Jeep Vehicles w/ Adaptive Cruise Control (8 Popular Models)

Adaptive cruise control is increasingly common in many mainstream vehicles, including Jeeps.

The following Jeep SUVs and trucks have adaptive cruise control or conventional cruise control system.

Check the corresponding tables to see the relevant model years when the system became available.

cruise control jeep compass 2014

Adaptive Cruise Control vs. Cruise Control

The more-basic cruise control in older vehicles helps maintain a steady cruising speed for a relaxing long-distance drive.

The more sophisticated adaptive cruise control (ACC) enhances the conventional cruise control system by altering the vehicle’s speed to match the car ahead subject to the driver’s set speed, which is excellent for highway cruising and avoiding collisions.

Newer Jeeps have the Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go system, adjusting the vehicle’s speed to maintain a pre-selected distance from the car ahead.

While Jeep makes among the most capable off-road SUVs with cruise control for on-road cruising, the following alternatives may work better if you want a truck instead:

  • Ford SUVs and trucks with cruise control .
  • Chevy SUVs and trucks with cruise control .
  • GMC SUVs and trucks with cruise control .
  • Ram trucks with cruise control .

Alternatively, some of these mainstream automakers also produce SUVs, although with comparatively moderate off-road capabilities:

  • Honda SUVs with ACC .
  • Toyota vehicles with ACC .
  • Hyundai vehicles with ACC .
  • Kia vehicles with ACC .
  • Volkswagen vehicles with ACC .

Jeep SUVs with Adaptive Cruise Control

#1 jeep renegade.

The Renegade is a subcompact and Jeep’s smallest SUV; it isn’t the cheapest, but it’s one of the most adventure-ready in the class.

Since its 2015 debut, the Jeep Renegade has had cruise control only in the upper trims.

The cruise control system became standard in the Jeep Renegade from 2019 and beyond, including the Trailhawk model.

#2 Jeep Compass

Although it’s still a subcompact SUV, the Compass is slightly larger than the Renegade.

Since 2021, Jeep Compass has had adaptive cruise control in the pricier trims and basic cruise control in the less expensive ones.

Jeep Compass models from 2011 to 2020 had standard cruise control, while older ones only had the system in the higher trim levels.

#3 Jeep Cherokee

This small SUV’s history has two halves, with 2014 seeing its return after over a decade of absence.

Newer Jeep Cherokees from 2022 onwards have had adaptive cruise control in the higher trims and conventional cruise control in the lower ones.

From 2014 to 2021, all Jeep Cherokee models had cruise control.

#4 Jeep Wrangler

This small SUV had earned a reputation as the most iconic off-road warrior with superior capability on rugged terrains.

Since 2021, the Jeep Wrangler has had adaptive cruise control in the Rubicon 392 and Unlimited Rubicon 392, depending on the model year; other trims had conventional cruise control, the Sport trim included.

Every Jeep Wrangler from 2011 to 2020 had standard cruise control, while models from 2007 to 2010 only had the system in the costlier trims.

#5 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The midsize two-row Jeep Grand Cherokee had adaptive cruise control in the upper trims from 2012 until 2022 when the system became standard.

Older Grand Cherokee models from 2001 to 2011 had standard cruise control.

#6 Jeep Wagoneer

Since Jeep introduced the full-size three-row Wagoneer in 2022, the SUV has had adaptive cruise control in its higher trims and basic cruise control in the lower ones.

#7 Jeep Grand Wagoneer

Unlike the regular Wagoneer, the more upscale Jeep Grand Wagoneer models have adaptive cruise control as a standard provision.

Jeep Truck with Adaptive Cruise Control

#8 jeep gladiator.

The Jeep Gladiator is the only convertible pickup truck in the midsize class. It beat competitors such as the Honda Ridgeline and Toyota Tacoma – both have adaptive cruise control – with greater off-road prowess.

All Jeep Gladiator models have cruise control as standard.

Unfortunately, no Jeep Gladiator has the more-sophisticated adaptive cruise control system.

Thank you all for figuring out how to turn it on!! I ordered my Speed Control Switch and I will install it next week. Hopefully it goes as smooth as described here.

