Updates for May 2024
Where are Maple Syrup farms/orchards/sugarworks, etc.? Well, they're not in Hawaii or Florida, for sure. They are concentrated in the northeast and upper midwest in the US and the eastern half of Canada, even though maple trees do grow in the northwest. That's why the areas below (in states outside of the Northeast and Midwest) have no listings! Although, there is research to develop trees that can produce sap/syrup in warmed climates.

Renewable Resources
“A husband to the land”, keeping the forest viable, protecting the resources for generations, producing a natural, wildcrafted food. We are producing the same blue ribbon maple syrup, cream, candy and sugar that our family did eighty years ago, using all renewable resources—sap, wood fire and solar power. Our tours last approximately an hour, give or take, depending on the age, size and interest level of the group. Depending on the weather, we will hold the first part of the tour outdoors and the second part indoors. However, if it is too cold or raining/snowing, we hold the entire tour indoors.
You will learn about how the maple industry began, who discovered maple, etc. through some interactive story telling. You will learn about where the sap is stored in trees and what makes the sap flow, as well as how to tap a tree and how the sap collection process works. You will see our filter/pump room and get a description of how we process raw sap prior to starting the boiling process. Our evaporator will be running, and we have a platform that you will be able to go on to see into the pans and hear about how the boiling process works, from the sap pan, to the syrup pan, to drawing off the syrup. You will learn how to determine when the syrup is done, and how it is then filtered, bottled and graded. Throughout this time you will sample raw sap, partially finished syrup and warmed finished syrup.
After learning about syrup, we will also treat you to samples of maple cream, maple candy and maple sugar as we talk about the process of making each of these items. Oftentimes we also have a sample of special ice cream made with our maple syrup by a local ice cream producer – Mad Maggies Ice Cream in North Andover.
There is no charge for the tour – this is just a fun outing!
We run tours continuously every Saturday and Sunday during the month of March, as long as the weather is conducive. We might be able to start tours at the end of February, it all depends on Mother Nature – we need daytime temps in the 40’s and overnights below freezing. We also boil on various week nights, depending on how much sap we have. Any time we are boiling we welcome visitors!
You can drop in any time for a tour, no reservations are required unless you have a group of over 25 people or would like a tour during the week.
To schedule a group tour, please send an email to [email protected] . We aren’t as good at responding to phone messages as we are very busy during this time of the year, so email is your best option.
A Couple More Things…
- We will have syrup, maple cream, maple candy and maple sugar available for sale in the sugar house. We accept cash, checks and credit cards.
- We typically recommend that you wear boots as it can be a bit slushy/muddy on the way back to the sugar house if snow is melting.
- We do not allow pets in the sugar house, as we are producing a food product.
- We are not a restaurant, and therefore do not have any food items – pancakes, etc.
We will try our very best to update our website, our voice mail and our facebook page with the latest info regarding tours and boiling schedules. Hope you can come out and enjoy the sugaring experience with us!

- Visit a real-life sugarhouse on these Vermont maple syrup tours
Each fall, thousands of travelers journey to Vermont for its rolling hills dappled with autumn colors. Much of the vibrant foliage belongs to the sugar maple, Vermont’s state tree and the source of its famous maple syrup. From the first metal sap spout in the 19th century to the local sugarhouses still thriving today, the tradition of harvesting maple syrup every spring is deeply woven into Vermont’s history. Be sure to experience it with a sugarhouse tour when you book one of our Vermont vacation rentals.
Baird Farm – Chittenden
Tucked away on 560 acres, Baird Farm harvests some of Vermont’s finest syrup. The farm produces certified organic syrup via strict USDA and VOF (Vermont Organic Farmers) guidelines. Learn about the process on a guided tour, which you can schedule on their website.
Baird’s gift shop is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day, and the sugarhouse offers free samples anytime. It’s a family operation in a gorgeous corner of the state!

K. Ruane Maple Farm – Tinmouth
K. Ruane Maple Farm is a small, family-run operation where guests are welcome year-round. They love giving tours of their farm and produce a whopping 3,200 gallons of maple syrup every year. If you make it out during open house weekend, you’ll be treated to fresh pancakes topped with their signature syrup.
Sugarbush Cheese and Maple Farm – Woodstock
Around 8,500 trees produce the Luce family’s famous maple syrup at Sugarbush Farm , open to tourists nearly every day of the year. Taste four different grades of syrup as you learn about the sugaring process, and sample some homemade cheddar while you’re at it.
A nature trail winds through the woods, taking you past the farm’s animals and trees. Every part of the year offers something different here, from peak sugaring season to the bustling summer months to enchanted snowy holidays.

