Suri Cruise, 18, has shunned dad Tom for years after being gifted millions in spoilt childhood… can they ever heal rift?

AT the age of three, she was named “Hollywood’s Hottest Tot” by Forbes and had a designer wardrobe worth £2 million, complete with sparkly kitten heels.

But Suri Cruise, who turns 18 today, couldn’t have a more different life now after she shunned her father Tom , 61, and the limelight, following his divorce from Katie Holmes , 45, when she was just five years old.

Katie gained sole custody of Suri after the 2012 split, along with a generous settlement which saw Tom paying a reported £325,000 a year for his daughter’s care.

As rumours swirled about the cause of the split — with the finger pointed firmly at Tom’s association with the religion Scientology — Suri and Katie went off radar for years, rebuilding their lives in New York , 2,400 miles away from Los Angeles -based Tom.

Under the watchful eye of her protective mum, she hasn’t spoken to or seen her movie-star dad since Christmas 2013.

But with any deal made between Katie and Tom expiring today as Suri turns 18, will she finally break her silence on their estranged relationship?

Whirlwind romance

When Tom and Katie first got engaged in June 2005, after an eight-week whirlwind romance where he flew her off for dinner dates in his private jet, it seemed like a dream romance for both stars.

Tom famously jumped up and down on Oprah Winfrey ’s sofa declaring his love for Katie that year.

And Katie, while previously engaged to actor Chris Klein in the early 2000s, had even told Seventeen magazine: “I think every girl dreams about her wedding. I used to think I was going to marry Tom Cruise.”

Suri was born seven months before their lavish wedding in 2006, which took place at a castle in Rome, costing over $3million, in front of celebrity pals including Jennifer Lopez , Will Smith and Jim Carrey .

The young tot quickly became the most famous child in Hollywood, making her debut on the cover of Vanity Fair just a few months later and being constantly photographed.

While many kids grow up sharing a room with their siblings, Suri had an entire wing of her parents’ Los Angeles mansion to herself, decked out with a state-of-the-art music system and home cinema - and a personal chef on call at all times.

For her second birthday, Suri’s sole wish was to “wear a butterfly dress”.

Her parents took her typical childlike request much further, splashing out £60,000 on a birthday party for just 24 guests, which included a four-tier birthday cake and the casual release of hundreds of live butterflies.

By the age of three, Suri had no official bedtime - and a wardrobe estimated at £2million which included sparkly kitten heels.

In 2009, she was seen on a five-hour shopping spree with her mum and an entourage of bodyguards, buying clothes and toys costing just under £6,000. 

But shortly after Suri turned five, TomKat and Suri’s seemingly perfect life came crashing down, as Katie left Tom - with reports claiming she wanted to take her daughter away from Scientology.

What is Scientology?

THROUGHOUT the world, there are roughly 4,200 religions and among them is Scientology, founded in the 1950s by the late Dr. Lafayette Ronald Hubbard.

By definition,  Scientology  is, “the study and handling of the spirit in relationship to itself, universes and other life.”

Like Christianity, Scientology is another religion but instead of focusing on a God, those who practice focus on the science of the mind with the goal of spiritual enlightenment and freedom.

Those who believe in Scientology are known as Scientologists - they believe in an immortal spirit and in improving their spirit while on Earth.

The religion does not focus on a Heaven or Hell, instead it focuses on the spirit and mind.

When the first Scientology church was open in 1954, it was met with backlash in regard to its legitimacy as those in the medical community have long challenged the ideas behind it.

Despite its reputation, CNN reported that the religion has over 10,000 churches, missions and groups that operate out of 167 countries.

In 2017, at least 4.4 million people were signing up every year.

Actress  Leah Remini  was also known for practicing the religion but in 2013, she announced that she had left the church and later released a book and documentary series about her experiences.

Like Remini, actress Laura Prepon had also practiced the religion until she revealed in August 2021 that  she quit.

Tom was filming in Iceland in 2012 when Katie phoned to say she wanted a divorce and would be taking their daughter away from LA and the Scientology Celebrity Centre, a hotel-style complex, where they lived.

The terms of their divorce settlement are ultra secret but documents show Tom agreed to pay Katie £325,000 a year until Suri turned 18, as well as all of his daughter’s expenses, including college fees.

Katie is also reportedly believed to have signed multiple non-disclosure documents that prevent her from ever talking about her marriage to Tom and her time inside Scientology.

However, unlike her mother, Suri, a now legally-declared adult by the state of New York, is in theory allowed to speak freely about her father and his beliefs.

A source previously told MailOnline: "Suri does not know her father anymore and she has not spent time with him in a decade.

"She does not go to see his movies and he has no part in her life."

Tom is still close to his older children - Isabella, 31, who lives a quiet life in London, and son Connor, 29, a fishing guide in Florida - who are both believed to be involved in Scientology.

He adopted them with second wife, actress Nicole Kidman , 56, who filed for divorce in 2001 after 11 years of marriage and has reportedly not spoken to Tom for more than 20 years.

Like Katie and Suri, she cut all ties with the actor.

However, despite neither Isabella or Connor having been seen in public with Nicole in recent years, it does seem like there is some communication between them, as Isabella has 'liked' her mum's recent Instagram posts.

Suri's new life

Meanwhile, Suri’s life couldn’t be more different now.

A far cry from being “Hollywood’s Hottest Tot,” Suri has rarely been seen in public since she moved away from Hollywood to Manhattan, New York, and had a much more down-to-earth upbringing.

As soon as her parents' divorce was finalised - and Katie had got custody - she gave Suri’s life an overhaul, putting a stop to the luxury clothes, even “returning unsolicited gifts and loans from designers”.

