"From the blissful beaches and magical mountains, to the fun-loving locals and unforgettable food, Thailand will hold a place in your heart long after you leave."

Travel Director

Practice your skills at a traditional Thai cooking class

Discover the secrets of traditional Thai cooking in a teak wooden house surrounded by beautiful gardens and an organic farm in Chiang Mai. You’ll visit a market to sample some local delicacies, pick fresh herbs from the garden, then learn how to cook your own Thai food, including Northern Thai cuisine and classic Thai favorites.

Stroll through Pak Klong Talad market in Bangkok

Pak Klong Talad is one of the world’s most incredible flower markets, with flower species of every shape and color from all over Thailand. It’s open 24 hours and the busiest time is just after midnight, when trucks full of fresh flowers arrive and the florists begin trading to find the best bouquets for their stalls.

Meet a local monk and learn about Buddhism

Our Local Specialists will take you to Wat Suan Dok, a royal temple in Chiang Mai, where we'll meet a local Buddhist monk. It’s an incredible opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Buddhism and you’ll learn about the monk’s sacred traditions against the backdrop of the temple's striking golden chedi.

Join the locals for a graceful T'ai Chi practice

Live like a local and rise early for a peaceful T’ai Chi session in Lumpini Park. The park is a green haven with shaded lawns to practice the ancient art of T’ai Chi, and it’s a great way to ease into your day and the bustle of Bangkok.

Relax at the beachfront in Phuket

With long stretches of powdery white sands and turquoise waters, the beaches of Phuket are one of the most beautiful sights in Thailand. Relax under palm trees, go swimming or kayaking on the ocean, or dive below the water to discover brilliant sea life in protected marine parks.

Our top 5 things to do in Thailand

Our Thailand vacation packages will reveal every side of Thailand, from the Buddhist temples of Chiang Mai to the glittering beaches of Phuket.

Grand Palace

The Grand Palace is one of the most iconic sights in Bangkok and we’ll take you on a journey through this dazzling complex. See the impressive Royal Reception Halls and the revered Emerald Buddha, a Buddha image carved from a single block of jade, dating back to the 14th century.

Jim Thompson House

Located in Bangkok, the Jim Thompson House is the former home of James Thompson, an American businessman and architect. He dedicated his life to the revival of Thai silk and designed the house in 1958, with six traditional Thai-styled houses to showcase his large art collection of Thai paintings and historical Buddhist statues.

Wat Doi Suthep

Perched at the top of Doi Suthep mountain at an elevation of 3,520 feet, Wat Doi Suthep is one of the most sacred Buddhist sites in Thailand. We’ll take you up the 309 steps to find glittering shrines and statues, the holy gold plated chedi, and a sweeping view over the city of Chiang Mai.

Best museums in Thailand

Our guided trips to Thailand take you the country’s most incredible museums, from the former house of a Thai silk trader, to a sacred golden temple at the top of a mountain.

A delicious stir-fried noodle dish, Pad Thai is one of the most classic foods found in Thai street stalls. It’s a combination of egg, fish sauce, tamarind, and your choice of chicken, tofu and prawns. Top with bean sprouts and peanuts for crunch and chilli and lime juice for a zesty kick.

The most famous salad in Thailand, Som Tam is a fiery dish of shredded green papaya, tomatoes and green beans. The vegetables are mixed with fish sauce, lime juice, palm sugar and a healthy dose of chilli, and you can tailor the dish to your taste for extra sweetness or spiciness.

Green Curry

You’ll find the beloved green curry all over Thailand and our Local Specialists will show you the best spots to try this spicy coconut milk curry. Green chillies give the curry its color, and it’s filled with beans, Thai aubergines, the meat of your choice and served with steamed rice.

Best food in Thailand

The Thai cuisine is one of the best parts of a trip to Thailand and our Thai vacation packages will show you all the best places to try these beloved dishes.

What to pack for Thailand

People packing for a tour

Adaptor plug

In Thailand the standard voltage is 220 V and the power plugs and sockets are of type A, B, C, F and O. The standard frequency is 50 Hz.

Reef-safe sunscreen & insect repellent

Protect yourself from the harsh Thai sun with SPF 30 or higher and protect the coral reefs with reef-safe sunscreen. You’ll also need to pack plenty of DEET insect repellent.

In Thai culture, it’s required to remove your shoes before entering houses, temples and some shops and restaurants. Bring a comfortable pair of sandals so you can easily slip them off all day.

With plenty of islands ringed with golden shorelines and turquoise waters, you’ll definitely need a swimsuit for snorkelling, diving and blissful beach days in Thailand.

Thai phrasebook

The Thai language is unique to the country, and you’ll gain plenty of smiles and appreciation from the locals if you attempt to learn a few phrases.

Thailand - Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

The beaches make it worth visiting Thailand

Exotic, amazing, enchanting. Mere words cannot describe the joy of visiting one of the beautiful and exciting countries in Asia. The presence of numerous islands and two coastlines ensures a holiday in Thailand to be filled with various beaches. From crowded cosmopolitan beaches to secluded tropical getaways, you can really satiate your desires for the perfect beach holiday here.  Thailand is a country that has something for everyone. Whether you’re traveling alone, as a couple or with your family, a trip to Thailand will have all the right options to customize your itinerary and add attractions that suit your tastes and preferences.

Tour Highlights

  • Visit the Elephant Jungle Sanctuary just outside Chiang Mai
  • Snorkel with the fish in Maya Bay
  • Take a boat ride from Phuket to the Phi Phi Islands and Monkey Beach
  • Climb the 300 intricately carved steps to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep temple
  • Take in panoramic views from the seat of Big Buddha in Kron, Phuket
  • Float from vendor to vendor at Bangkok’ s floating markets
  • Swim beneath the waterfalls of Erawan National Park
  • Thailand’s glittery beaches are one of its biggest charms, but those golden temples are equally worthy of your time.

Travel Tips

  • The most fun way to get around Thailand is by tuk-tuk, which offers fantastic views along the way. Most of these open-air ‘taxis’ are blue and have three wheels, except for the red tuk-tuks of Phuket (some of which have sound systems and neon lights).
  • When visiting holy sites, be sure to bring a shawl so you can cover up your shoulders and knees. Also be prepared to remove your shoes before entering a temple or person’s home.
  • The most common greeting in Thailand is to bring your hands together in a prayer-like fashion and bow, accompanied with a “Sawatdee-kah” for males or a “Sawatdee-krap” for females. Be sure to return this gesture as a show of respect.
  • Thai people are extremely friendly and generous. Don’t be surprised if a local starts to strike up a random conversation, particularly in the markets.
  • Make your visit to Thailand is an ethical one. Research whether a tour company’s practices are socially responsible, particularly if visiting elephants or hill tribes.

