What’s In The Bag: Shane Lowry

Published: 11 September 2022 Last updated: 23 March 2024

We review the golf equipment used by Major champion and Ryder Cup star Shane Lowry.

We review the golf equipment used by Major champion and Ryder Cup star Shane Lowry.

What’s in the bag of six-time European tour winner and Major champion Shane Lowry? Today’s Golfer reviews what’s in the bag.

Jump To: WITB Lowry

Lowry has enjoyed a fantastic few years, winning his first Major title at the 2019 Open at Royal Portrush and making a real impact on his Ryder Cup debut despite Europe’s defeat at Whistling Straits in 2021.

Today's Golfer What's In The Bag is brought to you in association with Callaway Chrome Tour and Chrome Tour X golf balls.

Now the Irishman has added the 2022 BMW PGA Championship, the DP World Tour’s flagship title, to an impressive CV that includes multiple wins on the European Tour and a PGA Tour title at the WGC Bridgestone International.

Shane Lowry lifts the trophy after winning the BMW PGA Championship.

His single-shot victory over good friend Rory McIlroy and Ryder Cup teammate Jon Rahm at Wentworth lifted the 36-year-old back inside the world’s top 15 and capped a superb season. The BMW PGA was also the first qualification event for the 2023 Ryder Cup.

Despite no further wins in 2023 however, Lowry’s steady form saw him finish ninth on the World Points List and 11 th  on the European Points List, which combined with his prolific team experience, earned him selection for a second Ryder Cup as one of Luke Donald’s picks.

Lowry also boasts an impressive record in Major championships recording a T2 finish at the US Open, T3 at the PGA Championship, and T4 in the Masters, in addition to his 2019 Open win.

Shane Lowry won The Open in 2019.

Lowry is a Srixon/Cleveland staff player but, like many players, isn’t tied into a full-bag contract, allowing him to play TaylorMade fairway woods and an Odyssey putter.

Like fellow Major champions Brooks Koepka and Hideki Matsuyama, Lowry does use Srixon irons (ZX5 and ZX7). He has been a long-time user of Cleveland wedges and currently plays the RTX ZipCore model, which we’re huge fans of here at TG.

Let’s take a closer look at the golfer equipment used by six-time DP World Tour winner Shane Lowry.

He said in an interview that his driver broke during the Player's and his old irons were so worn there were barely any grooves left.  He has gone through several sets on the Champions Tour this year trying to find the right replacement for his Apex.

It's actually for a lot of the same reasons you see a guy like Tom Kim playing similar stout stuff. Both have wider swing arcs with less wrist hinge and little to no forward shaft lean at impact. They present higher dynamic loft as a result so things that launch "low" actually launch correctly for them. Neither Kim nor Stricker "need" the rebar shafted 2 and 3-irons respectively because of speed, they need it because of their higher loft delivery.

My understanding is that stiffer shaft is easier to draw... might have something to do with it as I know he likes a draw.

He’s said the insert’s been replaced 2-3 times. You know a Callaway tour truck rep has a cool souvenir unless Steve kept them.

2023 What's In The Bag

Very cool bag. I love seeing what he has in play as he doesn’t change often and plays what works! He had an incredible season last year. Will be interesting if new clubs alter his mojo.

I wonder if this is one of his backup putters?  The last time his putter was shown it had a nice wear mark on the face.

They replace the insert.  See @SetTheBarrHigh 's comment above.  There was a cool story floating around about the first time the insert needed replacement.  All of a sudden his putts were missing by inches and the Callaway rep determined that the insert had a permanent deformation from all the usage.  Replaced the insert and he was back to his old self.

How many balls do you have to strike in the exact same spot, to destroy the insert on a putter?  Wow.

Hmmm...I miss putts by inches too.  I wonder if my insert needs to be replaced.  Can it wear out after 6 months?  If I play once a month and never practice?

There's 28 caps on here playing DG X7 (hard stepped x 2).

And they're only 28 caps because they can't putt.

