April 21, 2022 at 1:38 pm

We are a group of seniors starting from Clark/Angeles City. I wanted to know the relative locations of (1) Puning Hot Springs (2) Where does the route of 4×4 jeep ride to Puning Hot Springs mentioned above start? (3) Where does the route of doing a hike to the Mt. Pinotubo crater lake start if we do a 4×4 drop off to the mid point? We have some who want to hike the 2 hour one-way hike, and those who would not like to do so due to age. Is it feasible to plan (a) Group 1 does Mt. Pinatubo short hike (4 hour two way) with 4×4 drop off and then go to Puning Hot Springs for a dip in the thermal pool and sand spa – how much comfortable time to provide for the tour?; and (b) Group 2 does 4×4 4×4 jeep ride to Puning Hot Springs and spends the day in Puning Hot Springs (thermal pool dips, spa, food and cultural show? We are visiting in November 2022. Thanks in advance.

June 10, 2022 at 10:43 pm

Hey Anand, they are in different locations/provinces. The jump-off to Puning Hot Springs is in Brgy. Sapang Bato, Angeles City, Pampanga while the jump-off to the Mt. Pinatubo Crater trek is in Capas, Tarlac. I suggest to do them in separate days.

If that’s the best of what Clark has to offer then it sounds like a really boring place…

lots of good food in Pampanga! I believe that it has also a lot of nice real estate away from the Metro.

February 28, 2024 at 1:25 pm

We are arriving in Cebu Mar 15 @ 1am (staying 2 days) to do canyoneering. I want to go to El Nido (doing tour A & C) and maybe glamping in Nacpan and Boracay. We are departing from CRK Mar 28 late night. In what order should we travel? Do we have time to fit another island? Blue water and some activities are our interests.

February 28, 2024 at 9:22 pm

I suggest you do the island hopping first in Palawan and then go to Boracay to do more relaxed activities. If you’re departing from Cebu Airport, you can go on a day or overnight trip to Panglao & Bohol.

11 Things to do in Clark, Philippines — A Quiet Adventure Gem 3.5hr from Singapore

clark philippines travel

PSA: New direct flights to Clark from Singapore starting from 16 June 2024!

Nabuclod Mountain Viewpoint - Philippines

If you’ve visited one of the stunning white-sand beaches and picturesque islands in the Philippines, chances are you got there by flying to Manila or Cebu first.

But here’s a hack… you can fly directly to another fantastic place — Clark. It’s a lesser-known side of the Philippines — think slow-paced city living with easy access to natural sceneries and fun outdoor activities.

P.S. Jetstar will be operating direct Singapore to Clark flights starting 16 June 2024 *, with tickets available for booking now!

Now that you know Clark exists, here are 11 of our favourite things to do:

Getting around Clark and surrounds

Clark Car Rental at Nabuclod - Getting around Clark Philippines

You’ll most likely be spending your time in Clark Freeport Zone , where the International Airport and most activities are located. At the moment, public transport in the area is quite limited.

So the best way to get around Clark is by renting a car! It was useful when we had to drive to a meet-up spot at 4AM, and it allowed us to visit more remote areas. Parking is easy in Clark, too. Here are your options:

Car rental (Most recommended) — Pick up and drop off your car when you land at the airport! Make sure to ask if they have RFID tags for North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) because you’ll most likely be accessing these roads, which have toll gates Grab: GrabCars are available, but the area it services is limited Taxis: The taxis in Clark are distinct due to their vibrant blue colour, but it’s hard to spot one in the wild. Best to call them in advance!

1) Trek Mount Pinatubo for a stunning crater lake view

Mount Pinatubo Peak - Day Trip Hikes from Manila

Mount Pinatubo is quickly becoming the locals’ favourite hiking spot for many reasons: beginner-friendly trails, scenic views, and a picturesque crater lake to top it off.

Mount Pinatubo 4x4 Jeep - Day Trip Hikes from Manila

Start with a bumpy 75-minute 4×4 jeep ride through rugged terrain and river crossings, while you admire panoramic mountain ranges. Head off right before sunrise for a chilly ride with a moody setting!

