Slovakia Bike Tours
Explore slovakia on the best guided cycling tours.
Slovakia represents the “hidden” part of Eastern Europe. Indeed, one couple who has traveled with us on twelve bicycling tours and three Expeditions have pronounced the Krakow to Budapest tour which features Slovakia, as their favorite of all!
Slovakia nestles into the southern slopes of the High Tatra and Carpathian Mountains and features the Low Tatra Mountains as well. We bicycle around the High Tatra and over the easy, forest-clad Low Tatra mountains on our way to Hungary. Traveling in Slovakia features traditional wooden architecture, traditional cuisine and local costumes.
Slovakia separated from the Czech Republic during the “Velvet Revolution” of 1993 and is struggling to reclaim its identity and place in the “new Europe.” Join us to discover this hidden and changing corner of the world by bicycle.

Making Slovakia affordable
Trips only include what you need like accommodation, meals, bikes on cycle trips, luggage transfers, maps and route directions on self guided trips and an experienced local guide for group trips, as well as the peace of mind that comes with complete backup and support.
Explore Slovakia at your own pace
On self guided trips you can expect to receive up-to-date and well researched route notes and maps, seamless luggage transfers and competitive pricing on all essential services. Many self guided trips also have daily departure dates, allowing you to enjoy the convenience and flexibility a self guided trip offers.
Enjoy flexibility & choices
Cycling or walking, 2 star or 4 star, small groups or self guided, land or sea - we can help you explore Europe exactly the way you want.
Often family run, these charming hotels range from 2 to 4 stars and provide access to local living thanks to your hosts. The hospitality is generous and their local knowledge is invaluable. Where possible, we choose locations that add to your experience.
Bed & breakfasts (B&Bs)
Simple yet rich in local character, the B&Bs chosen are clean, comfortable and run by hosts that help add to your experience.
Refuges or gite hostels
Used mainly on mountain walks, these convivial places add to the atmosphere of your journey through the mountains. Dorms may sleep up to 40 people and the beds are often bunk beds. Linen and blankets are provided and bathrooms are shared. Private rooms may be available, although private gite rooms still use shared bathrooms.
Think of it as your floating hotel, where each day you experience a different sunrise and sunset location and you unpack only once. Berths range from two lower or bunk bed style but can be upgraded to larger berths with double beds. The bar and dining area is always a popular hangout at the end of each day's activity. The crew includes an onboard cook.

A simpler time
Slovakia bike tours.
With hills, mountains and the Danube River, Slovakia is a popular destination for cycling tours. Many paved bike paths ensure most everyone enjoys a smooth ride. You can easily see more of the country’s assets without feeling rushed. Many bike tour routes span neighboring countries, including the Czech Republic, Poland, Austria and Hungary.
For some, a visit to Slovakia means a trip to a simpler time, away from the crazed hustle of the city. The countryside is an idyllic and serene place with lush meadows and vibrant hills. Nature lovers will enjoy the wildlife watching in the countryside while city slickers can indulge in the nightclubs and high-end shopping of Bratislava.
“Find everything from natural treasures and historical monuments to rich folk culture and modern entertainment in the busy city streets. Enjoy the beauty and unique atmosphere that Slovakia has to offer.”

Who Stands behind Bike Slovakia
10+ years of experience: you will be in good hands.
Let me tell you a bit about Bike Slovakia self-guided tours. They were founded by Braňo Chrenka, a co-founder of the Authentic Slovakia Tours . Together with his brother Peter, we operate private and small-group guided tours in Bratislava since 2010. Our team of enthusiastic local guides has been showing off-the-beaten-path Bratislava to the guests from around the world. Besides driving our classic communist-era Škoda vehicles, we cycle to the former Iron Curtain area of Bratislava, the largest socialist housing district and other hidden spots.
Founders' Behind the Scenes
I have started my bike journeys in the late 1990’s, long before I started to dream about Bike Slovakia tours. My first experience was when I was 15 and it was a 3-day trip with a friend from my home town of Bratislava along the Little Carpathians to our summer house and to the Morava region of the neighbouring Czechia. The big launch was however in year 2000, when we cycled through the whole Slovakia. Next seasons, other bike journeys followed: through Czechia, to Croatia, Poland, Baltics, Romania, 2 months across western Europe to Portugal, 1 month across eastern Europe to Istanbul, Albania, Macedonia, Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Georgia, Armenia, Israel/Palestine, Ireland, Cyprus, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan.
About Bike Slovakia: Origins of the Self-Guided Tours and Routes
The idea of a bike route across Slovakia came up to my mind in 2019, after cycling the Alpe Adria Cycle Route from Austria to Italy. Friend of mine has inspired me by his enthusiasm for a gravel bike route, too. Then the Covid pandemic hit the world in 2020. Travel restrictions created proper conditions to stay in Slovakia and plan the routes. I explored the Mountain Route in four stages with my friends and travelled the Road Route with my wife in two stages during summer.
Autumn and winter 2020 brought some rain and time to work on all the essential things to make the Bike Slovakia project a reality. I cut the videos, made a website, contacted local partners for accommodation, bike rental and luggage transfers and searched for international partners to spread the word about the tours and routes. And voilà, here we are! I am looking forward to share my idea of the cycling route in Slovakia and inspiring you for an ultimate bike adventure in Central Europe!

