The ambience is very homey with the abundance of greenery. There are "Instagram-worthy" spots within the vicinity. The food is tastes great and are reasonably priced but it could take a while for the food to reach your table (probably they just happen to have a lot of customers at the time).

With my wife and daughter we had a wonderful week in Club Punta Fuego. Il jardineto is vey well located, near by the beach, nice hills sorrounding. Food is just ok although the staff is extremely kind. All in all you can have a good time.

Ambiance was of semi fine dining. There is a dress code but it seems they can’t control it with the throngs of guests coming in. Staff were attentive and polite. Consistent with water refill and changing plates but tend to overdo it at times. We shared on chicken pork adobo , Batangas style , pork sinigang , salad , squid , vegetable and the nasi goreng chicken satay. It was good , expensive but we are prepared for that.

Went here with family in late November. Since we were early for our check in at the Club Punta Fuego, we went to Terrazas first because it's conveniently along the way, if you're coming from Nasugbu . If you're a guest at the Club Punta Fuego, you can enjoy the facilities at Terrazas and vice versa, you just need to secure your bracelet pass at the swim shop. Cafe del Sol is a nice, open-air resto that serves Filipino dishes. The resto is located by the pool and fronting the beach. Since this is the only resto in Terrazas, expect that the food will be pricey but compared to Cafe San Diego in Club Punta Fuego, We enjoyed the food here. The waiters were all nice and really attentive to your needs even with the little kids' safety. As to service speed, we were informed that the meals will be served in 15-20minutes and they were served right on schedule. With the really nice view, the relaxing ambiance, the nice waiters, the welcoming staff including the guards and the good food, our dining experience here in Cafe del Sol was pleasant.

Everything we ordered were delicious. I specifically loved their homemade dips especially their balsalmic dip for their complimentary bread. My kids enjoyed the chicken with their own mushroom dip. The paella was a bit oily but it tasted delectable. The waiters are also knowledgeable of every item on their menu. They are welcoming and shares their thoughts well on which dishes are suitable for kids. Overall, this restaurant deserves to be on the top of the list.

Great brick oven pizza place providing the perfect crusts to pizzas with fresh ingredients! Limited menu with 2, hot flavorful soups, 2 pastas and the rest are pizzas made the way I had them in the Amalfi Coast. Very nice settings with great views of a well tended Koi pond. Wonderful affogato for. Dessert to round off a relaxing meal.

Extremely friendly staff made my experience as a solo traveler quite pleasurable. The staff are very accommodating and the cocktails are great! This is a great place to relax and unwind while listening to the live bands or artists. They close at midnight but you need not worry about transport as the tricycles are readily available at that time to cart you home. Definitely a place to check out if you are in the area.

They had a good spread for their breakfast buffet but had limited menu for lunch and dinner. Price was understandably expensive because of its location. For dinner, we ordered sinigang na seafood which was delicious. However the fresh buco which was served to us on its shell was disappointing. We only got to sip the juice but was unable to scrape the meat because it was hard and clung stubbornly to the shell. The waiter had warned us about it when it was served but we did not know that it was altogether difficult to be removed. So after we had consumed the juice, it was only then that we discovered that the meat could not be eaten at all because it was thick and hard. It could have been advisable if they had not served them at all rather than short change its customers by billing them exorbitantly for something that was not apt to the standard of a restaurant in a high end hotel

Had dinner at the main resto of this resort. Went there before dinner to see the menu. Since, I was billeted in the resort, they offered to take my order in advance so I did not have to wait for my food. They had dinner buffet at 800 pesos but since I had late lunch I just took a set dinner called Nase Gore. Rice is a mixture of spices and finely chopped herbs with grllled beef, chicken and shrimp. Good food and good price as well.

I love everything that I ordered! Make sure to order the salmon pasta. :) it was an ideal pit stop for those about to check in to the beach resorts in Nasugbu . -spacious. My toddler had space to walk around while waiting for the order. -ample parking space -reasonably priced -really tasty food! -friendly and attentive staff -private function area for those looking for a venue -love the interiors. Simple but elegant.

If Batangas were Westeros, Nasugbu would be the North.

It’s vast, the largest municipality in Batangas. It’s wild; much of its territory is still in its natural, undeveloped state, fringing Mt. Palay-Palay National Park and four marine protected areas. And it’s located in, well, the north. In fact, it straddles the northernmost edges of the province.