Mt. Pinatubo Crater Lake View - Hiking in the Philippines

Next, walk through volcanic ash fields and water streams until you reach the serene crater lake that Mount Pinatubo is famous for. No swimming, unfortunately 😢

*Pro-tip: Bring a windbreaker and face scarf as it gets super windy (especially at the peak) so dust and pebbles will hit you.

Cost: From ~₱3,000/pax (~S$72) for a join-in tour ; no hotel pick-up ( day tour from Manila with join-in option, also available) Tour timings: 5:30AM – 2PM Meet-up point: At the base of Mt Pinatubo — 70min drive from Clark International Airport via Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway. Make sure to exit at Concepcion. ( Google Maps )

Nabuclod Mountain View Deck - Getting around Clark Philippines

There’s actually a good view on both sides, and there are many view decks spread throughout to make sure you get a banger photo.

Nabuclod Mountain Views - Other Side - Getting around Clark Philippines

This viewpoint is not yet well-known to local tourists, so it’s a nice place if you’re looking for somewhere more peaceful to hang out.

9) Chill out at a nearby farm

Tibbys Farm - Clark Day Trip

Cafe in Tibby’s Farm. Photo credit: Vin Valencia via Facebook

The sheer number of hotels and casinos in the area may make you think a farm visit isn’t one of the best things to do in Clark.

But only 20 minutes away is the elusive Tibby’s Farm — a farm with an aesthetic glasshouse cafe inside. They promote sustainable agriculture, so you’ll be enjoying farm-to-table dining!

Workshops and farm tours are usually held on Saturdays, which cover a range of topics such as herbs, terrarium-making and pottery. Check their Facebook page for updates.

Pampanga Grapes Strawberry Mini-Farm - Things to Do in Clark Philippines

There’s also the Pampanga Grapes Strawberry Mini-Farm , tucked away in Floridablanca. It’s a pretty small farm mostly used for photoshoots, but it’s also great for a quick hangout.

Mimosa Plus Golf Course - Best Golf Course in Philippines

Photo credit: Mimosa Plus Golf Club via Facebook

Recognised as the country’s best golf course two years in a row, Mimosa Plus Golf Club is a great place to partake in Clark’s golfing culture.

Mimosa Plus Golf Course Scenic - Clark Day Trip

Aside from the scenic surroundings, the courses are meticulously designed to make sure both beginners and experts have a smooth play.

They’re also amping up their sustainability efforts , but the best part as a traveller is that you don’t need to pay for the membership just to have some tee time!

Cost: ~S$131/pax for 18-hole course ( contact operator for final price; book 15 days in advance) Opening hours: 6AM – 7PM How to get there: 8min drive from Clark International Airport ( Google Maps )

11) Bring the family to Dinosaurs Island

Dinosaurs Island - T-Rex - Family Friendly Parks near Manila

Jurassic Park geeks, Dinosaurs Island is a must-visit. But even if you’re not, you’ll soon find out why it’s a popular field trip destination for the local students: the small park has family-friendly activities like a “jungle safari ride” and walking trail featuring animatronic dinosaurs. There’s also the classic 7-D attraction where you’ll “experience” a dinosaur chase.

Insectlandia - Family Friendly Attractions from Manila

Then head over to the neighbouring Insectlandia , which has giant replicas of (you guessed it) insects. It’s pretty cool ’cause it’s kind of like an outdoor museum!

Cost: From ~S$17/pax Opening hours: 8AM – 5PM How to get there: 8min drive from Clark International Airport ( Google Maps )

Bonus: Eat local delicacies and go cafe-hopping

Food in Matam-ih - Things to Do in Clark Philippines

Clark is located in Pampanga, the region known as the Culinary Capital of the Philippines.

While there aren’t a lot of mum-and-pop restaurants in Clark itself, you can try out authentic Kapampangan cuisine at Matam-ih . They serve local favourites like kare-kare (peanut-based stew) and sisig (crispy pork on a hotplate).

Kakanin in Susies Cuisine - Singapore to Clark Flights

Susie’s Cuisine is also a famous store in Pampanga selling kakanin — rice delicacies and desserts.

