How our discounts work

On all cruises we set aside a number of cabins within each level at a discounted fare, with the highest discount of 35% for ocean cruises and 25% for river cruises available on selected levels. These cabins are sold on a first come, first served basis. As cabins are sold, the discount begins to reduce, and continues to reduce until those selected cabins are sold.

This means that the earlier you book, the higher the chance of securing a greater discount. Our price panels clearly show the full cruise price, along with the current discount fare.

Please note: During busy periods for holiday bookings, the early booking discount can reduce rapidly. We recommend that you book early to benefit from the best booking discounts and to secure your preferred cabin.

When promoting new cruises for the first time, we contact customers on our Advanced Registration list first, allowing then to secure the cabin of their choice and benefit from the best savings. Our brochures are then sent out to loyalty club members first, followed by past cruise goers and then everyone else.

Follow in the footsteps of the Vikings to the capital of Reykjavik, Iceland’s oldest permanent settlement and gateway to the famous Blue Lagoon. Explore Grundafjördur, on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, and cruise through the Vestmannaeyjar volcanic chicane to the tiny island of Heimaey, where the volcanic cone of Eldfell dominates the landscape.

An archipelago of mostly flat, green-topped islands ringed with red sandstone cliffs and sandy beaches, the Orkneys lie due north of John O’ Groats. Although remote, these rugged and unspoilt islands offer a rich history and are home to the oldest and best-preserved Neolithic site in Europe, Skara Brae. Kirkwall is the largest town and capital, where you can visit the medieval St Magnus Cathedral or delve into the islands’ Viking heritage.

Step back 5000 years and discover Skara Brae, the Neolithic settlement unearthed by a storm in 1850 that pre-dates Stonehenge and the Pyramids.

Day 4 25th June

Day 5 26th june, seydisfjördur, iceland.

Seydisfjördur, Iceland

Cruise Seydisfjördur, hemmed in by mountains, and visit the eponymous town at its head. It is characterised by multicoloured wooden houses imported from Norway between 1895 and 1922. Despite its remote location, Seydisfjördur played a pivotal role in developing Iceland’s communications with the outside world, as highlighted at the old Telegraph Station.

Walking trails of varying degree lead through the surrounding natural scenery to such sights as Hengifoss Waterfall and the Tvísöngur Sound Sculpture.

Discover the dramatic mountain scenery surrounding Seydisfjördur on a panoramic drive or experience the serenity of Seydisfjördur Fjord on a visit to the 3,089-hectare Skalanes Nature Reserve set at its mouth. You may see colonies of birds and reindeer roaming across the Icelandic wilderness.

Day 6 27th June

Set on Iceland’s longest fjord, Eyjafjordur, the self-titled ‘Capital of the North’ was settled by Vikings in the 9th century. Akureyri has since developed into Iceland’s most populous town outside of Reykjavik. Although just 100 miles south of the Arctic Circle, it is warmed by the Gulf Stream, lending it a relatively moderate climate.

This is evident in the Botanic Gardens and the two-month-long annual Arts and Culture Festival’s outdoor summer events. From Akureyri, you can discover Godafoss Waterfall on an included excursion.

Day 7 28th June

Isafjördur, iceland.

Dwarfed by stark mountains on either side, the small town of Isafjördur is tucked away on an arm of the fjord of the same name. It boasts the largest harbour in Iceland’s Westfjord region, which saw it thrive as a trading hub from the 16th to 19th centuries. Wooden 18th-century merchant houses still stand along the harbourfront, including the oldest in Iceland, which now houses a folk museum.

Another historic home is now the Maritime Museum, which further attests to Isafjördur’s close ties to the sea. An included panoramic excursion provides a great introduction to this compact town. Boat trips to the nearby island of Vigur are popular with birdwatchers as it has an array of birdlife.

Day 8 29th June

Reykjavik, or ‘Smoky Bay’, was named after the area’s numerous hot springs by its Viking founder,Ingólfur Arnason, in AD 874. Although Iceland’s oldest permanent settlement and capital, it retains a friendly small-town atmosphere. Glimpse Old Reykjavik’s colourful houses capped by corrugated roofs and the imposing Hallgrimskirkja church on an included panoramic excursion.

The city’s historic heart is full of boutiques, numerous museums and art galleries. Excavations have revealed many Viking artefacts in this area around city-centre Lake Tjörnin – known locally as The Pond. Find out more about the city’s development at the National Museum and Saga Museum or visit the famous Blue Lagoon.

