Joie Baby Tourist review

Joie Baby Tourist

At a glance:

The Joie Tourist Best Stroller is a quality, lightweight b stroller which you can pack away in a quick one-hand fast fold action, making any trip out with your little one effortless.

How did this product make your life easier?

Kirsty:  There are several features on this stroller that make my life easier as a mum. It is so lightweight and easy to fold and carry, which helps me so much when I'm trying to fold and lift it in and out of the car with my baby in one arm. The stroller is quite compact so I am able to fit it in the car even when I have a boot full of shopping or camping gear, so it is very useful to take on holidays when boot space is limited. There is a handy button that keeps the crotch pad attached to the buckle which is really helpful for me since I usually find that the crotch pads on other pushchairs and car seats are always falling off and going missing. One of the most useful things about this stroller for me is being able to attach my Cybex car seat onto it. This makes my life so much easier when I'm popping in and out of several shops when my daughter has fallen asleep in the car.

Ellie:  This product is amazing for any parent who relies on only one hand! The fact the pram collapses and opens up with ease is such a game-changer and it is so light and easy to pick up. In the past, I have had to put my baby in the car seat first before I can collapse the pram and pack away in the car, but with an unsettled baby this can be really difficult. The tourist means you can keep hold of your baby up until the last minute and then get in the car and go. The shoulder strap is so helpful because it eliminates the awkward pram carry that usually results in bashed legs and trapped fingers. It really is a brilliant pram for making life that bit easier when out and about and you're trying to juggle children and dogs!

Sophie:  I liked the tourist stroller and think it provides value for money. The biggest selling point in my opinion is the quick, one-handed, folding action which means the pram can be easily stored away/ moved around. This would definitely make day to day life much easier. It’s extremely compact when folded, taking up limited space in the car boot. Once folded the strap means the stroller can be easily carried/ moved around. It can also stand in the folded position. Overall, the pram feels of high quality.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

Nikki:  Yes - it lacks features that some of the larger travel systems offer such as larger wheels, larger under storage, larger hood - but for value for money, this pram can do it all if you wanted only one pram. It would also be great as a second pram if used for travel and as a bonus is quite smart and sleek in design and also seems comfy for little ones.

Emily:  It’s a great lightweight pushchair that folds easily. It is beautifully designed and there are some great features such as the deep sunshade and decent storage. The leather handle is very comfortable and it feels spacious without feeling bulky. The pushchair moves smoothly and feels well-made. Overall I would say it is a high-quality pushchair.

Hollie:  I’d recommend it as a cheap solution to a lightweight buggy, however, if the budget would allow I would suggest people opt for something more. I dislike the fact that you move the back of the buggy up and down with a drawstring, I find this to be a very cheap and ineffective way to make a comfy ride for baby. I also found the straps difficult to adjust so Oscar wasn’t as securely fastened as I would have liked.

Would you choose this product to win?

Amie:  I would choose this product over others for the UPF 50+ and water repellent canopy is perfect and saves carrying or using an umbrella or sunshade. It's great not having to remember things as I have enough to remember to take out. It is featherweight and this is what I would need in a stroller and how small and easy it folds.

Pip:  I would perhaps for a summer pram as I think the seat is quite exposed to the wind and in the winter it would be quite cold for the baby and or child. Someone like me who has two dogs and walks every day in rain or shine needs something a lot sturdier and able to be protected from the elements. However as a pram for those rare days that I go out into town, it would be great.

Jenny:  Yes I would actually. At the moment I have the ‘dinosaur’ Cosatto stroller, as I love the fun design, but I would absolutely go for this stroller if I were in need of a new one, as I loved the value for money and the compact fold.

What changes would you make to this product?

Kirsty:  If I could change one thing about the Joie Tourist stroller, I would make it more sturdy and stable so that it doesn't feel like it can topple over. I love that it is really lightweight, but it does mean that it feels like it might tip backwards when it's standing still or sideways when you turn corners. This makes me feel on edge when I am using this stroller with my baby, especially when it feels like my toddler could accidentally knock it over when running past. I would feel much more comfortable with the stroller if it felt more stable on the ground.