Tour of Turkey: Lonardi wins chaotic stage 3 sprint, Van Poppel relegated from first
Polti-Kometa sprinter celebrates win and race lead after initial second place in Marmaris
Danny van Poppel (Bora-Hansgrohe) sprinted to victory on stage 3 of the Tour of Turkey , from a reduced peloton after two late climbs had disrupted the finish for the pure sprinters.
The Dutchman celebrated his first win of the season and 21st of his career in Marmaris, though his celebrations soon ended when UCI race judges relegated him from first place after moving across the road and squeezing Giovanni Lonardi (Polti-Kometa) against the barriers during a chaotic, curving run to the finish.
Race organisers then announced that Lonardi had been awarded the stage win with Van Poppel relegated to 81st and last in the reduced peloton.
The relegation means that Lonardi, already the points classification leader, is also the new overall race leader. He beats Enrico Zanoncello (VF Group-Bardiani CSF-Faizanè) to the stage win, with the Bardiani rider also in second overall at four seconds down. Stage 2 winner Max Kanter (Astana Qazaqstan) rounds out the podium, while fellow German Henri Uhlig (Alpecin-Deceuninck) lies third overall, level on time with Zanoncello.
The 147km stage from Fethiye to Marmaris was another stage suited to the fastmen, though with a third-category climb just over 30km from the line and another second-category test 13km out, it would be one for the versatile sprinters. Indeed, Sam Welsford (Bora-Hansgrohe) and Mark Cavendish (Astana Qazaqstan) failed to survive the attacks and high pace on the climb, while Fabio Jakobsen (DSM Firmenich-PostNL) finished 11th in the sprint.
It took some time for the breakaway to form on the 147.7km stage, with Filippo Conca (Alpecin-Deceuninck) leading the move after just over 50km of racing. The Italian got away with Willie Smit (China Glory), Antoine Berlin (Bike Aid), and Konrad Czabok (Mazowsze Serce Polski) to form the break of the day, taking a two-minute lead.
Alpecin-Deceuninck and Bora-Hansgrohe both put in the work in the peloton to keep the move within grasp, dragging the break to within a minute as they hit the first of the day's two categorised climbs.
On that hill, Conca proved the strongest man from the lead quartet, leaving his companions behind to go solo over the top and on the way to the second climb. Berlin gave chase along with Samuele Zoccarato (VF Group-Bardiani CSF-Faizanè), with the pair among a flurry of attackers jumping from the peloton between the climbs.
Berlin and Zoccarato would be joined by Abay, Teugels, and Cavanagh before the final climb, with the quintet teaming up with Conca on the way up. The enlarged lead group wouldn't last long out front, however, as more attacks came from behind on the way up, including from Mark Donovan (Q36.5) and Paul Double (Polti-Kometa).
Bora-Hansgrohe kept control of the situation, though, chasing down more attacks as the race hit the flat final 10km. The German team were joined by Polti-Kometa and Astana Qazaqastan in leading the peloton towards the final sprint, though it was Alpecin-Deceuninck who took charge inside the final kilometre.
The dash to the line was a messy one and the Dutch squad ended up leading out Van Poppel with their own sprinter Uhlig lost further back.
Van Poppel looked the strongest from the sprinters left to contest the win. He cross the line first, celebrating and completing the post-race interviews to boot, though he wouldn't last long as the stage's official winner, with race judges quickly deciding that his moves in the dash for the line were illegal.