Bloom and Brew Cafe - Cafe Hopping in the Philippines

Bloom & Brew Cafe

Cafe-hopping is a popular activity in Clark for families, with many spacious and yummy cafes to try like Here Cafe , Cafe Dia , and Cafe B.O.M . But my favourite is the Bloom & Brew Cafe in Air Force City Park for its cosy vibe!

Should I fly to Manila, Cebu, or Clark?

Mount Pinatubo Trail - Things to Do in Clark Philippines

Now that you know a little more about Clark, you might be wondering if it’s better to fly there instead of Manila and Cebu. In my opinion, it depends on what you’re looking for in a trip.

Manila is the best option if: (1) you’re a city or nightlife enthusiast, and (2) you’re planning to visit the remote parts of the Philippines. More flights go to and from Manila than the other two.

Girl-Floating-at-Inambakan-Falls-Things-to-do-in-Cebu-Philippines

Cebu is the best option if: (1) you are a fan of beaches and diving, and (2) you’re planning to hit nearby islands in the Visayas region (e.g. Bohol and Siquijor).

And Clark is the best option if you want a quieter trip with suburban vibes, sprinkled in with a little nature. If it gets too relaxed though, you can always drive your way to Manila — only 3 hours away.

CLARK AIRPORT GUIDE: How to Get There, What to Do Before Flight

CLARK AIRPORT GUIDE: How to Get There, What to Do Before Flight

By continuing to read this article, you agree to double check with the authorities or other concerned entities for the latest updates.

It’s not always that I fly out of Diosdado Macapagal International Airport , more popularly known as Clark Airport (CRK) . Living in Metro Manila, I still prefer flights that take off and land at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) because it is obviously more convenient to me. The air traffic congestion problem in Manila, however, pushed many airlines (PAL, Cebu Pacific Air, AirAsia, and more) to fly to and from Clark, making this Central Luzon gateway probably the fastest growing airport in the country.

WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS GUIDE?

HOW TO GET TO CLARK AIRPORT

Clark Airport is located two to three hours from Manila, depending on which part of the city you’re coming from. If you’re not very lucky, traffic can make the travel time even longer. Thus, to be on the safe side, I usually leave Manila six hours before my flight schedule — that gives me a four-hour allowance on the road and two hours to get through all the airport processes.

For example, if my flight is scheduled at 12 noon, I am already at the bus terminal at around 6am. I know that may be too much time but you know what they say, better safe than sorry. After all, it gives me ample time to come up with a Plan B should something unfortunate happen like the bus breaking down at the expressway or something.

Here are the timetables. We also added the schedule of P2P buses from BAGUIO, OLONGAPO, and DAGUPAN.

NAIA TO CLARK AIRPORT SCHEDULE

TRINOMA TO CLARK AIRPORT SCHEDULE

What To Do Before an International Flight at Clark

If you’ve flown to a foreign destination before from NAIA, then you won’t have any problem going through the check-in process at Clark. It’s almost exactly the same. If anything, it’s much easier because the counters lie close to one another.

  • Accomplish your e-Travel form. Don’t forget to save or “screencap” your QR code.
  • Check in ! Present your passport to the check-in agent and drop your bags for check in. The agent will give you your boarding pass.
  • Pay the travel tax and terminal fee. Travel tax is P1,620 per person for economy class. Terminal fee is P600 per person. They will give you a receipt.
  • Proceed to Immigration counters. Line up and clear Immigration check.
  • Final security check.  Remove all gadgets and metal items (including belts and coins) from your body. Remove your shoes, too.

After the final security check, head to the Pre-Departure Area. Check your boarding pass to see what gate you should go to. All you need to do now is wait for the boarding call.

Oh by the way, there is a Foreign Exchange (FOREX) Counter at the Check-in Hall. If you want to exchange currencies before your flight, do so before approaching the Immigration Booth. (There’s no turning back once you made it through. Trust me; I tried. Haha.)

There you have it! Have a safe journey!