But the similarities stop there. Nasugbu isn’t a frozen land about to be invaded by wildlings or white walkers. Like much of the country, it is a tropical paradise that has so much to offer to beach-lovers and mountain climbers alike.

WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS GUIDE?

UNDERSTANDING NASUGBU

Nasugbu is no stranger to all things big. It is one of the largest municipalities in Batangas in terms of land area, population, and history. It is also home to Central Azucarera Don Pedro, one of biggest sugar producers in the Philippines. But there’s one more thing that it can boast: it is also big on natural wonders.

Nasugbu’s town center is set in an agricultural plain, but much of the municipality’s terrain is crumpled with mountains, concealing dozens of pristine coves at their feet. Some of these coves are occupied by privately owned exclusive villages and clubs like the Hamilo Coast, Punta Fuego, and Tali Beach Subdivision. In order to get access to these beaches, you would need to know someone inside or book a house or villa. Fortunately, Nasugbu isn’t only for the rich and powerful. Many public beaches harbor fishing settlements and mid-range resorts that are open to anyone.

Here are more things you need to know about Verde Island:

• Language : Tagalog. Dialect: Batangas Tagalog. Although Batanguenos can converse with people from Manila, they use certain words that Manilenos will probably not understand.
• Currency : Philippine peso (PHP, ₱). PHP100 is around USD1.92, EUR 1.56, SGD2.52 (as of April 2018).
• Modes of payment : CASH is preferred! Some establishments in the town center accept credit card payments. If you’re beach-bound, withdraw cash while you’re still in the poblacion area where banks and ATMs are aplenty.
• Connectivity : Both Smart and Globe have strong LTE data signal in the town proper. But both get spotty at best in remote barangays like Calayo and Papaya.
• Electricity Info : 220V, 60Hz. Socket Type A, mostly.

WHERE TO STAY IN NASUGBU

As mentioned earlier, Nasugbu is huge. Where you should stay depends on what attraction in particular you would like to see. For example, if you’d like to see Fortune Island, you can go camping on the island itself or stay in the town proper. If it’s Loren Island, find a resort in Calayo Beach. For Layag-layag Beach, Brgy. Papaya is the most ideal.

There are four main types of accommodations in Nasugbu:

• Resorts or hotels . These are the usual accommodations. You know this.
• Rented houses . Because much of Nasubu’s jagged coast is occupied by exclusive villages, access is restricted to residents and their guests. Most of these properties are just “rest houses,” which means the owners don’t really stay there. Some owners rent them out to tourists, who are then given access to the beaches and features. Some examples of this arrangement are Pico Sands Hotel and Tali Beach Subdivision.
• Homestays . In public beaches like in Calayo and Papaya, there are locals renting out rooms in their homes to tourists for a small fee.
• Camp sites . Beaches like Bituin Cove (Angara Cove), Layag Layag Beach, and Fortune Island all allow campers to pitch tents for a fee.

How to get to nasugbu, manila to nasugbu by public transportation.

If you’re coming from Manila, you can take a bus bound for Nasugbu in two locations:

• DLTBCo Bus Terminal in LRT-Buendia . The terminal is near Gil Puyat LRT Station at the corner of Taft Avenue and Buendia (Gil Puyat Avenue).
• BSC Bus Terminal in EDSA-Taft Pasay . Situated next to the MRT Taft Station (along EDSA), just behind McDonalds. BSC stands for Batangas Starexpress Corporation.

Travel time : 3-4 hours. Fare : around P160

If your destination is Caleruega Chapel or Mt. Batulao, you don’t need to go all the way to the town proper. You can ask to be dropped off near the boundary. Just tell the driver you’re going to Caleruega or Mt. Batulao and they’ll let you know when it’s time to alight.

Manila to Nasugbu by Private Car

If you’re driving from Manila, you can take any of these routes.

• via Cavitex . This is the road less traveled. This will lead you to Antero Soriano Highway across Kawit, Tanza, Naic and Ternate. Then, you’ll be driving through Mt. Palay Palay National Park (near Pico de Loro) and through Kaibiang Tunnel, the longest subterranean road tunnel in the Philippines. You’ll reach Brgy. Papaya in Nasugbu then Brgy. Calayo. If you stay on that road (Nasugbu-Ternate Highway), you’ll eventually reach Nasugbu town proper.
• via Emilio Aguinaldo Highway which passes through Imus, Dasmarinas and Silang.
• via SLEX (South Luzon Expressway) . Take Santa Rosa Exit and stay on Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay Road then on Tagaytay-Nasugbu Road. (You can also take Eton City or Greenfield City Exits to avoid traffic jams in Sta. Rosa.)

