Dr Stephen was amazing

Dr Stephen was amazing when providing our dog Stiggy with a comfortable send off. He was very understanding and sympathetic of our loss of Stiggy and could not recommend him enough! Stiggy was peaceful and made comfortable which made the send off feel right. Thank you so much Dr Stephen

Everything happened in a timely manner

Everything happened in a timely manner. Thank you

Dr Beshoy was fantastic. He came out on Good Friday and gave a thorough assessment of our dog. He gave us the options we needed and medication. I am so impressed with your service. I hope many people are using you . Our dog is now so much better due to your care. Thanks Pawssum!!!!

Thanks to Dr Lucy!

Thank you so much Dr Lucy 😊 only a minor consult however the general stress for both Mum and Furbaby of travel and wait times at vet tend to turn my somewhat sometimes grumpy boy absolutely feral. Still wasn’t the purrfect patient however sooo much more relaxed and better behaved. Totally recommend if you have grumpy animals who don’t like to be uplifted from their normal surroundings!

Wonderful service

It was with a very heavy heart that it was time to put our little dog to sleep. We rang Pawssum and a lovely vet came within 2 hours. He explained everything that he would do in a peaceful, reassuring way and it was beautifully handled . Milo looked so peaceful and it really helped us to cope. He wrapped her in her favorite blanket and the whole process was handled with a lot of compassion. It was lovely that we could do this at home, it was less traumatic on us and on Milo.

Amazing vet

Dr Pete was amazing. So calm and gentle. Highly recommended.

Thank you for your kindness

Thank you for helping us say goodbye to our cat Sossie. Dr Emma was kind and sensitive–Sossie liked that too–and let me hold him as he passed. It was far less stress for Sossie than if we had had to drive him somewhere. We appreciate how helpful you all were, especially during the public holiday.

Very thankful for the gentle and understanding care given to us for the peaceful passing of our beloved 17 year old dog Belle.

Great service

Dr Stephen was incredibly thorough and helpful. He accurately assessed our cat’s sickness and provided appropriate medication. Within 12 hours she was pretty much back to normal. Thank you for your help

The doctor that came was very nice

The doctor that came was very nice, understanding & friendly to my cat Peddy. Let’s hope the treatment he gave him will help. Pedro hopes so too he wants to be well again. THANK YOU.

Highly recommend

The time had come for our 14yo little man, Teddy, to cross the rainbow bridge. It was a very hard family decision to make. He could hardly walk and had lost control of all bowel and bladder movements. As Teddy was always anxious and scared of going to the vets, we had the vet, Dr. Beshoy, come to us. Dr. Beshoy was very sympathetic, compassionate, professional and showed a lot of empathy to us and our situation. He was very respectful with Teddy at all times, which was of great comfort to us and also to Teddy, who was happy in his own home. The lovely people at Pawssum kept me informed every step of the way either by text, email and even a phone call which I received at 9pm at night to go over Teddy’s plaque for his cremation urn. Teddy has since been returned to us, hand delivered by, Pets to Rest, the cremation service used in this regard. I cannot recommend both of these companies enough. Great service, professionalism and very respectful. Thank you.

At Litchfield Vets, we believe that early socialisation and training for puppies is essential to ensure a well-balanced and happy dog in the future. Introducing puppies to new and challenging stimuli in a safe and clean environment is vital for their behavioural development.

We hold Puppy Pre-School Classes at 7pm on Thursday evenings at the Clinic. Each course runs for 4 weeks, culminating in graduation at the end of the course. Please contact our clinic on 8983 2838 for more information and dates of the next course. Click on link to Puppy Pre-School Flyer

We are pleased to be able to offer you the opportunity of a home visit for routine consultations, vaccinations and

certain treatments.

Visits are usually done between 11am and 3pm on weekdays.

Please contact the clinic 8983 2838 to arrange a suitable time.

At Litchfield Veterinary Hospital we strongly recommend that ALL pets are implanted with a Microchip. The microchip (about the size of a grain of rice) is placed under the skin using a very quick injection. Once implanted, it can be scanned to detect a number which is unique to each animal.

