Vietnam Tours & Vacations
Vietnamese food is where it’s at.
Wherever we travel, it’s the flavors we remember best. A crusty bánh mì or streetside pho, seafood cù lao hotpots and (scarily addictive) coffee with condensed milk. Vietnam tours are tasty, plain and simple. We won’t just drop you in Halong Bay and call it a day. Our local leaders will introduce you to rice farmers in Sapa and fishermen on the Mekong Delta. They’ll guide you through the Cu Chi Tunnels, take you to the best beaches and on a street food crawl through Ho Chi Minh City. Our stomach’s rumbling already...

History and government, early history.
Vietnam has been inhabited since prehistoric times. Archaeological finds suggest that structured societies existed as early as the 1st millennium BC. Early society was mostly feudal and agriculture-based, with various dynasties overseeing different parts of Vietnam until the Chinese invasion of 111 BC, which saw the societies of Vietnam and China intertwined. Various Chinese dynasties dominated the area for hundreds of years, although revolts finally led to Vietnam gaining self-autonomy in 905. By 938, this period of Chinese imperial domination came to a close and Vietnam entered into an age of independence.
Recent history
During the 19th century, Vietnam came under the influence of French colonizers, who assumed control of Vietnam after the Sino-French War of 1884 and 1885. French Indochina was formed in 1887, and included parts of Vietnam, Cambodia and, later on, Laos. Although the French managed to suppress internal movements towards independence for many years, their control was finally relinquished in 1954 when Vietnamese forces overcame the French during the first Indochina War. Following this war, Vietnam was divided, with separate forces ruling the north (led by Ho Chi Minh) and the south (led by Ngo Dinh Diem, with support from the United States).
The second Indochina War created wide-scale devastation and turmoil for the people of Vietnam, leading to mass migration to other parts of the world as asylum seekers tried to escape the conflict. More recently, Vietnam has benefited from the free market economy set up in 1986. Vietnam's economy continues to expand, with agriculture and industry providing the backbone and the tourism sector also contributing. Although many Vietnamese people live below the poverty line, there have been widespread improvements in literacy and health, which hopefully will continue to improve.
Geography and environment
Occupying a long, thin part of the Indochinese peninsula, Vietnam shares borders with China , Laos and Cambodia . Much of Vietnam's terrain is mountainous, particularly the north and central highland regions. Although people still choose to live in the densely forested highland regions, most of Vietnam's population is concentrated in the cities of the low-lying areas, where infrastructure is more easily built and the land is fertile. One of the 12 great rivers of the world, the Mekong, runs through Vietnam and has been responsible for wide-scale flooding. A system of canals and levees has been quite successful in redistributing the water during monsoons, and has helped to alleviate flooding in the Mekong Delta and surrounding areas.
Vietnam has a nice mix of interesting markets and small shops, with handicrafts, art and clothing among the best picks.
It's a good idea to check with your local customs officials to ensure that you are able to bring certain items back into your home country. Australia and New Zealand generally have strict quarantine laws.
Things to buy in Vietnam
1. Tailored clothing
Hoi An is one of the best places in the world to get tailor-made clothing at a great price. Find a tailor, choose your fabric, get measured and return later to collect your custom-made fashion.
2. Hilltribe handicrafts
Some of Vietnam's hilltribe people make excellent woven bags, clothing and jewelry which make meaningful souvenirs for friends back home.
As one of the world's largest coffee exporters, Vietnamese coffee is among the world's best. If you’re a coffee fan, why not take a little taste of Vietnam home with you.
4. Lacquerware
The time-consuming, intensive process of creating Vietnamese lacquer art results in a beautiful, smooth and polished finish that adorns everything from bowls to paintings and jewelry boxes. While not the cheapest of souvenirs, authentic lacquer art is worth spending a bit more on.
Culture and customs
Vietnam's ancient culture can be traced back centuries and over the years has been influenced in different ways by the Chinese, Khmer, French and American cultures. For most Vietnamese people, connection to family and community is paramount - whether they are from rural villages or living in fast-paced cities.
Most festivals and holidays are spent with the extended family - participating in rituals, feasting on special foods, giving symbolic gifts and paying respects to ancestors. Most Vietnamese people practice a form of religion that is an interesting mix of Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism, although there are also a large number of practising Catholics living in Vietnam.
Having endured the hardship that the Vietnam War brought in the 1960s and 1970s, most Vietnamese people are keen to get on with life, living with a sense of optimism and humility.