Thailand has seasonal weather so please do check up on best time to visit Thailand before planning your tour.

Tours in Thailand - Questions and Answers

With a laid-back way of life and extraordinary cultural heritages, the shortest amount of time you should plan for any trip to Thailand is one week . In seven days, you can admire the golden pagodas of Bangkok and Ayutthaya, and choose to either kick back on the tropical beaches of the country’s south or head out to discover its northern tribal villages. However, if you were to ask us how long to spend in Thailand , we would recommend staying in the country for two weeks , since this gives you the chance to tick off most of the country’s bucket-list destinations at a leisurely pace. If you cannot make your stay last that long, then ten days make for a good compromise. If you're looking for the best Thailand tours and trips, you can find them here .

The best time to visit Thailand is between the months of November and March, which also coincides with the country’s high season. The weather is comparatively colder during this time of year, making it ideal to explore the country. If you want to avoid crowds, then make sure that you head for the country  in October. Please bear in mind that although the official monsoon season peaks in August and September, parts of the country continue receiving rainfall all through October, which puts most people off from visiting the country during this month. You can find more information here .

A western European or North American visitor to Thailand will find it one of the best countries in the world to visit on a budget . With street food and budget accommodation both keenly priced, USD 40 per person per day should cover accommodation and meal costs for frugal travelers. However, book organized tours and stay in middle to higher-range hotels and you will be looking at a daily budget of around USD 60 to USD 120 per person, per day. ATMs are widespread and operate exactly as they would at home – with English-language options.

Most western visitors do not require a visa to visit Thailand for a short term as tourists. Stays cannot be more than 30 days in one go and a total of 90 days within a six-month period. You will require a passport with at least six months remaining from your date of entry, alongside a return air ticket and proof that you have the equivalent of just over USD 600 to fund your stay. These details can be requested by customs officials on entry into the country.

The most widely spoken language in the country is Thai (Siamese), which also has its own alphabet. This can make it difficult for western travelers to communicate with the locals in the beginning. However, many Thai people also speak or understand a good amount of English, especially those living in large cities such as Bangkok, because of the language’s international importance. Few in the country expect visitors to speak any Thai, although any attempt to do so will bring smiles on the faces of those you are talking to.

The heart and soul of Thailand, Bangkok is an unmissable destination and makes for a logical first stop as it is also home to the country’s main international airport. Among the top things to do in Bangkok are visiting the reclining Buddha at Wat Pho and exploring the royal palace in the city. Beach lovers will not want to miss a trip to Ko Samui and the Phi Phi Islands, while a tour to Chiang Mai is a must for anyone interested in history and culture. For ancient wonders, look no further than the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ayutthaya . Head for Krabi if you are looking for a great mix of beach vibes and snorkeling adventures.

The memories of drifting down the muddy waters of the Mekong is sure to stay with you for years to come, while island hopping from Phuket or Krabi is another must while in the country. The tropical islands that pepper the Gulf of Thailand have been used as a shooting spot for everything from James Bond movies to ‘The Beach’. For a completely different perspective of the country, head to the north, where traditional tribal villages are located amid deep jungle and towering hills that are worth exploring. For history lovers, there are Khmer ruins waiting to be explored at Phanom Rung Historical Park along with the famous bridge on the River Kwai.

Thailand’s road network is well developed and the country’s public transport will take you almost anywhere at an inexpensive price. This is another reason why budget travelers love this country. Thailand also has more than 2,500 miles of railway, running from the border with Malaysia in the south to destinations like Chiang Mai in the north. Both are a great value for money, although neither buses nor trains are the fastest or the most comfortable means of travel. For this, you are better off organizing a car and a driver to take you from one destination to another.

best tours to thailand from usa

After breakfast our tour director hosts an orientation meeting and then we'll embark on a tour to some of Bangkok's most outstanding Buddhist temples. Buddhism is practiced by more than 94% of the country and is central to understanding Thai culture. We'll see the White Marble Temple, one of the finest example of Thai architecture; and Wat Po with its colossal 150-foot long "Reclining Buddha." Next, we'll visit the former residence of the Kings, the Grand Palace. The mile-square palace grounds feature some of the most beautiful examples of ancient Siamese architecture including the Temple of the "Emerald Buddha". The rest of our day is free to rest and relax, or consider joining an optional tour!

Day 3: Thai Markets & Sugar Palm Farm Excursion

floating market thailand

Early this morning we'll leave for the Mae Klong Railway Market. As the name suggests, this market sits on a railway and whenever a train approaches, we can expect to see a flurry of activity as baskets of wares are moved and awnings come down so the train can travel right through the heart of the market. Next, we'll drive to the colorful floating market of Damneon Saduak where we'll watch merchants sell food, produce, baskets and more from their boats. Before we return to Bangkok, we'll stop at a sugar palm farm where we can sample the local area's delights. We'll stop for lunch at a local restaurant as we make our way back to Bangkok. This evening, consider a optional Pearl Dinner Cruise.

Day 4: Bangkok – Ayutthaya – Phitsanulok

best tours to thailand from usa

Today we'll explore the ancient temple ruins and crumbling pagodas of Ayutthaya, the ancient capital of Thailand. We'll see some of the city's former glory in the giant bronze statue of Wat Mongkol Borpith and the three ancient pagodas of Wat Phra Sri. Next, is Wat Mahathat, "the Temple of the Great Relic" which was once one of the kingdom's most important temples. Here we'll see the sandstone Buddha that has become entwined in the roots of a Bodhi tree. After our visit, our journey continues past beautiful rice paddies as we drive to Phitsanulok, the gateway to northern Thailand. After check in, we are free to relax for the rest of the day or might consider joining an optional tour to a local market.

