How many songs does Taylor Swift play on the Eras Tour setlist?

The average Taylor Swift concert is around 2 hours long but The Eras Tour is a whole different beast... The concert is a whopping 3 hours and 15 minutes long, and Taylor performs a huge 45 tracks within that timeframe.

Not all the tracks are performed in full, though – some are shortened versions. There's also a couple of additional little interludes that pop up throughout the show.

For context, on the Rep tour, Taylor performed 19 tracks in total, including several mashups that featured some of her older songs. For The 1989 World Tour, she performed 18 songs, while 17 songs were performed on The Red Tour and the Speak Now World Tour.

Taylor has 'reset' the surprise song list, which means anyone attending a show in 2024 can anticipate hearing a song she's already performed. She previously stated that she will only play each surprise song once during the tour, unless she messes one up.

There's also no rules for Taylor repeating songs from Midnights as surprise songs, which means fans may get to hear the likes of 'You're On Your Own Kid' and 'Snow on the Beach' again at some point in the future.

We'll update this article with every Surprise Acoustic Song – and every surprise song that she will play again – after every show.

Will Taylor Swift change the Eras Tour setlist to include The Tortured Poets Department?

Will Taylor Swift change the Eras Tour setlist for the international shows?

As of March 9th 2024, the Eras Tour setlist has remained the same as the U.S. leg. However, with the release of The Tortured Poets Department in April, things could change. More on that further down the page.

Fans attending the European shows might end up hearing Taylor perform ' Castles Crumbling ' with Hayley Williams as an additional song during the Speak Now section, as Paramore will be supporting her throughout those tour dates. (Both Phoebe Bridgers and HAIM joined Taylor on stage to perform 'Nothing New' and 'No Body, No Crime' respectively on the nights they were support acts.)

After completing her shows in South America, Australia, Japan and Singapore, Taylor is now set to pick the tour back up in Europe in May 2024 and run through to mid-August, before returning to North America in November 2024.

Will Taylor Swift change the Eras Tour setlist to include The Tortured Poets Department ?

Taylor's brand new album was released on April 19th, just before she embarks on the European leg of the Eras Tour. The full anthology version of the album includes a whopping 31 new songs.

We won't know for sure whether or not the official setlist will change to accommodate those songs until she kicks off the Eras Tour in Paris on May 9th.

It's unclear if she will add a new TTPD section to the tour, but it's looking very likely that Taylor will perform some of those new songs as surprise songs. We'll update this article as soon as we know more!

What are Taylor's most performed songs on tour?

Before she embarked on The Eras Tour, Taylor’s top 3 most performed songs are ‘Love Story’ (491 times), ‘Our Song’ (404 times) and ‘You Belong With Me’ (381 times).

Of course, almost all of Taylor’s most performed songs are from her first two albums. As the list goes on, the Speak Now bops, Red bangers and 1989 hits start to weave their way in.

If you’re wondering what Taylor’s most played songs from her first five albums are, here’s a break down:

  • Taylor Swift : ‘Our Song’, ‘Tim McGraw’ and ‘Picture To Burn’
  • Fearless: ‘Love Story’, ‘You Belong With Me’ and ‘Fifteen’
  • Speak Now : ‘Sparks Fly’, ‘Mean’ and ‘Mine’
  • Red : ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’, ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ and ‘Red’
  • 1989 : ‘Shake It Off’, ‘Blank Space’ and ‘Out of the Woods’

Taylor has only had the chance to perform songs from Reputation on the Reputation Stadium Tour so far, but ‘Ready For It?’, ‘Delicate’ and ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ take the top spots when it comes to live performances of the Rep tracks.

Due to the cancellation of Lover Fest, Taylor hasn’t been able to perform Lover on a tour setting. Folklore, Evermore and Midnights will also be making their tour debut on the Eras Tour.

Pre-tour activity [ ]

Prior to the launch of the tour, Swift played three shows in the US, including a sold-out performance in front of nearly 71,000 fans at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in March 2009. Swift also played several dates in the UK and Australia, including two shows at the Shepherd's Bush Empire in London. [1]

Also, in the midst of her own tour, Swift began opening shows in select cities for Keith Urban on his Escape Together World Tour 2009.

About the tour [ ]

The tour was announced on January 29, 2009, via her official website. [2] The initial press release announced that Swift would visit 54 cities in 39 states and provinces in the United States and Canada. Joining her on the tour would be a new country music group, Gloriana, as well as former American Idol contestant, Kellie Pickler .

The tour kicked off in Evansville, Indiana, on April 23, 2009, at Roberts Stadium. In honor of the kickoff of the sold-out tour, Swift was presented the key to the city of Evansville and the City Council President declared Wednesday, April 23, 2009, Taylor Swift Day. [3]

The tour features a theatrical presentation of graphics, sets and visual elements all designed by Swift herself. The show runs more than 90 minutes and showcases Swift playing five different guitars as well as the piano. The show features multiple costume changes and a fairy-tale castle illuminated by more than a million lumens of light.

In late June, a new tour date was announced for November 23 at the Wembley Arena in London. However it has become apparent that neither Kellie Pickler nor Gloriana will be joining her on the UK part of the tour. Taylor Swift announced another date in the UK at the Manchester Evening News Arena on November 24. [4] This was the final and second tour date in the UK. The shows at Wembley and Manchester will be the only two concerts for the Fearless Tour in Europe. It was announced later that singer Justin Bieber would join Swift on the two UK dates [5] While performing at Wembley Arena, Bieber broke his foot while he performed the opening lines of "One Time", but still finished the song. Despite his injury, Bieber confirmed that he would still perform in Manchester with Swift the following day, although the Wembley concert was cut short as he could not perform the encore. Bieber then went on to perform at the Manchester performance with an encore, he sang 'With You' a cover of the original version from Chris Brown. Following a 10 minute applause after she had sung Tim McGraw, Swift told the Manchester audience 'Everytime I hear the word Manchester, I won't be able to stop smiling... I love you!'. [6] According to a German magazine, Swift was supposed to play three shows in Germany. However, tickets for those concerts never went on sale.

