Duration of Tour: 1.5 hours

For Your Money:

The Sipsmith team will greet you with a Gin tipple as they guide you through a short history of gin. You’ll hear all about how Sipsmith came to be and gain a huge amount of respect and understanding for the Gin boom it triggered. You’ll visit the four and a half stills mainly star gazing at Prudence, Patience and Constance to learn about the intricacies of distilling before sitting down for a tutored tasting of the Sipsmith range.

A word from Gin Foundry:

With their Sipping Service in full swing, Sipsmith have a lot of liqueurs and experimental one off releases where you get to see their creative side, while the “core range” is always worth revisiting as many times as you can - meaning this tour is always going to end up with tasty tipples in your glass no matter what is being served. As Chiswick can be quite a trek for those not based in West London, it might be worth looking at booking onto the tour that they do in partnership with local restaurant, Charlotte’s Bistro. Afterward the tour of the distillery, they will take you on a 10 minute walk (back towards the tube so it’s in the direction everyone wants to go in!) to Charlotte’s Bistro, where you will continue your gin-filled evening with a delicious gin inspired three course supper. When the evening draws to a close you will have your very own 35cl bottle of Sipsmith London Dry Gin to enjoy sipping at home too, making the £85 tag quite good value for money compared to if you did the two separately from one another.

Sipsmith Distillery

An informative and entertaining presentation covering the history of gin in the UK from the eighteenth century to the present. Lots of samples on offer. Excellent value and very enjoyable

Wonderful experience

What an informative and enjoyable experience this was. We have been on a dew Gin distillery tours , however this is by far the best!!

Great talk about the history behind gin and how Sipsmith was founded. Four shots and a little gift. Loved it.

Sipsmith Gin

We had a great time at the Sipsmith Distillery. Our host was very knowlegeable and the gin was lovely.

Sipsmith Gin Distillery Tour

Not so much a Tour but a show and tell. The Gin Distillery is small and so you able to sit at a table in the bar area and see the Distillery area. A really good event lasting about 75 mins with a very knowledgeable host (ess) who explained the history of Gin making and how Sipsmith came about. A warm Gin based punch on arrival and 3 sipping gins throughout the evening. In all a good experience, one I'd recommend.

Sipsmith Gin Distillery Tor and tasting for two

Gin lovers- this is the tour for you

What a great tour. Learned about the history of gin and the distilling process (thanks Henry and Joe) and drank a lot of gin! Left or rather staggered out with a gift box of gin. Thoroughly recommend

Gin-tastic!

This was bought as a leaving present for me and was a very enjoyable couple of hours. Easy to get to once you know where you're going! Gin was lovely and Hosts very informative. Can recommend as a gift.

More of a history lesson than tour

amazing! due to the size of the distillery it's more a sit down and listen to the history of sipsmith rather than walking around, but nonetheless it was entertaining, informative, and gins were delicious! highly recommend!

Sipsmith Gin Distillery Tour and Tasting

What a fantastic afternoon/evening! Fun, friendly, light-hearted, attentive, informative, educational and four expressions to taste and savour. The convivial staff were knowledgeable; passionate about their distillery (and products) and made everyone feel welcome. I think we all went home very happy.

Great experience

Great 2 hours, so worth the money

Who knew Gin could be so interesting

A really great evening spent at the SipSmith Distillery learning about where Gin has come from how it's made and even better a chance to taste the products. TheSipSmith team were brilliant, especially Henry who made every effort to keep up our spirits.

Gin tasting

Throughly enjoyable experience, great to taste different flavoured gins. Tour guide was brilliant with a wealth of knowledge of the history through to how its distilled. Lovely little gift bag at the end.

Great evening

This was bought for us as a Christmas gift and it did not disappoint! The session started with a G&T followed by a really good and interesting talk about the history of the company and the process of making gin. Throughout the session you get to try lots of different craft gins (think we had 4 in total). At the end of the tour you have the opportunity to buy their products but they also give you a gift bag to take away with 2 mini gins

Amazing experience

The tour guide, Henry was extremely knowledgeable and engaging. The gin samples were amazing, excellent value for money, would recommend.

Brilliant Gin Tour!

Me & my boyfriend attended the Sipsmith gin tour last night and both really enjoyed it! The tour guide was very knowledgeable and we loved learning about all the History of the company and gin in general! And of course we loved tasting the different flavoured gins too!

Really good value for money!

