Make Your Own! Total Time: 10 Minutes 1. Add 1-2 tbsp of cooking oil to a sauté pan. Sauté peppers and onions on high heat for two to three minutes. Season with salt and pepper and set aside. 2. Remove the chicken from the pouch, discard liquid and slice into thin strips. - Pro tip: heating the chicken ahead of time will cut down the cook time and get you oozing, melty cheese in a hurry. Follow package heating instructions, for best results. 4. Assemble the quesadillas: Place shredded cheese on one tortilla, followed by sliced chicken, sautéed mixture, more cheese and top with a second tortilla. 5. Cook quesadilla in an oiled sauté pan on medium heat until both sides are golden brown, crunchy and the filling is heated through. 6. Kwik Trip Take Home Meals

Listen up local Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa readers! Kwik Trip recently launched their quick, easy and inexpensive Kitchen Cravings Take Home Meals and they are absolutely incredible! My boyfriend and I have tried out five (of the many) take home meals Kwik Trip offers and we are so impressed by the quality and low price point of each meal.

The macaroni and cheese was under $5.00 and the Chicken Alfredo was under $7.50. You get a lot of food in each individually packaged container too. You could’ve fed two adults or three children with the take home macaroni and cheese!

I was curious to see how these meals compared to other frozen dinners boxes you could buy at Target or the grocery store and let me tell you, Kwik Trip’s Take Home Meals are on an entirely different level. You can’t even compare the two.

The Director of Commissary Operations, Ray Monroe , states “our team prepares meals every day of the week to ensure the freshness you see is the freshness you will taste.” All the take-home meals are prepared and produced in La Crosse, Wisconsin and delivered to your local Kwik Trip convenience store daily. That explains why they taste so good!

Take-Home Meal Selection!

There’s a variety of meal options to choose from and each one comes with full cooking instructions right on the label! All you need to do is pop them in the microwave for 2-3 minutes and they’re ready to eat!

A few of the meals you can choose from are Spaghetti and Meatballs, Grilled Chicken Breast with Rice Pilaf and Broccoli, Chicken Enchiladas with Spanish Rice and Beans, BBQ Pulled Pork, Mac and Cheese with Chicken and Bacon, Macaroni and Cheese, Grilled Chicken Fettucine Alfredo, Meatloaf Dinner with Mashed Potatoes and more. I’m sure all of you could’ve guessed that the meal I was most excited to try was the Macaroni and Cheese along with the Garlic Breadsticks. Both were delicious and on par with my mom’s cooking! The macaroni was thick and creamy and absolutely perfect!

My boyfriend tried out a few meals as well, and his absolute favorites were the Grilled Chicken Fettucine Alfredo and spaghetti with meatballs. He couldn’t stop talking about them!

Kwik Trip Take Home Meals

One of my favorite things Kwik Trip has recently introduced are their Take Home Meals . If you’re unfamiliar, these are freshly-prepared lunch and dinner options that can be heated up in the microwave and ready to eat within minutes! You simply remove the plastic lid and follow the directions printed right on the sticker.

I just love how easy they are! It’s such a great option whether you need a quick lunch or if you just don’t feel like making dinner one night. We’ve also eaten these on road trips before too! Kwik Trip has a microwave so you can heat them up in the store and just bring them out to your car. A great alternative to typical fast food!

One thing to keep in mind is that the meal options are constantly changing so be on the lookout for new flavors! They just came out with their first vegetarian meal called Veggie Bowtie and they also released a new one in early September called Brisket Mac & Cheese. The other day, I picked up three different meals that I hadn’t tried yet: Manicotti & Italian Sausage, Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo, and Chicken Teriyaki (my personal favorite!). The portion sizes are generous and most can easily serve two people. There have also been plenty of times when I’ve reheated my leftovers the next day!

Kwik Trip Take Home Meals are prepared every day of the week right in La Crosse, Wisconsin and they also source many of the ingredients locally from Wisconsin Minnesota, and Iowa. If you haven’t tried these yet, you definitely should! I’d also recommend downloading the Kwik Trip app since they sometimes have coupons and specials on there! Kwik Trip’s New Take Home Dinners A Response to COVID-19

A brand new kitchen facility in La Crosse, Wisconsin opened September 14th, and now all Kwik Trips have their new line of take-home meals called " Take Home Meals ."

I talked about the plan to do take home meals way back in May 2019 when we first saw fresh fried chicken come into Kwik Trips in and around Rochester , and I did a taste test .

"According to Convenience Store News, the fried chicken concept is the first attempt at Kwik Trip Take Home Meals. If it goes well, other menu items would likely be added (mmmm...think meatloaf)." ( Continue reading here... )

What are the new meals?

• Roasted Turkey Dinner with Stuffing, Mashed Potatoes & Gravy
• Homestyle Meatloaf Dinner with Mashed Potatoes & Gravy
• Chicken Enchilada Dinner with Spanish Rice & Beans
• Grilled Chicken Breast with Rice Pilaf & Broccoli

Today I tried the Pork Chop Dinner with stuffing, mashed potatoes, and gravy (also pictured above) . It was pretty darn good. Tasted like real mashed potatos, the pork chop was not thick, but it was tender, and the stuffing did the things stuffing should do (aka -comfort food heaven!).