Ellie:  I would change the colour of the carrying strap because every time I folded the pram down I struggled to find it due to the fabric all being black. This did sort of defeat the purpose of being able to fold one-handed because it then is fiddly to have to rummage around looking for the strap! Although I appreciate the pram has to be kept quite basic due to its need to be light, I did find the seat quite basic and not particularly comfortable for my daughter. The seat and back are quite hard with minimal padding. Whilst she was absolutely fine in it for a time, it's not the sort of pram I would want her in for a long day. Not only is the seat quite hard, but it also doesn't sit completely upright. I can see how this would be great for a smaller baby, but my 15-month-old couldn't really see what was going on around her. I also found that putting a blanket over her was quite hard because there wasn't really much space to tuck it into, which wouldn't be ideal in the winter.

Nikki:  I would change two things - the size of the hood - or at least the ability to easily attach something to it to block out the sun if needed. The hood is so shallow I'm not sure whether it provides any benefit at all. Secondly, I would make sure that the seat was more upright when in the 'fully upright' position as my toddler likes to sit upright so he can be very nosey!

Charlotte Duck

Hollie Bond and her one-year-old Margot tested out the Joie Tourist stroller to see if it was worthy of its travel-inspired name. In our buying guide to the  best travel strollers , we named this best travel pushchair for taking on a plane because it's stylish, light enough to carry, and easy to fold.

The Joie Tourist stroller is very easy to assemble. ‘I put it together in about five minutes while looking after my busy one-year-old,' said our tester Hollie. 'There are easy-to-follow instructions, but it’s so intuitive you don’t really need them.’ Once assembled, it is a super lightweight pushchair that would be ideal for parents going on holiday with their toddler or wanting something for daily use if they have a small car.

The Joie Tourist has an ‘amazing’ one-handed mechanism to fold it up and down. ‘You can hold your baby or toddler while collapsing and unfolding the pushchair easily,’ added Hollie. It's compact when folded and has a nifty carry handle. Other features include a decent-sized shopping basket, multi-recline positions and an adjustable handle which Hollie - whose husband is tall - particularly appreciated.

While comfortable for the pusher, Hollie struggled with the recline positions and thought the seat a little hard. She also thinks you’d have to invest in a footmuff in winter and a sunshade in summer as the hood doesn’t provide a huge amount of protection. In terms of value, this is a great mid-range option that would suit parents who want a light pushchair that's also compact and easy to get in and out of a car.

The Joie Tourist pushchair, one of the best travel strollers

VIEW AT JOHN LEWIS | £200.00

Stroller weight: 5.92kg | Age Range: Birth to three years  | Price: £200.00

Hollie’s first impression of the Joie Tourist was how light it is. At only 6kg, it’s perfect for taking off on an overseas holiday and you’ll have no worries about lifting it on and off the airport carousel, or in and out of the car boot. As well as its weight, Hollie was impressed by its size. ‘It’s quite a tall buggy (107cm in height), which is a real bonus for our family as my husband is very tall and we’ve struggled in the past to find pushchairs with high enough handles for him to comfortably push,’ she said. ‘The handle is easily adjustable too, so I could put it back to the right height for me very quickly.’

But the standout feature of the Joie Tourist is its brilliant, one-handed folding mechanism, which Hollie described as ‘by far the best I’ve seen on a buggy’. You simply squeeze and slide two buttons on the handle with one hand and the pushchair concertinas down into a three-way fold. To open it out again is just as simple. When it’s folded down, it’s compact enough to fit in a small car’s boot (with space for extra bags) and it has a carry handle so you can move it about when folded down very easily.

Comfort and features

The Joie Tourist uses straps and a buckle to keep children in place. The buckle is easy to click into place and the straps over the shoulder are nice and comfortable thanks to some very soft, spongy pads. The length can still be adjusted easily as the pads have poppers so you can remove them before changing the length of the straps. There’s also the option to have calf support in two positions. ‘As Margot is still quite young and has little legs I used the support in the horizontal position, but it’s good to know I can easily set it down for when she has longer legs,’ said Hollie. The wheels are pretty standard for a travel buggy but if they were any bigger you’d sacrifice how light it is.

One of the features Hollie didn’t like was the shape and design of the seat. The buggy has multi-position-recline options, however, while it’s great that it lies flat for naps, she found that it didn’t go up vertical enough. ‘There’s a simple drawstring to change the seat back position, but, however hard I tried, I could not get the back up straight enough for Margot to be comfortable when she was awake,’ she said. ‘She’s a very inquisitive girl so likes to see what’s going on and so was pulling forward a lot of the time rather than sitting back against the seat.’

