Both the City Tour Barcelona and the Barcelona Turístic Bus tours are available in two ticket formats – 1 day and 2 days. The 1 day pass costs €29 and the 2 days pass costs slightly costlier at €39. The passes are valid for the calendar days and not number of hours. The validity of the card starts on the redemption of the online pass at the various redemption centres in the city.

2. Timings and Frequency

The City Tour Barcelona Hop on Hop off Bus Tour runs from 9 AM to 7 PM daily in the winter and 9 AM to 8 PM in the summer. The frequency varies anywhere between 5-25 minutes depending on the tourist season.

The Barcelona Turístic Hop On Hop Off Bus tours start between 9 AM to 9:30 AM daily at most stops. Final departures are at 7 PM during winter and 8 PM during summer. You can obtain the timetable at each stop. The frequency of the buses varies between 5-25 minutes depending on how full the buses run.

These bus tours do not run on Christmas (25th December) and New Year (1st January).

The City Tour Barcelona : Hop on Hop Off Bus Tour has two major routes – EAST and WEST which run along the length of the city. Duration : Tour takes an approximate 2 hours to complete. Departure from: The bus departs and ends at Plaça de Catalunya. Stops : There are 30 stops altogether on both the routes. The Barcelona Turistic : Hop On Hop Off Bus Tour runs has three major routes – RED, BLUE and GREEN. The Red and Blue routes run through the year but the Green Route runs only from 23rd March to 4th November. Duration : Tour takes an approximate 2 hours to complete. Departure from: The blue and red routes depart from Plaça de Catalunya and the green route departs from the Olympic Marina. Stops : There are a total of 45 stops in all the routes combined.

We were only in Barcelona for a couple of days so wanted to make the most of our visit and my boyfriend’s parents had suggested the bus tour. We’re so glad we did it as there were so many things we wanted to see and this gave us the ability to see everything we wanted and skip what we didn’t, without getting lost or having to walk or try to work out public transport from place to place. The buses were extremely frequent so when getting back on we rarely waited more than 5 minutes, which again allowed us to fit as much in as we could.  The headphones provided also meant we could listen to the audio guide as we travelled which was a nice touch and catered for plenty of languages.

• Plan ahead for the route you wish to take and the sightseeing stops you want to stop at. If you have already purchased other attraction tickets, ensure you combine them with the bus stops, otherwise you will waste time getting to the places.
• Ensure all the attractions on your chosen route are open for the day, as certain attractions are closed on specific days.
• If you wish to occupy the upper deck, ensure you carry headgear and sunscreen as it can get windy or sunny depending on the weather.
• The bus tours stop only near or at the entrances of the attractions. You will still have to do a fair amount of walking to the actual attractions.
• Ensure you carry good walking shoes, as you will be doing a lot of walking.

No, the only transport included is the 24 or 48 hour Bus Turistic pass.

Can I use the 10% discount to get an Hola Bcn transport card?

Yes. This is particularly handy for those who want transport from Barcelona Airport.

If I visit for 6 days and buy two Hola Bcns for 4 days and 2 days do I get discounts on both?

Do I have to pick anything up?

No, all tickets and discount codes are done online.

Do I absolutely have to select my visiting dates for Sagrada Familia and Park Güell?

Yes, it’s fundamental to get your tickets sent.

Keep in mind that time slot selection is super standard – the only open tickets for Sagrada are for a small time window (4:00 pm to 6:00 pm) at the end of the day and carry a premium price tag.

Park Guell also caps out at 200 visitors per hour and so booking in advance is virtually mandatory.

You’ll have to select your times anyway, pass or not.

For other attractions that require a date and time, can I select whatever I want?

I received the booking confirmation but didn’t get the tickets, what do I do?

Tiqets promises to have all tickets emailed within 24 hours so if less than 24 hours have passed you’ll simply have to wait.

To skip the lines do I have to show my visitor pass?

No, in reality the pass is digital so there’s nothing to show. What allows you to skip the lines are the attraction tickets you’ve purchased with the pass.

I’m looking at the Barcelona Card too – what’s the difference?

For the  Barcelona Card know that those discounts are only applied at ticket windows – no line jumping possible here.

With the City Pass you’ll be able to apply the discount to tickets bought online from the comfort of home and skip the lines later. No other card gives you this option.

The Barcelona Card also differs in that it places a lot of its value in transport around the city . Unless you’ve got a hostel or holiday apartment a bit far out of the city or are planning on squeezing in a ton of attractions in a short time the transport isn’t mandatory.

You can skip the line at all highlights included in the City Pass: Sagrada Familia, Park Güell, Hop on Hop off Bus.

The date and time of the visits to the Sagrada Familia and Parc Güell must be specified when purchasing the city pass. Both monuments have time slots so that there are not too many visitors at the time you visit them.

The City Pass is valid for the dates and time slots you choose. You cannot reschedule this ticket.  You can only visit each place once. For the tourist bus, it is important to know that the ticket is valid for one calendar day and not for 24 hours. You cannot start using it one day and finish your tour the next. So you need to get organised to make the most of the day you have chosen. 

You can bring your children for free and they don´t need a ticket.

The Aerobus stops - (airport shuttle) - on the way to Barcelona are the following: > Airport - Plaça Espanya, Gran Via -Comte Borrell, Plaça de l'Universitat- Plaça Catalunya. The Aerobus stops for the return journey to Barcelona airport are as follows: >> Plaça Catalunya, Sepúlveda-Urgell, Plaça Espanya, Airport.