Really enjoyable experience. Took my mum who is a big gin fan and she loved hearing all about gin and the company. Provided a welcome drink on arrival and received 3 taster shots throughout. Around 30 people all together I think and the tour is stationary while seated around the bar and the host moves throughout the distillery room. Overall a lovely evening and would love to return for another gin experience.

Loved it! Fascinating, generous and fun

Gin tasting visit

Had a great evening at the sipsmith distillery. The host was superb - really interesting and very knowledgeable and glad that he moved around so we could see at the back. Disappointed that it wasn’t a tour as described. I think that’s misleading and it should be called something else such as a visit. And loved the goody bag.

hilda burke

Fun tour with one of their expert distillers

Wonderful pit stop history of gin tour! The guys were excellent - constantly topping up water jugs and very generous with the gin!

A gin lovers dream

A wonderful experiance of both gin history and tasting. A stunning venue with amazing staff who are passionate about Sipsmith Gin.

Gin Sipping at Sipsmiths

I so enjoyed this experience-a present for my 80th birthday! Met lovely, friendly total strangers also enjoying smelling and sipping. The two young men in charge (Sandy and Harry )were friendly,well-versed,skilful barmen and the time passed so quickly! Appreciated the little gift box at the end. An excellent afternoon! My only small ‘moan’—when it says a short walk from the tube station—it means for a 20 year old -not an 80 year old!

An enjoyable visit to the Sipsmith Distillery

Welcoming, friendly and engaging hosts; interesting and informative providing the history of gin and Sipsmith in particular and plenty of lovely gins to try. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is a gin lover.

Janet Streeter

12th January

Enjoyable evening learning how the brand Sipsmith originated. How the history of gin started. Staff were really friendly and welcoming

Great Gin tasting evening at Sipsmith

Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Generous gin tasting

Really good evening, everyone made us feel really welcome. Nick was a great host and I loved all of the historical context. Sipsmith gin is an all time favourite, good to taste new recipes.

Such a fun experience

Loved going to the Sipsmith distillery. The tour was fun, cosy and full of interesting history. Lots of yummy drinks to taste and had lots of fun. Would definitely recommend.

A really enjoyable experience I never knew their was so much to learn about Gin!! The lady who was guiding us through the history made it fun and very interesting. Would definitely recommend especially if you love Gin. You got to taste so gorgeous flavour Gins just make sure you don’t drive!

Very good evening

Very informative and knowledgable Adam made the presentation very interesting. A very nice touch to be welcomed by a warm G &T on the cold evening

Great afternoon!

Nice craft gins, nice tour guide, interesting history

Great evening with friends

Great evening, learning about gin and how it is made. As well as what tonics to pair with each type of gin.

Sipsmiths Gin Tour

An excellent gin tour, lots of tasting and interesting chat about gin and flavours. Staff informative and friendly

Gin tour and tasting - what’s not to like?!

History of Sipsmith, gin and the distilling industry followed by tasting of 4 different gins. You also leave with a nice little box of gin and the classic swans neck stirrer. All in all a pleasant way to spend a cold Monday evening in January.

Such an interesting tour!

This was a really interesting couple of hours! Great gin samples to taste, awesome history about the company and the history of gin and our group even got to meet & hear from the master distiller, who was so knowledgeable!

Fantastic evening

Thoroughly enjoyed the Sipsmith Gin Distillery Tour and Tasting. It was my first distillery tour. The evening started with a warming gin drink with orange and gingerbread in a perfect Christmas setting with the decorations and Christmas music playing, All tastings were a good double measure and it was fantastic to taste gins that I had never tried. The distillery (although small) was amazing and the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. Would thoroughly recommend to any Gin fan.

Excellent way to spend a couple of hours

Did the Sipsmith tour on a cold wet December evening - and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's not really a tour as the distillery is very small, but more a tasting and talk about the history of gin and the Sipsmiths brand. Nevertheless the talk was amusing and informative and the gin a revelation. I'm not a big gin drinker and would never normally drink neat gin but my eyes were opened with various Sipsmith flavoured gins. Very enjoyable.

No thanks to Virgin Experince Days...

5 our of 5. The tour was good. They gave us gin and a nice little gift at the end. However, I didn't realise that there was so little to gin distilling. The distillery site is so small that we didn't actually move during the tour. We stood in the same place (next to the bar), but it was entertaining and like I already said, they gave us gin! Unlike Virgin the distillery allowed us to use our voucher after the end date. Virgin were terrible about this and want you to pay extra!!! Thieves.

