the roster in a way a lot of fighting games don’t get around to. Even if Ryu isn’t the star of the story mode, Street Fighter 6 makes these characters feel like real people, rather than just mechanics and tech grafted onto a character design.

Ryu’s arc in Street Fighter 6 is notably subdued compared to a lot of the weirdos in the roster, but you know what? Maybe my avatar wants something simple, something stupid, and something with big strong arms to throw me across the battlefield. Now I just have to keep sending him bouquet bearer emojis until he gets the message.

I spent $1,200 on tickets to see Olivia Rodrigo with my daughter. It was worth every penny.

  • I wasn't able to get tickets for Olivia Rodrigo 's Guts World Tour at first.
  • I didn't want my daughter to miss out on the show, so I bought resale tickets for $1,200.
  • We had a great time together and seeing my daughter's joy made the cost worth it.

Insider Today

When Olivia Rodrigo announced her Guts World Tour in support of her sophomore album, my body tensed.

"Here we go again," I thought. My daughter, 13, loves Rodrigo almost as much as she loves Taylor Swift.

Having tried, and failed, to get tickets through Ticketmaster for Swift's Eras Tour , I swore to do better.

Ultimately, I failed and ended up shelling out over $1,000 for two tickets to the tour. But I don't have any regrets.

I was determined to bring my daughter to the Guts World Tour

When Rodrigo announced the Guts World Tour , I did everything I could to prepare.

I recruited relatives to sign up their email for the Ticketmaster presale lottery so we'd have more chances to buy tickets. I even opened a credit card in hopes of getting access to the American Express presale.

When Rodrigo announced she was releasing $20 tickets in select cities, we once again rallied the troops to sign up for a chance to buy them.

We tried to get tickets to the show in our city, Washington, DC, and anywhere within reasonable driving distance, too.

We walked away defeated. Eventually, I realized Rodrigo would be performing in St. Paul, Minnesota, during our family trip there in March.

But resale prices were high — two tickets with an unobstructed view were going to cost over $1,000. I put off making a decision.

The night of Rodrigo's first show, my daughter wondered aloud which songs would be on the setlist and what types of outfits the singer might wear.

My heart grew watching her excitement, and it quickly sank thinking she might miss out on seeing Rodrigio live. I worried ticket prices would climb even higher with the tour starting.

I panicked. Before Rodrigo's set ended, I'd purchased two tickets in the 110 section from resale marketplace TickPick for a whopping $1,200 after fees.

I felt incredibly fortunate that I could do this for my daughter, but still wondered if these tickets were a good use of money.

"It's a bad idea, right?" I told my daughter, quoting one of Rodrigo's songs. She assured me it was the best idea ever.

We had an amazing time, and I don't regret a thing

Once I had tickets, my daughter and I went all in, recapturing some of the magic we had preparing for Swift's Eras Tour .

My daughter carefully chose her outfit, working in several references to Rodrigo's songs, with ribbons in her hair and a homemade shirt. She even made me a matching one, even though we hadn't had matching outfits since she was a toddler.

She made me a friendship bracelet in Rodrigo's signature color, purple. I haven't taken it off yet.

When the concert started, my daughter was beside herself with joy.

As Rodrigo started her performance, my daughter's phone was fixed on the stage, but I was fixated on her. There's nothing better than watching one of my children experience happiness the way she did hearing Rodrigo sing live for the first time.

My daughter sang along to every single song. And, really, the show was incredible.

It was hard to look away as Rodrigo floated above the audience on a moon surrounded by stars. The 21-year-old singer acted like the rock star she is while also pausing to wave to fans.

I'm looking forward to going to more concerts with my daughter, but hopefully at more reasonable prices.

Depeche Mode Announce 2023 World Tour In Conjunction With Their New Album Memento Mori

depeche mode world tour 2023

During an announcement made at a press conference at the Berlin Ensemble in the first piece of news coming from Depeche Mode after the tragic passing of their co-founder and keyboardist Andrew Fletcher earlier this year, they announced they will be making a return to the scene with a brand new album and a world tour in 2023.

Discussing the new album, the two remaining members of the band, Dave Gahan and Martin Gore stated that it is a reminder to live each day to the fullest and was written in reflection of the passing of Fletcher and even its title, Memento Mori, is meant to lean into the theme.

