Luxury last minute ski holidays
While late deals are often associated with the cheap end of the skiing scale, they can also be a savvy way to bag a holiday somewhere far superior. Leftover rooms can result in decent last-minute discounts on luxury ski chalets and 4-5* hotels : book these and before you know it you could be relaxing in a mountaintop spa or feasting on gourmet Savoyard cuisine... If you have a specific resort or property in mind you might not want to leave it until the eleventh hour, but if you’re open to a range of options you could well find something special among our luxury late ski deals .
Last minute all inclusive
The bonus of a last minute all-inclusive ski deal is that beyond the main booking, there’s barely anything left for you to sort out: our favourite all-inclusive packages include ski passes and lessons (which can sometimes be a pain to sort out near the departure date), not to mention more than enough food and drink for the whole week. With everything bundled together, you can bag a late deal and get on with the important things – like packing and getting excited – without having to think about the rest.
Last minute ski weekends
If you’re looking to escape for a few days on the mountains, our late deals on short breaks should have you covered. Weekend and mid-week holidays set off from dozens of UK airports, most in the form of a 3 or 4 day getaway. When packages include flights, transfers and a meal plan it helps keep things simple, letting you focus on the packing and make the most of your time away.
Last minute family skiing
Life’s too short to be cooped up at home when the mountains are calling – if the school holidays are approaching and the slopes are just too tempting, check out our family friendly late deals . Though childcare and ski schools might be harder to pin down at this stage, if all you need is somewhere snowy, a place to stay and a means to get there, there are usually dozens of deals available.
Last minute group ski holidays
Who said group holidays had to take weeks of organising? If you’re a bunch of keen skiers and snowboarders open to a range of resorts and accommodation types, we’ll show you all the latest availability that matches your party size. Once you’ve found the perfect package, our top tips for keeping last minute group bookings simple are to give the group leader the funds and go ahead to secure the holiday as soon as possible before it gets snapped up. Check if anyone needs ski / snowboard carriage and note down everyone’s names (as they appear on their passports) and DOB’s plus any dietary requirements that need to be passed on to your chalet or hotel .

Do Last-Minute Ski Holidays Cost Less?
Most of the time it's possible to find very low-priced ski holidays by booking late. You may not always find exactly what you're looking for if availablity is limited but if you're flexible it's likely you'll snag a big discount, even during peak holiday weeks (Christmas, New Year and Feb half-term) and in big-name ski resorts like St Anton, Val d'Isere, Tignes, Meribel etc.
Booking early might be a savvy move if you have some specific holiday wants - there are often sales, offers and promotions available up to a year in advance - or if you have a large group. But if you like the spontanaiety of the last-minute rush and there's only 1 - 4 people looking to travel, then you could find a ski holiday for a lot less by booking last minute.

Packing List for a Last Minute Ski Holiday
When it comes to going on last minute ski holidays, we have over 40 years of experience and know a thing or two about how and what to take with you, especially if you're packing without much notice! While equipment and luggage have evolved over time, certain essentials remain unchanged. To ensure you're well-prepared for a week on the slopes, here's our definitive list of must-pack items:
- Ski wear, layers, technical fabrics - OK this is more than one item, but the key to an efficient ski outfit is temperature control, aka layering. From the inside out, to last you the week you’ll need three pairs of good ski socks, a couple of base layers (bottoms and tops), ski pants, a microfleece/down second layer, a waterproof jacket/shell and gloves. It’s a good idea to wear glove liners in the depths of winter for insulation, and waterproof gloves or a second dry pair in your backpack if the snow is heavy.
- Backpack – Opt for a 30-liter backpack that's not too big or small. Look for a "low-profile" sports backpack with waist and chest straps for comfort during long ski days. Ensure it has convenient pockets for storage. While any regular backpack will do, it may be uncomfortable and cumbersome while skiing.
- Eyewear – Protect your eyes from the sun's UV rays. Invest in a good pair of ski goggles suitable for various weather conditions and a quality pair of sunglasses for travel and après-ski. If you wear glasses, consider bringing contact lenses for a more convenient skiing experience. Ensure your eyewear provides UVA and UVB protection, and polarized lenses are ideal for snowy conditions.
- Sun protection – This is a must. Pack a high-factor sun cream and lip balm to protect and moisturize your skin in all conditions. Don't forget to bring them from home as resort prices can be steep.
- Neck-gaiter – These versatile garments protect your head and neck from the sun and cold. Lightweight and breathable, they occupy minimal space in your jacket pocket and prove invaluable in various weather conditions. Avoid thick fleece options that can make you too hot and uncomfortable.
- Helmet – The most crucial piece of equipment for skiing or snowboarding is a helmet. Never hit the slopes without one, and encourage your friends to do the same. Don't use luggage space as an excuse to neglect this essential safety gear.
- Loafing/loungewear – After a long day on the slopes, there's nothing better than slipping into comfy PJs, joggers, or a hoodie. You'll likely wear these every day, so they're worth the luggage space.
- Slippers/house shoes – Many chalets enforce a "no shoes inside" rule. Don't regret leaving your cosy slippers at home when you find yourself walking through melted snow in the hallway. Surprisingly, these are often the most coveted items among those who didn't bring them.
- Everyday clothes – While exploring the resort villages, you'll need some non-skiing attire. Instead of packing an outfit for each day, consider the time you'll spend in regular clothes. Pack a pair or two of jeans, two or three tops, and a sweatshirt. Your warm ski jacket will provide an extra layer.
- Phone charger + gubbins, including a travel adapter – We all rely on our phones, so don't forget your charger. Also, ensure you have a travel adapter to avoid inflated prices in resorts. Cold temperatures can drain your phone's battery, so a power bank comes in handy. Remember all the necessary charging cables.