The LGBQTIA+ community is gradually gaining recognition in Vietnam, with gay pride parades becoming a regular occurrence and a lift on same-sex marriage bans in 2015. It's generally recommended that both gay and straight couples resist showing public displays of affection.

Does my trip to Vietnam support The Intrepid Foundation?
Yes, all Intrepid trips support the Intrepid Foundation. In fact, we make a donation on behalf of every traveler. Trips to Vietnam directly support our foundation partners, Blue Dragon Children's Foundation, Vun Art and WildAct.
Intrepid will double the impact by dollar-matching all post-trip donations made to The Intrepid Foundation.
Blue Dragon Children's Foundation Blue Dragon Children's Foundation is helping disadvantaged youth in Vietnam, fighting the causes of human trafficking and (where possible) reuniting homeless or trafficked children with their families. Donations from our trips help their team of social workers, psychologists, teachers, and lawyers to offer individualized support to every child rescued.
Find out more or make a donation
Vun Art Vun Art empowers people with disabilities in Vietnam through vocational training and employment opportunities. They teach traditional folk painting using recycled materials which provides job opportunities, helps to preserve the ancient artform and cares for the local environment all at once. Donations from our trips support Vun Art's capacity-building programs for people with disabilities, including trainees' allowance, transportation, and equipment.
WildAct protects migratory birds of Vietnam and reduces illegal hunting by educating local communities about the importance of conservation. Donations from our trips help WildAct run educational programs to stop the illegal hunting of threatened migratory birds through knowledge-sharing in local communities.
Is Vietnam accessible for travellers with disabilities?
Intrepid is committed to making travel widely accessible , regardless of ability or disability. That’s why we do our best to help as many people see the world as possible, regardless of any physical or mental limitations they might have. We’re always happy to talk to travelers with disabilities and see if we can help guide them towards the most suitable itinerary for their needs and where possible, make reasonable adjustments to our itineraries.
Despite having a high population of people with disabilities, accessible infrastructure and facilities are still limited in Vietnam. Chaotic traffic and pavements blocked by parked motorbikes and street stalls, uneven footpaths and high curbs add to the challenges of getting around for travelers with mobility or vision disabilities. Most entrances to hotels, shops, restaurants and tourist sites will have steps and many doorways will not be able to accommodate wheelchairs wider than 60cm. Some sights and destinations will not be fully accessible (ie. Ha Long Bay boats, Cu Chi Tunnels) but other places such as Hoi An are flat and much more wheelchair-friendly. There are likely to be situations where travelers with disabilities may need to rely on local people to help. Taxis are readily available and an affordable way to get around for travelers who are not confident in exploring independently on foot.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best time of year to visit vietnam.
The best time to visit Vietnam depends on your preferences and the regions you plan to visit, as the weather can vary quite a bit across this long country. Here are some insights on the most recommended times for different areas:
- Northern Vietnam (Hanoi, Halong Bay, Sapa): The dry and cooler months of November to April are generally considered the best, when skies are clear and temperatures are comfortable (60s-70s°F). Summer months can be extremely hot and humid.
- Central Vietnam (Hue, Danang, Hoi An): The drier months between February and July offer the most ideal beach weather along the central coast. Temperatures are warm but not oppressively hot.
- Southern Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, Mekong Delta): The drier season runs from November to April/May, avoiding the heavy rains of the summer monsoon season. Temperatures are hot year-round but more manageable in the "winter" months.
In general, the spring (February to April) is one of the best times to visit much of Vietnam, when days are sunny, dry and warm across most regions. The fall (September to November) can also be an excellent shoulder season.
Keep in mind Vietnam's diverse topography means mountain areas like Sapa will be quite cool in winter, while coastal areas have a more tropical climate year-round. Planning around festivals like Tet can also impact timing.

FAQ about our Vietnam tours
Because Vietnam is a long expanse of country, the best time to travel depends very much on the region. North Vietnam has the driest periods from December to April, but it can also be quite cold during the winter months. In South Vietnam it is hot all year round, only it has a similar period without rain as the north. In central Vietnam, the dry season does not start until around the end of March and April and continues until about June.
Yes, regardless of which country you come from, you need a visa in Vietnam to enter. Fortunately for most nationalities can arrange this online.
To be sure of availability, we recommend booking a few days in advance for day tours. For complete Vietnam round tours it is useful to book at least 2 to 3 months in advance. When you travel during the absolute high season, it is even good to book further in advance.
Local Vietnam has two options; by credit card and by bank transfer.

We work with various organizations and local guides. This depends on what the possibilities are for each tour and how far you indicate it in advance. It is best to contact us directly about the possibilities.

