Jessica Audiffred DJing action shot

Jessica Audiffred is coming to The Ogden Theatre on February 10th as part of her Mad House World Tour. The Latina DJ and producer powerhouse has made big bass waves in the music community, caching many ears in the process. But one in particular changed her life. The industry legend Flux Pavillion signed her to his label, Circus Recordings. The rest, as they say, is history. Hailing from Mexico City, Jessica’s distinct and unique sound has garnered recognition and respect from many, especially her Mexican community. Hence, her A-Records label is designed to help up-and-coming Mexican artists with an outlet to get their music heard.

In addition, her Mad House party series is the first-ever large-scale bass festival in Mexico. Through it, she strives to bring the latest and greatest in bass and trap to Mexico. And now she’s bringing it around the world. Moreover, she also created Mexico’s first-ever bass-centric radio show, “Back to Basics.” For that reason, she is “the undisputed Queen of Mexico’s Trap and Bass scene” per Bassrush and Your EDM. Not only popular in Mexico, Audiffred is slowly but surely taking over the world. This year, she made her Tomorrowland debut. She’s also graced stages at Forbidden Kingdom, Beyond Wonderland, Rampage and Lost Lands. And now she’s coming to The Ogden Theatre in February. The former movie theater is in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Denver and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It’s a multi-level venue with layout flexibility, featuring two full bars as well as state-of-the-art sound and lighting. It can comfortably fit up to 1,600 attendees, and any seat offers a great view of the stage. All of this makes The Ogden the perfect spot for Audiffred to bring her earth-quaking, booty-shaking bass. Audiffred’s also bringing special guest Modestep, with YDG and Youth in Circles adding support. Jessica Audiffred has said that Circus Recordings will always be near and dear to her heart. They were the first to believe in her, after all. But with big names such as DJ Diesel and Excision now supporting her as well, it’s clear she’s doing something right. Nowadays, most of Audiffred’s shows sell out, so you can bet this one will too. Be sure to cop your ticket for Jessica Audiffred’s Mad House World Tour show at The Ogden Theatre February 10th, 2024.

Dubbed "one of the hardest players in the game" (by Festival Voice), in only a few short years (since her introduction to the US market), Jessica's North American resume already includes B2B showcases and tours with industry giants like Excision, sold out arenas with Riot Ten, monthly residencies across the country and rapturous dance floors slammed wall to wall in what Insomniac, Bassrush has likened to ."..dropped jaws and cracked skulls."

A talent whose sound has long outgrown Mexico City, the alpha metropolis of her upbringing and rise to prominence, Jessica has managed to establish her own niche style within the Bass and Trap genre's not only as a legitimate, sought after music producer but also as a captivating live performer, moving festival crowds at EDC, Lost Lands, Beyond Wonderland and Forbidden Kingdom year after year alongside world class acts and relevant talent.

Between neck breaking festival weapons appearing on Excisions new 'Subsidia' imprint and campaign defining music for Adidas (Latin America), collaborations with Walshy Fire (of 'Major Lazer' fame), Point Blank and many others, Jessica has been busy in the studio not only creatively but also as a music instructor who loves to share her studio secrets with her heavily engaged fan base.

In 2016, with great success Jessica introduced her 'A Records' imprint further expressing her concept and discernment for Electronic music. Skrillex & co.'s 'Nest HQ' celebrated her as a "Taste maker…soon to be a major staple in the global dance scene." 'Bassrush' and 'Your EDM' hailed her "the undisputed Queen of Mexico's Trap and Bass scene" and the 'DJ Times' referred to her as "a dominant force in Bass music."

Before even having stepped foot in North America, Jessica's heavy blog presence earned her the attention of industry titans such as Flux Pavilion, who in 2016 went as far as including her in his small list of top global acts for the 'DJmag' top 100 — signing her to his label, 'Circus Recordings' and offering her the opportunity to remix his acclaimed release alongside NGHTMRE, "Feel Your Love." The following years saw Jessica's relationship with Circus Records UK grow, celebrating the labels 10 year anniversary with a tour and a carefully crafted debut album which is set to release in the first quarter of 2022. All while championing Mexico's first ever Bass-centric radio show 'Back to Bassics.'

