I know how crucial it is to plan your vacation right from the beginning, so I’ve created this guide to help you determine if a Europe vacation is right for you — and how you can make it the best it can be.

You should be spontaneous, and engage with eating local foods and enjoying all of the activities your destination has to offer to your heart’s desire. It’s worth making friends and socializing, too, especially if it gives you a chance to polish any second language skills. And rather than staying in a sterile hotel room and eating professionally made food, you might find that the homeliness of a modest rental and homemade, authentic food makes your vacation significantly more memorable.

If you’re planning to visit Europe, you should come up with a trip itinerary that minimizes travel and maximizes experience. You won’t be missing out if you’re only able to visit Rome on your first trip — actually, focusing on Rome for your first trip will allow you to have an invigorating trip to London on your second vacation, and you won’t have any issues with diving deep into everything Berlin has to offer on your third, either!

While it’s okay to visit a few cities on your vacation, you should plan beforehand to ensure that you’re spending at least two to three days in each city. While the ticket might say that the flight takes one hour, when you factor in the time it takes to board and unboard the plane, you might find that going on a bus or train is both faster and cheaper. You can even have your rental car delivered at an airport or train station, as long as you’re willing to pay additional fees!

Unfortunately, traveling across the world can be extremely expensive, so your vacation will have to give you a lot of joy to be worth it. In a wonderful place like Europe, though, it isn’t hard to make that happen. Before spending any money, you should try to plan in advance and research your options thoroughly to make sure that your vacation is the best fit for you. 

And if you’re not sure, it’s worth noting that there are plenty of other options on other continents — and even near home — that can provide the same level of fun for a fraction of the price. To determine if a trip to Europe is worth it, you should look in your heart to see what you really value. Best of Ireland & Scotland (Classic, 14 Days)

This was an unforgetable experience. I have traveled extensively throughout Europe when I was younger. I never thought a tour could compare to those experiences. However this tour change my attitude on tours. It was well planed and executed. Our tour director (Greg) was beyond excellent. In fact I think he made the trip the success it was. I would recommend it to any one who likes to see alot, keep on the go, meet people and see sights.

Good itinerary, everything was organized very well. Laura, our tour leader, was on top of things throughout and we had a very good time, covering a lot of places in a relatively short time.

From East to West with London ( 14 days )

Overall the tour was great for seeing as much of Europe as you can in a short space of time. The days were long and full of adventure so if you’re looking for a relaxing holiday then this probably isn’t for you. The tour guides varied throughout the trip with Julio being a standout as a really great guide!! The other guides were also lovely but didn’t always have as much banter with the group

Balkan Kaleidoscope

My wife and I enjoyed the Balkan overview w Penguin Travel. The tour is geared towards independent travelers with good mobility. Most of our fellow travelers were experienced and took advantage of the free time offered. The hotels were 3 star on average and despite some minor issues were clean and comfortable. We are glad we did not drive since the roads traveled were hilly and the speed limits as low as 18mph made the bus drive slowly and there were 16 border crossings. Enjoyed meeting fellow passionate travelers. Overall a good price given what was involved.

The Best of Eastern Europe

Very well planned and organized. CEO was round-the-clock attentive to the trip and each individual. Lodgings were excellent and well selected geographically. My only criticism would be that the name of the tour should be Central and not Eastern Europe. Would definitely recommend Gadventures to fellow travelers.

The Great Adventure

The trip was great. My concern is with the tour guide Antia, one morning she wasted everybody on the buses time by waiting more than 30 minutes for a couple who was always running late. This caused a ripple effect and caused us to miss our boat tour and have to take it an hour later then consequently affecting the rest of our day. Because of this we only had 30 minutes to explore Rouen. And when we arrived to Rouen the stores were all closing. When the bus passengers asked her why they couple couldn’t just meet us at our next stop about 30 minutes away instead of causing all of us to miss our boat trip, she yelled at me on the bus in front of all other passengers. Please make sure you give your tour guides some training in basic manners.