  • New Transfer Case Switch 5XF15LXHAA or 5XF15LXHAB (I got mine on aliexpress for 38$ and it works fine)
  • 9 speed automatic transmission
  • AlfaOBD and adapter cables (I use an OBDLink EX and an extra "grey" adapter to complete proxy alignment)
  • Axle ratio of 4334 (You can check your axle ratio with AlfaOBD in the Body Computer in the status/faults tab and click on "system status" next view log and search for Axle ratio)
  • Use a plastic prying tool or credit card to undo the clips of the shiny black frame (I started at the top right corner and worked my way down and then to the other side)
  • Put the shifter in neutral so you can lift the shiny black plastic a little more to access the metal clips holding the Transfer Case Switch in place.
  • Undo the 2 left metal clips first and then the bottom one, it should come out after that with some wiggling.
  • Disconnect it and put the new one in and just push everyting back into place.
  • Select Body Computer Delphi/Marelli and connect
  • Go to Active Diagnostic tab
  • Choose Car Configuration Change
  • Find Terrain selector modes and set it to 5 modes
  • Find 4 Wheel Drive Low Button and set it to present
  • Find Hill descent control and set it to present
  • After that go to PROXY alignment and run it
  • Turn car off and let it sit for a few minutes

Laurens said: It seems to be working. When I push 4wd low, it turns FCW and ESC off so it definitely does something. When I go to rock, it is locked in second gear and you can't change it. However I expected it to lock in first gear in rock mode because that is what you read everywhere. I made a new thread to ask trailhawk owners about this behaviour because nobody seems to know what 4wd low exactly does. I can get it to lock in first gear by going to mud mode and putting the shifter to manual shifting (mud starts in first gear) and then change to rock mode with the shifter still in manual. When I do it like this it is locked in first gear and putting it back to automatic shifting still keeps it in first gear. Click to expand...

Thats great development.....if rock mode works and hill decend works. thats a great achievement. The 4 Low thing i though was just locking into 1st gear....

Cruise Control problems of the 2014 Jeep Compass

Two problems related to cruise control have been reported for the 2014 Jeep Compass. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Cruise Control problem

Cruise control did not disengage in a dangerous situation. Cruise control was on going down I-20 interstate near shrevport louisana,,, coming around a curve I noticed all traffic had stopped, both lanes due to some type construction and as I tried to brake,,,the cruise control would not disengage with my emergency braking ,,,I had to go into the side ditch and finally put the transmission in neutral to stop ! extremely dangerous in which myself and wife could have been easily killed. ! later,on checking the internet to see if this was a condition other Jeep Compass owners had had,,,,I found 'recalls' on other Jeep products ' notifying other Jeep owners of Jeep cherokee, Jeep grand cherokee, and Jeep wranglers' specifically with problems of Jeep cruise controls not disengaging' ,,,,but no recalls on Jeep Compass',,,, which I had just had that same extremely dangerous situation happen ! ( I was going highway speed at 70 mph when I hit my brakes trying to stop in an emergency situation and I could not overcome the stuck cruise control to stop and had to take evasive action leaving the highway to the ditch at 70 mph and still wouldn't stop till I placed the auto in neutral and allowed me to stop ).

2 Cruise Control problem

Tl- the contact owns a 2014 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while traveling approximately 70 mph with the cruise control activated the driver attempted to stop the vehicle by pressing the brake pedal but the cruise control did not deactivate causing the vehicle to nearly crash into several stationary vehicles ahead. The drive switched the transmission to the neutral position to stop the vehicle. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer was not notified. The failure mileage was 60,000. Jft.

Full Edmunds Review: 2014 Jeep Compass SUV

The 2014 Jeep Compass receives a newly optional six-speed automatic transmission that replaces the CVT in most models. There's also a minor styling update inside and out, along with a standard 6.5-inch touchscreen audio interface and a rearview camera for the Limited trim. Front-seat side airbags are now standard across the lineup.

Edmunds says

Although this year's new six-speed automatic transmission improves the driving experience, the 2014 Jeep Compass still falls behind most other small crossovers in performance, fuel economy and overall refinement.