Day 5: Phitsanulok – Sukhothai – Lampang

best tours to thailand from usa

Before leaving Phitsanulok this morning, we'll stop at the famous Buddha Foundry where bronze Buddha images are cast in the increasingly rare traditional way with wax molds and molten bronze. The highlight of our day awaits us in Sukhothai. This UNESCO World Heritage Site was the capital of the first Kingdom of Siam in the 13th and 14th centuries. Next, we'll visit its sister city, Sri Satchanalai where we'll stop at a privately-owned textile Museum. The private collection featured here includes antique and handwoven textiles including a gold sarong (or pha-sin) from the royal court of Keng Tung. Afterward, we'll continue to our Lampang hotel.

Day 6: Lampang – Chiang Mai

best tours to thailand from usa

This morning, we'll visit the Saa Paper Community Project. We'll have the chance to create our own souvenirs and our visit supports this local project dedicated to preserving traditional methods used make mulberry bark paper that have been passed down from generation to generation. Our next visit takes us to Dhanabaadee Ceramic Museum, where we'll discover the evolution of ceramic-making and watch local artisans craft the traditional "chicken bowl." We'll continue to Chiang Mai where the rest of the day is free to relax or explore. We might consider joining an optional Khantoke dinner this evening.

Day 7: Chiang Mai

best tours to thailand from usa

Today we'll meet Thailand's beloved national animal, the elephant, with a full-day visit to the Elephant Nature Park. This sanctuary isn't just for elephants—it's home to buffalo, dogs, cats, birds, and many other rescued animals. We'll hear the personal stories of the rescued elephants, learn how they've come together to create a new herd free from abuse, often for the first time in their lives, and enjoy the sight of the free roaming elephants and other rescued animals in the natural surroundings of this sanctuary. Our visit supports elephant conservation in the region and allows us to slow down and learn from these majestic creatures.

Day 8: Chiang Mai

best tours to thailand from usa

Today takes us to the revered mountainside temple of Doi Suthep. Each year, Buddhist pilgrims journey to the temple on foot which can take six to eight hours! We'll skip the challenging trek and drive up the winding road instead. From our drop off point, we can choose to scale the 300 steps of the beautifully carved Naga Serpent Staircase, or ride the cable car to the summit. We'll explore the temple's beautiful architecture, statues, murals, and shrines—all of which are nothing short of breathtaking. Tonight, we'll enjoy a cooking class and delicious dinner experience together. After our cooking experience, we'll enjoy an authentic meal together followed by a traditional herb drink!

Day 9: Chiang Mai – Hmong Hill Tribe

best tours to thailand from usa

After breakfast at our hotel, we'll drive north to the Mae Rim area. On the way, we'll stop to explore the lush Araksa Tea Garden where we'll learn about the age-old traditions and tea growing processes. We'll enjoy a home-style lunch made from locally sourced and organic produce before we continue to the Hmong Hilltribe Lodge. This resort offers us a unique opportunity to experience Hmong culture in the scenic valley of the Suthep-Pui mountain range. This afternoon, we might consider an optional hike to visit villages further afield with experienced guides.

Day 10: Hmong Hill Tribe – Mae Kok – Chiang Rai

Wat Rong Khun

This morning we'll drive north to Chiang Rai via the Wiang Pa Pao. En route, we'll stop at Mae Krachan Hotspring where we can relax and soak our feet in one of the steamy pools and boil an egg in the natural springs! Our drive continues to Wat Rongkun, or the White Temple, one of Thailand's most recognizable temples, and then to Wat Huay Plakang. We'll have an unforgettable visit with the Karen Hilltribe at Baan Ruam Mid. Here, this minority group maintains their distinct culture, religion, and language by passing them down from generation to generation. After out visit, we'll board a longtail boat for a ride up the Mae Kok River to Chiang Rai where we'll check into our hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

Note: If temperatures are too warm to visit the hotspring, the group will visit a café at Wiang Pa Pao.

Day 11: Chiang Rai

best tours to thailand from usa

Today we'll drive through the narrow and scenic roads to Doi Tung Mountain, home to many local hilltribe communities. In fact, Doi Tung coffee is one of Thailand's most famous coffee brands. Next, we'll visit the Doi Tung Palace, Mae Fah Luang Garden, and then the Hall of Opium which is dedicated to portraying every angle of the opium story from its origin, the wars, the drug smugglers, the battle against growing, and the rehabilitation of the people in this former worldwide drug trading zone. The Thai Baht is the currency used in Thailand and you will need to exchange your dollars to Baht. Try to avoid major banks and popular tourist areas as you tend to get the worst exchange rates. Super Rich is the most famous money exchange company in Bangkok with several branches across the city; you must have your passport with you to exchange money in Bangkok. Tipping is not a common practice in Thailand and is not customary. There is no requirement to tip but small gratuities for great service are appreciated, and most restaurants and hotels will include a 10% service charge on your bill. Thai Experience

Just finished the 13 day Thai experience tour and would 100% recommended to anyone. On day one we were greeted by our tour leader Dan and made to feel welcome by him from minute 1. Dan went above and beyond to make sure that we all had settled in well and made it a trip of a lifetime. He was very knowledgable about Thailand and knew his way around with ease. A special mention to him for going out his way and adding an extra activity by taking us all to Songkran festival which was genuinely one of the best days of the tour!

I had an amazing time with G Adventures! The itinerary was perfect; there was a lot to do and see, but it wasn't overwhelming and there was a lot of free time provided. My guide, Prem, was one of the sweetest, loveliest people I've ever met! She is brilliant at her job, and brings so much enthusiasm to work. She is extremely knowledgeable, and was always willing to share her knowledge with the group. Miss her so much already!

South to North - 15 days

From my experience of Feel Free Travel when visiting Sri Lanka; joining them again in Thailand was a no brainer for me! From stepping off the plane & having the unforgettable tiktok taxi driver sensation to the hotel I knew this was going to be a trip id never forget ???? Jamie was there to welcome me & within an hour or so Mr Jonny F Lodge joined the party…These guys quickly became friends over tour guides & my first few days in Bangkok set up my expectations for the rest of the trip. Fun, friends and feeling freeee. To have 2 guides at first made me confused on who to approach for information but open chats & their friendly manner made it apparent how lucky (manifested) I was to have BOTH these rounded; supportive; fun and caring individuals…Jonny & Jamie looking after me. Feel Free offers the opportunity to meet new people within a safe and fun environment…all the activities are well organised and thought out and the accomodation is second to none. I had the best time, i made friends who 100% feel like family and moments i will cherish forever. Thailand was a lot more party for me & being the “old bird” of the group I was unsure how id get on…i was made to feel so included & that age definitely is just a number. We laughed, “cried” and occasionally slipped in the pool (but had Jonny to help us so no worries there ????????) I cannot recommend Feel Free and Thailand enough and if you happen to have Jonny or Jamie as your guides/friends then count yourself blessed. Roll on the next one & hopefully a reunion from countries far and wide.

