Voted the “Best tour in America” on Trip Advisor in 2011

This is a fun and entertaining tour, or, as we like to call it, a Viewing. These REAL hearses have been modified to hold a maximum of 8 guests. We tell you stories about Savannah’s ghosts while showing you our remarkable Historic District. Viewings are 75 minutes long.

Hearse Ghost Tour

Welcome to Hearse Ghost Tours. We’re a one-of-a-kind iconic experience in Savannah’s Historic District! 100's of thousands of fun loving mourners have been on our Viewings! Come take a hearse TEST RIDE before your LAST RIDE!

Hearse Ghost Tours

Spooky Stoners Dive Bar Crawl

An evening you will never forget!

Take a stroll through the cobbled streets and moss-grown paths of Downtown Savannah that author and adventurer Spooky Stoner, a seventh-generation local with many a spine-tingling tale created for a spooky dive bar experience. Visit the best dive bars and historic restaurants where Spooky Stoner played music, tended bar, and gave tours for twenty years!

Welcome to the Hearse Ghost Tours.

We’re a one-of-a-kind experience in Savannah, Georgia’s Historic District. There’s no more unique way to see downtown than in a converted hearse that transported thousands of the Dearly Departed.

Since you’ll be riding in a hearse that’s been converted to carry the living instead of the dead, there’s not an excess of space in the back; it’s been turned into a convertible, so the car is open-air and has no heating or AC. Please dress for the weather. The hearse does have a roof and windows that can be closed, so we go rain or clear skies. Keeping our guests’ safety in mind, however, we may need to cancel the Viewing if weather conditions become unsafe. We will inform anyone affected by a weather cancellation as soon as possible. Our drivers have the final call on whether conditions are safe or not to conduct a Viewing; if your Viewing is canceled by us we’ll happily reschedule you or provide a refund if we’re unable to meet your scheduling needs.

Despite many of our guests capturing paranormal photos on our tours (and we love when you share those on our Instagram Page!) our tour is typically more fun than serious. We tell real ghost stories and history, but our goal is to entertain and amuse, not to give you a mobile ghost-hunting experience. Also, Savannah ordinances allow anyone 21 years old and above to bring an alcoholic beverage with them, provided the beverage is in a plastic or Styrofoam container, and no more than 16 oz per cup.

If you need to make any alterations to your reservation, whether that’s changing the number in your party, rescheduling, or cancelling altogether, you have until 24 hours before your Viewing is scheduled to begin; any later and you will not qualify for a refund.

Hearse Ghost Tours

Middle Journey

Solo travel, a night on a hearse ghost tour in savannah.

June 21, 2022

Rene with the ghost hearst tour

A hearse ghost tour could only be pulled off in one city in America, maybe the world, Savannah. No place else has the hutzpah or the ghosts.

I was sitting on my balcony on Oglethorpe Square at dusk, watching the tourists stroll by with ice cream cones in hand from Leopold’s Ice Cream around the corner. The scent of jasmine wafted on the summer breeze as the sky began darkening to a deep blue. I admired the drape of moss over the southern live oak branches that bowed low over the square when something caught my attention.

Rene with the ghost hearst tour

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a vehicle my mind couldn’t comprehend. At first, I thought, “station wagon,” but those are rare now, and there was something else that didn’t add up. Eight people sat where the roof should be, with their shoulders over the roofline and a roof over their heads. The vehicle was black, and on the side in red letters, I saw the words, “hearse ghost tours.”

As they passed, the group laughed at something the driver had said, raised their plastic cups in salute, and took a sip. What in the world? Only in Savannah would you see such a thing, I thought. Of course, I immediately grabbed my phone and booked a hearse ghost tour for the following night.

I’m in a Hearse, not a “Herce”

The word hearse itself is strange. Merriam-Webster says medieval French used the word “herce” for a farm tool to break up and smooth soil, but we’re getting ahead of ourselves there. A herce was also a triangular frame for holding candles. It might be raised over the coffin to bestow honor. Modern English evolved into a “hearse” being a platform for a corpse or coffin into a vehicle to carry the dead. Which is what I currently found myself inside. Except I wasn’t dead and not planning on it anytime soon.

