ITDC – Indian Tourism Development Corporation

Indian Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) is a travel and tourism organization in India, which is responsible for the development and promotion of Indian tourism at domestic as well as international level. It helps in the promotion and development of tourism.

In 1996, the government decided to merge three public sector tourism undertaking into one composite corporation with the objective of securing co-ordination in tourism planning and in the policy, efficiency and economic working of the tree corporations viz. Hotel Corporation of India Ltd., India Tourism Corporation Ltd., and India Tourism Transport Undertaking .

In October 1966 , Government established the Indian Tourism Development Corporation Ltd., (ITDC) , under the provisions of the Company Act, 1956, with an authorized capital of 5 crores. The capital was financed by the central government in term of equity and loans.

Objectives of ITDC

According to the Memorandum and the Articles of Associations, the corporation has the following objectives:

• To develop tourism infrastructure.
• The construction, management, and marketing of tourism products including hotels and catering units.
• Establishment and management of tourist transport facilities.
• The setting up of shopping facilities, i.e., duty-free shops and tax-free shops.
• Creating convention and conference facilities.
• Providing consultancy services and training for tourism-related projects.
• Promote tourism traffic in the country through food festivals, fairs and joint ventures abroad.
• Organise cultural and entertainment programmes.
• Provide publicity abroad.

Operations of ITDC

ITDC is a nodal agency in the field of travel and tourism sector in India. Presently, ITDC has the following business groups and operating following operations:

1# Ashoka Group of Hotels – Accommodation and Catering Division

2# Ashoka Travel and Tours – Travel Trade Division

3# Duty-Free Shops and Tax – Shopping Division

Ashoka Group of Hotels

The Ashoka chain is the largest hotel chain in public sector undertaking. Originally, it was providing accommodation at those places where the private sector was shy of the investing in the lodging sector.

Now, it runs hotels all over the country. ITDC’s hotels’ inventory ranges from five-star deluxe hotels to lodges. It has 26 properties at 23 prominent tourist places . These properties are divided into elite, classic and comfortable hotels as ‘Samrat’ in New Delhi, ‘Kanishka’ in New Delhi, ‘Ashoka’ in Jaipur and traveler lodge in Manali.

Ashoka Travel and Tours

ITDC’s in-house travel agency was established in 1983 . It offers a number of package tour both domestic and international. It has the largest fleet of cars and coaches. It also promotes domestic tourism and launched a number of packages of which ‘pilgrims programme’ and ‘Buddhist’ are the latest packages in collaboration with the Railways.

The in-house travel agency also handles conferences and inbound tours. During the last two years, this division had made a remarkable profit.

Duty-Free Trade

The corporation, to facilitate airport shopping, has created 32 Duty-Free Shops in the arrival and departure lounges of international airports at Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta, Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram (Goa).

A tax-free shop is at Ashoka Hotel, New Delhi. This trade is consistently providing revenue in the corporation. Duty-Free Shop has contributed 38 percent of the net profit of ITDC , during the last year the government has decided to operate more duty-free shops near future.

The functions of the corporation are divided into various divisions. Each division has sub-divisions to carry on smooth functions of the corporation. The organizational structure of ITDC is following as:

Role of ITDC in Tourism and Travel Trade

There is no doubt, that the ITDC is at the forefront of Indian Tourism which possesses an elaborate infrastructure of hotels, beach resorts, travel agency, car rental services, duty-free shops, consultancy services, and convention and conference facilities across the length and the breadth of the country.

During the recent years, the corporation has entered into joint venture agreements with several state government to set up mid-market or budget hotels. It has also offered tour packages in collaboration with Air India, Indian Airlines, State Tourism Corporations, and Indian Railways, as ‘enjoy India’  for domestic tourists and ‘discover India,’ ‘Pilgrims Tours’ and ‘Buddhist Package’ etc.

Financial Performance of ITDC

The high profits since 1991-92 speak of the sound financial performance of ITDC. During a short span, the corporation has made a remarkable contribution towards the Indian Economy.

On May 1998, the Indian Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) was criticized by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport and Tourism, despite an increase in turnover and profits. Standing that the performance of ITDC is not as “rosy as has made out,” the committee called for a closer look into the working of ITDC.

The committee was of the view that ITDC has generated increased turnover and profits. Though the company owns prime properties all over the country yet it has not been able to generate more business due to the poor quality of products. The committee also suggested improving the quality of products by providing training to the employees.

During the last year, the disinvestment commission had said that government should offer up to 74 percent of its equity. In the year 1999, the government has offered the equity in ITDC for employees and public sector financial institutions up to 74 percent. This will help the company to raise its finance for expansion and diversification of its activities.

