Only 15 miles west of Las Vegas, Red Rock Canyon is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the Vegas Strip. Join us on a tour of Red Rock Canyon and experience the rugged beauty of the Canyon's iconic red rock formations, the vibrantly colored Calico Hills, and the peaks of Keystone Thrust from the comfort of an air-conditioned luxury SUV .

Red Rock Canyon SUV Tour

Why visit red rock canyon.

Red Rock Canyon's distinctive red rock formations—some of which reach 3,000 feet tall—offer breathtaking views of some of the Southwest's most impressive geology, including the Keystone Thrust Fault, Mount Wilson, and the colorful Calico Hills. Visitors can see them all from the 13 mile scenic loop that travels through Red Rock Canyon.

Red Rock Canyon was Nevada's first National Conservation Area, and it's now one of the most popular in the country with over 1 million visitors every year. If you're looking for an off-the-Strip adventure just outside of Las Vegas, hop on a guided tour to Red Rock Canyon to see it's dramatic, brilliantly-colored formations up close, all from the comfort of a luxury air conditioned SUV. Tours depart daily from the Las Vegas Strip.

Home | Travel | North America | United States | Nevada | Red Rock Canyon | 5 Best Tours to Red Rock Canyon from Las Vegas

The next time you’re in Sin City, consider taking a  tour to Red Rock Canyon from Las Vegas . Located in the eastern Mojave Desert,  Red Rock Canyon   is just 15 miles from the city, so it’s one of the best  day trips from Las Vegas .

For someone like me, visiting Red Rock is the perfect  thing to do outside Las Vegas , especially when I need a nature fix. Even though it’s so close to the Strip, Red Rock is wildly different from the lights and noise of Las Vegas Boulevard.

Here, you can explore the arid desert landscape and all its flora and fauna. Many  Las Vegas excursions to Red Rock Canyon  include beautiful views of the rock walls and Aztec sandstone cliffs. Our tour guide Kevin was professional, friendly and knowledgeable about the State Park, and it's flora and fauna. This ensured our experience of visiting the Mojave Desert was realxing and unique. A simple lunch is also included. If hiking is not for you, then this tour is; it was relaxing with photo opportunities aplenty along the 13 mile scenic drive through Red Rock Canyon. No matter the season, don't forget water and appropriate sun protection; it is a desert after all. Read more Written January 19, 2021

  • 412kelseya 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Grand Canyon West tour with Jack I did the Grand Canyon west tour with Jack as my guide. The bus was great, with climate control and a bathroom for emergencies. No more than 2 hours between stops so it wasn’t a bad road trip from Vegas. I did think it was a little weird that the bus had no garbage so we were expected to carry all of our trash on and off the bus with us. Hoover dam was a little disappointing - the view we had when we stopped and got off the bus was nothing like the pictures that I have seen in the past But as I understand, that is due to security measures put in place to protect the Hoover dam itself. The Grand Canyon (West) was great- I did the skywalk which was more expensive than I expected but I am assuming that is due to the decreased tourism from China with the COVID19 outbreak. I did not dress for the 60 MPH winds in the grand canyon so I was freezing the entire time we were there. The 4 hours we spent at the Grand Canyon itself almost seemed too long to me, as we were one of the first buses there at around 9:30 AM and did not leave until 1:30 PM. I was not feeling well the day of the tour and wanted to sleep on the bus Ride there and back ( no offense to my very knowledgeable tour guide Jack) but could not because he was talking almost the entire way there, which I had not been expecting. The other issue was he was constantly referring to pictures on his phone, which I could not see as I was sitting in the middle of the bus, and talking about them. I did not get much out of this. If he had been able to put the pictures up on the TV screens in the bus, that would have been different. The main reason I am giving this tour 3 stars is because I wanted to be dropped off at the hotel closest to In and Out Burger upon returning to Las Vegas. I told Jack this, and he insisted that I go back to my hotel (Treasure Island) that was in the center strip as it was probably the closest location. Well, come to find out, the closer hotel would have been the Linq or the Flamingo and he was dropping people off from my tour at both of those hotels so it would have been easy enough to take me as well. I understand that it is only a 15 minute walk from the Treasure Island, but when your feet are covered with blisters from 3 straight days of walking around Las Vegas it really helps to do as little walking as possible :) TLDR: desert canyon tours is great! Just dress warmly for the Grand Canyon, don’t expect a great view of the Hoover Dam, and don’t buy the VIP option as I am still not sure what that even did for me. And don’t plan on sleeping the whole time on the bus as you won’t be able to. Read more Written March 9, 2020