The tickets for the Hop on Hop off Bus are valid from the moment you start using them.

The hop-on hop-off bus (included in the city pass) runs every day between 9am and 8pm (7pm in winter) and runs every 5 to 25 minutes at each stop on the different routes.

Not a problem, it is the barcode which is important.

We recommend to make the reservation all together. The time slots for Sagrada Familia and Park Güell run out quickly so it is important to make the reservations together or close to each other.

This means that it's an open ticket, no need to visit it on a specific date.

There is no special rate for this but there is already so much discount included in the City Pass that it is worthwhile to purchase it.

Check also your spam. If you did not received them in your SPAM you probably did not filled in your availability yet. Please do and you will receive all tickets by email.

Unfortunately Sagrada Família or Park Guell doesn't allow any change after issuing the tickets.

At the entrance of Park Güell the staff will inform you how to download the audioguide. 

This audioguide will be send to you by email so you can download the audioguide to your phone. We recommend to take your headphones so you can listen to the audioguide when you want. 

The Barcelona City Pass does not include Public Transportation. With the Hop on Hop off Bus you do have an easy method to see the city in a relaxed and fun way! A 100% mobile ticket simply means that your ticket - which you will receive by email just after your purchase - will be - in its electronic form (PDF) - sufficient to enable you to make your visit with your smartphone or tablet. All you have to do is present it at the checkpoint. A simple scan will allow you to make your visit.

You can of course print your ticket if you don't have a smartphone, a tablet or if you simply prefer this option. Upon receipt of the confirmation email, simply print the PDF of the ticket. Then just present your printed ticket at the checkpoint.

A 100% skip the line ticket means that the ticket in question allows you to enter the place you want to visit in Barcelona without queuing, for example at the ticket office. All you have to do is present your ticket directly at the entrance. This way, you won't lose any time on your day of discovery.

When you are asked to specify the date of your visit, it is because the monument or service you have chosen to visit also requests it. Most of the time, this date allows tourist sites to limit the number of visitors and therefore to make the visits more fluid. Please note that if you are not asked to specify the time of your visit, this means that you can arrive at any time to visit the site - while respecting the visiting hours of the site in question.

Same as before, but here in addition to the date - the monument or service you have chosen to visit - also asks you to specify the time you wish to visit. Once again it is a matter of limiting the number of visitors so that your visit is as pleasant as possible.

On the ticket that you will receive by email after your purchase, it is normally specified how much time - in addition to the scheduled time - you are granted in order not to lose your visit. Please note, for example, that a visit to Park Güell entitles you to entry 30 minutes after the stated time. The Sagrada Familia ticket indicates a time slot of 15 minutes. It is therefore important to respect this time slot. If the ticket does not specify a time slot, then the timetable must be respected.

We talk about combined tickets in some of our offers when they offer, for example, two places to visit in Barcelona. The ticket itself is not combined. It is two separate tickets that we combine to make a more economical and attractive offer. You will receive these two tickets by email. As they are separate you can use them according to your preference when the tickets are open or according to the dates and times you choose.

The city’s official pass, run by the tourist board, the Barcelona Card offers free entry – with skip the line privileges – to many of the best museums in the Catalan capital, most notably the superb Picasso Museum , but also the MNAC ( National Museum of Catalan Art ), MACBA , Joan Miro Foundation and most branches of the Barcelona History Museum.

NEW: They also added free entry to the MOCO Museum, worth €20. Given this trove of modern art is right next door to the Picasso Museum, you can now do a double art dip in just a couple of hours.

There’s also free entry to many of the city’s less visited, but worthwhile treasures, such as the Frederic Mares Museum, Caixa Forum , CosmoCaixa ( good for kids !), Design Museum, Egyptian Museum and the serene Botanical Gardens .

The card doubles as a free travel card around the city , which is handy and saves you faffing around at ticket machines for the duration of your stay.

After purchase, you will need to collect the card from the airport or one of the tourist offices / collection points in the centre. Usually it’s better to collect it at the airport, so you can take advantage of the metro transport direct from arrival. However the card is valid from the moment you first use it, so if you’re not planning to visit any museums on your first day you might want to wait to activate it later.

Sadly the Barcelona Card doesn’t include tickets to La Sagrada Familia nor Park Guell, nor any of Gaudi’s other UNESCO-listed works . Although it does at least provide you with discounts for Casa Mila, Casa Batllo, Casa Vicens and Palau Guell, and many many more attractions, shops and entertainment venues.

Overall, I would recommend this option for any museum lovers who plan on using Barcelona’s excellent public metro system during their stay.

Top Tip: If you want museums and public transport plus Gaudi you could buy this card and the Barcelona Pass (or Go City Explorer Pass ).

Is it worth buying the Barcelona Card? The conclusion is yes, provided you plan on visiting at least one museum a day. If you do so, you’d be saving up to €20 per museum entry fee, plus travelling for free around the city using the excellent metro system, which will also now take you all the way to the airport. You’d have to buy your Park Guell and Sagrada Familia tickets separately, however, which is why for first-time visitors to the city I’d recommend checking the Barcelona Pass or the Go City All-Inclusive or Explorer Pass , before making your decision. You may even be able to combine two passes to get everything you want.

A new brand in town, the Go City All-Inclusive pass is rather impressive! You simply choose the number of days you will need the pass for (the more days, the higher the cost), and then you can visit as many sights and museums as you like for FREE within that timeframe.

