  • 739annettk 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Unacceptable cancellation policy - be aware!!! Booked and fully prepaid a 1 hour cruise in October 2023 for our group of 18 back in May 2023. On the day of the cruise we had one person really sick and he couldn't participate. I did ask for a refund for the one ticket, but was told that the refund policy is 7 days. This is ridiculous! Prepaid month in advance and they cannot refund 1 ticket out of 18?! I loved working with the local tour operators in the past, but this company seems to get the small ones out of business and rule everything. Be aware! Don't pre-book!!! There was lots of space on the ship, even though it was a beautiful and sunny day. Read more Written October 31, 2023
  • TERRAvelista 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Will be back We came once again here, as we cannot get enough of this great part of the world with it's small islands stretching between USA and Canada and yes, most surely we will come again in the future. Although we set our base in Belleville, we were travelling returning from our 3000 km trip between PEI and Toronto and I called in advance to ensure the cruise will not be busy for their afternoon 1h tour: - the person on the phone confirmed there were only a few people buying tickets due to being late September and asked to pay a fee higher than what we paid later on at the ticket office - we noticed nowadays the ticket office is housed in a different building, where they also have a souvenir shop but no toilets. The original building is now a shop and restaurant with live music - although I took pictures of the City cruises, we actually took the Thousand island boat which is laid on 2 levels: the first level with air conditioned inside and where the bar with drinks/snacks is and also toilets. The second level is not covered and a seagull travelled with us without paying any fee - Mr Bad!!!! - the tour is narrated and you learn lots of things about the life on the islands, how difficult is to get the produce and how most are un-inhabited in the cold season - there are still some people on the island waiving friendly or kayakers - after getting the tickets and parking the car at a discounted cost in their car park, we were fortunate to be the first in line for this boat, some 30min earlier: when we were here in the past, we noticed how people were running to get the best seats which is not nice to see. Even so, near us, there was a group who kept moving in 3 different directions repeatedly to take their 'best pictures' annoying just about everybody. Everything is very idyllic, yet every single time I get a headache, no idea why: could be the engine smell, or the heat etc. Yet we are still going to return here. Read more Written October 28, 2023
  • 991antonr 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Pleasant trip The boat was ok but very noisy on the lower deck. One of the seats on the upper deck had a small split which caused a small tear in my wife's trousers. The commentary was reasonably clear and provided some interesting information. It was a pleasant 3 hour cruise, although the amount of development on the islands and along the river bank was surprising. Read more Written October 25, 2023

  • Anonymous855 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles A long 3 hour cruise with not much to see I was hoping the trees would be turning colors but nope and so until we got to Boldt castle, it was a bit dull. Pretty scenery for about 30 minutes, that's enough. We circled the castle island twice and then came back, of course, the same route. Now I was bored and went down a deck to eat popcorn and check my phone. 3 hours was too long for an adult with a terrific attention span....think about it. Parking was more expensive than the website says too. Read more Written September 28, 2023

  • G W 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles 1000 Island Cruise and Boldt Castle Tour For the cost this is a great trip. The boat ride through the 1000 islands was very nice with a preprogrammed narration of stories and some facts. Arriving at the castle, we were in a location that enabled us to exit the boat sooner than later, which was good as my only complaint is there needs to be a more efficient way of checking people through border security or maybe not fill the boat to its maximum capacity. This did not affect us at all, but we did witness some people just clearing security and we had already been on the grounds for almost an hour. I felt bad for them, they would have only had an hour to tour the castle and grounds and that’s not enough time to fully enjoy the experience. Now, as for the castle and grounds, it is stunning. We had a beautiful warm sunny day, we really enjoyed wandering and reading the information plaques. They also have a self guided tour option that you can listen to on your phone. If you’re Canadian this might be a challenge if you have your phone in airplane mode to not get charged for roaming in the US. The boat departed on time at 10am. Approximately 11:15am we were at the island. Return to the boat was 1:20pm Depart the island at 1:40pm Arrived at the dock in Gananoque approximately 2:45. There is beverages snacks, popcorn and hotdogs on the boat for purchase. There is washrooms located on the boat, at the docks and in the castle. And at the dock of the castle there is a little cafe to grab a bite to eat (just give yourself time for that). If you have mobility issues there is an elevator at the castle. But the hill to get into the castle is a little steep. Dress appropriately, good walking shoes and a sweater or jacket as the chill off the water and when the boat was in motion was chilly if you were outside. Our group all agreed we would recommend and even do this tour again sometime. Read more Written September 24, 2023
  • 615filomenag 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles The Worse Boat Tour First of all, the price was ridiculous much more than the one we took with Clayton Tours in Kingston and it was approximately 3 hrs. I am still fighting with this company for my refund. It also cost $9 to park they kept stressing it was all day parking. The tour NEVER TOOK PLACE! They had us all board the boat and for the first 30 mins it was TOTAL SILENCE - no one spoke to any of us. Finally, I asked 2 very nice girls at snack bar what was up. They told us that the sound and video system was down and we would only be riding on the river for an hr clueless to our surroundings. They knew of a couple things and were kind enough to point them out. BOGUS!!!! Read more Written September 24, 2023