Tour this quirky capital on a panoramic drive, highlighting the striking Hallgrimskirkja church built out of concrete.

The Blue Lagoon is one of Iceland’s most famous sites, where natural geothermal energy heats the artificial lagoon. The mineral-rich waters make it a favourite spot for a rejuvenating dip. Alternatively, join a full-day visit to a trio of natural wonders: Thingvellir National Park, Geysir Strokkur and Gullfoss Waterfall.

Grundafjördur ⚓, Iceland

The small fishing town of Grundafjordur rests in the shadow of Kirkjufell, a distinctive wedge-shaped mountain. Set on the north side of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, or ‘Snow Mount’s Peninsula’, a region of immense natural wonder. Snæfellsjökull, a stratovolcano capped by a glacier, left such a lasting impression on Jules Verne that the novelist used it as a setting in his famous novel, ‘Journey to the Centre of the Earth’.

In the summertime, a boat trip to Melrakkaey Island will reveal a large colony of Atlantic puffins.

Heimaey ⚓, iceland..

Heimaey ⚓, Iceland

Cruise through the Vestmannaeyjar volcanic chicane to reach Heimaey, six miles from the mainland and the only inhabited island in the archipelago. The other 14 islands and skerries in the reserve are home to cormorants and millions of puffins in the summertime.

In 1973, a volcanic eruption further shaped the island, giving rise to Eldfell, a volcanic cone that dominates the landscape. The main town and harbour survived thanks to the outstanding efforts of the townsfolk. Following modern-day excavations, a new museum opened in 2014 to tell the island’s story.

What should I pack for a cruise to Iceland?

There are a few items you'll be thankful you packed for your Iceland trip. Though "ice" is in its name, Iceland experiences a lot of rainy days, so be sure to make room in your suitcase for a waterproof jacket and shoes. If you're planning on walking or trekking, be sure to bring a pair of hiking shoes that can withstand the country's terrain, which includes volcanoes, thermal springs and hills.

Witness Iceland’s spectacular natural wonders. Drive over the moorlands of Mosfellsheiði en route to Þingvellir National Park. Visit Goðafoss Waterfall and watch the water from the Hvítá River thunder before visiting the Geysir geothermal area.

Ring of Fire - Geothermal Landscapes of Reykjavík

Explore the geothermal area surrounding Mount Hengill, an active volcano that last erupted 2,000 years ago. Visit Hellisheiði Geothermal Power Plant, Hveragerði, a town located on top of an old magma chamber, and Þingvellir National Park.

Embark on a walking tour led by Kári, the friendly fish store owner in Ísafjörður. Explore the store's back area, learning about local fish species and enjoying a sushi tasting. Visit Dokkan microbrewery for beer sampling, then savor seafood soup at Tjöruhúsið, housed in one of Ísafjörður's oldest buildings.

Whale Watching with a Marine Biologist

I'm travelling alone, how will I get to meet people?

Our single guests feel right at home on board our ships; Fred. Olsen have the reputation of sailing the friendliest fleet afloat. 

How do I get off the ship if we're at anchor?

Disembarking when your ship's at anchor is a very different experience to when it's docked portside. Getting ashore in this instance often involves the use of the ship's tender, which is accessed via the steps of a secure gangway.

Video: Picked up a sick passenger from a cruise ship

A call was received by the helicopter team of the Icelandic Coast Guard early this morning due to the acute illness of a passenger of a cruise ship.

The ship was located on the east coast of Greenland and the crew of the TF-EIR helicopter traveled a long distance from Reykjavík and about 130 nautical miles north of Horn.

The man was hoisted on board in good condition and the operation was successful. When the patient boarded the helicopter, it was flown to Ísafjörður to refuel.

From there, the helicopter flew straight to Reykjavik and the patient was taken to the National Hospital.

The line's 11 oceangoing ships carry between 930 and 998 guests (at double occupancy) and offer luxurious, comfortable Scandinavian-style spaces. The line will add Viking Vesta to its ocean fleet in 2025.