5 Killer-Value Weekend Ski Trips
Sure, it's early season, but book these mid- and late-winter vacations now and you'll save big

There’s one main reason to wait until the last minute to book ski trips: You can keep an eye on the weather forecast for a better chance of scoring a powder day. This strategy has its drawbacks, though: If you wait, you’ll pay top dollar on everything from hotels to lift tickets. For the best savings, most ski resorts and ski-town hotels incentivize you to book now, in the early winter months. Here are five dependably promising spots.
Powder Mountain
Powder Mountain is a secret giant. It’s bigger than Whistler Blackcomb, with 8,464 acres of skiable terrain, and has two newly added lifts, plus a massive zone for guided and inbounds cat skiing. More than 500 inches of snowfall a year and significantly smaller crowds than elsewhere in Utah (ticket sales are capped at 1,500 per day) mean you’ll be sure to get fresh tracks here. Fly into Salt Lake City and drive 80 minutes, or fly into the tiny Ogden-Hinkley Airport, 25 miles from Powder Mountain, on Allegiant Air’s new direct flights from Los Angeles and Las Vegas, with midweek flights starting as low as $35 each way. Book a house or condo in nearby Eden or a slopeside room at the Columbine Inn , starting at $125.
Now that Vail Resorts owns Stowe , you can use your Epic Pass to ski here starting this winter. The Spruce Peak base area has undergone a transformation, featuring a new $90 million adventure center with a climbing wall and an upscale 300-room hotel and performing arts center. With an average of 314 inches of snow a year, plus extensive snowmaking, you can’t go wrong here in January or February. No Epic Pass? Buy your lift tickets at least 48 hours ahead of your trip for the cheapest rates. You can ride Amtrak from Washington, D.C., or New York City into nearby Waterbury. Or book a seat aboard Tradewind Air ’s eight-passenger planes for an hourlong flight from White Plains, New York, to a small airport 20 minutes from Stowe. (Tickets start at about $232.) Stay at Field Guide Stowe , where a breakfast basket is delivered to your room each morning. Rooms start at $139.
Mammoth Mountain
Nestled into the steep peaks of California’s snow-drenched eastern Sierra Nevada, Mammoth feels remote. But getting here for a weekend jaunt really isn’t that hard. It’s a five-hour drive from Los Angeles, 3.5 hours from Reno, or less than an hour when you hop a direct flight from San Francisco, L.A., or San Diego. Need to stay connected to the office? New this year is a co-working space called the Fort in the mountain’s base lodge, so you can squeeze in a conference call midday if duty calls. You’ll save 40 percent on lift tickets if you buy more than a week in advance, or a book a ski-and-stay package for tickets and lodging at resort-owned properties like the Mammoth Mountain Inn or Tamarack Lodge. Rooms start at $161 per person per night.
You may not think of Boise as a destination ski town, but that’s actually a good thing: Nobody else does, either, which means you’ll have the freshies all to yourself at Bogus Basin , 40 minutes from downtown. Last winter, the mountain had nearly 300 inches—one of the snowiest winters on record. You can fly directly into Boise, a low-key airport with direct flights from many major cities, including Chicago, Dallas, Minneapolis, and San Francisco. Stay at the Inn at 500 Capitol , a new boutique hotel that opened last January in the increasingly hip downtown Boise. It offers a ski-and-stay package that includes rooms with fireplaces, lift tickets, and après-ski cocktails delivered to your room, starting at $350 a night.
If you can handle the four-hour drive on I-70 from Denver to Aspen , you’ll be treated to vast, empty bowls at four distinctly different mountains. Hop on one of dozens of nonstop (albeit often expensive) flights from major cities to Aspen’s tiny airport, and you’ll be lapping the gondola at Aspen Mountain or bootpacking Highland Bowl that afternoon. The Mountain Collective Pass works here, or buy tickets at least a week in advance for the lowest rates. Book a slopeside room at the base of Snowmass’ Stonebridge Inn and you can get breakfast at the in-house restaurant, the Artisan, before walking to the lifts. Rooms start at $126.