This number, your animal’s details and your contact details are all registered to a National database and the information is kept there for life. The registration fee is included in the cost of placing the Microchip.

Our staff has been specially trained and qualified

Possibly one of the hardest things you will ever have to do is to make the decision to have your beloved pet euthanased. However, as a responsible, caring pet owner, it is sometimes the only choice left to prevent pain and suffering.

At Litchfield Veterinary Hospital we really do understand the connection you have with your pet. The Vets cannot make the decision for you but are here to advise and support you. If you want to talk to a Vet about having your pet put to sleep please call in and make an appointment.

It is best to make an appointment when you know it is time to say goodbye. Let the receptionist know why you are coming so they can try to book you at a quiet time. Alternatively, we are able to visit you at home during week days, if you would prefer.

Before you come, discuss with your family whether you want to cremate your pet or bury them at home. We can organise private cremation for you through Pets Eternal Tranquility, a dedicated pet crematorium in Berrimah. http://www. petset .com.au

Alternatively, all pets left with us are communally buried by the council.

The actual euthanasia is a quiet and painless procedure. It is your personal choice if you would like to stay while the Vet administers the drug, which is a very highly concentrated anaesthetic. As soon as the Vet starts to inject, your pet will become sleepy, the pet’s respiration will deepen as they become unconscious. After just a few seconds all movement will stop. The Vet will listen for your pet’s heart beat to assure you that they have passed away.

Pet Insurance

We encourage the concept of Pet Insurance which removes many of the worries and concerns over the costs of Veterinary Services .

There is no Medicare for animals and Veterinary care can be expensive, especially if your pet develops an on-going problem, needs long-term medication or has a sudden accident; it doesn’t take long for the cost to mount up.

Having Pet Insurance can ease the burden and give you peace of mind. As with all insurance, premiums vary significantly in price but also in what is covered, so when you shop around do read the small print carefully.

Most companies will not provide cover for any pre-existing conditions and there will be an excess to pay on claims you make. Please contact us on 8983 2838 or click on this link for further information and to compare available products https://www.canstar.com.au/pet-insurance/

At Litchfield Vet Hospital we are happy to see injured or orphaned wildlife. Following assessment of the animal and treatment, as required, we work closely with WildCare to organise a suitable carer, if appropriate.

We also stock a range of Marsupial milk replacement powders, feeding bottles and teats for hand rearing orphaned animals.

If you find an injured wild animal, or if you are not sure if it is injured,  please contact Wildcare on 08 8988 6121 or 0408 885 341 for advice or wildlife rescue.

"Dr.Lauren is a fantastic vet! My cat Lucy is the most anxious creature, and doesn't do car rides at all. So Dr.Lauren has always been very accommodating in travelling to see her on many occasions. It's very easy to see that she really cares for the animals she treats and holds herself to a high standard. Pricing is wonderfully refreshing compared to vet clinics. I really couldn't recommend a better mobile vet service to tend to your loved ones needs. "

"Where do i even start by saying this is not only an extraordinary vet but such a beautiful person. she started seeing at 13 years as our baby couldn't travel in a car. Lauren was the most helpful, gentle understanding person and gave my beautiful girl the most she could to make the last years comfortable. She always listened and wasn't about making money and genuinely cared. She made every one feel so comfortable and took so much time. I have been an animal owner all my life, but she is the best by far."

To ensure a thorough examination, we recommend providing a quiet room or a confined area outdoors. For small dogs, having a table or bench available can be incredibly helpful. If you have an anxious cat, we kindly request that you confine them to a carrier cage, the bathroom, or an enclosed room where they feel secure and cannot easily hide.

In order to accommodate any potential traffic or parking delays, we kindly ask for a half-hour window for our arrival. Your understanding is greatly appreciated.

Lastly, for the safety of both your pet and our team, please inform us of any behavior quirks or unique traits your pet may have. This valuable information allows us to tailor our approach accordingly. Thank you for prioritising the well-being and safety of your furry companion.

When the vet arrives

Upon arrival, the veterinarian will promptly reach out to you on the provided contact number to have a friendly conversation and gather your pet's medical history. The vet will conduct a comprehensive house-call vet examination right in the comfort of your home or workplace, delivering expert treatment and providing valuable advice.