The only negative thing about the 5 hour cruise is the time is takes to disembark and clear customs! Cuts into the time allowed to visit castle, we felt rushed to be able to see everything (which we didn't). Also I feel that there should be more information shared during the trip over about George Boldt. Video about George in the castle, but not enough time to see it. Read more Written September 18, 2023

City Cruises Gananoque – 5 iconic cruise options in the 1000 Islands

City Cruises Gananoque, the oldest and largest cruise line in the 1000 Islands, kicks off their 2022 season May 7th.

City Cruises Gananoque

“The beauty of the 1000 Islands is unparalleled,” says Mory Dimaurizio, Chief Operating Officer of City Cruises in Canada. “Explore the history of lost ships, enjoy breathtaking views and visit the magnificent Boldt Castle. A cruise through the 1000 Islands is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

On May 7th, City Cruises Gananoque will launch its Original Hart, Depths and Discovery and Boldt Castle tours from its Gananoque port, while the Landmarks cruise will launch from its Ivy Lea port. The Sunset cruises will start June 25th.

Original Heart of the 1000 Islands

Take a one-hour cruise taking you closer than any other cruise available in the 1000 Islands. Referred to by the Iroquois Nation as the “Garden of the Great Spirit,” the tranquility of the area belies a history of adventures, wars and rebellions. See fifth- and sixth-generation family cottages. Cruise the narrow channels of the Admiralty and Navy group of islands in the most intimate tour the 1000 Islands has to offer.

Landmarks of the 1000 Islands Cruise

Sailing from the Ivy Lea port, experience the 1000 Islands and see Boldt Castle, the Statue of St. Lawrence, 1000 Islands International Bridge and Zavikon Islands containing the smallest International Bridge in the world, during this cruise in the heart of the 1000 Islands. Cruise past the Statue of St. Lawrence, while he watches peacefully over the moving vessels and mighty St. Lawrence River. This statue is only visible from the water, standing high above on a rock cut.

Depths and Discovery of the 1000 Islands Cruise

The three-hour Depths & Discovery of the 1000 Islands Cruise is a Canadian Signature Experience. This tour combines video and audio commentary along with side-scan sonar images, bringing events and stories back to life. You will see the famed Boldt Castle and lavish homes of the rich & famous on “Millionaire’s Row.” Discover the remarkable feats of engineering required to build the St. Lawrence Seaway, 1000 Islands International bridge and so much more!

Boldt Castle Stopover Cruise

Set sail on a five-hour cruise and sail through the American span of the 1000 Islands, before your two-hour stopover at Boldt Castle, where you will step back in time to explore the romantic legend of Boldt Castle. Enjoy a magnificent return voyage through the Canadian span of the 1000 Islands on the largest and most iconic passenger vessels on the St. Lawrence River.

Everything You Need to Know About Cruising the 1000 Islands

By Caitlin Carpenter

Once patrolled by pirates and bootleggers, the 1000 Islands between Kingston and Brockville are now a sightseer’s paradise where you’re just as likely to discover historic castles and quaint waterfront villages as opulent vacation homes and rich wildlife. And perhaps the best view of it all comes while aboard one of the many different cruises offered in the region. Here’s what you can expect from the six cruise operators setting off in the 1000 Islands this summer.

