”What can we do in Tuscany as a Family?”
Piero and Elena have heard this question over and over again. The solution is a private family tour with an extra eye towards helping family members of all ages find common ground, shared laughter and create brand new treasured memories. Our focus is on taking the family in the great outdoors of Tuscany, out of the city, museums and monuments for a great day of action & excitement.
Kids get excited about racing each other and making the top of the hill, while parents have time, with this “slow form of travel”, to admire a landscape that has inspired artists like Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo. Everyone will find a flavour that suits their palate be it a Chianti Riserva, organic cheeses, baked sweets or a double decker gelato cup.
The itinerary varies according to personal interest, skill level and any special requests. While creating a fun filled ride for the all Family, we focus on making use of low-traffic back roads in quiet tranquil settings, highlighting the beauty of the countryside. Non cycling tour-mates are welcome in our small groups : contact us to learn more .
For those who are concerned about not being in shape, or who haven’t saddled up on two wheels for a while we have an alternative so that they don’t have to sit on the sidelines for this beautiful experience . Ask us about our high-end Electric-bikes!
Contact Piero and Elena with the ages, skill level and any particular interest of your group and they will provide you with a customised itinerary that will be the climax of your holiday together in Tuscany
- Your pick-up and drop-off in Florence/Chianti Area –
- Piero-Elena leading your day.

WHAT OUR GUESTS SAY
An amazing day and memories for a lifetime!
My family and I just returned from our 2 week Italy holiday and can say that our day spent with Piero, Elena and Costa was by far our most amazing experience! My review starts at the beginning…
Fantastic Family bike tour
I have nothing but good things to say about Bike Florence&Tuscany. Four of us did a day trip ride San Gimignano to Siena on November the 2nd. Piero treated us as a private group so we could enjoy the entire day as a family trip! Elena led the group and the ride was fabulous. The roads and scenery were beautiful, colors were typical of Tuscan fall and traffic was light. We always felt safe and Piero did a good job supporting us with the van. The day starts with a good hour for visiting San Gimignano, the so-called Medieval Manhattan. The first part of the ride ends in Monteriggioni, the small, well-preserved medieval village we met biking towards Siena. After a brief stop to see the village the ride continued, ending near Siena. The guys took us to the city entrance by van to avoid us having to face the busy traffic and.. for a little rest before the long walk around Siena. The whole BF&T team was extremely accommodating, kind, and knowledgable. The bikes themselves were top notch. I would recommend Bike Florence&Tuscany to everyone: this was one of the highlights of our whole Italian vacation for my family, who had come to Florence to see me after a long absence! Thank you Piero&Elena for making all this come true!
A perfect day in Tuscany
Buona sera Piero, I just wanted to thank you for a “perfect” day in Tuscany. The whole family enjoyed the biking and wine tasting immensely! The choices of villages, roads, wineries and the fantastic restaurant in Monterrigioni could not have been better. You and your staff, Elena and Simone made everyone feel at ease which enhanced the experience even more…
Best day of our holiday, the only way to see Florence!
We were 2 families (4adults and 5 kids). Piero and Elena (our guides) were perfect! They prepared everything perfectly in advance, created a custom route for family with kids – adjusted the trip based on all of our ability, and overall created a perfect day. We were able to see all of the major sites of Florence without the feeling of fighting crowds, waiting in line…..

At the northernmost point of Italy, and thus on the border with Austria and Switzerland, is Trentino-South Tyrol, as the autonomous region of South Tyrol is officially called. When you arrive, you will feel the warm influence of the Mediterranean climate, especially in the summer months. But what makes south Tyrol so special for cyclists is the almost perfect cycle path that you can get to know on your family cycle tour along the Adige , and the impressive landscape of the Trentino and South Tyrolean Alps. Or try our cycle tour with your little ones away from the enchanting spa town of Merano and in the direction of Lake Garda , where lots of bathing fun and relaxation awaits. The Experience
Italian culture.
Italian culture is steeped in the arts, family, architecture, music, and food. Home of the Roman Empire and a major center of the Renaissance, culture on the Italian peninsula has flourished for centuries. Italy is very diverse, but one of its most peculiar characteristics is the fact that every city, even in the most little, is full of things all concentrated together in a very small space. One finds themselves surrounded by historical buildings, churches, statues, ruins, pieces of marble, shops, bars, bakeries, cars, all stuffed in a few square feet. It’s a very intense, sensory experience.
Italian Food & Wine
For Italians, food isn’t just nourishment, it is life. Family gatherings are frequent and often centered around food and the extended networks of families. Wine residues were found on a large ceramic jar that was stored nearly 6,000 years ago in the caverns of a cult site known as Monte Kronio in Sicily.
Landscape of Italy
There are Alpine peaks and hills that face the sea. Villages perched on mountains. There are plains where corn and wheat, sunflowers and vegetables are grown, there are rivers and lakes, terraces built along the sides of the hills where fruit plants, olive trees or vines are grown.