Before they split, Suri was often pictured wearing nail varnish and lipstick, but that was also stopped by Katie once they’d moved away from Tom.

A source told Vogue: “All that inappropriate dress-up and makeup was down to Tom.”

Katie once revealed that they have a very structured schedule at home, complete with a list of chores Suri must do.

After being homeschooled at first, Suri was sent to a Catholic school, instead of attending a Scientology school like her older half-siblings. Her school was high on discipline, including attending mass every Thursday.

In a bid to keep her feet on the ground, Katie has ensured Suri has also spent plenty of time in her own hometown of Ohio, surrounded by her grandparents and aunts.

“They are a close-knit family and have done everything they can to be there for her and to help with her upbringing,” a source told US magazine.

Katie and Suri have even given back, volunteering together in a refugee camp, in Greece, in 2019. 

At the time, Katie said: “I enjoy volunteering with my daughter and hearing her point of view and listening to her suggestions on how we can help.”

Suri - who is celebrating her 18th birthday in New York while her dad films an upcoming Mission Impossible movie in London - is now thinking about her future.

She is said to be thinking about going to fashion college in New York, "leaning towards" Fordham University - with Katie heavily involved in helping her daughter with the application.

Suri Cruise's First 14 Years Were Mysterious And Delightful At The Same Time

It's hard to believe how quickly Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' little girl, Suri Cruise, is growing up! Katie has been known to be super reserved since her split from the 57-year-old Mission Impossible star in 2012. The second photo features Suri sitting in a chair, facing away from the camera. She's wearing a pink tie-dye shirt, and a flower crown adorns the top of her long, brown hair. "Birthday vibes 💕💕," Katie wrote.

Katie and Suri enjoy an incredibly close mother-daughter bond that seems to be weathering the early teenage years well. There's a bit of mystery surrounding the relationship between Tom and Suri, however. Many believe the father and daughter have been estranged for years, but reports indicate Tom might be trying to mend the relationship.

Suri Cruise is 14 years old! Katie Holmes took to Instagram to celebrate her only child's special day on April 18. "💕Happy Birthday Sweetheart!!!!!!! 💕 I am so blessed to be your mom. May this year be incredible! 💕💕💕💕," she wrote.

Later, she shared a rare shot of the birthday girl. Suri is facing away from the camera, but her long brown hair, topped with a crown of fresh flowers, makes her unmistakable. She's wearing a set of bracelets and a pink tie-dye T-shirt.

There's a lot of curiosity about Suri thanks to her super-famous parents. Katie Holmes is a huge star in her own right. She broke out as the wholesome girl next door in Dawson's Creek and has enjoyed an active and interesting acting career ever since.

Today, she's getting ready to direct her second film and deeply enjoying motherhood, as she revealed in an interview with InStyle last month.

"I love her so much," she gushed. "My biggest goal has always been to nurture her into her individuality. To make sure she is 100 percent herself and strong, confident, and able. And to know it."

"She came out very strong — she's always been a strong personality. She'll pick an activity and work her butt off until she's really good at it," she continued. "Then she's like, 'OK, I'm going to try the next thing.' She's very focused and a hard worker."

Certainly, that's a trait she could have inherited from either of her parents. Katie gets most of the credit where Suri is concerned. It's hard to deny she's a budding fashionista, inspiring fan pages of her short but well-documented life.

"I have to say, I did recently see some fan site [about her] posted when she was a baby, and it was very intense. We were followed a lot when she was little. I just wanted her outside, so I would walk her around to find parks at, like, 6 in the morning when nobody would see us," Katie revealed. "But there's one video where I'm holding her — she was 2 at the time — and she starts waving at the cameras. She's pretty special."

Equally well documented was the roller-coaster ride of a relationship between Suri's parents. When Katie first opened up about a childhood crush on Tom Cruise, she was engaged to fellow actor Chris Klein. A year later, Katie and Chris split up. Less than a month later, Katie and Tom stepped out together as a couple for the first time.

It was only a month later that Tom made his infamous appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show , jumping on the couch and proclaiming his love for Katie. By that summer, the couple was engaged. By fall, they were expecting, and sure enough, Suri arrived in the spring.

Tom and Katie married in November 2006. They were one of the most popular couples in Hollywood until things went sour. Katie filed for divorce in June 2012. Eleven days after she filed, representatives for the couple announced they had come to a custody agreement. Katie would take primary custody of Suri, with Tom having visitation rights.

While there were a few sightings of Tom with Suri right after the divorce, the two haven't been seen together since. It's been largely assumed that father and daughter are estranged. Scientology played a major role in the dissolution of Tom and Katie's marriage, and some believe it's why he allegedly hasn't had an active role in Suri's life.

Multiple sources associated with Scientology have asserted that the organization would forbid contact with Suri if she wasn't being raised in the church. They've pointed to Tom's close bond with his two older children with ex-wife Nicole Kidman as an example. While Bella and Connor, both adults, are involved in the church and close with Tom, they're believed to have a lesser bond with Nicole.

Neither Tom nor Katie has publicly commented on reports of estrangement between Suri and Tom. A source tells Hollywood Life that Tom does send Suri gifts each year for Christmas and her birthday.

"Suri gets a gift from Tom on her birthday every year and this year was no exception," the source says. "It’s not something Katie talks about though, beyond saying that Tom does always come through with gifts for things like birthdays and Christmas. She’s very tight-lipped."

It was around last Christmas that rumors of a reunion between Tom and Suri began going public. There were reports indicating that he had reached out around the holidays. Allegedly, he saw a photo of Suri and began to feel upset about all the time they'd missed over the years.