1000 Islands & Seaway Cruises

The sightseeing and dining tours offered by 1000 Islands & Seaway Cruises should satisfy almost every one of your cruising needs. In 2011, the Brockville-based company introduced a high-speed catamaran called the “WildCat” that whisks you into the heart of the 1000 Islands on a two-hour “AdrenIsland” cruise ($59.95) featuring views of Boldt and Singer Castles or a one-hour “Singer Castle Express” cruise ($32.50). If speed isn’t your thing, there are traditional tours, including the 1.5-hour Jewels of the St. Lawrence Tour ($22.50), which features a tour of the Eastern Group of the Thousand Islands, Millionaire’s Row and Brockville’s historic waterfront. There are also fully licensed lunch, brunch and dinner cruises available starting at just $37.17. 1000islandscruises.com

1000 Islands Gananoque

Gananoque boat line.

With five triple-decker aluminum vessels at its disposal, Gananoque Boat Line is the oldest and largest cruise operator in the 1000 Islands. That size and experience allows it to offer traditional one-hour tours of the islands around Gananoque ($20.95) and Ivy Lea ($20.95) as well as a rare five-hour Boldt Castle Stopover Cruise ($40.74) and a 2.5-hour Lost Ships of the 1000 Islands Cruise ($31.43) that uses side sonar technology, researched interpretation, underwater video and historical photos to reveal several shipwrecks in the area. They also have a full lineup of evening tours, including a pirate cruise, dinner and dancing cruises, live music cruises, and a murder mystery dinner cruise. ganboatline.com

Rockport Boat Line

Rockport is a tiny village about twenty kilometres east of Gananoque that’s now a major terminus for seven Thousand Islands cruises offered by the Rockport Boat Line. The relaxing “Heart of the Islands” cruise is a one-hour tour that takes you past Boldt Castle, Zavikon Island and Millionaire’s Row ($22). For castle lovers, there’s the “Boldt Castle Tour,” which takes you on a 3.5 hour long voyage and includes a stopover at Boldt Castle ($30 plus $8 admission fee to the castle), and the “Two Castle Tour,” which includes stops at Boldt Castle and Singer Castle ($95). The two-hour “Palaces & Palisades Cruise” features the Canadian Palisades where a statue of St. Lawrence watches over the river that bears his name ($28). There’s also a “Sunset Cruise” without a dinner option ($30). rockportcruises.com

Kingston 1000 Islands Cruises

One of two cruise companies operating out of the Limestone City, Kingston 1000 Islands Cruises has three ships for you to choose from. The Island Star is a 200-passenger capacity glass top vessel perfect for cruising the islands while sampling from the lunch or dinner menus, which feature items like Atlantic salmon and chicken Florentine. The Island Queen, a 300-passenger capacity Mississippi Paddlewheeler, takes you on three-hour “Heart of the Island” tours through the small cottage islands of the Admiralty group, past the new Mandalay Mansion and by the historic sights of Kingston. The Island Belle is a 150-passenger capacity replica St. Lawrence Steamer that offers 90-minute “Discovery Cruises.” Narrated by the living spirit of Canada’s First Prime Minister and Kingston native son, Sir John A. Macdonald, these cruises are the perfect introduction to the unique sights and heritage of the region and Canada’s first capital. 1000islandscruises.ca

St. Lawrence Cruise Lines

This family business that’s been operating for thirty plus years offers a four-day, three-night voyage of the 1000 Islands that boards and disembarks from Kingston. The stately Canadian Empress — which features two decks, a dining room, a grand salon, a lounge and three observation decks — will be your guide as you meander your way amongst the bays, channels and passages of the Thousand Islands. The tour also includes stops at Fort Wellington and a bus trip to the 1000 Islands SkyDeck, among a variety of other activities. Your overnight ports will be 1000 Islands Anchorage, Ivy Lea and Brockville. stlawrencerivercruise.com

“(Enjoy) any of the four tours that set sail to explore the Canadian Gateway to the archipelago where Lake Ontario empties into the St. Lawrence River,” said Stephen Murdoch, vice president of Public Relations for CCG. “Launched in 1951 as the Gananoque Boat Line, City Cruises Gananoque operates five triple-decker, all-aluminum vessels with ports in Gananoque and Ivy Lea.”

