Ratings and Reviews
Worked - then stops working.
I downloaded this app a couple months before my cruise, and it worked fine. Then about seven days before the cruise, the app was not operational. It would not log me in. I could login through my laptop, but not through my mobile device. Poor design and substandard
Translation
The app started out here in French and it took a while to determine how to change it to English
App not work
I had it all set up a month ago and it worked perfectly, but for the past 2 weeks an error message pops up. I tried deleting and uploading it again and rebooting my phone. The app is broken. I’m going on one of their cruises in June. I hope they fix it soon.

Ponant app for Paul Gauguin cruise

We have an upcoming cruise in June. Me and my husband both downloaded the Ponant app (iphone and android), but it says we don’t have upcoming cruises. I reported this to Ponant, but so far no results. They only said, if I want to book an excursion, they will add them to our booking.
I don’t know what you can do with this app, is it crucial for us? do we need to make an online check in (when does it usually open)? Do you get via app some important information…
Will we get some document via post to the home address?
if anyone knows this, please let me know. I don’t get a very good feedback from Ponant.
just to say, we are from Europe, so we had to reserve the cruise via Ponant. thank you 😄

Are you unable to use the PG website to book your excursions? That's how I've always booked excursions on the PG in the past, and from what I can tell, it still seems to work that way even now that Ponant owns PG. My cruise shows in my account on the PG website, and it appears that I will be able to book my excursions there once I'm 60 days out from my cruise.
I have not heard of any valid reason for using the Ponant app for PG cruises. Is this a Europe-specific thing, perhaps?
Thank you Leejnd4.
I didn’t go directly to the PG site, but will try this, maybe this works.
In Europe you can only book PG cruise through Ponant.
kleenrcruise
Hi We were told to call PG to schedule our excursions (60 days out) The website shows our excursions but their site is not great, you can't click on them to see a description etc. I booked our excursions so long ago I wanted to read them now that we are getting close and I had to go back through the main site and find them. We did a Virgin Cruise last summer that was very app focused (almost too much in my opinion) but I get the feeling that PG and Ponant are a little behind in this area.

We also called and booked our excursions last month directly with PG about 60 days out. My understanding is that is the only way you can book their excursions.

Not worth the money: amateur hour on a 5 star ship
10 nites Seychelles and Zanzibar. The ship was lovely. The food was great. Most of the staff tried to be as accomodating as possible. BUT it was amateur hour much of the time. Departments on the ship had problems communicating with one another. Too many times was told "not my job." Planning for contingencies (bad weather, equipment problems, local access issues) was all done on the fly. French passengers were prioritized such that English speakers were denied meaningful access to the highlight of the trip: Aldabra atoll. HQ promised communication re the issues but one week later nothing but dead silence. Sorry but when one charges a premium price the value provided needs to be much better. The off ship experience was so disorganized and disappointing that it barely reached 2 stars. On a 5 star ship. With 6 star pricing. Ponant needs significant improvement before it can be recommended. The problems start at HQ and HQ is too proud to acknowledge the need for change. So much potential but not worth the money. Update: AFTER this review was published I received an offer for a 20% discount and a demand that I take down the review. Ponant senior management has far too little understanding of the need for timely communication and trust. I stand by the review above

Dodged a bullet
Incredibly slow at processing a refund to the extent that I think this is their policy rather than an honest mistake. I recieved a partial refund (did they hope I would not notice the shortfall) but no one available to explain where the rest of my money is. Whole team in a meeting for 30 mins and will call you back - fair enough. Several hours later I call again to be told whole team is in a meeting for 30 minutes and they will call back. Beyond frustrated with the incompetence, poor communication and lack of service. Is this the sort of treatment you want from a luxury cruise line - if not give them a miss. I really feel I dodged a bullet if their admin is this bad before you sail I hate to think what sailing with them would be like

We apologize for the delay in processing your refund. Your experience is not up to our service standards and we are working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding. The PONANT team
Penguins, whales and amazing scenery
Ponant took us to Antarctica in Jan 2023. (From Dunedin to Hobart) We absolutely loved it. The ship Le Soleil has great viewing decks and lounges, the cabins are nice, the food fantastic and all the staff - both on board and the booking agents on shore - were just the best. We have cruised with other cruise lines - Seabourn and Silversea amongst them - but Ponant is now one of our favourites.

