Gulp Coast brewery tour: St. Pete, Florida

Updated: Mar 6

Flight of beers from St. Pete Brewing Company

In addition to sunshine, sand, and sea views, a vacation to St. Pete, Florida also offers an absolute wealth of craft beer to sample. In fact, the St. Pete-Clearwater area has even earned itself the nickname “The Gulp Coast” with more than 35 microbreweries dotting the region. With that many options, deciding where to start can be a bit of a challenge, so I compiled my sampler list from a recent trip to help get you started.

Green Bench Brewing Co.

Sign on a wall on the patio at Green Bench Brewing in St. Pete, Florida

Green Bench Brewing Co. is another one of St. Pete’s O.G.s and stakes the claim as the first microbrewery in the city. Known for a vast selection of hop-forward IPAs and sours, the menu is full of juicy, highly drinkable options. The inside of the taproom is small and cozy, and the outdoor space is perfect for spreading out and lounging.

3 Daughters Brewing

Bartender pouring tap beer at 3 Daughters Brewing in St. Pete, Florida

A classic and a staple, 3 Daughters is one of the largest breweries in the area. It’s size often means there’s something for everyone with an expansive menu including more than 40 rotating taps of beer, cider, hard seltzer, sangria, and NA options. It’s more warehouse than taproom, but that means there’s plenty of room to spread out and the brewery often has events like live music, trivia, or bingo.

St. Pete Brewing Co.

Colorful exterior of St. Pete Brewing in Florida

This hometown namesake is best known for its goal of providing beer choices that “exemplify the essence of St. Petersburg.” The flavor profiles at St. Pete Brewing Co. focus more on traditional options like ales, wheats, and other European styles, and its signature brews include the Orange Wheat or Banyan Blonde. The taproom has limited outdoor seating but can be a welcome reprieve from the Florida sun, or a cozy escape from an unavoidable rainy day.

Oak & Stone

Wall of beer taps at Oak & Stone in St. Pete, Florida

If you can’t get to all the breweries, Oak & Stone is your one-stop-sample-shop in downtown St. Pete. Known for artisanal pizzas and a self-serve craft beer wall with more than 60 rotating taps, you’ve got options. The tap wall is well-curated with a strong emphasis on St. Pete breweries and other regional favorites, so if you’re crunched for time and can’t get to every brewery on your list, this is a great alternative.

While admittedly that only scratches the surface of brewery options in and around St. Pete, it’s hopefully enough to get you started. If you’re in search of the full list of options, our friends at Visit St. Pete/Clearwater keep an up-to-date list on their website .

The Gulp Coast: A Craft Beer Guide to the Best Breweries in St. Pete

  • Last Updated March 17, 2024
  • USA , North America

As someone that often organises my travel plans around beer and breweries, I had somehow overlooked doing any beer-related research before heading to Clearwater and St. Pete. On my last trip to the region, albeit almost 20 years ago, the best tipple you could find was a bland, mass-produced lager like Budweiser or, at a push, an icy cold bottle of PBR. With that in mind, I thought that my drinking plans would be were relegated to margaritas on the St. Pete’s pristine white beaches or a mojito by the hotel pool, although that does sound pretty good.

Imagine my surprise when I was greeted in my hotel room by a glistening leaflet with the enticing title ‘ The Gulp Coast: St. Pete/Clearwater Craft Beer Trail ’. Listed inside were 41 breweries stretching on a path from Tarpon Springs in the north, all the way down to St. Pete in the south.

Green Bench Brewery in St Pete, Florida

Over the past decade, St. Pete has fast become Florida’s premier destination for craft breweries – the Sunshine State’s answer to California’s wine country according to the local tourism board – with the city hosting no fewer than 17 brewers, ranging from the small-scale, homegrown outfits like  If I Brewed the World  and  Dissent , local pioneers like  Greenbench  and  3 Daughters , to larger-scale, national brewers like  Sea Dog Brew Co.

With many of St. Pete’s craft breweries located within walking distance of the waterfront, with only a few that are within a short taxi ride, it’s easy enough to sample the unique vibe and drinks on offer at each of them. Whatever your tastes, St. Pete has something to offer: hop-forward IPAs or fruity sours and everything in between. The Bay Area even has its own style that is very much unique to the region: Florida Weisse. Inspired by the Berliner Weisse, local brewers make this a tart, cloudy sour using local fruits to give it a hint of Florida sun. Think passionfruit, key lime and, of course, oranges.

The Best Breweries in St. Pete

With just 3 days in Clearwater and St. Pete, completing the entire trail would have been impossible, but I did have ample opportunity to explore the breweries that the city of St. Pete has to offer. Here are my favourites.

Green Bench Brewing Co.

In the 1900s, St. Petersburg was known as “The City of Green Benches,” when nearly 2,500 benches lined the city’s downtown streets, encouraging residents to sit, chat and socialise. It is this rich history that inspired  Green Bench Brewing Co. ’s name but the reference is also an indication of Green Bench owners Steven Duffy, Nathan Stonecipher, and Khris Johnson’s love of St. Pete.