Holly Giddings

Sensational

I bought the gift for my partner as we are both newcomers to the world of gin. The whole tasting experience was superb - the gentleman from sipsmith (who did the presentation) was uplifting, passionate and so knowledgeable. We came away not only knowing the heritage of gin, but how sipsmith has been a huge part of the renaissance. Cannot recommend it enough. So, so good. Well done team sipsmith!

We had such a brilliant time at our experience at the Sipsmith Gin Tour and Tasting. Jesy our guide was interesting, funny and very knowledgable about the company and the gin. Would definitely like to repeat the experience! Thanks to all.

10 Beautiful Gin Distilleries In London That You Can Actually Visit

Georgie Mortimer

We all love drinking gin, but what if you could learn all about your favourite drink in the very place it all started? Yeah, that’s right, Landan town.

It’s been a rollercoaster of a ride for the industry since the very beGINning, but the glorious spirit is making a strong resurgence, and, somewhat surprisingly, there’s actually plenty of distilleries to explore in this neck of the woods. Some are right in the heart of the city, others are, admittedly, a train ride away, but they’re all worth a visit (and, if nothing else, you know you’re guaranteed a damn good G&T).

1. Sipsmith, Chiswick

A post shared by Ashleigh Dunn (@ashleighbdunn) on Jun 23, 2017 at 8:32am PDT

Sipsmith’s distillery was the first copper pot distillery in London for nearly two hundred years. Explore the beautiful Chiswick space and meet their faithful copper stills; Prudence, Patience and Constance. Opt for a weeknight tour for £25, or join the Sipsmith Sipper Club and end your night at Charlotte’s Bistro just around the corner.

83 Cranbrook Road, Chiswick, near Turnham Green station, W4 2LJ

2. City of London Distillery, Blackfriars

A post shared by City of London Distillery (@cityoflondondistillery) on Nov 22, 2016 at 7:54am PST

Amazingly, this microdistillery is right in the heart of the city (hence City of London Distillery, we suppose). It’s open for gin lovers to admire their beautiful copper stills (Jennifer, Clarissa and Elizabeth), learn all about their gin making techniques and discover the rich history of the juniper juice. The tour will end with a cheeky gin tasting so you’ll leave feeling a whole lot more gin telligent… and perhaps a little tipsy. There are various different experiences to be had at the City of London Distillery. Browse and book here.

22-24 Bride Lane, near City Thameslink or Blackfriars stations, EC4Y 8DT

3. Silent Pool, Surrey

A post shared by Silent Pool Gin (@silentpoolgin) on Apr 23, 2017 at 1:17am PDT

Okay so this is technically in Surrey, but it’s worth the journey for the beautiful scenery. They’ll tell you all about what makes Silent Pool so special, and finish you off with a tasting of their full range of gins and gin-based fruit cordials. The best way to get there is to hop on a 30 minute train to Guildford and then jump in an Uber (it might not be London, but they’ve still got Uber). Tours run on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm, Saturdays at 11.30am, 2pm and 4pm and Sundays at 12pm and 2pm. Secure a spot here.

Shere Road, Albury, Surrey, GU5 9BW

4. Portobello Road, Notting Hill

A post shared by The Distillery (@distilleryldn) on Jul 2, 2017 at 6:06am PDT

5 years ago, nestled above a 19th century drinking den on the world famous Portobello Road, four pals decided that, after many years of collecting, drinking and loving gin, they would open The Ginstitute, and they installed a 30L copper pot still called Copernicus the Second. Now, just down the road, they’ve opened a gin hotel. Yeah, that’s right. We’re talking 4 floors dedicated entirely to gin; starting from the basement fitted with a 400 litre gin still, to the top floor with a private dining space and 3 boutique bedrooms overlooking the well-known Portobello Road Market.

5. East London Liquor Company, Bow Wharf

A post shared by Ann Vandenabeele (@annekevda2002) on Jul 25, 2017 at 10:40am PDT

The East London Liquor Company’s heart doesn’t just belong to gin — they also produce some wonderfully handcrafted spirits, including vodka, rum and whisky. However you can grab yourself a ticket to one of their Spirit of Gin tours and tastings, and discover the spirit’s history; from its dark, ruinous past right up to its astonishing revival. Housed in an old glue factory, The Spirit of Gin Tour and Tasting runs on Friday and Saturday afternoons, and lasts approximately 1 ½ hours. Get your tickets here.