Another slight gripe was the seat seemed quite hard and didn’t have particularly deep sides to it, so it isn’t the cosiest option. In terms of storage, the Joie Tourist's basket is average-to-good, but bigger nappy bags and handbags are quite hard to fit through the opening, so you’d want to have several smaller bags with you to make the most of the under-buggy basket.

Value for money

The Joie Tourist costs around £200. ‘There are much cheaper options out there and this feels like a middle of the market sort of price and product to me,’ said Hollie. ‘In terms of how the pushchair looks and feels, I’d say it’s a good mid-range travel option.’ She’d recommend this to busy parents who want a really light pushchair to take on holidays or days out. ‘Anyone who struggles to lift heavy baby products, or who has a small car, will love how light and compact this is and how easy it is to use one-handed,’ she added. It’s a chic-looking stroller, coming in a lovely soft grey, and the adjustable handle is comfy too so ticks the box for style-conscious parents.

Meet the Joie Tourist

The Joie Tourist was introduced in 2019 and it grabbed the prestigious Red Dot award.

This lightweight stroller’s compact fold and fully reclinable seat is ideal for families who are always on the go. Some airlines will allow the stroller as cabin luggage because it barely opens to a width of 47.1 cm.

The fact that the stroller almost folds by itself after being unlocked makes folding easier as well. True to its name, the Tourist makes a great travel companion for everyone, including infants. It’s fully compatible with the Joie Ramble carry cot and car seats. This stroller may also accommodate Maxi-Cosi car seats.

Value for Money

Please note that the Joie Tourist is not available on Amazon.

Some parents heartily endorse the Joie Tourist if you’re seeking for a mid-range, lightweight, user-friendly travel stroller. It may not appear as pricey as some of the other travel strollers on the market. Considering its price and features, it’s a wonderful buy for families who love to travel.

As with any stroller, parents have reported issues with the seat. While it’s roomy, it can be uncomfortable for some kids.

What parents say

“It was a total waste of money because my son disdains the stroller I got for our trip. He can’t sit up straight in it, and he’s so uncomfortable that he sobs when he’s in it. I must now buy another, which is unfortunate.” – G. July 13, 2021, 1 star

“The seat is roomy, but it’s a bit tilted. It makes my child slouched. Even though it is a price tradeoff, it will work for rare use.” – L. April 10, 2021, 3 stars

“Price to performance is excellent. Don’t expect the most opulent and durable stroller for that price, but it’s more than just a basic buggy. As a parent of an older toddler who doesn’t require all the bells and whistles on the move, I found it to be quite useful.” – P. February 27, 2020, 4 stars

Ease of Use

When comparing the Joie Tourist to other prams where a child can sit entirely straight, one disadvantage is that even when fully upright, there still appears to be some recline with the seat. Some parents claim that their child cannot sit up straight in it, hence making it possibly less useful than a pram for lengthy hikes and activities.

It’s simple to tighten the straps and fastening the five-point harness to secure a child in it isn’t at all difficult. But some parents have reported to have experienced so otherwise.

“When the baby is sitting, the backrest cannot be lowered to less than 90 degrees.” – O. December 10, 2021, 4 stars

Portability

The Joie Tourist weighs 6.6 kilograms. It folds up quite easily and simply contracts to a compact size with the press of a button. Kindly note that you must be ready to remove almost everything from it, as anything in the storage compartment stops it from folding completely.

This stroller is so compact when folded that it not only leaves a ton of space in a car’s trunk, but it can also fit in the front or back footwell, giving it even more flexibility.

“We purchased this stroller because my wife must regularly take it upstairs to the second floor. She is pleased because it is light and little for that.” – R. February 26, 2021, 4 stars

“Additionally, this stroller works well for transportation underground without an elevator; all you need to do is fold it up and utilize the carry strap to make transporting your child easier.” – F. September 10, 2021, 4 stars

Maneuverability

Although the Tourist’s front wheels have locking mechanisms that help on difficult terrain, it doesn’t seem as solid on rocky or uneven ground compared to the more durable strollers because its wheels are relatively small.

“We had no issues maneuvering the stroller on rough surfaces and roads because it is incredibly light and durable, fits behind the seat in the car, and is very easy to use.” – O. December 10, 2021, 4 stars

“The stroller is incredibly simple to control. If you don’t want it to swing left or right, simply lock the front wheels, and it will move straight and smoothly, making it easy to control with one hand.” – F. September 10, 2021, 4 stars

Safety and Quality

The Joie Tourist could do well as a backup stroller simply because it isn’t as solid as some of its bigger competitors. Some parents think it isn’t as long-lasting.