Some reports even claimed that Tom asked Katie for Suri to spend the holidays with him and that she was playing the middle man in organizing a reconciliation. A representative for Katie shut down the rumors. "I told the magazine this was untrue but of course they made up a story anyway," her rep allegedly told Gossip Cop.

It seems that Tom and Suri's relationship will continue to be a mystery to the public. One thing is very clear, however. Whenever Suri is spotted out and about, she looks like a happy, healthy, well-adjusted teen. Regardless of her relationship with her dad, Katie deserves enormous credit for giving Suri as normal a life as possible.

Tom Cruise was so excited about Katie's pregnancy that he bought a sonogram machine

Like a lot of expectant parents, Tom Cruise was ecstatic about the impending arrival of his third child, Suri Cruise. In fact, he was so excited about Suri that he reportedly bought his own ultrasound machine so that he could see her every day. Cruise told Barbara Walters about the purchase, which can cost up to $200,000 (per  BBC News ). He seemed to understand that the purchase was on the lavish end, as he reassured people that the machine would be donated to a hospital after Katie Holmes gave birth.

However, not everyone thought the act was a great idea. In fact, the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine issued a statement condemning the act, noting that the buy bordered on abusing the equipment. President Lennard Greenbaum, MD, said, in part, that "Tom Cruise's recent purchase of an ultrasound machine for personal use at home is both inappropriate and in violation of FDA rules addressing the sale of medical equipment."

Tom Cruise described his daughter Suri's birth as 'spiritual'

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes welcomed Suri Cruise on April 18, 2006 . From all accounts, and especially from Cruise's, Suri's arrival into the world was fairly extraordinary. In fact, only a few days after her birth, Cruise described the experience to "20/20" and still seemed in awe of everything he witnessed (via ABC News ). He said, "It was everything that we wanted it to be. ... It was spiritual. It was powerful. It was indescribable."

Plenty of outlets shared news of Suri's birth, as public interest in the newborn was quite high. CBS News  noted that Suri weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces, and clocked in at 20 inches long. A representative for Cruise and Holmes also shared information about her name, noting that Suri has Hebrew origins and can mean "princess," as well as Persian roots, which could give her name the meaning "red rose." 

Notably, Cruise and Holmes were also able to leave their home to head to the hospital in private, which was quite a feat considering the vast amount of attention they were receiving at the time.

Tom Cruise and Suri Cruise appeared to have a good relationship until 2012

In 2004, a then-engaged Katie Holmes admitted to Seventeen that she had once fantasized about marrying Tom Cruise (per HuffPost ). Fast-forward a few years, and Holmes found herself walking away from the very marriage she once said she wanted.

From all appearances, Tom Cruise and daughter Suri had a solid parent-child relationship up until 2012. That was the year that Katie Holmes filed for divorce in a move that apparently surprised Cruise. While speaking to German TV network ProSieben (via CBS News ), he admitted that he didn't see the divorce coming at all, saying, "I didn't expect it." He added, "Life is a tragicomedy. You need to have a sense of humor."

It seems that after he recovered from the shock of his wife of six years wanting a divorce, he bounced back pretty quickly. InStyle noted that the two were able to work through their divorce pretty quickly, with a settlement being reached after only 11 days. 

He admitted that Katie Holmes left him to 'protect' Suri from Scientology

While Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have been pretty quiet when it comes for the exact hows and whys of their divorce, when pushed, Cruise definitely let something slip: One of big reasons Holmes said she wanted a divorce was reportedly to "protect" their daughter, Suri, from Cruise's religion, Scientology . The admission came out during his deposition during a libel lawsuit he filed against a tabloid. When asked if Holmes felt she had to protect Suri by leaving the relationship, as reported by  HuffPost , he first replied that the question was "offensive" and that "there is no need to protect my daughter from my religion," before saying, "Did she say that? That was one of the assertions, yes."

On top of that, Cruise also admitted that Suri was no longer a practicing member of the religion (per TMZ ). While HuffPost asserts this means Suri has now been deemed a "suppressive person" in the eyes of the Church of Scientology, there have been no public statements made to that effect. Notably, "suppressive" people are often, if not always, "cut off" from those that are still active members of Scientology.

Tom Cruise was not awarded custody of Suri

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes hammered out the details of their divorce settlement in 11 days (per InStyle ), which is pretty remarkable. Surprisingly to many, Cruise was not awarded custody of the pair's daughter, Suri Cruise, at all, and instead walked away from the discussions with visitation rights only. In fact, Tom Cruise was told he can visit with Suri up to 10 days a month, according to Us Weekly .

Cruise also committed to a fairly hefty sum for child support, and TMZ reported that he pays over $33,000 a month for Suri's care. While that's noting to sniff at, it's a far cry from the sum a judge could have probably ordered him to pay if the divorce had gone to court, especially as his overall net worth is believed to be approximately $600 million (per Celebrity Net Worth ). Cruise is also in charge of covering any necessary expenses Suri might rack up, including medical and dental insurance, schooling, and college, and he also funds extracurricular activities (per TMZ).

It sounds like Tom Cruise doesn't always see Suri in person

Even though the custody agreement struck between Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes makes it clear that he can see their daughter, Suri Cruise, for 10 days a month, it seems like he hasn't been able to make that happen. On top of that, a source apparently close to the situation told Us Weekly that this seems to be a deliberate choice that Cruise is making. The source told the publication, "Every person is allowed to see their child if they wanted to. He chooses not to because she is not a Scientologist."

Outspoken critic of Scientology Tony Ortega spoke to Us Weekly about what might be going on behind closed doors, explaining that it's possible Holmes signed a document agreeing not to speak badly of the religion in order to get full custody. Ortega added that Holmes only had one objective: to take care of Suri. He said, "She wanted to get away and she wanted to get Suri."