Vietnam Tours and Trips 2024/2025
Vietnam has a complex history that shapes much of its modern life. We recommend visiting the cultural religious and historic sites of Ho Chi Minh City , including a tour of the Củ Chi tunnels leftover from the Vietnam War. Head North for a boat cruise on Ha Long Bay , or visit the capital city of Hanoi to discover its temples, museums and delicious street food.

Vietnam - Tour Highlights and Travel Tips
Beautiful, serene, and enchanting is how every trip to Vietnam feels. Fly into Hanoi to start your Vietnam explorations in the north and adjust yourself to the local culture. For something entirely unique, hire an open-sided river boat and drift along the Mekong River to enjoy some of the most spectacular views of the country that you’ll ever see. Holidaying in Vietnam is a constant bombardment on your senses. There are times when it feels downright ridiculous, but there are also times when it leaves you mesmerized.
Tour Highlights
- Explore the Temple of Literature in Hanoi
- Cruise down the Mekong Delta
- Climb the Marble Mountains
- Witness the art and architecture of Khai Dinh Tomb
- Take a boat tour along the Ngo Dong River to Tam Coc
- Visit the Thien Mu Pagoda
- Visit the amazing rice terraces in Sapa
Travel Tips
- Vietnam is a very safe country, but be wary of petty crime. Passerbys on motorbikes may try to steal your bags, and theft on sleeper buses is common. Do not carry valuable items and keep a secure hold of your cameras and cellphones.
- Be sure to haggle whenever visiting markets or buying from street vendors. Try to figure out what the going rate really is, as vendors will always inflate their prices if they think they can get away with it. Pro tip: you’ll always get your lowest price as you walk away.
- The Vietnamese consider public displays of anger to be very embarrassing. Try not to raise your voice, cross your arms, or lose your temper.
- Wi-Fi is very common in Vietnam, and is often free in hotels, hostels, cafes and restaurants.
- The food you will eat in Vietnam will depend heavily on what area of the country you visit. Central Vietnam is full of spicy foods, while they love sugar in the South. Food in the North tends to be seasonal. Be sure to try Bún Chả and Pho (pronounced Fuh).
Vietnam has seasonal weather so please do check up on best time to visit Vietnam before planning your tour.
Tours in Vietnam - Questions and Answers
The best time to visit Vietnam is from December through March, since temperatures are not overbearing during this time of year, hovering between 20°C to 26°C, and the rainfall light. Vietnam’s weather during March and even early April allows for tours right across the country, although it can be a little colder in the north. Mid-April through June and September to November are considered low seasons because they see two periods of monsoon rain. Temperatures rise alongside humidity during these months, and you will need to be prepared for downpours, which can flood roads and cut off access to destinations. July and August are very hot, with nighttime temperatures hovering at around 26°C. You can find more information here .
Most travelers will find Vietnam an inexpensive country to visit. As our ultimate travel guide for Vietnam explains, both budget and luxury travelers are well catered for without having to break the bank. Good backpacker hostels will only set you back by around USD 10 per night. However, most consider staying in hotels during a Vietnam tour, since rooms in decent hotels even in big cities can cost as little as USD 40 per person, per night. Transportation is also a great value for money, and food is relatively cheap for the quality and quantity you will receive. Museum entry is usually around USD 2 per ticket.
Most nationals who wish to travel to the country require a visa, obtainable from your nearest Vietnamese embassy for USD 60 to USD 100 per person.
Knowing how long to spend in Vietnam is one of the tricks to having a great vacation. It is possible to cover the highlights of the country during a seven-day tour . However, for greater insight into its history and people along with a feel for what makes Vietnam so special, we advise opting for a ten-day trip instead. With this duration, you can experience everything from the floating markets of the Mekong Delta to the rush-hour traffic of Ho Chi Minh City! Spend two weeks in Vietnam and you can travel from the north of the country to its south (or vice versa) without constantly checking your watch. For more insights on your travel duration, read through our travel article here .
In Vietnam’s major tourist hubs, including the Ha Long Bay and Sa Pa, you will find plenty of people who speak English. Those working and operating hotels and tours will have decent English-language skills. English is primarily spoken by younger generations, with grandparents tending to speak French because of France’s colonial history in the country. In more far-flung destinations, such as the hill villages of the north, you may find locals speak nothing but Vietnamese, which is where a guide really comes in handy!