Amazingly, Go City seemed to have struck a deal with virtually every major tourist attraction in town, and everything you hope to see in Barcelona is included in the price (go back to Comparison Table to see what I mean!). In fact, they’ve actually gone one better for some of the top attractions, as you actually get a guided tour of La Sagrada Familia, Park Guell and Picasso Museum included in the price (which starts at €159 for a 2-day pass, and perhaps hits a sweet spot at €194 for a 3-day pass), not just a ticket.

So far, go great… but is there a snag? Yes, a little one. Some of the best sights (starting with La Sagrada Familia) require booking in advance and are limited by availability, so you need to check that on their website before you go ahead and buy the pass. In general, provided you buying your All-Inclusive pass a week or two ahead of time you should be ok.

Overall there’s a stunning amount of high-end, expensive attractions included in the cost of the pass, and it should be really easy to get value for money – you might even save a small fortune! Great site! Glad I came upon it 🙂

Two questions for you : 1- I will be staying in Barcelona for a week in July, and was planning on buying this trio : https://www.tiqets.com/en/checkout/billets-pour-barcelona-card-gaudi-bundle-p1014705/booking_details/ . Is there a better option that would include 7 days, not just 5?

2- It seems the Barcelona Card has to be picked up directly at the airport : do you know if it’s easy to find the place?

You don’t have to pick up the Barcelona Card at the airport, and unless you plan to take the metro from the airport you could pick up your Cards later in town (there are multiple collection points, which I will share from the official site below).

I would say you would be better off taking the Aerobus or taxi into town , and then collect the card from a tourist office on your first full day in town and only activate it once you head to your first attraction (not once you get on at the airport metro, because then you start the clock going on your Card before you’re really ready to start using it!).

5 days is the maximum Card duration, but if, as I suggest, you activate it on your first full day (not on arrival) I think that will work well for you… that will leave you a full day at the end of your sightseeing to chill out, hit the beach, go shopping or take a day trip .

UPDATE: Also the smart thing to do would probably book your Sagrada Familia and Park Guell tickets, from the Gaudi Bundle, on your first full day, or morning even, and then only activate the Barcelona Card afterwards. That way your Gaudi Bundle and Barcelona Card are not running concurrently (which would reduce the time you have with the Card active at no benefit to yourself).

Here are the Card collection points… the airport terminals are not too large so should be easy find if you do decide to collect your Cards there… you could do and still activate the Cards later.

Thanks for your great site. We bought the 2-day Go City All Inclusive pass as it’s our first time in Barcelona. We noticed that there were instructions to pre-reserve Sagrada Familia and Park Guell and we did so. But for Casa Mila and Casa Batllo it says to present the pass at entry. I’m worried that if we don’t pre-reserve it could be full (traveling beginning of June). Do you know if it’s possible to reserve an entry time in advance with the Go City AI Pass?

Hi Joanna, I have just heard back from Go City. They said

“On attractions that need reservations we have the booking system which they have used for the other attractions that require. On attractions that say just show your pass unfortuantly it is not possible. We give hints on less busier times ie Casa Batllo: We recommend visiting between 12pm and 3pm or after 6pm to avoid busiest times. During peak times please allow an extra 20 mins to get through the ticket gates.”

It seems they are confident you will be able to get in, otherwise they would no doubt add an obligatory time slot reservation system. I occasionally walk by those two mansions, and I haven’t seen any excessive queues of late. Hopefully that will remain the situation in June.

This has the advantage that the Sagrada Familia and Park Guell tickets come with a guided tour. I think the Picasso Museum too.

Or take the Barcelona Pass and select Casa Batllo instead of the Tourist Bus (this is a new option available!), then pick up the 3 cheaper attractions (Casa Mila, MACBA and Picasso) as individual tickets with the 10% discount you get with the Barcelona Pass… I think this works out marginally cheaper than the Go City Pass.

Hi Duncan My husband and I are visiting Barcelona from 10 – 16 May. We’ll be staying in Sant Adria de Besos, which means we’ll have to travel to the city centre for most of the attractions. We are planning to see Sagrada Familia, Park Guell, Casa Batlo & Cable Car to Montjuic and Picasso museum, using the Hop on Hop off bus. Can you please recommend a suitable city pass? Are all of the tickets bought in advance skip-the-line tickets or just the guided tour ones?

So you could get the Barcelona Pass and select Casa Batllo (instead of Tourist Bus), then pick up individual tickets for Tourist Bus, Cable Car and Picasso Museum with a 10% discount on Tiqets (which you get with the Barcelona Pass). This should work out around 135 euros I think.

Currently the All Inclusive 2 Day pass is on sale for 130 euros so that might be even better!

Hello I am planning family trip to Barcelona in the begining of June(5days=3full days,because we arrive at 13:00 1st day and leaving on 5th day at 13:00) I am travelling with my husband and my mother in law,(seniora with limited mobility for walking).And i have disabled person’s status. We have plane tickets and place where to live(close to La Sagrada Familia). We know what we want to see( Montserrat,Tibidabo Montjuic,Magic fauntain Montjuic,Park Guell,something similar to la Boqueria,but less crowded.Sagrada Familia,Casa Batllo,Casa Mila,Poble Espanyol,MNAC,Jardi Botanic de Barelona,Parc de Cuitadella,maybe some flamenco. Also to try best Patatas Bravas and sangria,etc.

Hi Ilona, not sure if you had a specific question, but I think either of the Go City Passes should save you some money.