6 – Red Rock Canyon sunset tours

sunset tours in Red Rock Canyon

Red Rock Canyon is beautiful no matter when you visit – but there’s something particularly magical about the sun bouncing on the red rock formations as sunset approaches. Luckily for visitors, there are many different ways to catch the sunset in the canyons .

The quickest and easiest one is via a helicopter tour, which will take you right over the canyon for stunning photo opportunities . Some helicopter Red Rock Canyon tours even offer a landing option, so you can jump off and admire the reds and yellows dancing over the cliffs as the sun sets.

Longer tours (up to 5 hours) take you right into the heart of the Red Rock Canyon Park for a sunset horseback ride or a Jeep off-road adventure . You’ll have an opportunity to enjoy the rugged beauty of the park and see native wildlife up close.

Enjoy a western-style campfire barbecue complete with BBQ and s’mores (in some of the tours only). Ride the same trails cowboys were on hundreds of years ago and discover the unique beauty of the dessert as the stars come out.

I spent many years traveling the globe and visiting some of the world’s most magnificent cities, including Paris, Rome, Tokyo, Shanghai, London, and Las Vegas.

When I visited Las Vegas for the first time, I was immediately attracted to the glamour and magic of Sin City. It was unlike any other city I had ever visited because of its bright lights, beautiful hotel resorts, and the variety of entertainment shows and tourist activities.

One visit was all it took for me to move to Las Vegas and make it my primary residence. Since then, I have made it my mission to share everything beautiful and outstanding about Las Vegas with the rest of the world. That way, people will be encouraged to visit Las Vegas and experience the city’s magic for themselves.

Wildlife officials round up horses and burros at Red Rock Herd Management Area

red rock tours in vegas

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Wild horses and burros were rounded up on the Red Rock Herd Management Area, about 20 miles west of Las Vegas, on Wednesday.

According to the Bureau of Land Management, operations using temporary bait and water traps consisting of a series of corral panels stocked with water and forage. They added that no helicopters were used.

This comes after a victory in U.S. District Court for wild horse advocates , where a judge ruled the BLM failed to adopt a legal herd management plan before 31 mustangs died during a roundup last summer.

Based on BLM numbers, the land has an "appropriate management level" of 16 to 27 wild horses and 29 to 49 wild burros. As of March 2024, BLM officials said there are currently 114 wild horses and 191 burros within and directly outside the management area.

On Wednesday, BLM officials stated they would remove 92 wild horses, 70 wild burros, and treat up to 10 mares with GonaCon Equine, a fertility control vaccine, before being released back to the range along with up to 10 stallions.

"This gather will allow us to manage wild horses and burros in the Red Rock Herd Management Area at an appropriate management level for the area,” said Nicholas Pay, Pahrump Field Manager. “As always, the BLM is committed to conducting safe and humane gather operations as we work to bring herd size more in line with what the resources of the area can support."

All animals identified for removal were taken to the Ridgecrest Regional Wild Horse and Burro Corrals in Ridgecrest, California. Once they arrive at the facility, the animals will be checked by a veterinarian and readied for the BLM's wild horse and burro adoption and sales program.

The most recent gather on the Red Rock HMA was in 2019.

Rep. Dina Titus stated she was against the round-up since it is "based on unreliable population numbers and could lead to unnecessary deaths."

Today @BLMNational will round up wild horses and burros just 20 miles outside Las Vegas in the Red Rock HMA. The roundup is based on unreliable population numbers and could lead to unnecessary deaths. I am committed to keeping these icons of the West on the range. — Dina Titus (@repdinatitus) April 24, 2024