• 1 serving per container was 520 calories...32 grams total fat, 1440mg sodium (on the high side, so drink plenty of water), and carbs came in at 32 grams.

How is this Covid-19 related if they were planning on doing this anyway?

"It's our expectation that you're going to see a lot of restaurants not survive the pandemic," said John McHugh, director of communications at Kwik Trip. "We think that the consumer is going to be a little less inclined to go to a sit down restaurant for a meal. They're going to be worried about safety, social distancing, and yet, we know that there's a large percentage of consumers that … don't like to cook. Or there's a certain percentage of people that frankly don't know how to cook." ( Convenience Store News )

You'll find 'em in the cooler section (right near the cold fried chicken).

A kwik kudos on the label...you usually have to fight to get labels off meals, but this one has a 'peel here' bit so they come off super easy. I know it's a small detail, but its the kind of thing that means I won't be pulling so hard I'll throw the food all over when I lose my grip.

And yes, maybe it's happened before.

“Awesome Old Soviet Era Show & Dinner” Review of YAR Restaurant

I went to eat dinner and see the show and i can say everything was great. The food was delicious and service was professional. Yes it is slightly more expensive then eating at other places but look at where you are! This place screams soviet era and history. you're eating & drinking where many famous people have once done the same thing. In regards to the show... Well its without a doubt unique and oddly interesting. The performers also interacted with the crowd and made it fun. You'll see many reviews some of which put this place down.... don't believe them! this dinner & show was a highlight and worth the $$ You WILL remember it!

In these days of close seating and fast food, it was great to go to a restaurant steeped in history. I imagined an atmosphere with Pushkin, Tolstoy, Gorky eating here -what conversation there would have been !! We were seated in a separate area slightly above the main floor and so very private. The service was exceptional as was the food . There is a live show which was worth coming just for it. very elaborate sets and lots of music , color and dance. Mesmerizing is the word for it... Very expensive so don't go here if on a budget, but if you can only afford to eat out once - go to this restaurant. You will remember the experience.

Yar is a 150 year old restaurant that is in a palace like building. No nouvelle cuisine here... just old fashioned stick to your ribs kind of food. Had the beef cheeks which were superb. So were the oysters and the strognoff. The floor show is a mixture of circque du soleil, wild cossacks and a James Bond movie! Great fun and a very entertaining way to spend an evening in Moscow.

If you are ever in Moscow, you must visit this restaurant, I did not stay at the hotel, but the restaurant was stunning, the decor, the ambiance, the cuisine, the shows that they have on. Everything was just so quintessentially Russian, very grande, very generous, a must see/experience.

This restaurant was in our hotel and I had seen it when I had been looking on the Internet at the hotel, it looked very interesting, my meal was delicous I choose the stroganoff and had a salad to start with, my husband picked the chicken Kiev, which unfortunately didn't quite taste like he thought but it was ok. The show itself was rather strange but after awhile we began to enjoy it , even though at the end we still had no idea what it was about.

Last-Minute Solar Eclipse Glasses: Here's How to Find a Pair

Warby Parker says its stores are out of stock of free ones, but you still have other options. Also, make sure you test your glasses.

It's essential to wear a proper pair of eclipse glasses, or a  box pinhole projector  for indirect viewing , if you'll be viewing the skies during the solar eclipse today . Except for the brief period of total darkness or totality, looking at any portion of the sun or partial eclipse can cause damage to your eyes .  

Warby Parker , the popular prescription glasses shop, was making it a little easier by offering free solar eclipse glasses at its stores. However, the company is now out of stock, according to an automated message on Warby Parker's customer service line, and information from a company representative provided to CNET Sunday evening. (If you don't want to take my word for it, you can try calling your local Warby Parker store using this store-locator map .)

We're down to the wire. But if you're searching last- last minute, below are a couple more ways to snag a pair of glasses that come from the American Astronomical Society's  preapproved list of sellers  that make legitimate (i.e. safe) eclipse glasses. 

If you bought your glasses from a store or source outside the list of safe sellers, it's an extra-good idea to test your glasses before the eclipse  to make sure they're the real deal, especially amid recent  reports of recalls of eclipse glasses, including some stores in Missouri.

Where else to look for free glasses (or buy some last minute)

A good option for finding free solar eclipse glasses is to visit your local library to see if it's offering any. The AAS has a map of  libraries offering certified glasses . Or, you can give your library a call. 

If you're out of free options, there are some chain stores, restaurants and convenience stores selling certified solar eclipse glasses, according to the AAS, although whether they carry them will depend on the individual location. 

The following stores sell certified glasses in-shop, as identified by the AAS :  

• Walmart 
• Cracker Barrel 
• Bucc-ee's 
• Meijer 
• Menards 

If you get to your local Warby Parker store and it's already run out of eclipse glasses, the company says it also has  pinhole projectors  on hand. (You can also  make your own   pinhole projector .) 

Wherever you get your glasses, especially if you buy them from a source that hasn't been vetted specifically by the AAS, it's a good idea to give them a test run before the big event. To help you figure it out, the  American Academy of Ophthalmology says that while looking through them, no light of "ordinary brightness" should be visible through your eclipse glasses or solar viewer; only the sun or sunlight that's reflected somewhere.