Hearse Ghost Tours in Savannah offers a 75-minute tour of downtown Savannah’s haunted places and spaces. The hearses hold up to eight people and cost about $25 per person to participate in the “viewing.” It’s a novel idea and a lot more economical than a trip to your final resting place, I can assure you.

I was the first person the hearse picked up, so I was in there alone, which wasn’t a reassuring proposition, but it gave me a choice of seats.

“Which is best?” I asked the driver/tour guide.

“You won’t be there for all eternity, so it realllly doesn’t matter,” she said. As I headed for one of the front seats, she added, “But people who sit in the front have complained about feelin’ someone grabbin’ their ankles.”

I shifted to the back seat and prepared to have my funny bone tickled instead.

Adding More Bodies in the Hearse

As we drove across town to collect our other guests, she told me all the companies’ hearses were once owned by funeral homes and used to transport bodies, though I’d assumed as much. What else would a hearse ever be for?

Hearses were originally hand-drawn carts, then horse-drawn wagons. They began as basic modes of transportation to hold bodies, then became more elaborate for the wealthy, eventually trickling down to the masses who wanted to honor their deceased. The motorized hearses we know today didn’t become widely accepted until the 1920s.

Savannah Theatre at night

Fun fact: A First Call vehicle, not a hearse, picks up the bodies of a recently deceased person for morgue or funeral home transport. In the U.S., it’s usually an unmarked white van if they know the person is dead. An ambulance may transport the body if death isn’t apparent during the call.

I was the only passenger for a few blocks, and I waved at onlookers who pointed and laughed as we drove by. This is the only time I’m comfortable with people doing that at my expense. Part of the fun of the hearse is the onlookers. Seeing a hearse filled with people is such a rare sight people can’t help but point and stare. It was like being queen in a bizarre parade of one. They say everyone gets their fifteen minutes of fame and I think spent five of mine on that hearse ghost tour.

The Ghost Hunt

We picked up four women from Tennessee celebrating a birthday – Savannah is the most popular girl’s weekend place you’ll ever see – and our “viewing” official began. Being Savannah, nothing starts until you have a drink in your hand, so our first stop was a bar.

We got our “go cups” filled at McDonough’s Restaurant & Lounge on Chippewa Square across from the Savannah Theatre. It’s a little Irish dive bar filled with locals and character. We took our beverages and piled back in our death mobile for a night haunting the town.

Nearly every corner in Savannah has a ghost story. These buildings pre-date the Civil War and even Revolutionary War, and many doubled as hospitals. Even if they weren’t, back then, without medical advancements, modern technology, and equal and civil rights we have today, life was short and often tragic. That’s a recipe for ghosts. Here are a few of the places we slowly drove past.

Take these stories I heard from my driver with a grain of salt, as I’ve learned tour guides often have different stories and embellish – all in fun.

Sorrell-Weed House

Many consider it the most haunted house in the country. “Ghost Hunters,” HGTV’s “If Walls Could Talk,” “Ghost Adventures,” and the Travel Channel’s “The Most Terrifying Places in America,” among others, have investigated, and all have found paranormal activity of some sort.

Sorrel-Weed House

Two of the most prominent stories involve Sorrel’s wife Matilda, who committed suicide by jumping from the third-story balcony, and his enslaved “mistress” Molly, who killed herself, or was murdered when hung from her carriage house bedroom. It gives you chills just to sit outside at night.

If you’re incredibly brave, they offer a midnight “lock-in” where you can do some ghost hunting yourself.

The Hamilton-Turner Inn

We stopped by the Hamilton-Turner Inn, which has several scary tales. Just looking at it, while lovely in the daytime, at night, it seems like it was made to be the set of a horror movie. Many say it was the inspiration for Walt Disney’s Haunted Mansion.

Hamilton-Turner Inn

The ghosts include a cigar-smoking man on the rooftop where a guard was murdered and a little girl who fell to her death down the basement stairs, among others. Several guests have reported ghosts getting into bed with them and unexplainable sounds at night. The good news is anyone can stay there and find out! Most guests report only a lovely time.

