This cruise line is bringing European Christmas market sailings to the US

american queen christmas market cruise

You don’t have to go all the way to Europe to take a Christmas market cruise. American Queen Voyages is teaming up with Natchez, Mississippi, to launch a series of stateside sailings inspired by the popular overseas itineraries .

The Christmas Markets Experiential Voyages will take place along the Mississippi River in 2023 and 2024.

“We are delighted to be partnering with the City of Natchez for our new Christmas Markets cruises,” American Queen Voyages President Cindy D'Aoust said in a news release. “Natchez is the quintessential Christmas town, making it the perfect place for our guests to enjoy this festive fusion of European yuletide nostalgia and authentic Southern charm.”

When are the Christmas Markets Experiential Voyages?

The cruises will sail in November and December of 2023 and 2024, beginning with a nine-day cruise on Nov. 26. The sailings will take place on the line’s American Countess and American Queen vessels, which can accommodate 245 and 417 guests, respectively.

What can guests expect from the Christmas Markets Experiential Voyages?

Natchez will host a Christmas market created especially for passengers on the cruises – though it will also be open to the public – where they can shop for holiday treats and handmade goods from local artisans.

Guests on the sailings can also warm up by bonfires, hear live carols, take photos with Santa Claus and sip drinks like hot chocolate. If you’re feeling extra festive, there will be Christmas cocktails on offer, too.

Exact ports vary by cruise, but the itineraries include New Orleans, Memphis, Baton Rouge, Vicksburg, St. Francisville and more.

How much do the Christmas Markets Experiential Voyages cost?

Prices vary by sailing, but the Nov. 26 cruise from Memphis to New Orleans currently starts at $2,499 per person based on double occupancy, according to the line’s website . The fare includes one night in a hotel before the sailing, all meals, Wi-Fi and more.

Plan A Cruise To The Christmas Market In Natchez This Holiday Season

This charming Mississippi city will welcome cruise ship visitors to what the mayor calls “the best Natchez Christmas ever.”

american queen christmas market cruise

Visit Natchez

It seems that the rest of the country is catching up to what we already know: Natchez is one of the most charming places in the South to spend the holidays . In addition to this quaint Mississippi town’s long list of cheerful holiday happenings—tours of decked-out historic homes, enchanting light displays, and a parade led by jolly ol’ St. Nick himself—Natchez will now play host to a traditional European Christmas market on behalf of cruise ship visitors.

Florida-based American Queen Voyages (AQV) just announced their grand plans to partner with the City of Natchez on select holiday voyages in 2023 and 2024. The “Christmas Markets Experiential Voyages” down the Lower Mississippi River will allow extended port calls for cruise ship guests to “stroll festive stalls decked out with holiday decor and twinkling lights,” the cruise line said in a press release. This very-merry experience will feature classic European Christmas Market staples like eggnog, fruitcake, and gingerbread alongside gifts made by local artisans.

City of Natchez / American Queen Voyages

“We are delighted to be partnering with the City of Natchez for our new Christmas Markets cruises,” said AQV president Cindy D'Aoust. “Natchez is the quintessential Christmas town, making it the perfect place for our guests to enjoy this festive fusion of European yuletide nostalgia and authentic Southern charm.”

The public Christmas market will provide a holiday tourism boost for The Little Easy, giving out-of-town visitors the opportunity to shop their Christmas lists in a meaningful and hyper-local way. "Natchez is the only city on the Mississippi River selected for this great opportunity and we are honored,” said Dan M. Gibson, Mayor of Natchez. “It will be the best Natchez Christmas ever!”

The unique Christmas Market experience is one of several celebratory journeys that cruisers can take down the Mississippi. American Queen Voyages also provides “Holiday on the River” cruises around Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s. The Thanksgiving cruise features all the fixings with a feast of roasted turkey, “a selection of Southern dressings,” sweet potato pie , and bourbon pecan pie. The New Year’s cruise allows guests to ring in the new year in style—and a bit unconventionally—toasting mid-float with champagne after a gala New Year’s Eve dinner.

The Christmas cruise takes travelers through an enchanting winter wonderland complete with carolers and seasonal classics. Three of the Christmas Market sailings will be offered in conjunction with these all-out Christmas cruises for twice the holiday cheer (New Orleans to Memphis, December 18/23/25). For those departing earlier on the Christmas Market experience, there will be special holiday elements along the trip, like a bonfire send-off along the riverbank in Nottoway, Louisiana and Giving Trees stationed at various ports.

CruiseMapper shows cruise prices per person. These are only indicative fares on the ship's lowest category staterooms. All rates are based on double occupancy (twin share) and don't include cruise line or travel agency promotions, group booking rates or any other special offers and discounts.

