Experience the majesty of Iceland with more sailings in and out of Reykjavík than any other cruise line

You’ll quickly fall in love with the majestic landscapes and old-world charm of Iceland. And with the most sailings in and out of Reykjavik of any cruise line, Norwegian’s Iceland Cruise options are plentiful. The country's colourful capital may be hard to pronounce (it's RAKE + YUH + VIK), but its history, culture and natural beauty make it impossible to forget. Visit nearby sites like The Blue Lagoon, the flower-filled lava fields of Thingvellir National Park, and the magnificent Gullfoss waterfall (aka The Golden Waterfall). Sail to Iceland's remote Westfjord region offering everything from hiking to watersports, then continue to Akureyri - the centre of Icelandic folk culture. Along the way, you’ll see fjords and flowers in every direction. Discover greater Northern Europe on your cruise with stops to cities like Amsterdam, Brussels, London, or Paris, and visits to lush sceneries like Norway and Scotland.

About ICELAND CRUISES

Iceland Cruises - Golden Ring

Discover The Golden Circle

As one of Norwegian's top Shore Excursions, The Golden Circle is a must-see day trip only 30 miles from Reykjavik. The Circle consists of three sites starting with Thingvellir national park - a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the mountains. This park is a lava plain filled with wildflowers. The second stop is the spectacular Geysir Geothermal Area – populated by hot springs and other geothermal phenomena. And the final site is the famous Gullfoss waterfall, or The ‘Golden Waterfall’. The Golden Circle is also called The Golden Ring and the journey there is referred to as “Ring Road.”

Iceland Cruises - Isafjordur

Discover the Westfjords & Isafjordur

From remote fishing villages to outdoor activities to cascading mountains, Iceland’s Westfjords are one of a kind. Isafjordur , the home of the largest fjord, offers cultural heritage and colourful valleys. Drive through the breathtaking West Fjord mountains, populated by quant farms and villages. Stop in the old shark-fishing town of Flateyri.  Don’t miss Skrudur, Iceland’s oldest botanical garden. And embrace the great outdoors – the region is renowned for its excellent hiking, kayaking and birdwatching. Culture, history, maritime life and breathtaking landscapes make this area an unforgettable experience.

Transform the Way You See the World with Adventure Canada

Founded in 1987, Adventure Canada is a family-run travel company specializing in small-ship expeditions to the world’s most beautiful and seldom visited coastlines.

What are our travellers saying?

Pay homage to adventurers past at historic Beechey Island

Visit one of the most notorious sites in the Arctic: Beechey Island. See the graves of three mariners with the lost Franklin expedition, explore artefacts left by Franklin searchers, and marvel at what it was like for Englishmen to live and die here, so distant from the only world they knew.

© Mark Edward Harris

Marvel at enormous icebergs in Ilulissat

Ilulissat means “icebergs.” The name says it all. Visit Sermeq Kujalleq (Jakobshavn Glacier), the busiest glacier in the Northern Hemisphere, spewing 20 billion tonnes of ice per year. Tour amongst the skyscraping bergs by Zodiac, peruse the local museums and shops, and dine on distinctive Greenlandic fare.

Follow the sea lanes of history through the Northwest Passage

Squeak past bleak headlands and islands where Franklin’s men fell in their tracks. Sail near the graveyards of the Arctic’s most infamous shipwrecks, the Erebus and Terror . Learn about the ongoing investigations and marvel at the mysteries of that most tragic expedition.

Take it easy with local wildlife in Tallurutiup Imanga, a protected Inuit waterway

Sail and Zodiac through Tallurutiup Imanga, a landmark marine sanctuary established through a pact between Inuit and Canada. Here, the greatest Arctic whales, bus-sized bowheads, skim for plankton while belugas and narwhal gobble cod in the fjords. Keep your binoculars at the ready.

Cross the Arctic Circle

Sailing up Kangerlussuaq Fjord (Søndre Strømfjord) is a true polar pleasure. A whopping 190 kilometres long but just two klicks wide, this remarkable seaway is flanked all along by frosted peaks and glaciers. En route you’ll cross the Arctic Circle—an achievement few travellers can claim.