'Run the Trap' and 'Audio Femme' bet on Jessica's future with no delay, as did 'Your EDM' who has listed her as one of the very few DJ's to watch year after year. Awarded the title of "#1 DJ in Mexico" by 'MDM' via a landslide vote, Jessica is 'Steppin' into the new year with all the energy of her bass drops, sneakers laced and 'Evil A's' at the ready and as 'EDM Manic' put it, the industry is expecting "nothing short of a revolution.

Moscow concert hall attack: Why is ISIL targeting Russia?

Deadly attack in Moscow claimed by ISIL affiliate leaves more than 133 people dead and approximately 100 injured.

More than 133 people have been killed and more than 100 others were injured following a brazen attack on concertgoers at Moscow’s Crocus City Hall before a performance by a Soviet-era rock band on Friday.

Assailants dressed in camouflage uniforms opened fire and reportedly threw explosive devices inside the concert venue, which was left in flames with its roof collapsing after the deadly attack.

At least 115 killed, more than 185 injured in attack on moscow concert hall, more than 130 killed in moscow concert hall attack, ‘heinous, cowardly’: world reacts to attack on moscow concert hall, moscow concert hall attack: what do we know so far.

Eleven people had been detained, including four people directly involved in the armed assault, Russia’s Interfax news agency reported on Saturday.

ISIL’s Afghan branch – also known as the Islamic State in Khorasan Province, ISKP (ISIS-K) – has claimed responsibility for the attack and United States officials have confirmed the authenticity of that claim, according to the Reuters news agency.

Here is what we know about the group and their possible motive for the Moscow attack.

ISIL’s Afghanistan branch

The group remains one of the most active affiliates of ISIL and takes its title from an ancient caliphate in the region that once encompassed areas of Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan and Turkmenistan.

The group emerged from eastern Afghanistan in late 2014 and was made up of breakaway fighters of the Pakistan Taliban and local fighters who pledged allegiance to the late ISIL leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi .

The group has since established a fearsome reputation for acts of brutality.

Murat Aslan, a military analyst and former Turkish army colonel, said ISIL’s Afghanistan affiliate is known for its “radical and tough methodologies”.

“I think their ideology inspires them in terms of selecting targets. First of all, Russia is in Syria and fighting against Daesh [ISIL] like the United States. That means they see such countries as hostile,” Aslan told Al Jazeera.

“They are now in Moscow. Previously they were in Iran, and we will see much more attacks, maybe in other capitals,” he added.

Though its membership in Afghanistan is said to have declined since a peak in about 2018, its fighters still pose one of the greatest threats to the Taliban’s authority in Afghanistan.

Previous attacks by the group

ISKP fighters claimed responsibility for the 2021 attacks outside Kabul airport that left at least 175 civilians dead, killed 13 US soldiers, and many dozens injured.

The ISIL affiliate was previously blamed for carrying out a bloody attack on a maternity ward in Kabul in May 2020 that killed 24 people, including women and infants. In November that same year, the group carried out an attack on Kabul University, killing at least 22 teachers and students.

In September 2022, the group took responsibility for a deadly suicide bombing at the Russian embassy in Kabul.

Last year, Iran blamed the group for two separate attacks on a major shrine in southern Shiraz – the Shah Cheragh – which killed at least 14 people and injured more than 40.

The US claimed that it intercepted communications confirming that the group was preparing to carry out attacks before coordinated suicide bombings in Iran in January this year killed nearly 100 people in the southeastern Iranian city of Kerman. ISKP claimed responsibility for the Kerman attacks.

Why is ISIL attacking Russia?

Defence and security analysts say the group has targeted its propaganda at Russian President Vladimir Putin in recent years over the alleged oppression of Muslims by Russia.

“Russian foreign policy has been one big red flag for ISIS [ISIL],” Michael Kugelman, director of the South Asia Institute at the Washington-based Wilson Center told Al Jazeera. “The Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, Russian actions in Chechnya, Moscow’s close relationships with the Syrian and Iranian governments, and especially the military campaigns that Russia has waged against ISIS fighters in Syria and — through Wagner Group mercenaries – in parts of Africa.”

All of that has meant that Moscow has become a focus of ISKP’s “extensive propaganda war,” said Amira Jadoon, assistant professor at Clemson University in South Carolina and co-author of, The Islamic State in Afghanistan and Pakistan: Strategic Alliances and Rivalries.

“Russia’s engagement in the global fight against ISIS and its affiliates, especially through its military operations in Syria and its efforts to establish connections with the Afghan Taliban – ISIS-K’s rival – marks Russia as a key adversary for ISIS/ISIS-K,” Jadoon told Al Jazeera.