One thing to bear in mind. The Magic Fountain is not working because of the drought conditions. The area is still nice to see, as the MNAC building is very grand with good views.

Good alternatives to Boqueria, with much less people, would be Santa Caterina Market or Sant Antoni Market.

Hi Lisa, yes the All Inclusive pass is for consecutive days, so you would have to bear that in mind.

The Explorer Pass is valid for 60 days, so you might want to crunch the maths on that one instead!

Hi Duncan, we are travelling to Barcelona next week for 5 days and I was thinking about getting the Go City Explorer Pass and possibly do 5 or 6 main attractions in that week. We hope to walk from one thing to another as we have a city centre apartment. If you have to book Sagrada in advance, how can you show that you have a Go City pass which allows free entry? I’m not clear on how to do that. I’m guessing this doesn’t give an option to skip the queue? Thank you for this brilliant guide!

Hi Mandy, so when you book the Go City passes you should be presented with a link to book a Sagrada Familia Guided Tour. The tour is run by another company (Amigo Tours) and they typically offer slots three times a day. 9am, 1:30pm and 3:30pm. The tour will include your tickets and you won’t have to get queue to get in (you will have to turn up on time though to the meeting point!).

For transport you could take advantage of the Tourist Bus with the All Inclusive (I think just for one day though), or you could invest in Hola Barcelona Transport Cards if you plan on being on the metro a lot. If you are not 100% sure you will get value from the Hola Transport Cards and want to be flexible you could probably just buy each family member a T-Casual card on arrival, that costs about €11-12 and gets you 10 journeys per card.

Arriving Feb 5 afternoon, staying in Barcelona until Feb 11 early morning, going to Madrid and then back to Barcelona on Feb 12 late evening as our return tickets have to be departed from Barcelona on Feb 13. Greetings! I’ll be in Barcelona for 3 days on the 16th-20th of December (2 days for travel). I anticipate on visiting La Sagrada Familia, Picasso Musuem, and Dali Theater and Musuem. What would you suggest? Also, do I need to make a reservation prior to my visit?

Cheapest would be just to buy separate tickets, although, if you enjoy guided tours, then you get an Go City Explorer Pass, 2 attraction option, and choose Sag Fam guided tour and Picasso guided tour and you would be making a very nice saving!

Ok, so you might want to consider the Barcelona Essential Pass , which is similar to the Barcelona Pass, but with public transport included (in the form of the Hola Barcelona Pass ) instead of the Tourist Bus.

That would get you Sagrada Familia (with audioguide), Park Guell and free public transport (including metro/train from the airport), plus audioguide for Barcelona in general. When you buy the Essential Card via Tiqets you get a 10% discount code emailed to you, which you could use to pick up Casa Batllo tickets.

Those sights are all included in the Go City All Inclusive pass .

For Montjuic, you could use the Tourist Bus (included) to get there and you also have cable car tickets (for going right to the top), and free entry to Poble Espanyol, Olympic Museum and CaixaForum. Or you could sign up for the Montjuic Walking Tour (included).

Hi Duncan There’s just to many choices. We will be flying in on the 26th of October and leaving November 1 on a cruise so we are most interested the transit pass and a few major attractions. Yes, it’s not always an obvious decision… I think the Barcelona Pass does a great job of catering to the first-time visitor’s needs. Sagrada Familia, Park Guell, tourist bus to join the dots. Grab it and you’re done basically!

However from your comment I feel like the Barcelona Card might be a better choice. That’s the official city card, which grants you free entry to pretty much all the city museums (more reading here: https://www.barcelona-life.com/barcelona/museums so you can see which take your fancy), none of which (apart from the Picasso Museum) get too crowded. The Barcelona Card also grants you free public transport.

The Go City passes are great if you want to do virtually ALL the expensive Gaudi sights (Sag Fam, Park Guell and the three separate mansions) and / or like tours. You can save good money with them if you are piling up the expensive options basically.

Hope that summary helps!

You might be best off making your itinerary first and then seeing if any of the cards line up well with your choices!

We are traveling in August with my husband and 3 teens. I already booked my Sagrada Familia tickets. We will like to visit Casa Batlló, el parque Güell, Monserrat tour, and maybe something else. If you’re already got your Sagrada Familia tickets then it’s hard to save money with any of the passes, because SF is the most expensive attraction and the cards are usually priced around including it.

The 3-choice Explorer Pass would see you break even more or less, but with the disadvantage that their Montserrat tour is just transport (no tour guide), and it might be a place where you want more context…

I would probably just go for individual tickets to each attraction in your position.

Regarding transport to the cruise port… I haven’t actually been down to the cruise port, but I believe there’s a taxi rank there. Perhaps best iea though to book one advance, via the likes of Book Taxi BCN

On their website they have a drop down menu where you can select Barcelona Port – Cruise Terminal as your pick up and Barcelona City (All Destinations) as your drop off. You can also let them know what ship you’re on, so they’ll be there to meet you.

Uber doesn’t work in Barcelona btw (although Cabify app does, so you could also try that for getting around town).

You have this in your post: Free Transport The Go City All-Inclusive pass includes free use of the Hop On / Hop Off Barcelona Tourist Bus for the duration of the card, plus Montjuic Cable Car tickets.

The Go Card company said you only have a bus option once, NOT for each day you have the all exclusive.

I think you want the 3 choices Explorer pass…. because two of your attractions (Poble Espanyol and Cable Car) are less than €20, which is the difference between the 3 choice and 4 choice and the 4 choice and 5 choice pass. In other words, you’d be paying more. As long as each choice costs €20-25 the Explorer works better… if less, better to buy individual tickets.