On September 30, it was announced that Swift would return to Australia in February 2010 to play another series of concerts, but now in arenas. [7] On October 8, it was announced that the tour would be extended through June 2, 2010, to include 37 additional shows in North America. [8] It has been confirmed that Justin Bieber will be performing at the Gillette Stadium on June 5, 2010, with Swift. [9]

Tour activity [ ]

In a recent interview with US teen magazine Twist , Taylor stated that she was writing songs for her next album while touring, saying that she was 'addicted to recording'. While touring, she released the single ' American Girl ', which was recorded on Verizon's Mobile Recording Studio Bus. It is a cover of the original song by Tom Petty. It is now available via Rhapsody, iTunes Music Store or the Verizon Wireless Download Store.

Here Are All the Songs in ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’ Movie

Find out which songs from the tour setlist were cut

taylor swift fearless tour songs

Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” concert film premiered in October to an enthusiastic crowd of celebrities, fans and of course Taylor’s team, with the star of the film in attendance. As one of the first to see the film, TheWrap got the scoop on which songs from the wildly popular tour made the film, and which songs were cut.

After making speeches in multiple auditoriums for separate audiences, Swift, clad in a sky blue floral-patterned dress (probably in theme for “1989 (Taylor’s Version) with her hair pinned up like the signature bob she had when that album first came out), sat back to enjoy the film’s premiere in one of the IMAX screening rooms with her background vocalists and publicist Tree Paine.

The documentary runs 2 hours and 48 minutes, slightly shorter than Swift’s three-hour setlist and performance, which she has brought to 17 of the United States so far in addition to Mexico. The European leg will kick off in November, with Swift returning for 15 more U.S. shows in October and November of 2024. And now you can rent “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” on digital to watch at home. Read on for the 41 songs that made the cut to truly represent all 10 of Swift’s eras.

Now that the film is heading exclusively to Disney+ for streaming , additional acoustic surprise songs will make it into the film, all of which were filmed during the Los Angeles SoFi shows.

THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT: THE ANTHOLOGY

In the 18 months after Taylor Swift released Midnights, it often felt as though the universe had fully opened up to her. The Eras Tour was breaking records and blowing past the billion-dollar mark; its attendant concert film became the highest-grossing of all time. She generated interest and commerce and headlines everywhere she stepped foot, from tour stops to the tunnels of NFL stadiums. In 2023, she was named both TIME magazine’s Person of the Year and—just as iconic, tbh—Apple Music’s Artist of the Year. But do songs about that level of success speak to you? As the news broke that her highly private six-year relationship to Joe Alwyn had ended, Swifties started Swiftie-ing, quickly recirculating a clip on social media of Swift a few weeks earlier, onstage during an early Eras show, in tears as she sang “champagne problems”—a song she and Alwyn had written together. It was a reminder that, despite the superhero-like aura she now radiates, Swift, at her peak, still hurts like the rest of us. What sets her apart is her ability to sublimate that pain into pop. When she announced her 11th studio album in early 2024—while accepting another Grammy, as one does—we probably shouldn’t have been surprised. “I needed to make it,” she’d say of THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT a few weeks later, to a crowd of—[rubs eyes]—96,000 in Melbourne, Australia. “I’ve never had an album where I’ve needed songwriting more than I needed it on TORTURED POETS.” Working again with trusted collaborators Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner, she returns to the soft, comfortable, bed-like sonics of Midnights. But the stakes feel noticeably higher here: This isn’t so much a breakup album as it is a deep-sea exploration of everything Swift has been feeling, a plunge through emotional debris. On “But Daddy I Love Him”—over strings and guitar that faintly recall her country roots—she lashes out at the crush of scrutiny and expectation she’s been subject to from the start. Naturally, catharsis comes after the chorus: “I’ll tell you something right now,” she sings. “I’d rather burn my whole life down than listen to one more second of all this bitching and moaning.” On “Florida!!!” she and Florence + the Machine team up for a pulpy escape fantasy wherein they Thelma and Louise their way down to the Sunshine State in hopes of starting over with new lives and identities: “Love left me like this,” they sing. “And I don’t want to exist.” At turns hilarious and heartbreaking, TTPD is a study in extremes, Swift leaning into heightened emotions with heightened, hyperbolic, ALL-CAPS language and imagery—how we think when we’re drunk on love or flattened by its sudden disappearance. Note the dark humor she weaves through the Post Malone-enriched opener “Fortnight” (“Your wife waters flowers/I wanna kill her”). Or the thrilling self-deprecation of “Down Bad,” a foray into science fiction wherein Swift likens the warmth of a relationship to being abducted by love-bombing extraterrestrials—only to be left “naked and alone, in a field in my same old town.” But this remains her most candid and unsparing work to date: As a listener, you frequently get the feeling that you’ve stumbled across emails she’d written but never sent, or into conversations you were never meant to hear. There’s a density and a specificity and a ferocity to her lyrical work here that makes 2012’s “All Too Well” feel sorta light by comparison. If you’re the kind of Swiftie who likes to live in the details, well, this one might be your Super Bowl. “You swore that you loved me, but where were the clues?” she asks on the devastating “So Long, London,” a high point. “I died on the altar waiting for the proof.” Alone at a piano on the haunting “loml,” she flips the script on someone who’d told her she was the love of their life, by telling them that they were the loss of hers: “I’ll still see it until I die.” The story, as you likely know, doesn’t end there. We get a glimpse of new beginnings in “The Alchemy” (“This happens once every few lifetimes/These chemicals hit me like white wine”) and something like triumph in the montage-ready synths of “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” when Swift, shattered on the floor, “as the crowd was chanting, ‘More!’,” still finds the strength to deliver: “’Cause I’m a real tough kid and I can handle my shit.” But we also get a sense of acceptance, of newfound perspective. On “Clara Bow”—named after a 1920s movie star who was able to survive the jump from silent film to sound—Swift reflects on the journey of a small-town girl made good, sung from the vantage of an industry obsessed with the next big thing. She zooms out and out and out until, in the album’s closing seconds, she’s singing about herself in the third person, in past tense, acknowledging that nothing is forever. “You look like Taylor Swift in this light, we’re loving it,” she sings. “You’ve got edge she never did/The future’s bright, dazzling.”