For the last two options, you’ll be cutting across Tagaytay and Alfonso until you hit the Batangas-Cavite boundary. You’ll know it’s the border when you hit a fork. The left road will lead to Lemery, the right to Nasugbu. The right road has an arc with a big-ass “Welcome to Nasugbu” sign. You won’t miss it.

Nasugbu Bus Terminal to the Beaches

If you’re taking the bus and your destination is the beach, you can take tricycle. For anywhere near the town center, the fare should not exceed P50. But if you’re going to Brgy. Calayo or Brgy. Papaya, prepare to bleed at least P300. That’s totally justified because they’re very far and can take over 45 minutes.

PLACES TO VISIT IN NASUGBU

Fortune island.

Fortune Island used to be a private island harboring an exclusive luxury resort. But it is difficult and costly to maintain a luxury resort without a ready source of fresh water. One cannot drink luxury. Consequently, it ceased its operations in 2006. One remarkable reminder of its grandeur stands atop the island’s limestone cliff overlooking the sea – Grecian pillars and statues.

Fortune Island is generally rocky with a short stretch of sand. It is now popular among campers and sun worshippers, but it was, for the longest time, a best kept secret among divers. The island is surrounded by shipwreck diving sites including the Dutch warship Mauritius, which sank on December 14, 1600.

Calayo Beach

Calayo Beach is a public beach lined with several houses and budget to mid-range resorts. The sand here isn’t spectacular. It’s fine but it’s closer to light brown than white. But it is the jump off point to better beaches like Pulo Island, Kayraang Cove, and Bituin Cove (see the next 3 items in this list), which are the main reasons why we’re in Calayo in the first place.

If you need to use facilities like restrooms and tables (or even swimming pools), you can stay at a resort as a day tripper. For example, Calayo Green Terraces allows day tours for a fee. Here are the rates:

Pulo Island (Loren Island)

Redundant, I know. Locals call it Pulo-pulo, but tourists know this as Pulo Island or Loren Island. Yep, Loren as in Loren Legarda, who, according to our boatmen, owns this piece of paradise. It’s located just 20 minutes from Calayo Beach. The sand here isn’t white or fine, it’s beige and pebbly at best, but it still offers a fantastic island escape. The island has two beaches and what looks like a sandbar that links to another rocky islet.

Bituin Cove (Angara Cove)

Said to be owned by Sen. Edgardo Angara, this short strip of sand and shingles is a rising camping destination just 20 minutes away from Calayo Beach. You can stay overnight or visit as part of an island hopping tour.

Kayraang Cove

Also in Brgy. Calayo, this pristine stretch is testament to the natural resources that Nasugbu possesses. According to our boatmen, it is now owned by Henry Sy. Boatmen are no longer allowed to dock or moor their boats on the beach but they can still take passengers to the cove provided that they stay in the water. It’s no problem because the water here is so shallow.

This is one of our favorite spots in Nasugbu. Not many people know about this, and it’s not usually part of island hopping tours, so we had the place to ourselves during our visit. Although we didn’t get to set foot on the beach, we were still treated to a quiet, relaxing, alone time in the water.

One of the most well-known attractions in Nasugbu, Tali Beach has long been a summer favorite in Batangas. Aside from the beach, one can also enjoy its cliff-jumping spot. However, because it’s part of a private subdivision, access to it is restricted only to residents, homeowners and their guests. You must know someone inside to get in.

It’s easy to find a way though. You can simply rent a house for a night. I also found an agency that takes visitors on a day tour to the beach.

Layag-layag Beach

Located in Brgy. Papaya, Layag-layag Beach is also starting to get the attention of weekend warriors from Manila. You can go camping and snorkeling here.

Caleruega Chapel

More casually called Caleruega, the Transfiguration Chapel isn’t really historic, but it is one of the most picturesque, making it one of the most popular wedding venues and retreat destinations in the region. Perched on top of a garden-adorned hill, it offers a spectacular view of the Batangan countryside, with Mt. Batulao dominating the landscape.