AQV-American Queen Voyages (fka AQSC / "American Queen Steamboat Company") draws USA river travel aficionados, culture connoisseurs, USA history buffs and traditional cuisine admirers, as its river cruises provide complimentary shore excursions that cover all these sophisticated topics.

The line also enjoys as customers younger crowds during its summer and Christmas and New Year holiday river cruise itineraries. The majority of guests are loyal to the company, so crossover between the riverboats is common.

All riverboats are with professionally trained staff and crew - all US citizens. Passengers as demographics are well-traveled, 50+ years old. They surely enjoy the boats' Victorian charm and antiques, as well as the themed onboard entertainment - from dancing to swing, big band music and the top deck's calliope performances. AQSC is also trying to add an old-fashioned splendor to the Pacific Northwest river cruising vacation travel.

American Queen to debut 'Mighty Mississippi,' Christmas market cruises

b74def63-

American Queen will offer longer sailings of the Mississippi in 2016. (American Queen Steamboat Company)

American Queen Steamboat Company, the four-year-old cruise line that offers sailings on the Mississippi, Columbia and Snake rivers, among other waterways, is introducing new itineraries and theme cruises for the 2016 season in its new brochure.

For the first time, American Queen will offer a 23-day, 22-night “Mighty Mississippi” cruise aboard its signature American Queen, a 432-passenger boat designed like the grand paddle wheelers that formerly cruised the river. The boat is now considered the largest river cruise vessel afloat.

American Queen will sail from St. Paul to New Orleans (and on the reverse itinerary) taking in almost the entire length of the Mississippi. The itinerary essentially stitches together three of American Queen’s existing itineraries on the Upper and Lower Mississippi River.

Ports visited will include St. Paul, Red Wing, La Cross, Burlington, Quad Cities, Dubuque, Clinton, Hannibal, St. Louis, Memphis, Greenville, Vicksburg, Natchez, Oak Alley and New Orleans. It will add a two-day land extension to the headwaters of the Mississippi. American Queen also features sailings on the Ohio, Tennessee and Cumberland rivers.

Ted Sykes, American Queen’s president and CEO, says the new itinerary was developed after the company began seeing European customers combine the three sailings to get a complete Mississippi cruise experience.

Beyond the new Mississippi itinerary, American Queen also will debut a new Christmas Market cruise, with the first sailing set to depart Dec. 13, 2015 and a second set to take place in December 2016. Christmas Market cruises have been offered in Europe for several years, but this is the first time one that will be featured in the U.S. The Christmas Market cruise also will feature a gala ball for all passengers at the Nottoway Plantation in White Castle, La.

The Christmas Market cruise is yet another in a series of theme cruises, which include sailings focused on  Antebellum South, Gardens of the River, Civil War, Mark Twain, Elvis, Presidents & Politics (timed to this year’s primaries and next year’s presidential election), Music of the 50s and 60s, Bourbon Trail, Autumn Colors, Country Music, Thanksgiving Festival, and New Year's Celebration…

American Queen also is introducing another full season of sailings on the Columbia and Snake Rivers in Oregon and Washington aboard the 223-passenger American Empress, another paddle wheeler that it acquired last year. The boat offers a one-way seven-day cruise from Portland, Ore., to Clarkson, Wash., and an included pre-cruise hotel stay in Spokane. Theme cruises include sailings devoted to Lewis & Clark and local winemaking.

In other news, Sykes says American Queen has reduced its 2016 brochure rates by an average of 14 percent and is also offering group savings as well. This will reduce discounting over the course of next year and has already boosted sales, he says.

The Largest Steamboat Ever Built Has 4 Festive Holiday Cruises Through the American South

American Queen Voyages is offering merry and bright itineraries along the lower Mississippi River this year — and there's still time to book.

american queen christmas market cruise

Looking for a holiday escape this year? If you're itching for an adventure on the water, but are hoping to stay stateside, American Queen Voyages has you covered with its Holidays on the River sailings on the lower Mississippi River.

From November through December, American Queen Voyages will offer four holiday-themed itineraries aboard the American Queen, the largest steamboat ever built. American Queen is 418 feet in length with six decks, across which you'll find a 19th-century-style opera house, elegant dining rooms and lounges, and a fitness center and pool. Onboard, all meals and beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) are included as is live entertainment, with caroling on the holiday sailings.

The holiday itineraries include sailings from Nashville to Memphis; Memphis to New Orleans ; and New Orleans to Memphis, as well as a round-trip sailing from New Orleans. Each is nine days long, during which the ship will make port in the Mississippi's historic cities and towns, from Natchez, Louisiana, to Paducah, Kentucky. Walking or hop-on-hop-off tours are offered at most ports, and guests can book premium excursions, from golf outings to tours of historic sites. Plus, the holiday voyages include a pre-sailing hotel stay, which gives guests even more time to explore their embarkation ports, many of which will be transformed into (mildly warm) winter wonderlands for the festive season.