Unit GF1, Bow Wharf, 221 Grove Road, E3 5SN

6. Highwayman Gin, Kentish Town

A post shared by Cat Morley (@catmorley) on May 23, 2017 at 3:53pm PDT

Highwayman Gin is a true small-batch London gin, made from a relatively miniature 16-litre still behind a bar in Kentish Town. For that reason, a trip to their distillery is likely to be a little different from the others. Ladies & Gents is a old bog turned boozer, and it’s a pretty good place to spend a penny (or a couple dozen quid). It’s kept the same luminous sign, but you’ll find a very different place at the bottom of those steps than you would have once before. They only make a mere 12 bottles a day, making it a true craft gin.

2 Highgate Road, Kentish Town, NW5 1NR

7. Jensen’s Gin, Bermondsey

A post shared by En Verden af Gin (@enverdenafgin) on Apr 29, 2017 at 2:56am PDT

Jensen’s gin prides itself on being anything but fancy. They only use traditional gin botanicals and it’s distilled in very small batches, all within a converted railway arch in Bermondsey. Arrange a tour via the contact form on their website, or visit on a market day (Saturday 10-4pm or Sunday 11-4pm) for tastings and a coupla G&Ts.

8. Beefeater Distillery, Kennington

A post shared by Stathi Papadopoullos (@efstathiogram) on Jun 27, 2017 at 6:42am PDT

Perhaps the most well-known on this list, Beefeater Gin is closely intertwined with London’s history. Housed in a beautiful Edwardian building, their distillery features original Victorian pot stills and a botanical room where all of the fresh ingredients are kept. Take yourself on a self-guided tour and discover how Beefeater Gin became such a London icon. Or treat yourself to an exclusive VIP experience, including tastings, competitions and G&Ts. Book here.

9. Half Hitch Gin, Camden

A post shared by J o r i e (@yorupi) on Jun 3, 2017 at 7:18am PDT

Believe it or not, Camden used to be the heart of London’s gin distilling. An express train used to export gin daily, all around the world. Nowadays, this is a little-known fact, but Half Hitch are looking to unearth this and put Camden back on the gin map. If you head to their micro-distillery in Camden Market and book onto one of their bespoke gin making classes, the Half Hitch team will teach you all there is to know about the juniper juice, and send you home with 100ml of your very own gin creation, as well as 100ml of Half Hitch. (Is that so we can take it in our hand luggage on a plane? We like the way you think, Half Hitch). You can even bring along your own botanicals, and you can be as adventurous as you like. Get your tickets here.

10. Bombay Sapphire, Hampshire

A post shared by Bombay Sapphire UK (@bombaysapphireuk) on Aug 14, 2016 at 7:09am PDT

It may not be in London, but it is on London Road, so that’s got to count for something, right?

If you fancy a trip further afield, Bombay Sapphire’s distillery is as beautiful as they come. Situated within a Conservation Area and Site of Special Scientific Interest ( ooh er ), this distillery is well worth the 2 hour trip from London. Book onto a guided or self-guided experience, or get involved in a Gin Cocktail Masterclass. Book here.

Superb - Gin Palace Extravaganza

A superb evening. Welcomed with a G & T by very professional and knowledgable hosts. The tour was very interesting, informative and well presented. All tastings were discussed well. Taxis were provided to take us to the Princess Victoria in Hammersmith where an excellent meal with further tastings was laid on. Again our hosts were excellent, mingling well and sharing their knowledge. The P V staff were also very good. We left with our 'goody bags' containing a 35cl bottle of gin each. All in all a superb evening that was incredible value for money. Have already recommended the experience to many friends. The Gin Palace Extravaganza would make an excellent celebratory gift.

This is a really interesting and fascinating place to visit. "Flinty" Sam made us very welcome on arrival with a refreshing G&T before giving an incredibly informative and interesting synopsis of gin and more importantly Sipsmiths. Great sampling to be had just a shame you were unable to purchase the products directly from them. Can't recommend this enough.

I really enjoyed the Sipsmith 'tour'. We started off at the bar with a gin and tonic, then moved over to the stills (not far as it's all in one room), where the woman gave a very informative and fun history of gin and of Sipsmith. We were also given tasters of their gin, sloe gin, vodka and damson vodka. On the way out, we were given a mini bottle of Sipsmith gin to take home. It was definitely worth the £15. I thought it was just the right length (about 1 1/2 hours) so we could go for dinner on Chiswick High St after where there are plenty of restaurants. I had bought this for my husbands birthday and he loved it. There were about 20-25 people on the tour so it isn't personal at all but we still felt welcome and it didn't feel like there were too many people at all.

What ridiculously good value for money. A tour with very informative talk and sampling lots of beautiful gin and vodka followed by a meal with more sampling and a half bottle to tale home. Interesting, informative and fun.