Visitors to Vietnam need to be careful with gestures and physical contact. For instance, Vietnamese women do not usually shake hands. Hugging should also be avoided, along with patting people on the back – a sign of disrespect in the country. Also avoid the temptation to ruffle the hair of kids, since the head is sacred to the Vietnamese. When it comes to gesturing, pointing at objects or people should not be done with the index finger – use your thumb or pinky instead. Have your palm facing down when you are calling someone since an open, upward-facing palm is meant for dogs only.
Generally speaking, Vietnam is a very safe destination for visitors. Muggings and street robberies are rare, but you should still use common sense and hide valuable items and large amounts of money. As you might expect, most taxi touts and fake tour guides hang around the big hotels in cities like Hanoi. Just ignore them. Road traffic accidents are probably one of the biggest risks you will face, so stay away from the temptation of riding on a motorbike. In less-visited areas, there is also the risk of unexploded ordinance from the Vietnam War. Only walk where you know it is safe to do so. Find more information here .
Most tours to Vietnam will start either from a tour of Hanoi in the north or a visit to Ho Chi Minh City in the south. Not only are they the locations of major international airports, but they also have a long list of attractions, from museums to Ho Chi Minh City’s war-era Chu Chi tunnels. Few visitors regret deciding to spend a couple of days drifting around the Ha Long Bay, while trekking expeditions in Sa Pa are gaining popularity with each passing day. You also will not want to miss spending a little time on the pristine beaches of Vietnam’s south, or touring the markets in the country – floating and otherwise. Read our article on the best places to visit in Vietnam .
Pho (noodle soup) is perhaps the meal that immediately comes to mind when thinking about Vietnamese food. The country’s cuisine is typified by fresh crunchy vegetables alongside seafood on the coast and chicken or pork away from it. Spring rolls are a common snack and are enjoyed best straight from the frier. Adopting the elements of French culture, baguettes stuffed with cooked meat, pâtés and vegetables are common lunch items in cities. A variety of prawn, pork, and beef dishes served with noodles or rice can be found throughout the day too.
Given the congestion in big cities, it is often easier to walk short distances. For longer journeys, take a taxi. The most efficient way of getting between destinations is by organizing private transport, followed by making use of the country’s expansive coach network. A trip by train is a must during your time in Vietnam but be warned that speed should not be the primary concern while traveling aboard these aging engines. Domestic flights between north and south are increasingly common despite growing concerns about the climate emergency.
To see all that Vietnam has to offer, a cross-country itinerary is definitely the way to go. Although there are plenty of things to do in Ho Chi Minh City , it would be a real shame to limit your scope to just this metropolitan area. That is unless you have a limited time. If you are using Vietnam as a stop-over destination and have just two to three days, staying in the capital or a city close to international airports is the right thing to do.

Complex and Compelling
Vietnam, a nation with a long history, boasts a wealth of natural and cultural treasures. Vietnamese Buddhism has given rise to unbelievable religious structures. Rivers such as the Mekong run throughout the country, adorned with picturesque islands. Welcoming villages rest along their shores. Its street food has become a must for international foodies. Cities such as Hanoi bustle with energy and ancient places such as Hoi An welcome travelers. All told, Vietnam is simply a feast for the senses.
Destination Must-See's
Halong Bay:
According to legend, Halong Bay—or “descending dragon bay”—was formed when a god sent down a dragon that was the source of the 1,600 limestone pillars that populate the bay. Now you can wind your way through this karst landscape by boat and view these impressive outcroppings, some of which rise up more than 300 feet. Most are uninhabited, but those that are provide a prime habitat for fishermen. Halong Bay was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1994.
Hoi An Ancient Town:
Located at the mouth of the Thu Bon River, Hoi An’s ancient town is an example of a well-preserved South-East Asian trading port. Most active from the 15th to the 19th centuries, the influence of Chinese and European travelers combined with that of the local inhabitants to make Hoi An exceptional. Its structures are mostly made of wood, and include more than a thousand timber-frame buildings. While its economic contributions today are primarily from fishing, the trading port’s decline in the late 19th century helped it retain its traditional urban atmosphere. Hoi An Ancient Town was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1999.
Hue Complex of Monuments — Hue City:
Hue was established as the capital of unified Vietnam in 1802, and until 1945 it was a key political, cultural and religious center. Today it is a fine example of a unique feudal capital. The Nguyen Dynasty, Vietnam’s last royal dynasty, left its indelible mark here. Hoang Thanh (Imperial City), Tu Cam Thanh (Forbidden Purple City), the Imperial Residence, and other royal palaces comprise the Hue Complex. Wars and natural disasters took their toll; in response the area was designated a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1993. This has led to the restoration of 132 monuments so far.