Old Chatham County jail

The Old Chatham County Jail was built in 1887 and was destroyed by fire in 1898. Many gruesome things happened and many died in the building when laws and regulations were not what they are now. I’ll leave it at that. Still, they rebuilt it and used it until 1978. It sat empty for some seriously haunted years before being donated to SCAD, who renamed it Habersham Hall. In 2015 the Savannah Ghost Research Society reported more than 50 incidents of ghostly activity during their stay. Not a dorm I’d be interested in living. Have fun, SCAD students.

The Pirates House

The 250-year-old Pirates House is the city’s most well-known haunt. There, pirates brutally shanghaied men in its underground tunnels and forced to serve on boats. People say they’ve seen a lady in white at the top of the staircase and other ghosts drop bottles, play tricks on staff and loom over visitors. It sounds like a fun place to get a dinner! I’ve eaten there and survived, so you probably will too. The food was good and nobody tried to nab me, or my teenage daughter and I would have given her away. Just kidding!

The Pirates House

17hundred90 Inn and Restaurant

Midway through the hearse ghost tour, we stopped at the inn. There are a few ghosts here, but Anna is the haint that’s made herself known. It’s said that she was a bride of an arranged marriage. Her angry husband probably pushed her from her window to her death. He was angry after watching her weep at the window as the sailor she loved set sail down the Savannah River. Ah, young love.

Now, guests staying in her former room say their things are mysteriously moved, they are nudged when nobody is around, and their bedcovers a pulled by ghostly hands. The food in the restaurant is exceptional, so maybe a little haunting is worth it.

The Olde Pink House

The spirits of the once enslaved children are believed to haunt the basement. It’s said they knock down cutlery and lock the bathroom doors. The children also prank patrons who use the basement bathroom, locking the stalls and bathroom doors with guests still inside. Ghostly hands knock bottles of alcohol out of the staff’s hands and their holders.

The Olde Pink House

The Candler Oak Tree

The massive tree across from Forsyth Park is distinct for a few reasons. It’s been alive since the 1700s and has a spread covering over 100 feet. People stop to stare at its magnificence, and we pulled up to do the same, but for a different reason. Our guide said it’s also known as “a hanging tree.” It wouldn’t be hard to believe since it’s across from a public square, but I couldn’t find any history to support it. We should always be leery of what tour guides and bloggers tell us. It’s a great, historic tree in a city filled with great trees. If only trees could talk.

The Mercer-Williams House

The book “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil” was based around the true-crime story that took place inside this house. Antique dealer Jim Williams shot and killed his workman/lover of Danny Hansford in the front office of the home. Williams was later tried for murder three or four times and eventually found not guilty. Williams later died in the front parlor of the house. It’s not hard to think either one or both men still hang about.

Mercer-Williams House

Exiting the Hearse, but Still Alive

The guide dropped us back off, where she picked us up, and I continued my night with a stroll through the neighborhood. It wasn’t the scariest night I’ve ever spent, but it was a lot of fun. In what other city can you ride around in hearse hearing ghost stories? What other city so diligently collects its ghost stories? The only one that comes close is New Orleans, and I think Savannah may have them beat.

If you’re visiting Savannah, a hearse ghost tour is a fun, unique way to ensure you won’t be bored stiff.

So much fun, great driver who was full of ghost stories and Savannah history. We will definately do this again on the next visit!!

Had some impromptu guests arrive and was looking for some midweek activities for them. Having never done the ghost tours before I was pleasantly surprised at how much I did not know about Savannahs ghostly history. Our driver was prompt, polite, informative and had a 'gallows humor", starting with his name "Robin Graves'. The hearse was as comfortable as hearses can be. Its all about the kitsch not the comfort. Which my guests loved. In any case, nice outing for both locals and out of towners.

Had Tim as our guide and we had a blast. I think he learned more from us than we did from him (not ghost related). It was the favorite part of our trip! Hello, Tim from ND!