Mitch’s Maples – Chester
A sugaring staple for over 70 years, Mitch’s Maples opens their sugarhouse daily to the public, selling their wares and showing off the sugaring process. During the harvest season in the spring, they offer tours on the weekends while the syrup is boiling.
Maple syrup isn’t the only treat to come from trees here—maple candy and maple cream fill the shop’s shelves, too. If you’re craving their sweets after a visit, Mitch’s products can be purchased online, so you can restock your maple stash from anywhere.
Goodrich’s Maple Farm – Cabot
Ever been to a sugar on snow party? Goodrich’s hosts them during the sugaring season when there’s snow on the ground. Here, hot syrup (231 degrees, to be exact) meets fresh snow and instantly caramelizes, turning into chewy taffy candy.
Goodrich’s offers group tours of the farm, too. Just be sure to call in advance to make your reservation. Pick up some of their maple products on the way out as a souvenir for anyone who wasn’t lucky enough to come along.
Merck Forest & Farmland Center – Rupert
Merck Forest and Farmland Center teaches visitors the importance of sustainable farming and forestry, which includes the production of their delicious organic maple syrup. Tour the farm’s 40-acre sugarbush, where about 3,000 taps produce syrup yearly.
Visitors can explore the grounds and even hike on-site. Family-centered events are available year-round, so stick around for farming demonstrations, hiking opportunities, festivals, and more. Of course, sweet syrup can be purchased in their gift shop on your way out.

While there may be some mud in the bush, it’s more important to dress for warmth at this time of year. Wear warm boots and clothing on cold, windy days so you will enjoy your time outside 🙂

Maple Sugaring Tours
Thank you all for a lovely 2024 maple sugaring season tours are now finished and we are looking forward to 2025., freezing nights in the 20s and warm days in the 40s trigger the sugar maple sap run, which starts our sugaring season.
C’mon down and learn the science and history of “sugaring.” Around our campfires, visitors will learn Indigenous people and Colonist historical techniques for making maple sugar. Learn about tree identification, qualities of sap and syrup, how to tap, and more at our outdoor displays and tapped trees. If the weather’s just right, we’ll watch sap dripping into buckets and boiling in our sugar shack.
. . . And even though Mother Nature can’t guarantee the sap run (and boiling) on any given day, tours are still interesting and fun, and offer visitors a fascinating view of this enduring New England tradition.
- Tours open to the public
- 16 spots/tour
- $10 per person
- babes in carriers free
- Private groups, schools and scouts: Email [email protected]

Pure Vermont Maple Syrup from Small Family Farms
Pure vermont maple syrup.
Our maple syrup is traditionally crafted in rustic sugarhouses deep in the rolling hills of Vermont. The sap from the maple trees is collected and then boiled over crackling wood fires with family and friends gathered around. There are no other ingredients, just 100% pure maple syrup.
The families in our collective take great pride in making the best pure maple syrup available. We do not use oil burners, high-brix reverse osmosis machines, or steam boilers. We all farm independently, but we sell collectively under the 'Maple Farmers' label and each bottle is proudly labeled with the name of the small maple farm that made the syrup. Our packaging is eco-friendly and all of our shipments are carbon neutral.

The maple farmers in our collective.
The farmers in The Vermont Maple Farmers Collective are a diverse group of Vermont farmers: we live on dairy farms and vegetable farms; we raise animals and we operate sawmills; we grow cut flowers and we build stone walls; we are plumbers and carpenters. Crafting small-batch pure maple syrup is our common link and our passion.

Pure Vermont Maple Syrup Flavors
The flavors of maple syrup can vary significantly. The terroir of the soil, weather, and processing methods of the tree sap impacts the flavors. Whether it is floral notes, a butterscotch bouquet, or a hint of chocolate, the different flavors of pure unadulterated maple syrup are a delight for the senses.
Why Use Glass Bottles for Maple Syrup?
Taste the Best Maple Syrup
Our pure maple syrup is made with traditional methods on small family farms. The caramelized flavors of maple syrup are exceptional when the batches are small. Most maple syrup is mass produced with high-brix reverse osmosis and steam boilers. It just doesn't taste the same. Vermonters know what makes good maple syrup, and we want to share our pure, unadulterated maple syrup experience with you. You will taste the difference.