My Son Sanctuary—Hoi An:
My Son means “Kingdom of Cham.” This cluster of partially ruined temples and tombs sprang from the ancient Champa Kingdom of southern Vietnam. The religious buildings, made of red bricks and sandstone, were constructed from the 4th to 13th centuries—spanning 10 centuries of continuous development. The sacred Thu Bon River flows past the monuments, which have Hindu rather than Buddhist origins and were devoted to Hindu divinities such as Shiva. Partially destroyed by the U.S. during the Vietnam War, 70 structures remain and have been safeguarded by UNESCO since 1999.
Destination Must-Do's
Travel by boat:
One of the longest rivers in the world, the 2,500-mile-long Mekong River runs through Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand in addition to Vietnam in its “lower course.” Partake of a cruise on this bustling river and experience the Mekong Delta like a native. Don’t let the name fool you: a “junk boat” is an ancient Chinese sailing vessel with striking rectangular sails, and is the perfect way to cruise the emerald waters of Halong Bay. View rice paddy fields and the 1,000+ limestone “islands.” A cruise along the Perfume River reveals Hue’s Imperial past. Wind your way through the Capital City, the Imperial City, the Forbidden Purple City, and the Inner City. Traveling by boat is truly an ideal way to get to know Vietnam.
The Vietnam War:
Or, as the Vietnamese call it, the American War. One cannot escape the vestiges of the war when in Vietnam. In response, the Vietnamese government has developed a nationwide network of war memorial theme parks. The Vietnam War memorial park in Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) is host to the Cu Chi Tunnels. During the war, the Viet Cong dug tens of thousands of miles of tunnels that run underneath the Cu Chi district. The term “tunnel rats” was born here. They are now a popular tourist destination.
A pagoda is a tiered tower with multiple eaves that is associated with the Buddhist temple complex. Vietnam has many pagodas worth a visit. The Thien Mu Pagoda, or the Heavenly Lady Pagoda, is located in Hue, on the north bank of the Perfume River. One of Vietnam’s oldest and most remarkable religious buildings, construction on the seven-tiered Thien Mu Pagoda began in 1601. The Mia Pagoda, located near Hanoi, is known for its statues. It has 287 Buddha statues, each with its own expression, design and color. Hanoi’s One Pillar Pagoda is located in a lotus pond. It is said to represent a lotus flower, the Buddhist symbol of purity. Built of wood on a single stone pillar, the One Pillar Pagoda is one of Vietnam’s most iconic Buddhist temples.
Get a taste of Vietnam:
What better way to experience Vietnam than through its food? When in Hoi An, you can visit a market, interact with vendors, and learn about traditional ingredients. Afterward, enjoy a lunch made with these ingredients. In the rural Ky Son Village, a local chef demonstrates local culinary traditions before a lunch highlighting regional cuisine. Visit the Tra Que Herb Village, a small farming community. Observe the farmers tending their crops and sample some local delicacies. Savor the experience!

These 3 wheeled vehicles are an unusual but great experience to zip around the sights on vacation to Vietnam.

On a delightful homestay, get to know the Vietnamese way of life. Make friends with your hosts and neighbors while learning about new cuisines, languages, Vietnam guided tours and traditions.
If you're looking for a fantastic vacation destination in Southeast Asia, Vietnam should be at the top of your list. With its stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage, Vietnam tour packages have something to offer every traveler. Vietnam, which occupies a long and narrow section of the Indochina peninsula, borders China, Laos, and Cambodia. Mountains can be found throughout most of Vietnam, particularly in the North and Central Highlands. The majority of the people in Vietnam live in low-lying areas with easy infrastructure and public and fertile agricultural land. Vietnam frequently experiences flooding because of the Mekong, one of the world's 12 major rivers. The Mekong Delta and nearby areas have experienced less flooding thanks to the canal and dike system's ability to distribute floodwater.
Early History
The area that is now Vietnam has been inhabited since the beginning of time. According to archaeological discoveries, organized communities started to emerge as early as the first millennium BC. Up until the Chinese invasion in 111 BC, which caused the societies of Vietnam and China to converge, early society was mostly focused on agriculture and feudalism, with numerous dynasties ruling over different regions of Vietnam. For hundreds of years, the region was ruled by various Chinese dynasties, but in 905, the Vietnamese gained independence as a result of uprisings. Vietnam entered an era of independence in 938, marking the end of this period of Chinese imperial rule.