Testimonials.
I wanted to thank you all for the wonderful self-guided bike tour my wife and I did 2 weeks ago. I loved every second of it. The bikes were incredible and the directions were so easy to follow. The routes were great and the hotels were amazing. We look forward to riding with Cicloposse again next year.
I would like to thank you for a fantastic trip that you organised for Julie and myself in may last year We have been telling everyone how much fun we had so don’t be surprised if you get a few more Australian enquiries Hope you both have a great year
Rick and I just arrived back in the USA and wanted to take a moment to let you know that we had a wonderful Gravel Bike Trip. We thank you for the extraordinary job organizing, responding and planning the tour. The hotels were lovely and everyone was so helpful. Your Bike Trip Handbook was very helpful and will be a treasured souvenir from our trips. We will definitely look into taking another bike tour with your company and have already passed the word on to many of our friends and relatives. Maybe Sardinia! We do not have Instagram but will share our five star rating on sites listed. It was great working with you and I wish you the best with your tours this Summer. Thanks Again.
This was a fabulous experience in every sense – majestic 13th century towns, incredible vistas, wonderful caring guides, amazing farmhouse accomodation, a world class chef, a genuine family with local knowledge and a generous spirit wanting you to feel and live the Tuscan way. We felt like we had the privilege to be brought into their world and didn’t want to leave. The cycling was outstanding and cooking lessons encouraging and informative – I highly recommend you do this!
Beautiful landscape, unique boutique hotels, great food and wonderful biking, basically describes our experience with Bike Tour Sardinia. We went from Alghero to Oristano, exploring the medieval towns and coast. Mauro arranged a relatively seamless and fabulous self-guided adventure, being consistently available, helpful and responsive. We had both e-bikes and standard, but for me, the e-bike added ease and the ability for further exploration and smiles. I highly recommend Bike Tour Sardinia as a way to explore this beautiful island.
Mauro and his excellent crew provided us a most memorable bicycle tour from Alghero to Gergei. He is truly a veteran and arranged excellent hotels, restaurants, food and wine tastings, cooking classes and a week cycling through back roads of gorgeous land and seascapes through this charming island. Delectable antipasti, the most succulent roast pig you’ll ever eat, seafood, lamb and lots of Vermentino were a gourmand’s dream. The level of professionalism could not have been greater. Beyond this, all three of these men were just exceptional people, sensitive to our needs as a group of 15 and very caring when small problems would occur. I cannot recommend this company more highly. Furthermore, Mauro is more than willing to arrange varios trips including self-guided brief or longer tours through much of Italy and nearby islands. The prices are very fair and the experience unforgettable! E un viaggio favoloso!
Thanks Mauro and team. We had an excellent trip. The organisation and attention to detail was beyond expectation. The selection of places we stayed in exceptional. I can highly reccommend Bike Tours Sardinia. Thanks again.
Exceeded expectations, beautiful coastline rides in Sardinia. Good communication from a member of the office staff meant we were confident everything was ready for our trip. Good standard throughout and we enjoyed the accommodation, especially the excellent food! Delicious food throughout at accommodations, lunches provided were superb! Electric bike was brilliant, much more power than the ebike I use at home. Hybrid bike was also good. Our tour leader was lovely; caring, sympathetic, enthusiastic and also a firm and decisive leader. She was very efficient and hard-working and made sure we had everything we needed for a wonderful holiday. She catered for the differing abilities of the group effortlessly and her knowledge and personality made cycling with her an absolute pleasure.
What an opportunity to see the Tuscan countryside in such an intimate way as cycling / mountain biking. How else could we get a guided tour – the best trails, lodging and meals all figured out for us?
When one guest lacked stamina the first day, Skedaddle got him an e-bike and for the rest of the days he did great. When another guest needed stitches a guide took her to the hospital in the van right away. These are examples of good service.

