Three Berks And A Driving Game

Over a decade ago, Top Gear, in it's modern incarnation, was born. Featuring the presenters Jeremy 'Jezza' Clarkson, Richard 'Hamster' Hammond and James 'Captain Slow' May, it took a tongue-in-cheek look at the cars of the time, Clarkson as the loud-mouthed fan of the Tim Taylor way of doing things, feeling that cars similar to the Bugatti Veyron are the greatest things on the road, Hammond, the shortest presenter of the three, with a fondness for panic attacks, and May, who could take an hour to do something Clarkson would have done in five minutes.

Unfortunately, due to a trademark that Gremlin Interactive took out back in 1992, and Jezza getting into a fight with one of the production staff, there would never be a way to enjoy the Top Gear format in a outright video game... until now.

General Concept:

This is, warts and all, Season 3 of The Grand Tour, plus, as a bonus, the first episodes of Season 1 and 2, reimagined as semi-interactive driving games. Straight away, as you boot up the first episode, you have the scene where Jezza is leaving the BBC and finds his hire car, a Ford Mustang Galpin Rocket, waiting for him. As he meets his co-presenters, the progress bar changes to read 'GET READY'...

And now YOU are driving that same Galpin Rocket, as the three of them have a nice friendly car race on the way to Burning Van. The presenters provide what vaguely, possibly, resembles commentary as you drive there, the game taking away control as you arrive there.

That is the general mindset of this game. Five minute segments that allow you personally to drive most of the cars in each segment of the show, interspersed with the show itself. And it's glorious, and exactly what you'd have expected if they'd been able to make a Top Gear game back on the PS3 or XBOX 360.

The controls are surprisingly simple. Accelerate, Brake and a context-sensitive button. On some of the races, this allows you to activate power-ups, which are mostly turbo boosts, but can also involve the typical kind of sabotage they're prone to doing on the actual show.

Similar to The Grand Tour, you are given challenges to complete, which give you a gold, silver or bronze medal depending on how well you do, based on the tasks they were doing, like the final challenges in the first episode is to get the best average speed on all three cars in sequence.

Obviously, some things were impossible to replicate, which is probably why they only did one episode in the first two seasons, but what is replicated is giving you a real chance to get to play The Grand Tour how it should be. The only problem is that the experiences are often over far too soon.

Graphics and Sound:

Now, this is why they likely needed to wait until this generation. There's a good reason the game has to warn you ahead of time to get ready, since the graphics on the in-game segments are as close to 1:1 on the full motion video. Even the voices are spot on, exactly how you'd expect to hear them. The car noise is well sampled, and you really do feel like you're driving the same cars as they are in the show proper.

Replayability:

Now this is where the game suffers. Some of the challenges are way too easy, and when you get used to the controls, you'll be getting the perfect scores all too quickly. Unfortunately, there's not really anything more they can offer. Admittedly, for the price, it's got plenty of replay value, but the game is still one you'll beat in a month or two, and then be done with.

Final Recommendation:

As a interactive Grand Tour experience, it's really good. It hits all the right points, and includes some of the best bits. But they could have still done more, possibly having selected scenes for the first and second seasons, but by focusing on only one season, the experience is over and done all too fast.

If you're a fan of Clarkson, Hammond and May, put down the money, and enjoy watching them do what they do best. But remember that, like any show, you're not going to be watching it forever...

Though designed around the series as much as possible so that one may follow each episode as closely as possible, some artistic licence and copyright negotiation was taken by the developers so that the game may be released.

One of the most jarring copyright-related differences was the Jaguar XE SV Project 8, which appears completely obscured in bubble wrap due to the car's exclusive licence deal with Electronic Arts. Another is the senna which was completely cut out and replaced by the 720s review from season 2. This was done due to the senna's licencing to turn 10 studios and Forza Motorsport/Horizon.

Yesterday, Amazon Game Studios announced that  The Grand Tour Game is now available for pre-order and shows off a new trailer and screenshots. You'll find those below.