I would think 11° of bounce on a lob wedge would be way too much for someone who chips and pitches as shallow as he does. Seems crazy to me

Witb: srixon staffer matsuyama's historic major moment.

SRIXON staff player Hideki Matsuyama captured an historic victory at The Masters which saw him, not only capture a first Major title and the coveted Green Jacket, but also become the first male golfer from Asia and Japan to win a Major Championship.

srixon tour players witb

With this historic victory at Augusta National, Matsuyama has now recorded 15 worldwide victories, including 6 career wins on the PGA TOUR. The win also marks the first major victory for the new Srixon ZX Driver, with Matsuyama using the ZX5 model to power his way to an inspirational victory over the weekend with some superlative golf.

With the suspension of The Open in 2020, Srixon now has two of the four current Major Champions in staff players, Matsuyama and Shane Lowry.

Check out the equipment Matsuyama had in his bag at The Masters:

srixon tour players witb

Driver: SRIXON ZX5 9.5* - Matsuyama has been using the new ZX5 driver for the entirety of the 2021 season so far, and it was quite a weapon for him over the four days.

Irons: #4-PW SRIXON Z Forged - The new Masters champion is well-known for his impressive iron-play and his great swing - and his SRIXON Z Forged irons - helped set up plenty of makeable birdie opportunities.

Wedges: Cleveland Golf RTX 4 52*, 56*, 60* - Despite being one of the best golfers on Tour, Hideki also possesses plenty of short-game ingenuity and the RTX wedges helped him show some deft touches around Augusta's infamous glass-like greens.

Ball: Srixon Z-STAR XV

Hat, Bag, Apparel, Glove and Umbrella : SRIXON

Well done to Hideki from all at Hole19 HQ on what will go down as one of the most memorable and impactful Masters wins in many years.

What's In Brooks Koepka's Bag?

May 21, 2023.

Bag for Koepka, Brooks - 2023-May

Source: golfwrx.com

Brooks is the prototype of today’s modern professional golfer: big, strong, and athletic with a powerful swing that is tuned like a machine. Now a winner of 5 Majors, Brooks Koepka often plays his best when he’s pitted against the toughest fields of competition. Brooks earlier in his career avoided signing restrictive sponsorship deals when it came to his clubs, because he likes the ability to play whatever clubs are working for him at any given time. In the past, he had quite a lot of success playing Mizuno irons (JPX900 and JPX919 Tour), having won 4 of his majors playing the brand known for its buttery feel. But he switched to Srixon irons toward the end of 2020 and promptly won the Waste Management Phoenix open in February 2021. So when you look at Brooks’ golf bag, you’re going to find quite an interesting mix of brands which we find quite refreshing in this day and age. Brooks Koepka even still plays a Nike Vapor Fly Pro 3-iron -- a club that was discontinued in 2016 with the rest of Nike's golf club line. (Guess the other PGA Tour pro who still plays a Nike Vapor Fly Pro! Hint, hint: search our database for the answer.)

After coming so close at the Masters last month, Brooks showed up to the PGA Championship at Oak Hill as a man on a mission. In spite of a stacked leaderboard of contenders, Brooks Koepka showed everyone why he's still the most dangerous man in golf, with a steely-eyed performance on Sunday to cruise to victory and his fifth major championship. His bag this week was pretty much identical to what we saw at the Masters, going with Srixon for driver, irons and his golf ball. But as we are accustomed to seeing with Brooks, he mixes in the TaylorMade M2 3-wood, his trusty Nike Vapor Fly Pro 3-iron, Cleveland wedges and his Scotty Cameron putter to round out his bag of favorite tools. After overcoming so much adversity with his health the last 2 years, we are so excited to see what he can do at the remaining majors in 2023.

Here are the clubs and equipment that Brooks Koepka was using as of May 21, 2023. We've catalogued all of Brooks Koepka's club and equipment data into our PGAClubTracker.com database, making it easy to see each player’s club preferences, and how they compare to other Tour players.