Vehicle overview

Compact crossovers have to cover a lot of ground. They need to be able to carry your mountain bike at a moment's notice. They need to offer enough all-terrain capability to get you to work during a snowstorm. They need to be roomy and comfortable for you and a couple of kids. They need to offer a semblance of style along with a decent number of tech features. Yet for all that, we're not willing to pay that much for them. The 2014 Jeep Compass is an example of a budget crossover that tries to check every box while keeping the bottom line low.

First off, it's a Jeep , and Jeeps are known for off-road supremacy. The Compass does have quite a bit more all-terrain capability than most other compact crossover SUVs, but that only comes about when you add some extra-cost features. And even if so equipped, it's a good bet you'll be calling your friend with a Wrangler to pull you out of a ditch if you attempt anything really challenging. And so like most other small crossovers, the Jeep Compass is mainly intended to give you enough traction and ground clearance to get to work after a snowstorm.

This year's new six-speed automatic transmission is a welcome replacement for last year's continuously variable transmission (CVT) on most versions of the Jeep Compass. When paired with the 2.4-liter engine, it improves both acceleration and fuel economy. That said, the 2014 Compass still feels rather slow in normal driving, and gas mileage remains below average with the new automatic transmission. Moreover, persistent engine drone and tire noise make for a noisy cabin, and the Jeep rides harshly over bumps and ruts.

With so many capable rivals in this class, it's certainly worthwhile to explore all your options. If enhanced off-road capabilities in a small crossover are a must-have, we'd suggest taking a look at the similarly priced 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek . For the majority of crossover SUV owners who rarely, if ever, leave the pavement, the 2014 Ford Escape , 2014 Honda CR-V and 2014 Mazda CX-5 are some of the best choices in this class. If up-front cost is your main concern, the 2014 Nissan Rogue Select (the renamed old-generation version of the Rogue) has a low starting price like the 2014 Jeep Compass but it offers a much better overall package.

2014 Jeep Compass models

A five-passenger small crossover SUV, the 2014 Jeep Compass is available in three trim levels: Sport, Latitude and Limited.

Standard features for the Sport include 16-inch alloy wheels (17-inch wheels if optioned with the larger 2.4-liter engine), foglights, roof rails, air-conditioning, cruise control, 60/40 split-folding rear seats, a tilt-only steering wheel, a 115-volt household power outlet and a four-speaker sound system with a CD player and an auxiliary audio jack. The optional Power Value Group adds full power accessories, heated mirrors, keyless entry and additional body-color exterior pieces. The Altitude Edition package adds 18-inch alloy wheels, a body-color rear bumper, mesh cloth seat upholstery, and heated front seats.

The Latitude gets the above features as standard (with smaller 16-inch wheels for front-wheel-drive and 17s for all-wheel drive) and adds chrome exterior and interior trim, a height-adjustable driver seat, a fold-flat front passenger seat and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls. For the Latitude, the optional High Altitude Edition package adds 18-inch wheels, leather upholstery, a six-way power driver seat (plus manual lumbar adjustment) and a sunroof.

The range-topping Limited includes the High Altitude equipment along with different 18-inch wheels, automatic climate control, a driver information display, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a rearview camera, a 6.5-inch touchscreen display, and HD and satellite radio. The touchscreen interface is optional on the Latitude and includes an onboard hard drive with 28GB of digital music storage; on the Limited, this music server is combined with an optional navigation system.

The Freedom Drive II Off-Road group can be added to all four-wheel-drive trims. It includes 17-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, tow hooks, an off-road driving mode, an engine oil cooler, underbody skid plates, a full-size spare tire, hill-descent control, hill-start assist and a height-adjustable driver seat for the Sport trim.

The Latitude and Limited trims are eligible for the Security and Cargo Convenience group. On the Latitude this adds the auto-dimming rearview mirror, a security alarm and the driver information display. The Limited's version of this option group also includes remote start, a USB input and Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity. Jeep also offers Bluetooth, the USB port and satellite radio bundled as a separate option for all trim levels.

Also offered on the top trims is the Sun and Sound group (a sunroof, an upgraded nine-speaker Boston Acoustics sound system , two flip-down tailgate speakers and satellite radio for the Latitude trim) and the Trailer Tow Prep group (oil cooler, trailer tow wiring harness and full-size spare).

