The Paper Kites Announce 2024 Australian Tour

The Paper Kites have announced a tour of their native Australia playing theatres across the country in June 2024. The tour, their first locally in over two years, comes in support of their sixth studio album At the Roadhouse . It will feature an extended eight-piece version of the group, billed as The Paper Kites & The Roadhouse Band. A full run of dates and ticketing information can be found below.

The tour will include a performance at Brisbane venue The Tivoli , which was recently announced as part of the venue’s Open Season programming for 2024. It will also see the band return to Sydney’s Enmore Theatre for the first time since 2017 and Melbourne’s Forum Theatre for the first time since 2019 .

The Paper Kites – ‘The Sweet Sound of You’

The tour will mark the band’s first time performing in Australia with The Roadhouse Band, which is a trio of auxiliary musicians composed of vocalist/keyboardist/percussionist Hannah Cameron, vocalist/guitarist/percussionist Chris Panousakis and pedal steel player/guitarist Matt Dixon.

After being brought in to play on At the Roadhouse , the band decided to incorporate the Roadhouse Band into live shows supporting the album. The octet played its first shows together across North America in 2023.

Australia’s biggest indie-folk band, The Paper Kites, are hitting home soil in 2024. Frontier Touring is proud to announce that the Melbourne-born band will return to Australia for a series of special headline shows this June.

2023 saw the band release their sixth studio album and most poignant project to date -   At The Roadhouse . Stumbling across an abandoned heritage venue in the small Australian town of Campbell’s creek in 2022, the band repurposed the space into a venue (The Roadhouse) and embarked on a month-long residency – binging this album project to life. Writing and recording in the barn behind The Roadhouse, word soon got around that the band were in town and weekends became a chance to perform the songs and allow them to evolve. An approach to songwriting and producing the band had never explored before, At The Roadhouse is a project deeply connected to community with smoky vocals and a magnetic groove that conjures the spirit of old-time country and blues.

Last in Australia in 2022 performing sold-out shows across the country, Melbourne locals The Paper Kites will return this June, joined by The Roadhouse Band. Due to play at this year’s Bluesfest in Byron Bay, the band will then embark on their European tour with multiple sold-out dates before a highly anticipated return home.

Australia’s biggest indie-folk band,   The Paper Kites,   are hitting home soil in 2024.   Frontier Touring   today announce the Melbourne-born band will return to Australia for a series of special headline shows this June.

Performing alongside   The Roadhouse Band   in what will be their first Australian shows together, The Paper Kites will kick off at   Freo.Social   on   Saturday 8 June , heading to   Brisbane’s The Tivoli   on   Friday 14 June ,   Enmore Theatre, Sydney   on   Saturday 15 June , to   Forum Melbourne   on   Friday 21 June , before a final show at   Castlemaine’s Theatre Royal   on   Saturday 22 June . ​

2010 saw the debut EP release for The Paper Kites – Sam Bentley, Christina Lacy, David Powys, Sam Rasmussen and Josh Bentley – which yielded global attention with the song   Bloom   hitting platinum certification in the US (and subsequently going platinum in 6 other countries, including Australia). Tallying over half a billion streams to date, the success of ‘ Bloom ’ is still felt fourteen years on. ​

Following on from their trailblazing debut, The Paper Kites commanded the global stage, redefining the growing folk country scene and quietly amassing a huge global audience of over 8 million monthly listeners on Spotify alone. Releasing full-length projects,   States   (2013),   twelvefour   (2015),   On the Train Ride Home   (2018),   On The Corner Where You Live   (2018), and   Roses   (2021), the band garnered nominations in their home country from the ARIA awards and J Awards, alongside consistently sold-out tours across the globe.

Hands down the best concert I have ever attended. Tall Heights the opening act was insane, the harmonies, and instruments were out of this world. The lighting on stage was magnificent and the creativity of the different ways of playing this songs were beautiful. One sang was sang with no microphones, just a two instruments and two voices and it was breathtaking. The Paper Kites were stunning, again the lighting on the stage was so creative and the ways the instruments were utilized was marvellous. Not to mention that the lead singer was absolutely hilarious. All of the vocals were mesmerizing, and during the encore Tall Heights and The Paper Kites collaborated on one song, one microphone, one guitar and seven voices, absolutely wondrous. Bravo!

The Paper Kites did a beautiful acoustic version of Bloom that knocked my socks off. Their lighting game was on point, setting a beautiful mood. I felt like I was inside a lava lamp.

The true star though in my opinion was the opener, Harrison Storm, whose voice was pure butter and his guitar lulled me into a transitive state. Intense!

What a great gig. The lead connected with the audience and made quiet jokes and observations to the delight of an already accepting audience. There was a mix of tempos and all songs delivered effortlessly.

The venue gives a intimate feel and the group added to that. Some numbers given an ethereal feel. Almost spiritual and there was a feel of love and peace abounding.

I'll look to go to the next gig that they muted. Thanks chaps. Love back at yer

The Paper Kites is an indie-folk band hailing from Melbourne, Australia. It consists of songwriters and band members Sam Bentley, Christina Lacy, Dave Powys, Sam Rasmussen and Josh Bentley. The Paper Kites are known for their dreamy melodies, lush instrumentation, anthemic choruses and poetic imagery. Their most popular releases so far include their 2012 EP Woodland, their 2013 record debut States, their 2016 album Twelvefour, and their 2018 follow-up album On The Corner Where You Live.