Viking's exploration program boasts special access to behind-the-scenes experiences curated for travelers who are interested in history, food, the arts or science. All the ships in this adults-only cruise line feature 1,404 cabins (most with balconies) and RockStar Quarters suites, where guests have access to Richard's Rooftop, an exclusive outdoor deck space. The superyacht-inspired vessels boast 20-plus eateries, including restaurants by Michelin-starred chefs, and a variety of onboard fitness and wellness spaces. Two ships in P&O Cruises' U.K.-based fleet – Arcadia and Aurora – are exclusively for adults 18 and older. Arcadia, the slightly newer of the two ships (debuted in 2005), carries 2,094 guests at double occupancy, plus 866 crew. The ship departs from Southampton in the U.K. and sails to a variety of European destinations, ranging from Spain and the Canary Islands to Norway and Iceland; some cruises visit the U.S. and Canada. Arcadia's 15 restaurants, cafes and bars include Indian cuisine with a British twist at Sindhu, as well as steaks and seafood by renowned British chef Marco Pierre White at Ocean Grill. Passengers can take a class to sample the line's branded gins; sip Champagne at Intermezzo, the ship's cocktail and Champagne venue; or enjoy a pre-dinner aperitif at the yacht-inspired Spinnaker. Top Cruises Designed for Adults

While some all-inclusive – or mostly all-inclusive – boutique and luxury cruise lines are family-friendly, many of the onboard venues and activities are adult-by-design. Since there are few (or no) activities geared toward younger cruisers and no babysitting services, you typically won't find parents with young children on these ships.

Azamara's four upscale boutique ships provide immersive travel experiences geared toward adults. These smaller ships – accommodating a maximum of 702 guests – sail waterways and rivers that larger ships can't access, docking in city centers and unique ports of call around the globe.

Many Azamara voyages also offer longer stays and overnights in port, unlike some competitors' itineraries. Some even feature special events, such as a 12-night voyage from Rome to watch the Monaco Grand Prix in May 2025, or a 25-night cruise in February 2025 from Buenos Aires, Argentina , to attend Carnival in Rio de Janeiro . The line's second luxury yacht, Scenic Eclipse II, which is nearly identical to its sister ship, debuted from Lisbon, Portugal , in April 2023. Silversea's all-inclusive luxury ocean and expedition cruises offer voyages to more than 900 destinations across the seven continents. Silversea's 11 ultra-luxury ships and expedition vessels range in size from 51 to 364 suites and boast spacious ocean view accommodations – most with private verandas. Cruise fares cover door-to-door transfers from home to the ship, including airfare (business class in some destinations) and pre- and post-cruise hotel stays. Silver Ray is set to become the 12th ship in the Silversea fleet when it debuts in summer 2024. The luxury vessel adds more open spaces and top-notch cuisine. Silver Ray is also the second vessel in the fleet to be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and is billed as a more sustainable cruise ship.

Four of the line's ships are purpose-built expedition vessels that sail to the farthest reaches of the Earth, including Antarctica, the Arctic and Greenland, French Polynesia and the Pacific, Asia, and more. Seabourn features an all-inclusive adult-focused experience on its five luxury ocean vessels and two expedition ships. One of the line's newest ships, Seabourn Pursuit, is an ultra-luxury Polar Class 6 purpose-built expedition vessel with 132 oceanfront veranda suites. The ship is equipped with two submarines for underwater exploration, kayaks and 24 Zodiacs. Windstar just announced the addition of two new ships to its fleet; Star Seeker is expected to launch in December 2025, followed by Star Explorer in December 2026. On Norwegian 's Bliss, Escape, Getaway and Breakaway ships, the Vibe Beach Club sun deck invites guests to relax in oversized hot tubs and comfy daybeds, adding perks like a full-service bar and chilled towels. Located at the front of every ship in the fleet, this indoor-outdoor oasis (or indoor-only on Quantum Class ships) offers impressive vistas and endless views of the sea. Thanks to a full glass canopy over the interior space, adult passengers can enjoy quiet lounging areas, swimming pools and whirlpool tubs with a view, no matter the weather. Select ships feature a cascading lagoon for further relaxation.

Be sure to grab a tropical cocktail or zero-proof drink at Solarium Bar (or Sunshine Bar, on Quantum ships) to sip poolside while enjoying the ocean vistas. Guests of both bars must be at least 21 years old when sailing from North America or a minimum of 18 when departing from South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

Adult cruisers (18 and older) can relax and chill out at the first suspended infinity pool at sea at The Hideaway on Royal Caribbean's newest ship, Icon of the Seas. Anne Scully, a partner at the luxury travel company EMBARK Beyond, says, "With so many cruise lines and sailings, it's always a good idea to have options – and adults-only cruises are very popular." She adds, "Viking and Virgin have always focused on adults-only cruises and most river cruises also cater to adult passengers."