Performance & mpg

On the front-wheel-drive Sport and Latitude trim levels, the 2014 Jeep Compass is outfitted with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 158 horsepower and 141 pound-feet of torque. From here, three transmissions are available. A five-speed manual transmission is standard for the Sport, while a six-speed automatic or a CVT are optional. The Latitude has the six-speed automatic as standard. The CVT is a required option on Sport and Latitude models with the Altitude and High Altitude packages.

The EPA estimates fuel economy at 26 mpg combined (23 mpg city/30 mpg highway) for a front-wheel-drive Compass with the 2.0-liter engine and a five-speed manual. With the six-speed automatic, mileage falls to 24 mpg combined (21 mpg city/28 mpg highway), while the CVT version rates 24 mpg combined (22 mpg city/27 mpg highway).

Optional on the front-wheel-drive Sport and Latitude is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that produces 172 hp and 165 lb-ft of torque. This engine is standard on all-wheel-drive models (which Jeep calls four-wheel drive) and all Compass Limited models.

Equipped with the 2.4-liter engine and the five-speed manual, the front-drive Compass is rated at 25 mpg combined (23 mpg city/28 mpg highway). Add the six-speed automatic and you're looking at 24 mpg combined (21 mpg city/28 mpg highway). With four-wheel drive and the 2.4-liter engine, the 2014 Compass is rated at 25 mpg combined (23 mpg city/28 mpg highway) with the manual and 23 combined (21/27) with the six-speed automatic.

The optional Freedom Drive II Group provides a more serious 4WD system with low-range gearing and hill-descent control, but requires that you also select the 2.4-liter engine and CVT. With the CVT, fuel economy is quite poor at 21 mpg combined (20 mpg city/23 mpg highway).

In Edmunds testing, an all-wheel-drive 2014 Jeep Compass with the 2.4-liter engine and six-speed automatic transmission went from zero to 60 mph in 9.4 seconds, which is an average time for this class.

Standard safety features for all 2014 Jeep Compass models include antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control, front-seat side airbags and side curtain airbags. A rearview camera is included with the Limited trim and available on others. The Freedom Drive II Off-Road group adds hill-descent and hill-start control.

In Edmunds brake testing, the Compass came to a stop from 60 mph in 121 feet, which is average for this class of vehicle.

In government crash testing, the 2014 Jeep Compass received four out of a possible five stars for overall crash protection, with three stars for frontal crash protection and five stars for side crash protection.

Regardless of which engine you choose, the Compass is not especially quick or invigorating to drive. Unquestionably, the new six-speed automatic transmission improves performance on models with the 2.4-liter engine. Even so, 2.4 versions of the 2014 Jeep Compass feel rather underpowered in normal driving in spite of a class-average 0-60-mph time. The engine makes its best power at higher revs, so the automatic transmission's frequent (and often slow) shifts can be bothersome when you're passing at highway speeds or merely trying to maintain speed on uphill grades. Equipping the Compass with the CVT results in downright sluggish acceleration and forces you to plan well ahead for passing maneuvers.

Making matters worse is a persistent drone from the 2.4-liter engine, regardless of the transmission. It escalates to a racket under hard acceleration, and combined with the Jeep's excessive wind and tire noise, you'll be reaching for the radio volume knob to drown it all out. Ride quality is another weak spot, as the Jeep's suspension struggles to cope with bumps and ruts, resulting in a harsh, bouncy ride over most pavement. This lack of composure also detracts from the crossover's handling abilities when you're going around turns.

Jeep has upgraded the interior materials in the Compass for the 2014 model year, and this is especially noticeable in loaded Latitude and Limited models, which have attractive stitching and leather work. However, there are still plenty of hard plastic surfaces, and features like Bluetooth and a USB input, which come standard on most rivals, remain optional even on the upper trim levels.

Although the seatback cushions might be a little narrow for larger adults, the front seats are comfortable and offer adequate support for longer drives. The rear seat is also well cushioned, but legroom is tight for this class.