Table of contents, pre-tour activity, background and development.

ÂŤHeadlining my own tour is a dream come true. This way I can play more music every night than I ever have before. Having written my own songs, they are all stories in my head, and my goal for this tour is to bring those stories to life. My favorite thing when I go to a concert is having lots of changing things to look at, so I've been working really hard to make this show as multi-dimensional as possible.Âť Taylor Swift

Screen Rant

7 the tortured poets department songs that must be added to taylor swift: the eras tour.

Certain songs on Taylor Swift's new double album, The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology, were made to be performed live on The Eras Tour.

  • Taylor Swift accompanied the release of her eleventh studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, with a surprise second installment containing 15 extra songs.
  • Assuming Taylor Swift incorporates the new album into The Eras Tour set list, some songs from The Tortured Poets Department are better suited to be performed live than others.
  • Songs like "But Daddy I Love Him" and "Who's Afraid Of Little Old Me?" would make for thrilling, captivating performances on The Eras Tour.

If Taylor Swift decides to incorporate her new double album, The Tortured Poets Department, into her shows on The Eras Tour , there are certain songs she must add to the set list. Two hours after Swift's highly anticipated eleventh studio album was released at midnight on April 19, 2024, the songstress dropped a surprise second instalment containing 15 brand-new songs. Combined with the 16 original tracks, there are 31 songs on The Tortured Poets Department : The Anthology double album.

Now that she's embarked on this new musical era, The Tortured Poets Department will have to be incorporated into the live show somehow when Swift goes back on The Eras Tour on May 9, 2024. It's unlikely that she will add a whole extra set considering The Eras Tour concert is already three-and-a-half hours long , but she may adjust the existing set list to make room for TTPD. At the very least, Swift is guaranteed to perform some selections from TTPD as surprise songs during her acoustic sets on tour.

If Swift does incorporate The Tortured Poets Department into the permanent set list, though, the Folklore and Midnights sets are the most at risk of receiving cuts since they're tied for the longest eras with seven songs each. As the maximum for any set on The Eras Tour right now, seven is the most songs Swift can reasonably be expected to add from TTPD to the set list. For her selections, these seven songs from The Tortured Poets Department would translate best to a live performance on The Eras Tour.

The Eras Tour Movie Creates 1 Huge Challenge For Taylor Swift's Next Era

7 but daddy i love him, written by taylor swift & aaron dessner.

On "But Daddy I Love Him," Swift seems to be responding to the general public's unsolicited disapproval of her dating certain men using the trope of a stubborn teenager rebelling against her disapproving parents. The song gives off Fearless vibes, particularly the Romeo & Juliet -centered "Love Story" due to their shared forbidden love narrative, and resembles "august" from Folklore in terms of the production, both of which make for great performances on The Eras Tour.

Many fans have speculated that this song might be about Swift's short-lived public relationship with The 1975 frontman, Matty Healey, in the spring of 2023.

Of every song on The Tortured Poets Department, "But Daddy I Love Him" feels the most fit to be performed live . While listening to the theatrical track, it's easy to visualize what a live performance would look and sound like. The lively, melodramatic chorus and post-chorus were made to be sung in a stadium in front of thousands and the end of the bridge conjures images of Swift frolicking around onstage à la "august" if the instrumental was extended.

Since she borrowed the title from Ariel in The Little Mermaid, a version of which Allie quotes in The Notebook, Swift could include an intro of these characters reciting the titular line before performing "But Daddy I Love Him."

This song also presents so many opportunities for Swift to create a memorable concert experience. Since she borrowed the title from Ariel in The Little Mermaid , a version of which Allie quotes in The Notebook , Swift could include an intro of these characters reciting the titular line before performing "But Daddy I Love Him" or even reference them in her costume. Swift teasing the audience with " you should see your faces " after the fake out about " having his baby " is also poised to become an instantly iconic moment if she performed this song on The Eras Tour.

10 Taylor Swift Songs I Really Wish Were In The Eras Tour Movie

6 florida (featuring florence + the machine), written by taylor swift & florence welch.

Of the two tracks with featured artists on The Tortured Poets Department, "Florida!!!" featuring Florence + The Machine blows the album opener "Fortnight" featuring Post Malone out of the water. This ode to the Sunshine State is already an intoxicating song to listen to on the album, and it would be ten times more exhilarating to experience live on The Eras Tour.