Should the Moscow attack be “definitely attributed” to ISKP, Jadoon said, the group hopes to win support and advance “its goal to evolve into a terrorist organisation with global influence” by demonstrating that it can launch attacks within Russian territory.

“ISK [ISKP] has consistently demonstrated its ambition to evolve into a formidable regional entity … By directing its aggression towards nations such as Iran and Russia, ISK not only confronts regional heavyweights but also underscores its political relevance and operational reach on the global stage,” Jadoon said.

Kabir Taneja, a fellow at the Strategic Studies Programme of the Observer Research Foundation – a think tank based in New Delhi, India – told Al Jazeera that Russia is seen by ISIL and its affiliates as “a crusading power against Muslims”.

“Russia has been a target for ISIS and not just ISKP from the beginning,” Taneja, author of the book, The ISIS Peril, said.

“ISKP attacked [the] Russian embassy in Kabul in 2022, and over the months, Russian security agencies have upped their efforts to clamp down on pro-ISIS ecosystems both in Russia and around its borders, specifically Central Asia and the Caucusus,” he said.

In early March, Russia’s Federal Security Service, better known as the FSB, said it had thwarted an ISIL plan to attack a Moscow synagogue.

“The most compelling current motivation for ISIS-K to attack Russia is the Taliban factor. The Taliban is a bitter rival of ISIS, and ISIS views Russia as a friend of the Taliban,” said Kugelman.

Moscow’s close relations with Israel are also anathema to ISIL’s ideology, Taneja said.

“So this friction is not new ideologically, but is so tactically,” he told Al Jazeera.

There’s another factor, too: Largely away from the world’s attention, the armed group has regrouped into a formidable force after setbacks in Syria and Iran.

“ISKP in Afghanistan has grown in strength significantly … and it’s not just ISKP, ISIS in its original regions of operations, Syria and Iraq, also sees [an] uptick in operational capabilities,” Taneja said. Today, he added, it is “ideologically powerful even if not politically, tactically or strategically … that powerful any more”.

That poses a challenge for a distracted world, he said.

“How to combat this is the big question at a time when big power competition and global geopolitical churn has put counterterrorism on the back burner,” Taneja added.

How has ISIL responded?

ISKP social media channels are “jubilant” following the attack on Moscow, said Abdul Basit, a senior associate fellow at the S Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Singapore.

“They are celebrating the attack,” Basit told Al Jazeera, adding that supporters are “translating and recirculating the responsibility claim” issued by the ISIL-linked Amaq News Agency.

Basit said that ISIL’s method of operations involves amplifying a propaganda campaign in advance of large-scale attacks and this had been observed in recent anti-Russian messaging. Such attacks “add to the credibility” of armed groups, Basit explained, which then “increases the scope of their funding, recruitment and propaganda”.

More attacks are possible in Russia and elsewhere, he added, given the key role that ISIL recruits of Central Asian origin – particularly Tajiks – played when the group held territory in Syria. They have now returned to the Central Asia region and their intent to carry out attacks has now materialised in capability, Basit said.

Previous attacks in Russia

Moscow and other Russian cities have been the targets of previous attacks.

In 2002, Chechen fighters took more than 900 people hostage in a Moscow theatre, the Dubrovka, demanding the withdrawal of Russian troops from Chechnya and an end to Russia’s war on the region.

Russian special forces attacked the theatre to end the standoff and 130 people were killed, most suffocated by a gas used by security forces to leave the Chechen fighters unconscious.

The deadliest attack in Russia was the 2004 Beslan school siege which was carried out by members of a Chechen armed group seeking Chechnya’s independence from Russia. The siege killed 334 people, including 186 children.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Marc Wolfe at Fishermen’s Warehouse in downtown Port Clinton knows this week will be a Lake Erie walleye fishing madhouse. It’s the second week of April, the walleye are in full spawning mode and limit catches of six fish are waiting.

This week is even more special, as anglers from just about everywhere are making a beeline to the Walleye Capital of the World.

The Western Basin is in the spotlight, with its plentiful near-shore limestone reefs a traditional area where many thousands of walleye come to spawn. Spawning walleye also run the Maumee and Sandusky rivers, luring an armada of wading anglers.