I've just finished the 9 days trip to Thailand and I've just loved it!!! Both of our group leaders (Jamie and Ash) are amazing! Always super friendly, caring, fun, willing to help and organised. I knew I could always count on them if needed! The itinerary was brilliant too! All the activities were fun and/or interesting and I've seen beautiful places. I've also been extremely happy with the group of people I met, everyone was super pleasant and friendly! I could not have asked for a better experience!

Tour guide and driver were nice, professional. Tour is worth it for first time visiting Thailand. Tour description could have more details. I.e. on the last day in Chang Mai, tour description doesn't clearly state that Queen Sirikit Bot Garden is included. I almost booked it separately. It would have been a duplicate. By the way, Queen Sirikit Bot Garden is not worth it in Nov. Destination Service should be clearer on how/where/when visitor would have transportation/pickup/transfer. I had to send many messages via TourRadar, but still didn't get clear information.

He made us all feel safe and well looked after for the whole of the trip and always made us laugh :) Gogi took lots of good pictures for the group and was always very positive and optimistic! He made all of our time in Thailand one to remember and I definitely won’t forget the experience. Thank you so much Gogi!! Noni - Noni was such a good tour guide and a great addition to the group! Because the group was quite big I think it was a great help having him there. Noni is so funny and could always make us laugh. He made he feel safe and comfortable at all times and I am going to miss him very much! Thank you so much Noni!!

Overall my experience was excellent. The tour started out poorly because Intrepid had planned the tour to begin in Bangkok during a holiday period. The palace was closed because the king was in town (Intrepid should have known this and we did not get to see the palace) and the traffic getting out of Bangkok was very bad. It took 4 hours to go 78 miles. After that, the tour was as expected and very good.

Bangkok travel FAQs

Do i need a covid-19 vaccine to join an intrepid trip.

Trips from 1 January 2023 onwards

From 1 January 2023, Intrepid will no longer require travelers to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 (excluding all Polar trips and select adventure cruises).

However, we continue to strongly recommend that all Intrepid travelers and leaders get vaccinated to protect themselves and others.

Specific proof of testing or vaccination may still be required by your destination or airline. Please ensure you check travel and entry requirements carefully.

Do I need a visa to visit Thailand?

Travelers with passports from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States are exempt from a tourist visa if they are traveling for 30 days or less. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from entry to Thailand.

If you plan on staying longer as a tourist, or if you are traveling for a reason, such as study or business, you may need a visa.

The page is for general information only and may be subject to change. It is your responsibility to obtain relevant visa and travel information required for entry, departure and travel to each country or region you visit on your trip. You should confirm these with the relevant embassies and/or consulates.

When is the best time to visit Thailand?

Thailand's climate is generally hot, humid and at times (like other South-East Asian countries) monsoonal. The seasons differ from coast to coast, so depending on which areas you're visiting, the weather can vary.

Thailand's north, east and west are great to visit from November to February, when the weather is cooler and dryer. If heading south, it's best to travel from January to April as these months provide conditions optimal for diving and snorkeling. This is peak time, however, so be aware that popular places like Chiang Mai, Ko Samui and Phuket can get particularly busy. It can also get quite busy from July to August as it's the northern hemisphere school holidays.

The monsoon season is from July to November, so it can get quite wet and the weather may be uncomfortably hot and humid for those who aren't accustomed to it. Yet traveling during this time can provide a different picture of Thailand, and is generally a less crowded time of year. March to June is less wet but is the hottest time in terms of temperatures. If you don't mind the heat then this can be a good time to go on holiday to Thailand to avoid the crowds.

Can I drink the tap water in Thailand?

Drinking tap water isn’t recommended in Thailand. Avoid drinks with ice and make sure to peel fruit before eating it. Help the environment and try to avoid buying bottled water. Instead, fill a reusable water bottle with filtered water. Your leader or hotel can tell you where to find filtered water.

Do I need to purchase travel insurance before traveling?

Absolutely. All passengers traveling with Intrepid are required to purchase travel insurance before the start of their trip. Your travel insurance details will be recorded by your leader on the first day of the trip. Due to the varying nature, availability and cost of health care around the world, travel insurance is very much an essential and necessary part of every journey.

For more information on insurance, please go to: Travel Insurance

Is tipping customary in Thailand?

Tipping isn’t customary in Thailand, but feel free to leave restaurants, drivers or service workers a small tip if the service has been particularly good. It’s always appreciated.

United states of america – a visa exempt country.

If you ask people about traveling to Thailand, you will often hear the word VISA. US Citizens are fortunate because USA is included in Thailand’s Visa Exemption list.

American citizens can enter Thailand as a tourist for up to 30 days without needing a pre-approved Thai visa. Visitors from the USA can organize a 30-day period of stay when landing at one of Thailand’s international airports. This 30-day stay is often referred to as a “Visa on arrival”.

If 30 days is not long enough after two years of isolation There are many options for American citizens to visit (or move to) Thailand on a longer-term basis with a Thai Visa. US Citizens must obtain a Thai visa for stays longer than 30 days.

Long Term Visas for Americans

How to get to Thailand in 2023

Entering thailand from us.

Thailand Pass is no longer required from July 1. Americans do not need to register in systems, provide documents for COVID 19 vaccinations, or seek pre-approval before traveling to Thailand. When American citizens visit Thailand, they need to look at their vaccination status and plan accordingly.

Vaccinated Travelers – Vaccinated travelers from the US do not need to complete any Covid tests before leaving America. No vaccination certificate is required. Children under 18 have no restrictions for entry.

Unvaccinated Travelers – Will I be denied entry if I am unvaccinated? No, unvaccinated travelers from the US do not need to complete any Covid tests before leaving America. No vaccination certificate is required

With the removal of Thailand Pass post COVID-19 restrictions, airlines and immigration officers no longer conduct random checks of passengers to confirm Covid requirements are met. No need to have your Vaccination or Covid Test certificate available for show. All travel restrictions have been removed and are no longer in effect.