The best single-day bike tour in Italy is, of course, a very subjective matter. Here are some of our top recommendations:
Tuscany Bike & Wine Tour: Immerse yourself in the rolling hills of Tuscany, famed for its vineyards and olive groves. Explore charming villages, savor delicious local food and wine, and enjoy breathtaking scenery. Tuscany bike & wine tours are generally moderate in difficulty and cater to a range of fitness levels.
Cortina d’Ampezzo E-Bike Tour : Discover the beauty of the Dolomites with the assistance of an e-bike. You’ll explore off-the-beaten-path trails, conquer moderate climbs with ease, and witness breathtaking mountain scenery. This tour is ideal for cyclists who want to experience the Dolomites’ beauty without tackling challenging climbs.
Cinque Terre: Manarola to Monterosso al Mare Tour: Experience the famed Cinque Terre coastline on two wheels. Cycle along the cliffside paths overlooking the sparkling Mediterranean Sea, taking in the colorful villages and dramatic landscapes. This route is moderate in difficulty with some climbs and is ideal for cyclists comfortable with moderate inclines and stunning coastal views.

Italy bike tours
Florence · Milan · Naples · Palermo · Pisa · Rome · Turin · Verona
Italy’s timeless allure has long enticed travelers to soak up its cultural riches, picturesque landscapes, and delectable cuisine. There are few countries in the world that can boast quite so many unmissable attractions, with each city and region possessing a character that is distinctly its own. Whether you’re visiting the gondolas in Venice, touring to Pisa’s Leaning Tower, or riding around ancient ruins in Rome, cycling is simply the best way to soak up Italy’s dolce vita.
Discover resplendent Rome, Italy’s ancient capital, on a day tour that takes in the city’s myriad sites. Stop at the Colosseum, Pantheon, and Trevi Fountain on a city tour, or ride along the ancient route of the Appian Way towards the Catacombs and Roman Aqueducts on a family-friendly bike tour. Or, if you’re in Milan, Italy’s second city, prepare to be spellbound by the San Lorenzo Basilica and the ostentatious private gardens of a former Milanese aristocrat on a guided tour. Milan is renowned for the elegance and sophistication of its architecture and inhabitants, and there’s no better way to take notes on effortless Milanese finesse than to cycle its streets.
As the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance, Florence flaunts more than its fair share of fascinating sightseeing opportunities. Nestled in the rolling hills of Tuscany, this picturesque city beckons to be discovered by bicycle tour, with stops at the Palazzo Pitti and Ponte Vecchio. Or, ride out into the Chianti Colli Fiorentini countryside, home to the internationally renowned and eponymous wines. Test your tastebuds against some of Italy’s finest wines and enjoy a light lunch and olive oil tastings - you’ll be hard pressed to find a more Italianate day tour!
Pedal through picture-perfect Pisa, where everything bears the elegance of an ancient, celebrated city. Ride through the wide streets, past elaborately domed churches, before arriving at the city’s perhaps only, and most beloved, imperfection: its Leaning Tower. Travel to the Tuscan coast on two wheels on a day tour from Pisa, cycling past fragrant pine forests and lush hillsides before arriving at the coast, where the River Arno spills serenely into the sea. Other day tour options include routes to Lucca, Lake Massaciuccoli, and San Rossore Park.
Naples is Italy’s third-largest city and its moniker - ‘City of the Sun’ - is reflective of the dazzling richness of its cultural heritage and welcoming warmth of its inhabitants. Ride through romantic piazzas and stop at breathtaking examples of Baroque architecture on a city tour, or, push yourself to pedal up Posillipo Hill for majestic views of Mount Vesuvius.
If you’re cycling in Sicily, Palermo is the island’s capital and largest city and begs to be discovered by bike. Ride slowly through the sunny streets of the Old Town and rest under the shade of the palm trees that line the Royal Palace. Take a Street Food Bike Tour or a Craft Beer Bike Tour to discover for yourself why Sicilian culture prizes the joy of gathering together over a homemade meal quite so highly.
Take a two-wheeled turn around Turin, a city of unrivaled aesthetic stature. A city tour will guide you to a piazza commonly considered the most beautiful in all of Italy and will treat you to superlative views of Superga Hill and the Po River. Visit fair Verona, the setting for the most romantic play of all time: Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Stop at Juliet’s balcony, a Roman amphitheater, and an imposing Gothic Castle on a city tour that takes in the romantic and the Romanesque.
“It is genius. It is talent. It's the masterpieces of art. It's the food, fashion, everything that makes Italy great in the world.”