The great walleye fishing, though, is not limited to those western waters. Good fishing reports are popping up from around the Lake Erie Islands, and from Huron to Lorain.

“We get a crowd of out-of-state fishermen every year during the second week of April, and this year is no different,” said Wolfe, who sends out a trio of party fishing boats on Thursday from his downtown docks at Fishermen’s Warehouse. “The walleye bite is, as expected, on right now and we’re seeing a lot of limit catches.”

Wolfe’s morning trips from 7 a.m. to 2p.m. will be joined by afternoon fishing adventures from 3-10 p.m. this weekend, but locations are changing a bit. This week’s rains have muddied near-shore Lake Erie, with east winds pushing muddy waters from the Portage River toning down this week’s hot spot, the shallows off of Camp Perry.

Crowding Lake Erie waters more than usual will be a National Walleye Tour event based in Port Clinton, with downtown weigh-ins on Thursday and Friday, April 18-19. Most of the competitors have already made the scene, scouting for the top fishing areas and eager to start the NWT tournament season.

If that wasn’t enough, the Bass Pro Shops/Cabela’s National Team Championships will drop anchor in Lorain on Thursday through Saturday, May 9-11. The two-anglers teams will compete for more than $250,000.

Weekend weather is an issue for Erie: The shallow water Lake Erie walleye fishing has been exceptional lately, but has been compromised a bit by recent rains that have muddied near-shore waters.

In addition to the Western Lake Erie shoreline and reefs, anglers had been finding success in 10 to 15 feet of water off Huron, Vermilion and Lorain while casting lead-head jigs. The easy-to-reach waters should clear up soon, though, providing the chance to catch fish on 5/8 to 1-ounce jigs — depending on winds and waves — with black, green and purple hair skirts. In dingy waters, yellow jig-heads will help trigger bites.

Trolling bite still on track: The offshore waters of Lake Erie are still fairly clear, with good walleye catches reported from Huron to Lorain on Thursday in 38 to 44 feet of water. Trolling deep-diving Bandit lures set to run 15 feet deep have triggered success with shad and blue-chrome lure patterns working well.

Casting for walleye competition set: The only Lake Erie Walleye Trail tournament restricting fishermen to drift-and-cast fishing will be held at the Bay’s Edge Cast/Jig Open in Port Clinton on Saturday, April 20.

Michael and Ian Hostetler won the LEWT season opener at Magee East Marina on March 30 with a limit of five walleye weighing 37.25 pounds. They were followed by Gerald Franklin Sr. and Jr. (37.14pounds) and Tyler Berthold and Joe Gibson (37.12 pounds).

Durkalec on muskies: The guru of the exemplary fishing around the Cleveland Metroparks, Mike Durkalec, and his wife, Elizabeth, are also known for their success at catching and releasing trophy muskies.

Durkalec will be sharing his secrets on Thursday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m. at a meeting of the Ohio Central Basin Steelheaders at the Firehouse Grille and Pub, 2768 Stark Dr., Willoughby Hills. The session is open to the public. Durkalec promises an in-depth presentation on muskie gear and fishing tactics, including casting, jigging and trolling for the mighty muskellunge. He will also focus on the top Ohio muskie waters, as well as a tour of Michigan’s Lake St. Clair.

The Comprehensive Guide to Moscow Nightlife

Moscow’s nightlife scene is thriving, and arguably one of the best the world has to offer – top-notch Russian women, coupled with a never-ending list of venues, Moscow has a little bit of something for everyone’s taste. Moscow nightlife is not for the faint of heart – and if you’re coming, you better be ready to go Friday and Saturday night into the early morning.

This comprehensive guide to Moscow nightlife will run you through the nuts and bolts of all you need to know about Moscow’s nightclubs and give you a solid blueprint to operate with during your time in Moscow.

What you need to know before hitting Moscow nightclubs

Prices in moscow nightlife.

Before you head out and start gaming all the sexy Moscow girls , we have to talk money first. Bring plenty because in Moscow you can never bring a big enough bankroll. Remember, you’re the man so making a fuzz of not paying a drink here or there will not go down well.

Luckily most Moscow clubs don’t do cover fees. Some electro clubs will charge 15-20$, depending on their lineup. There’s the odd club with a minimum spend of 20-30$, which you’ll drop on drinks easily. By and large, you can scope out the venues for free, which is a big plus.