Recent History
French colonialists who took over Vietnam following the Sino-French War of 1884 and 1885 had an influence on it during the 19th century. Parts of Vietnam were included in French Indochina and Cambodia, and Laos which was created in 1887. First, after Vietnamese troops beat French forces in the Indochina War in 1954, the French were finally forced to give up control of the internal independence movements they had long sought to stifle. Vietnam was split up after this conflict, with separate governments in the north (headed by Ho Chi Minh) and the south (led by Ngo Dinh Diem, with American support).
The second Indochina War caused widespread destruction and upheaval for the Vietnamese people, and as a result, a large number of individuals left Vietnam in search of sanctuary in other parts of the world. Vietnam's economy had almost completely collapsed by the 1980s, which prompted additional waves of emigration from Vietnam. Vietnam has lately profited from the free economy that was established in 1986. Vietnam's economy is still growing, with agricultural and manufacturing serving as the foundation and the tour operators also making a contribution. Despite the fact that many Vietnamese people are living in poverty, literacy rates have increased significantly.
While Vietnam's history has been marked by conflict and hardship, the country has made significant strides in recent years towards economic growth and development. With a booming tourism industry and a wide range of Vietnam tour packages to choose from, travelers from all over the world are discovering the beauty and charm of this Indochina gem.
Vietnamese markets and small businesses are a good mix of the intriguing; the finest choices include handicrafts, art, and and clothing, which can be explored through Vietnam tour packages.
To be sure that you can carry particular things back into your place of origin, it is a good idea to verify with your local customs officers. In general, quarantine regulations in Australia and New Zealand are strict.
1. Tailored Clothing
One of the best places on the planet to find high-quality custom apparel is Hoi An. Locate a tailor, select your fabrics, get fitted, then come back later to pick up your bespoke clothing.
2. Hilltribe Handicrafts
Some of the hill tribes during the Vietnam tour produce great woven jewelry, apparel, and bags that make thoughtful gifts for family and friends back home.
Vietnamese coffee is among the greatest in the world, and it comes from one of the biggest exporters in the world. Why not bring a little bit of Vietnam's tour home with you if you are a coffee habitué?
4. Lacquerware
Vietnamese lacquer art is created through a labor-intensive, lengthy process that yields a stunning, smooth, and polished finish that covers everything from bowls to jewelry boxes and paintings. Although those are not the low-priced keepsakes, genuine lacquer work is pricey but worth while during Vietnam tour packages.
Halong Bay in the early morning is unlike anything else. Hundreds of enormous karst structures may be seen rising above the boat as the mists dissipate. It feels like you are waking up in a watercolor painting of a mystical place in the beautiful morning light. One of the best ways to experience the beauty of Halong Bay in Vietnam is through well-designed Vietnam vacation packages that cater to your interests and preferences.
When visiting the capital of Vietnam through Vietnam tour packages, Hanoi, the phrase "motorcycle" comes up frequently. It's insane and chaotic, but it manages to work. It is preferable to take in this exotic vista from a rooftop cafe. Watch the uproar below as you place another coffee order.
The Mekong Delta is a must see attraction in Vietnam tour packages. Some of the friendliest people on earth reside in this wide region of floating marketplaces, emerald rice paddies, and verdant islands. For a first-hand view of life in the Delta and to get to know your neighbors, set sail for one of the sleeping islands.
Vietnam vacation packages offer an excellent opportunity to explore the vibrant villages of Vietnam's minority groups such as the Zay and the Blue and Black H'mong, amid the highlands. Due to the area's isolation, an overnight hike where you stay with a local family is a great way to explore it.
Quy Nhon is a charming seaside off the major tourist route. Even a driving trip here is worthwhile. Islands, lagoons, and dunes gradually give way to paddy fields and large plantations as the route follows rocky slopes plunging into the South China Sea. A place worth going when thinking about a Vietnam tour package.
Hue is a city for heritage aficionados since it is crammed with imperial monuments. Prior to channeling your internal emperor and having a dragonboat journey down the Perfume River, discover the Citadel and its abandoned Forbidden Purple City.
Boot manufacturers, tailors, and artisans call this shopping heaven home more than you could possibly visit in a lifetime. Hire a bicycle and tour the Old Town while you wait for your suit to be constructed; the streets are gloriously car-free.
Most people still refer to HCMC as Saigon, and it is a busy metropolis. It moves quickly, is thrilling, and has wonderful sights. Skyscrapers, cathedrals, and markets all coexist in a heady mingling of traditional, colonial, and modern architecture.
The hustle and bustle of Hanoi seems a million miles away in Mai Chau. The tranquil atmosphere is aided by misty mountains and verdant rice fields. Be sure to keep an eye out for the traditional textiles produced by the local White Thai population during Vietnam tour packages.