What started as a hobby for these 3 St. Pete natives turned into a business as they opened St. Petersburg’s first microbrewery. Being pioneers in the area didn’t come easily though, as they had to persuade local authorities to change laws to allow them to brew in the city centre, and persuade local drinkers that craft beer was worth their time. When they first opened, less than 2% of beer sold in Florida was craft, so they faced an uphill struggle.

Green Bench Brewery in St. Pete, Florida

Situated in a space that was originally built in the early 1900s as a Chrysler dealership’s body shop (the brewery has won an award from the St Pete Preservation Society for their renovation), Green Bench have a beautiful 1,500 square foot, 12 tap tasting room featuring a view into their brewhouse.

Although known mostly for their hop-forward IPAs, particularly their core Sunshine City IPA, a juicy and drinkable tropical IPA that is double dry-hopped with Citra, Mosaic and Azacca, the brewery also experiments with wood fermentation, yeasts, and bacterias.

Where : 1133 Baum Ave N When : Tues to Thurs 12pm – 10pm; Fri & Sat 12pm – 12am; Sun 12pm – 10pm

If I Brewed the World

If I Brewed the World  may be one of the newest breweries on this list, opening its doors in December 2018, but that in no means makes it less worthy. In fact, it may actually be my favourite brewery in St. Pete.

Owner Kevin Shaw has spent a lot of time brewing over the last 6 years with a homebrew kit and an urge to move on to something bigger. Over that time he created many weird and wonderful brews and collected over 30 awards in the process, eventually releasing his own beer-related coffee table book in order to help fund his dream of opening a brewery.

If I brewed the World Brewery tap list

While the taproom itself can’t compete with the slick designs of places like Greenbench and 3 Daughters, it has a friendly neighbourhood bar vibe, including an enthusiastic welcoming party in the form of Kevin’s dog, pepper.

Then there’s the actual beer: Kevin describes If I Brewed the World as the ‘mixtape of breweries’ due to his tendancy to brew anything and everything, including a lot of weird stuff like their popular Crunchberry Cereal (which tastes just like milk that has had Captain Crunch Berry soaked in it) but their Berry Manilow, Cash Rules Everything Around Me, and Espresso Yourself Stout are all worth a taste.

If I Brewed the World Brewery in St. Pete, Florida

Cycle Brewing

Although originally based out of the Mexican restaurant Peg’s Cantina in Gulfport,  Cycle  has become a staple of downtown St. Pete since moving to its current location ion Central Av In 2013. Doug Dozark’s brewery has come a long way from the days of utilizing the backyard of his mother’s restaurant for his brewing activities and gone on to gain global recognition. In fact, in 2017 RateBeer ranked Cycle as #5 on their list of top 10 brewers in the world.

Nestled between a coffee shop and salon on the city’s 500-block, Cycle has gained a cult following due to its proclivity for producing World-renowned for its barrel-aged stouts such as those aged in bourbon, cognac, tequila, whiskey or scotch barrels. Be warned though, they tend to sell-out of these special brews pretty quickly.

Where : 534 Central Ave When : Mon to Thurs 3pm – 12am; Fri & Sat 12pm – 1am; Sun 12pm – 10pm

St. Pete Brewing Co.

With a façade decorated with a hop-draped depiction of St. Pete’s famous banyan trees painted by local street art legend Derek Donnelly,  St. Pete Brewing Co  was born of a desire to provide beer enthusiasts a beer choice that exemplifies the essence of St. Petersburg.

Containing 12 taps, the cosy tasting room shares a space with the brewhouse allowing you to see the brewers in action while sampling the brewery’s signature brews such as their St. Pete Orange Wheat and Banyan Blonde.

Where : 544 1st Ave N When : Mon – Thurs 1pm – 11pm; Fri 12pm – 1pm; Sat 11am – 12am; Sun 12pm – 11pm

3 Daughters Brewing

The story behind 3 Daughters goes that when Mike Harting and head brewer Ty Weaver worked in a local restaurant in St Pete, they wanted to work on a recipe for craft beer-battered fish and decided to make it with their own hand-crafted brews. The beer that they produced was so good that one day, Mike and Ty decided to invest in a brewhouse to increase their brewing capacity for the restaurant.

Starting with a 30-barrel system, they decided to move into their own premises and the brewery was born. As the brewery was being built, Mike and Ty kept asking themselves “how many beers do we have to sell to put 3 Daughters through college?” With that, the brewery gained its name.

Nowadays, their taproom and 10,000 square foot production facility on Street South, St. Pete can produce up to 60,000 barrels per year. It’s a vast, family-friendly place containing games, live music performances and up to 60 beers on tap.

Where : 222 22nd St S When : Mon – Thurs 2pm – 10pm; Fri 2pm – 12pm; Sat 12pm – 12am; Sun 12pm – 8am.