Brooks Koepka is currently ranked #36 in the Official World Golf Ranking. With this bag, Brooks Koepka won the PGA Championship (2023).

Grace Kim WITB 2024: LPGA Tour's 23YO Phenom's Bag Explored

A ustralian golfer Grace Kim did not start off the 2024 LPGA Tour with her best foot! Missing the cuts at the LPGA Drive On Championship and the first major of the year, the Chevron Championship has made it all the worse. And well, not to forget that she failed to make it to the list of the Top 25 in the total of 7 events that she took part in, except for the HSBC Women's World Championship in February, where she tied for the 25th position.

Nonetheless, things seem to be shaping up well for her as she takes the lead in the JM Eagle's LA Championship after two rounds, shooting a 12-under 130. She managed to card a total of 11 birdies and 1 eagle in both rounds, with just 1 bogey in the second round. With such an outstanding performance, it is safe to say that Kim has been gearing up for her first win on the Tour among the other top players ,   none of which would have been possible without the wide array of club ranges in her bag!

Grace Kim is a fan of Srixon

Ranked 83 on the Rolex list, Grace Kim uses the Srixon ZX7 MK II driver, which helps her cover the maximum distance off the tee. Priced at around $583, it is equipped with a 9.5-degree loft, which helps her to launch the perfect conditioning with the best stability!

For the fairway woods, Kim takes charge with the Srixon ZX Mk II (3-wood) priced at around $250. The 3-wood is responsible for providing a good balance between the distance and the control of his shot. To hit the longer shots from the fairway or the tee, Grace Kim chooses the Srixon ZX5 MkII Hybrids (3&4). These clubs, priced at around $280, give her the perfect precision when aiming for the greens.

For the irons, Grace Kim uses the Srixon ZX5 Mk II irons. This helps her achieve accuracy with a consistent performance off the club face, balancing out the distance and conditioning. Priced at $1248, the club was also ranked as the most accurate iron in 2023. She also has the ZX7 MK II Iron, priced at around $1200, to add more versatility to her bag!

Kim's companions for the greens

Grace Kim uses the Cleveland Golf RTX 6 ZipCore (50, 54, 58), with a 64-lie degree for each of them. Priced at close to $200, they are full-faced wedges providing the best grooves 'from the heel of the hosel to the tip of the toe', as they claim.

Now, what putter Grace Kim uses is yet to be discovered; however, to complete her golf kit, she keeps the Srixon Z-Star golf ball in her bag. Will her equipment continue to bring her good luck and finally give her a victory at the LPGA Tour 2024 season? Stay tuned to find out!

Four players share the 18-hole lead after the first round of the Diners Club Peru Open at Los Inkas Golf Club. Chris Korte, Rodolfo Cazaubon, Julián Etulain and Evan Brown carded 6-under 66 and hold a one-stroke lead over nine players at 5-under 67.

This is the first time that Korte, Etulain and Brown have held a share of the lead after 18 holes this season. Cazaubon is making his first start on PGA TOUR Americas.

A native of Littleton, Colorado, Korte has made the cut in all three PGA TOUR Americas events to start the season. Korte registered his best finish at the Totalplay Championship at Atlas Country Club, where he finished T26. Korte earned exempt membership through the Latin Swing after finishing 11th in the Fortinet Cup season-long standings in 2023 after finishing in the top 25 four times, including a pair of T2 finishes at the Beachlands Victoria Open presented by Times Colonist and the Elk Ridge Saskatchewan Open.

After a lucrative collegiate career at the University of North Texas, Cazaubon gained membership on PGA TOUR Latinoamerica in 2014. Cazaubon won three times in 2015 on his way to winning the Order of Merit. The Tampico, Mexico native gained membership through the Latin Swing after finishing in the top 60 on PGA TOUR Latinoamerica in 2023.

Brown turned professional after a collegiate career that saw him star at Loyola University Maryland and Ole Miss. In addition to making six birdies, Brown capitalized and made eagle on Nos. 14 and 16 to secure his best round of the season thus far.