Even if she doesn't add it to the set list, Swift is guaranteed to perform "Florida!!!" as a surprise song during the acoustic set at one of her Miami shows, though.

If Swift added "Florida!!!" to the set list, the crowd stomping their feet along with the heavy drums on the chorus before belting out the titular lyric in unison, exclamation points and all, would be an unforgettable moment every night on The Eras Tour. The line " f**k me up, Florida " that repeats on the bridge and serves as the final lyric of the song would also feel liberating to shout out loud in a crowd setting, especially for the attendees at Swift's three stops in Miami, Florida, between October 18 to 20, 2024.

Sadly, Swift is unlikely to add "Florida!!!" to the permanent set list since Florence + The Machine will not be joining her on The Eras Tour. She could still perform the song solo and sing Florence's parts herself, but this is a long shot since there are no songs on the set list that originally have featured artists. Even if she doesn't add it to the set list, Swift is guaranteed to perform "Florida!!!" as a surprise song during the acoustic set at one of her Miami shows, though.

Swift has brought out opening acts like Phoebe Bridgers and HAIM to perform their duets with her ("Nothing New" and "no body, no crime," respectively) during the main show on The Eras Tour, but these were not permanently added to the set list.

Taylor Swift's Next Album Sets Up A New Eras Tour Movie Cameo That Would Make Up For Cutting HAIM

5 who's afraid of little old me, written by taylor swift.

While most of the songs on The Tortured Poets Department most fit for a live performance are more on the upbeat and lighthearted side, "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?" is the polar opposite. On this haunting track, Swift ruminates on her experience in the spotlight and the treatment she's received as a public figure, calling out the hypocrisy of those who villainize her.

The whole song would make for a chilling, powerful live performance, but hearing Swift scream the titular lyric on the chorus of "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?" would be on another level.

"Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?" is delivered with the same exasperated rage underneath a devilish grin as most of the songs from Swift's Reputation era , especially the pre-chorus, " If you wanted me dead, you should've just said/Nothing makes me feel more alive ." The whole song would make for a chilling, powerful live performance, but hearing Swift scream the titular lyric on the chorus of "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?" would be on another level.

The song is both sonically and thematically similar to "mad woman" from Folklore, as well. Though Swift does not perform "mad woman" on The Eras Tour, a good basis for comparison for how "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?" would feel live is Swift's harrowing performance of "my tears ricochet" from the Folklore set, which the TTPD track also resembles. All of these songs that bear similar themes, subject matter, and overall vibe as " Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?" show how the TTPD track would translate perfectly to a live performance.

4 Imgonnagetyouback

Written by taylor swift & jack antonoff.

On "imgonnagetyouback" from the second installment of The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology, Swift schemes to get her ex back, though she's uncertain of her intentions for doing so. "Imgonnagetyouback" isn't necessarily a stand-out track on the album, but the playful song lends itself well to a live performance that's fun and entertaining for Swift and the audience alike. If executed properly, the lyrics on the bridge, " even if it's handcuffed, I'm leavin' here with you " and " pick your poison, babe, I'm poison either way, " and the lead into the final chorus could all be huge moments during the live performance.

By amping up the production and accompanying the song with some fun choreography, "imgonnagetyouback" has the potential to deliver a performance in line with the 1989 era. In fact, the line on the chorus about smashing up the subject's bike is reminiscent of Swift smashing her boyfriend's fancy car in the "Blank Space" music video, which she referenced via Easter egg on the Eras Tour by wielding a neon golf club during her performance.

9 Taylor Swift Songs That Are Even Better In The Eras Tour Movie Than On The Album

3 so high school.

On the joyous and nostalgic "So High School," Swift gushes about how her adult relationship makes her feel like a lovestruck teenager in the best way. She references teen-centric media like American Pie and Grand Theft Auto and games like "Kiss, Marry, Kill," Spin the Bottle, and Truth or Dare. These details and the premise of the song as a whole provide endless possibilities for different high school-themed costumes, props, set pieces, and even choreography in a live performance of "So High School" on The Eras Tour.

It's also widely speculated that "So High School" is about Swift's relationship with her current boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce, mostly because of the lyric, " you know how to ball, I know Aristotle ." She already shouts him out on The Eras Tour by changing the lyric on "Karma" from " guy on the screen " to " guy on the Chiefs, " but it would be a sweet gesture to include a song that's (supposedly) about Kelce on the set list, especially for the shows where he's in attendance.

Is Travis Kelce In Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Movie?

2 thank you aimee.

On "thanK you aIMee," Swift reflects on how she was ruthlessly tormented by the titular Aimee and realizes that the hell Aimee put her through pushed her to prove herself and succeed. The song is seemingly directed at a mean girl who bullied Swift in school but the deliberately capitalized letters in the title suggest that "thanK you aIMee" is actually a subtle jab at Kim Kardashian and their famous feud. Given this additional context, it might be controversial to include this song on The Eras Tour set list.

Hearing Swift call out bullies and sing about finding her strength would be such a significant experience for all the young children attending The Eras Tour who might be going through the same thing.

As a standalone song separate from any (unconfirmed) lore, "thanK you aIMee" is an empowering anthem about perseverance and overcoming bullying. Hearing Swift call out bullies and sing about finding her strength would be such a significant experience for all the young children attending The Eras Tour who might be going through the same thing.

The production on "thanK you aIMee" is quite understated on the album, but the instrumentals can be bulked up to create more of an atmosphere during the live performance. Given the deeply personal subject matter (whether it's about Kardashian or a real childhood bully, or both), performing "thanK you aIMee" onstage every night would probably be a cathartic experience for Swift , especially the lyric, "I built a legacy that you can't undo ."

