The Pretty Reckless are a four piece hard rock band hailing from New York City, US, featuring the vocal and guitar talents of actress Taylor Momsen.

Best known for her role in the TV series "Gossip Girl," Taylor Momsen also formed The Pretty Reckless in 2009, playing alongside Mark Damon (bass), Jamie Perkins (drums) and Ben Phillips (lead guitar, backing vocals). The band play a brand of hard rock influenced by the likes of Nirvana, Joan Jett Hole that is very accessible.

Their debut album "Light Me Up" (released August 27, 2010) achieved moderate success, most notably with the single "Make Me Wanna Die." Following this album release they embarked on an international tour, also featuring as part of the line up for the Vans Warped Tour. Following this success, they were invited to perform as the support act for Marilyn Manson and Evanescence, which helped to establish new fans and grow The Pretty Reckless' popularity.

Their second studio album "Going to Hell" released in 2014 saw the band achieve a new level of success. The singles "Kill Me," "Going to Hell" and "Heaven Knows" were well received, with "Heaven Knows" topping both the UK and US rock charts. The Pretty Reckless achieved a number one spot with two of their first hit singles "Heaven Knows" and "Messed Up World," the first time a female-fronted band has done so. The band also had a song featured on the "Kick-Ass" soundtrack, with the single, "Make Me Wanna Die."

Live reviews

Somebody mixed my medicine.' Guess whose 'in my head again'? Pretty Reckless--the world's greatest American rock band of this generation. These days in the 21st century, rock artists are mixing with soul country or mainstream pop, trying to be something they're not. But Pretty Reckless doesn't swing like that. They allow real, hardcore, bloody rock and roll to live on in their own twisted, addicting ways.

Their 'Light Me Up' album did more than just set my passion on fire for these talented members. Ben Phillips stellar guitar skills ignited my inner rock (I still pretend to do mini guitar solos alone in my bedroom) and Taylor Momsen's raspy, edgy voice sends thrilling chills up my spine that I crave for everyday. You can never forget the heart pumping bass from Mark Damon and the mad drumming from Jamie Perkins. When they work together to create such masterpieces like 'F*cked Up World' and 'Medicine' that are dubbed into my iPod, I fangirl enough to 'Make Me Wanna Die'.

When they had their first chart-topping single, 'Heaven Knows', I would seriously be surprised if heaven DIDN'T know Pretty Reckless. 'Going To Hell', their newest album, is glued on repeat to this day. In the album, the way that the band adds good old rock, blends of heavy metal and even some slower songs that show the ability of Momesen to produce a successful combination that conveys both emotion and adrenaline is mind blowing.

Which is exactly what Pretty Reckless is. Mind blowing.

And to think, what are their concerts like exactly? It makes you feel like you're living the impossible, whether it be a 'Zombie' or breathing 'Under the Water', seeing them live will make you question yourself--can this century still offer REAL rock and roll at a concert? The answer is yes. It's The Pretty Reckless, a badass band that I've fallen hard in love with. Flashing lights, surrounding smoke, rock lovers swarming like a sea around you, the floor shaking with bouncing feet, ears ringing from the smashing beats, and the chills up your arm because of Momsen's voice--the perfect concert.

Now if you still don't believe that The Pretty Reckless is one of the greatest American rock bands of the century, why not give them a shot. Plug in your headphones, lean back, close your eyes and sink into The Pretty Reckless's world of madness. Listen to their lyrics. Feel the beat. Take a minute for the spell to take over. Besides, you have 'Nothing Left To Lose'.

THE PRETTY RECKLESS -

Amazing. That about sums it up. Despite jet lag, which they made a bit of fun with, they had lots of energy and were clearly enjoying themselves. They were enthusiastic and happy to be there, and kept relaying that in some way shape or form, lots of thanking people for being there.

There was a good mix of songs from across the albums and they had taken note of the most asked for song in general from their fans and included it, which was Just Tonight.

There was a downside. And it was NOT The Pretty Reckless' fault.

ROCK CITY NOTTINGHAM -

I hope TPR never go there again. I only went to Nottingham because Manchester was sold out when I was looking (all UK dates sold out btw), and I'll probably never go again.