Two different one-hour cruises are available for this season in addition to a three-hour cruise and one of five hours duration. Each takes a slightly different route, but all give passengers a chance to explore the beautiful Thousand Islands.

“The Thousand Islands are not only an incredible vista, but the area is also rich with history and fascinating stories of the people who have called it home,” said Mory DiMaurizio, COO of City Cruises in Canada. “From small cottage islands to majestic estates, the views are breathtaking. A cruise through the Thousand Islands is an experience that should be on your bucket list.”

One-hour cruises depart from both Ivy Lea and Gananoque. The former allows guests to view the statue of St. Lawrence (which can only be seen from the water). This statue was commissioned and installed by Hal McCarney and made possible by his work and that of his fellow river rats. It was carved by Belleville sculptor Jim Smith and stands guard over the islands and the river. The cruise also passes by Boldt Castle.

The Gananoque cruise hugs the shorelines and gives an up close and personal look at the local scenery, including multi-generational cottages with a chance to slip down the channels of the Admiralty and Navy islands to get a feel of what the life there must be like.

The very popular three-hour cruise departs from Gananoque and features a running commentary of the trip in both French and English. It glides through “Millionaire’s Row” and past Boldt Castle allowing passengers to feast their eyes on the wonders of the islands while learning as little history along the way.

The longest cruise offered is a five-hour trip with a stopover at Boldt Castle and a chance to explore Heart Island. It also takes in Millionaire’s Row, the St. Lawrence Seaway and the Thousand Islands Bridge, and the ticket price includes admission to Boldt Castle. A valid passport is required due to Heart Island being an official US Port of Entry.

“(City Cruises) offers three Canadian port locations of City Experiences, the water- and land-based experiences owned by the Hornblower Group,” said Murdoch. “Featuring Niagara City Cruises, City Cruises Toronto and City Cruises Gananoque, City Cruises in Canada boasts the best sightseeing experiences and finest dining cruises on the water. Niagara City Cruises — rated as Canada’s top visitor experience – gets you deep into the mist, up close and personal with the power of Niagara Falls. City Cruises Toronto offers a range of dining, cocktail, and sightseeing cruises, as well as private events and charters, with unparalleled views of Toronto’s iconic city skyline. City Cruises Gananoque offers breathtaking voyages through the Thousand Islands archipelago where the St. Lawrence River meets Lake Ontario.”

One of the seats on the upper deck had a small split which caused a small tear in my wife's trousers. The commentary was reasonably clear and provided some interesting information.

Sights of Elektrostal, Moscow region

2024 Author : Harold Hamphrey | [email protected] . Last modified: 2023-12-17 10:06

In the Moscow region there is a small cozy town Elektrostal. Its sights for the most part have no historical value due to the fact that the city has a relatively small history. But for a visiting tourist or city dweller, they will be of interest. There is something to see, where to go to have an exciting leisure time.

Today the population of the city is 158 thousand people. Until the beginning of the 20th century there were several small workers' settlements here. After the opening of the electrometallurgical and equipment factories, the place began to be called the natural boundary of Calm. The construction of the railway made this settlement accessible, and workers and families flocked here to earn money. In 1925, the station was named Elektrostal, and the rapid increase in population allowed the village to receive the status of a city.

attractions elektrostal photo

The founder of the city is a prominent Russian industrialist Nikolai Vtorov. It was he who opened the plant here, creating, in fact, a city-forming enterprise that is still operating. In Soviet times, it was a closed facility, and it was not easy to get to work here.

Today Elektrostal is a promising industrial city with a great future and a heroic past. It bears the proud name "City of Military and Labor Glory".

You can learn about the sights of Elektrostal with descriptions and photos here. There are places for walking, outdoor activities and cultural development.

sights of the electric steel of the Moscow region

Those who come to the city by train are met by a monument to the metallurgist. It was installed in November 2017 for the 100th anniversary of the Elektrostal plant. The attraction is made in the style of constructivism. The monument quickly won the love of the townspeople, because this city is supported by ordinary workers.