The corporation shall continue to play a strategic and catalytic role in the field of tourism development. However, the corporation needs to implement strategies and action plans to Toto, if it has to remain a profit-making public sector enterprise. Recently the government has given the status of “ Mini Ratna ” to ITDC.

India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC)

ITDC came into existence in October 1966 and has been the prime mover in the progressive development, promotion and expansion of tourism in the country. Broadly, the main objectives of the Corporation are:

• To construct, take over and manage existing hotels and market hotels, Beach Resorts, Travellers’ Lodges/Restaurants;
• To provide transport, entertainment, shopping and conventional services;
• To produce, distribute, tourist publicity material;
• To render consultancy-cum-managerial services in India and abroad;
• To carry on the business as Full-Fledged Money Changers (FFMC), restricted money changers etc;
• To provide innovating, dependable and value for money solutions to the needs of tourism development and engineering industry including providing consultancy and project implementation.

The authorized capital of the Corporation is Rs 75 Crore and the paid up capital as on 31.3.2005 was Rs 67.52 Crore. 89.9748% of the paid up equity capital of the Corporation is held in the name of President of India.

The Corporation is running hotels, restaurants at various places for tourists, besides providing transport facilities. In addition, the Corporation is engaged in production, distribution and sale of tourist publicity literature and providing entertainment and duty free shopping facilities to the tourists. The Corporation has diversified into new avenues/innovative services like Full-Fledged Money Changer (FFMC) services, engineering related consultancy services etc. The Ashok Institute of Hospitality & Tourism Management of the Corporation imparts training and education in the field of tourism and hospitality.

Presently, ITDC has a network of eight Ashok Group of Hotels, six Joint Venture Hotels, 2 Restaurants (including one Airport Restaurant), 12 Transport Units, one Tourist Service Station, 37 Duty Free Shops at International as well as Domestic Customs Airports, one Tax Free outlet and two Sound & Light Shows.

Besides, ITDC is also managing a hotel at Bharatpur and a restaurant at Kosi on behalf of the Department of Tourism. In addition, it is also managing catering services at Western Court, Vigyan Bhawan, Hyderabad House and National Media Press Centre at Shastri Bhawan, New Delhi.

• 3.Tickets are not transferable.
• 4.Management is not responsible for luggage/baggage and Personal belongings of the tourists.
• 5.Tourists are requested to take personal care about their Luggage/Belongings.
• 6.The management reserves the right to cancel the trip in case the numbers of seats booked are less than 12 and for any such other reasons.
• 7.The ticket is valid for the particular journey to which it is issued.
• 8.Children above the age of 5 years will be charged full fare. No seats will be given to children below 5 years. (Age proof Required)
• 9.Passengers are requested to report 15 minutes in advance. The bus will not wait for passenger who arrives late.
• 10.Smoking and consumption of alcohol is strictly prohibited in the coach.
• 11.Purchasing articles from other than Govt. shops is at their own risk.
• 12.The Corporation shall neither be responsible nor refund the amount in case the tourists miss the bus on account of late reporting to the pickup point.
• 13.Tipping the staff including the Guide is strictly prohibited. They are paid by KSTDC except for BHS trip.
• 14.Pets and Animals not allowed inside the bus while on Journey.
• 15.The management has all the right to make the passengers to get down from the bus, who are travelling on invalid tickets, disturbing the co-passengers & drunken passengers, without any refund.
• 16.No postponement of journey will be made within 24 hours. There is no refund on cancellation of one time Preponed/Postponed ticket.
• 17.Tariff is subject to change without notice.
• 18.Accommodation is subject to availability of the rooms and they are subject to change without prior notice.
• 19.Senior Citizens are provided with 20% discount on transportation by default while booking ticket. Hence they must produce valid proof.
• 20.The management shall not be liable for third party suppliers including arrangements with accommodation providers, activity providers and local guides and other independent parties (Third party suppliers) to provide you with some or all the components of your bookings.
• 21.The management shall not be liable and will not assume responsibility for any claims, losses, damages, costs or expenses arising out of inconvenience, loss of enjoyment, upset, disappointed, distress or frustration, whether physical or mental, resulting from the act or omission of any party other than Tour Operator and its employees.
• 22.The management resources all the right to update or alter their terms and condition at any time, and will post the amended terms and condition in the tour package.
• 24.The package tour tariff includes only accommodation and transportation costs, the other charges like food, entrance tickets, etc.. should be borne by tourists themselves.