Italy Bike Tours
Anyone who’s been to Italy and tasted the pasta (or olive oil, or wine, or truffles) will insist that words fail to capture the nuances of flavor. “It’s just different,” they say. If the most treasured souvenir from an Italy vacation is reaching culinary enlightenment, tasting your way through this country reveals that it grows ever bigger with delightful discoveries instead of smaller.
On a bicycle tour, you’re even closer to the land that generously gives forth Piedmontese hazelnuts, Nebbiolo grapes, Sicilian lemons, and Arborio rice. From the snow-capped peaks of the Austrian-influenced Dolomites and the terraced vines of the Cinque Terre to the olive groves of Tuscany and the inviting coast of Puglia, Italy is teeming with unique landscapes, dialects, and culinary traditions. But one thing is universal across these regions: an inherent sense of hospitality rooted in living well and a kind of culinary reverence that every Italian—and every visitor—can appreciate.

We had an amazing trip. Luca and Rikky were both on our tour and they are the owners so everything was carefully thought through. The route, bikes, hotels and meals were all great! I would recommend the trip in a heartbeat. My husband, myself and our 21 year old daughter did the trip.

Bicycling Sardinia - Alghero to Cagliari
Bicycling Sardinia was my first bicycle tour and I am so happy it was with ExperiencePlus Bicycle Tours! Everything was extremely well organized and planned, our guides were knowledgeable and fun, the food was great, and the accommodations were nice and comfortable. They do a great job or providing you with information before you leave, and while on the trip; everyday we were given daily sheets with information about the next day's ride and briefed by our guides about things we might see, places we might stop and about the route itself. They were also easily able to accommodate dietary restrictions and keeping medication cold. I can't imagine seeing Sardinia any other way or with any other company.

The best of Italy! This tour has it all. Great cycling, wonderful guides who really enhance the experience, fantastic food, and best of all, the arrows that allow you to cycle like a local!
Cycling Italy's Alpine Valleys
Our guides! Silvia Cafora Gabriele Monaco Amazing people with big hearts, great sense of humor and ability to make life care-free. We consider them close friends now and will travel with them again if possible! The Hotels- All beautiful. We felt like we always got the best room! Clean, spacious, incredible views, great service. Delicious breakfasts at all (especially Hotel Greif) The bikes- We thought we owned nice bikes and then we rode theirs! They made us feel like super stars and we exceeded our own distance record with ease. Everyday we looked forward to the biking! The Bike Paths- Unbelievable!! The views, the ease of travel, the Bicigrills! We were transported into a fantasy land. Pinch me! The Tours- SellaArte was a big hit with everyone! Trento had an amazing guide named Sabrina. Who knew there was a Roman town under Trento??? I’ve seen it! Glorenza was fascinating. Coira Castle was a delight and our tour guide was great fun! Lasa took our breath away! We visited Otzi with Gabriele. We were very excited to meet the IceMan!! We also squeezed in the Botanical Garden in Moreno. Wow! wow! wow! Comparing the Grappa in Bassano del Grappa was great fun too! The Meals!!! Delicious! Every one of the meals introduced us to Italian/German Culture. Silvia and Gabrielle enhanced each meal by educating us about the local foods. Each restaurant was special in its own way but the one in Bolzano??? Amazing!!! We had the top of the world all to ourselves! I think you have an award winning tour set up in the Italian Alps. We were happy to be your first to try it. I would not change a thing! We are already dreaming about our next trip with you! Thank you for this extra special week!
Luxury Bike Tours in Italy Reviews
This tour exceeded my expectations, on so many levels. The riding was wonderful, the countryside was glorious, the food was outstanding....but the attention to detail, from guides Luca and Rikki, was just phenomenal. If you want to tour Tuscany by bike, in a way that make you feel totally connected to the area, book this trip! It will not disappoint!
Unforgettable and so much more than I imagined! This tour had everything; great cycling route, the best guides, wonderful food, beautiful scenery, rich history, and of course, delicious wine.