Great small and picturesque ports of call. We like the personal touch, shuttles into town and town maps should we not do the offered excursions. Sometimes finding to ship for the initial embarkation and the process has been a bit chaotic. Like the French and when local wines are offered.

Fantastically organized, great food and accommodation, friendly staff and great excursions from the ship. A smaller vessel with a maximum of about 280 passengers is certainly the way to go. Definitely worth the extra money if you’ve ever thought about a cruise but dread the thought of a massive floating listeria palace.

Cruising in style.
Great experience, liked very much the smaller more intimate cruise and the French style and cuisine. The excursions were all very good, with English speaking guides for us. Already booked the next cruise with Ponant.

Beware of doing any village ‘tours’ on the Suvasuva (Fiji) part of a Pacific tour. We just paid USD110 per head to have a tour guide expound about Mr Tony Robbins and his programs on the island. There was little cultural insight, rather it was 4 hours of real estate information, ie which American owns which house, and of course, more of Mr Tony Robbins. It was the worst organised tour I’ve ever done, and would caution people.

Ponant is the best cruising company
Ponant is the best cruising company we have encountered up to today. They produce a real 5 star hotel environment on their small ships, giving an exclusive experience. Cabins, food, drinks, and - most important - employees are just perfect.

Follow up on Ponant , be wary!…
I am following up on a report I sent regarding promise from Ponant following cancelled trip blamed on Covid. If you look at report Ponant were going to invite us to a short Cruise with them and once again they have let us down. We love Cruising and will be taking our 36th cruise in 2 weeks time onboard Queen Mary. Ponant being new to UK were offering trip to Rejkiavik from Edinburgh. Paid for Cruise our return flight and Hotel in Rejkiavik. Cruise was cancelled they say due to Covid but the same ship on same due was now due to be in Copenhagen, please be wary of Ponant!

Ponant is a 5 star hotel and a 2 star Michelin restaurant on the water. The food and wine are incredible!! The service was fantastic. The shore excursions were well curated with expert guides. A wonderful experience!

Great experience
Excellent staff, excellent food, excellent wines. Only somewhat negative is the bar staff - Eastern European - need to smile more, like your Filipino staff on other ships.

Fabulous Service.
Service....service.. service. Great food. Only very small gripe was that many of the day's outings were geared up towards snorkeling/diving, so alternatives would have been useful

Best Cruising - Hands Down !
Our first cruise with Ponant from Alaska to Canada in 2019 was spectacular. The attention to detail was second to none in every aspect, from bow to stern, restaurants, entertainment, bridge, guide talks, escorted excursions, accommodation, and the food and service was exceptional After just one cruise it’ll be only Ponant for us. Really looking forward to our next one coming up !!!! Brian & Pam

Our Kimberly Cruise was fabulous
Our Kimberly Cruise was fabulous. The ship, Le Soleal, was very comfortable, with choice of casual or formal restaurants. The expedition leaders and all of the science experts were accessible, friendly and helpful. We learned so much on each of the daily expeditions. Not to be missed, in my view.
Super cruise line
Super cruise line, certainly the best experience we have had. First a trip from Panama thru the canal and on to Lima. Next a quick backwards S from Aukland down the Easter edge of North Island, thru the strait, and the western fiords around to end in Dunedin. Our third trip was an exploratory trip into the New Zealand fiords and south with 13 naturalists around the sun-Antarctic Islands. Love the quality of experience, live-aboard life, and the details the line and especially the expert crew and officers. Food, conversation, programs, and safety remains second to none thru all three voyages. Love the practical quality and style, in attitude and service. No unnecessary pretentiousness. Sign us up.
Ponant Refusing Refunds
The Seychelles has banned cruises there through 2022. Until they decide to cancel, we can't get a refund per their Terms and Conditions. However they have refused refunds for all of their recent cancellations even though they are legally obligated to do so only offering Future Cruise Credits. Upon cancellation by Ponant, we will file a credit card dispute for a refund. Additionally, our trip insurer said they will give us a refund if Ponant will not. The world is watching you Ponant. Update: We were able to get a full refund from our credit card company without any problem.