To ensure a smooth process, we kindly request payment at the time of the visit. Convenient payment options include debit/credit card or phone tapping, allowing for a hassle-free transaction. For follow-up care, we will schedule subsequent appointments as indicated, ensuring your pet's well-being is closely monitored. If needed, we can also send your pet's visit history to any regular or referral veterinary clinic to ensure comprehensive continuity of care.

The Visiting Vet was founded in December 2012 to provide the highest quality care for your pets at home, in a stress free environment. The Visiting Vet expanded in October 2017 and built a small clinic where surgeries and clinic consults are preformed.

Veterinary care is vital for our pets as they can not tell you what is wrong or where it hurts and they are extremely good at hiding any pain or discomfort. Vet visits are important for the health and long life of your pet so they can stay with you as long as possible. However, many families and pets find visiting a vet clinic to be a stressful and an anxious experience. A stressed pet can use their adrenaline to hide some or all of their symptoms.

Seeing a pet in their home environment can also help our vets get a full picture of things that may be impacting on your pet's health such as, where they sleep, what and how much they eat and what is in their environment. All this information gathered at your home can be useful when dealing with disease, obesity and skin issues.

Mobile veterinary services are ideal for:

Routine Care such as vaccinations and health checks

The Visiting Vet was founded in December 2012 to provide the highest quality care for your pets at home, in a stress free environment.

Veterinary care is vital for our furry friends as they can not tell you what is wrong or where it hurts and they are extremely good at hiding any pain or discomfort. Vet visits are important for the health and long life of your pet so they can stay with us as long as possible. However, many families and pets find visiting a vet clinic to be a stressful and anxious experience. A stressed pet can use their adrenaline to hide some or all of their symptoms.

Seeing a pet in their home environment can also help our vets get a full picture of things that may be impacting on your pet’s health such as, where they sleep, what and how much they eat and what is in their immediate environment. All this information gathered at your home can be useful when dealing with disease, obesity and skin issues.

The Visiting Vet has a sterile surgery room in Werribee, available for those times when it is necessary for pets to attend a clinic. We provide procedures such as dentals, desexings and other surgical requirements. We also offer a pick up and drop off service if needed.

The Visiting Vet knows that for your fur babies there is no place like home.

Meet our team.

Sandy.jpg

Veterinarian/Director

Sandy founded The Visiting Vet in 2012. Too often she was hearing how difficult it was for clients to bring elderly, anxious or sick pets to the clinic so she decided to make it easier for them. Sandy has an interest in alternative medicine and is currently expanding her knowledge by doing a Chinese herbal medicine and small animal acupuncture course.

In October 2017 the surgery room was built in Werribee to expand the services The Visiting Vet could provide for clients and patients. Sandy is working towards getting a full clinic up and running but needs to find the perfect location first.

Sandy is owned by Dizzy, a kelpie x whippet rescue dog (foster fail), Indy, an American Staffy, Little puss, a rescue cat and a rabbit named Willow.

When not at work Sandy enjoys camping, painting, meditation and spending time with her 2 kids and husband.

When not at work, Shelley loves to travel, snow board, read and spend time with family.

Fiona.jpg

Fiona Witham

Dr Fiona has practiced in multiple countries and brings over twenty years' experience to The Visiting Vet team. She will be working part-time on Fridays.

Fiona has a particular interest in small animal dentistry and has achieved membership of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists, by examination in both Small Animal Surgery and Emergency and Critical Care.

She is passionate about supporting the human-animal bond, ensuring quality at all stages of your pet's life, and providing ethical customised veterinary care that best meets your pet's needs and aligns with your values and resources. Dr Fiona is committed to ongoing education and contributes to teaching both new graduates and veterinary students.

Fiona is a pet mum to super sweet guinea pig, Oreo, playful ginger cat, Niko, elderly Griffon, Elmo, and cheeky rescue horse, Sammy.