3 daughters brewing in St. Pete, Florida

Mastry's Brewing Co.

Originally founded in 2014 as a brew-pub operating out of a family-owned restaurant,  Mastry’s  expanded and relocated in 2016, becoming the first craft brewery and tasting room on St. Pete Beach.

The Mastry’s Brewing Co. tasting room features 15 taps of rotating house brews, and guest beers. As their brews range from standards like west coast IPAs and lagers to more experimentally flavoured stouts and Florida weisses, there is something for everyone. The open-fronted taproom itself, walls adorned with photos and memorabilia of the Mastry family history, is in close quarters with the small brewing operation, allowing you to chat and interact with the brewers as they work away. I highly recommend their Black Sail tropical stout.

Where : 7701 Blind Pass Rd When : Mon 2pm – 9pm; Tues to Thurs 2pm – 10pm; Fri & Sat 12pm – 12am; Sun 12pm – 9pm

Dissent Craft Brewing Company

Possibly taking the title of St. Pete’s most off the beaten bath tap room, this nano brewery doesn’t look like much from the outside – a small unit in a Haines Road strip mall – and even inside, it can best be described as cosy and minimal. After all, owners Chris Price and Dale Miller are focussing primarily on building their brand for future distribution, rather than decking out their taproom and trying to make it a destination bar.

However,  Dissent  let their outspoken and unique beers, ranging from their Hazy Mangover, an IPA brewed with mango and habanero peppers, and their blueberry marshmallow Berliner weisse, to a tasty Mexican cheesecake stout, do the talking.

Where : 5518 Haines Rd N When : Tues to Thurs 3pm – 9pm; Fri & Sat 12pm – 10pm; Sun 12pm – 6pm

Sea Dog Brewery St. Pete

Sea Dog Brewing Co.

Although originating in Bangor, Maine,  Sea Dog’s  beachside brewpub on the Intracoastal between St. Pete Beach and Clearwater does brew on-site and contains a 20 barrel brewhouse. While the beers may not be as experimental or forward-facing as some of St. Pete’s smaller breweries, their beers are formulated and brewed using imported English two-row malted barley for ales and imported German hops for lagers, creating some fantastic, although more traditional, beers.

Where : 9610 Gulf Blvd, Treasure Island When : Mon to Thurs 11am – 11pm; Fri & Sat 11am – 12pm; Sun 11am – 12pm.

Where to Stay in St. Pete & Clearwater

Wyndham grand clearwater beach.

There are myriad luxurious hotels lining Clearwater beach, but the domineering dual glass towers of the Wyndham Grand stand out. Offering 343 guestrooms, many of which offer views out into the Gulf of Mexico, the Wyndham has spa and pool facilities and is just a few metres from the sparkling sands of America’s best beach. It is also home to a restaurant featured on this list: Ocean Hai. Serving Asian fusion cuisine and spectacular sushi, Ocean Hai is one of the best seafood restaurants in Clearwater.

The Don Cesar

Built in 1928 during the Gatsby era, people were drawn to St Petersburg as a city of leisure – pristine white beaches, palm trees, the cultured Mediterranean architecture – and the Don Cesar gained renown as the playground for America’s pampered rich. Its grand ballroom has even hosted extravagant parties by the likes of Scott F Fitzgerald and Al Capone. Sitting beside the pristine sands of St. Pete beach like a pink, art deco behemoth, the beautiful Don Cesar remains one of St. Pete’s most exclusive resorts.

I visited Florida as a guest of Visit St. Pete & Clearwater. However, all views are my own.

St. Pete Breweries

Cycle brewing.

534 Central Ave., St. Petersburg, FL 33701

It is fitting for this legendary spot to be first on your St. Pete brewery tour. The space itself is small and cozy, bedecked with works from local artists. A few sidewalk picnic tables along Central Avenue provide the perfect place to enjoy your beers outside if you choose. But the star here is the beer.

Sought after nationwide, especially for its selection of barrel-aged stouts, you cannot go wrong. The core beers like Crank IPA are amazing and always on tap, and there are often seasonal and specialty offerings which vary depending on when you go. Cycle is a great spot especially if you like dark, sweet beers.

Don’t forget to check out their selection of beers to go, many of which are limited-release.

St. Pete Breweries tour - Cycle Brewing

The new St. Pete brewery on our list is right across the street from Cycle Brewing.

St. Pete Brewing Company

544 1st Ave N, St. Petersburg, FL 33701

The beer menu at St. Pete Brewing Company is a mix of staples, specialty offerings, and guest taps. Plus there’s almost always something delicious in the slushie machine.

If you’re so inspired, plan your St. Pete breweries tour around one of the many special events St. Pete Brewing offers — live music, bingo, and open mic nights to name a few. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for upcoming events.

And, if you visit on a pleasant weather day, you could even walk 20 minutes to The Dalí Museum or 30 minutes to Sunken Gardens .