A two-time winner of the Diners Club Peru Open on PGA TOUR Latinoamerica (2013, 2014), Etulain has made the cut in seven of his last eight starts dating back to last season on PGA TOUR Latinoamerica. The Buenos Aires native has registered four top-10s in that span.

All players finished the first round with the final group finishing at 6:01 p.m. CT. Second-round play will start at 7:45 a.m. CT off the No. 1 and 10 tees.

Description

Highlights:.

  • Experience medieval Kitay Gorod (China town).
  • Wander picturesque Red Square and Alexander Garden.
  • Explore grand Christ the Savior Cathedral on our Red Square tour.
  • Breathtaking panoramic views from Patriarch bridge.
  • Enjoy a hearty lunch on the large open verandah and marvel at the stunning views of the Kremlin.
  • Learn about Russian culture from the local through relaxed cultural discussions.

Tour Itinerary:

Red square:.

Russia and Moscow are synonymous with Red Square and the Kremlin and that's hardly surprising as you'll find these places absolutely stunning!

  • - Walk-through the Resurrection Gate and don’t forget to flip a coin so you’ll be sure to come back one day!
  • - Visit the world's famous Kazan Cathedral .
  • - See the State Department Store (GUM), once the Upper Trading Stalls, which were built over a century ago and still operating!
  • - Admire the lovely St. Basil's Cathedral! The French diplomat Marquis de Custine commented that it combined "the scales of a golden fish, the enamelled skin of a serpent, the changeful hues of the lizard, the glossy rose and azure of the pigeon's neck" and wondered at "the men who go to worship God in this box of confectionery work".
  • - Walk by Lobnoye Mesto (literally meaning "Execution Place", or "Place of Skulls"), once Ivan the Terrible's stage for religious ceremonies, speeches, and important events.
  • - Entering the Alexander Garden , you’ll take in spectacular views of Russian architecture from ancient to Soviet times, as well as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with an eternal flame. Watch Changing of the Guard Ceremony every hour in summer and every half an hour in winter.

Kitai-gorod:

Stroll along medieval Kitai-gorod with its strong ancient Russia feel, known for its bohemian lifestyle, markets and arts.

  • - Nikolskaya Street. Here you will find the Russia's first publishing house, the second oldest monastery, and Ferryn Pharmacy, known as the number one pharmacy back in Soviet times and famous for its Empire-style architecture.
  • - Ilinka Street. The financial street of the Kitaigorod (China Town) district, where you’ll find the Gostiny Dvor (Merchant’s Yard), which is now a showroom for Ferraris and Maseratis. The street was designed in the 1790s by Catherine the Great.
  • - Varvarka street. The oldest street in Moscow, which dates back to the 14th century, and still has remnants of early Muscovite architecture, such as the Old English Court and the Palace of the Romanov’s.
  • - Kamergersky Lane. Only a small road of about 250 meters, it is home to some of the oldest artifacts of the city, as each building holds a fascinating story. Some of Russia's most famous writers, poets, and composers from as far back as the Golden Age of Russian culture, have lived or worked on this lane.

Historic City Center

Walk the historical old center of Moscow with its cool local vibe, including the main Tverskaya street , and indulge in desserts in the first grocery “Eliseev's store” , housed in an 18th century neoclassical building, famous for its baroque interior and decoration.

From our tour. Impressions of our American tourist:

At 3:30, as energy flagged, lunch was on the agenda at a Ukrainian restaurant.  Just in time!  We asked our guide to order for us.  We all had the same thing....borscht (the Ukrainian version has beans and more tomatoes than the Russian version, which has more beets and includes beef).

The special high bread served is called galushki.  Our main course was golubtsy...a dish of minced meat rolled in braised cabbage leaves.  Both dishes called for optional sour cream as a topping....of course, yes, please....I recommend it.