1 The Bolter

A bit of a deep cut on The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology, "The Bolter" tells the tale of a woman who bolts (hence the title) at the first sign of trouble in a relationship. The third-person, unraveling narrative is reminiscent of the detached, fictionalized approach Swift took on Folklore , which has proved fruitful in delivering compelling performances on The Eras Tour.

The vast melodic diversity of "The Bolter" also creates sonic distinctions between the verses, chorus, post-chorus, and bridge, which would naturally translate to an engaging live performance.

Though it comes toward the end of the lengthy double album, "The Bolter" stands out due to Swift's vivid storytelling and the varying pitches she sings in throughout the song. The vast melodic diversity of "The Bolter" also creates sonic distinctions between the verses, chorus, post-chorus, and bridge, which would naturally translate to an engaging live performance. Performing "The Bolter" would also provide Taylor Swift with the opportunity to whip out her acoustic guitar during The Tortured Poets Department set on The Eras Tour.

Taylor Swift Reveals Full Track Listing for Re-Recorded ‘Fearless’ Album

Taylor Swift has revealed the complete track listing for her upcoming re-recorded version of her classic album, Fearless . According to a social media post on Saturday (April 3), Fearless (Taylor's Version) will feature a total of 27 tracks, including collaborations with Maren Morris and Keith Urban .

The news comes one day after Swift posted a string of jumbled words and brief song snippets online, challenging fans to put it all together. Her post on Friday (April 2) led fans to speculate that Urban was working with Swift ; Morris' participation on a song titled "You All Over Me" had been announced previously.

"Here’s the full track list, my friends," Swift writes to accompany a post featuring the album's back cover.  "I’m really honored that Keith Urban is a part of this project, duetting on That’s When and singing harmonies on We Were Happy. I was his opening act during the Fearless album era and his music has inspired me endlessly. I’m counting down the minutes til we can all jump into this brave world together, filled with equal parts nostalgia and brand newness."

"Head first, Fearless," she concludes.

Swift's upcoming release is part of an ambitious plan she has to re-record and release the entire back catalog of songs she recorded during her time with Big Machine Label Group, and she's also sharing some songs that never got released previously for the first time.

Fearless was Swift's second studio album, released in November of 2008. The project scored her a long string of pop-country hits that included "Love Story," "White Horse," "You Belong With Me," "Fifteen" and the title song, and it won Album of the Year at the Grammy, CMA and ACM Awards. The project catapulted her from opening act to headliner; Swift launched her first headlining tour , the  Fearless  Tour, on April 23, 2009, with a sold-out concert at the Roberts Municipal Stadium in Evansville, Ind.

Fearless (Taylor's Version)  is due out on April 9, featuring new recordings of its 20 original songs, along with additional bonus tracks that did not appear on the original album.

Swift is undertaking the daunting task of  re-recording  Fearless  and her five other albums  from her BMLG days following her split from the label and a nasty public battle over the rights to her old master recordings.

She signed with Universal Music Group in 2018 after her original record deal with BMLG lapsed. Talent manager Scooter Braun now owns BMLG. Swift says Braun has bullied her over the years, and she has also claimed that she was not notified of the label's sale ahead of time and given a fair chance to acquire her masters or purchase the label to keep control of her music.

Swift has been anything but idle during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to re-recording her old music, she released two brand-new albums,  Folklore  and  Evermore , in 2020.

It’s a Taylor Swift sweep on Australia’s charts, as The Tortured Poets Department (via Universal) and “Fortnight” blast to No. 1.

Tortured Poets opens at the summit of the ARIA Albums Chart , published Friday, April 26, for her lucky 13th leader in these parts.

With that result, Swift boasts the most No. 1 albums for a solo female artist in ARIA chart history, moving ahead of Madonna to claim outright third place.

Post Malone

Taylor swift, reba mcentire to host 2024 academy of country music awards.

All 31 tracks from the double album impact the top 100, with “Robin” the lowest at No. 55. Three older songs sit in the top 100 (“Cruel Summer,” “Anti Hero” and “Lover”), meaning Swift has more than one-third of all songs in the top 100 (34). The previous record was 32 in one week, ARIA reports, held by Michael Jackson and Taylor.

Swift, whose The Eras Tour visited Australia in late 2023 for seven shows, is the only artist in ARIA history to replace themselves at No. 1 on the national albums tally. She has done it three times, including this month with Tortured Poets replacing Lover (earlier, in 2023, Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) replaced Midnights ; and in March 2024, Lover replaced Midnights ).

According to a statement issued late Friday by Universal Music Australia, Tortured Poet s is the most-sold album on vinyl in ARIA history, the market’s most-streamed LP in its opening week, and the biggest album debut since Adele’s 25 in 2015.

Remarkably, only two of the U.S. pop superstar’s studio or re-recorded albums have failed to reach the summit in Australia — her self-titled debut, Taylor Swift (peaking at No. 33 in 2006) and Fearless (No. 2 in 2008). Fearless (Taylor’s Version) did, however, climb the summit in 2021.

In non TTPD -related ARIA Chart news, Pearl Jam bows at No. 2 with Dark Matter, the Seattle rock legends’ 12th studio album. Pearl Jam has had eight No. 1 albums in Australia: Vs. in 1993, Vitalogy in 1994, No Code in 1996, Yield in 1998, Binaural in 2000, Riot Act in 2002, Backspacer in 2009 and Lightning Bolt in 2013. Dark Matter is the followup to 2020’s Gigaton , which peaked at No. 3.