Conclusion: So get the 3 x Explorer Pass for Sag Fam, Casa Mila and Casa Batllo and then pick up individual tickets for Poble Espanyol and Cable Car.

So I checked for you and the official tourist bus website says :

“All Barcelona Bus Turístic buses are equipped with an access ramp and wheelchair space inside the vehicle.”

I would perhaps suggest staying somewhere in, or near, El Borne. It’s a nice district, centrally located and a good vibe. However you can’t go too far wrong, every central district is pretty nice IMHO and there’s a good metro services (with lifts and ramps) if you need to swap districts. Being close to the yellow line is useful for getting to and from the city beaches. Speaking of which Poblenou is a very chilled district with little traffic and close to the beaches.

Hi Duncan, My husband and I are visiting Barcelona in 2 weeks, where our daughter is studying abroad. Looking at all of the passes it seems the City Explorer Pass may be best for us (and then purchasing the T-Casual transportation passes). My question is for the Sagrada Familia tickets, can we get tickets with a Tower Tour? It seems that some of the passes don’t offer the Tower tour and I’m not sure if the Explorer Package does.

Also, we want to book a tour to Montserrat. Is there one you would recommend over another? There seem to be so many options. We like to be active so one with a hike or wine tasting sound good. Thanks for any help you can give!

Tower access is not part of the Sagrada Familia tour available with the Explorer Pass, although it’s possible you could later upgrade with the company who provides the Sagrada tour (Amigo Tours). The picture is not clear I’m afraid (I asked Go City, but they were not even sure).

If you want to be 100% sure, I’d maybe get separate tickets and use the Explorer Pass for other attractions. Given you’re here for 2 weeks you can take your time and the Explorer Pass makes most sense. Just use it for the most expensive attractions!

Hi Duncan, We will be traveling with our 4 year old in April. Wondering what would be the best option for us if we want to visit Parc Güell, La Sagrada Familia, el Tibidabo funicular (amusement Park not necessary), Montjuïc, Casa Milá or Batlló, a boat ride and possibly Montserrat. We don’t want guided tours, just entrance. We arrive on a Saturday late afternoon and leav e either Tuesday or Wednesday (if we include Montserrat). We would probably do our own thing around the Gothic quarter on Sunday and maybe a boat tour to allow for jet lag recovery. Would possibly fit in El Tibidabo or Montjuïc Sunday as well if we are up for it. Then sagrada familia, Parc Güell and Casa Batllo on Monday. Leaving Tuesday afternoon or tagging on Montserrat on Tuesday and leaving Wednesday morning. I was thinking the GoCity 3 day all inclusive pass would be worth it but not seems like most of what they offer are guided tours, which would be a challenge with a jet lagged 4 year old (and limited time). What pass would you recommend for our time there? I don’t know if it makes sense to start our pass on sunday (when jet lagged) or Monday. I liked the idea of the hop on hop off for transportation ease to the main attractions but maybe it’s not too hard to navigate public transport. Thank you!

Hi Michelle, while possible I think this might all be a bit ambitious for only two full days (Sunday and Monday).

If you’re keen to avoid being on a tour, perhaps the Barcelona Pass makes more sense. You can do Sagrada Familia and Park Guell on the same day, and use the rest of the day to ride the Tourist Bus over Montjuic (you don’t need advance tickets for Montjuic attractions like Joan Miro Foundation or MNAC so you can play Montjuic by ear). I’d just advise leaving plenty of time to get from Sagrada to Park Guell by Tourist Bus as I’ve heard the buses can get busy these days so you might have to queue a little to get on one. (Public transport def. possible, but a bit more hassle / walking).

Once you have the Barcelona Pass you can get 10% off Casa Batllo and a number of Montserrat and boat tours via Tiqets.

The Hola Barcelona Pass is pretty decent, as I believe you get the special airport metro fare included. You will probably save money vs. buying single tickets everywhere you go.

HOWEVER, I think 8/10 times you are going to save more money buying a T-Casual, which gives you 10 journeys on public transport for €11:35, with no time limit (or a time limit of several months).

Thanks for the feedback. Regarding your question, unfortunately these days tickets to popular attractions come with a specified time slot, meaning it’s no longer really viable to do the major sights in an ad hoc fashion. You have to plan a bit in advance. That’s true no matter which pass you buy, or which portal you get the tickets from, including the official websites, so there’s no way around it I’m afraid.

For your needs, I’d personally probably go for the Barcelona Pass and use the tourist bus to round up all those attractions in one day. Sagrada Familia maybe 10am, Park Guell at noon, lunch, then Camp Nou at 3pm, and then ride the bus over Montjuic in the late afternoon, as it’s very nice up there and some good views ( https://www.barcelona-life.com/barcelona/montjuic ). After you buy the Barcelona Pass, you should be able to buy the Camp Nou tickets with 10% discount via Tiqets.com.

That way you’ve done your sightseeing on Day 1 and can spend the rest of your trip walking around some cool districts like the Gothic Quarter, Born, Gracia or just go shopping, bar hopping or to the beach!

Yes, you can select Sagrada Familia or Park Guell skip-the-line tours with the Go Explorer Pass, and you will enter the attraction at the allotted time without queuing more than a few minutes… you do have to be on time though!

In general every advance ticket is a ‘skip the line’ ticket (the phrase ‘skip-the-line’ comes from the times when most tourists would simply turn up at the gates and form a line, but most people now plan in advance, esp. for the big attractions).