The Grand Tour Game   is a racing title developed by Amazon Game Studios based on Amazon's car show that is hosted by James May, Richard Hammond, and Jeremy Clarkson. The game is set to be episodic and will include two episodes from season one and season two as well as new episodes every week during season three that starts on January 18, 2019.

The title will allow you to play alone or with up to three other players in four-player split screen. The game appears to be based on whatever antics they get up to in the real-world show, meaning you might be driving through a desert in a weird contraption, or putting a horse head in your mate's tent. Really though, you'll be driving in exotic locations and completing challenges from the show.

Those that pre-order the title will gain three special vehicles as seen in the show. You'll be able to drive Richard Hammond's bushy eco car from season one, episode four, James May's odd looking firetruck from season two, episode four, and Jeremy Clarkson's beach buggy from season one, in episodes seven and eight.

This isn't the first title from Amazon Game Studios' as  New World  is looking nice. However, the developers game  Breakaway, ended development earlier this year .

The Grand Tour Game will launch for PS4 and Xbox One on January 15, 2019.

The Grand Tour Game could have been a decent little add-on to a brilliant TV show. Instead it crashes and burns at every turn. You can thank to ‘naff handling for that.

With Clarkson, Hammond, and May bidding adieu to the show, The Grand Tour is getting ready for a reboot, complete with fresh faces and a revamped format

• Studio Lambert has reportedly won a contract to create an updated version of The Grand Tour.
• Little is known about the retooled show, but it’s expected to feature new presenters as well as a revised format.

With Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May leaving The Grand Tour , many thought the show was dead. However, a new report suggests that might not be the case.

According to Broadcast , Studio Lambert has been awarded a contract to “develop a fresh version” of the show. Details are limited, but the publication said the studio beat out rival pitches from Shine TV and Orchard Studios.

The show reportedly hasn’t been formally greenlighted at this point, but Studio Lambert is said to be working on an updated format. The reboot is also expected to have new presenters, although there’s no word on how many or who might get the role.

The latter is obviously the biggest question as the bond between Clarkson, Hammond, and May was almost as interesting as whatever they were doing on screen. It’ll certainly be hard to replicate that as Top Gear found out following their departure.

The Sun quoted an unnamed industry insider as saying, “The Grand Tour is one of Prime Video’s most watched shows and Jeremy, James and Richard have a devoted following, but the guys have made no bones about the fact they’re all advancing in years and they have lots of other projects to pursue.” They added the trio wanted to go out on a high note.

While there are more questions than answers at this point, the show isn’t exactly a stranger to reboots. While it initially had a Top Gear -like feel and roughly a dozen episodes per season, The Grand Tour was eventually retooled to focus on a handful of road trips.

It remains unclear if the latest evolution of the show will stick to this format or try to find its own path. However, with Top Gear taking a “rest,” there might be an opportunity to return to that style format.

We begin our Moscow tour beneath the city, exploring the underground palace of the Moscow Metro. From the Square of Revolution station, famous for its huge statues of soviet people (an armed soldier, a farmer with a rooster, a warrior, and more), we’ll move onto some of the most significant stations, where impressive mosaics, columns, and chandeliers will boggle your eyes! Moreover, these stations reveal a big part of soviet reality — the walls depict plenty of Propaganda , with party leaders looking down from images on the walls. Your local guide will share personal stories of his/her family from USSR times, giving you insight into Russia’s complicated past and present. Then we’re coming back up to street level, where we’ll take a break and refuel with some Russian fast food: traditional pancakes, called bliny. And then, stomachs satiated, we are ready to move forward! We’ll take the eco-friendly electric trolleybus, with a route along the Moscow Garden Ring. Used mainly by Russian babushkas(grannies) during the day, the trolleybus hits peak hours in the mornings and evenings, when many locals use it going to and from their days. Our first stop will be the Aviator’s House, one of Stalin’s Seven Sisters, followed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — and you’ll hear the legends of what has gone on inside the walls. Throughout your Moscow tour, you’ll learn curious facts from soviet history while seeing how Russia exists now, 25 years after the USSR.

He didn't take shortcuts and really covered everything that was on the agenda in great detail. We saw beautiful metro stations and learned the history behind them, including many of the murals and designs.