Bottle service is a great deal in Moscow. At top-tier clubs, it starts at 1,000$. That’ll go a long way with premium vodka at 250$, especially if you have three or four guys chipping in. Not to mention that it’s a massive status boost for getting girls, especially at high-end clubs.

Without bottle service, you should estimate a budget of 100-150$ per night. That is if you drink a lot and hit the top clubs with the hottest girls. Scale down for less alcohol and more basic places.

Dress code & Face control

Door policy in Moscow is called “face control” and it’s always the guy behind the two gorillas that gives the green light if you’re in or out.

In Moscow nightlife there’s only one rule when it comes to dress codes:

You can never be underdressed.

People dress A LOT sharper than, say, in the US and that goes for both sexes. For high-end clubs, you definitely want to roll with a sharp blazer and a pocket square, not to mention dress shoes in tip-top condition. Those are the minimum requirements to level the playing field vis a vis with other sharply dressed guys that have a lot more money than you do. Unless you plan to hit explicit electro or underground clubs, which have their own dress code, you are always on the money with that style.

Getting in a Moscow club isn’t as hard as it seems: dress sharp, speak English at the door and look like you’re in the mood to spend all that money that you supposedly have (even if you don’t). That will open almost any door in Moscow’s nightlife for you.

Types of Moscow Nightclubs

In Moscow there are four types of clubs with the accompanying female clientele:

High-end clubs:

These are often crossovers between restaurants and clubs with lots of tables and very little space to dance. Heavy accent on bottle service most of the time but you can work the room from the bar as well. The hottest and most expensive girls in Moscow go there. Bring deep pockets and lots of self-confidence and you have a shot at swooping them.

Regular Mid-level clubs:

They probably resemble more what you’re used to in a nightclub: big dancefloors, stages and more space to roam around. Bottle service will make you stand out more but you can also do well without. You can find all types of girls but most will be in the 6-8 range. Your targets should always be the girls drinking and ideally in pairs. It’s impossible not to swoop if your game is at least half-decent.

Basic clubs/dive bars:

Usually spots with very cheap booze and lax face control. If you’re dressed too sharp and speak no Russian, you might attract the wrong type of attention so be vigilant. If you know the local scene you can swoop 6s and 7s almost at will. Usually students and girls from the suburbs.

Electro/underground clubs:

Home of the hipsters and creatives. Parties there don’t mean meeting girls and getting drunk but doing pills and spacing out to the music. Lots of attractive hipster girls if that is your niche. That is its own scene with a different dress code as well.

What time to go out in Moscow

Moscow nightlife starts late. Don’t show up at bars and preparty spots before 11pm because you’ll feel fairly alone. Peak time is between 1am and 3am. That is also the time of Moscow nightlife’s biggest nuisance: concerts by artists you won’t know and who only distract your girls from drinking and being gamed. From 4am to 6am the regular clubs are emptying out but plenty of people, women included, still hit up one of the many afterparty clubs. Those last till well past 10am.

As far as days go: Fridays and Saturdays are peak days. Thursday is an OK day, all other days are fairly weak and you have to know the right venues.

The Ultimate Moscow Nightclub List

Short disclaimer: I didn’t add basic and electro clubs since you’re coming for the girls, not for the music. This list will give you more options than you’ll be able to handle on a weekend.

Preparty – start here at 11PM

Classic restaurant club with lots of tables and a smallish bar and dancefloor. Come here between 11pm and 12am when the concert is over and they start with the actual party. Even early in the night tons of sexy women here, who lean slightly older (25 and up).

The second floor of the Ugolek restaurant is an extra bar with dim lights and house music tunes. Very small and cozy with a slight hipster vibe but generally draws plenty of attractive women too. A bit slower vibe than Valenok.

Very cool, spread-out venue that has a modern library theme. Not always full with people but when it is, it’s brimming with top-tier women. Slow vibe here and better for grabbing contacts and moving on.

mad house world tour

High-end: err on the side of being too early rather than too late because of face control.

Secret Room

Probably the top venue at the moment in Moscow . Very small but wildly popular club, which is crammed with tables but always packed. They do parties on Thursdays and Sundays as well. This club has a hip-hop/high-end theme, meaning most girls are gold diggers, IG models, and tattooed hip hop chicks. Very unfavorable logistics because there is almost no room no move inside the club but the party vibe makes it worth it. Strict face control.