With Sagrada Familia, after buying the pass, you will have to reserve a slot for La Sagrada Familia (I believe GoCity will send you a link to a booking calendar, or a calendar will pop up from their page) either on a morning tour (Monday to Saturday at 09:30) or an afternoon tour (15:30).

Same situation for Park Guell, but different timetables. In May, looks like you can choose from 12:15, 15:45 or 18:15 each day.

For Casa Batllo you’re essentially getting their standard ‘Blue ticket’, which includes Audio Guide and Gaudi Cube (360 degrees media exhibit).

Montjuic is really cool place to visit, with loads of attractions. You can read more here:

The cable car is fun, with great views from the sky, and helpful if you want to get to the very top of the hill (which is a steep walk). However it’s only a few minutes ride, so it’s only a short trip. At the top of the hill is Montjuic Castle (it’s a fortress not a castle though), and great views over the commercial port.

If you wanted to get more value from your pass, you could use your fourth attraction slot to get into one of the more expensive attractions, like La Pedrera (aka Casa Mila), and just buy the cable car ticket.

Duncan, I just read your article and went to the link for the GO Pass, All Inclusive pass. We are going to Barcelona in late November for one week. We ended up getting the 5-day pass and it looks like we can see a lot while riding the double-decker buses to get to the attractions. I honestly think the one we got is the best value for your money, but if someone is only going for a day or two, I can see how one of the others might work better. Hi Henna, yes it looks like Barcelona Combo is best option for you. The Combo is actually the official Barcelona Tourist Card, plus a package of Sagrada Familia, Park Guell, Flamenco Show and Boat Trip added on top, at a discount price.

So you essentially are buying the Barcelona Card (you choose the duration, 3, 4 or 5 days), and that gives you free public transport, including metro to and from airport, and free Picasso Museum (plus many other museums). And then, in addition to the Card benefits, you also get the Combo bonuses as well (Sagrada Familia etc!), and you can choose the timing of those.

The Card would give you a discount on the Zoo and Aquarium (but not Camp Nou) if you did decide you wanted to visit any of those!

Ps. I don’t know of any family cards, but the Combo package is cheaper for those under 12 years old.

The Barcelona Card is the official sightseeing pass sold by the city’s tourist office. The card offers free entry to twenty-six museums and discounts for forty other attractions and tours. It also includes free unlimited travel by public transport, including the metro and train from the airport .

The 3, 4 or 5-day Barcelona Card offers a total of more than sixty discounts at attractions, museums, tours, shows, activities and nightlife, and some shops.

Which attractions are covered by the Barcelona Card?

Free entry to 26 of barcelona’s best museums, including:.

The National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC), Picasso Museum , Joan Miró Foundation , Barcelona History Museum (MUHBA) , Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA) , CCCB Barcelona , the Chocolate Museum, Barcelona Botanic Gardens, Pedralbes Monastery , Cosmo Caixa Science Museum, Caixa Forum, El Born Cultural Centre , Montjuïc Castle, MOCO Museum Barcelona and the Antoni Tàpies Foundation .

The Barcelona Card includes unlimited travel on the metro, TMB buses, trams and commuter trains (RENFE and FGC) within travel zone one for the duration of the card. This includes free airport transfers on the L9 metro, R2 airport train and bus number 46.

What else is included with the Barcelona Card?

The Barcelona Card also includes a free guide and map.

What isn’t covered by the Barcelona Card?

The list of attractions and tours that the Barcelona Card covers is so extensive that I think it’s worth mentioning the attractions that aren’t included.

Most importantly, the Barcelona Card doesn’t include entry to La Sagrada Familia or Park Güell. Tickets for both attractions can be purchased separately or together as the Gaudi Bundle (more information below).

The Aerobús fast shuttle bus from the airport to the city centre is also not covered by the Barcelona Card.

How does the Barcelona Card Work?

The Barcelona Card is a smart card that can be purchased at official Barcelona Turisme tourist offices in the city centre or the airport.

You can save an extra 10% by purchasing your ticket online. Upon arrival, you can pick up the card, guidebook, and map from one of the tourist offices (more information below).

There are three cards available, all of which are valid at the same attractions and for the same discounts, valid for 72, 96 and 120 hours from the first time you use them.

To use the card, you simply show it at the ticket counter when visiting each of the attractions. In the case of the Picasso Museum , in order to skip the line, you should contact the museum in advance. Likewise, you should reserve Barcelona walking tours at least 24 hours in advance.

The duration of the Barcelona Card is timed from the first time you use it. So, for example, if you purchase a 72-hour Barcelona Card and the first time you use it is to catch the train from the airport to the city centre at 7 pm on a Friday evening, the card can be used right up until 7 pm on Monday evening.

On arrival in Barcelona, you can pick up your Barcelona Card from official Barcelona tourist offices at the following locations (see map below):

Barcelona Card Express is a stripped-down version of the Barcelona card, which is valid for two days. Unlike the Barcelona card, which includes free entry to twenty-six museums, the Barcelona Card Express doesn’t include free entry to any sites, just discounts and unlimited travel on public transport .

If you are only visiting Barcelona for two days and were already thinking about purchasing the Hola Barcelona Travel Card then it might be worth spending a few extra Euros and getting the Barcelona Card Express .

The Go City Barcelona Pass is available in two formats:

Go City Barcelona All-Inclusive

The All-Inclusive Pass is a 2, 3, 4 or 5-day sightseeing pass aimed at people who want to visit as many attractions as possible.