While the album is still in the works, the plan is to release the album close to the start of the tour in March 2023.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Depeche Mode (@depechemode)

Kicking off the band’s first tour in five years, The Memento Mori World Tour is set to begin on March 23rd, ‘23 in Sacramento, CA and spans over 65 dates across the US and Europe.. Find the complete details and tickets for the world tour here . While its only been a couple of days since the tickets went on sale, the success has already lead the band to add additional tour dates for certain cities!

While the first tour after Fletcher’s passing, will definitely feel somber and different, it is also a chance for the band to honor his legacy, celebrate his life and march forward for the bands fans.

It’s a vast area of extremes: with snowy peaks, scorching sands and wildflower meadows, the National Park encompasses a wide range of different landscapes. One of the most popular locations is the multi-hued Artists Palette, a series of eroded hills whose colouring is due to the oxidation of natural metal deposits in the mountains. ‘ Star Wars ’ fans will be keen to see the site that inspired the planet Tatooine.

With Angkor Wat not far away, Bayon, its off-the-beaten track little sister, is a close second in popularity.

Jodhpur, India

The magical, walled Blue City is a tangle of winding medieval streets. The monumental 15th-century Mehrangarh Fort, which is still run by the royal family and now serves as a museum, looks out over the old city and its mesh of box-shaped buildings, shops and bazaars.

Antelope Canyon, Arizona

The Navajo name of this slot canyon translates to ‘the place where water runs through rocks’ and the narrow ravine is an American Southwest treasure, filled with ripples of eroded stone formations, and sunlight creating orange filters and bright patterns. The popularity of this spot among keen photographers speaks for itself – this is one of the most beautiful places in the world.

Svalbard, Norway

This Arctic archipelago , about a three-hour flight north of Oslo , has one of the harshest environments on the planet. Nearly two-thirds of it is protected and the islands are made up of bird sanctuaries, nature reserves and national parks where polar bears roam. The Northern Lights can be seen in the winter and in the summer, when the temperature tops out at 6°C, the sun doesn’t go below the horizon.

Copenhagen, Denmark

The forward-thinking capital of Scandi cool appeals to foodies, design junkies and a cool young crowd. With its ground-breaking food scene , including world-famous Noma (and Noma 2.0 ), it’s a city to be taken seriously. Colourful buildings dot the central Nyhavn port, but it’s worth exploring alternative community Christiania, quirky Vesterbro and hipster Nørrebro, too.

Lamu, Kenya

The old town of Lamu , on the Indian Ocean island of the same name, was established in the 14th century. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the port city is a mish-mash of cultures – Swahili, Asian, Arabic, European – while along the laid-back coast majestic dhows sail by all day long.

Wulingyuan, China

More than 3,000 narrow, quartz-sandstone pillars make up Wulingyuan Scenic and Historic Interest Area in the Hunan Province. These natural wonders, many higher than 656ft, are broken up by ravines, gorges, caves and waterfalls. It’s easy to see why the UNESCO World Heritage Site was James Cameron’s inspiration for Avatar .

Havana, Cuba

The crumbling façades of this island nation's capital keep bringing in waves of travelling artists, rum fanatics and cigar smokers to the city. It’s where Hemingway wrote seven of his books and drank Mojitos at La Bodeguita del Medio. And with temperatures of 27°C in December, it’s an ideal winter-sun destination.

Kyoto, Japan

Considered to be the cultural centre of Japan, Kyoto is awash with ancient temples and shrines, serene teahouses and sublime gardens. The bright-orange Fushimi-inari, a shinto shrine in the hills, is a visual beauty. Grab an artisan coffee, taken very seriously in the traditional city, and make the two-hour pilgrimage through the shrine's thousands of torii (gates). Other spots worth visiting include Gion, the home of the geishas, the golden pavilion of Kinkaku-ji and Nishiki market for street food or a traditional kaiseki feast at one of the city's local restaurants.

Marrakech, Morocco

The kaleidoscopic city may best be known for its market life, spice sellers and ancient medinas, but its reimagined riads, cool independent shops and contemporary art scene are giving it a modern edge. There are lots of places to discover – from Yves Saint Laurent’s restoration of cobalt-blue Jardin Majorelle to the smoky street-food stalls in Jemaa el-Fna.