Things to Bring

Like I said on this post , I always have a checklist of items I MUST NOT forget when I travel abroad. Here it is:

  • Passport  – Do not ever, ever forget your passport.
  • Printed Flight Itinerary/Tickets  – Make sure you print out the tickets. When I fly domestic, I usually just show the check-in agent the tickets on my phone. They accept it. But for international flights, you will be showing your tickets too many times (check-in counter, travel tax counter, departure fee counter, immigration, etc) that it would be impractical and ridiculously annoying to whip out your phone every step of the way. A printed ticket will make it a lot easier for you and the people who will check it. Besides, a piece of paper does not need to be charged.
  • Valid IDs  – Not really that important because the passport is considered a valid ID. But to be safe, I always bring other IDs, just in case I was invited by Immigration Officers for a short “talk.”
  • DSWD Clearance  – Only when I’m traveling with my nephew or niece and their parents are not joining the trip.
  • Credit card  – Some airlines require a copy of the credit card used when the tickets are booked online. You might also need it as a safety net in case you run short of cash. Some hotels also ask for credit card for deposit.
  • Travel Itinerary  – Make a clear plan of what you want to do and write them down. In case the Immigration Officers pick you for a random check, a printed itinerary will help convince them that you will really go to your destination to tour and nothing else.
  • Hotel address and contact number  – You will need it. If you’re traveling with a kid or someone who doesn’t speak English (or the language spoken in the country you’re visiting), give them the address and contact number of the place you are staying in. In case they get lost, it will be easier for them to find their way to you. You will also need the hotel address when filling out immigration forms.
  • A Pen  – Yes, the humble pen is important. You will be accomplishing forms.

Our flight to HK via AirAsia is 7:40AM. Do you know any bus who leaves MNL as early as 2:30AM? Thanks! :)

The Poor Traveler

Aaw, I don’t. Sorry. :(

superemang

Since I live in Northern part of the metro, Clark is becoming very attractive to me. I tried it last month when we went to Malaysia. The lines are shorter, the wait for take-off are shorter, not as crowded — generally less chaotic than NAIA. The only downside is the NLEX toll fees. :p

Haha, yes, shorter queues and waiting time. Most flights are on time, too. But the immigration officers are stricter, i noticed.

Marhammad

Can I ask how many hours does I wait from Clark to Macau? And any idea how to go from Macau Airport to doha Qatar? Pls responds

Flights to Singapore via air asia is usually early morning. since the last bus from pasay philtranco leaves at 8PM. it means we will be staying overnite in DMIA? is that how you do it? or we need to book (Addl cost) in a nearest hotel?

Hi Povillo! I’ve never flown to Singapore from Clark airport but yes, that would be the best option if you have an AirAsia SG flight. But maybe there are new bus schedules from Trinoma…

Hi dee. When do u plan do travel in HK?

Ouija

Hi, this is the first time I will travel Hk from Manila with my kids and my mom, can I pay the travel tax and terminal fe with my credit card? Thanks for your help.

Hi. When do you plan to go HK coz i’ll be travelling there next week or perhaps you already did.

Ate Leon

Hello, I would like to go to Hongkong from Clark Airport because prices are really cheapest on the date I want if I leave from Clark airport than if I leave from Ninoy airport. Therefore I have several questions: 1/ Do you know if it is possible to go to Clark from other cities than Manila (I am volunteering in an NGO, located in Angat, Bulacan; it is at the North of Manila between Metro Manila and Clark on the map, so it could be clever to go directly from there)

2/ How much the bus from Metro Manila costs ? 2/ What is this travel tax and terminal fee ? I went to Bangkok last month and I did not have to pay for a travel tax (it’s 1620php !!)

Thanks for your help!

MaxYuri

Navigator

What to do before the flight is not at all I expect to read. Wasted my time. Those things you mentioned are the standard protocol prior to check in. I was expecting you’ll guide us to spend time if we have the luxury to spend more time and have fun instead of just sit and wait stuff. But thanks anyway. I appreciate your effort but you can rename that “What to do segment”

Yosh Dimen

Hi Navigator, this post is mainly for those traveling for the first time and flying from Clark.

Do you have any suggestion for the new title of that segment?