Sail into dramatic fjords, narrow straits and breathtaking bays, and call in on remote villages where Inuit communities have lived off the land for hundreds of years. Heading ever northward, follow leads through the ice to search for the King of the Arctic, the polar bear, along with other iconic wildlife from whales to walrus. Finally, in the farthest reaches of the region, discover the untamed beauty of the storied Northwest Passage and experience the intoxicating thrill of true exploration.

There are numerous high points along this northernmost Baffin Bay itinerary. Travel well above 80º north and learn dramatic stories of the explorers and adventurers who sought this magnificent, icy frontier. Glide between soaring icebergs at the mouth of Greenland’s Ilulissat Icefjord, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Explore Ellesmere Island with binoculars at the ready to spot polar bears, walruses, ringed seals, belugas, bowhead whales and the elusive narwhal. Visit the “Jewel of the North,” Pond Inlet, a small Inuit community known for its friendly community and world-renowned soapstone carvings. And marvel at the unique volcanic black-sand beaches, hot springs and waterfalls of Disko Island, a Greenlandic island often compared to Iceland.

High Arctic Archipelago: Canada & Greenland Itinerary

This 24-day itinerary operates round-trip from Reykjavik, Iceland, with charter flights to embark and disembark in Kangerlussuaq, Greenland.

Route map of Gateway to The Northwest Passage: Greenland & Canada cruise, cruising Baffin Bay round-trip from Kangerlussuaq, Greenland with bookend charter flights to start & end in Reykjavik, Iceland.

Arrive in Reykjavík. Take a tour excursion to see Iceland’s hot springs, beautiful Icelandic Horses and a fascinating power plant. After lunch, check into the centrally located group hotel.

lunch, dinner

The morning is at leisure followed by lunch and a tour of the city ending at either the National Museum or the Whale Museum. Transfer to the airport for a chartered flight to Greenland and embark the ship at the head of Kangerlussuaq fjord, a 120-mile-long waterway whose name means “large fjord” in Greenlandic.

National Geographic Endurance

breakfast, lunch, dinner

Dozens of deep fjords carve into Greenland’s west coast, many with glaciers fed by the ice sheet that covers about 80 percent of the country. Discover this beautiful and rugged coastline in Zodiacs, keeping an eye out for humpback and minke whales. At Sisimiut, a former whaling port, visit the museum and stroll around a picturesque jumble of historic and modern wooden buildings.

Sail into Qeqertarsuup Tunua, also known as Disko Bay, to explore the World Heritage site of Ilulissat Icefjord, a tongue of the Greenland ice cap that extends to the sea. Take an extraordinary cruise among towering icebergs at the mouth of the fjord. Visit the town of Ilulissat and walk to the archaeological site in Sermermiut, an abandoned valley previously inhabited by several distinct Inuit cultures.

Continue exploring the Canadian High Arctic with a visit to the small Inuit community of Pond Inlet, Nunavut. Explore some of the beautiful bays and inlets along Baffin Island’s Lancaster Sound, a favorite Inuit hunting and fishing location for hundreds of years. Carved by Ice Age glaciers, Lancaster Sound is also the eastern gateway to the Arctic Archipelago, where European explorers like William Baffin first ventured in the 17th century to search for the Northwest Passage. Days here will be spent searching for ringed seals, arctic foxes, walruses and polar bears, as well as beluga and bowhead whales. Visit Devon Island and take a walk with the ship’s archaeologist to learn about the Thule people—ancestors of the modern Inuit—that once inhabited this region.

Explore the ice-choked channels and glacier carved islands that stretch for hundreds of miles— a stunning display of raw geology. Delve into the rocky Mars-like terrain of uninhabited Devon Island. Take cues from nature: following wildlife, stopping for hikes on the tundra, dropping anchor in a beautiful fjord or an iceberg-strewn bay to explore and kayak beneath massive ice sculptures and soaring cliffs. Sail past the northernmost part of mainland North America in the Bellot Strait, one of the narrowest and most infamous of the passage. Learn about the Inuit peoples who have hunted and fished here for thousands of years, as well as be on the lookout for the animals that call this region home such as ringed seals, arctic foxes, musk oxen, walruses and polar bears, as well as beluga and bowhead whales.