Elektrostal attractions photo with description

Elektrost altsy and the founding father of the plant, Nikolai Vtorov, are honored. In 2002, a monument was opened in honor of him, which became a landmark of the city of Elektrostal. The bronze sculpture is installed on the site where once stood a monument to the leader of the world proletariat, V. I. Lenin. Times change, characters change. Today, the plant, founded a century ago, is the largest in Russia. Vtorov himself, whose fortune was estimated at 60 million rubles in gold, according to Forbes magazine, was the owner of the largest capital at the beginning of the century. He was a banker, an industrialist, an entrepreneur, a man of action.

The monument was erected byinitiative of the townspeople who wished to perpetuate the monument to the great man.

One of the popular places for spending weekends and evenings among citizens and guests of the city is the Park of Culture and Leisure. Here you can ride attractions for children and adults, play slot machines, rollerblade or bike. The park is divided into two zones. Fans of unhurried walks in the fresh air make a promenade on the Quiet Alley, and those who prefer outdoor activities flock to the Entertainment Alley. The park has a summer stage, where concerts and cafes are regularly held.

Elektrostal attractions

Until 1999, there was no central museum among the attractions of Elektrostal in the Moscow Region. The expositions were exhibited in schools, the house of culture, in factory museums. The city was closed, so there was no large influx of tourists and visitors. The appearance of the historical and art museum made it possible for residents and guests of the city to learn a lot of useful information about their native land, the formation of the production process, and the difficult years of the war. The exposition consists of paintings by local artists, historical artifacts, household items, documents, books and much more. The collection is updated regularly. It also hosts outdoor exhibitions, which are always popular with the townspeople.

One of the main attractions of Elektrostal, the photo of which is available to almost every resident or visitor, is the Main Alley. On herpassers-by like to stroll along shady paths, townspeople rest by the fountain after a hard shift at the plant. Flower beds are the decoration of the alley. In 2006, a flower festival was held here for the first time, which has become traditional. Each enterprise of the city and private individuals give residents a real composition of fresh flowers, which pleases with bright colors all summer long. A riot of colors, aromas and a flight of fantasy reigns here. Walking through the park, you can see Snow White with a basket, a bright well, a multi-tiered cake made from fresh flowers, hearts of lovers or a fabulous house. It is almost impossible not to take a photo against the background of these compositions.

There is a cultural center in the city. It hosts performances by local creative teams and visiting stars, performances and circus performances.

In 1971, the ice palace "Crystal" was opened in the city. Almost immediately, a children's and youth hockey team was organized, which gained sports fame. This is the home sports arena for the Elektrostal hockey team. Matches of different levels are held on the ice.

There are sections for children who go in for hockey or figure skating. Citizens come here with their families to cheer for their favorite team or go ice skating.

Elektrostal is a city with a heroic past. During the war years, more than 12 thousand citizens came to the recruiting station and went to the front to defend their homeland. Almost 4 thousand of them did not return from the battle. To these heroesdedicated to the memorial complex with the inextinguishable Eternal Flame, opened in 1968

But the electricians took part in the war in Afghanistan and Chechnya. By decision of the city authorities, their memory is also immortalized in the memorial complex.

It has become a good tradition for newlyweds to lay flowers at this monument.

attractions of the city of Elektrostal

In 1999, a museum and exhibition complex was opened in the city, where, in addition to the exhibition hall, there are numerous circles for children, classes for young people, and a creative workshop. Various festivals, exhibitions, city holidays and other events are held within the walls and on the territory of the complex, which attract many spectators.

Elektrostal attractions

Listing the sights of Elektrostal, it is impossible not to mention the temples. There are several of them in the city: the church of St. John of Kronstadt, St. Andrew's Church, the hospital church of St. Panteleimon. Another new church is being built. In appearance, the temples look ancient, monumental, in the Novgorod style. But they were all built at the end of the 20th century.

Let there be no ancient artifacts among the sights of Elektrostal. But on the other hand, all of them are connected with the history of the city, with everyday work and military exploits of ordinary residents.