Most well-known travel strollers are designed for toddlers up to 4 years old and 22 kg. This stroller is only intended for kids weighing up to 15kg, therefore it could not last as long.

“The stroller gets caught on the smallest incline on the pavement or stone because its front wheels are too shaky.” – D. November 21, 2020, 1 star

“It suffered damage in less than a month. Additionally, the seat does not sit upright, which appears to be uncomfortable.” – D. November 21, 2020, 1 star

Accessorize Your Joie Tourist

This stroller is quite fashionable and chic – the tan leather handle, oyster canopy, and padded grey seat all look great together. It’s a nice change from the numerous black strollers available.

Kindly note that it doesn’t come with a cup holder nor a child tray – these are sold separately and can be bought on online marketplaces.

“But it needs a drink holder! A feature that would allow me to push a stroller while drinking hot coffee with one hand would be ideal.” – L. September 13, 2021, 1 star

Should You Consider the Joie Tourist for Your Family?

Kindly note that the Joie Tourist is not available on Amazon.

The Tourist is a great option for families looking for a compact stroller that can be used everyday and during holidays. It folds compactly and eases into small spaces quite easily.

While its design is simple and not as modern as its counterparts, its price offers good value as it can help to see you through from the early months to toddler life and more.

It’s most suitable for families who are on a budget but want to get a stroller option that’s lightweight but also provides the functionality of a travel system. Its compact fold and featherweight frame could attract families who would like to have a backup stroller for travelling.

Criteria for Evaluation

Criteria for choosing the best upright stroller.

Choosing an appropriate stroller that sits your little one as upright as possible is a personal decision so here are some helpful criteria for picking your next upright stroller.

1. Best Visibility

It goes without saying that your stroller needs to be upright to give your child the best visibility when you’re out on your travels. Whether I’m out shopping or away on vacation, I know it’s important for me that my boys face outwards and are as upright as possible as they love to see what’s going on.

Riley, my youngest loves being out and loves people watching and taking it all in, being upright in his pram keeps him quiet for hours. It was also important for me to keep him upright as he suffers from colic and reflux, and I found keeping him upright really helped him. Generally, children are nosey and want to see everything, therefore, make sure your stroller goes as upright as possible.

2. Adjustability

It’s important that not only does your stroller sit upright but that it’s adjustable, meaning you can change its position and angle. I always look for a stroller with an adjustable backrest, you’ll normally find cords at the back of the seat to change its position. This is great if they get tired, you can simply adjust the straps and lay it flat or tilt it for the perfect position.

3. Versatility

A versatile stroller is always recommended, this allows you to totally change the seating arrangements, so you could have the seat facing outwards or towards you or even laying flat. Not only that, you can build your own travel system which will allow you to change between beds, car seats and stroller seats giving you complete control in any situation or for any occasion.

4. Safety Features

Buying a new stroller is an important decision, therefore you need to get a reliable and safe pram. Always look for safety features especially around the shoulder and waist straps, the material used and the quality. Yes, a cheap stroller may look tempting but it can be poorly made using cheap materials that could break, tear or snap.

5. Comfort and Straps

After safety, I would say that your child’s comfort is next on the priority list. Again, this related to your strollers quality of materials, cheap materials can be irritant and uncomfortable. Make sure your stroller is made from the highest quality materials, there is a padding comfortable seat and ensure the shoulder and waist straps are adjustable and have the necessary amount of padding.

6. Weight and Portability

I would always recommend getting a lightweight stroller which is strong and durable enough to hold my child’s body weight and then some more! This way I know I’ll have a good few years out of it and that I can also attach my baby bags and store any shopping in the strollers bottom storage pouch.

My first pram I bought for Brody my eldest boy was great, however, It was too big and bulky, and was so hard to go out and about. It would take me 15-minutes to get all set-up. So, for me, it’s very important that my stroller is lightweight, portable and easy to use, but at the same time durable and made from high-quality materials.

7. Travel Friendly

We love traveling and taking regular vacations, so for us, it’s important that our stroller is ‘travel-friendly’, by this I mean; its portable, foldable and lightweight. I want something that opens and closes fast and something that’s great for whizzing around the airports or exploring new places. If you’re going on vacation then I would make sure your new stroller meets the criteria above.