Heading ever northward, the ship makes her way up the beautiful and remote east coast of Ellesmere Island. Cruise along scenic Smith Bay (a.k.a. Skog Inlet) bordered by a steep wall of mountains, with a glacial ice tongue which pours down the mountains on either side. Be up on the bridge to search for a patch of “polar bear ice,” the mixture of first-year and multi-year sea ice that is the preferred habitat of the ice bears. Your binoculars seek out any small ivory-colored dot on an otherwise white ice surface, then strain to see the dot move. Yes, it is a bear, spotted at a considerable distance. The ship approaches, ever so slowly, stalking the polar bear much as the bear stalks seals on the ice. At the end of the bay, go ashore to hike or kayak in picturesque surroundings. Ice is always present here.

During the next day, enter Buchanan Bay and turn into Alexandra Fjord to reach the area of Skraeling Island. (“Skraeling” is the word that the Norse settlers of Greenland used for the Inuit.) This is the site of an important archaeological find. Norse artifacts show that the Norse traded with the natives here on Ellesmere Island, far north of their settlements on Greenland. Last summer, quite unexpectedly, the remains of a summer encampment of natives were discovered, possibly of the Thule Culture (the third of the three Inuit cultures to occupy this area.) Travelers saw rings of stones that held down the edges of skin tents against the wind, and stone chambers that might have been constructed for storage. Perhaps the Inuit camped at this very site as they traded with the Norsemen, exchanging skins and walrus ivory for European goods, especially metal.

Continue to explore north, ice conditions permitting. Take full advantage of your “human resources”—your experienced captain, expedition leader and naturalists—as well as the ship’s technological resources. Chart where the ice is impenetrable and where there are leads guiding all to exciting discoveries.

Marking the southern border of Melville Bay, Kiatassuaq Island means “a large torso” in the Greenlandic language and is known as an important area for whaling in the 19th century. Spend the day exploring the southern reaches of Melville Bay and shores of the island, marveling at the ice dispatched from the Greenland Ice Cap as well as being on the lookout for whales and other marine life.

Continue south, stopping to explore the volcanic Disko Island, home to isolated Greenlandic settlements, dramatic cliffs laced with waterfalls and black-sand beaches.

Sail back into Søndre Strømfjord to Kangerlussuaq and disembark the ship. Take an evening charter flight to Reykjavík and transfer to the Marriott Keflavik Airport Hotel. On the final morning, choose to enjoy a soak in the Blue Lagoon or take a tour of the Reykjanes Peninsula before transferring to the airport for flights home.

P.E.I.'s first cruise ship of the year marks early start to Island tourism season

Ship arrives in time for solar eclipse, as tourism association hoping for another strong season.

The first cruise ship of the season sailed into Charlottetown Harbour on Monday morning, ahead of the total solar eclipse, though some tourist shops along the waterfront remained closed.

The MSC Poesia, which arrived around 8 a.m., is scheduled to depart at 5 p.m.

It can carry more than 3,000 passengers and nearly 1,000 crew members. It's roughly two and a half weeks earlier than last year's first port call.

Nellies and Reggies souvenir and gift shop was one of the few stores at Peakes Quay open for business Monday.

  • P.E.I. tourism operators optimistic with high turnout at job fair

Owner Nellie Murray said she took advantage of the nice weather to take the plywood off the windows and start sales for the season. She said she usually can't find staff until May.

"I'm just going to work around today at getting things ready for the season," she said.

Murray said sales have improved year-over-year since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, and she's hoping that trend continues this season.

"I'm finding more and more people are wanting to travel and get out of where they are just for a change, even in the Maritimes," she said.

Corryn Clemence, CEO of the Tourism Industry Association of P.E.I., said while there won't be as many conventions and other events as last year, operators are hoping for a strong year for both golf and leisure.

"There's I think four big fish conventions coming in," she said, each bringing at least 400 delegates starting in May. "We have a lot of great festivals and events that are taking place this year, some that are happening standard in the summer season, but some ... into the fall."

Clemence said a strong tourism season is good news for the Island, even though some may complain about the extra traffic and people.

"As Islanders, maybe sometimes we take it for granted," she said. "But the tax revenues that are generated by our industry help to support so many other areas within government ... education, health care, all of these roadways and infrastructures."

Two more cruise ships are scheduled to arrive in Charlottetown this month: the Viking Polaris on April 25, and the Volendam four days later.

In total, 96 cruise ships are scheduled to visit Charlottetown this year.

The busiest day is expected to be Oct. 1, when the harbour will see four ships docked at the same time.