Bondi Iceburgs, Australia

Arashiyama, Bamboo Forest, Japan

About 20 minutes outside Kyoto’s city centre is the atmospheric Arashiyama bamboo forest. Arrive at around 7am to avoid the crowds and get a chance to see and feel the wood, as well as hear it creaking in the wind. Morning light is just as ethereal, too. Arabica coffee shop is nearby, overlooking Hozugawa River.

Las Coloradas, Yucatan, Mexico

The incredible pink lakes here make up part of the protected nature reserve of Ría Lagartos Biosphere on Mexico’s Yucatán peninsula. Red-coloured algae, plankton and brine shrimp that thrive in the waters not only turn the native flamingos pink but help produce 500,000 tons of salt per year.

The Avenue of the Baobabs Madagascar

Avenue of the Baobabs, Madagascar

This is one of Madagascar's most visited natural sites – and for good reason. Aside from the spectacular photo opportunities on offer as the sun casts auburn shades on the trees, travellers come to support local conservation efforts, and spot the unique wildlife that frolics in the overgrowth nearby.

Blue Lagoon Iceland

Blue lagoon, Iceland

One of  Iceland's  most spectacular sites is, surprisingly, man-made. The Blue Lagoon's waters are a byproduct of a nearby geothermal power plant, which passes through turbines and into the lagoon. Natural geological layers account for the water's rich mineral content, which travellers use to their benefit, bathing and smothering themselves in the rich clay.

Cape Town, South Africa

Eager to spot a waddle of penguins in the wild? There's no need to save up for the ultimate excursion to Antarctica – although that's just as high on many bucket lists. On the shores of some of  South Africa's  most picturesque beaches, the animals mingle in search of a mate – safe from the fearsome great white that circle beneath the waves just metres away.

Colorado River in the Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon, USA

The Grand Canyon is part of the Colorado River basin and, aside from its beauty, is geologically significant as the waters that pass through here have revealed billions of years worth of rock layers. While it's popular with travelling day-trippers, native Americans still call it home, having first settled in the caves thousands of years ago.

Inside view on IkKil Cenote close to Chichen Itza Mexico

Cenotes, Mexico

Formed by the collapse of eroded limestone,  Mexico's  cenotes harbour secrets and beauty discovered by sunshine-chasers each year. The unique formations were celebrated by the ancient Maya people, and archaeological investigations over the years have found artefacts made from gold, jadeite, shell and more on the sandy depths.

A road poising through the desert of Joshua Tree as sunrise

Joshua Tree National Park, USA

Stone tools and spearheads discovered in Joshua Tree National Park suggest the region was inhabited as long as 8,000 years ago. Modern travellers experience this wilderness in a very different way, checking into luxurious micro-resorts and serviced holiday homes. Think the landscapes are otherworldly by day? Look to the skies at night for an altogether different, and unforgettable, sight.

Maldives

The Maldives

Spoiling retreats of all shapes and sizes litter the sandy banks of the Maldives , an archipelagic state in the Indian Ocean. Between the indulgent wellness resorts and exotic restaurants, the crystal-clear waters offer ample opportunity for snorkelling and diving excursions. Dive into the blue and find yourself in a world of kaleidoscopic colour as fish fizzle in and out of focus.

Peyto Lake in Canada

Peyto Lake, Canada

One of Canada's most beautiful and most-photographed lakes is a pool of cerulean on darker days, while its glacier waters mirror the sky's dappled blue on brighter days. Keen amblers are well rewarded as they reach Bow Summit, the highest point on the Icefields Parkway.

Argent Beach on La Digue Island Seychelles

La Digue, Seychelles

The third most populated island in  the Seychelles , La Digue takes its name from a ship in the fleet of French explorer Marc-Joseph Marion du Fresne, who visited the Seychelles in 1768. Thanks to its otherworldly granite formations, glassy waters and fine sand, Anse Source d'Argent is often regarded as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world – a spot travellers fawn over as they venture out from the island's uber-luxurious hotels and resorts.

Grand Prismatic Spring Yellowstone National Park Wyoming

Yellowstone National Park, USA

Bison, bears, geese, deer – these are just some of the animals that call the oldest national park in the world home. Each change of the seasons beckons new residents out of their homes, as many cosy up during the cold winters and await the first signs of spring. A highlight of the park is the Yellowstone Caldera, a gargantuan crater that was formed by a cataclysmic volcanic eruption some 640,000 years ago.