8. Value for Money

As I mentioned earlier, sometimes it isn’t always the best idea to get the cheapest stroller you can find. This can backfire, in my opinion, it’s worth paying that bit extra and getting something that will last you. As you might find yourself buying that cheap stroller a couple of times a year when in reality it probably would have been cheaper, in the long run, to buy the slightly more expensive one in the first place.

Find a mid-range stroller that has a good reputation and brand name. They usually come with a years manufacturer warranty and a generally made from the best materials which are made to last. You can, however, grab yourself a bargain but make sure you do your search and always read the reviews.

You can rest assured that I have done mine with my top 10 strollers, they’re all reasonably priced and great quality! Hopefully, this will save you some time picking yours.

Final Thoughts

If you have made it down this far of the review, I hope you have enjoyed our top 10 strollers that sit upright and that you have now found your perfect new stroller. Thanks for reading!

Joie Pact Review

If you’re looking for a Joie Pact review then you’ve come to the right place. Read on to find out more about our thoughts on the Joie Pact lightweight stroller.

Despite being huge buggy fans, we’re still missing one in our arsenal; the compact, travel friendly addition. Fully reclining, lightweight strollers perfect for small trips around town, to leave in the grandparent’s car or, most importantly, to take on holiday. When we were offered the opportunity to review the Joie Pact buggy, I did a little leap for Joie (joy – geddit?!?). Not only do we finally find a pushchair to fill that hole but I have the perfect excuse to book another holiday. Here’s how we got on…

Joie Pact review: If you're looking for a travel stroller, the Joie Pact pushchair is one of the best. We review this light buggy that can be carried as hand luggage and is perfect for newborn babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers. For an in depth stroller review and to help you choose which pushchair will suit your travel needs most, read on.

Introducing The Joie Pact

The Joie Pact stroller is designed as a lightweight stroller with a compact fold design. Created with travel in mind, the Pact weighs in at an impressively light 6kg and folds down to only 52.5 x 56.5 x 24cm. Packed full of functionality, the Pact stroller can be fully reclined to a lay flat position, has a huge hood, a decent sized basket and adjustable leg support. It’s well thought out, easy to fold single-handedly and even includes a rain cover, travel bag and car-seat adaptors as standard. That’s right, this little stroller just became a travel system.

Is The Joie Pact Easy To Assemble?

Arriving in a full-colour but tiny box, the immediate fear is that the Pact will take hours to assemble. Not so, the Joie Pact is just that tiny  when folded. Simply clip the wheels in to the frame and clip in the bumper bar and you’re ready to go. Inside the box was also a rain cover and adaptors to fit Joie car seats (or others, such as Maxi-Cosi).

How Does The Joie Pact Perform?

Out and about, during our Joie Pact review sessions, the stroller performs well. We’ve taken it everywhere with us over the last six weeks; from the beach to the country lanes. The single handed collapse mechanism works smoothly, allowing me to hold my son in one arm and set the buggy up (or put it down) with the other. It’s quick, intuitive and really effective – leaving you with a briefcase sized parcel. The design means you end up with a metal handle to lift it by or a fabric strap to allow you to carry it over your shoulder; ideal for a busy airport.

Our Experience

My son doesn’t look huge in it, unlike some lightweight, travel buggies. The five point harness is small in design but very effective; the shoulder straps stay in place without him being able to wriggle free… a very important factor for a toddler! The seat reclines fully making it suitable from birth or the very rare toddler nap. The recline is controlled by an adjustable strap allowing you a complete range of seat angles. I would say, for us, it doesn’t quite go upright enough. He likes to grip on to the bumper bar and lean forward which can pull the seat forward with him. However, I imagine a more upright back would require a bulkier design, so on balance, it’s totally worth it.

Let’s face it, basket size can make or break your love for any pushchair. The basket on the Joie Pact is surprisingly roomy for a lightweight stroller. We managed to fit my handbag, the change bag, a lunch box and some jumpers in there without it overflowing. It’s a little like a tardis! Not only that but it’s easily accessible, even when the seat is reclined, something that’s often overlooked.

Is The Joie Pact Cabin Size & Suitable To Take On Holiday?

The Joie Pact is billed as a holiday essential; it even comes complete with a travel bag to zip it into for air travel. It’s weight and size means it rivals some of the top billed travel buggies at a fraction of the price and the Joie Pact can go in cabin with you most of the time, check your airline’s rules for more detail. In my opinion, the UPF 50+ sun canopy makes it a must. It’s huge, giving great coverage for your little one and even pulls down further to give an ‘eyeshade visor’. No more trying to badly position a wobbly parasol. As someone who spent an entire holiday covering their child in factor 50 suncream, I wish I’d had it then.