I haven’t tried climbing this (and given my current figure, I won’t be trying anytime soon, haha). But it’s a favorite among first-time climbers. According to my friend and teammate Asta though, it can be challenging for beginners. One thing is for sure though, this is one heck of a picturesque peak. “Her beauty makes the exhausting climb worth it,” she said.

WHERE TO EAT IN NASUGBU

The streets of Nasugbu Town Proper is flanked with carinderias (low-cost eateries) and fast food options, so it’s not hard at all to find a cheap but filling meal. We even had Angel’s Burger for dinner once, haha. I ordered their Hungarian sausage sandwich, P44. Nag-crave lang bigla.

But if you want to try a place that you can only experience in Nasugbu, I recommend these:

Kainan sa Dalampasigan

First of all, there is no view of the sea. Just getting it out there this early because the name of the place sort of implies that. But despite that, Kainan sa Dalampasigan is still a delightful seafood restaurant. This authentic Batangueno gastronomic paradise lies in a lush garden that allows visitors a quick but memorable moment with nature. It’s an oasis in the middle of a rapidly developing town.

It’s best known for their Bilao sa Dalampasigan , which is a platter of four of their bestsellers: baked tahong (mussels), garlic shrimps, daing na bangus (milkfish), and grilled pork. The first time I was here, an order costs P550. Now, it’s P990. If the serving size or the price is too steep for you, I recommend going for the baked mussels alone. It’s definitely the best among the quartet.

El Cocinero by Chef Arnaldo

This wasn’t part of our original itinerary. We were on the way home when we passed by this place and decided to give it a try. From the outside, it doesn’t look much. But this unassuming restaurant has that proverbial inner beauty. It feels so homey inside. Every corner is IG-worthy.

The menu is predominantly Spanish. The bestseller? Its signature El Cocinero Paella, which is a panful of flavorful risotto topped with chicken, chorizo, mushrooms, fish, crabs, shrimps, squid, and mussels. It can feed up to four hungry travelers. It’s a bit too pricey though. If budget is a concern, try their paella negra instead. At P720, it is the cheapest in their paella roster. Then wash it down with a glass of malunggay juice (moringa juice) mixed with calamansi.

Below are two sample day tour itineraries with breakdown of expenses. The first is for Calayo (Pulo Island, Kayraang Cove and Bituin Cove), and the other for Fortune Island. Please note that both itineraries assume you’re a group of 8 people, splitting the costs of some items and bringing your own food.

MORE TIPS FOR THE POOR TRAVELER

• Leave no trace. Don’t leave trash on the beach.
• Use reef-friendly sunscreen. Choose brands that contain no chemicals that can harm corals.
• The bigger the group, the lower the cost. So invite your friends and form a bigger group.
• Bring a hat, light scarf/wrap or anything that can protect you from the sun.
• Both Calayo and Papaya collect a P20 environmental fee.
• If you have more days, you can also check out the beaches in Calatagan. They’re just an hour away.
• If you’re driving, you can make a stop in Tagaytay on your way back to Manila.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When is the best time to visit nasugbu.

November to May . These months are generally dry, with little rainfall. November sometimes sees Batangas getting hit by typhoons but it’s far from being a regular occurrence. The amihan prevails during this period. Amihan refers to the northeast monsoon.

Note that March-May is widely considered the Philippine summer, which is the period when schools close for a break and the general population go on weekend vacations, so expect more tourists, the majority of which comes from other parts of Batangas.

Personally, I like going to Nasugbu between December and March to avoid both the rain and the crowd.

There were 14 people in my group. Service was slow and they did not served some dishes we ordered. The food was good and so is the same in other places we went to eat on our trip. The staff get very confused when they... are serving a large group. So that happend to us. We still tipped the servers handsomely, but I dont intend to go back and I will say if you are a group of 5 or more.. dont go there to eat. The server can not deal with your orders in an efficient way. More

The place is a nice alternative to restaurants in nearby resorts (Pico, Canyon Cove, etc.). I like that it has lots of plants inside and there’s even a small animal farm in the property. I think the homey ambience is a big draw to this... place. The food is just ok, in my opinion. When we were there, they only had shrimps available for seafood. Price is fairly inexpensive. More