Overflow Brewing Company

770 1st Ave N, St. Petersburg, FL 33701

Next on the walking path is Overflow Brewing. A cute spot with outdoor seating, this is another brewery on the list with plenty of events on the calendar to plan around if you’d like! They have rotating food trucks, trivia nights, live music, board game nights and even live painting nights. You can usually view events on their Facebook page .

Green Bench Brewing Company & Webb’s City Cellar

1133 Baum Ave N, St. Petersburg, FL 33705

This is another can’t miss stop on the tour of St. Pete Breweries with two distinct taprooms. Originally Green Bench Brewing Company had one building with a taproom and an expansive beer garden to enjoy your brews. Green Bench has since opened up Webb’s City Cellar next door.

Webb’s is where you’ll find the funkiest, sourest, coolest offerings this brewery has in a smaller, more intimate setting. Plus, Webb’s is 21+ if you’re hoping to escape the more kid-friendly vibe of the beer garden area while enjoying your sours. The tap list varies by season.

In the summer, try the Lime Life lager, perfect for a warm day. In the winter you’ll find plenty of dark and roasty stouts along with tasty ciders. Green Bench often hosts movie showings on the lawn, with all kinds of other events like live music and book signings also gracing the brewery from time to time.

Cage Brewing

2001 1st Ave S, St. Petersburg, FL 33712

Cage Brewing is a super fun stop on this tour and right in the heart of the Grand Central District. There are two tap rooms inside, with plenty of arcade games and pinball machines to enjoy while tasting one of 18 beers available on tap.

Outside this St. Pete Brewery you’ll find a huge area with picnic tables and lawn games. Check out the events page for the concert schedule; there’s a great stage area outside.

Walking to Cage Brewing from Green Bench only take about 4 minutes, but you will be crossing under 275. Thankfully there are four other awesome breweries on this side of the tour.

Also, Good Intentions (one of our favorite plant-based restaurants ) is nearby as well as Trophy Fish (with great seafood and one of our favorite tropical bars in Tampa Bay ).

Pinellas Ale Works

1962 1st Ave S, St. Petersburg, FL 33712

Also known as PAW (a nod to the super dog-friendly vibe and fundraising for Pinellas County animal-related charities), Pinellas Ale Works is the next stop on the tour of St. Pete Breweries. Here you’ll find another notable tap room and beer garden as well as a permanent food truck where you can grab something to eat.

With more than 30 beers on tap, you’re guaranteed to find one to please your palate.

a group of friends and their dogs gather at Pinellas Ale Works St. Pete Brewery

3 Daughters Brewing

222 22nd St S, St. Petersburg, FL 33712

This stop is really an all-in-one. At 3 Daughters Brewing, you’ll find not just plenty of beer on tap (you may recognize the Beach Blonde Ale from store shelves around Tampa Bay), but a ton of fun and games to really kick your date night up a notch as well as a full food menu after a long day of drinking.

3 Daughters Brewing is a massive brewpub, so there’s almost always an event or something fun going on throughout the warehouse tasting room, game rooms and large open-air patio. Plus, if someone isn’t as into beer, 3 Daughters Brewing has cider and cocktails on draft as well, sure to appeal to anyone’s tastes.

DISCOVER: Tampa Bay Distilleries

Grand Central Brew House

Enormous, gorgeous, great indoor and outdoor spaces — Grand Central Brew House brings plenty to the table before you even have your first sip of beer. Eighteen taps provide a wide variety of beers made on the premises.

As a bonus, you can order food from LALA St. Pete and enjoy a great meal without ever leaving your seat at the brewery. Plus, the outdoor space is dog friendly!

Bayboro Brewing Co.

2390 5th Ave. S, St. Petersburg, FL 33712

One of the newer breweries in St. Petersburg, Bayboro offers not just great beers and a lovely beer garden, but a place to learn more about the beer making process as well. Settle in for a fun afternoon with your date, or even a group date in this comfortable community space.

And if you love nostalgic vibes, you’ll probably think the pinup-style beer labels are the bees’ knees.

Continue The Night…

Downtown St. Pete is also brimming with spots for food and fun. Sprinkle these through your St. Pete Breweries walking tour or use them to cap off your day!

St. Pete Pier

You’ll be best served to stop by the St. Pete Pier at the beginning or end of your walking tour. It’s about a 15-minute walk east of Cycle. The pier boasts gorgeous views, with bars and dining spots sprinkled up and down the waterfront walkway.

St. Pete Pier at night

Just steps from Cycle and St. Pete Brewing you’ll find DalMoros — an incredible pasta to-go spot imported straight from Italy. Grab a box of saucy noodles to carb load as you stroll to your next brewery.

Hawkers Asian Street Food

Located at about the middle of your crawl, you’ll find Hawker’s closest to Green Bench Brewing. This concept was born in Orlando, but the downtown St. Pete location serves up the same amazing food. Their baos are incredible and the perfect complement to a day of beer drinking.