This was a hilariously fun tour we did on Halloween Eve. My friend and I had booked the tour months ago. We were picked up at the Holiday Inn Express on Bay Street. No issues finding the location. We drove around for a while and we had a hoot of a time. All of a sudden tour driver, who called himself peg leg by the way, backed into a dark parking lot and didn't say a word. We all started freaking out and had no idea what was going on. He come out of the building, after unlocking it and told us all to get out of the hearse. We walked into this dark room with a fake body hanging from the ceiling and he told us to look at a neuse in the corner and turned the lights out and scared the daylights out of us! It was hilarious. Then we went into the "oddity museum". We had gotten drinks and brought them with us. No issues.

We have been on a few Savannah ghost tours over the years and always wanted to try the hearse tour. There were 6 of us and we had the hearse to ourselves. Jessica was our guide and she was a great storyteller and good with answering questions from my 10yr old niece. We hit a few spots and heard a few stories we hadn't heard before on other tours. I'd recommend giving it a try!

The driver was amazing! She was very informative and had lots of good stories to share. We loved it.

It's a fun time touring, and it's not scary so it's perfectly fine for kids. It's some facts mixed with rumors, you guess which is which lol. This was my 2nd time.

The best thing about this tour was seeing the house slit up at night. Soooo not worth the money, not scary or creepy at all, and the driver bored us to tears!!! Skip this tour and just do the trolley during the day!

There are tons of options for ghost tours in Savannah, but Hearse Tours has really made an effort to stand out. The difference? You ride in a decommissioned hearse that—in a previous life—was used for at least 15 years by funeral parlors to transport the dead (meaning thousands of bodies have been in it). The cars only hold up to eight guests, so you can also be sure of a relatively small group. The guides are knowledgeable and use lots of humor to make this an excellent outing.

Plan the Perfect Trip to Savannah

A Local’s Guide to the Spookiest Savannah Ghost Tours

Hand-painted ghost tours in Savannah sign with white text on a black background that reads "Due to Ghostly Encounters - Tour at your own risk!"

If you’re trying to find the best ghost tours in Savannah but are having a hard time making a decision because there are just too many options — I hear ya!

That analysis paralysis sets in quickly once you see how fun they all look.

I can help, though!

My friends and family always want to go on ghost tours when they visit, so that means I’ve had a lot of experience seeing which ones are best.

Savannah Walking Ghost Tours

If you’re on the hunt for the scariest ghost tours in Savannah, the nighttime walking tours are by far the best option.

There’s simply no comparison for being on foot to experience the Historic District’s most haunted locations.

It will truly give you the heebie-jeebies!

Pros of a Nighttime Walking Ghost Tour

Here’s the thing…

When you’re on foot you can get up close and personal with the spirits of the night — much more so than when you’re riding around in a hearse or trolley with loudspeakers blaring.

If I learned anything from watching Scooby Doo as a child, it’s that you have to be quiet to sneak up on ghosts. Zoinks!

The Spanish moss that looks so pretty during the day casts ominous shadows over the Historic District at night, and the dimly lit cobblestone streets majorly add to the spook factor.

A path in Forsyth Park, dimly lit by gas lanterns. The park is considered one of the most haunted places in Savannah Georgia

Cons of a Savannah Walking Ghost Tour

Of course, the walking tours have their downsides, too.

 • The max number of guests allowed per tour is 30, but I’ve seen larger groups than that wandering around. When the groups are too big, it’s difficult to hear your guide.
 • The pace can also be slow, since the group has to move at the speed of the slowest person.
 • Finally, since much of Savannah’s Historic District is an open-container zone, sometimes you’ll get people who are drinking on the tour, and they can get obnoxious and ruin things for everyone else.

Fortunately, the majority of the heavy drinkers tend to stick to the pub crawls, which I’ve separated into their own category further below.