3 years ago, my s'heart brought me to this Resto which he has been bragging about for quite some time. it was my b-day & he said i should eat something different from those i usually eat. So, off we went for a drive to... Nasugbu all d way from Manila. When we arrive at d place, I asked him, "This is it? As in?" Although d place looks cozy, I was thinking, "Does this place serve better Filipino food than those Ive been to?" But when we start eating what he ordered (Crispy Pata, Baked Tahong, Calamares, fresh lumpia & halo2, "OMG!!!! I was speechless for a while. I don't eat baked tahong, but this time, I almost finish our order by myself..... their crispy pata, tender yet crispy.. Their fresh lumpia, superb taste including the wrapper . To top it all, their halo halo is d best, Yummy!!!!. U get to mix d milk & sugar by yourself + you can even request for extra ice, extra milk & extra sugar.....saan ka pa? Since then, we keep going back esp. during holidays. For 3 years now, Ive been spending my birthday lunch at Dalampasigan..... I guess, it gets even better through the years...... More

Im typing this as we are waiting our order, been going 1 hour and 45 mins... Finally got our food at exactly 2:00 hours waiting Yes. Ambiance is fine kinda reminds you if a big rustic dining hall. But service is poor. You need to... order by yourself and give your order to the cashier. When food arrived its all cold... this is where it puzzles me been waiting for 2 hours and food is cold... What? Food was average tasting. And service is poor consistent with other reviewers. Considering we arrived at the tailend lunch in which the resto is almost 3/4 full, wait times can be long but not 2 hours we couldve gone to Tags already order and finish eating instead of waiting. But this is a very poorly run resto and avoid at all cost! Not worth all the hype. More

Food and place are good, but just make sure to go to this place with a full stomach. Service is slow and waiters seem tired and disoriented. Ordered our lunch 12 noon, it was served an hour and 15 mins after. Poor customer service.

We went to this restaurant recently (September 11, 2022). We drove 2hrs just to get to this place because I want my parents to experience dining here. Everything was good at first but things went sour when our dessert took unusually long to be served... only to watch the other table who came 30 mins after us to be served the same order way ahead of us. When we asked what happened to our dessert we later found out that they prioritized the other table because they came from the municipal government office. We understood that sometimes restaurants have to prioritize but to be left feeling deprived in a establishment that we expected to serve their customers equally and not have them wait 30 mins for their dessert while showing them deliberately that other customers are more important than them is totally unacceptable. Nothing new as still a relaxing place to dine in but to my surprise the food we order is not as yummy unlike before. Too much dough on the onion rings and calamares we order - sadly it’s a tiny tentacles inside and hardly seen... the squid body. I would suggest to change the old plastic cups as well. I just hope management will take this seriously which I used to promote this place to my friends. More

I think Kainana sa Dalampasigan is the best restaurant in Nasugbo area. We stayed at Canyon Cove Resort and we went there to dine, it's just a few minutes drive from the resort. They have the best baked tahong ever....my 6 yrs old kid love... it, I really recommend this dish when you visit the place. I also love their lechon kawali , breaded chicken and bulalo. We did not try any of the dessert as we are so full already. The ambiance of the place is cozy garden setting, you can feel that you are really in the province. The waitress is also helpful and cheerful.The price of the food isa also reasonable. Thumbs up for Kainan sa Dalampasigan restaurant....I'll be back... More

This place I heard is close to the beach. We went for a working lunch while visiting CADPI. It is a classic place with good food & prompt service. Typical Filipino food with good preparation & plenty of selection. Window's on both the sides with... fans give it enough ventilation. More