Since we’ve had the Pact, we’ve not even looked at our travel system, even in heavy rain. Yes, at times, it feels a little too lightweight, but it’s not until you start to use it that you realise just how good it is. In all honesty, I’m a little amazed by it. It’s quickly become a firm favourite in our household, garnering praise from all manner of family members. As my (rather buggy bored) husband put it, just the other day, ‘it really is quite good, isn’t it?’

Joie describe the Pact as ‘a petite parcel designed and engineered to make every day a holiday’ and they’re not lying. My back and shoulders have never felt more relief at not having to lug our rather hefty travel system in and out of the car. Scrap the expensive massages by the pool, it turns out all I needed was to upgrade to a Pact. All in all, we’re very pleased with the outcome of our Joie Pact review!

Frequently Asked Questions…

Does the joie pact come with a rain cover.

Yes, the Joie Pact comes complete with a rain cover in the box. The rain cover is pretty good – covering the pushchair well whether the seat is full reclined or sat upright.

Where Can I find The Joie Pact Instruction Manual?

Joie have a full listing of manuals on their website, however for ease, the instruction manual can also be found here.

Does The Joie Pact Come With Maxi Cosi Adaptors?

There are Maxi Cosi adapters for their car seats supplied as standard in the box.

What Age Is The Joie Pact Suitable For?

The Joie Pact is suitable from newborn up to three years of age. Or if you want to know the suitable weight range for the Joie Pact, it’s up to 15kg. We’ve tested it personally up to over three years of age with various children and find it best suited to six – nine months upward, once your child can better support their own weight.

Can You Take The Joie Pact On A Plane?

Yes! As mentioned above, you can easily take the Joie Pact on a plane, either in the cabin or in the hold. The Joie Pact comes with a travel bag, making it easy to transport either way. Whilst you’ll need to check your airline’s requirements for cabin baggage, it fits within standard requirements for many major airlines.

Does The Joie Pact Sit Upright?

The Joie Pact can go from lay flat to an upright seating position. However, the Joie Pact’s upright position is still slightly more reclined – in a similar style to other seats where the recline position is managed by adjusting/tightening a pull strap on the back. We haven’t found this to be an issue because the back moves with your child if they want to pull forward slightly. We would still say that the Joie Pact sits upright.

Can You Put A Car Seat On The Joie Pact?

Yes, you can put a car seat on the Joie Pact easily. With the included adaptors you can either attach a Joie car seat or a Maxi Cosi car seat.

What size Is A Folded Joie Pact?

The stroller folds down to 52.5 x 56.5 x 24cm.

Does The Stroller Fully Recline?

Yes, the Pact has a small catch on the back which allows you to lower and raise the back from an upright seated position to fully reclined. This gives you complete flexibility as to how reclined you want your child. Whilst it fully reclines, the upright position isn’t that upright, which can be a frustration to nosy toddlers.

Is This A Joie Pact Or A Pact Lite?

This review refers to a Joie Pact, not the Pact Lite. The Pact Lite is a different model of pushchair available from Joie, the differences are outlined below!

What’s The Difference Between the Joie Pact and the Pact Lite?

The Joie Pact Lite is a slightly newer version of the Joie Pact that’s even more focussed on the lightweight stroller market. The main difference between the Joie Pact and Pact Lite is that the Pact Lite is 0.5kg lighter than the Pact and folds down to 46.8 x 54 x 26cm making it that little bit smaller for cabin requirements. The Pact Lite is also cheaper than the Pact, around £30 less, and comes it brighter fabrics. It still fully reclines, has a large 50+UPF hood and features a 5 point harness but is more geared to holiday usage. If you’re looking for a stroller that’s likely to be used for a lot of travel, the Pact Lite is going to be best suited to you, if it’s for a mix of home and travel, we rate the Pact as slightly better.

If you're looking for a travel stroller, the Joie Pact Lite pushchair is one of the best. We review this light buggy that can be carried as hand luggage and is perfect for newborn babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers. For an in depth stroller review and to help you choose which pushchair will suit your travel needs most, read on.

Thanks for sharing this review, you’ve really sold us on the pushchair, it seems like the perfect lightweight stroller, which is so vital for parents who are active and want to get out and about without carrying too much with them. Though a massage wouldn’t hurt either haha!

I think both might be essential!