Known as the "honeymoon capital" of Vietnam, is perpetually the must-going place in the spring. Discover the bizarre local artists, take in the French-inspired ambiance, and explore the nearby lakes, waterfalls, and forests. Fantastic!
The Chinese, Khmer, French, and American civilizations have all had a different impact on Vietnam's ancient culture over hundreds of years, which may be centuries old. Whether they hail from remote villages or live in bustling metropolises, family and community connections are important to the majority of Vietnamese people. The majority of festivals and holidays are spent with the extended family, where rituals are performed, special foods are enjoyed, symbolic presents are exchanged, and ancestors are honored. Although there are certainly a lot of Catholics in Vietnam, the majority of Vietnamese practice a fascinating blend of Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism. When the Vietnam War brought hardships in the 1960s and 1970s, the majority of Vietnamese people desired to integrate into society, live optimistically and modestly. Let's experience the rich cultural heritage of Vietnam through its festivals, rituals, and special foods with the help of Vietnam tour packages.
Go Vietnam Tours takes every precaution to make sure that tours are secure, enjoyable, and pleasant for everyone. We take the health and safety of our travelers during Vietnam tour packages seriously. We advise all customers to get the most recent information prior to departure from their local government or national travel advisory agency.

Temple of Literature
One of Hanoi’s most beautiful sites, the Temple of Literature is an ancient complex built in 1070 and dedicated to Confucius and scholars. It’s also home to the Imperial Academy, Vietnam’s first university and you can see the historic pavilions, turtle steles, courtyards, a lake of literature and the Well of Heavenly Clarity.
My Son Temples

How to identify an honest travel agency
Currently, there exist hundreds of agencies offering spectacular trips at very good prices, but many of them are not entirely trustworthy. Below are some recommendations to keep in mind when choosing a tour operator:
Is their payment method secure?
One of the aspects that can give a clear idea of the reliability of an agency are the payment options they offer. If their only payment methods are Western Union or a transfer to a bank account in a tax haven, you should be really careful, as this transfer will be traceable and therefore it’s very likely that the agency is a scam artist. So, ask your agency if you can pay via bank transfer or via PayPal .
What does the agency’s website look like?
Websites are a good reflection of the quality of an agency. A functional website with good information takes a lot of time and money. If the agency has a good website, it’s an indication that they take care to offer a quality product to their customers. Scam artists don’t tend to invest time in creating a good webpage, because it’s likely that they’ll have to close it shortly afterward.
What is the travel agent like?
Aggressive travel agents are usually an indication that the agency doesn’t have enough customers. A good agency doesn’t have trouble finding customers, making it so that they don’t need to be very insistent; rather, all they have to do is offer good service without pressure.
What are the guides like?
Travel agencies offering very low prices need to complement their earnings by other indirect methods. It’s common for guides to take travelers to stores or businesses with inflated prices that will later pass on a commission to the guide and/or the agency if one of the travelers buys a product.
If you don’t want to spend your trip running from store to store, be careful who you book your tour with.
What do previous customers say?
In the end, the only way of knowing if the travel agency is trustworthy or not is to get the opinion of other customers. Take some time to read the opinions of previous customers. Normally they can be found directly on the website of the agency. A good agency will be interested in showing positive reviews from previous customers.
In addition, you can look at the agency’s accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Trip Advisor, etc. Do they have followers? Do they interact with them? What are people saying? What are the comments of previous customers on social media?
Last of all, you should keep in mind that even the best agency in the world isn’t able to satisfy all of their customers. The presence of one negative or not very good review is a sign that the rest of the opinions are real. If an agency only has a few reviews and all of them are very positive, it’s highly likely that they are “false” reviews.
In addition to the honesty of an agency, there are other aspects that can let you know about the quality of the agency:
Is there flexibility in my itinerary?
If the agency has experience in Vietnam, it will grant a certain degree of flexibility in its itineraries or will offer a large selection of itineraries. If the agency only offers you two or three tours to choose from, it’s likely that it has little experience in the country or few resources.
Does the agency take care of my internal trips?
Tourist destinations in Vietnam are located somewhat far away, making it necessary to move around by train or plane. A good agency will take care of booking plane or train tickets for you.
Does the agency pick you up at the airport?
One of the main reasons for booking a tour is to minimize the inconveniences of traveling in a country that you don’t know. During the first hours after arriving in a new country, it’s common to feel a little lost. Asian airports tend to be filled with people that will try to take advantage of your initial disorientation to rip you off. Good agencies will offer to pick you up at the airport to make your first contact with the country easier.