Sauvignon Wine Locker & American Trattoria

Looking to have a nice dinner after a day of craft beer drinking? Try Sauvignon Wine Locker & American Trattoria. You’ll find this newish spot a few blocks from the St. Pete Pier. The wine selection is great and the menu is fresh and delicious. The vibe inside is intimate and cozy — perfect for date night.

The Florida Travel Girl

The 6 Best Breweries in St. Pete, Florida to Visit in 2024

Amy

I have been all over Florida trying breweries from Fort Myers to the Space Coast , but I have to say St. Petersburg is my favorite brewery destination. Though Tampa is a close contender, I always find myself coming back to St. Pete seeking out the breweries on this list! After many visits, I can definitively say these are six best breweries in St. Pete, Florida.

Though there are at least a dozen breweries in St. Pete, I want to highlight what makes this selection so special. This post will contain which places I recommend going for craft beer styles, atmosphere, food and more. Of course, if you are in the St. Pete area, it is worth branching out and trying some of the nearby Tampa and Clearwater breweries as well. However, even if you only stick to this list, you will not be disappointed with these six St. Petersburg, Florida breweries.

st petersburg florida breweries

Table of Contents

Green Bench Brewing Company

Starting off with possibly the best brewery in St. Pete is Green Bench Brewing Co. on the west end of downtown. This Black-owned brewery has literally everything you can imagine, including a picturesque biergarten, a diverse tap list and lots of fun events. You may have seen some of their core beers being distributed throughout Florida, including the Sunshine City IPA and the Postcard Pils.

Though they do have excellent IPAs like the Turbid 7 New England, this brewery also has made some amazing strides in mixed culture, sour and wild ales. So much so that across the biergarten is a barrel aging facility where you can try these unique brews. I recommend getting a beer (or a flight) from each venue and enjoying them on the lawn in the middle., Even better, if you like Mexican food, grab a burrito next door from Red Mesa Mercado and bring it over to Green Bench for the perfect St. Pete food and drink combination.

green bench st. pete

Dissent Craft Brewing Company

One brewery that is new on the radar of the best breweries in St. Pete, is Dissent Craft Brewing Co. , located five miles north of downtown. Though its strip mall store front may not seem like much, inside you will find a lively, friendly craft brewery and a top-notch beer selection. You can enjoy pints and flights on comfy chairs or at the bar, and they also allow dogs inside too!

The menu includes an always rotating selection, with unique choices like a Creamsicle Berliner and a Bourbon Aged Old Ale. There is definitely an emphasis on IPAs and sours, but you can usually find a few lager and pilsner options, as well as wine and cider for any non-beer drinkers.  If you are in the mood for food, be sure to check out their Facebook page for the food truck schedule and fun events like a charcuterie board assembling class!

Cycle Brewing

Tied for first place with Green Bench is Cycle Brewing . By far one of the best breweries in St. Pete, if not the best, Cycle Brewing can be found in the heart of downtown with its quirky, bicycle themed taproom. Though this has a much more city vibe than Green Bench, I love the industrial feel and option to sit in the shade of the garage, but still enjoy the open air.

Cycle established itself as a St. Pete classic years ago, with its barrel-aged stouts that always sell out during Craft Beer week. You can now find core beers like the Crank IPA and the Cream + Sugar Please Coffee Porter in stores, but you will have to go to the brewery to find their cutting age brews. My favorites include DIPA’s like LDR and stouts like Rare DOS, but the tap list is always changing. These serve almost entirely Stouts and IPAs, but even if that is out of your comfort zone, I recommend trying Cycle at least once!

downtown st. pete breweries

Pinellas Ale Works

All of the St. Pete breweries I have mentioned so far are pet-friendly, but by far the most pet friendly is Pinellas Ale Works (aka PAW) .  Located on the west edge of downtown, this dog-themed brewery is open to pups inside and out! This includes the cozy taproom and the shaded biergarten.

PAW is always coming out with creative brews, like the Horchata Rice Ale I recently tried, and Andrew’s favorite, the Smoky Red Ale. They often have at least twenty beers on tap, so there is something for everyone to try! There is also a permanent food truck now at the brewery with nachos, sandwiches and chicken wings if you are hungry. With events like Friends Fur-Ever Valentine’s and Dog Days of Summer, any animal lover will have a blast at this St. Petersburg brewery, whether they bring their dog or not!

3 Daughters Brewing

If you are looking for a fun atmosphere, then 3 Daughters is definitely one of the best breweries in St. Pete for it! This warehouse style taproom is just west of downtown St. Petersburg and is always a party to visit. They have multiple game rooms with ping pong, darts, shuffle board and board games. Outside there are corn hole boards and often live music as well. If you are seeking a St. Pete brewery tour, you can even take one here!

Of course, though 3 Daughters is a dynamic, family friendly place to hang out, they also serve excellent craft beer. You may have seen core beers like the Beach Blonde Ale and the Rod Bender Red Ale throughout Florida, but you can try all sorts of options at the brewery. They tend to have a good mix of core beers and I always love the Stern Line Oatmeal Stout and their Apple Cider.