In 2013, Tom Cruise admitted he hadn't seen Suri Cruise for 100 days

Things only got messier for Tom Cruise in the year after his divorce was finalized. In 2013, he admitted that he hadn't seen his youngest child for at least 100 days, explaining that his prolonged absence was due to his filming schedule. 

According to  People , Cruise said in a deposition hearing for her lawsuit again Bauer Publishing that it was "impossible" for him to see Suri during that time, and on top of that, he claimed that the then 7-year-old seemed just fine without him. After sharing that he's "very good" at talking to his daughter on the phone, Cruise added, "I also find that, you know, Suri is a very happy child, and confident, and has a good sense of herself."

He further explained that, though he missed Suri's first day of school, that was because his daughter didn't ask him to be there herself.

How long has it been since he's seen his daughter in person?

While Tom Cruise might have been able to explain why he didn't see Suri Cruise for 100 days, he then reportedly missed out on seeing his daughter in person for over 1,000 days. In 2016, In Touch Weekly reported that Cruise had not seen or exchanged words with Suri in over two and a half years. A source allegedly close to the situation told the publication that the pair had been using video chat and text messaging to stay in touch but that it had slowed down, before adding that Suri no longer really bought her father's explanations for why he was missing. The source said, "He uses his film commitments as an excuse, but the truth is that doesn't hold much weight with Suri anymore."

As in the past, some believe that Cruise's religion is the reason why he keeps missing out on his daughter's life. The same source told In Touch as much, noting, "He's disconnected from Katie, and then de facto from Suri, because of her connection to Katie. He hasn't seen her since she was 7."

A friend reportedly said Tom Cruise never meant to 'be estranged' from Suri

Despite Tom Cruise's reportedly prolonged period of estrangement from Suri, an alleged friend of his has stated that the actor never meant to be so far removed from his daughter. While speaking to Hollywood Life in 2019, the friend explained that, even though Cruise isn't with Suri on important days like her birthday, he's always planning for them. The friend said, "Tom does plan to send Suri a gift and call her on her birthday."

The friend added that Cruise has a lot of love for Suri, and that being this distant from his daughter wasn't something he anticipated when he and Katie Holmes welcomed Suri to the world. The friend explained, "Tom never intended to be estranged from his daughter when he decided to have a family with Katie and looks forward to repairing the relationship one day."

While it's unclear when Cruise will ever reconnect with his daughter, assuming the reports about their estrangement are true, one thing that is certainly true is that the path getting to this point has been long, winding, and, truth be told, quite confusing. Perhaps the two will grow closer when Suri is an adult.

Tom Cruise doesn't live in the same state as Suri

One factor that likely complicates the relationship between Tom Cruise and daughter Suri is that they don't live in the same state — or even the same country. While Suri lives in New York City with her mom, Katie Holmes, Cruise has reportedly been living in London, England, since April 2021 (per In Touch Weekly ).

A source told the publication that the city is a natural fit for Cruise, explaining that he especially enjoys the rainy weather and being able to walk around his new home. He is also reportedly fond of the city because of the anonymity it lends him. The source said, "If he wears a hat and mask, he can slip into bookstores or antique shops and no one knows it's him. He's got family living there, too, which gives him a sense of belonging."

As for Suri, she and her mom moved to New York following the divorce. Holmes admitted to InStyle in 2020 that the city isn't quite as private as she'd like, but she said that the city is just right for her and Suri. She shared, "What I love about New York is that for me and my child, this is our vibe."

Suri then started dressing a bit like her mother. Like a true New Yorker, Suri added sweaters, raincoats and trench coats in order to cope with the weather of the Big Apple.

When it comes to famous celebrity kids, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’s daughter Suri has made her mark in more ways than one. Currently living in NYC with mom Holmes, Suri has been a subject of fascination since the moment she was born — but then again, that’s what happens when you’re the kid of Tom Cruise. When Cruise and Holmes had a dramatic split in 2012, Suri’s life was changed forever as she and Holmes moved across the country and severed ties with Cruise. In a new interview with Variety , the actress opened up about her run in the off-Broadway play The Wanderers and her new film, Rare Objects . As she talked about trying to balance work with her everyday life, Holmes shared a personal anecdote about Suri, her daughter with ex-husband Tom Cruise , from during the COVID-19 pandemic. It turns out that Suri began watching the late '90s TV show that made her mom famous.

"[Suri] has seen Dawson’s Creek , and I think it’s probably weird since she’s a teenager," Holmes told Variety. "I’m not like, 'You need to watch mommy’s work.'"

The actress continued: "But during the pandemic, we had a good laugh about it. It’s wild to have a daughter who’s almost the same age as I was when I began all this."

Since Holmes often refrains from speaking about her daughter, people couldn't help but love this surprise detail about their relationship. Given how her character Joey Potter overcame a number of struggles and romances on Dawson's Creek , folks had a lot of thoughts about Suri's opinions on the hit drama.

"So awkward for Katie 😂😂 the fashion, the plots, I bet they had a good laugh!" one person wrote on Instagram . "I was obsessed with this show!!" another added. "That's absolutely precious ... Cruise, Holmes Welcome Baby Suri

The silent birth heard around the world has finally happened.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, the public lovebirds dubbed TomKat by the media, had a baby girl Tuesday, said Cruise spokesman Arnold Robinson.

Suri Cruise came into the world at 7 pounds, 7 ounces and 20 inches long. Her name has its origins in Hebrew, meaning "princess," or in Persian, meaning "red rose," Robinson said in a statement.

"Both mother and daughter are doing well," the publicist said.