Scenic Scandinavia and its Fjords (14 Days)

We could not have possibly seen all the sights that we did had we planned the tour ourselves. The organization of the itinerary, the efficiency of getting from one location to another, the coordination of the travel, luggage management, and entry to sights was superb. The scenery was breathtaking. Although we took many pictures, they do not do justice of seeing the areas in person. We traveled by coach from city to city and some days required extensive traveling. However, due to the skill of our professional driver and the expertise of our tour guide, the trips did not seem so long or taxing. In particular, our tour guide planned for multiple rest stops along the way and in some cases this involved a local treat that presented opportunities for unique snapshots. In almost all cases, the stops involved opportunities for food and refreshments. All breaks were welcomed. Despite the stops, we were always on time at our destinations or even early in some cases. At each city where we stayed overnight, there was always some scenic pleasure or local flavor to experience. Our tour director was exceptionally knowledgeable of the local areas and customs and always provided us with very helpful information to allow us to navigate around the area without difficulty. In addition, the tour director kept us lively and energized by sharing stories and history of the areas through which we were passing. She was quite skilled at keeping our group together and providing us with a rewarding experience. The only issues we had were with the weather (heat wave in the area with no air conditioning at most of the hotels) which we understand is not under Trafalgar's control. The hotels were OK for the most part, but we would have preferred an American style hotel. We also understand that the meals had to be buffet style, but we did not like the need to have to jostle and nudge to get our meals, especially when competing with other tour groups at the buffet line. With the heat, having to work for the meals was quite taxing and detracted from the experience somewhat. We also understand that the pace of the itinerary was necessary to cover the ground that we did, but a more leisurely pace would have been appreciated. Getting up early every morning and traveling all day and then trying to sleep in hot hotels with no air conditioning was a challenge on some days. But, despite some of these issues, overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the trip and glad we had the experience we did.

Hey guys it was just perfect! Everything! From organization to beautiful places that we visited. I was all around the world but Albania is something else. Wine, sea, food, local people, history, cities - perfection! The places where we stayed were beautiful and clean and tour guide was lovely, talkative and kind. Recommendation to everybody!

Balkan Adventure (14 Days)

An excellent trip with an outstanding tour director (Sarah Rossi) and highly skilled bus driver (Bruno). Plenty of option excursion choices along with very good included tours with knowledgeable local guides. The only down side were two of the hotels - Hotel Marinela, Sofia Bulgaria, and Mercure Belgrade Excelsior - that were in desperate need of refurbishment not to mention functioning air conditioning and bathroom cleaning. Otherwise, great trip.

Best of Italy

Micol was the best! Hope all other Intrepid tour leaders are like Micol. My wife and I enjoyed the tour so much. It was “The Best of Italy” indeed. We have learned so much of Italy so far. Micol was excellent in managing the tour. Micol was very informative and knowledgeable and has answered for every question we asked. It was hectic and very challenging at our age level but Micol was very accommodating and made things manageable. It saved us the hassle in coordinating the accommodation and transportation. Micol organized the option of getting together on lunches, dinners or tapas. It made the group more familiar of each other and comfortable.

Belgrade to Athens or Corfu: Tour of 7 Balkan countries in 14 days

Wonderful tour. Our guides, Marko and Alfred, were amazing. The accommodations were good and the itinerary was paced perfectly. We saw a staggering number of places but it didn’t feel too fast. The Balkans are beautiful and each country looks and feels different from the others. It was definitely worth it.

Having Gustavo Gomes as a Team Leader and combination with Sebastiano as a Coach driver really made a difference in having a memorable experience our first trip in Europe.

This was a fast-paced tour with a lot of places to visit. The itinerary given to us was good and that was followed throughout the trip but except for minor changes in some places. Hotels were good except for the one in Rouen. We had all together 7 guides in this tour. Eric from Vienna to Prague was good and straightforward. Rioni was sweet and gave us detailed information. Tere was very organized and created a WhatsApp group to provide all information to travelers. This was extremely helpful. I recommend all Guides to create WhatsApp group. Sometime the Guide is not as good, which becomes a little bit of hassle. I understand it’s a difficult job to be one, but if you do not like the job you should quit. When the English-speaking people are in minority and the English speaking and Spanish speaking groups are combined information is mostly given in Spanish. Overall, you get the bang for the bucks. Highly recommended for first time travelers to Europe.