Small farms are being overtaken by factory farms and we want to slow that trend. We're cutting out the middle man so that more money goes directly to the farmers who are making this pure Vermont maple syrup. Your purchase directly helps these small family farms in the hills of Vermont.
Help the Environment
Our lives are connected to our forests and the environment. We care for our trees so that they are sustained for our children and grandchildren.
When we make our maple syrup, we use renewable firewood, never fuel oil. Glass bottles are used because they are infinitely recyclable. We pay for carbon neutral shipping because we care.
Let customers speak for us
By far the best maple syrup in Vermont (and possibly the world)! I visited Maple Flower Farm's sugar shack and Cory takes such care and diligent in making a product that is so special. When speaking to him you can hear his passion for producing maple syrup in a conscious and responsible way. The members of the Maple Farmers are truly passionate about teaching people the importance of supporting and investing in small family farms that produce high quality syrup. Plus it tastes like nectar from the gods!
Excellent product. I love Maple syrup & now can enjoy the real flavor over just sweetness. Purchased the dark & very dark. My daughter has used it her granola bar recipe. It's good on cottage cheese, french toast, & of course pancakes. My grandfather was a vegetable, fruit, and pork farmer. I grew up eating from the ground, the fruit tree, and the butcher shop. Now I get a direct connection to the sap. Thanks, I know how hard you work. I wish more people valued farms and farmers.
If it was possible to provide 10 stars I would. My wife and I learned about Maple Farmers in a wonderful article in Vermont Magazine. Thirty minutes later we placed an order and shortly after received a welcoming response from Cory who then followed up the next day with a copy of the newsletter which featured the Howard's farm. What a wonderful way to connect with the people, process and product. To say the syrup is the best we've ever tasted would be an understatement. Being able to learn about the maple farmers, their craft, and to find the locations on an old AAA New England map made several breakfasts even more special. We are so grateful to have learned about the business and will be lifelong customers for sure. Many thanks!
I have ordered multiple quarts of this maple syrup and each time it is incredibly delicious. I always choose the dark and robust for the depth and richness of flavor. The glass bottles are reasonably priced and arrive extremely well packaged-thank you! I will continue to support your small family farms!
Our house stopped buying "pancake syrup" at least 5 years ago but we were buying our maple syrup from Costco. Per a recommendation from frugalwoods.com I tried some of this maple syrup and I cannot believe the difference in taste from the "pure maple syrup" that we would buy at the store. It is sweet and slightly nutty. I also love that it doesn't come in a plastic bottle! We will definitely be making this a permanent switch!
I loved being able to get my maple syrup directly from the Howard family. I also liked that it was in glass bottles. I don't like plastic packaging as I know sometimes it gets into the product. I also liked having a choice of three grades of the syrup to choose from. I will definitely order again. This morning for breakfast I really enjoyed the old-fashioned bread pudding I made, using the maple syrup as the sweetener. My husband really liked it too.
I absolutely love this maple syrup. I stumbled across maple farmers after moving to New Hampshire for grad school, and have been burning through bottles for waffles, cocktails, dressings, and marinades ever since. I've tried and enjoy all three grades but am personally partial to the dark & robust. This stuff is truly a cut above and 100% worth venturing outside the grocery store!
We live in Virginia, so it's hard to come by the real stuff. Sure, we can go to Kroger and pick up some 100% Pure Maple Syrup in a decorative bottle, but there's one problem: flavor. All the big manufacturers (and a rising number of small producers) are using reverse osmosis.
I've heard it said, "It doesn't make a difference in flavor," but I assure you it does. Reverse osmosis imparts an almost "synthetic" flavor in my opinion, which in pure maple syrup is unacceptable. I grew up in western New York State, where my dad boiled sugar maple sap all the way down to syrup every spring; no reverse osmosis used.
So, I was very pleased to find this website and can report that we love the syrup we got from Maple Flower Farm. It's the real deal with none of the reverse osmosis flavor found in everything else down here. Not only that, but it allows us to support traditional, small-scale manufacturers. Thank you!
My husband and I received a bottle of maple syrup as a gift, and we are blown away by the quality. The flavor is so much richer than any of the maple syrups we have tried previously. We will definitely be back for more once this bottle runs out!
I have so enjoyed this syrup. The flavor is very pure, rich and true. I highly recommend that you order some today. It is delicious on oatmeal, pancakes and even ice cream. I have to resist the urge to just drink it!

Bethlehem, NH
The nh maple experience.
During the last three weekends of March and the first weekend of April, The Rocks welcomes visitors of all ages to explore the New Hampshire Maple Experience. This hands-on program leads participants through the fascinating history of the sugaring tradition, from techniques to gather and boil sap used by Native Americans to those employed by the earliest European settlers and right up to the most modern methods for turning sap into syrup.
Visitors will learn how to identify and tap a sugar maple tree, enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride through the historic estate, and talk with a fourth-generation sugar maker as he plies his trade in the sweet-scented steam of a working sugar house. Next door to the sugarhouse, the interactive New Hampshire Maple Museum displays maple sugaring tools, from historic to modern.
Of course, no Maple Experience would be complete without sampling the finished product. We pair our own maple syrup with fresh cider donuts and a sour pickle – to offset the sweetness of the syrup – for a unique tasting experience.