People magazine's editor-at-large Jess Cagle tells CBS News' The Early Show that Suri was born in a hospital. Despite all of the media surrounding Cruise's home in Beverly Hills, the couple were able to leave the house, get to the hospital, and come back home without anyone knowing, Cagle says.

Details about the birth weren't disclosed, but it had been planned to take place as a silent procedure under the tenants of the Church of Scientology, to which both Cruise and Holmes belong.

Scientologists believe words spoken during times of pain are recorded by the "reactive mind" and can cause potential problems for both mother and child.

Suri's birth generated a huge noise among the world of Cruise-Holmes watchers.

"Yay, yay, yay," said actress and fellow Scientologist Kirstie Alley. "Bring her over so I can meet her."

"Tonight Show" host Jay Leno announced the birth to his studio audience.

"I just got a phone call that Tom Cruise had a baby girl about two minutes ago. No joke," he said.

Suri is the 27-year-old actress' first child. Cruise, 43, has an adopted daughter and son with his ex-wife Nicole Kidman.

In an ironic twist of fate, Suri was born on the same day actress Brooke Shields gave birth to her daughter Grier Hammond Henchy . Shields and Cruise had a public spat last year after he criticized the actress for taking antidepressants following the birth of her first child.

Cruise said depression can be treated with exercise and vitamins rather than drugs. Shields dismissed the actor's remarks as a "ridiculous rant," adding it appeared obvious he had never suffered from postpartum depression.

There were no signs of depression at the Beverly Hills home of Cruise and Holmes on Tuesday, where about a dozen reporters and photographers stood outside the gates and a steady stream of tourists and curious passers-by stopped to take a look. Some visitors left baby gifts outside the gate, which was shrouded in black to keep anyone from peering inside.

A police motorcycle officer stopped in the late afternoon to watch the goings-on. The patrolman, who identified himself as Officer Chase, said he was making a routine check because there had been heightened activity around the area.

He asked if Holmes had given birth yet and, told she had, he drove off.

Meanwhile, a publicity blitz for the new Cruise movie "Mission: Impossible III," which was to begin Wednesday, has been put on hold. The actor has canceled all press appearances, according to Paramount Studios.

It was just about a year ago that Cruise's romance with Holmes became a worldwide sensation.

The actor hopped up and down on a couch during an interview with Oprah Winfrey as he professed his love.

"I can't be cool. I can't be laid-back," Cruise declared at the time. "Something happened and I want to celebrate it."

The antics were widely mocked but Cruise was unfazed and continued to display his affection for the star of TV's "Dawson's Creek."

The couple were first photographed together in Rome in April 2005. Two months later, Cruise announced he had proposed to Holmes atop the Eiffel Tower.

"Today is a magnificent day for me, I'm engaged to a magnificent woman," he said.

No wedding date has been disclosed.

Holmes was previously been engaged to actor Chris Klein. Cruise, previously married to Mimi Rogers and Kidman, also had a high-profile romance with Penelope Cruz.

Suri Cruise could be Katie’s ex Chris Klein’s baby, according to Enquirer

A lot of people speculated that Suri wasn’t born in April at all, and cited photos of Katie’s Holmes growing and shrinking bump to show that there was some funny business going on. One photo in particular that made us scratch our heads had Katie looking like she was smuggling a beach ball under her top . There are theories that Suri isn’t Tom Cruise’s biological baby and that Katie was instead pregnant with her ex Chris Klein’s child when she met Tom just a month after her breakup with Chris. Cruise was rumored to be sterile or at least unable to successfully reproduce, given the fact that he had no biological children with ex wife Nicole Kidman and she suffered some miscarriages during their marriage. The curious way that Suri was kept from the public and the lack of convincing evidence of her birthdate were used as evidence that she could be older than Holmes and Cruise claimed, which made her paternity up to question .

Now there’s some hearsay to add to the rumor that Suri is Chris Klein’s and not Tom’s baby. The National Enquirer has a source this week that claims to have had a conversation with Chris that suggested that Katie was pregnant when they broke up back in March of 2005. Their source also passed a lie detector test, but that’s possible with the help of some medication so you can’t put much faith in that. The Enquirer never says outright that Suri must be Chris’ baby, but they sure hint strongly at it:

“Mad Money” star Katie, 29, and Chris, 27, started dating in January 2000. They got engaged at Christmas 2003, but Chris has said they split in March 2005 because they fell out of love. A month after the breakup, Katie flew to Los Angeles from New York to meet Tom. Two months after that – on June 17, 2005 – Tom announced Katie had accepted his wedding proposal. But even before their engagement was made public, Chris told the source that he had impregnated Katie, says the pal. “Shortly after his relationship with Katie ended, Chris and I had a heart-to-heart,” the source – who passed a polygraph test – told The Enquirer. “We were having dinner at Cafeteria, a restaurant in NY’s Chelsea district, when Chris blurted out ‘Dude, you know I got Katie preggers.’ “There was a long silence. I realized Chris had said more than he intended. My next thought was: What happened to the baby?” Chris never said – and the source says he didn’t ask. “From the look in Chris’ eyes, I realized this was highly personal. I didn’t want to probe any further. We quickly went on to another topic,” the source said. “Chris never brought it up again, but I know he must be reminded of Katie’s pregnancy every time he sees her daughter Suri.”

I really don’t believe that Katie Holmes ran the full NY Marathon or even walked it, but it feels kind of wrong to speculate whether Suri is Tom’s biological child or not. A lot of signs point to “no,” but this is a little girl who is being raised by a batshit crazy, but still completely attentive loving father who is doing his best to ensure that she’s indoctrinated in the manner he’s accustomed to. All we have at this point is some circumstantial evidence and the word of a person who may not even be real. Even if some friend of Klein’s heard him say this, it doesn’t mean that Suri is Kleins. Katie could have had a miscarriage or maybe she thought she was pregnant and really wasn’t. Maybe it doesn’t matter if Tom is Suri’s biological dad or not.