Our family spent the last weekend in Tagaytay and decided to travel to Nasugbu in our last day of vacation. Upon arriving in Nasugbu, I tried to check in my mobile web the available authentic Nasugbu restaurants. This restauarant, "Kainan sa Dalampasigan", popped out. I... read a post somewhere that their Bilao meal is a must-order. IT SURE IS NOT!!! It's priced at Php800. So we expected a big serving. Not true. It's only good for 2 and it's only a handful of shrimps and mini-somethings of fish, oyster and pork. They should have just used a small bowl in serving it. Using a bilao is just plain deception. We ordred 2 bilaos, so imagine our double disappointment. I have no complaints though with our other orders like the ampalaya con carne, sinigang na hipon, and adobong kangkong. Just don't order the Bilao! In terms of service, it was terrible. Some of us were already done eating after our vegetable orders were served. We made several follow-ups. In my last follow-up, this waiter (a guy) had the audacity to reply that "I should just wait since other people were ahead of me in their orders." That was plain stupid. Why the hell did they serve all our other orders and kept us waiting for our vegetable orders. Good thing I was with the presence of several elders, otherwise, he would have gotten his fair shake. And another thing, SMILING is not practiced by this resto's employees. All of them seem to be irritated with their jobs. In a nutshell, we paid for Php3,500 for our group of 9 and no one was satisfied nor full since we ended up doing a ration-type eating, largely due to the Bilao fiasco. On our way back to Manila, we all decided to eat in Dampa along Macapagal and we paid for less but had better food, more food, better service, and lots of leftover food. When you're in the Nasugbu area or Tagaytay (1 hour from Tagaytay)... This is my favorite Filipino restaurant! I would always order their Lechon kawale. Their sisig is crispy not wet and oily. All their pancit is good and their pinakbet....They have the best Halo-halo... . The staff are very friendly and courteous. The place is full of plants with unmanicured garden with wild flowers. After a long, tiring road trip, what can be better than a sumptuous meal? That is exactly what we had at Kainan sa Dalampasigan in Nasugbu,Batangas. En route to Pico de Loro, we stopped by this quaint restaurant with beautiful landscaping- a garden full of... exotic plants with colorful blooms, vines with long aerial roots that draped down from the trellis, attractive garden accessories like birdcages and unique planters and surprisingly,an outdoor chapel. The place was full when we arrived so we weren't accommodated immediately, but we didn't get bored because as shutterbugs,we couldn't resist taking pictures of so many beautiful and interesting subjects. After the photo shoot,we rested at the waiting area which was so refreshing, offering a good view of the garden. A lovely indoor garden with man-made falls surrounded by bromeliads and orchids greeted us as we entered the restaurant. Original pages of newspaper/magazine feature articles on the restaurant were framed in bamboo easel stands, as if assuring us that we made the right choice. The interior decor was nice, as if there was a wedding reception because of the white drapes on the ceiling and colorful flowers on the tables. I missed taking pictures of our food, as we were so hungry and couldn't resist the smell of the grilled fish fillet with lemon-butter sauce, crispy pork thigh, "bulalo" (boiled beef w/ vegetables), fresh vegetable rolls, and "pinakbet" (mixed native vegetables w/pork crackling & fermented shrimps paste). I can assure you though, the food was great! More

With the price paid i won't come back and dine again with you for the following reasons: 1. Delayed in service, was never informed that one dish has been out of stock, one member of our family have to re order but he had finished... his meal before his order came. 2. The 900Php bilao of sorted meal is not worth it. 3. On billing additional drinks were added to the bill whuch was mit even ordered. 4. The food servers are not well trained to talk to guests and explain what is in the menu. Thanks More

Upon the advice of one of the hotel staffs, we ventured to the city to fill our gastronomic cravings, and eventually found ourselves very much satisfied with the sumptous food and warm ambiance. All the more reason to come back..

What to do in Nasugbu, Batangas

1. Beach Hop

Nasugbu has abundant gorgeous beaches with crystal blue waters and gold to white sand. Some are available to the public, and some are exclusive in resorts or subdivisions. Rent a bangka or boat to visit some beaches or coves. Canyon Cove, Santelmo Cove, Bituin or Angara Cove, Papaya Cove, and Natipuan Cove are great options..

You can choose where to stop and camp during your travels. Bring snorkel gear, too, as you may see marine life as you enjoy the waters. There are also spots where you can enjoy cliff diving. It will indeed be a memorable trip there with your family or friends.

2. Hike Mount Batulao

If you want a break from the waters, you can hike Mount Batulao. It’s an inactive volcano that will give you a breathtaking view of Batangas. If you’re a newbie, you could enjoy climbing this as it’s just a bit of a challenge. It would take 2 – 3 hours to climb the peak, but with friends, time will just past by. Guides are available to help you not get lost.

3. Go to Fortune Island

More than an hour boat ride from Nasugbu mainland is Fortune Island. This was a former luxury resort but stopped its operations for years. Choose between an overnight stay or a day tour. You can read our separate travel guide about Fortune Island , too!