Full, satisfied, and completely refreshed, it was off to Red Square and St. Basil's and GUM department store.  Red Square is not so named because of the color of the brick walls of the Kremlin.  Rather the word for 'red' and the word for 'beautiful' are similar in pronunciation....and, there you have it.

As we made the turn by the National Museum in front of which is the mounted sculpture of the "Marshall of Victory," Giorgy Zhukov from WWII and caught our first view of St. Basil's, my friend and I simultaneously emitted "Oooohhhhh!"  There it was....the iconic onion domes of St. Basil's!  Hooray....it was open until 7....we had about 30 minutes and were allowed in, AND we could take photos with no flash.

Now, I can give you a taste of what we saw in the other cathedrals in Cathedral Square.  What we learned is that St. Vasily and St. Basil are one in the same....Russian/English.  He was a common man who wandered Moscow unclothed and barefoot.  But, all, even Ivan the Terrible, heeded his opinions derived from his visions.  Ivan had this cathedral built over his tomb.

As we exited and took photos up close of the onion domes, Inna presented us with chocolate (how did she know we were ready for another energy boost, and we each got a big piece of chocolate.  The baby's name pictured on the wrapper of this famous Russian chocolate is Alyonka....the Russian Gerber baby, don't you think?

One could wear out the credit card in GUM's (capitalized because it is actually a government abbreviation), but the 'kitty' and my credit card stayed in my pocket as we strolled through the glass-topped arcade.

We then strolled through some of Moscow's lovely pedestrian streets; paused to listen as a wonderful quartet performed Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" in an underground passage to cross the busy street (hooray!....we DID have our 'classical concert' experience after all; a request Alina tried in vain to fill because none was scheduled those days), saw the Bolshoi, which means 'big' (my friend has yet to recover that their performance schedule did not coincide with our cruise), saw the Central Telegraph Building, dating from the 1930's, and made our way to the Ritz-Carlton to see the night view of Moscow from the rooftop bar, called O2.

There were fleece blankets to wrap yourself in....yes, it got that cold when the sun set.  We each ordered something hot to drink...the ginger, mint, lemon tea served to me in a parfait glass (for 600 rubles...about $9....you pay for the view here!) was delightful and hit the spot perfectly.  It was time to call it a night....

The R&K Guide To Moscow

The World Cup is upon us, but you could argue that it’s already a relic from another era, a time when Putin was looking for peaceable engagement with the West, before he annexed Crimea and unleashed his trolls on the world. But if ordinary Russians are supposed to play the part of pariah, they haven’t been told. It has been a long time since Moscow was this pleasant to visit. The city center is safe, sanitized, ready for your visit. Yes, the calm is a sign of an increasingly efficient autocracy. But we’ve known Moscow through many iterations, and for the casual visitor, this is one of the best yet. (Visit our St. Petersburg guide here.)

Moscow guide&photo! Feel Putin vibes and explore the enigmatic Russian soul through history ...

The sprawling, mind-boggling metropolis of Russian Moscow has long been one of the theatrical stages on which the great dramas of Europe and Asia have been played out in grand style. Burned by Napoleon in 1812, immortalised by Tolstoy, utilised by the Bolsheviks and championed as a bastion of heroic defiance by the post-war communists, it’s almost hard to believe just how defining the historical events that found their home on Moscow’s streets have been. Moscow tour guides will easily be able to mark the major must-see landmarks on the map, from the onion-domed orthodox Saint Basil's Cathedral, to the political powerhouse of Red Square just next door, while others will be quick to recommend a ride on Moscow’s famous subterranean metro system, or a visit to the UNESCO-attested Novodevichy Convent on the city’s southern side. But Moscow is a city also in the throes of a cultural wrangling between the old and the new. Creative energies abound here: Boho bars and pumping super clubs now occupy the iconic mega structures of the old USSR; high-fashion outlets, trendy shopping malls and luxurious residential districts stand as testimony to a city that’s now the undisputed playground of the world’s super-rich, while sprawling modern art museums dominate the cultural offering of the downtown districts north of the Moskva River.
