Flaming Lips Add ‘Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots’ Anniversary Shows

The Flaming Lips have added more shows celebrating (a little belatedly) the 20th anniversary of their acclaimed album , Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots .

The new dates include a trio of shows in North Carolina and Tennessee in May, which have been slotted in amongst some previously-announced Yoshimi shows. The Lips also added a slew of summer concerts, starting with a June run that includes stops in Brooklyn, Cleveland, Milwaukee, St. Louis, Omaha, and Tulsa; that’ll be followed by four West Coast shows in August in Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle, and Bonner, Montana. Tickets for the new gigs will go on sale March 3 at 10 a.m. local time, with a pre-sale scheduled for March 2 at 10 a.m. local time. Full details are available on the Flaming Lips’ website .

The Flaming Lips will kick off their busy year on the road tomorrow, Feb. 28, at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver. Before playing their Yoshimi anniversary shows, the band will warm up with their “An Evening With” tour , which will find them playing two-hour sets filled with material from throughout their catalog.

The Flaming Lips Announce Career-Spanning 2023 Tour

The Flaming Lips have announced a career-spanning “An Evening With” 2023 West Coast tour dates. Ticket pre-sale begins Thursday (Dec. 8) and tickets go on sale to the public on Friday. Check  HERE  for details.

The trek begins with a two-night stand in Vancouver, BC, on February 28, and concludes in Santa Barbara, CA, on March 9, at Arlington Theatre. According to a press statement, the upcoming career-spanning headline gigs “find the alternative rock stalwarts mining their catalog for what promises to be an epic and unforgettable two-hour set.”

As previously announced, The Flaming Lips have scheduled shows in London and Washington, DC that will feature their 2002 offering, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots , performed in its entirety. Shows in Chicago and Atlanta have just been confirmed. Click  HERE  for information. 

The news of the shows comes on the heels of the band’s biggest song, “Do You Realize,” earning a gold certification from the RIAA. The song is also included in the band’s Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots .

The band’s Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots 20th anniversary CD box set is available now, with a 5-LP vinyl edition coming on April 14. The 20th-anniversary box set includes B-sides, demos, remixes, radio sessions, two concerts, and other assorted rarities from the era. The CD set includes more than 50 tracks never released and dozens of rare tracks. The LP box set also has 40 tracks never released on vinyl and more than 30 previously unreleased tracks. 

Also,  The Flaming Lips Space Bubble Film is featured exclusively on The Criterion Channel now. This concert documentary, directed by frontman Wayne Coyne and Blake Studdard and filmed in the band’s hometown of Oklahoma City in 2020 ,  chronicles the logistical challenges of putting on a show at the height of the pandemic.

The Flaming Lips Add 2023 Tour Dates: Ticket Presale Code & On-Sale Info

The Flaming Lips have added 2023 tour dates. On tour, the band will be celebrating their 2002 album, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots .

The tour is set to begin with three UK dates in April before a North American leg coast to coast from May into August. New shows have been added in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Utah. According to a post on the band's social media , "The Lips will be performing the album in its entirety plus a career spanning selection of some of their greatest hits and fan favorites."

For the new shows, the general public on-sale begins as early as March 31. Presales for Citi cardholders, Live Nation, LN Mobile App., and local venues / radio begin March 30. Tickets for their previously announced dates are now on sale. Keep in mind, each date is different and details are subject to change.

Amazing! I felt such euphoria just sitting in the audience. SOO MUCH PROPS to them for scoring the chance to preform with an orchestra, it was really worth it. You could never say anything bad about this band because they love all humans. Peace and love forever. The venue staff was amazing!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I wasn't a huge fan of The Flaming Lips prior to going to the show, but I had heard probably 4-5 of their songs. I was really impressed with the show they put on with all of the visual and they sounded great live. I highly recommend going even if you are not a big fan as you will most likely want to hear more from there after the show. If I get a chance to go to another one of their shows in the future I will go.

It was one of the best nights of my life! I cried because the show was so beautiful. Their music sounded so wonderful and the crowd was so alive. Wayne even came into the crowd in a big clear bubble and the crowd carried him around. There was confetti and balloons everywhere, I loved it!

The Flaming Lips Announce ‘An Evening With’ 2023 Tour Dates

The Flaming Lips  will deliver a series of special An Evening With  concerts along the West Coast in 2023. Making stops in British Columbia, Nevada, and California, the concerts will see the psych-rock stalwarts dig deep into their massive catalog.