From the moment we embarked on the yacht until embarkation we were made to feel welcome and like family. The hardware is delightful, the staff attentive and the cuisine outstanding. Only bug was the little additional charges for some drinks especially when you were invited to a cocktail party and then charged for champagne, best to have this additional cost included. We have already booked another cruise to Norway and next year French Polynesia.

Paul gauguin cruises announces Enrichment experts For 2025 boutique crossing collection
Paul gauguin's 2025 boutique crossing collection: an encounter with experts of polynesia and beyond.
PAUL GAUGUIN Cruises, French Polynesia’s destination expert, unveils the rich roster of expert speakers, scientists, and culturalists who will host the line’s 2025 Boutique Crossing Collection – three unique itineraries cruising between Fiji, Bali, Singapore, Papua New Guinea and Australia.
Enriching voyages with insight into a destination’s unique culture and personality is a key pillar of The Gauguin Experience. From culture and geography to the environment, the wilderness, and the wildlife of some of the most fascinating places on Earth, the expert speakers chosen for our 2025 Boutique Crossing Collection have the same passion for authentic discovery as we do and sharing it with our guests.
Susan Robison, General Manager, Sales and Marketing for PAUL GAUGUIN Cruises
Guest Experts
From a Nobel Peace Prize recipient and doctor of cultural geography to acclaimed National Geographic photographers, wildlife filmmakers, and best-selling authors, the distinguished talent will host engaging conversations and informative lectures with guests sailing aboard Le Paul Gauguin on immersive journeys that balance shoreside discovery and relaxing days at sea.
Dr. David Keeling is the Distinguished Professor of Cultural Geography at Western Kentucky University and a recipient of the Alan Hay Award from the Royal Geographical Society. His conversational lectures delve into topics from ancient trade routes and WWII Pacific Island battles to Papua New Guinea’s post-colonial development, Timor Leste’s independence, Indonesia’s identity, and more.
John Hay , Nobel Peace Prize recipient for his work on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), offers a big picture view of the Pacific, from its fisheries and land tenure systems to understanding the ‘garbage patch’ and the responses to climate change. His wife, Helen Henry , author of My Kotuku of the South Seas: Living and Loving in Rarotonga , provides cultural insights while they both will share their personal stories on a wide range of South Pacific topics.
Having explored all seven continents, photographer/filmmaker Bob Krist has been stranded on an Icelandic glacier, charged by bulls in India, and knighted during a Trinidad voodoo ceremony. His lectures range from the informative—Bali’s unique culture; to the engaging—the misadventures of a National Geographic photographer, and how to travel authentically during the age of Instagram.
Professional astrologer and internationally acclaimed author, Leslie McGuirk is known for her holistic interdisciplinary approach to mental and spiritual growth. Her popular talk on astrology as human design (and not fortune-telling) makes her a sought-after corporate speaker and a frequent presenter at Mexico’s Rancho La Puerta, a #1 Travel + Leisure international destination spa.
National Geographic photographer/filmmaker and Explorers Club member Jad Davenport has been on assignment in more than 160 countries, from covering Middle East conflicts to studying Canadian Arctic polar bears and wolves. A true explorer, he’ll speak of his quests to find Eroni Kumana, the Solomon Islander who saved castaway JFK.
Adventure writer Peter Heller is the New York Times best-selling author of The Dog Stars and The River, among others, and his non-fiction books range from surfing to kayaking Tibet’s Tsangpo Gorge. With the storytelling wit of an award-winning writer, his lectures engage with topics like surviving a career as an adventure journalist, why we go into the wild, and talks on several of his novels.
2025 Adventures: Exclusive Cruises with Le Paul Gauguin
The three crossings are part of Le Paul Gauguin ’s 2025 full voyage schedule comprised of 29 cruises offering 11 unique itineraries of 7- to 20-nights, including a new 10-night More Tuamotus & the Society Islands featuring another first for the line – an overnight stay in Fakarava, Tuamotus, famous for its UNESCO Marine Biosphere.

We did a Virgin Cruise last summer that was very app focused (almost too much in my opinion) but I get the feeling that PG and Ponant are a little behind in this area. We also called and booked our excursions last month directly with PG about 60 days out. My understanding is that is the only way you can book their excursions.