It’s been almost 15 years since Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise’s daughter, Suri Cruise, was born, and she has changed a lot throughout the years. She’s almost as tall as her famous mother.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ romance was a hot topic in the 2000s, especially after their daughter, Suri, was born. Given her parent’s popularity, we’ve basically seen her grow right before our eyes.

SURI CRUISE AS A CHILD

According to the “Mission: Impossible” star, Suri’s birth was “beautiful,” “spiritual,” “powerful,” “indescribable,” and everything he and Katie wanted it to be.

Suri’s birth – or her name , specifically – surprised some people as the term Suri denotes expulsion, something like, “get out of here,” according to linguistics professor Gideon Goldenberg.

Following the controversy, a spokesperson for Tom and Katie pointed out that the child’s name indeed came from ancient Hebrew, but as a variant of Sarah, the biblical matriarch.

It is important to point out that the word “Suri” has different meanings depending on the language. In Persian, for example, it means “rose.” In Sanskrit, it means “sun.”

Like many other celebrities, Tom and Katie tried to shield their daughter from the spotlight from a very young age, especially because they were the subject of intense media interest and speculation for years.

After Katie and Tom’s 2011 divorce , things calmed down. As a result, the actors make headlines every time they talk about Suri or are photographed with her.

About a year after Katie gave birth, she said she “adored” her daughter and then-husband. The “First Daughter” star admitted that Tom had made her feel like the most beautiful woman in the world since the day they met.

Apart from that, Katie said that while her work as an actress was important, her family was also a central part of her life, so she was determined only to accept acting gigs worth her time away from her family.

Time went by, and Suri’s relationship with her mother grew stronger. So much so that, in fact, the girl became Katie’s fashion muse when she was only three years old.

The actress, who launched a fashion line with stylist Jeanne Yang in 2009, confessed that she always dreamed of getting into the fashion industry and that she was “truly inspired” by Suri, who "just loves dressing up.”

SURI CRUISE AS A TEENAGER

When Katie Holmes’ daughter was five years old, the “Batman Returns” star predicted that she would be an actress , just like her parents. Judging by Suri’s most recent photos, she was probably right.

The almost-15-year-old teen has long, dark hair like her mom, is often photographed wearing very stylish clothes, and according to some sources, she is even taller than her dad .

Tom Cruise and Suri’s relationship has also attracted some attention over the years. In 2013, the actor admitted that he did not see Suri in person for over 100 days and blamed his busy schedule.

One of the significant milestones Tom missed was Suri’s first day of school. The actor said that if his daughter had asked him to be present, he would have “worked it out in any way” he could.

Tom and Katie’s fans got to know a bit more about Suri Cruise in 2020 after the actress pointed out that her daughter came out “very strong” and would choose an activity, work hard to become “really good at it,” and then select another thing. Katie added :

“My biggest goal has always been to nurture her into her individuality. To make sure she is 100 percent herself and strong, confident, and able. And to know it.”

Katie also said that dealing with paparazzi in the first few years of her daughter’s life was intense as they were followed a lot. Still, she wanted her daughter to be outside, so she would walk with her at six in the morning when no one could see them.

At the moment, Suri Cruise looks just like her famous mother, and fans keep wondering if she will become an actress, too. It seems like we still need to wait to know that.

Katie Holmes and Chris Klein shot to fame around the same time when they were about the same age. Holmes became a household name as Joey Potter in the teen drama "Dawson's Creek," which premiered on The WB in January 1998 when she was 19. Similarly, Klein achieved fame at age 20 in 1999, when all the cool teenagers were doubling over in laughter together watching the VHS of the first "American Pie." Holmes and Klein inevitably crossed paths around then, igniting a romantic relationship between the two, according to Daily Mail . But they were young and busy with their budding careers, so it didn't last. 

By 2005, Holmes had been linked to Tom Cruise , whom she married in a castle in Italy in November 2016, The Blade reported. By then, Holmes and Cruise already had Suri , who was born that April, according to the Los Angeles Times . Their romance was the talk of the town. And their messy divorce attracted just as much, if not more, attention — particularly because Holmes seemed concerned about the Church of Scientology's involvement in her and Suri's lives, the New York Post reported.

Klein, for his part, was leading a much quieter life around that time. It wasn't until 2011 that he met Laina Rose Thyfault, who became his wife in 2015, People reported. The couple, who has a son and daughter together, is still going strong. Despite their lives going wildly separate paths, Holmes and Klein remember their shared time fondly.

Katie Holmes and Chris Klein were just around 21 when they started dating in 2000, according to  Daily Mail . Despite their youth, the two were serious about each other. So much so that they decided they wanted to become husband and wife. After about three years together, Klein proposed to Holmes, news they made public in December 2003, The Blade reported. While Holmes' relationship with Tom Cruise was lived intensely in the spotlight, she previously showed a preference for keeping her private life to herself.

In fact, Holmes refused to share any details about her living arrangements or engagement to Klein with the media. Were they already living under the same roof? "That's our business. But thank you for wondering," she replied to People in 2003. Throughout their relationship, Holmes was still working on "Dawson's Creek," which was shot in Wilmington, North Carolina, according to People . That meant she and Klein, who was based in California, spent considerable time apart. "We certainly don't see each other as much as we'd like, but we try to use the time that we have to the best of our advantage," she told the magazine in 2002.

Holmes moved back to Los Angeles in 2003 after the last season of "Dawson's Creek" ended, according to People. But by 2005, they had broken off their engagement and gone their separate ways. While their relationship didn't work out, Holmes and Klein remained on good terms.