Maggie.jpg

Maggie Lind

Maggie has just recently graduate from The University of Melbourne, before joining the team at The Visiting Vet. Since the age of 5, Maggie has wanted to work with animals and become a vet. After 10½ years of studying, she reached her goal and graduated as a vet in 2023. Maggie loves working with all animals, large & small and has a passion for surgery and enjoys working up medicine cases. Outside of work, Maggie plays high level netball and spends days at the farm with her animals and keeping fit. Maggie is owned by 7 horses and 6 cats.

Kareena.jpg

Head Vet Nurse

Kareena has had a passion for Veterinary Nursing her whole life and has over 25 years Veterinary Nurse experience with a keen interest in surgery and training Junior Nurses. She thrives on continuing to learn and improve her skills even further and sharing that knowledge with the Junior Nurses and watching them grow.

Kareena is owned by 2 senior Jack Russels, her new addition a Kelpie pup, 2 cats, a rabbit and 2 pet rats.

Emma.jpg

Senior Veterinary Nurse

Emma has loved animals for as long as she can remember. Born into an Irish farming family.  She grew up with animals all around. Advancing welfare is a primary concern for Emma and she is always trying to learn techniques and ways to make the vet clinic a better experience for our patients.

Emma has worked in a specialist clinic, general practice and worked for the University of Melbourne for 10 years, training the vets of the future in anaesthesia.

She is owned by Sheila who is a very feisty little terrier.

Jess.jpg

Jess began her nursing career in small animal clinic in Darwin in 2013. She then moved to Melbourne in 2015 and worked in a larger clinic on the Mornington Peninsula for many years before moving to the West and slotting in to the team at The Visiting Vet in 2023. Jess has a passion for surgery and anaesthetics and loves to help pets feel comforted and safe when in the clinic for a procedure with an extra blankie or a little cuddle. She has a very soft spot for a working breed dog, an ongoing dedication and love of nursing and caring for beloved pets, and is a little obsessed when it comes to keeping things clean and organised! In her spare time she enjoys 4 wheel driving, camping, linedancing, reading, horses and pilates. She is owned at home by two very good boys, Cooper the Blue Heeler and Austin the Boxer.

Alysia.jpg

Alysia has always dreamt of working with animals and after growing up around animals from a young age. After spending 5 years working on her family sheep farm in the Mallee, Alysia moved back to Melbourne and begun studying animal hobby courses, including Cat Psychology and Training before landing a job in a local cattery.

While studying a Dual Certificate in Companion Animal Services and Veterinary Nursing, she was offered her dream position with The Visiting Vet.

Alysia is recently a new Mum and as a self confessed Crazy Cat Lady, her and her husband are owned by 'a few' cats and a Boxer named Ryder.

Emily.jpg

Student Veterinary Nurse

Emily began her veterinary nursing career in 2018 after completing her Certificate II in Animals Studies while working in a cattery. She is currently working towards completing her Certificate IV in Animal Nursing to become fully qualified.

Emily has previously volunteered with GAWS and Edgars Mission and has a strong passion for caring for animals.

She has three beautiful rescue cats who she loves dearly.

Admin.jpg

Jodie has been with us since the surgery room opened in 2017. Her passion for animals goes right back to her early childhood years of bringing home injured birds, stray cats, saving snails in the garden and adoring every animal she came in contact with.

Standing out amongst her five siblings as the strange animal lover, she takes her passion to extremes that her siblings don't quite understand but can appreciate.

Proud mum to her son and daughter that were raised their whole lives around rescue work. From cats, dogs, ferrets and some wildlife every rescue for the past 25 years has been an honour to be a part of and has made her the person she is today.

Jodes is currently owned by two dogs, one cat, two bunnies, two budgies and three ferrets.

When Elon Musk set up Tesla’s factory in China, he made a bet that brought him cheap parts and capable workers — a bet that made him ultrarich and saved his company.

Mara Hvistendahl, an investigative reporter for The Times, explains why, now, that lifeline may have given China the tools to beat Tesla at its own game.

On today’s episode

A car is illuminated in purple light on a stage. To the side, Elon Musk is standing behind a lectern.

Background reading

A pivot to China saved Elon Musk. It also bound him to Beijing .

Mr. Musk helped create the Chinese electric vehicle industry. But he is now facing challenges there as well as scrutiny in the West over his reliance on China.