The All-Inclusive format includes free entry at up to 25 of Barcelona’s must-see sites, a free ticket for the Hop On Hop Off Bus Tour, plus a selection of other popular tours and shows*.

In many ways, it’s similar to the Barcelona Card, except that it’s less museum-oriented and includes more of Barcelona’s top attractions for free.

Go City Barcelona Explorer

The Explorer Pass includes admission to 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 attractions in a period of up to thirty days. There’s no need to choose the attractions when you purchase the pass, so you can change your plans as you go along.

*Each Go City Barcelona Pass has a maximum purse value based on the duration of the pass. The pass automatically expires once this value is reached.

How to use the price comparison calculator

As mentioned above, before purchasing your sightseeing pass, you should decide which activities and attractions you are interested in.

Don’t be too ambitious when making plans. Everyone has their own pace, but I suggest that you plan to visit no more than four major attractions per day, plus maybe a show or concert in the evening. Even this may be too rushed for some people.

After that, you should check to see whether any of the museums will be free at some point during your stay (see below). Ideally, you should try to come up with a rough itinerary.

Select Standard Price (Adult) from the list above and tick the checkboxes next to the attractions, activities and tours you plan to visit.

At this point, the price shown in the Sum of Selected Items (Euros) field is the price that you will pay if you purchase your tickets from the ticket window at each of the attractions.

To see how much you would save by purchasing your tickets online (from Barcelona Tourism or other websites), select Online Price (Adult) .

The options public transport pass 48hrs, 72hrs, 96hrs and 120hrs add the cost of a transport pass to your selection (more information below).

You can then compare what you would pay if you purchase a Barcelona Card , Barcelona Card Express or Barcelona Pass by selecting them from the drop-down list.

The price displayed by the calculator doesn’t include the cost of the sightseeing passes. So, for example, if you are thinking of purchasing a 120-hour Barcelona Card, you should select the 120-hour travel pass plus the attractions and tours that you are interested in and add the Sum of Selected Items (Euros) to the price of the Barcelona Card (as shown in the article above).

About the price comparison calculator

The calculator is a work in progress and currently compares the cost of adult tickets at a selection of attractions based on the sights, tours and activities which are covered by the Barcelona card, plus a few popular sites which aren’t included.

If any of the attractions selected aren’t covered by the chosen pass, then the calculator adds the standard ticket price for the attraction (as if you paid for the ticket at the ticket window).

In the future, I plan to expand the range of activities that are included and add child tickets and other sightseeing passes.

I make every effort to ensure that the information on this page is as comprehensive and up-to-date as possible. However, I still recommend that you double-check prices before making a purchase.

Other Discounts Which Are Available in Barcelona

Student discounts.

Students are entitled to discounts at a large number of museums and attractions. However, the discount varies widely; many museums, for example, are free, whereas other attractions offer a discount in the region of 20% to 50%.

In order to qualify, you will need an International Student Identity Card. There’s a full list of available discounts on the ISIC website .

Senior discounts

Seniors (65 years or older) pay a reduced rate at most museums and attractions. Some museums are free for seniors. Check the websites of the places that you are interested in for more information.

In order to qualify, you are required to show a photo ID with your date of birth on it (passport, driving license etc.). Spanish residents who are over 65 are also entitled to discounted fares on public transport.

Disability discounts

Most museums and many other attractions offer discounts for disabled visitors and, in most cases, for one accompanying person. However, the discount varies and, at some sites, is 100%.

Most attractions’ websites state that you need to show a certificate showing that you have at least 65% disability (this is common in Spain and other European countries). If your home country doesn’t issue similar certificates, you should bring whatever card you would use to claim disability discounts at home, such as a transport pass.

Unemployed discounts

Some museums offer discounts for unemployed people. However, this only applies to Spanish residents who are registered unemployed with the INEM (Instituto Nacional de Empleo).

Archaeological Museum (AEC)

Free entry on the last Sunday of every month, April 23rd, May 18, and September 11th.

Free on Saturday afternoons from 3 pm, the first Sunday of every month, May 18, September 11th and September 24th.

Free on Sunday afternoons from 3 pm, February 12th, May 18, and September 24th.

Museu d’Historia de Catalunya

Free on the first Sunday of the month, April 23rd, May 18, September 11th, and September 24th.

Picasso Museum

Free on Thursday evenings from 6 pm to 9:30 pm and the first Sunday of every month, May 18th and September 24th. The museum’s capacity is strictly limited.

Public Transport Tickets and Travel Passes

In addition to discounts or free entry at attractions, many sightseeing passes also include free unlimited public transport or the option of adding a travel pass.

Barcelona City Travel Passes

Even if you don’t plan to visit enough attractions to warrant a full-blown sightseeing pass, you can still reduce transport costs and save time by purchasing a travel pass.

Hola Barcelona Travel Card

The Hola Barcelona Travel Card offers visitors unlimited travel on the metro, TMB buses, trams and commuter trains within travel zone 1, which includes Barcelona and some surrounding towns.

This includes the airport metro and train but not the night bus or Aerobus.

The pass is available for periods of 48, 72, 96 and 120 consecutive hours. The time is counted from the first time you use the ticket, NOT calendar days.