How to get to Nasugbu, Batangas

• There are direct buses from Manila to Nasugbu in Buendia Terminal via DLT Bus or BSC Bus Terminal in EDSA-Taft, Pasay
• Travel time is about 3 to 4 hours
• Fare is from PHP 160 – 200
• Stop at Jollibee in Nasugbu or Evercrest (if you want to hike first)
• If you are taking the South Luzon Expressway, you’ll need to take the Sta. Rosa exit until the Batangas-Cavite boundary and turn to the road with a Welcome to Nasugbu, Batangas arc
• For those taking the Emilio Aguinaldo HW, you’ll pass Silang Cavite, when you are near the boundary to Batangas, take the road to Nasugbu
• Those taking the Cavite Express Way, you may take Antero Soriano HW then drive through Kaibiang Tunnel, continue driving until you reach Nasugbu Town

To Mt. Batulao

• You will have to reach Evercrest
• From Evercrest, ride a tricycle to the jump-off point for the trail (PHP 50 – 100)

To Fortune Island

• Ride a tricycle to Brgy. Wawa to Fortune Island Resort (PHP 10 – 20)
• At Fortune Island Resort, pay the fees and rent a boat towards the Island

To the Beaches

• You can ride a tricycle to Calayo beach especially if you want to see the coves
• Rent a boat for Island or cove hopping (PHP 1,000 – 2,5000 per boat)
• If you want to go to Bituin Cove, you can also ride a tricycle to Brgy. Papaya and ride a boat from there (PHP 300 – 500)

Travel Tips to Nasugbu, Batangas

• Prepare proper outfit especially for a trekking adventure
• There aren’t ATMs available on the coves, island, or mountains; prepare cash beforehand
• Buy lots of water for your activities
• You can buy food beforehand as restaurants may be limited in the area
• Most places are available for tent pitching
• It’s better doing this with a group for more fun and lesser cost
• Take nothing but memories, leave nothing but footsteps

Papaya Island: Budget-Friendly Beach Escapade in Nasugbu, Batangas

Batangas is our go-to place for budget-friendly beach trips. This summer, I’m lucky to have discovered a new beach destination! I was invited by Biyaheros Travel and Tours  in one of their day trips to Papaya Island in Nasugbu, Batangas.

Papaya Island is one of the several islands you can visit in Nasugbu, Batangas. Currently, it’s still an off-radar location, although it’s starting to make a name for itself especially for groups who are looking for easy beach options.

Since we were on a day trip, our van picked us up early in the morning in Manila and we traveled for about 1.5 hour to Nasugbu, Batangas. We got past Kaybiang Tunnel and stopped in the quarry, an area with signages for boat services going to Patungan Island or Papaya Island. We boarded a boat to reach the island.

After 20 minutes, a long shore lined with coconut trees, homey cottages and camping tents greeted us. The beach has a nice green color and reflects the forest growth in the island.

What you have to know about Papaya Island is that it’s a residential island set up with facilities for tourist beach-goers. It’s home to about 50 local families. As such, you can find a variety of accommodation depending on your preferred comfort and budget, as well as sari-sari stores and food stalls.

It’s your typical beach except that it’s less crowded and gives you the feeling of having to set foot on a virgin-ish location.

We had an outdoor cottage where we could leave our bags and rest. There was also an option to rent a closed cottage to secure our things.

We had a quick breakfast and then proceeded to our island hopping tour.

When you’re in Papaya Island, one of the things you shouldn’t miss is island hopping. An island hopping tour typically lasts 3-4 hours. Itinerary may vary, so ask your tour organizer or boatman to confirm what are the places included in the tour.

As for us, we were set to stop on 3 locations.

We passed by several islands, including Mother Elephant Cove and Baby Elephant Cove , which have funny island shapes.

We stopped by Santelmo Cove , which is a marine sanctuary. Locals simply call it fish feeding area. This is a great snorkeling area where you can see giant schools of fish swimming about, giant clams with pearls (if you know how to freedive) and various types of corals. This place is something everyone would enjoy.

We fed the fishes bits of crackers and bread, and they would come at us. It was fun and fascinating to see them swarm up to us. As I said before, in most places feeding is not practiced to prevent the fishes from being reliant on humans, but our guide said that the fishes here are already used to being fed since it was how they were propagated by the government for 2 years.

Santelmo Cove was my favorite in our island hopping trip. Make sure to bring your action camera here for beautiful underwater photos.

Our next stop was Taytayin Cove (in my past visit , it was called a cave), which is a giant arch. Tourists stop over here to swim and cliff jump. Snorkeling sights are mostly non-existent, although it’s possible to see a few corals and fishes in the water.