Hi can the pact be used without the bumper bar? & does it have a cosy toes / rain cover or can a universal one be used? Would it fit a small 4 year old comfortably? ThNk you

Hi Victoria, It definitely can be used without the bumper bar. I quite often take ours off as otherwise my son likes to put his feet over it (kids, eh?!). It comes complete with a rain cover which provides excellent coverage, even when reclined. It doesn’t have a cosy toes as standard, I haven’t seen a Joie one for it but I’m confident it would fit our standard mothercare one as the straps are all in ‘normal’ places. As for a four year old, I’m afraid I don’t know. My son is 18 months in the photos and there’s loads of room. I would think so but as someone with no experience of four year olds I’d hate to recommend it incorrectly. It could be worth popping in to a local store or ordering one to try out. Let me know how you get on x

Thank you. Definitely top of my to get list! X

Thanks for this review. Do you know if the maxi Cosi cabriofix car seat will fit on using the adapters?

Thank you for this review! We’re traveling to disneyland with a 20 month old in tow and we just wanted to take something small and lightweight so he can nap as and when he wants to. You’ve sold this to us, thank you!

I’m so glad to hear this! It would be absolutely perfect for such a trip, I really wish we’d had ours on our last holiday, it’s just so easy to use and really is packed full of functionality. Have a lovely trip!

Hi great review. I’m currently looking for a replacement travel stroller and ideally wanted something that could be taken as hand luggage would this fold small enough?

Hi Kirsty, it certainly folds up small (it’s large briefcase/small suitcase size) but I’d hate to advise you incorrectly on whether it could or couldn’t be taken as hand luggage as I know it’s dependent on the flight provider themselves. I’d suggest checking with Joie customer service just to be on the safe side! Let me know how you get on. x

Hi, I am wondering how stable the stroller is. If I put a bag on the handle – will it turn over ? Or how much weight it can carry without turn over ?

It’s pretty light, personally I wouldn’t put a bag on the handle unless you added some weight to the underneath as well, otherwise any time you take your little one out, it would fall backward. The basket is a decent size, definitely enough to hold a nappy bag – we popped our backpack one in there with no issues.

Hi there. I really like the look of this stroller but I’m wondering how sturdy the chasis feels and if it would be suitable for daily use, ie the school run and occasional use on the weekend? I’m looking to replace my Hauck travel system which dosen’t feel as solid as it did after using it for a year. I’ve been looking at the Pact and the Cosatto Woosh and I’d like to replace with something which will last my 13 month old till she’s 3-4 and out of a stroller. Thanks.

It’s a great stroller but I’m not sure how it would hold up for everyday use for a couple of years. We live rurally so probably use it once a week plus any traveling as we have an off-road buggy we use for daily walks. I’d say if you’re in a town and just using it on pavements it would probably be fine but I have no experience of long term daily use just yet I’m afraid!

Halo, may i ask whether this stroller can be consider as cabin size stroller? Some say yes, but some say it is better to choose pact lite as it is smaller and cabin size.

You’d need to check with your airline to see if it qualifies as cabin sized as I’d hate to give you the wrong information! It does go down very small but unsure on the specifics. Sorry!

Hii. Do you think this is suitable for newborn? Joie said it is fully flat tilt but I am not sure looking from the picture. Thanks!

Whilst it does go flat, I’d still be a little wary of putting a teeny tiny newborn in there. Mostly because it’s a big space for a tiny person and you’d probably have to strap them in, unlike a carry cot. It does come with car seat adaptors that would allow you to fit a Maxi Cosi or Joie car seat to it and I’d use that for the first 4-6 weeks whilst they’re very small still. We had a carry cot with both children on a different travel system and used it only a handful of times, instead ending up using a baby carrier or the car seat so I wouldn’t say you necessarily need one, it just comes down to how much they’ll be in the buggy. When they’re out of that really squished up stage (probably 6 weeks onward), they’d be fine in this – I’d pop a blanket under them/to the sides just to cushion it a little but obviously make sure you keep an eye that they’re in no danger of pulling it over their face. My little one has been in a flat recline buggy like this since about 6 weeks onward with no issues. x

Hi, is this the PACT or the PACT LITE? Sorry am a bit confused as you refer to it as both!