Airlines and Booking Flights

Flights from the United States to Thailand are available from many airlines. The following airlines are operating and are available for travelers to book flights from the United States to Thailand:

  • All Nippon Airlines
  • Cathay Pacific
  • Qatar Airways
  • Etihad Airways
  • Japan Airlines
  • Singapore Airlines
  • KLM Royal Dutch Airlines

All mandatory quarantine was removed from July 1, 2022. On social media, you may hear the term “sealed flights”. These are no longer required, so US citizens are free to enter Thailand at any international airport and then transit domestically anywhere in Thailand.

The Thailand Pass was removed and is no longer in effect. Airlines no longer are required to check passengers’ documents before boarding.

Organize Your Travel Insurance

Since the change of July 1, 2022, the common question asked about travel is, “Do I need Travel Insurance?”

The fact is that from July 1, 2022, Thailand does not require foreign visitors to have insurance with Covid cover. Travelers do not need to provide any proof of insurance in order to enter Thailand.

Before Covid, seasoned travelers understood the benefits of comprehensive travel insurance. Covid has not changed this. Though travel restrictions have eased, Covid is still a problem, and if diagnosed with Covid while traveling, an American citizen will still be required to isolate in a hotel or quarantine in a medical facility. This can ruin any holiday, especially if you need to budget for potential medical expenses.

The important thing to know about insurance and Thailand is that foreigners are not eligible for any form of free medical care. No matter the circumstance, if an American needs medical attention, they need to pay for it. Depending on the severity, this could amount to thousands of dollars in out-of-pocket costs.

Travel Insurance to Thailand is something that is better to have and not need, then need and not have. Your Thailand travel insurance doesn’t just cover Covid. Comprehensive travel insurance will also cover:

  • Medical emergencies
  • Personal injury & accidents
  • Missed or delayed flights
  • Damage to belongings
  • Loss of luggage

There are multiple reasons to protect yourself when traveling. Many visitors to Thailand choose AXA Insurance Thailand. It is a trusted company that offers comprehensive insurance to travelers from around the world. Their policies are straightforward with good coverage.

Some advantages to AXA Insurance are:

  • Recognized and trusted by Thai authorities and medical facilities.
  • Easy to apply online and approved in minutes.
  • Competitive pricing and cover.
  • Has no 14 day waiting period and covers Covid-related incidents, including asymptomatic cases.
  • Provides customers with a convenient 1-Page Certificate of insurance. This certificate contains all relevant information needed by medical professionals or if making a claim.

To see the cover offered and organize your insurance to Thailand in minutes. Visit AXA Thailand .

Finding Accommodation in Thailand

Thailand is popular as a holiday destination because of its diverse geography. People can visit and lounge of a beach, go diving on the islands, or visit the mountains and lose themselves in nature.

There is accommodation everywhere, and US travelers can spend a night somewhere beautiful for less than a meal back home. Common travel destinations are Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Pattaya, Koh Samui and Hua Hin .

After July 1, 2022, visitors are welcome to book any accommodation. There is no need to book SHA+ hotels or quarantine packages. SHA+ quarantine packages have been removed from most booking sites.

Now that Thailand Pass is removed, visitors don’t need to provide any proof of a hotel booking before entering Thailand. But after a long flight, it’s nice to have at least your first night’s accommodation organized. It is good to see what is around in your travel area, and if you are a “planner”, you can use hotels to help decide places to visit.

To find and compare the best hotels available in Thailand, visit Agoda . They allow free booking and cancellation, confirm bookings with hotels and their web page is easy to navigate and compare hotels. You can book any accommodation in Thailand, and many hotels are offering competitive prices to welcome holiday makers back.

Arriving in Thailand – Best Practices

So what can you expect when landing in Thailand? Travel to Thailand is back to normal. Americans are again being welcomed by Thai locals and post-Covid experiences are being created.

Here are a few things that will help you enjoy your trip and show respect to local Thai people.

Wearing Masks

From July 1, 2022, masks are no longer compulsory, but still recommended when in public places. You see that many Thai people (and visitors) still wear masks when out and about. It is recommended to wear a mask when visiting restaurants, tourist areas or public venues. You will not get in trouble for not wearing a mask. It’s a case of “do as the locals do”. It is about respect and consideration.

TM6 Arrival Cards

The Thai government has temporarily removed the need for visitors to complete the blue arrival card known as TM6. Their aim is to ease congestion at airports and remove another form that holiday makers need to complete. This initiative is in a testing phase, but it is hoped that the removal of TM6 will be successful and the change will become permanent.

Paperwork to Prepare

Though Thailand Pass is removed, and travelers do not need to provide proof before entry, it is recommended that passport holders prepare a few documents before arrival in Thailand.

  • A copy of your Travel Insurance
  • Hotel booking or address of stay
  • Boarding Pass with your flight number and travel date clearly identified
  • Thai Visa, if you stay in Thailand is over 30 days.
  • Covid-19 medical and vaccination records are optional

These documents can be presented in digital form, but airlines, Immigration and Health Officers will appreciate the extra effort if you print them.

Do’s and don’ts when visiting thailand.

Thailand Travel

Thailand is a country with rich cultural traditions and a strong sense of social etiquette. Here are some dos and don’ts to keep in mind when visiting:

  • Show Respect to the Monarchy : Thai people have a deep respect for their royal family, and it’s important for visitors to show the same respect. Never speak ill of the monarchy.
  • Wai Properly : The ‘Wai’ is a traditional Thai greeting involving a slight bow, with the palms pressed together in a prayer-like fashion. It’s a sign of respect and is commonly used when greeting, thanking, or apologizing.
  • Respect Buddhist Monks : Monks are highly respected in Thailand. Always give them space, and do not touch them if you are a woman.
  • Remove Your Shoes : Take off your shoes when entering someone’s home and even in certain shops or guesthouses.
  • Dress Appropriately : Dress modestly, especially when visiting temples. Shoulders and knees should be covered.
  • Stay Calm : Keep your cool, even in frustrating situations. Raising your voice or showing anger is considered losing face, and it’s highly frowned upon. Be patient with drivers of metered taxis. Always use the meter and exit if they refuse to do so.
  • Use Polite Language : Use ‘ka’ (for women) or ‘krup’ (for men) at the end of sentences to be polite.
  • Practice Good Table Manners : Wait for the eldest person to start eating first, and try a bit of everything.
  • Be Respectful with Your Feet : Feet are considered the lowest part of the body in Thai culture. Do not point them at people or religious objects.
  • Support Sustainable Tourism : Engage in responsible and sustainable tourism practices to help preserve the country’s natural and cultural heritage.
  • Don’t Touch Someone’s Head : The head is considered the most sacred part of the body, and it should not be touched.
  • Don’t Point Your Feet : As mentioned before, feet are considered lowly, so don’t point them at people or religious objects.
  • Don’t Show Public Displays of Affection : Keep public displays of affection to a minimum as they can be considered disrespectful.
  • Don’t Take Photos in Restricted Areas : Be mindful of signs that prohibit photography, especially in religious or sacred sites.
  • Don’t Engage in Illegal Activities : This includes drug use and purchasing counterfeit goods. Don’t remove Buddha images from the country.
  • Don’t Disrespect Religious Objects or Sites : Always show respect at temples and other religious sites.
  • Don’t Touch Artifacts or Relics : In museums and historical sites, refrain from touching artifacts unless explicitly allowed.
  • Don’t Feed the Monkeys : If you encounter monkeys, do not feed them as it can lead to aggressive behavior.
  • Don’t Litter : Dispose of your trash responsibly and avoid using single-use plastics.
  • Don’t Engage in PDA at Religious Sites : Even more so than in public, avoid public displays of affection at temples and other religious sites.

By following these guidelines, you can help ensure that your visit to Thailand is enjoyable and respectful of the local culture and traditions.

Top tips for finding cheap flights to Thailand

  • Enter your preferred departure airport and travel dates into the search form above to unlock the latest Thailand flight deals.
  • Due to its proximity to Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand, Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) is a popular destination airport for most passengers flying from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Thailand. Indirect flights with a single layover at Tokyo International Airport (HND) on carriers like ANA and THAI are an option for passengers flying this route.
  • Travelers who come hail from the east coast region of the United States prefer to fly to Thailand from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Phuket International Airport (HKT). When using this flight route, passengers can take indirect flights with a single layover at Dubai International Airport (DBX) on airlines like Emirates and Qatar Airways.
  • Travelers from the central United States that intend to fly to Thailand typically use Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW ) as their departure airport. Many indirect flights with a single layover at Heathrow Airport (LHR) on different airlines, including British Airways and THAI, are accessible from this airport to Suvarnabhumi Airport.
  • If you're flying to one of the northern cities in Thailand, the Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX), which serves Chiang Mai Province, might be a better airport option. John F. Kennedy International Airport offers two-stop flights with stopovers at Heathrow and Suvarnabhumi Airports, on a variety of airlines to CNX, with Virgin Atlantic and Bangkok Airways being the most popular.
  • Take one of the indirect flights with a single layover at Heathrow Airport offered by EVA Air, China Airlines, or JAL from Seattle Tacoma International Airport (SEA) to Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) if you plan to fly to Thailand from the northwest of the United States.
  • Thailand has over 10 international airports because it is surrounded by several countries and due to its unique geography. Flights originating from the US to the country will arrive at one of three airports: Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK) and Don Mueang International Airport (DMK), both in the capital city of Bangkok, and Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX) in the northern part of the country.
  • The northern part of Thailand is dominated by the provinces of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, both of which are within reach of Chiang Mai Airport. However, only flights from San Francisco Airport (SFO) use this hub, so if you arrive at either of the Bangkok Airports, you’ll have to arrange a connecting flight to either Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai Airport (CEI) to get there.
  • The Isan Region represents the eastern part of Thailand and there are four major cities there, including Khon Kaen, Nakhon Ratchasima and Udon Thani. Suvarnabhumi Airport is close to Nakhon Ratchasima, but the other cities are at least a 5h drive away, so flying into Udon Thani International Airport (UDD) will definitely save travel time that can be used to discover the region.
  • The popular resort island of Phuket and its world-class beaches lies almost 500 mi from Bangkok, but despite the distance, it’s cheaper to fly into Bangkok and get a connecting flight to Phuket International Airport (HKT) than to fly directly to Phuket. Therefore, you may wish to factor that into your travel plans when booking your flight from the US to Thailand.
  • Families traveling on holiday to Bangkok will want to check out KidZania, a miniature city tailormade for children to enjoy. KidZania is less than a 30m drive from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Siam Paragon downtown.

Top 5 airlines flying to Thailand

The flight crews were extremely professional, helpful, and courteous. Departure and arrival times were accurate. No delay. I will use K airline again. Thanks

I enjoyed flying on Korean Air. The service was great and the food was yummy, especially the bibimbap and cold spicy noodles. The only thing that bummed me out on this red-eye flight was that my seat did not properly recline so I was not able to sleep.

Great crew, decent food Charging plugs were broken on both seats next to me. Only the USB port was available, and that charges, very, very slowly. Seat was also broken, it would not lock into position when reclining.

Korean Air had great service and the Bibimbap dish was the best airplane food I’ve ever had. It was a long flight so in between the two meals they served customers could get Shin ramen. The flight attendants let my children use a pair of nice headphones for the flight and had earbuds and slippers for all the adults. The flight was long but the time passed by relatively quickly because they have many great shows in their entertainment TV. I watched the BTS Love Yourself and Speak Yourself concerts 💜

not too bad but not too great either. Service on all airlines declined ever since covid. Your Delta Stewardess are not that friendly at all. :-(

You did not put me on a Korean Air flight! so I do not have nothing to say

My flight was diverted to Atlanta and I was not given enough time. I paid my travel on April 23, 2023. It was originally Delta from Norfolk to NY, then Korean Air from NY all the way Philippines which is my final stop. Instead from Atlanta to Korea I flew Delta which is okay. Then Korea to Philippines, I flew Asiana Airlines. What I did not like, Ieagle did not sent me an email that my flight was change and so when I went to check in Wednesday the 10th, at 4:30 a.m they told me my flight was delayed at 6;00 p.m and diverted in Atlanta and I am flying Asiana from Korea to Philippines. I do not appreciate that Kayak or Ieagle chenge our flights 5 times and then last minute change again during my day of flight. I hope that you will not make any changes of my flight o Feb 15th because it has to be the same flight with my husband. That is the reason why we made the arrangements early on.

Wonderful cabin crew!!!!! Food was poor, in flight entertainment was just ok. They need to serve more water on a 15 hour flight--we were dehydrated and kept asking for water.