Best Walking Ghost Tours in Savannah GA

 • Savannah Dark History Tour
 • History & Haunts Candlelit Tour
 • Savannah Ghostwalker Tour
 • Sixth Sense Savannah Adults-Only Tour

The Dark History Tour is nice because it includes earbuds so you can hear the guide. That means you won’t miss out on the ghost stories even when the streets are noisy. ( Or, if you’re like me, you won’t miss any details even if you wander off to take photos!)

The History & Haunts Tour is led by a guide dressed in historic attire who carries an old lantern around. I appreciate that this company doesn’t tell tall tales, and the guides are respectful of local homeowners’ properties. Plus, it’s just fun to explore the city by candlelight!

The Ghostwalker Tour is an excellent option if you’re trying to avoid alcohol, since none is allowed during their tours! They also cap the tour at 15 attendees, so it’s a better experience if you truly want to ask questions and learn Savannah’s haunted history.

I appreciate the Sixth Sense Tour because it’s a female-owned business that shakes things up a bit. They visit the Espy House and talk about the old Candler tunnels, and I like that it’s different from the cookie-cutter stories you hear on many other tours.

Hand-painted sign on a brick wall in Savannah that reads "Due to Ghostly Encounters - Tour at your own risk!"

VERDICT: If you’re physically able, the walking tours are the way to go! They’re the spookiest option, and they’re much better for the environment than the alternatives.

Savannah Haunted Pub Crawls

It doesn’t get much more “Savannah” than chasing spirits while you’re sipping on spirits !

Since you’ll be bar-hopping your way through the Historic District, Haunted Pub Crawls are typically limited to people who are 21+.

Pros of a Savannah Haunted Pub Crawl

During a pub crawl, you’ll visit three to five bars during a two-hour time period, and you’ll be able to order a drink at each spot.

It’s a nice way to experience a few popular watering holes to decide which you like best.

Pub crawls are also an excellent way to meet people in a new city!

Plus, they make a good option for the ever-popular bachelor and bachelorette parties that are always happening in Savannah.

Thanks to the city’s generous open container policy, if you aren’t finished with your drink when it’s time to leave, you can take your alcohol to go…aka “take a traveler”.

Cons of the Haunted Pub Crawls

Make note that the cost of alcohol is NOT usually included in the purchase of your ticket.

There are a few exceptions to that rule, and those are starred below.

Also, as noted above, people who don’t know their limits can ruin the fun for everyone.

It’s up to the individual guide to maintain crowd control.

This option is perfect for groups.

Haunted Pubs You’ll Likely Visit

Bars you’ll visit during the haunted pub tours include Moon River Brewing, the pub at 17Hundred90 Inn, and Tondee’s Tavern.

Moon River Brewing originally housed a hotel, post office, bank, and bar — all under one roof. It’s widely considered one of the most haunted places in Savannah .

At the haunted 17Hundred90 Inn , you might see the ghost of Thaddeus – a young boy who leaves behind shiny pennies for guests to pick up.

The restaurant also has a more sinister spirit who likes to make startling noises and throw things at the staff.

Tondee’s Tavern is reportedly haunted by a few different ghosts.

The building has a long history to it — including a brief stint as the city’s headquarters after General Sherman took hold of Savannah during the American Civil War.

NOTE : You’re not required to order drinks on the haunted pub tours, so don’t feel obligated. You’re welcome to just listen in on the stories and enjoy visiting the locations.

 • Savannah Hearse Tours

Few things screams “I’m a tourist” faster than riding around Savannah in a beat-up old hearse while a tour guide blasts stories at you over a loudspeaker.

Still, the tours are popular — and rightly so since you get to ride around in a real hearse that’s been converted to “carry the living instead of the dead.”

Pros of the Hearse Tours

You can book an entire hearse for a private tour, so they make a great option for anyone who is trying to social distance and wants personal space.

Another perk of the hearse tours is that you can make requests if there’s a specific spot you want to see.

That means that if you want to head into the Starland District or if there’s a place you’d like to check out that isn’t on any other ghost tour, the hearse tours will likely take you there.

Cons of a Savannah Hearse Tour

The biggest downside is that the hearses are old and not very comfortable.

Maybe that’s part of the experience?

Since you’ll be listening to your guide through a speaker system, their tours don’t feel as personable.