‘So Long, London’ Is a Classic Taylor Swift Track 5 Song

Taylor Swift at a piano

O ne thing is always for sure with Taylor Swift : her most devastating songs will always be the fifth track on her albums. It’s a pattern that fans have noticed since 2012's Red . The fifth song on that album, widely regarded as her magnum opus, is “All Too Well.” But even looking at the albums before Red , the pattern was already there. In an Instagram Live she did before the release of Lover , Swift spoke about the phenomenon and admitted she didn’t really notice she was doing it.

“As I was making albums I guess I was just kind of putting a very vulnerable, personal, honest, emotional song as track five,” she said. Because her fans noticed this, she upheld the Swiftian tradition, and it’s the track her fans look out for.

@xorcontent Taylor Swift explains how every track 5 of her albums are the most vulnerable songs #taylorswift #taylorsversion #taylornation #taylorswifttok ♬ I Wanted to Leave - SYML

By the time a Swift album gets to the fifth track, prepare for a crushing song that is, more often than not, depressingly gorgeous.

Some of the fifth tracks over the course of Swift's career include: “Cold As You” from her self-titled debut album, “White Horse,” off of Fearless , “Dear John” on Speak Now , “Delicate” from Reputation , and “tolerate it” from evermore . These songs contain some of the singer-songwriter’s most biting lyrics, the kind that twist the emotional knife into anyone’s heart. Swift’s eleventh studio album is no different. Track five on her latest project, called “So Long, London,” hints at the slow breakdown of her relationship with British actor Joe Alwyn, who she dated for six years. According to Entertainment Tonight , the two broke up in April of 2023. “The relationship had just run its course,” an anonymous source told ET .

How does Swift address her breakup with Joe Alwyn?

On The Tortured Poets Department 's fifth track, Swift gives a glimpse into the end of her relationship with Alwyn. Swift sings about carrying the weight of a relationship and learning to move on from an emotionally distant lover so that she, too, doesn’t go down with “the ship.” It seems like she did her best to hold on to their relationship, but that wasn’t enough to revive their dying romantic entanglement.

“Pulled him in tighter each time he was drifting away. My spine split from carrying us up the hill,” she sings. "Wet through my clothes, weary bones caught the chill. I stopped trying to make him laugh, stopped trying to drill the safe.”

The lyrics suggest there seemed to be tension toward the end of their relationship. “And you say I abandoned the ship, but I was going down with it,” we hear her sing. “My white knuckle dying grip holding tight to your quiet resentment.”

Taylor Swift stares into the camera from the stage.

There’s no time like the present, Swifties.

On April 19, Taylor Swift dropped her 11th studio album “The Tortured Poet’s Department.” As expected, the 34-year-old singer-songwriter became the internet’s main character.

Some raved about the sprawling, ambitious double album; others criticized the record for its length, subject matter and lyrics.

All we know is that in the seven days that have passed, ticket prices to see Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ live have plummeted for most of her concerts in Europe.

Based on our findings, most shows have seats available that are significantly cheaper than they cost just a week ago.

In fact, some tickets are over $1,000 less than they were on April 19 already.

While it’s not the case for her U.S. and Canada gigs — where prices have mostly stayed flat or slowly risen — we’d argue it might be in your best interest to book tickets to an overseas ‘Eras Tour’ concert given this cooldown.

Want to find out how much tickets cost for ‘Eras Tour’ concerts versus what they were going for on April 19?

We’ve got everything you need to know and more about Taylor Swift’s 2024 tour below.

All prices listed above are subject to fluctuation.

Taylor Swift ‘Eras Tour’ news

Our team has been following the ‘Eras Tour’ closely over the past year.

Over the past few months, we spoke to a Swiftie who  shared some helpful tips  about seeing Taylor live and  came up with a list of all the most exciting fan trends .

Taylor Swift new music

As noted above, Swift’s  “The Tortured Poets Department”  was released at midnight (and subsequently at 2 a.m.) on Friday, April 19.

While every listener will likely come away with their own favorites, we particularly enjoyed the sleek, synth-y “Fortnight,” icy “So Long, London,” anthemic “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” bombastic slow build of “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” and gorgeously arranged “Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus.”

If you want to give it a spin — if you haven’t already, that is — you can find “The Tortured Poets Department”  here .

Taylor Swift opening acts

Taylor only has two opening acts lined up for the ‘Eras Tour’ this year.

Here’s what you need to know about her well-established special guests.

Paramore  will play alongside Swift after mounting a massive 2023 tour of their own. The group, fronted by lead singer Hayley Williams, reunited in 2022 after a five-year hiatus. For fans that want to check out their latest, you can listen to “This Is Why,” their sixth studio album, which dropped in February 2023.

Gracie Abrams , the daughter of film director JJ Abrams and producer Katie McGrath, is a star in her own right. Her song “I miss you, I’m sorry” has upwards of 100 million streams on Spotify, she opened for Olivia Rodrigo on the 2022 “Sour Tour” and headlined her own tour last spring as well.

Huge stars on tour in 2024

Although it will cost an arm and a leg (sometimes more!) to see Swift live this year, there are much more affordable concerts you can attend this year.

Here are just five of our favorite artists you won’t want to miss live.

•  Olivia Rodrigo

•  Kacey Musgraves

•  Pink

•  Chappell Roan

•  Alanis Morissette

Taylor Swift's The Tortured Poets Department is here, but it could be a logistical nightmare for the Eras Tour

A black and white photo of Swift holding up The Tortured Poets Department, and peering through the transparent vinyl

Get ready for another Taylor Swift era.