The tap list covers many beer styles in addition to cider, hard seltzer, and more. Hungry visitors will be happy to know that this St. Pete brewery has food too, and the menu includes sandwiches and bar food to enjoy with your beer! This is ideal because between the beer and the atmosphere, we always stay here for hours.

St. Pete Brewing Company

One last downtown St. Pete brewery you have to try is aptly named St. Pete Brewing Company . This one is conveniently located a couple blocks from my favorite local hotel, the Hyatt Place St. Pete . It is an indoor taproom with some street seating and a laidback vibe, perfect for a relaxing trip to St. Pete.

You can usually find core beers like the Orange Wheat Ale and the Grateful Stout on the tap list, but St. Pete Brewing Co. has at least a dozen beers to try at all times. The beer here is more on the classic side with a focus on ales, wheat beers and European styles. I recommend getting a flight of six to try a variety and stay a while enjoying the live music or playing the video games here. You can even order food next door to optimize your time at one of the best breweries in St. Pete.

"The brew bus was a big hit for transportation to and from our wedding @ Florida Avenue Brewing. We hired them for transportation to/from four hotels and they made sure everyone got to the venue on time, and even made sure they didn’t leave any of us behind on the way home! Mike and the team were easy to work with, friendly, and Brittany even went out of her way at the end of the night to bring my friend her purse that was left on the bus. Everyone had a fun time and couldn’t stop talking about the brew bus."

"Bootleggers Brewing CO's Mug Club worked with Mike from Brew Bus to create a private experience. He was very flexible and attentive to our needs and made the process very easy! The club had an absolute blast and asked when we could do it again! I highly recommend Brew Bus tours for any event!"

"My very first time on the Local Loop, and the experience was "super stellar". We were a group of 11 awesome women plus our driver Mrs.Penny made us all feel welcomed. In other words "women ruled this tour". Beautiful sunny weather and all the places we visited were "outstanding". My favorite was BARRIEHAUS and the selection of local beers. And the patio where we played "corn toss" lots of fun. Yes I'd do it again, and I highly recommend."

"We booked a custom tour with Mike and his team the day after our wedding (10/10 recommend) and it was an amazing time. We had just under 40 people and had three brewery stops and one food stop. The team executed everything flawlessly and our entire group had a wonderful time. If you're considering taking a tour with these guys, just book the ticket now. It's a blast!"

"I scheduled a private Brew Bus for my fiancé and his friends as a surprise Bachelor Party. They had the best time! Mike was super communicative in helping me plan the stops. The driver, Barry, and Beertender were great! 10/10 across the board. Now I want to plan one that I can go on!"

"My bachelor party and I had a great time on our brewery tour! The beer attendant and our driver were very helpful and knowledgeable about the area and breweries. The beer we had on the bus and breweries were very good. 3 Daughters brewery even had a buy a sandwhich get a free beer deal which was awesome for our group. Another thing we loved about this trip is that we could pick breweries in different areas giving us the options of seeing more places while we were in town (we had never been to the tampa area for the most part). We really liked the St. Pete area and would recommend that to others who plan on visiting."

Our beers. Our passion. Our story.

How many beers does it take to put three daughters through college.

In the beginning, it all started with two questions for Leigh and Mike Harting. 1)Does craft beer really make a better beer-battered fish? 2)How are we going to put our 3 Daughters to college? While operating a successful restaurant in St. Petersburg, FL, Mike and his head chief Ty Weaver, were working on a recipe for a craft beer battered fish and decided to make it with their own hand-crafted brews. To them, it was a lot like cooking - you follow a recipe, adjust to taste, and then hope everyone likes the final product. Mike, Leigh, and Ty decided it was pretty good, so they put some on tap. To their surprise, it wasn't just pretty good. It outsold every other beer they had.

As they started brewing more and as the popularity of the beers grew, they decided to try to find a small but more advanced brewing system that would fit in the restaurant. Instead, they came upon an industrial-sized, 30-barrel brewhouse that took up more space than the entire dining room itself. Exasperated, Leigh looked at him and asked the all-important question: "How many beers do we have to sell to put to our three daughters through college?" And so, 3 Daughters Brewing was born, officially opening its doors in St. Petersburg in December of 2013 in a small 1600 square-foot tasting room. Mike worked hard on operations and funding, Ty used his unique experience to make amazing craft brews and Leigh jumped in the car and started selling 3 Daughters beer across the state of Florida.

Fast forward to today and 3 Daughters Brewing has grown into one of the largest independent breweries in Florida. Our tasting room in St. Petersburg is one of (if not) the busiest tasting rooms in the state, often serving over 250,000 annually in our large warehouse that has turned into a major live entertainment venue. In March of 2022, we opened our second tasting room in Clearwater Beach with its own brewing system and amazing views of Clearwater Beach.