They kept the audience standing outside for an extra 30 minutes - no info as to why.

Once inside, they pumped freezing cold air from the AC onto everyone (after being stood out in January weather) - did not act on audience asking to shut it off, or seem to care that people had scarves over their face, hats/hoods on, couldn't take their coats off and were shaking - despite huddled in a crowd.

And then the WORST thing - which directly affected TPR - was that they made them cut their set, and pretty much forced them off the stage. They told them between songs, and TPR told us they had to cut songs because the venue wanted to open their night club (at this point it was 9.30pm ish). The venue got boo'd, and to TPR credit they were pros about it.

But they did two more songs that they picked to finish with instead, and had to make a hasty exist. And when the unhappy crowd refused to move, Rock City turned the lights on and started dismantling the set. It was just before 10pm. For a rock show. In a venue that claims to be the UKs leading venue for music.

When we got outside, there was maybe 20 people stood waiting to go into the night club. 20 people, over a SOLD OUT show. That's the way they treat their guests and the fans that come to see them.

SO ALL IN ALL -

The Pretty Reckless were GREAT, PROFESSIONAL, ENTHUSIASTIC, INTERACTIVE and AWESOME.

Rock City Nottingham were RUDE, UNPROFESSIONAL and just RUBBISH.

But can't wait to see TPR again - and I hope (and doubt they will) receive the same treatment from their other dates.

Great show, really put some effort in, and my daughter (who discovered this band for me) totally loved it. Only 1 1/2 hours long for the headline act, but for a band with only a couple of albums that's forgiveable, and with TWO support bands it was plenty late enough anyway! Wish there'd been time to fit in My Medicine to the setlist.

But what was with the light show? Don't get me wrong, I've no problem with doing something interesting with the lights - but the lighting designer here I think believed it was primarily a light show, with some music to accompany it. More annoyingly, all the lights were on the stage, and facing out into the audience, including some MAJORLY bright strobes.

Surely at least one of the functions of the lights is to enable the audience to see the band? In this case, the audience was mostly blinded by the lights shining straight at them, while the band stood in shadows. Fail.

Still, the packed audience was in a great mood, and enjoyed the show from start to finish, including both support bands.

Speaking of whom, Nothing More were... OK. A bit too much like being just noise, and with experimental bits, for me, but that's just my taste. Top marks for effort, especially the singer, and the cool drum thing in the last song. Heaven's Basement were much more enjoyable, with a hint of pop catchy-ness but the rawness and noise you need, I'll have to check out their recorded stuff.

I have been suffering from my spinal injury. I have noted it several times to the lead singer Taylor Momsen online this year. I was in a lot of pain and canceled 2 flights to Virginia on April 26th. I did not make it to the concert and I have no idea what they are like in person performing live. Heartbreak from missing concerts has become overwhelming. As a very devoted fan to The Pretty Reckless amazing rock music, I can only say that I truly hate online social fan sites and clubs across the ocean and into London. Fans are haters of new fans and good music. Love of a singers hot body is disgusting to hear about over and over from nasty old men who are crude and married and want a cheap fling. I love music and travel and big concerts and tours with good friends. I do not care for everything that has gone wrong this year with lack of communication and intolerance to my great endurance with coping well with my own ADHD and good morals and good work ethics and extremely tender heart. This was the 3rd concert I have missed of The Pretty Reckless. I have tried so hard and nobody supports my efforts in any form across the country. The show was good, hopefully? I may never hear the reality of that one.

Taylor Momsen's voice was even more haunting live, to a point where it was almost hypnotic. You definitely get more impact from their live performances; it seemed to have a lot more soul behind it than their studio work.

We had a running joke that it was Elvis Presley and Slash on the guitars (which it was not...obviously). Their performance was pristine and succinct.

Crowd interaction was relatively null at the start but sometimes that's a good thing. Take Billy Joel, for instance (whom I love), who talks waaay too much between each song. There was a few "What's up, Bristol?"s. Throughout most of the performance, Taylor kept her hair over her face, which was a bit of a shame because you want to be able to see your performers whilst they perform, particularly beautiful ones, such as Taylor.