FAQs about ski weekends and short breaks
- Find a resort with a short transfer time - less time travelling, can mean more time on the slopes and time to get gear and lift passes once you arrive.
- Get early flights out and late flights back - While an early start can be a struggle for night owls, getting an early flight ensures you're spending more time in resort. And naturally, you can further maximise your time in resort by opting for a late flight back, giving you even more time to ski before you have to leave.
- Get accommodation close to the slopes/center of the resort - If you choose accommodation close to the slopes, you'll naturally spend less time getting to first lifts in the morning. Ski-in and ski-out options are often ideal for this reason. Meanwhile, if the resort is out of town and requires a bus to get to it, being close to the bus routes in the center of town means less time travelling to the lifts.

Sarah - Director "Make sure you make some time to ski down to Meribel Village on your Three Valleys holiday. There are lovely blue tree-lined runs and you can stop for a bite to eat at the Altiport. You may even see a plane coming into land. If you have time, also check the LDV for apres - always live bands and a great vibe!"
Meribel needs no introduction. Situated in the heart of the Three Valleys, this pretty resort has proved popular for British ski holidays for many years and gives access to over 600km of pistes. Meribel was founded by a Scotsman called Colonel Peter Lindsay in 1938 and has continued to evolve and thrive ever since. The resort's popularity for holidays and short breaks is not only due to the extensive skiing but also the attractive chalet style architecture. The resort has managed to retain its Alpine charm and consists of chalet style wood and stone buildings, not a high rise apartment block in sight.
When looking for ski holidays in Meribel, there are 3 distinct areas to consider: Meribel Centre, Meribel Village and Meribel Mottaret. Meribel Centre is the largest and is home to the main shopping area along with the greatest selection of après ski bars and restaurants. Worthy of a mention for those who like to party are Le Rond Point (The Ronnie) and La Folie Douce who both have lively but different après-ski parties. Meribel Village has a great apres bar and is surrounded by lots of lovely chalets. The Lodge du Village (LDV) has a lively lounge bar as well as a sunny terrace and balcony making it an ideal spot to have a drink whilst watching the sun go down.
Meribel ski holidays are incredibly popular due to the diverse nature of the resort, in terms of runs, accommodation, nightlife, restaurants and activities.

SKI AREA OVERVIEW
The Meribel valley offers a vast choice of pistes suited to all standards of skiers and snowboarders. If you are new to skiing don't be intimidated by the vast ski area, Meribel offers beginners the gentle tree-lined runs around the Altiport and there are plenty of challenging runs for intermediate and advanced skiers higher up on the Saulire where there are steeper blues and reds which allow mixed-ability groups to ski in the same area. Meribel itself has a very good snow record as most of the ski area located above 1800m but there are also over 700 snow cannons for lighter snow conditions, the Three Valleys are renowned for their piste maintenance.
If you want to upgrade your lift pass, accessing the 3 Valleys from Meribel is easy, perfect for ski weekenders with only a few days at your disposal. The 3 Valleys offers over 600kms of pistes with over 150+ lifts and pistes that range from 1260 - 3230m! Cruise the sweeping red and blue runs of Courchevel and ski above the tree line in the snow sure Val Thorens . For practising your slopestyle there is the Plattières snowpark located above Meribel - Mottaret with its jumps, banks and halfpipes or you could head to the Moonpark in Meribel to try out your freestyling skills on jumps, rails and boxes. Further afield La Tania also has a snow park and Courchevel has a larger dedicated rail park.
Brides Les Bains is lower than Meribel itself is also available for those looking for cheaper accommodation and is included in the Meribel local area ski pass.