Sorry, it’s the Pact! I think I must’ve had the Pact Lite on the brain the other day when I was tidying up the post! x

The Joie Pact is an ultra-light, ultra-compact stroller. Thanks to its small dimensions, this stroller is ideal for holidays and travels. It can be folded with just one hand. Once folded, you can carry it either in your hand, on the shoulder or in the carry bag that comes with the stroller. The small wheels with a mild suspension are better on smoother urban surfaces. The Pact comes with a surprisingly spacious and an easily accessible shopping basket. The non-reversible can be reclined sufficiently even for babies that can't sit up independently yet. You can place your newborn into a car seat with adapters as well.

Joie Pact Features & Specifications

The seat unit, the canopy (hood), the bumper bar, the suspension, the handlebar, the carrycot, the car seat, the accessories & extra features, best deals for joie pact, parent reviews of the joie pact, great for us.

  • Lightweight
  • Can be folded and unfolded with one hand
  • Nothing so far

We are very satisfied with the stroller so far. We wanted something quick to fold, small and light - and above all we wanted a travel companion. Great for us 🙏

Unfortunately, it couldn't carry my 9kg daughter much anymore, it wobbled too much

  • Folding with one hand
  • Easy to steer
  • Adjustable handle
  • Large shopping basket
  • Suspension wheels
  • For a heavier child I do not recommend it
  • Small canopy

A perfectly lightweight stroller. It rides easily, has a spacious basket, adjustable handle, it can be reclined. It is amazingly compact. Unfortunately, it couldn't carry my 9kg daughter much anymore, it wobbled too much.

Your questions about the Joie Pact

Hi, do you know what is the upright angle for the Joie Pact please?

The Pact is unfortunately not upright at all, so count on a slanted seat for sure. I don't know the exact angle, but it's about 115-120 degrees when the seat is as upright as it gets.

Joie Commuter Change Travel Cot review

The Commuter Change has everything you could want when travelling with a newborn. Read our in-depth review here.

By Mumsnet HQ | Last updated Jan 18, 2024

joie commuter change travel cot

It's all the extras included with the Commuter Change that makes this one of the best travel cots around. Not only is there a full-size bassinet, which will save your back when reaching down to your child, but the cot also comes with a changing table which handily clips onto the top.

Suitable from: Birth to 15kg

Weight: 12.3kg

Folded dimensions: D79cm x W25cm x H21cm

Dimensions when upright : D106cm x W70.5cm x H80cm

Resale value: £42

First off, the Commuter is a great size. It easily held the seven-month-old who tested it; our tester even said she would have used the Commuter as her standard cot because of how convenient it was. This would have the added advantage of getting your baby used to the cot, so if you're also looking for a standard solution, this might be something to consider.

The changing table was a big hit with our tester’s baby, who was happy to lie back and looked very comfortable. Attaching the changing table is easy, as Joie’s CustomClick attachers mean it simply clicks into place.

The bassinet uses this system too, so all you have to do is clip it onto the frame and put the mattress in. After testing a number of complicated set-ups, it was a relief to find something so straightforward.

The cot itself unfolds by raising the arms until they click, then pushing down in the centre to make it flat. Once up, the cot looks really smart, and we loved the contrast of the pale grey netting with white top rail.

To collapse, there are plastic buttons on the side, making folding quick and easy. Overall we were impressed with the fold; although not groundbreaking, it does what it sets out to do very effectively.

There are several designs to choose from with the Commuter, but all of them look smart and efficient, which is always a good look on something for a baby.

Day-to-day use

The one downside of the Commuter is that the attachments don't fit into the bag that it comes with. If you want to travel with everything, you’ll have to drag it all with you, changer, bassinet and all.

If you use public transport to get around, this would be a real problem, and we’d recommend looking at some more compact options like the Little Life Arc 2 . If you have a car, the Commuter is pretty manageable. If you're planning to leave it at the grandparents’? Ideal.

The Commuter is also fab once your child can sit up – in some ways it's even more convenient, as you don’t have to carry the bassinet around separately. It's great as a playpen, and its larger size gives your child lots of room to crawl, roll over, or throw things (no judgement!).

Manoeuvrability

The Commuter has wheels for easy moving once assembled, a cool feature which we found especially nice on sunny days – depending on your access, you can even wheel the cot out into the garden, although if you want a sun shade or an insect net you'll have to buy them separately (Joie doesn't do its own, but a universal net from Amazon costs around £8 ).

Final verdict?

Overall, we think you'd be hard-pressed to find a travel cot that offers as much as the Commuter Change. Despite its slightly unwieldy method of transport, this cot does everything you could ask for, and its size means it will last for years.