We headed to Taytayin Beach next. The beach is a private property so we were not allowed to set foot in the shore. As such, we decided to move to another spot which also has a small sandy area and stayed there for a little swim. My companions who were non-swimmers appreciated this break since they could dip in shallow water.

The last place we went to is Mugiw Island (pronounced as bug-yo), which is an optional island hopping activity. Here there are submerged caves where bats live and a cliff where you can take pictures. Cliff diving here is possible but may be dangerous since you’d have to make a big leap to avoid hitting the rocks below.

What I like about Mugiw Island is the route our boat took on the way back. We saw more submerged caves and close-up of cliffs where we could see rocks jutting out of the sediments. It’s actually interesting especially if you’re into unique rock formations.

In previous island hopping tours, Kabibinawan Cove is included in the itinerary but it won’t be from hereon. What I notice is that since some of the places in the island hopping tour are privately owned, the itinerary may change depending on whether outside guests will be allowed in these properties. Hence, there’s a continuing search for new locations for tourists to enjoy, such as Buguiw Island.

(By the way, I’d already been to these island hopping stops during our recent stay in Bituin Cove , which is about 30-45 minutes away. However, Papaya Island Cove is closer to these islands.)

A beach trip wouldn’t be complete without a boodle fight! As per Ms. Shane, seafood is abundant and cheap in Papaya Island so seafood was also served for us during lunch.

We enjoyed eating salted egg salad, grilled eggplants, pork liempo, crabs and grilled fish (not in the photo). There were slices of sweet watermelon for dessert. The boodle fight was good and it was more than enough for our group, since we had leftovers. I had 3 pieces of crab and, nope, I don’t regret it.

The next hours during our day trip was our free time to stay and explore Papaya Island Cove. I took it as time to eat merienda since there was a stall nearby selling tusok-tusok and halo-halo.

I also tried swimming on the beach. It was low tide so I settled somewhere that’s only up to my knees. There are areas covered with seaweed, but overall it’s still swimmable and even kid-friendly since children can easily navigate through the shallow water.

Overall, what I can say about Papaya Island is that it may not have the blue beach we’re all looking for in Batangas, but it’s a good beach escapade nonetheless. In fact, I would say that Papaya Island has everything you want in a typical beach getaway . It has a decent beach, island hopping and snorkeling activity, various accommodations depending on your budget and more. It also offers fresh seafood which you can enjoy in your meals.

A day trip here is enough for those who’re looking for a quick & affordable beach trip. For snorkelers and freedivers, an overnight stay might be more appropriate since there will be more time for water activities. I actually preferred to have stayed overnight, but unfortunately I had a commitment the following day.

Papaya Island is an ideal option for barkada, family and even team outings.

Papaya Island can be found in Nasugbu, Batangas. Locals also call it Sitio Iba Cove .

From Manila, it will take you 2 hours to reach Papaya Island.

• From Manila, ride a bus (Saint Anthony of Padua or Saulog Transit) en route to Ternate, Cavite. In the town proper, rent a tricycle to the Quarry or Barangay Patungan (P300 one way).
• From the port, ride a boat to Papaya Island (20 minutes).

Boat transfers are advertised in the port, so you don’t need to worry about booking in advance. If you have already reserved an accommodation in Papaya Island, boat transfer may also be included in your package.

For private cars, there are parking spaces in the port. Rate is P100 overnight.

Here are the current rates ( Updated as of 2020 ):

• Boat transfer: P2000 round-trip transfer to Papaya Island. Includes cottage rental. Good up to 4-6 pax.
• Island hopping : P700 (good up to 2 pax)
• Guide fee for trekking to Kabibinawan Cove : P300

You may also rent a boat to Patungan Cove, which is an alternative to Papaya Island. Rate is P1500 (good up to 4-6 pax).

Here are other optional fees:

• Bonfire at night – P100 woodfire rate
• Kabibinawan Cove local guide fee – P30 per head
• Kwebang Kabag (Mugiw Island) – P75 per head
• Snorkel rent – P100
• Recreational activities: billiard, volleyball, videoke – price varies

• Papaya Island does not have a white beach. Regardless, it’s a good choice for families, even with kids.
• There are sari-sari stores in the island.
• There is solar electricity available for overnight stays. During daytime, you may need to rent a generator.
• Another place you might want to visit is Bituin Cove , which is located several minutes away. However, it’s better suited for backpackers since there are no commercial establishments or rooms there. You will need to bring your own tent.
• Masasa Beach is another beach we recommend!