Going through security a third time to get on the next flight was again utterly ridiculous and unnecessary. We were in a International secure area once again and as far as I'm concerned should not have been put through the gears for absolutely no reason. The United States can get all the information they need from the travel itinerary, there was no need to be forced out of a secure area to personally interview everyone on a connecting flight to find out their US immigration status.

Flight arrived early, fantastic, since it is short flight, no food being served

Fast and efficient boarding. Flight was on time. Service was very good for our long flight. First time flying with this airline and I would highly recommend.

Eva Air's Business Class is pretty decent. With the given price, I think that the food can be better.

Pleasant, comfortable, and entertaining. All told, ZERO issues with it. And sadly, so far the flight was WAY more comfortable than the hellhole that is "Lambug Beach Resort" at Badian Beach!

It was a pleasant fly with Eva Air from NYC to Taipei. The crew were friendly and the food was exceeded my expectation.

Eva air is a good airline. The seats on the way to Taipei could have certainly been more comfortable, but all in all it was a pretty good experience.

Boarding is fast and easy for economy class, food was ok baggage policies are good

Overall the flight was what might be expected for a long haul flight to Asia in economy class. The cabin crew was attentive and the food was good. Boarding was fairly fast and easy. The one thing I found frustrating was the EVA app. It is terrible. Trying to do anything on it was almost impossible.

EVA would not help with ticket issue since they were purchased through a travel agency. Even though it was EVA ticket stock. Travel agency Budget Air didn't reissue ticket after airline change which I didn’t learn until trying to checkin on Christmas Day and there was no contact number for the agency to help. I will never use Budget Air to purchase flight again and disappointed in EVA’s refusal to help. Thankfully just under 12 hrs before departure someone from the agency was available to reissue tickets. I was starting to think we would not be flying and the stress trying to resolve was completely unacceptable.

seamless check in/ friendly staff, food is good, always love flying Eva Air

Very uncomfortable and crowded seats in economy. Flight attendant refused request to move to nearby unused seat with more legroom because “It was more money for that seat”. It was also near impossible to reach airline directly by phone. Waits upwards of an hour and not very helpful customer service representatives after long wait. Cannot recommend this airline.

Decent flight, staff was very good, especially with the turbulence during the flight due to weather. Comfort was about par with other airlines but since it was a quick flight, was not much of an issue for us.

It was a 2 hour flight to Taiwan. Lunch was served. China Airlines goes above and beyond for their passengers.

Liked that I could pick my seat and have a special meal without an extra charge. Luggage is reasonable for overseas trip. What could have been better is boarding and leaving on time.

They were helpful, considerate with asking us for standby preboarding with our infant, gave us toys and excellent service onboard. They were always on time, even early boarding once! All our luggage arrived intact, and they even brought our baby car seat to oversized for us. We love China Airlines!

Better training to have qualified crews and services. My flight was from around 12 midnight Friday Taipei to Vancouver. After two hours first meal (2:00 Am -8:00 ) no crew available for even asking for some water. I was even willing to pay for water. For breakfast after 8 hours the only drink was tea and coffee no water or juice.

3 of the 4 flights had delays despite the weather being fine, but still managed to make all connections

Ask flight attendant for water during flight and she was a little rude get the water.

Staff were good and nice. There should me 3 meals instead of only 2 and snacks.

Flight was delay almost 2 hours from Hong Kong to Taipei. Last minute gate change from 24 to 66. Long way walk. We need to run in the Taipei airport to catch our next flight from Taipei to Vancouver. That is so suck!

For a long-haul flight, the crew did a very good job of keeping the lavatories clean and the aisles clear.

Made the Atlanta to Pittsburgh trip many times, with Delta no issues

I always fly with Delta. My friends tell me their horror stories of flying with other airlines. I just smile and say, “You should fly Delta”

I'm a larger, athletic guy (6'2", 260lbs powerlifter) and I found the seats incredibly uncomfortable with minimal leg room, especially in a window seat. Now, I full understand that being smaller may change my view but even if I was 80lbs less, my legs would be the same size and I was sandwiched between my seat and the seat in front of me.

Horrible. This was not first class. This was a connecting flight whi h was late. My original flight never came. I hated the fact that delta gave me a connecting flight from New York to Orlando Florida. No meals and the television screens were not working. There wasn't even any power to charge your phones. This is NOT FIRST CLASS DELTA!!! Do better next time!

This flight was ridiculous. I had to have a connecting flight from New York to orlando Florida??? The flight left late and because it was a short flight there was no first class amenities. I had one alcohol drink. The flight crew was fine, but it sure did not feel like first class. Delta to me dropped the ball by giving me a connecting flight. By the time we got to Raleigh we would have missed the next flight. Lucky for me the flight never came so now I was stuck waiting for a later flight that came in late also.

Our flight was delayed in Atlanta. The staff could have gave us an explanation for the delay and how long it would be.

I liked the ease of checking in, luggage check in, wheel chair assistance, boarding and flight.

On my way home I had a layover. The flight from ATL to CLT was amended 5x while I was waiting. I could have driven home sooner. Overall from Dallas, Tx to Charlotte, NC I started my trip at 4:30pm, I didn’t get home until past midnight. I know things happen, but 5x to make me run back and forth in an airport from different terminals is excessive. I also upgraded to comfort + , I didn’t feel it was worth it. There was no benefit

They did a fine job. Can't wait to use Delta in the future.

Operated by American Airlines. Very chaotic and the crew was bit rough responding any enquiries. Restricted leg space.. Qatar would have been better

Qatar airways from Doha to guangzhau was excellent big bird Boeing 777 more room and smoothly flight, I Love it

It was good no problems made it on time for the next flight overseas!

The made us waiting and held our passports and boarding pass making us miss our flights

Not impressed. Only allowed one carry on on such a long flight.

The flight was good but my neighbor had the vent open full power for the whole flight and because the air was blowing from the side instead of from the top and I got very cold and ended up with a sore throat.

Bad experience with the delay n long wait time for connecting flight after missing the connection flight from Doha.

Wore experience due to delay and took me 3 days to reach my destination.

All over with Qatar airlines my experience was really bad due to delays and then putting me on different airlines and after 8 hours of wait I had to listen to their is no plane to fly for another 24 hours. Wore experience ever.

