Look Who’s Coming to Portland

So you’re getting excited for the Wendy’s Invitational in Portland, and you’re probably starting to wonder who you’ll get to see throw down at the Rose Quarter.

The answer is: everyone. Well, maybe not technically ‘everyone’, but with the first three-sport stop of the Dew Tour this summer, it does feel a bit like a full-on reunion. With over 140 skateboarders and riders heading up to P-town, we promise it’ll be a great week. We’ve got everyone who ended up on top so far at the Nike 6.0 BMX Open and Skate Open ISF Skateboarding World Championships up to defend their #1 spots: Hult, Mirra, Bestwick, Sheckler, and Lasek. We also have everyone who landed on podiums at those stops, from Chris Cole to Ryan Decenzo to Ryan Nyquist to Steven McCann.

We also have a bunch of people fresh off stellar X Games performances who could be looking to ride that momentum to a win in Portland: golden boys PLG, Garrett Reynolds, and P-Rod; and guys like Adam Dyet and Rob Lorifice, who got some taste of podium action and could want to stay up there…

And if that weren’t enough, we also are going to have some tales of comeback.  We’ve got a couple Dew Cup winners who are going to have to fight a little to defend their titles (Daniel Dhers and Cam White, we’re looking at you). Scotty Cranmer surprised everyone by not just riding the Dirt OQ but by ending up 14th in the standings, while ending much lower in Park. With an X-Games Gold in Park, Scotty could be looking to be a double threat.

Last, but definitely not least, it’s finally time for FMX to make it’s appearance on the 2009 Dew Tour, with a FMX jam session featuring Jeremy Stenberg, Mike Mason, Ronnie Faisst, Adam Jones, Nate Adams, Robbie Maddison, and Jeff Fehr.

So, kids, get your autograph pens ready. Here’s the full list:

Why write about them when you can just watch them?

Highlights from Dew Tour? Why write about them when you can just watch them? Dew Tour 2023 Results and BTS Photos

dew tour portland 2023

The Dew Tour wrapped in Copper, Colorado and It’s hard to argue, that despite any podium results, that the unequivocal “winner” of the Dew Tour was 11 year old Patti Zhou. With each interview, her responses seemed to grow in hilarity, so we made compilation.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by SlushMag (@slushthemagazine)

Beyond the star power that Patti brought into this broadcast, we are also shown a glimpse into the budding rivalry that is likely to ensue between Zhou and Gaon Choi, the 14 year old Korean pipe rider who also just took gold at X Games, and will likely enter a long run of podiums so long as Chloe Kim continues to refrain from competition.

Men’s superpipe turned out to be quite the nail biter as well, with Taylor Gold and Ayumu Hirano, relying on their final runs to propel them into the top two spots. Ayumu would successfully put down a pair of 1440s, a crippler, back 9, straight into frontside 1260 to earn a score of 96.66. Gold came back from last position into second in his last run with a solid line packed with one massive air to fakie that sticks with us. Raibu Katayama on the other hand, entered the contest swinging, as his first run would hold him in podium position for the entirety of the contest.

We would be remiss to not mention that perhaps our favorite part was when Ayumu denied doing an interview after his winning run.

After the Superpipe contest wrapped, a Big Air jam ensued with both skiers and snowboarders. Ayumu and Raibu battled back and forth for highest air, with Atom ultimately winning the day with a massive 22’ 8” air. The most important takeaway here was that Snowboarders went bigger than skiers.

On the other end of the spectrum was the streetsyle event. The format broke riders into three separate heats of four riders, the top two advancing to a head to head round that would dictate the final three riders facing off in finals.

In the women’s comp, Alexis Roland would prove victorious through the help of a switchback 50 combo and full pulls through the course.

Slush Mag Rookie if the year, Egan Wint brought the heat while dawning a pink cast on her wrist with Hot Coco head honcho Maria Thomsen taking third place despite a bone bruise on her knee that was making even walking a challenge.

The “Papa Johns Flip It Award'' (yea, we don't know) was awarded to Jaylen Hanson for her impressive Front Board Pretzel.  Jaylen rode incredibly well.

The men’s competition wrapped the whole event, as the legs of completion brought on a number of upsets in the second round, as one of the favorites to win, Darcy Sharpe was eliminated by LJ Henriquez. Nate Haust seemed to be unbeatable though as his winning run consisted of a 450 out that was simply bolts, which combined with his other tricks gave him a score of 92.33. Haust was also awarded the Papa Johns Flip It Award for the Cab 270 on, 450 out for the $2,500 cash prize. Haust won after a tense couple minutes in the corale standing next to Benny Milam, who also had an impressive run

Dew Tour – Portland

Project: Dew Tour Downhill Street Course

Location: Portland, OR

Date:  September 2014

Client: California Rampworks

Project Overview:

Downhill skateboard and bmx professional event. This event was created by NBC Sports, Alli Sports and Mountain Dew and aired on NBC. It took place in downtown Portland, Oregon, on Broadway Street between Jefferson and Salmon Street.

• Geo-location and terrain mapping • Course design • Scaffold and structure design • Assembly documents • Renderings • Construction coordination

Design Challenges:

– Designing a course on an existing downhill sloping course with varying pitches – Managing speed control and feature spacing to optimize the set-up for each zone. – Creating a course that worked well for skateboard and bmx – Designing a course that fit the brand image and event concept the Dew Tour wanted to preserve – Creating detailed assembly documents to help with the overnight build schedule – Coordinating multiple crews spread across three city blocks – Making in field adjustments to allow for imperfections in the street asphalt and ill-placed manhole covers and cracks

We were able to design a full three-block downhill street course that worked extremely well to showcase the skateboard and bmx pros for the nationally televised event. Shipping containers, flat-bed trucks and graffiti- covered cars were incorporated into the overall design of the course. The design also contained multiple gaps, launch ramps, rails, stairs and other unique features linking them all together.  We worked directly with the Dew Tour group to incorporate the look and feel they were going for.

Maggie Rogers Announces Arena Tour, Sequel to In-Person Ticketing Program to Skirt Scalpers

By Waiss Aramesh

Waiss Aramesh

Following the success of Maggie Rogers ’ in-person ticketing program for her tour last year, she’s going even bigger in 2024. Ahead of her new album Don’t Forget Me dropping on Friday, the singer announced her first arena run in the United States, kicking off in October after ‘ The Don’t Forget Me Tour, Part I ’ in early summer.

Friday kicks off a week-long celebration that Rogers is dubbing ‘Box Office Week’ that will include pop-up events, special shows at intimate venues in New York, Philadelphia, Boston, and Chicago, and chances to snag tickets to the arena tour at box offices across America.

Rogers’ arena run this fall includes a date at Madison Square Garden on October 19, a little over five years after the singer sold out two nights at Radio City Music Hall. Having gone to New York University and lived in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, Rogers is no stranger to venues across the city, from popping out at Barclays Center with Zach Bryan and Bruce Springsteen to her affinity for some of the city’s cozier settings.