I'm so glad I went; I've been wanting to see them for years and it was DEFINATELY satisfactory! I also took a friend for her (belated) 18th birthday present and at one point she exclaims "I'm having such a good time, I nearly pissed myself!".

All in all, a very good night in a great, nice-sized venue.

Taylor Momsen is an entertainer in all the right ways. From the moment she started, she took control of the energy, of the whole show. She acknowledges the crowd repeatedly, making it not just any show by just a band. She takes a backstage when the time is right, and she goes up front when the time is right, timing wise, it was spectacular.

The music the band performed, coupled with Taylor's energy and command of the stage made every song performed, for the lack of a better word, magical. So much so that it leaves the audience (namely me, at least) wanting more of the live session of their songs, whereas studio cuts just don't seem the same after a live show by the Pretty Reckless.

I'd recommend The Pretty Reckless live to anyone out there wondering.

I've seen them 3 times now and they are always awesome. I just saw them with Nickelback and I think TPR got screwed by the organizers of the event. They were forced to up tempo their songs so they could get done with their set in 45 minutes! A band of their quality should not get fucked like that! Nickelback put on a great show as well and I don't fault them for the idiot organizers screw up. I have been listening to TPR since they started and know every song they have and how it's geared and I think they should can their agent if he ever sets them up with something like this again! TPR is a high quality band and should be headlining not the warm up band! Jus' sayin'!

I went to their concert in Utrecht. And this is by far the best concert I've been to. The set list was great, because there were songs of every album, which made it worth the 2,5 years I waited to go to their concert. And can we talk about Taylors voice?! Omg it sounds so good live, very raw and just like you are listening to the album on your phone or whateve. And lets not forget the amazing guitar riffs, god!!

The opening act did also great! I hope to see more of them. Too bad I didn't take a photo because I would lose my spot in the crowd. But yeah, you guys should definitely go to their concert!!

sarlobr00’s profile image

Solid opening acts. Each better than the next. Pretty Reckless were solid. Taylor's voice was good and the band as a whole played spirited versions of the recordings. Her voice was washed away by the instruments sometimes though. She asa lead needs to OWN her role as leader. She spends a lot of time with her head down. ROCK OUT sister. Work the crowd with the song better. Pointing the mic at the crowd isn't enough. LOOK like you are having fun. Its rock and roll and your stage.

brett-grossmann’s profile image

Good show! TPR had a very tight set with good pacing and song choices. They didn't hit all the favorites, but if they had they wouldn't have space for the new album stuff they're touring in support of. Short break before the single song encore, but that may have been H.O.B./ Disney policy rather than band preference. Of course this is a blitz tour schedule for them, so who knows.

Bottom line: This was my first time seeing TPR live, but it won't be the last.

THE PRETTY RECKLESS To Support AC/DC On Spring/Summer 2024 European Tour

THE PRETTY RECKLESS has been announced as the support act on AC/DC 's upcoming European spring/summer 2024 tour.

The Taylor Momsen -fronted group, which released its most recent album "Death By Rock And Roll" in 2021, will join the legendary band on their run of stadium shows this spring summer, starting on May 17 in Gelsenkirchen, Germany and ending on August 17 in Dublin, Ireland.

A decade ago, Momsen told the Cleveland Scene that AC/DC was one of her early influences, saying: "I grew up with my dad's record collection. THE BEATLES were his favorite band. They're the reason why I wanted to be in a band and the reason I started writing songs and the reason I picked up a guitar. Everything. Then it was LED ZEPPELIN , THE WHO , AC/DC , PINK FLOYD , Bob Dylan and Neil Young and I got into the '90s stuff with SOUNDGARDEN and NIRVANA and ALICE IN CHAINS , and I could just keep listing bands. OASIS , THE DOORS . I'm wearing a SOUNDGARDEN shirt right now. It's always been in my blood. It's the first thing I ever heard."