In May of 2022, we also opened our first airport location inside of St.Pete-Clearwater International Airport serving over 2.4 million passengers annually. Thanks to Ty’s innovation and Mike’s drive we now also brew award-winning Beers, Ciders, Seltzers, Vodka+Soda Canned Cocktails, Energy Drinks, and Non-Alcoholic beverages (we also make our own honey). With Leigh always out selling our brands we are now found in every part of Florida from Key West to the Panhandle and from Jacksonville to Naples. You can also find 3 Daughters Brewing in every major retailer, amusement park, liquor store and most major restaurants throughout Florida.

Maris helped customize every detail of our tour and Rachel was an amazing and fun tour guide. Each of the breweries were a different experience and enjoyed the beer variety Read more Written October 18, 2021
  • David L 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Our second time around! We had an awesome tour, guided by owner Maris, in a Mercedes Benz Stinger...first class all the way. They pick you up and drop you off, no having to drive! Visited a number of breweries which were outstanding...Cage & Floating Boat...well, along with Green Bench. A super tour that's not to be missed if you're a beer tour fan. Take visitors from out of town, they'll love it. Thanks, Maris, we'll be back. Read more Written March 21, 2019
  • Baxterbeach 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles A really fun afternoon What a great way to spend some time exploring a few of the many breweries in the St. Pete area! Our guide Rachel was fun, informative and gave us great recommendations to get out of our comfort zone. Our eyes were opened to some new breweries we did not know existed and some new flavors we never thought we would like. We will definitely do this again, for the price it is so worth it to experiment and enjoy the beer and not get behind a vehicle! The vehicle was super clean and air conditioned and the driver was fantastic! Read more Written February 13, 2019
  • jkeohara 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles ***Read my review before you book a tour!!*** I travel round the globe for work, mainly in the USA but often find myself in the far East and Europe. I recently had a week in St.Petersburg and had a spare day. The concierge at my hotel (Don Cesar) gave me a couple of suggestions of what to do with a day off and i went for this tour. What a day, i can honestly tell you this was one of the best days I've had away from home. I met some amazing people, not just Maris who was knowledgeable, kind and such a good laugh. But the food was amazing, the drinks were fantastic and the activities include just rounded off the perfect day. I'm always weary of giving too much away! I always do a tour in each city i visit. Don't miss out on this one. It was by far the best!!! See you next time I'm back in Florida!!! Read more Written April 14, 2018

  • 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Must try! We had so much fun! You really need to try this experience to understand. If you are into craft beers, a good time, and meeting new awesome people this is the place to go! I made my purchase through Groupon for half off the original price but this is something I would pay full price for. My fiance and I are already planning on doing this again and working it in to something we do for our wedding parties. Maris and the team is so amazing. Maris met up with us at multiple locations and checked in with how our experience was going. We also met new people who we ended up hanging out with after the tour was over. The fact that they pick you up and drop you off allowed us to really enjoy the tour. We got different beers and flights at each stop! Definitely give this a try if you're looking for something fun to do! Read more Written July 16, 2017
  • Ben S 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Awesome! Our Thirsty Pelican experience was great! Maris and team provided 1st class service with 1st class transportation to top notch breweries in the St Pete / Tampa Bay area! We were picked up at our front door, treated to tacos (and a beer) before heading out to an invite only brewing event in Tampa. The Thirsty Pelican team was very educated in their beer and accommodating. They also made us feel like friends/family throughout the entire event. This is a must do for those visiting or living in the area. Read more Written June 22, 2017

  • Chris W 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles A Night to Remember! I chose Thirsty Pelican Tours for my brother's bachelor party and they were fantastic. Unlike other brew tours in the St. Pete/Tampa area, they were accommodating and flexible, and did everything they could to make sure the night was perfect for us. I especially appreciated all of the personal touches they provided: having beer trivia (and prizes!) on the bus, capturing photos of everyone having fun, and making sure the music playlists on the bus were catered specifically for the groom to be. Our tour hosts from Thirsty Pelican were extremely friendly and clearly communicated the plans for the evening at beginning of the night. That was important because it eliminated any confusion later when everyone was less, let's say-- “aware.” Everyone had an amazing time and I would recommend Thirsty Pelican tours to anyone. Thanks guys! Read more Written April 10, 2017

Green Bench Brewing Company

Well, it’s that time of year again. Fall-flavored everything stacks up in stores, restaurants and breweries alike, and the weather adjusts to bearable. Green Bench Monthly decided to celebrate the change in seasons by creating a local beer tour for our readers, so you, too, can take a walk and taste what’s brewing in St. Petersburg this season.

Cycle Brewing (534 Central Ave.)

Cycle Brewing

We start the tour at Cycle Brewing, which offers both an outdoor garage atmosphere and a dark-corner-in-a-bar feel. One side of the brewery is flanked with built-in nooks and the other leads you through a garage door to the street. It isn’t lavish, but that’s not the point. The point is to brew some seriously good beer. Try their Cream and Sugar, Please Porter or their most popular IPA, Crank.