In my opinion, the hearse tours are more for entertainment and aren’t nearly as spooky as the walking tours.

They fall on the cheesy side, but intentionally so.

An older model black hearse with red writing on the side drives through Savannah's Historic District with a load of tourists

VERDICT: If you want a personalized tour or want to stick with your small group then these are a good choice. However, if you want to be scared silly, go on one of the walking tours instead.

Savannah Haunted Trolley Tours

Trolley tours offer somewhat of a middle-ground between the walking tours and the hearse tours.

They aren’t very spooky, but if you have mobility issues or have young kids in tow, they’re much more comfortable than the hearse tours.

The trolley tours will cart you around past many of Savannah’s haunted locations, and you’ll even get to go inside a few places — although that list varies based on which trolley tour you take.

Savannah Haunted Trolley Tour Options

 • Old Town Trolley Ghosts & Gravestones Tour
 • Old Savannah Tours Grave Encounters Nighttime Trolley Tour
 • The Savannah Underground Immersive Ghost Hunt Nighttime Trolley Tour

A perk of the Ghosts & Gravestones tour is that they offer two exclusive stops that you’re only able to experience on their haunted trolley tours.

They include a nighttime tour of the historic Andrew Low House and a stop at Perkins & Sons Ship Chandlery.

The Ghosts and Gravestones trolley at night parked beneath a large oak tree with Spanish moss hanging from its limbs

One perk of Old Savannah Tour’s Grave Encounters Trolley is that they’ll pick you up at your hotel.

The tour also has costumed actors that jump on board to help narrate the stories of the ghosts they portray, so that makes it more entertaining for kids.

You can purchase just the trolley tour or upgrade to the tour plus dinner.

The combo ticket includes dinner at The Pirates’ House, where you’ll get a tour of the original rum cellar where real pirates used to hang out.

The Pirates’ House is considered one of the most haunted restaurants in Savannah !

The Savannah Underground Tour includes a neat interactive show where actors narrate three true-crime tales that occurred during Savannah’s early days.

VERDICT: Choose a haunted trolley ride if you have mobility issues but still want to experience the haunted side of the city. Expect the trolley tours to fall on the cheesy side! (Don’t say I didn’t warn you.) Read my Savannah ghost tours trolley post for recent reviews.

Savannah Paranormal Tours & Experiences

Want to try your hand at searching for ghosts? Savannah’s a great place to do it!

There are a few tours in the city that lend you ghost hunting equipment, teach you how to use it, and then send you off to find a ghost of your own.

These tours use equipment like dowsing rods, EVP recorders, and EMF sensors to track down any ghosts in the area.

 • Historic Savannah Theatre 3-Hour Paranormal Investigation – Reader favorite!
 • The Witching Hour 2-Hour Paranormal Walking Ghost Tour – Another reader favorite!

The Witching Hour Paranormal Ghost Tour is led by Brigid, a self-described clairvoyant, plus a few of her paranormal-enthusiast friends.

She and her team focus on the use of dowsing rods in an attempt to communicate with known spirits in places like Colonial Park Cemetery .

Hers is a family-friendly tour, and she even offers a sage cleansing at the end to ensure no spirits follow you home.

Got Ghosts! Paranormal Activity Tour is led by Patrick Burns, host of the TV show “Haunting Evidence.” His tours are about two hours long.

You’ll hear all about Patrick’s first-hand spiritual encounters, and he brings EVP recordings that you can listen to during a few of the stops on the tour.

A Southern live oak, its branches loaded with Spanish moss, grows amongst tombs in Colonial Park Cemetery

VERDICT: Paranormal activity tours work best when you go into them with an open mind. You have to believe anything is possible when it comes to communicating with Savannah’s spirits.

Savannah Haunted House Tours

While there are a plethora of different options for ghost tours in Savannah, you may be surprised to hear that there aren’t that many haunted house tours in the city.

Most of the tours listed above walk or drive past Savannah’s haunted houses but don’t go inside.

The Sorrel Weed House is rare because you can explore the home’s interior while a guide explains its unusual history.