Can the agency help you with your visa?
Getting a tourist visa for Vietnam is relatively easy, and for time periods of less than 15 days, on many occasions, they can be obtained directly at the airport. Even so, a good agency will make the effort to provide updated information on visas, and will therefore be capable of providing all the information necessary. Note that, in some cases, you can even get a visa exemption .
What does the price of the tour include?
When you evaluate a tour, it’s really important that you make sure what it includes. It’s normal for a tour to include transportation as well as train and plane tickets, lodging, agency fees, entry fees for places of interest, and some meals. International plane tickets and visa costs are usually not included in the price.
What is the quality of hotels?
The quality of hotels is something that can cause the price of the tour to vary significantly. Despite this, if you choose to stay at two- or three-star budget hotels, the quality of the hotels can vary significantly . Just take a look at the reviews of the hotels that the agency is offering to get an idea of what to expect.
Once again… What do previous customers say?
Below you will find the situations in which in our opinion it’s better to book a tour:
You don’t have a lot of time
Organizing a trip to Vietnam takes time. You’ll have to look up information on the visa, choose an itinerary, book hotels, and book internal transportation, among many other things.
In addition, if you only have 7-15 days to spend in Vietnam and you want to visit the main tourist attractions, a tour or an organized trip will let you make much better use of your time and will allow you to visit more places. With a tour, you’re not going to waste time looking for tourist attractions, finding out how to get to the train station or the hotel, etc.
Obviously, if you have time and a tight budget, a tour might not be the best option for you.
You’ve never traveled outside of your country
Asia is a continent that can overwhelm you the first time, especially if you don’t have a lot of experience traveling in culturally different countries. Traveling in Vietnam is safe, and in the main cities or tourist destinations, it’s not hard to find people who can speak English (or even French). Even so, little scams and cultural differences are commonplace.
There’s a lot of information on the Internet ( you can start by reading our guide to the country ), so if you’re open to the unknown and you have patience, you don’t need to book tour.
However, if you don’t have traveling experience or you don’t think you’re capable of adapting to a different lifestyle, booking an organized tour is your best bet.
I want to do “special” activities
Do you want to go kayaking in Halong Bay? Do you want to hike across rural areas? Would you like to travel across the country on a bicycle? In this case, it would be best for you to look for a specialized agency to help you organize these activities.
Although it’s possible to organize them yourself, in my opinion, it’s not a very good idea, as you can get lost, hurt yourself, or even worse. An accident under these circumstances can be very costly, even if you have a good travel insurance policy . No insurance will cover your medical expenses or repatriation if you decide to participate in potentially dangerous activities with no type of supervision.
If you’re planning to stay for less than 15 days and you have a passport from one of the countries on this list , then you don’t need a visa. All you need is a passport with at least 6 months of validity.
On the other hand, if you’re planning to stay in Vietnam for more than 15 days or your country isn’t on the list that I linked to above, you need to apply for a visa.
In any event, ask your agency whether you need a visa or not.
Note that visa exemption rules may change, thus always make sure to confirm it with the Vietnamese Consular Office in your country, before booking your trip.
Travel insurance and vaccines
It’s important to ask the agency to find out if it provides travel insurance and what type. If you want more information on the subject, we have published a complete article on the topic. Here you will find all of the information you need on travel insurance and why you need it .
The only vaccine necessary for entering Vietnam is yellow fever (only for travelers from countries where there is a risk of contracting the disease). Even so, I recommend that you see your doctor and check if you’re up to date on vaccines for tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis (Tdap), polio, typhoid fever, hepatitis A and hepatitis B. If you’re not up to date, I suggest you update your vaccines.
In some areas of the country, especially during the rainy season, you run the risk of getting malaria or dengue. Considering that there are no effective vaccines for these diseases, the best strategy is prevention.
In Vietnam, there are restrictions on Internet use. Some social networks, such as Twitter, are blocked and therefore inaccessible in the country. If you need to stay connected to the world, I recommend that you take a look at this article .
International flights
For the moment, we are recommending Expedia to book international flights, because in our experience, it is generally where we get the best prices.
What to take to Vietnam
You don’t need anything special other than a few basic medications (aspirin, antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and antidiarrheal medications), waterproof clothing if you’re traveling during the rainy season, and a few books if you like to read.
If you have already decided that you want to book a trip to Vietnam but you’re not very sure which agency to choose, I recommend that you click here and take a look at our suggestions .