Excellent will be flying again in May with Qatar. to Botswana.

8 Best Destinations to Combine with a Visit to Thailand

If you are planning to book a long-haul journey to Thailand and have a few extra days on your itinerary, why not book a 2- or 3-day trip to a neighboring country?

For some vacationers, getting to Southeast Asia is a rarity, so fitting another country and whole new culture into the same vacation is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

In this guide, we will look at some of Thailand's most popular neighboring countries. You can choose to visit just one of them, or fit in two or three additional destinations and get a broader perspective of what Southeast Asia has to offer.

  • Top Things to Do: In addition to exploring the ancient temples of Hanoi and cruising through the breathtaking Ha Long Bay, consider venturing to the ancient town of Hoi An, where lantern-lit streets and centuries-old architecture create a magical atmosphere. Don't miss the opportunity to cruise the Mekong Delta, immersing yourself in the local way of life.
  • Visa Requirements: Most travelers to Vietnam require a visa for tourism purposes. You may apply for a visa at the Vietnamese embassy or consulate in your home country or through the official online visa application system.

Best neighborhoods to visit in Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai's neighborhoods each have their own mix of history-steeped streets, lively nightlife and tranquil temples to explore © HoneyBee201306 / Getty Images

Often called Thailand’s “Capital in the North,” the mountainside city of  Chiang Mai is an idyllic destination with bundles on offer across its rich and varied neighborhoods.

The lush green scenery and ancient architecture captures the hearts of visitors, as does the range of things to do – you’re never far away from a forested waterfall, a medieval temple or a fantastic jazz club.

This low-rise metropolis has a bustling center and the best neighborhoods to visit are just a short distance apart. It’s easy to get from A to B using songthaew minivans or taxi-hailing apps, so staying in one place when visiting is the best way forward, because nothing is too far away.

Here are the best neighborhoods to explore in Chiang Mai.

Many people walking down a street towards Wat Phra Sing in Chiang Mai's Old City during the Songkran festival

Best neighborhood for history

At Chiang Mai’s heart is its ancient center. Surrounded by an impressive, wide moat, the walled Old City buzzes with life and activity. Buddhist temples such as the red-brick Wat Chedi Luang , teak-decked Wat Phan Tao and gold-leafed Wat Phra Singh are on every main road. Large museums including Lanna Folklife Museum  and Chiang Mai City Arts & Cultural Center  also keep history-loving tourists busy.

Just 1.5km (1 mile) in length and breadth, the Old City is great to amble around on foot or by bicycle, stopping whenever something catches your eye. It’s not just for culture vultures; this neighborhood is awash with pretty cafes and some of the liveliest nightlife spots in the city, from the classy North Gate Jazz Co-op to the raucous Zoe in Yellow . It’s a great place to be based on your first visit if you like to be in the thick of it.

The Old City's temples are among the best free things to do in Chiang Mai

A handful of street food stalls are set up in the courtyard of the One Nimman retail complex, and people are sitting at picnic tables and eating.

Best neighborhood for restaurants

A relatively new neighborhood to the west of the Old City, Nimman (short for Nimmanhaemin) is packed with boutique hotels and modern condo buildings. The drinking and dining options boomed around the influx of residents and consequently it’s become a busy evening destination, full of bars and restaurants.

Every possible cuisine is done very well here. Choose from the quintessentially Northern Thai noodle dishes at Kao Soy Nimman and Ginger Farm Kitchen , or international spots covering Chinese, Indian, Italian and Korean food – and of course there's burgers galore. Nimman is also home to award winning coffee roasters Roast8ry Lab and Ristr8to Original , and the brilliant vegan community hub Free Bird Cafe .

Best neighborhood for local bars

Directly north of Nimman (but with distinctly fewer tourists) sits Santitham. This is a busy local neighborhood, where the daytime sees a steady traffic thanks to the cafes, schools, gyms and camera repair shops. But it’s the bars and clubs that you should check out here, ready to keep you busy until the small hours.

Yawk Bar is the spot to watch sports or just enjoy a few beers, while Santitham Plaza has a bunch of large open-air venues that are always busy and fun on the weekends – the best in that square is Chang Hi Bar. EDM heads will appreciate BLU CNX . Alternatively, just wander around and pull up a chair at one of the countless small roadside spots; most aren’t listed on Google Maps.

Best neighborhood for peace and quiet

Driving into Jed Yot from the highway feels like you’re not in the city at all. The road twists and turns through green fields and quiet back streets that are framed by the verdant Suthep mountain range. This peaceful neighborhood is set apart from the nightlife in Nimman, and it's a 10- to 15-minute drive from the Old City, but the distance means cheaper and quieter stays.

That’s not to say it’s a dull area; Jed Yot is home to one of the oldest temples in the city, Wat Chet Yot , which is unique due to its Indian-influenced architectural style. There’s also a number of great museums:  Chiang Mai National Museum , Sbunnga Textile Museum and the Highland People Discovery Museum , which gives an awesome introduction to the lives of the diverse hill tribes who populate the north of Thailand.

Chinatown and Night Bazaar

Best neighborhood for street food

Just west of the Ping River sits Chiang Mai’s vibrant Chinatown, the 19th-century trading post that’s still thriving today. The main attraction, Warorot Market (also known as Kad Luang), is a large indoor shopping hub that spreads across two blocks. It's full to the brim with clothes, homewares and, most importantly, food stalls galore, both Thai and Chinese. It’s a great area to base yourself if you love big community vibes and great, cheap eats, all just 1km (0.6 miles) from Pratu Tha Phae , the Old City’s east entrance gate.

Directly below Chinatown is the Night Bazaar zone. The bazaar itself is a souvenir market and the area is full of great restaurants. It's also home to two of the most LGBTQI+ friendly spots, Ram Bar and 6ixcret , where elegant drag performers sing and dance pop hits until the small hours.

Best neighborhood for riverside hangouts

Along the eastern flank of the Ping River, the Wat Ket neighborhood is lined with old wooden houses and warehouses from bygone years – squint and you could be in the 1950s. On the riverbank are laid-back bars, restaurants and cafes like Good View and The Riverside , where you can graze the days away. Come back in the evening to see the nightlife here buzz, particularly on the weekends when locals and visitors enjoy the live music and dance floors.

Wat Ket is a great area to stay in, full of character and generally a bit cheaper as it’s set back from the old city.