The Tortured Poets Department (TTPD) is the superstar's 11th studio album and is being released around the world today.

It'll be dropping the second the clock hits midnight on the east coast of America, which will be this afternoon in Australia.

  • 2pm AEST : ACT, New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania, Victoria
  • 1:30pm ACST : Northern Territory and South Australia
  • 12pm AWST : Western Australia

So far, we know the album is a whopping 16 songs (not including bonus vinyl tracks) and features multiple collaborations, including with Florence + The Machine.

We also know the first single will be Fortnight featuring Post Malone, with a music video dropping tomorrow morning as well.

Despite no singles being released in its lead up, clues point to TTPD seemingly being inspired by the five stages of grief : denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.

Plus, many fans have speculated that the album title is a reference to the name of a group chat Swift's ex was part of – The Tortured Man Club.

And while The Tortured Poets Department could very well set new streaming records, it also poses a logistical nightmare for Taylor Swift's Eras Tour: how do you include yet another album into a show that is over three hours long?

Below, two ABC reporters and Swifties weigh up the likelihood of how the megastar might adapt her sell-out tour when it recommences in Europe next month.

We could lose some songs from every era to make room

Jessica : This seems like the most likely course of action. To put things into perspective, the Eras Tour includes songs from nine albums, but their airtime varies wildly. Lover, Folklore and Midnights have at least six songs, while Speak Now gets just two. So this might be a chance to balance things out?

Georgie : It would make the most sense to me. I can't imagine a tour that doesn't spend at least some time on the freshest music. But, this is a unique scenario. You have an artist who is essentially doing a greatest hits tour at the age of 34 while she is still churning out new music.

If she does cut music to make room for Tortured Poets, it will be very divisive. Every fan has their favourite era. But, I think if she was to I would hope she cuts songs she has already toured. You have to remember she put out four (now five) albums since her last tour and I imagine it would make the most sense for her to give more air time to Lover, Folklore, Evermore, Midnights and TTPD.

Jessica : If you were in charge of Taylor Swift's setlist, which songs would you cull? I'd ditch The Archer from the Lover era so it ends with, well, Lover. I'd be ruthless and cut most of the songs from the Red era as nothing compares to All Too Well (10 Minute Version). But keep the Reputation portion as is! It's perfect.

What if smaller eras, like Fearless and Speak Now, got cut altogether?

Taylor Swift performs in a glittering lavender ballgown.

Jessica : I love chaos so I would not bat an eye if Taylor Swift dropped the entire Speak Now era from her tour. (But Enchanted is such a core memory for a lot of fans.) I know this might be a wild concept but there's not one song from her self-titled debut album in the Eras Tour (justice for Our Song!), so make of that what you will.

Georgie : I think this will cause a major generational divide. The beautiful part about the Eras Tour is you have fans new and old coming together. Taylor has been making music since 2009 and the Eras Tour has been a chance for people in their twenties and thirties to dress up in glitter and be teenagers again while sharing the new music with teenagers today. I'm a folklore girl through and through so I am hoping if any eras get sacrificed it's the older ones. But I can't lie, it's pretty special to belt out Love Story with thousands of other people.

Could we lose the two surprise songs for a few Tortured Poets hits?

Georgie : Controversial opinion but I would be ok with this. Although, take this as you want because I have experienced the Eras Tour. But the section is a gamble anyway. You never know what she's going to play and someone is always disappointed or their top pick is played another night. If you cut this section, no-one gets hurt. Maybe she subs it out for three best songs from TTPD?

Jessica : I missed out on tickets for the Eras Tour altogether so I was taken aback seeing fans who did score tickets complaining about which night got "better" surprise songs. You can't please everyone! I agree, this would level the playing field and take the comparison factor out of the tour… but I wonder if that uniqueness is a marketing factor as some super fans attend multiple concerts in the same city.

Sabrina and Taylor smile at each other on stage at a piano that’s decorated with painted flowers

Imagine if she just… didn't play her new album

Georgie : Don't say it or it might come true!

Jessica : I think this would be the riskiest option. Imagine the disappointment on the first night when the tour recommences in Paris on May 9. But some fans, especially in America, who witnessed the Eras Tour last year before this album was announced feel it's unfair if other countries get a different experience. But that's what happens with the passage of time!

Georgie : I see your point but you have to remember we're in an age where many people have watched the Eras Tour happen through TikTok and the cinema release. So is it really missing out when it's been inescapable for over a year? This could be a chance for the people who have waited so long for the Europe leg – who have basically watched the tour on streaming and all over TikTok – to have something unique and worth the cash.

Or she could just include the new album and make the show nearly *four hours* long?

Jessica : I think this option would please the most fans, but I genuinely don't know how she performs for hours on end each night and then travels through different time zones. Oh,  to be a billionaire with a whole team taking care of everything all the time.

Georgie : I don't see this happening. Costs would skyrocket and many stadiums have a noise curfew. That's new costumes, sets and dance routines.

Jessica : But I would eat up new costumes, sets and dance routines! A four-hour concert is outrageous, which makes me think she might very well pick this option. Time will tell.

Georgie : I'm obviously a Swiftie but when I found out about the new album and what that might mean for the tour I just felt… overwhelmed. I'm still processing the release of four albums and two Taylor's Versions in four years. And now she's putting out new music? It's simply too much! The concert is a marathon but if I did have to go to a four-hour show, I'd do it for Ms Swift.

The worst option: Swapping All Too Well (10 Minute Version) for the radio edit to save time

Jessica : Sacrilegious.