Myself and a fellow gin loving friend went on the Sipsmith distillery last night and we both agreed that it was a fantastic evening! I was recommended the tour by a friend but had no idea what to expect – on paper this is a rather strange evening as it is essentially a talk in a smallish warehouse in a residential road in Chiswick that distils both gin and vodka! However, the reality is a great evening. Approx 40 people gathered in Sipsmiths distillery (a funky warehouse in Chiswick) all with one common interest gin! As you would imagine the talk begins with a G&T, now while a talk about the history of gin and the process it’s made might not sound like the most interesting evening – it is! The lady (so sorry I can’t remember her name – must have been all the booze!) who led the evening was fascinating, informative and fun, in fact everyone in the room was completely captivated by what she had to say. The talk was broken up with tastings on this occasion we tried vodka, gin, Damson Vodka and Sloe Gin. Needless to say they were all top notch! To finish off a perfect evening we even got a small bottle to take home with us! After just 1.5hrs I left completely converted to Sipsmith and finally knew what I was going to say when the barman asked me what gin I wanted!

The Sipsmith Distillery is about a 15minute walk from the Turnham Green station in London, and is essentially a former parking lot building thats been fitted with three gorgeous copper pot stills. The entire facility is essentially one large room, with a small testing lab at one end, a gorgeous bar on the other, with the aforementioned stills in the middle. The evening starts with Sipsmith and Tonics as the guests wait for everyone to arrive, a wonderful way to loosen up the crowd. The host then launched it a history-rich presentation on gin in general at the bar, followed by how Sipsmith was first launched. The tour is then brought to the stills, and the host goes over how Sipsmith is produced. Afterwards is a tasting, going through the Sipsmith vodka, gin, sloe gin, and damson vodka. Despite the large crowd, the tour still felt very intimate, and the presentation was delivered in that charming fashion that only the British can pull off. I had an excellent time, as did my friend, who doesn't even drink very much. A wonderful way to spend an evening before dinner.

AD | Gin Diaries: The Sipsmith Gin Distillery Tour, London

The other week i headed to london for a little adventure with daddy pond. i’d been invited to sipsmith’s gin distillery in chiswick and decided to take him with me on this adventure. it was a gloriously sunny day, which made it even better..

AD – I was gifted my distillery tour tickets and have previously worked with  Sipsmith .

Sipsmith was born in 2009. A venture by two friends, Sam and Fairfax. Both wanted to bring the craft idea to gin, to match the back then boom in craft beer (of course both are continuing). They wanted to create small batch gin in Hammersmith, although there was a slight issue with this. After gin was seen as ‘Mother’s Ruin’ the Gin Act changed that only industrial sized volumes may be distilled to stop bath tub gin production. Sam and Fairfax had to lobby to change this, eventually getting the law changed. They were eventually awarded the first licence to distil gin in small batches, and then Sipsmith was born.

Sipsmith-Gin-and-Tonic

Their signature gin is a typical London Dry gin, everything goes in the still. All the botanicals and a fair amount of citrus make up Sipsmith gin. We got to try this in its classic serve, with Fever Tree Indian tonic water, lots of ice and a slice of lime in the most beautiful high ball glass. Then began our tour and tasting, learning how the gin is crafted and learning how to taste it. We started with trying the London Dry neat, so we could understand the botanicals in it.

Sipsmith-Gin-Tour

Next up was a summery affair, the Lemon Drizzle gin. Oh wow – this is a must try – I believe you can buy it in M&S. We got to sip it with Mediterranean Tonic, which was the perfect accompaniment. A truly summer affair! After this we got to then move on to what ended up being a big hit for Daddy Pond. The Sipsmith Sloe Gin. A wonderfully warming, fruity gin with a bit of a kick. We’ve already decided that this will be our gin of choice for Christmas dinner this year. A bottle sits on my gin shelf in anticipation!

Sipsmith-Gin

Last but not least, we tried a special gin. We found out that the Sipping Society exists. Join and every other month you get 2 bottles of gin to try. These are usually special experimental flavours, from mince pie to lemon drizzle! We got to try the most delicious Strawberries and Cream gin. A bottle of which now sits on my shelf and is waiting on Daddy Pond to come around and pay a visit so we may open it and enjoy it once again!

Distillery-Copper-Stills

Overall the Sipsmith tour was just wonderful, we found out a lot and enjoyed lots of gin, I joined the Sipping Society (thanks Daddy Pond) and had a great time. If you’re looking for something different to do next time you’re in London you should book on, it’s £25pp.