JONG CHUA

(PLEASE BEAR WITH MY CAPS LOCK)

I WILL BE GOING TO SANTA CLARA SANTA MARIA BULACAN. MY FLIGHT SCHEDULE IS MAY 30 FROM CEBU TO CLARK. WHAT BUS I WILL RIDE THAT WILL PASS BY SANTA CLARA SANTA MARIA BULACAN? PLEASE HELP. THANKS

The Clark Special Economic Zone encompasses the New Clark City located in Capas, Tarlac. This is a development managed by the Bases Conversion and Development Authority.

Apart from being a center for aviation and business, Clark is also a destination. With educational, entertainment, and recreational establishments, Clark attracts many tourists as well.

It is important to note that the Philippines has a dry and wet season. The dry period is usually from November to June with April and May as the peak of summer. The rainy season is from July to October.

If you are interested in festivals and events, you can also take note of some of these celebrations. However, there may be huge crowds during these times.

  • February: Nuestra Señora de la Divina Gracia, Caragan Festival (both in Mabalacat)
  • April: Sisig Festival (Angeles City)
  • September: San Lorenzo Ruiz Feast (Mabalacat)
  • October: Fiestang Kuliat (Angeles City)

Practical Travel Tips

  • Always check for updates. Some adjustments have to be taken for establishments and attractions to operate during the new normal. Don’t forget to contact or visit the official websites or Facebook pages of the attractions and activities for announcements and updates before going.
  • Leave no trace behind. Make sure to take everything that you brought with you when you leave a place and dispose of your trash properly.
  • Bring sun protection. The sun can be unforgiving sometimes, especially in summer. Don’t forget to bring a hat/cap and sunglasses or apply sunscreen.
  • Practice sustainable and responsible tourism. Bring your own reusable water bottle and dry bags or eco bags to avoid buying plastic bottled drinks and using plastic bags. Support the local community by buying their products.
  • Learn some Kapampangan phrases. Kapampangans can understand and speak Tagalog, but they will surely appreciate your effort when you learn simple Kapampangan phrases like “ali” (no), ‘wa” (yes), and “dakal a salamat” (thank you very much).
  • Follow the town’s rules and regulations. Make sure you know the travel safety protocols and requirements and follow them.

Philippines wants U.S. and Japan to take over rail deal eyed by China

Delfin Lorenzana

A Philippine freight railway project may be built with the support of the U.S. and Japan, an official in charge of it said, as Manila seeks alternative financing deals after dropping funding talks with China.

"Hopefully they take it and invest here,” Delfin Lorenzana, who chairs the Bases Conversion and Development Authority, said in a interview on Friday, referring to the U.S. and Japan. The agency oversees the development of former military bases.

The Philippines said last year that it would no longer pursue Chinese loans to fund three projects, including the 71-kilometer Subic-Clark railway, amid lack of progress from the Chinese side. Manila’s move came amid souring ties between the Philippines and China over competing maritime claims in the South China Sea.

U.S. President Joe Biden, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. launched the Luzon Economic Corridor during their April 11 meeting and a trilateral event to promote investment in the project is being planned at the U.S.-led Indo-Pacific Business Forum in Manila in May.

The Philippines said it hopes to generate around $100 billion in investments in the next five to 10 years following the Washington summit.

The project aims to boost connectivity between Subic Bay and Clark, Manila, and Batangas province in the country’s main Luzon island and accelerate investments in infrastructure projects, including rail, ports, clean energy, semiconductor supply chains and agribusiness.

"We have not abandoned the Subic-Clark railway project,” Lorenzana said. A former defense secretary, Lorenzana said he’s "more comfortable” if the U.S. and Japan would take over the project.

"If not them, maybe South Korea, or other countries that are friendly to us,” he said. The government is also considering seeking funding from the World Bank and Asian Development Bank, he added.

Lorenzana said BCDA projects that may be included in the Luzon Economic Corridor include the construction of Clark International Airport’s second runway, seen to cost around $174 million and a 64-hectare Clark National Food Terminal hub, which seeks to make the Southeast Asian nation a leading agricultural resource hub in the region. The food terminal is estimated to cost $152 million.

Subic and Clark are "very strategic” locations that can host industries from logistics to manufacturing, he said.

"Subic is one of the few deep-water ports that can accommodate any size of vessel and it’s safe from typhoon while Clark has a huge space,” Lorenzana said. "And we have the ready manpower that can be trained to do the job.”