Georgie : The people would riot. Jake Gyllenhaal would be thrilled though.

Final thoughts

Jessica : With everything going on in the world, I think this is a fun problem to ponder, and an interesting one for Taylor to tackle. I wish her well in whatever form the Eras Tour takes, because fans are going to have strong opinions either way.

Georgie: I worry that Taylor needs a holiday but, as you said, she's a billionaire now so I think she'll be fine. I hope she tours future albums but I also support her having a rest. Go chill with the cats and Travis. You've danced in high heeled boots for two years.

Clara Bow's family thinks the silent-film star would have loved Taylor Swift's song about her

  • Taylor Swift's new studio album, "The Tortured Poets Department," has been released.
  • The last track on the standard edition of the album is named "Clara Bow" after the silent film star.
  • The actor's great-granddaughters spoke exclusively to BI about hearing the song for the first time.

Insider Today

"You look like Clara Bow in this light" is how Taylor Swift begins the closing track of the standard edition of her latest album, " The Tortured Poets Department ," which was released on Friday.

The song, itself titled " Clara Bow ," is an intimate, guitar-led number that sees Swift recalling conversations with suited-up music executives who compare her to trailblazing, somewhat similar-looking women who came before her.

First, there's Bow herself, the 1920s movie star who broke the Hollywood mold with her unrivaled confidence and candor both on and off screen. This is followed in the second verse by "You look like Stevie Nicks in '75" (the Fleetwood Mac frontwoman has coincidentally written a poem for Swift in the liner notes of physical copies of the album).

It's not hard to see why Swift has been told she looks like either Bow or Nicks; at different points across her three-decade-spanning career, Swift has borne physical resemblances to each of them (think: her unruly curly hair and arched screen-siren eyebrows in her "Fearless" days, and her "Red"-era bangs and boho-inspired fashion choices).

But beyond what she's been told by others, by naming the song "Clara Bow," Swift appears to be signaling an affinity with the original "It" girl whose career reached its apex almost a century ago.

That's certainly how Bow's family — who are more than delighted that the world's biggest pop star has decided to name a track after their late ancestor — has interpreted the song.

"Clara Bow was someone who was unapologetically herself and I think Taylor can say the same of herself," Brittany Grace Bell, one of Bow's great-granddaughters, told Business Insider. "In the song, she sings, 'In a town of fakes, you're the real thing,' and I think she's referring to both herself and Clara. They're not afraid to be themselves and rise above the noise."

Bell's cousin and another one of Bow's great-granddaughters, Nicole Sisneros, who also spoke to BI, said she "felt chills" hearing the song for the first time this week.

"It is hauntingly beautiful the way Taylor uses her songwriting ability and her artistry to draw parallels between Clara's life and her own. It's a really beautiful testament to both of their legacies," she added.

While Sisneros said that both she and Bell, who are the granddaughters of Bow's son Rex Bell Jr., "fell in love with the song" as soon as they heard it, they were apprehensive given that Bow's legacy often gets reduced to its most "salacious" elements.

Related stories

"It's so easy to sensationalize someone's life and focus on the hardships, and that's truly what happened to Clara her whole life," Sisneros said, referring to the tabloid obsession with Bow's troubled upbringing, broken engagements, and mental health struggles, which eventually led her to be dubbed "Crisis-a-day-Clara" by her manager, B.P. Schulberg, according to biographer David Stenn.

As Sisneros pointed out, Swift also "faces constant scrutiny," which she thinks meant Swift was able to "really separate what's sensationalized and speculation and focus on the true beauty of an individual."

One misconception Bell was keen to point out is the narrative that Bow was "pushed out of Hollywood" at age 28. "It isn't true," she said. "She left on her own accord as she wanted to live the rest of her life and raise her children so she retired out on a ranch in Nevada."

This is far from the first time Swift has drawn musical inspiration from historical pop-culture icons. In her discography, she's given a shout-out to Golden Age Hollywood couple Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, written a whole song about Rebekah Harkness, the eccentric 1940s socialite and composer who once owned Swift's Rhode Island home, and dedicated a track to Kennedy family matriarch Ethel Kennedy .

"Taylor is a master at digging. I think looking into the history of Hollywood, certainly, she would have come across Clara Bow and connected with her as an artist and being focused on her raw talent," Sisneros theorized.

"She was probably looking to draw inspiration from people of the past who would consider themselves tortured poets," Bell pointed out. "Clara was a poet and able to speak poetry through her, her acting; Taylor's a poet through her songwriting."

Although Swift did not reach out to the cousins before the release of the song ("We hope that somehow we could connect," Sisneros said), both have long been admirers of her discography.

Sisneros took her eldest daughter to Swift's The Eras Tour during its stopover at Las Vegas' Allegiant Stadium last year. Bell couldn't make it, as she was heavily pregnant with her daughter at the time, but in a "fun connection," her daughter turned one the same day as the release of "The Tortured Poets Department."

Ultimately, for Sisneros and Bell, Swift's immortalization of their great-grandmother in "Clara Bow" is a gift they can hand down to future generations.

They think Bow would have loved Swift, too, referencing something Bow once said about Marilyn Monroe, which Bell thinks could equally apply to the pop star.

"I never met Marilyn Monroe, but if I had, I would have tried very hard to help her. A sex symbol is a heavy load to carry when one is tired, hurt, and bewildered," Bow is quoted as saying in Stenn's biography, "Clara Bow: Runnin' Wild."

"I feel like she would say the same thing about Taylor," Bell concluded. "I think she would feel a nurturing sense over Taylor as today's 'It' girl."