Katie Holmes and Chris Klein may have decided getting married was not the right move, but that doesn't mean there was animosity between them. After breaking up, Klein had nothing but praise for his ex-fiancee. "Katie and I were on a journey together ... we were like the prom king and queen," he told People in 2012. The couple also had plenty in common, which strengthened their respect for each other. "We had a similar upbringing and we were going through the same experience [in Hollywood]." In a lot of ways, they grew up together. "We were kids, man," he told Daily Beast in 2012. "We met before we could legally drink."

But Klein also believed the same phenomenon that brought them close drove them apart. "As the teenage craze came to an end, we found that our relationship was changing as well," he told People. And the memories he has from their relationship are mainly positive. "We were all working, successful, and having fun. It was late '90s, young Hollywood, and we were having a good time ... not unlike all those vampires today," he said in his sit-down with Daily Beast.

Holmes and Klein are said to have remained friends. He even reportedly supported her during her divorce from Tom Cruise. "They've stayed on good terms since they broke up and he's one of Katie's few really solid friends," a source told Heat magazine (via Irish Independent ).

Has anyone ever been more in love than couch-jumping Tom Cruise and  Katie Holmes ? We'll wait. Beginning in 2005, the actress and  fashion icon  (not just anyone can  pull off socks over sweatpants , alright?) engaged in a whirlwind romance with PDA-filled red carpet appearances that solidified their public image as TomKat. Within a year of meeting, they were engaged and welcomed a child together. A few months later, they tied the knot (Holmes's first marriage and Cruise's third). While many believed that the union wouldn't last — and it ultimately didn't — the pair still went on to share nearly six years together as husband and wife.

Since their 2012 divorce, we're remembering the Hollywood couple that once gave every teenager a glimmer of hope that it was possible — although highly unlikely — that maybe, just maybe, the dream of marrying their celebrity crush could become a reality.

April 2005: Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes first meet and are spotted together

As the story goes, after Cruise divorced  Nicole Kidman  and subsequently  split from then-girlfriend Penelope Cruz , the  Mission: Impossible  actor's beloved Church of Scientology set out to find him a worthy (and malleable) wife. After reportedly courting (and ultimately scaring off) famous women like  Sofía Vergara  and  Scarlett Johansson , the task proved more difficult than expected.

Eventually, church officials' prayers were answered through a  Seventeen  article,  per HuffPost . In October 2004, Holmes (then  engaged to Chris Klein ) told the teen magazine, "I used to think that I was going to marry Tom Cruise." 

Six months later, Klein and Holmes announced their breakup, and on April 27, 2005, Cruise and Holmes were first spotted together in Rome. TomKat made their red carpet debut as a couple two days later on April 29 at the David di Donatello Awards. Coincidence? We may never truly know.

"When I met Tom, I was completely in love, and, yes, I admired him growing up — he's Tom Cruise!" she reportedly told  T: The New York Times Style Magazine  ( via  People ).

May 23, 2005: Tom Cruise declares his love for Katie Holmes on The Oprah Winfrey Show

Cruise jolted daytime television when he appeared on  The Oprah Winfrey Show  and ecstatically jumped on her couch while professing love for his new girlfriend (who he subsequently brought out from backstage). The appearance went viral, with many questioning Cruise's sanity, as well as the relationship's authenticity.

June 16, 2005: Tom Cruise announces engagement to Katie Holmes

Shortly after going public with their relationship, Cruise announced at a press conference for  War of the Worlds  that he and Holmes were engaged. According to  The Hollywood Reporter , Cruise, then 43, proposed to Holmes, then 26, with a five-carat yellow diamond ring at a restaurant atop the Eiffel Tower.

"Today is a magnificent day for me; I'm engaged to a magnificent woman," he said, per  People . 

April 18, 2006: Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes welcome their first child together

Holmes gave birth to a baby girl, Suri, in Santa Monica, California, in April 2006. Their newborn daughter made her public debut on the October 2006 cover of  Vanity Fair. 

The  Dawson's Creek  alum  told the magazine , " The moment the doctor handed me Suri, I was just ready. The feeling is indescribable. All I can say is the moment I looked in her eyes, I felt like ... Mom." 

Since then, the celeb offspring and fashionista has inspired one of our favorite pop culture artifacts of all time:  Suri's Burn Book . 

November 18, 2006: Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes get married

In November 2006, the  Batman Begins  actress's schoolgirl fantasy of marrying Cruise came true. Their wedding was marked by an extravagant ceremony and reception at an Italian castle that cost more than $3 million, according to E! Online .

The star-studded guest list included couples  Jennifer Lopez  and Marc Anthony, John Travolta and the late Kelly Preston, and  David Beckham  and  Victoria Beckham , among others. As for the bridal party, Holmes had her sister Nancy Blaylock as maid of honor, while Cruise chose Scientology leader David Miscavige as his best man.

June 2012: Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes divorce

Interestingly, after Cruise gave a  Playboy  interview in which he praised Holmes, she filed for divorce. Although the  Top Gun  star admitted that he "didn't expect" the divorce —  per CBS News  — the legal proceedings ran smoothly, and a settlement was reached in just 11 days.

Cruise and Holmes have rarely spoken on the record in regard to their split, but it's rumored that Holmes's motivation was to free her daughter from the unique constraints of Scientology. During his deposition against Bauer Media Cruise (whose tabloids claimed he'd abandoned Suri), Cruise was asked if Holmes left him "in part to protect Suri from Scientology." 

Insulted, he said, "There is no need to protect my daughter from my religion." 

However,  according to ABC News , when prodded again, specifically as to whether Holmes had mentioned that she was leaving in an effort to protect Suri from Scientology, Cruise responded, "Did she say that? That was one of the assertions, yes."