They even offer a paranormal investigation so you can try your hand at using some ghost hunting equipment inside the home.

 • Sorrel Weed Haunted House Tour s
 • Sorrel Weed Paranormal Tours & Lock-In

The orange, red, and green facade of the Sorrel-Weed House, a popular spot for ghost tours in Savannah

VERDICT: I always say it’s good to take the opportunity to tour Savannah’s historic homes while they’re open to the public, since they could revert back to private use at any time.

True Crime Savannah Ghost Tours

If you’re a fan of true crime podcasts, these tours might be just your speed.

Instead of communicating with spirits or photographing orbs, you’ll hear about real life crimes of passion that have occurred in Savannah.

You’ll learn about the notorious Mercer Williams House , the skeleton found inside the walls of the Foley House Inn, the hanging of Alice Riley in Wright Square, and many other spooky Savannah stories.

 • Strangled, Not Stirred: Savannah True Crime Pub Crawl
 • Mad Cat’s True Crime & Wine Tour – Reader favorite!

A dense fog settles over Wright Square in the dark early-morning hours in Savannah, providing a sinister aura

VERDICT: As far as I’m concerned, every street in Savannah has been the scene of a crime at least once. Case in point: Savannah Crime Map 2021 and Current Savannah Crime Map .

Spooky Savannah Ghost Tours (Ages 18+)

I recently decided to create a separate category to keep track of some of the scariest ghost tours in Savannah .

Whenever readers tell me about a tour that falls more on the scary side, I’ll add it to this list.

 • Blue Orb Uncensored Nighttime Walking Zombie Tour of Savannah (Ages 18+)
 • Sixth Sense Savannah Adults-Only Walking Tour
 • Spirits & Scoundrels Adults-Only Walking Tour

These tours are for the 18+ crowd, and — although they don’t necessarily stop in bars for drinks — they usually don’t mind if you tote your own to go cup along the route. (If you’re of legal age, that is.)

BW image of spooky stairs with wrought iron railings

VERDICT: Choose these tours if you’re into the macabre and are hoping to get spine-tingling chills and/or goosebumps at least once during your outing.

Family-Friendly Savannah Ghost Tours

I realize some of you have kids in tow and need family-friendly options to provide an hour or two of entertainment. I totally get that!

After all, I experienced my first Savannah ghost tour when I was in my more impressionable years.

That was back in the days when tour guides still paraded groups past the beautiful Hampton Lillibridge House — one of the only homes in Savannah where an actual exorcism was performed.

It was also before there were vast numbers of ghost tours to choose from like there are today.

That tour certainly made a lasting impression on me, and I’m willing to bet a similar one will probably do the same for your kids!

The Top Family-Friendly Ghost Tours in Savannah

 • Blue Orb Savannah Shadows: All Ages Ghost Tour
 • Fraidy Cat: The Family Fun Ghost Tour of Savannah
 • Grave Tales Fun for the Whole Family Ghost Tour

VERDICT: Family-friendly ghost tours are a fantastic way to keep the kids entertained while also guaranteeing they won’t soon forget their trip to Savannah.

Best Ghost Tours in Savannah

I hope I haven’t overwhelmed you with all the options for ghost tours in Savannah ! There are just so many.

The intent here was for you to be better prepared to make a choice of the best tour for you.

Each type of tour has its pros and cons, but they’re all in good fun and all part of the weird and wacky Savannah experience.

Just embrace the supernatural, and let your imagination run wild.

You never know… you might get home and find you’ve captured a ghost in one of your photos!

By Eric Curl / Savannahagenda.com

Sept. 8, 2022 update – The Savannah City Council approved Hearse Ghost Tours plan to renovate and use the building for parking its hearses, as recommended by the Metropolitan Planning Commission.

Aug. 17, 2022 – While dead people are the basis of the business, dead vehicles could kill it.

To protect 10 converted hearses from the wicked elements, the owner of Hearse Ghost Tours is planning on resurrecting the vacant building at 1501 East Broad St. as a parking garage for the Savannah tour company’s vehicles, as approved by the Metropolitan Planning Commission on Tuesday.