Beginning with a pair of shows at the  Commodore Ballroom  in Vancouver (2/28, 3/1), The Flaming Lips will return stateside for a show at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe  in Stateline, NV (3/3). Following a performance at Brooklyn Bowl  in Las Vegas (3/4), the band will finish out the run with a trio of California shows in Del Mar (3/6), Anaheim (3/7), and Santa Barbara (3/9).

Following the  An Evening With  shows, The Flaming Lips have a growing number of special Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots   anniversary shows planned. In addition to a set at  Shaky Knees Festival   in Atlanta (5/7), the  Wayne Coyne -fronted project will deliver full-album recreations of the landmark 2002 album in London (4/28), Chicago (5/5), and Washington, D.C. (5/25).

For the  An Evening With  concerts, The Flaming Lips have promised two-hour sets featuring rarities from throughout the band’s songbook in addition to beloved classics. The Flaming Lips Announce Career-Spanning West Coast Tour Dates, 20th-Anniversary Vinyl Reissue of ‘Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots’

Legendary American psychedelic rock band The Flaming Lips have announced their first round of 2023 tour dates. The tour billed as An Evening With 2023, will see the band playing shows featuring career-spanning setlists to celebrate their long and storied history. 

The tour will kick off with a two-night stand at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, B.C., on Feb. 28 & March 1. From there, the band will play shows in Stateline, Nev. and Las Vegas on March 3 and March 4, respectively. The Flaming Lips will then head to California for three performances, in Del Mar on March 6, Anaheim on March 7, before closing out the tour at the Arlington Theatre in Santa Barbara on March 9. In a statement, the band said these gigs will have them “mining (our) catalog for what promises to be an epic and unforgettable two-hour set.”

Aside from the upcoming tour, The Flaming Lips have a multitude of other news to share with their fans. For one, their famous anthem “Do You Realize??” was just certified gold by the RIAA. The single comes from the group’s opus Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots , a sci-fi-themed quasi-concept album released in July 2002. The record, which was a long-anticipated follow-up to 1999’s acclaimed The Soft Bulletin, Yoshimi , was undoubtedly a high-water mark in the band’s nearly 40-year career. Since its release, the 2002 record has been a favorite of casual listeners and devoted fans alike.

To celebrate its 20th anniversary, Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots was recently re-released in an expansive box set that includes B-sides, demos, remixes, radio sessions, and two concerts, among a variety of other assorted rarities from its era. The box set is now available in CD form and on streaming services, with a five LP vinyl package (featuring 56 tracks) set to be released on April 14, 2023. The CD or vinyl box sets can be ordered from the band’s website . 

The band also has The Flaming Lips Space Bubble Film , currently streaming exclusively on The Criterion Channel. The concert film, which takes place in the band’s home base of Oklahoma City, shows the logistical challenges of putting on a show at the height of the pandemic in 2020. The Space Bubble concerts featured both the band and the audience encased in individual, transparent prophylactic “space bubbles” that kept attendees safe and socially distanced yet still connected in a live music environment. 

The Flaming Lips have been busy the past few years, between releasing their latest record, American Head in 2020, touring the world, making concert films and issuing re-releases. Their momentum will surely continue into 2023, kicking off the year with these An Evening With 2023 concerts.

Last month, The Flaming Lips reissued Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots in a 20th-anniversary edition, both digitally and as a 6CD set. A 5LP version of the reissue is out next April.

The 6CD set includes over 50 tracks never released and dozens of rare tracks including B-sides, demos, remixes, radio sessions, two concerts, and other assorted rarities from the era. The LP box set has 40 tracks never released on vinyl and over 30 previously unreleased tracks.

The band will also perform Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots in its entirety at a handful of dates next spring.

The Flaming Lips Add Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots 20th Anniversary Tour Dates

The Flaming Lips have extended their 20th anniversary celebration of their 2002 album, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots , adding several more shows in the United States where they’ll play through their well-known LP in full. See the full schedule with the previously announced Yoshimi dates below.

Last year, the Flaming Lips reissued Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots with B-sides and other previously unreleased material in an expansive CD set, with a 5xLP vinyl set to follow on April 14. New vinyl editions of the band’s EPs Fight Test  and  Ego Tripping at the Gates of Hell arrive on March 17.

After issuing American Head in 2020, the band shared The Soft Bulletin Companion , a collection of alternate tracks and other material recorded between 1997 and 1999. The Flaming Lips are set to perform at Boston Calling alongside Paramore, Foo Fighters, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and more at the end of May.

Where Are The Flaming Lips Touring?

The Flaming Lips will begin their new tour on May 5 at the Salt Shed in Chicago. The new tour will take them through various cities across the U.S. In preparation for their Yoshimi anniversary shows, the band will first embark on their “An Evening With” tour.