Fall flavor: Das Rad Oktoberfest.

Can’t stop thinking about: The impressive selection of IPAs.

St. Pete Brewing Company (544 1st Ave. N.—.2 miles from Cycle)

Next, a short walk around the block gets you to St. Pete Brewing Company. It’s another garage-style space with a rollup door, but with a completely different feel. The beer is brewed in the back and there are a few old-school gaming systems separating the beer from the bar. Games are scattered throughout if you want to take it easy. If, instead, you want to brush up on your beer-related knowledge, ask for Neil.

Fall flavor: Drop Dead ‘Gourd’eous Pumpkin Ale.

Can’t stop thinking about: Throat Punch D.I.P.A.—Fun to say and a joy to drink.

Green Bench Brewing Company (1133 Baum Ave. N.—.6 miles from St Pete Brewing Company)

Green Bench Brewing Company

It’s a bit of a walk to the next stop. From those who brought you the beers Push It and Purple Rain, Green Bench Brewery isn’t one to miss…and we aren’t just saying that because we share a non-affiliated name. Sit inside for a view of their exquisite brew room. At night, if you are lucky—and I hope you are— they might even have their fire pit going outside.

Fall flavor: They serve Belgian-style beers, and because Belgians don’t necessarily brew beers for specific seasons, neither do they.

Can’t stop thinking about: The fire pit. I’m not giving up yet.

Avid Brewing and Growing Supplies (1745 1st Ave. S.—.5 miles from Green Bench)

Another long walk brings you to Avid. You wouldn’t think it had working taps hidden behind the brewing and hydroponic growing supplies, but you’d be wrong. Avid has just broken ground out back for a full brewery and event space, but for now you can enjoy the hybrid feel of a supply store blended with a tiny tasting room and brewing kitchen. They currently have four rotating fermentations—one even brewed by their fermentation class. To get in on the brewing class on Jan. 7, talk to Connor.

Fall flavor: Take it easy. They only have four brews at the moment! Given their style, though, when the backyard brewery is complete, I bet their fall flavor will incorporate a Florida fall fruit.

Can’t stop thinking about: The fact that you can casually purchase a hydrometer on the way out.

Pinellas Ale Works (PAW) (1962 1st Ave. S.—.2 miles from Avid Brewing Supplies)

Pinellas Ale Works

A short jaunt from Avid gets you to PAW. Every beer is dog themed, and the bar is incredibly pooch friendly. PAW is another brewery with big plans. The lot has three buildings, and they have hopes of turning one of those into a restaurant. Until then, we can enjoy their beer and their Wednesday night trivia from 7pm-9pm.

Fall flavor: Pawtoberfest.

Can’t stop thinking about: Smoke Dog. It’s intense and intriguing and, for now, they are still testing out different wood types.

Cage Brewery (2001 1st Ave. S.—catty-corner from PAW)

Ready to have more fun? Walk across the street and one block over to Cage. Their beers are as playful as the space they occupy. Find out by trying the Mango Bob’s IPA. We did! Cage is also filled to the brim with events. Try their Monday Open Mic Night from 7pm-11pm or the puppet-making workshop by Box of Bad Jokes on Oct. 23 from 1pm-3pm.

Fall flavors: Uncle Fester Oktoberfest and Cousin IT Pumpkin Ale.

Can’t stop thinking about: The literal cage they keep all of their supplies behind.

3 Daughters Brewing (222 2nd Ave. S.—.2 miles from Cage)

3 Daughters Brewing

The third stop in St. Pete’s ‘beer’muda triangle lands us at 3 Daughters Brewing— another staple of the town. This big, beautiful warehouse has everything, including a tasting lab, several game rooms, and a stage that sits across from pallet after pallet of 3 Daughters adult canned goodies. Stop by for brews and listen to the Urban Gypsies play on that stage, Oct. 28 from 8pm-11pm.

Fall flavor: Oktoberfest.

Can’t stop thinking about: Coffee Blonde Ale and the entire room filled with ping-pong tables.

Urban Comfort Brewery (2601 Central Ave.—.5 miles from 3 Daughters)

If you’ve made it this far on the beer tour, celebrate with one last cold brew and some downright southern scratch cooking. They are proud to be downtown St. Petersburg’s only current restaurant and brewery. The former gas station has indoor and outdoor seating, where you can enjoy a plate of meatloaf with your 1516 Dark Lager, or take your pint over to their shuffleboard courts.

Fall flavor: Nothing yet, but don’t fret. Brewmaster Franz has some good stuff in the works.

Can’t stop thinking about: Their Georgia O’Keefe Imperial Stout.

In all, it’s an ambitious journey. For a shorter version, start at Green Bench, head to Avid, then make the short journey to PAW and Cage. If you feel like you have a bit more in you, end at 3 Daughters. Just note that Avid closes at 6pm right now, so plan accordingly. If you feel inspired, take the journey and send us photos of your beer tour!