The historic building has had many uses over the years, including a frozen food lockers facility from 1916 past 1955, according to the MPC. The Victory Prayer Synagogue also brought the spirit alive in the building, as demonstrated in this 2016 Youtube video . And the praise team unleashed the soul during this 2012 service , while life is celebrated right during this Facebook post from a funeral (RIPUncleKeith) in April 2019.

Sabrina Wenum purchased the property from the synagogue for $203,000 in June 2020, according to the property record.

The building now sits vacant and boarded up, but will be renovated as part of the plan, as submitted by the tour company’s owner, Carol Higgins. The project will provide an an alternative parking option to the outdoor lot across the street that the tour company currently uses. That outdoor lot will in turn be used for employee parking.

The proposed parking facility would only be used for the purpose of storing the tour vehicles and taking them out for evening hours, as proposed.

The ghost tour company provides three evening tours Monday through Sunday, seven days a week at 6 p.m., 8 p.m., and 10 p.m.

The parking plan will next have to go before the Savannah City Council for approval before being implemented.

Notably, it served as a backdrop in the 1997 film Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, starring Kevin Spacey and John Cusack, an adaptation of John Berendt’s novel. Visit Mercer Williams House Museum and Monterey Square

Savannah has numerous beautiful squares, but this one stands out for a few unique reasons. Notably, it served as a backdrop in the 1997 film Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil , starring Kevin Spacey and John Cusack, an adaptation of John Berendt’s novel. Encircling the monument dedicated to Casimir Pulaski, the square features meticulously maintained gardens and serene oak trees adorned with Spanish moss. Additionally, the surrounding structures are among Savannah’s oldest, dating back to the 1800s, adding a historical charm to the area.

While the millennial generation is, in fact, a group of distinct, independent-minded individuals, many of them share common traits and values. This is important when we consider that millennials are moving to certain cities in large numbers.

A group of SmartAsset researchers determined the percentage of millennials that represent new arrivals in certain cities. Here are the top cities drawing millennials.

See Forsyth Park

For nature lovers, Forsyth Park is one of the top things to do in Savannah. This large city park covers 30 acres. It is famous for its winding walking paths, shady spots perfect for picnics beneath the majestic oaks, and the iconic fountain built in 1858. The fountain is meant to imitate the fountains at the Place de la Concorde in Paris. You’ll also find two children’s playgrounds and a fragrant garden created for blind people.

 • 678taryns 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Tales of war dead, broken hearts and spikey fences... We had a terrific time on the Savannah Hearse Ghost Tour! Our guide was Robin Graves (did everyone get that?) and the masked crusader came ready with a booming voice, creepy stories, solid dad jokes, and some hidden pop culture references that a few of us got and appreciated :) This was my second time taking this tour, and it was a ton of fun. It's much better to take a ghost tour in a vehicle (and pass by the dozens of walking tours), because we were comfortable and could cover a lot more ground. Pro tip- you are seated on top of the hearse with all the wind blowing on you, so be sure to bring a sweater or a jacket. Read more Written April 7, 2024

 • Rileydunworth 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Don’t recommend Wow where to begin. Anita casket was our tour guide and she was terrible. A person in our group told her we started getting the hearse tours in Nashville and she made us sound like we were crazy and said that isn’t true, it’s exclusive to Savannah. Not only did we circle every single square 3+ times, but Anita was BORING. Finally, my mom started to have a medical emergency and said she needed to get off the tour. Anita said it would not be possible to stop the tour. Finally we said it’s okay if we can’t get back on, but we need to get off immediately because it was an emergency. Anita pulled over and said she could not let us off til she called her supervisor, where we told her again that it was an emergency. Finally my mom rushed off and and instead of Anita asking us if she was okay she became pissed off that we messed up her tour. I told her we were sorry and it was an emergency and she continued to become rude and irate and allowed the other tour guests to heckle us instead of diffusing the situation. Anita was rude from the start and I would not recommend this tour at all. Read more Written November 11, 2023