Ancient ruins, city tours and cannoli on a family tour of western Sicily
Start in Palermo and head west for a family adventure featuring street food, ancient ruins and a magical night tour of the city.
Italians may flock to Sicily’s soft sands in summer, but this far-flung Mediterranean island is far more than just a beach destination. Families can scale Mount Etna in giant off-road jeep buses, feast on classic Sicilian sweets and delve into archaeology at well-preserved ruin complexes like the Valley of the Temples. Older kids, meanwhile, can satisfy any gangster fascination by exploring mafia heritage in Palermo and seeking out The Godfather filming sites in the quiet mountain villages. And with the island lying closer to Africa than Rome, its southerly climate makes it a great choice for off-season travels around Easter and October.
Palermo by night
To beat the heat of the Sicilian capital in summer, try venturing into town after dusk for a guided night tour , when Palermo’s landmarks are magically illuminated. The walk can take in city highlights such as the medieval Kalsa district, the Arabesque domes of San Giovanni degli Eremiti, the Norman cathedral of Monreale and UNESCO-listed Zisa palace.
Gangster’s paradise
Unpick the island’s deep-rooted connection with the Sicilian Mafia, known locally as Cosa Nostra, at Palermo’s No Mafia Memorial museum . It explains the origins of the crime cartel and the government’s efforts to quash the organisation after the Second World War. If you’ve got more time, there are also Mafia-related tours taking in the eastern villages of Savoca and Forza d’Agro, which were key filming locations for The Godfather — a good bet if you’ve got any movie-mad teens in tow.
Street-food specialities
Sicily’s original thick-crusted pizza is a must try. There’s a topping for every palate so picky eaters are bound to find something they like; the more adventurous should go for the classic, which includes anchovies, herbs and strong cheese on a passata base. For dessert it’s cannoli, deep-fried pastry tubes filled with sweet ricotta, that take centre stage. Arancini — fried risotto balls — are another favourite for a cheap meal on the go. A Palermo street-food tour is a fun way to explore for those whose kids love to try new dishes.
Sicily’s sweet-making centre
With its sloping cobbled streets and crowning castle, Erice — around 70 miles west of Palermo — has a fairytale quality. But in Sicily this town is best known for its almond pastries — especially those made by local pastry chef Maria Grammatico , whose stories have been immortalised in the biography Bitter Almonds, by Mary Taylor Simeti. Follow the sweet scent of powdered sugar down winding lanes to find her old-fashioned bakery and encourage the kids to order belli e brutti — ‘beautiful and ugly’ — a buttery bite-size pastry laced with almonds and lemon.
Archaeology discoveries
Sicily has more than its fair share of ruins and many of the best are in the west of the island. Closest to Palermo is the fifth-century Segesta Archaeological Park , around 47 miles west of the capital, which offers panoramic views from a Hellenic theatre atop Monte Barbaro. But Sicily’s finest ruins can be found at the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento on the southwest coast — a UNESCO World Heritage site with one of the world’s best-preserved Greek temples.
Volcano tours to Mt Etna
The east of the island is famed for its succession of exquisite baroque towns in the south and the cone of Mount Etna on the east coast. Towering 3,329 metres high, Europe’s tallest volcano is also one of Sicily’s seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites — and a family favourite because of how close kids can usually get to the fuming calderas. The trip starts with a cable-car ride up to 2,500 metres, from where 4x4 jeep buses carry travellers higher on guided tours of the lunar-like landscape and smoking volcano craters. Tours are available from Catania, Taormina or Messina, but keep an eye on the local news — Etna last spewed lava as recently as November 2023.
Where to stay
Villa Igiea Restored at the end of the 19th century by famous Italian architect Ernesto Basile and revamped by Rocce Forte Hotels in 2021, the 124-room art nouveau-style Villa Igiea in Palermo is rich in character. It still retains its frescoes, original furniture and decor with a modern twist, all of which are guaranteed to make kids feel like they’ve stepped into a fairytale. Rooms are individually decorated with lovely hardwood floors and luxury marble bathrooms, and it’s located near the port, overlooking an ancient Greek temple.
Verdura Resort Set on more than 500 acres of southwestern Sicilian coastline, the 205-room Verdura Resort offers uninterrupted views of the sea from private balconies or terraces, designed in a fresh and contemporary Sicilian style. The hotel is packed with facilities to make life easy for families, including a 60-metre infinity pool, a handful of clay tennis courts and four restaurants – plus five bars and a massive spa for the adults.