In 2015, Taylor told MarcAndrew.ca about AC/DC : "Amazing songwriting, amazing band. Have you ever seen a bad AC/DC performance? There isn't one. Every show, balls to the wall. You can't duplicate them."

THE PRETTY RECKLESS recently entered the studio to begin recording its fifth album. The band is once again working with Jonathan Wyman , who co-produced "Death By Rock And Roll" .

In a May 2023 interview with Ronni Hunter of the 99.7 The Blitz radio station, Momsen revealed that she and her THE PRETTY RECKLESS bandmates had commenced work on the follow-up to "Death By Rock And Roll" .

In November 2022, THE PRETTY RECKLESS released a new collection of music, "Other Worlds" , via Fearless Records . The effort saw the group delivering its first proper acoustic recordings, unexpected covers and other reimaginings.

"Death By Rock And Roll" was made available in February 2021 via Fearless Records in the U.S. and Century Media Records in the rest of the world.

Upon release, "Death By Rock And Roll" topped multiple sales charts — including Billboard 's Top Albums, Rock, Hard Music, and Digital charts. The record also yielded three back-to-back No. 1 singles — "Death By Rock And Roll" , "And So It Went" (featuring Tom Morello of RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE ) and "Only Love Can Save Me Now" (featuring Kim Thayil and Matt Cameron of SOUNDGARDEN ). The band has tallied seven No. 1 singles at the rock format throughout its career.

"Death By Rock And Roll" was THE PRETTY RECKLESS 's first album to be made without longtime producer Kato Khandwala , who died in April 2018 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

THE PRETTY RECKLESS formed in 2009 and consists of Momsen , guitarist Ben Phillips , bassist Mark Damon and drummer Jamie Perkins .

AC/DC recently added three shows to the group's first tour dates in eight years.

The legendary band's lineup for the "Power Up" European tour will consist of singer Brian Johnson , guitarists Angus and Stevie Young , drummer Matt Laug and the latest addition to the group's touring lineup, bassist Chris Chaney .

AC/DC 's first show in seven years took place on October 7, 2023 at the Power Trip festival in Indio, California.

AC/DC recruited Laug to perform with the band at the three-day event.

AC/DC announce POWER UP European tour support, The Pretty Reckless

AC/DC have confirmed that they’ll be joined by The Pretty Reckless on all 24 dates of their highly-anticipated POWER UP European tour this summer.

AC/DC announce POWER UP European tour support, The Pretty Reckless

Exciting news! The Pretty Reckless will be back in Europe and the UK this summer, following their 2022 Death By Rock And Roll headline tour.

The New York rock titans – vocalist and guitarist Taylor Momsen, guitarist Ben Phillips, bassist Mark Damon and drummer Jamie Perkins – will be crossing the pond in order to support none other than AC/DC on the band’s highly-anticipated POWER UP run. They’ll be direct support on all 24 dates of the tour, from the opening night at Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen, Germany on May 17, to the final gig in Dublin, Ireland at Croke Park on August 17.

The news arrives shortly after The Pretty Reckless celebrated the 10th anniversary of their iconic album Going To Hell earlier this month. Speaking with Spin , Taylor reflected that the record “changed our lives. Even though we maybe didn’t see it at the time, we certainly are feeling the effects of it to this day. First, it made us double down on our ethics. It gave us the confidence to go, ‘We’re doing the right thing by doing it this way,’ and continued us on the path that we’re still on.”