In celebration of American Queen Voyages' 10th anniversary, these special itineraries also include an exclusive Creole Réveillon dinner, hosted by the cruise line's culinary ambassador Regina Charboneau, who will also host cooking demonstrations. The Réveillon is a 19th-century holiday dining tradition that features Creole, Cajun, and other Southern dishes.

So, this holiday season, if the Christmas markets on the European rivers seem just out of reach, head for one of our own backyard gems: the Mississippi. Spaces are still available on the holiday sailings and can be booked here ; rates start at $2,099 per person.

American Cruise Lines has purchased four American Queen Voyages river ships plus other assets, according to a court filing.

“American Cruise Lines is pleased to be the successful bidder for AQV’s river vessels. We look forward to announcing additional details after this portion of the Hornblower Holdings bankruptcy process concludes,” the company said in a statement.

Sale Prices:

  • American Queen: $2,150,000
  • American Empress: $1,600,000
  • American Countess: $1,600,000
  • American Duchess: $200,000

It is unknown who emerged as the buyer of the two coastal ships in the company’s fleet, the Ocean Navigator and Ocean Voyager.

Cruise line buys up the mississippi river ships from defunct american queen voyages.

American Cruise Lines has solidified its status as the Mississippi River's — and the country's — busiest river cruise provider with its purchase of all four classic paddlewheeler ships from the now-defunct American Queen Voyages.

Travel Weekly reported that the acquisitions include the 417-passenger mothership American Queen, along with smaller ships American Duchess, American Countess and American Empress. Most of these ships, inspired by 19th-century riverboats, have regularly sailed Mississippi River itineraries, including summer and fall stops in Red Wing and Winona, Minn., and La Crosse, Wis.

American Queen Voyages operated leisure cruises since 2011 on the Mississippi and its tributaries, as well as the Snake and Columbia rivers out West, but owner Hornblower Holdings abruptly shut it down on Feb. 20.

American Cruise Lines did not immediately have details on how the American Queen ships would integrate into its existing fleet of 21 cruise ships in six classes — including four paddlewheelers of its own.

"American Cruise Lines is pleased to be the successful bidder for AQV's river vessels," the company said in a brief statement. "We look forward to announcing additional details after this portion of the Hornblower Holdings bankruptcy process concludes."

We compared and contrasted the ships of American Cruise Lines, American Queen Voyages and a third line on the Mississippi, Viking River Cruises, last summer.

Group of Companies Segezha

Ru000a102xg9, forest & wood products.

  • Segezha Group : will install four bag production lines in Lobnya

One of Segezha Group's ( MOEX : SGZH, a part of Sistema PJSFC) strategic priorities is expanding its presence on the Russian domestic paper packaging market and creating new processing facilities.

The group is currently equipping a branch of Segezha Packaging LLC in Lobnya, Moscow Region , with modern bag production lines. With an investment of approximately RUB 1 billion , the new plant is designed to produce over 138 million consumer packaging units per year.

Two production lines for consumer packaging were launched in Q1 2021 with great results. The equipment is supplied by the German machine building company Garant Maschinen. The delivery of two more machines is expected in Q2, but these will be manufactured by the American-French concern Holweg Weber. The lines will make it easier to flexibly change packaging formats, including switching between flat and twist handles, all on the same equipment. In addition, in 2021 Segezha Group signed contracts for the delivery of a new slitting machine and SOMA, a Czech-produced eight-colour flexo printing machine to Lobnya, which will expand the asset's technological and printing capabilities.

Around the world, the use of paper packaging is constantly expanding. Segezha Group's products are environmentally friendly and easy to reprocess. The packaging is used at enterprises that produce dry construction mixtures, cement, chemical products, fertilizers, animal products, charcoal, and food. The holding's packaging solutions are in high demand in the retail, e-commerce, and delivery markets.

Nowadays the holding's processing assets are mastering new packaging solutions: small-format packaging and bags with windows. Our innovative 3-5 kg small-size packaging for dry construction mixtures and windowed paper bags for fruit and vegetables received the industry's Part Awards at the 25th International exhibition for the packaging industry, RosUpack, in June 2021 . The company's next innovative packaging solutions will be fully biodegradable yet impermeable bags, as well as consumer packaging using biopolymers. These plans will be facilitated by the launch of an R&D centre for packaging in Segezha this year.

Segezha Group's processing capacity has reached about 1.6 billion items per year. It has 3 plants in Russia and 7 in Europe . The Group's sales territory covers 45 countries.