To put it simply, it gives you exactly the same transport options as the Barcelona Card but without the free and discounted entry to attractions, tours, shows, etc…

Purchasing the Hola Barcelona Travel Card

There are two options available when purchasing the Hola Barcelona Travel Card online:

Purchase online from the Barcelona Turisme website and get a 5% discount

• You receive a voucher by email and pick up your travel card at one of the eight official tourist offices in Barcelona (including one at each airport terminal).
• This is a good choice if you plan to take public transport from the airport to your hotel and arrive before the tourist office closes at 8:30 pm.

Purchase your Hola Barcelona Travel Card online from Tiqets

• You receive a voucher with a code, which you can redeem at ticket machines at any metro station, including the stations at both airport terminals.
• This option offers maximum flexibility and is ideal if you plan to take a taxi to your hotel, will be arriving after 8:30 pm or just want to save time and go straight to the train or metro station without stopping off at the tourist office.

Other Barcelona Transport Passes

There are several other Barcelona transport passes available. Although they aren’t specifically aimed at tourists, several of them may be of interest to short-term visitors to Barcelona.

Since 2024, the passes below, except the T-día, are only available with T-mobilitat , Barcelona’s new contactless ticketing system.

If you are only visiting for a few days, I recommend you purchase the cardboard version of the pass, which is available at metro and train stations in Barcelona and adds just 50 cents to the cost of the first pass purchased.

The T-día allows unlimited journeys on the ATM integrated transport system for a period of 24 hours from its first use.

It can be used to travel on the metro, commuter trains (operated by RENFE and FGC), trams, and ATM buses (Not the Aerobus).

The cost of the T-día varies depending on the number of zones you will be travelling in, a one-zone ticket currently costs €10.50.

Tickets can be purchased from vending machines at metro and train stations and at tram stops.

• Unlimited travel on public transport in Barcelona and some surrounding towns (depending on the number of zones purchased).
• Only valid for 24 hours from first use

The T-casual is valid for ten journeys and allows you to transfer between different modes of transport within one journey.

For example, if you catch the train from the airport to Passeig de Gràcia train station and then transfer to the metro for the final stage of the journey to your hotel, this will count as one of the ten journeys.

The T-casual can be used on the metro, commuter trains (operated by RENFE and FGC), TMB buses (including the night buses) and trams. There are different versions available that are valid for 1 or more zones. Barcelona, plus some surrounding towns, are all included in zone 1.

If you change from one mode of transport to another, you have to validate the T-casual again but (as long as you don’t double back on yourself and are within the time limit) it doesn’t get stamped again.

T-casuals can be purchased via the T-mobilitat app at metro stations, train stations and tram stops.

• Just €1.22 per journey (zone 1)
• Valid for travel on the metro, commuter trains, trams, and TMB buses within zone 1, including the train from the airport.
• Not valid for the Airport Metro or the Aerobus
• Only available with T-mobilitat

The T-familiar is similar to the T-casual apart from two important differences:

The T-familiar is only valid for eight journeys.

The T-familiar is a multi-person card, meaning that two or more people who are travelling together can share one card. You must remember to validate the T-familiar once per person. When shared by a family of four, one T-familiar is valid for two journeys. You all must travel together for the entire journey since ticket inspectors sometimes do on-the-spot checks.

• €1.34 per journey (zone 1)
• Valid for travel on metro, commuter trains, trams, and TMB buses within zone 1, including the train from the airport.
• Can be shared between 2 or more people (validate once per person)

The T-usual is valid for thirty consecutive days and allows unlimited travel on the Barcelona metro system, regional trains, trams and buses operated by the TMB.

The T-Casual is unipersonal, and you either have to create an account at the T-mobilitat website or, if you opt for the cardboard version of the T-mobilitat card, introduce your passport number when purchasing.

If you visit Barcelona for three days or more, the T-usual is a good alternative to the Hola Barcelona Travel Pass.

• Unlimited travel on public transport in Barcelona.
• Valid for thirty consecutive days
• Only available with T-mobilitat.

Which Barcelona sightseeing pass or discount card is best?

As I said at the start of this article. Which pass you choose will depend on how long you plan to spend in Barcelona and what you want to do while you are here.

All of the passes listed above can save you money when chosen wisely.

I recommend that you start by deciding which attractions you want to visit and then use the Price Comparison Calculator to compare the sightseeing passes with the cost of buying tickets on the spot or online at the official Barcelona Tourism website .

Depending on your interests, you might even find that you’re better off purchasing individual tickets instead of a discount card.

Thank you so much for this comprehensive information. I am wondering about the BCN Essentials Pass, however, and how it compares to the Barcelona City Pass. I’ve tried to figure it out myself but find doing so daunting. I have used your price comparison chart, but again, don’t see that the BCN Ess. Pass is there to compare.

Do you mean the Barcelona Pass or the Go City Barcelona Pass?

It really depends on which attractions you are interested in seeing, but, off those two, I think that the Go City Barcelona Pass is generally better value at the moment, especially since there is currently a ten percent discount.

I don’t know. There is a pass called the BCN Essentials Pass that is advertised. It may have changed its name to something else! It allows entrance to Park Guell, Sagrada Famlia, and Cassa Batllo as well as Airport transfer and public transport. It may now be the Go City Barcelona Pass????

The Barcelona Essentials Pass still exists, in fact, it’s quite new. I was refering to what you called “The Barcelona City Pass”.

As far as I know, there isn’t a vistors card called the Barcelona City Pass. the nearest names are either the Barcelona Pass or the Go City Barcelona Pass.

Sorry if this seems pedantic, but I don’t to make a recomendation and then find that we were talking about different products.