The Compass does sport some clever features, such as a cooled glovebox, a rechargeable LED cargo light that pops out for use as a flashlight, and optional speakers that flip down and out from the raised liftgate to enhance outdoor listening. At 62.7 cubic feet, the Compass' maximum cargo capacity is respectable. It's considerably more than the Subaru XV Crosstrek's 51.9 cubic feet and slightly less than the Escape's 66.3 cubes.

Entry-level Jeep Compass SUV sets high bar on comfort, price

T he Jeep Compass sits at the low end of the brand’s 4x4 hierarchy. It’s smaller than the Cherokee and the smallest vehicle in the lineup now that the boxy Renegade's production life ended in 2023.

This compact SUV is the younger sibling tagging along with the begrudging older kids under a threatening request by a parent. It shares a family resemblance, but this is not the first Jeep you think of when picturing a 4x4 crawling over the canyons in Moab, Utah, or idling in line to pay the entry fee at Big Bend National Park with a week’s worth of provisions strapped on the roof rack.

While the top-tier Trailhawk model gives the Compass a capable set of rubber hiking shoes and offers all-wheel-drive standard across the lineup, it looks and feels more at home in the concrete jungle than an actual jungle. Which is precisely what I did during my weeklong road test in a two-tone Redline Pearl and Gloss black version. My heart rate stayed level throughout the experience, with no spikes in adrenaline or hardened mud on its fenders. But even though it doesn’t share the perfectly trimmed five o’clock shadow and survival kit reputation of its larger 4x4 siblings, the Compass provides one critical personality trait you want in a daily driver — comfort.

HIGH-END JEEP: Grand Wagoneer Series III premium SUV

Jeep made some alterations to the Compass trim level lineup for 2024. The model shown is a 2023 model year  Compass Latitude , a midrange trim level discontinued for 2024. There is now a choice of the entry-level Sport, the Latitude and Latitude Lux, followed by the well-optioned Limited and rugged-equipped Trailhawk. They all use the same 2.0L turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine and eight-speed automatic transmission to propel the standard all-wheel-drive system, as confirmed by a “4x4” badge on its liftgate.

Like eating a grand slam at Denny’s, the Jeep Compass’ performance is neither terrible nor fantastic. The engine’s 200 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque are satisfactory for moving the SUV from zero to 60 in under eight seconds and getting out of the slow lane when necessary. Fuel economy is rated at 24 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway, for an average of 27 mpg. It offers a maximum towing capacity of 2,000 pounds.

Driving characteristics make it feel like you’re driving a compact sedan with a tall seat. The doughnut-thick steering wheel is light, and the throttle response is vague but attentive to your input. The Jeep Compass is a straight B student not looking for extra credit.

Where it earns praise is its generously appointed cloth and vinyl seats that let you sink into them like the massaging chairs at the local mall. Higher trim levels offer heated front seats with eight-way power adjusting control and two-way adjustable lumbar to irritate you if someone else messes with your setting. The rear cargo space is also great, with a wide liftgate opening and a flat floor to transport large-breed dogs or pack up a college dorm room.

The 10.1-inch touchscreen is one of the best sizes I’ve dealt with in modern vehicles. It is large enough to display Apple CarPlay or Android Auto features but not so much that it pulls your eyes like pennies to a magnet while driving. I commend Jeep for providing a “Screen Off” button on their vehicles so you can turn off the large screen whenever you want. Safety is also a plus, as the Compass features side-mounted airbags for the front seats and side curtain airbags for front and rear passengers. That's in addition to a host of standard safety driver aids such as blind spot monitoring, forward collision warning, drowsy driver detection, pedestrian emergency braking and automatic headlights.

The foremost criticism of the Jeep Compass is price, which can reach above $40,000. The Compass Altitude had a starting price of $32,670 and finished at $41,905. The spike in MSRP came from adding options such as the Driver Assistance Group ($2,475), which adds wireless charging and 360 view backup camera, the Customer Preferred Package ($1,895) for the two-tone paint scheme, gloss black badging and 18-inch gloss black aluminum wheels, with an extra $595 for the Redline Pearl color.

In the cutthroat crossover SUV market, the Jeep Compass only makes sense below the $40K mark.