Holmes was granted primary custody of Suri in their divorce. Though Cruise was afforded ample visitation, it was widely reported that he rarely saw his daughter. In 2016,  InTouch Weekly  asserted  that the actor hadn't seen or spoken to his youngest child in over 1,000 days (or two-and-a-half years).

although there’s no doubt that katie holmes’ beautiful 10-month-old daughter, suri, was fathered by her hubby, tom cruise, it is a bit eerie how much suri kinda, sorta looks like katie’s ex-fiance, chris klein – from the eyes, to the cheeks, to the pouty lips.

Katie Holmes gives birth to girl, Suri

Word of the world’s most famous silent birth has finally been heard.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, the public lovebirds dubbed TomKat by the media, “joyously welcomed the arrival” of a baby girl Tuesday, said Cruise spokesman Arnold Robinson.

The girl, named Suri, came into the world at 7 pounds, 7 ounces and 20 inches long. Her name has its origins in Hebrew, meaning “princess,” or in Persian, meaning “red rose,” Robinson said in a statement.

“Both mother and daughter are doing well,” the publicist said.

Details about the birth weren’t disclosed, but it had been planned to take place as a silent procedure under the tenets of the Church of Scientology, to which both Cruise and Holmes belong.

Scientologists believe words spoken during times of pain are recorded by the “reactive mind” and can cause potential problems for both mother and child.

Suri’s birth, which happened in Los Angeles although the exact location was not disclosed, generated a huge noise among the world of Cruise-Holmes watchers.

“Yay, yay, yay,” said actress and fellow Scientologist Kirstie Alley. “Bring her over so I can meet her.”

“Tonight Show” host Jay Leno announced the birth to his studio audience.

“I just got a phone call that Tom Cruise had a baby girl about two minutes ago. No joke,” he said.

Suri is the 27-year-old actress’ first child. Cruise, 43, has an adopted daughter and son — Isabella, 13, and Connor, 11 — with ex-wife Nicole Kidman.

Brooke Shields also gives birth In a strange twist of fate, Suri was born on the same day Brooke Shields gave birth to her daughter, Grier Hammond Henchy. Shields and Cruise had a public spat last year after he criticized the actress for taking antidepressants following the birth of her first child.

At the Beverly Hills home of Cruise and Holmes on Tuesday, about a dozen reporters and photographers stood outside the gates and a steady stream of tourists and curious passers-by stopped to take a look. Some visitors left baby gifts outside the gate, which was shrouded in black to keep anyone from peering inside.

A police motorcycle officer stopped in the late afternoon to watch the goings-on. The patrolman, who identified himself as Officer Chase, said he was making a routine check because there had been heightened activity around the area.

He asked if Holmes had given birth yet and, told she had, he drove off.

Meanwhile, a publicity blitz for the new Cruise movie “Mission: Impossible III,” which was to begin Wednesday, has been put on hold. The actor has canceled all press appearances, according to Paramount Studios.

It was just about a year ago that Cruise’s romance with Holmes became a worldwide sensation.

The actor hopped up and down on a couch during an interview with Oprah Winfrey as he professed his love.

“I can’t be cool. I can’t be laid-back,” Cruise declared at the time. “Something happened and I want to celebrate it.”

The antics were widely mocked but Cruise was unfazed and continued to display his affection for the star of TV’s “Dawson’s Creek.”

“Today is a magnificent day for me, I’m engaged to a magnificent woman,” he said.

No wedding date has been disclosed.

Holmes was previously engaged to actor Chris Klein. Cruise, previously married to Mimi Rogers and Kidman, also had a high-profile romance with Penelope Cruz.

The birth further whetted the appetite for Hollywood’s next high-profile pregnancy: Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, who have been staying in the southwest African country of Namibia, are expecting the birth of their first child.

The "dawson's creek" alum's daughter is nearly the same age she was when she played joey potter.

Katie Holmes' daughter with ex-husband Tom Cruise, Suri , is all grown up, already sixteen years old, and unbelievably, she is nearly the same age her mom was when she took on her breakout role of Joey Potter on "Dawson's Creek."

The hit show ran for six seasons, from 1998 until 2003, and on the year of its 20th anniversary, the actress revealed that she has in fact showed her early work to her teenage daughter. 

Speaking with Variety about her latest projects, which includes an Off Broadway production titled The Wanderers and directing Rare Objects , she gave insight into Suri's reaction to her debut small screen role.

"[Suri] has seen 'Dawson's Creek,'" she said, though she then confessed: "And I think it's probably weird since she's a teenager."

"I'm not like, 'You need to watch mommy's work,' she maintained, adding: "But during the pandemic, we had a good laugh about it."

She then noted: "It's wild to have a daughter who's almost the same age as I was when I began all this."

Suri is Katie's first and only daughter with Tom. The couple first started dating in 2005 – Katie was 27 and Tom 43 – the same year the actress called off an engagement from "Sweet Magnolias" actor Chris Klein. Seven weeks after they first met, the couple were engaged.

They welcomed Suri on the first anniversary of their first date , April 18, 2006, and tied the knot in November of the same year with a ceremony at Odescalchi Castle in Bracciano, Italy.

Their divorce – which is widely believed to have come as a shock to Tom – was announced six years later, in 2012. At the time of their split, the "Dawson's Creek" alum's lawyer, Johnathan Wolfe, told People : "Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest." Katie was given sole custody of Suri, and the two live in New York City.

Though it has been widely reported that Tom has little to no part in his daughter's life, according to his and Katie's divorce documents, he agreed to pay his ex-wife $400,000 a year in child support until Suri turns 18.