THE PRETTY RECKLESS

DEATH BY ROCK AND ROLL TOUR 2022 Support: The Cruel Knives

Foto: WME Agency

Following an extensive US tour this spring, New York City’s The Pretty Reckless have today announced a major UK and Europe tour this autumn. The outing marks Taylor Momsen’s (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Ben Phillips (lead guitar, backing vocals), Mark Damon (bass), and Jamie Perkins (drums) first run of dates since 2016–2017’s “Who You Selling For Tour”. The Pretty Reckless‘ unbelievable journey has quietly brought them from sweaty small gigs to successive number one hits, platinum plaques, and some of the biggest stages in the world—unprecedented for a rock act this century. The Pretty Reckless formed in New York City during 2008, and the musicians and late producer Kato Khandwala initially made waves with their 2010 debut Light Me Up. After countless gigs, the band returned with “Going To Hell” in 2014. Not only did the record crash the Top 5 of the Billboard Top 200, but it also ignited three #1 hits — the Platinum-certified „Heaven Knows“ (the biggest rock song of 2014), „Fucked Up World,“ and „Follow Me Down“ — a feat that had not been accomplished by a female-fronted group since The Pretenders in 1984. Meanwhile, their third offering, “Who You Selling For”, saw them return to #1 on the Mainstream Rock Songs Chart with „Take Me Down“, which cemented them as „the first band to send its first four singles to #1 on the chart“, according to Billboard. Praise followed from Vogue, Nylon, and more, as the quartet lit up television shows such as Letterman and Conan. With over half-a-billion streams, they headlined countless sold out shows and toured with Guns N‘ Roses, Soundgarden, and many other heavy hitters. Fourth album “Death By Rock And Roll” was released in February 2021 via Fearless Records in the US and Century Media for the rest of the world. Upon release, the record topped multiple sales charts — including Billboard’s Top Albums, Rock, Hard Music, and Digital Charts. The record also yielded several No. 1 singles — „Death By Rock And Roll“, „And So It Went“ (Feat. Tom Morello), and „Only Love Can Save Me Now“ (Feat. Matt Cameron + Kim Thayil) all topped the charts. The Pretty Reckless are also the first female-fronted band to have back-to-back No. 1 singles at the active rock format and they are the first female-fronted act to have seven No. 1 singles on the Billboard Rock Radio Chart, a feat achieved with “Only Love Can Save Me Now“. The album was universally praised by PEOPLE, V, The TODAY Show, The Daily Beast, Hypebae, SPIN, Rolling Stone, Bustle, Women’s Wear Daily, Loudwire, and more. 2021 saw them return with their lauded fourth studio album, “Death by Rock and Roll” and they sound more alive than ever… Tickets for The Pretty Reckless Death By Rock And Roll Tour 2022 UK & Europe go on sale 10am local time Thursday 31 March via

AC/DC recently dropped the news on their official X account. They put up a poster of their first European tour in eight years and wrote:

“The Pretty Reckless will be supporting AC/DC on their European tour.”

The Pretty Reckless is gearing up to open for AC/DC on 21 upcoming ‘Power Up’ tour dates. They’re also working on a new album called ‘Other Worlds.’ It’s waiting to come out this year.

The band’s latest trek, the Death by Rock and Roll Tour, was with Shinedown and Halestorm in 2022.

Touring With A New Member

AC/DC is hitting the road also with a new bass player. They shared the news about the tour dates and the new bassist back in February.

Chris Chaney of Jane’s Addiction is stepping in for Cliff Williams, who retired in 2016. The band announced last month:

“We are thrilled to finally announce the ‘POWER UP’ European Tour. Angus, Brian, Stevie, and Matt will be joined by Chris Chaney to carry the torch for Cliff. The tour will see us play shows across Germany, Italy, Spain, The Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, England, Slovakia, Belgium, France & Ireland this Summer. We can’t wait to see you all out there.”

The Trek And The Latest Album

The tour will kick off on May 17 at Veltins Arena in Germany and wraps up on August 17 in Dublin, Ireland. AC/DC will play to support their 2020 album ‘Power Up.’

The group recorded the record between 2018 and 2019. But just as they were ready to release it, the COVID-19 pandemic hit and stopped all live music.

CONCERT REVIEW: The Pretty Reckless Play First European Show In 5 Years

It has been a long while since The Pretty Reckless played shows in Europe, but we are so grateful to have seen them live on their first European show in 5 years! With the release of their 2021 album Death By Rock and Roll , which we i nterviewed Taylor Momsen about , and their brand new album filled with remixes, acoustic renditions and covers Other Worlds , there are plenty of reasons for the band to do a trek through Europe. The first stop on this tour? A sold-out Poppodium 013 eager for their return!