Adults-only cruises are designed with guests ages 18 and older in mind, from the staterooms and dining venues to the onboard entertainment and shore excursions. What you typically won't find on board are water or theme parks, climbing walls, game rooms, and restaurants serving kid-friendly foods.

If you're looking for a relaxing, fun and romantic vacation without the kids in tow – and you don't want to deal with the other passengers' children on your getaway – consider booking a sailing specifically for cruisers at least 18 years old. Alternatively, select a cruise line or ship that caters to mostly adults and doesn't offer any services, kids clubs, babysitting or activities for children.

You don't have to be a kid to be a Disney Cruise Line fan. While the line does not have an adults-only vessel within the fleet, there are plenty of kid-free spaces for adults only. Adults can enjoy cocktails, dinner and entertainment in several venues and relax at designated pool areas on the ship. There's also private, adults-only stretch of beach, Serenity Bay, on the line's private island, Castaway Cay.

In addition, Disney offers one of the best programs to keep youngsters entertained at sea, so you'll find that many of the children hang out in the kids club during the day and in the evening. These club spaces are divided by age groups, and they're typically open until midnight or 1 a.m. so parents – and even adults without kids – can enjoy a night out on the ship sans kids.

Princess Cruises offers 2026 cruise to let viewers see next total solar eclipse from Spain

Don't want to wait for 2079, the next time a full solar eclipse will be seen from New Jersey?

The next total solar eclipse takes place on Aug. 12, 2026, and crosses over parts of Russia, Greenland, Iceland, Spain and Portugal.

Princess Cruises has a 14-day Mediterranean cruise that will be positioned off the coast of northern Spain on the day of the eclipse.

The Sky Princess, which can host up to 3,660 cruisegoers, departs Southampton, London, for a roundtrip on Aug. 8, 2026, and returns on Aug. 22, 2026. It visits seven ports.

"The best way to see a total solar eclipse is via cruise ship, and our guests who recently experienced this rare occurrence on Discovery Princess and Emerald Princess were simply blown away," said John Padgett, Princess Cruises president, in a news release. "We make it easy for guests to come aboard, relax and meet other eclipse enthusiasts. It's truly a special opportunity."

Princess says that during the eclipse, guests will gather on the top decks with safety glasses for viewing. During the cruise, they'll also have access to lectures from astronomy experts, themed treats and drinks, stargazing, solar system trivia and more.

You can snag tickets for the Total Eclipse Sky Princess Voyage starting May 23, 2024. Rates start at $2,199 per person, exclusive of taxes, fees and port expenses. Padgett says tickets for the 2024 eclipse cruises sold out quickly.

Port of Dover welcomes inaugural calls from three cruise lines

The UK port received first-time visits from Compagnie Française de Croisières, Seabourn and TUI Cruises

The Port of Dover has welcomed inaugural visits from Compagnie Française de Croisières (CFC), Seabourn and TUI Cruises from 7 to 11 May 2024. These are three of six inaugural visits the UK port expects to host during  an ‘unforgettable year’ . 

Plaque exchange ceremonies took place onboard CFC’s Renaissance, Seabourn’s Seabourn Venture and TUI Cruises’ Mein Schiff 4 following each vessel’s arrival to the port, which hosts ships from over 20 cruise lines each year. 

“It’s been a fantastic week for us; we are delighted to have welcomed a trio of wonderful cruise ships for debut calls, with their guests being able to sit alongside the stunning backdrop of the White Cliffs in all its glory as the sun arrived just in time,” said Peter Wright, head of cruise at the Port of Dover. 

On 7 May CFC’s Renaissance, which debuted in September 2023, called at Dover as part of a 10-day Scottish Highlands voyage.

On 9 May Dover was the final port of call for Mein Schiff 4 as it sailed a five-day roundtrip from Bremerhaven, Bremen in Germany. The ship became TUI Cruises’ second ship to sail from Dover in 2024 as Mein Schiff 3 will return in June as it spends the summer sailing British Isles and Western European itineraries.

“TUI Cruises calls at various ports in the UK; Dover, with its location on the south-east coast of England and quick access to London, is an attractive port for the Mein Schiff fleet,” said Marcus Puttich, TUI Cruises' destinations director. “We are delighted that the guests of Mein Schiff 4 have now also been able to discover the city and the region for the first time.” 

Finally, Seabourn Venture called at the Port of Dover on 11 May. Seabourn has eight more turnaround visits scheduled at the port this season with its ships, Seabourn Ovation, Seabourn Sojourn and Seabourn Quest.