• Cancellation from the proposed time of departure before 48 hours – 10% – before 24 hrs. – 25% deducted. within 24 hrs. – No refund or cancellation

Special Terms and Condition for Tirupathi Packages

• Piligrims are mandatory to produce either the vaccination certificate(2doses) or Covid-19 negative certificate obtained with in 73hrs prior to date of darshan at the time of availing special entry darshan.
• Piligrims to be noted that due to the new guidelines imposed from Tirupathi Tirumala Darshana there will be no cancellations or any modifications allowed before 7 days of departure.
• Piligrims to be noted that the data of the tickets booked for Tirupathi darshana is pushed to Tirumala Tirupathi Devastham(TTD) server 7 days in advance before the date of journey, there will be no any modifcations/ cancellations allowed for any unforeseen circumstances (like sudden death of family member, any accidentalissues , etc..)
• Rule of Cancellation : Cancellation from the proposed date before 7 days of departure10% cancellation charges is applicable. No cancellations or any modifications allowed before 7 days of departure.
• Cancellation from the proposed date before 7 days of departure at 10pm, cancellation charges of 10% would applicable as per cancellation policy.

Special TERMS & CONDITIONS FOR Ambaari Double Decker Packages:

• 1.U stands for UPPER DECK and L stands for LOWER DECK
• 2.Incase DASARA Lighting Illumination is not available during the service through AMBAARI, KSTDC would not be responsible.
• 3. The trip is operated during the rain as well.
• 4. Ticket once booked cannot be cancelled or postponed.
• 5. The arrival and departure time depends on the traffic.
• 6. Publics are not allowed to park in the premises of KSTDC Mayura Hoysala.
• 7. Passengers must report to the boarding point 30 mins before the departure.
• 8. Passengers needs to carry valid ID cards and tickets during the trip.
• 9. The trip route might be changed incase of any restrictions imposed by the Police.

ITDC bus packages are conducted by authorized private bus operators along with ITDC. Daily Tirupati Packages are Conducted by VOLVO AC Multiaxle Semi-sleeper bus. Fresh up will be provided in a deluxe hotel. Temples visited are Tirupati Balaji at Tirumala Hills with special entry darshan ticket and Padmavati Temple Darshan.

1. Departure: Bus starts 09.00pm.   Night Journey to Tirupathi.

2. Arrival: 04.30am Tirupati. You will be received by IRCTC Tour Guide.  Check into the hotel for fresh up.

3. At 05.45 am Approximately have Darshan of Shree Padmavathi at Thiruchanur and travel back to hotel to have breakfast.

4. Around 07.00am, travel to Tirumala by APSRTC bus.

5. The guide will give you the darshan passes and around 10.00am, you will get into the queue for Darshan of Lord Balaji Venkateshwara.

6. After darshan you will have some time for Shopping near the temple.

7. At around 12.30pm, you will start your journey back to Tirupati and reach the Hotel have lunch.

8. Around 2:30 PM you will start your journey back to Bangalore.

9. Around 08.30pm night you will reach Bangalore and the tour ends with the blessing of Lord Balaji

Utopia of the Seas is an impressive ship, with a passenger capacity of 6,700, a total weight of 237,000 tons, and 2,830 cabins. 

It is part of Royal Caribbean’s Oasis class of ships featuring an impressive array of amenities, such as an indoor ice skating rink, a zip line, a FlowRider surf simulator, a rock climbing wall, a water park, a 259 ft Ultimate Abyss waterslide, an aqua theater, and neighborhoods filled with shops, restaurants, and bars. Disney Treasure, the latest addition to the Disney Cruise Line, will launch in December this year, marking a significant milestone after a decade since the launch of the last Disney cruise ship. The ship has 1256 cabins and suites, each designed with a theme inspired by Disney movies like Aladdin, The Lion King, and Pocahontas. 

Passengers on the cruise are in for a treat, with exciting Broadway-style musicals and the Aqua Mouse, a thrilling Disney water ride. Silversea Cruises is preparing to launch its newest ship, the Silver Ray, in the summer of 2024. The Silver Ray is the second Nova Class ship in the Silversea fleet, and it promises to bring ultra-luxury cruising to a new level. With a capacity of 728 passengers, the Silver Ray is a small ship that offers an all-balcony cabin experience, complete with walk-in closets and butler service. 

But that’s not all. The Silver Ray is also an eco-friendly cruise ship, making it the first hybrid, luxury cruise ship to be completely emission-free while in port. It does this by using fuel cells and batteries to power the ship.

Mein Schiff 7 is the latest addition to TUI Cruises’ fleet and is expected to launch in the summer of 2024. TUI Cruises, a German-based cruise line co-owned by Royal Caribbean, has designed Mein Schiff 7 as a mid-size ship with a passenger capacity of 2896. 

The brand new cruise ship has 12 restaurants and bistros, 17 bars and lounges, and cabins for solo travelers. The ship also features a reinvented casino concept that combines a lounge and casino. The ship will sail in the Baltic and British Isles.