Close to Secret Room and with a much more favorable and spacious three-part layout. This place attracts very hot women but also lots of ball busters and fakes that will leave you blue-balled. Come early because after 4am it starts getting empty fast. Electronic music.

A slightly kitsch restaurant club that plays Russian pop and is full of gold diggers, semi-pros, and men from the Caucasus republics. Thursday is the strongest night but that dynamic might be changing since Secret Room opened its doors. You can swoop here but it will be a struggle.

mad house world tour

Mid-level: your sweet spot in terms of ease and attractiveness of girls for an average budget.

Started going downwards in 2018 due to lax face control and this might get even worse with the World Cup. In terms of layout one of the best Moscow nightclubs because it’s very big and bottle service gives you a good edge here. Still attracts lots of cute girls with loose morals but plenty of provincial girls (and guys) as well. Swooping is fairly easy here.

I haven’t been at this place in over a year, ever since it started becoming ground zero for drunken teenagers. Similar clientele to Icon but less chic, younger and drunker. Decent mainstream music that attracts plenty of tourists. Girls are easy here as well.

Sort of a Coyote Ugly (the real one in Moscow sucks) with party music and lots of drunken people licking each others’ faces. Very entertaining with the right amount of alcohol and very easy to pull in there. Don’t think about staying sober in here, you’ll hate it.

Artel Bessonitsa/Shakti Terrace

Electronic music club that is sort of a high-end place with an underground clientele and located between the teenager clubs Icon and Gipsy. Very good music but a bit all over the place with their vibe and their branding. You can swoop almost any type of girl here from high-heeled beauty to coked-up hipsters, provided they’re not too sober.

mad house world tour

Afterparty: if by 5AM  you haven’t pulled, it’s time to move here.

Best afterparty spot in terms of trying to get girls. Pretty much no one is sober in there and savage gorilla game goes a long way. Lots of very hot and slutty-looking girls but it can be hard to tell apart who is looking for dick and who is just on drugs but not interested. If by 9-10am you haven’t pulled, it is probably better to surrender.

The hipster alternative for afterparties, where even more drugs are in play. Plenty of attractive girls there but you have to know how to work this type of club. A nicer atmosphere and better music but if you’re desperate to pull, you’ll probably go to Miks.

Weekday jokers: if you’re on the hunt for some sexy Russian girls during the week, here are two tips to make your life easier.

Chesterfield

Ladies night on Wednesdays means this place gets pretty packed with smashed teenagers and 6s and 7s. Don’t pull out the three-piece suit in here because it’s a “simpler” crowd. Definitely your best shot on Wednesdays.

If you haven’t pulled at Chesterfield, you can throw a Hail Mary and hit up Garage’s Black Music Wednesdays. Fills up really late but there are some cute Black Music groupies in here. Very small club. Thursday through Saturday they do afterparties and you have an excellent shot and swooping girls that are probably high.

Shishas Sferum

This is pretty much your only shot on Mondays and Tuesdays because they offer free or almost free drinks for women. A fairly low-class club where you should watch your drinks. As always the case in Moscow, there will be cute girls here on any day of the week but it’s nowhere near as good as on the weekend.

mad house world tour

In a nutshell, that is all you need to know about where to meet Moscow girls in nightlife. There are tons of options, and it all depends on what best fits your style, based on the type of girls that you’re looking for.

The sprawling, mind-boggling metropolis of Russian Moscow has long been one of the theatrical stages on which the great dramas of Europe and Asia have been played out in grand style. Burned by Napoleon in 1812, immortalised by Tolstoy, utilised by the Bolsheviks and championed as a bastion of heroic defiance by the post-war communists, it’s almost hard to believe just how defining the historical events that found their home on Moscow’s streets have been. Moscow tour guides will easily be able to mark the major must-see landmarks on the map, from the onion-domed orthodox Saint Basil's Cathedral, to the political powerhouse of Red Square just next door, while others will be quick to recommend a ride on Moscow’s famous subterranean metro system, or a visit to the UNESCO-attested Novodevichy Convent on the city’s southern side. But Moscow is a city also in the throes of a cultural wrangling between the old and the new. Creative energies abound here: Boho bars and pumping super clubs now occupy the iconic mega structures of the old USSR; high-fashion outlets, trendy shopping malls and luxurious residential districts stand as testimony to a city that’s now the undisputed playground of the world’s super-rich, while sprawling modern art museums dominate the cultural offering of the downtown districts north of the Moskva River.