We saw The Pretty Reckless for the first time many years ago, as they opened for Fall Out Boy in Amsterdam . Back then, they were busy doing promo for their second album and their setlist consisted mostly of their first album with some new singles. Fast forward 8 years and The Pretty Reckless are now touring their fourth album, playing sold-out shows left and right on their own. Since the release of the band’s third album Who You Selling For, the band have taken on a more mature sound, and this is reflected very well in their live show. Back in 2014, Taylor Momsen did not seem overly comfortable up on that stage (if memory serves me), but on this tour, she is as comfortable as an artist can be. Relaxing chitchat with the audience, making jokes, it was an absolute treat to see Momsen woe the audience the way she did. Musically, The Pretty Reckless have been with the same line-up since the very beginning, so needless to say that the musicians work very well together. They play these songs like second nature.

Naturally, the band’s latest album Death By Rock and Roll was heavily featured on the setlist, just like the first and second album. Unfortunately, the third album Who You Selling For was only showcased in one song, the main single of the album: Take Me Down . The Pretty Reckless first did an extensive trek through the United Kingdom before coming down to mainland Europe, during which they repeatedly got the question why Just Tonight was surprisingly absent on the setlist, after which the decision was made to play Just Tonight on the remainder of this tour after all. This decision was met with great jubilance from the Dutch audience. After playing a total of 13 songs, the band briefly submerged from the podium to then come back for the encore. It’s a well-known phenomena by now and in a recent internet post hilariously referred to as peekaboo for adults. The Pretty Reckless’ version of peekaboo for adults was an extended version of their hit single Fucked Up World, with a lengthy drum solo in the middle. Curious to see what the show looked like? Check out the gallery below and let us know if you are going to any of the upcoming The Pretty Reckless shows!

“We are thrilled to finally announce the Power Up European Tour,” the band shared on X , formerly Twitter.

“Angus (Young), Brian (Johnson), Stevie (Young), and Matt (Laug) will be joined by (former Jane’s Addiction bassist) Chris Chaney to carry the torch for Cliff (Williams).”

At the time of publication, prices start at $103 USD before fees on Vivid Seats.

Other shows have tickets starting anywhere from $104 to $529 before fees.

AC/DC new music

Way back in November 2020, AC/DC dropped “POWER UP.”

Their 17th studio album — comprised of 12 raucous tracks — fits right in with the band’s earlier output.

Rockin’ bangers like “Realize,” “Shot In The Dark” and “Wild Reputation” are on par with anthems like “Dirt Deeds Done Dirt Cheap” and “T.N.T.”

This is truly a “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” kind of record.

If you want to have your face melted off by the Aussie rockers once again, you can find “POWER UP” here.

AC/DC band members

According to the band’s statement on social media, here’s who you’ll see onstage — maybe even in their trademark schoolboy uniforms — should you catch them live in Europe.

Angus Young lead guitar, occasional backing vocals (1973–present) Brian Johnson lead vocals (1980–2016, 2018–present) Stevie Young rhythm guitar, backing vocals (2014–present; touring 1988) Matt Laug drums (2023–present) Chris Chaney bass guitar (2024–present)

The Pretty Reckless

At all shows, AC/DC will be joined by frontwoman Taylor Momsen’s band.

Formed in 2009, the hard rockin’ group is known for megahits like “Heaven Knows” and “Make Me Wanna Die.”

If you want to hear them for yourself, you can find The Pretty Reckless’ complete discography here.

Madonna Prepping For Biggest Show Ever on Copacabana Beach to Cap Celebration Tour

Madonna is closing out her career-spanning global Celebration Tour in the splashiest way possible. On Monday (March 25), the singer announced that she will play her biggest show to date on May 4th on iconic Copacabana Beach in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

The gig will be free of charge to Madonna's fans as a thank you to all the supporters who came out to celebrate her four decades of hit-making on the tour. Sponsored by Itaú Apresenta, the concert will mark Madonna's first show in Brazil since 2012, with entrance available to fans on a first come first serve basis on the day of the event.

With the stage slated to sit in front of the Belmond Copacabana Palace Hotel, the one-off concert will be broadcast live on TV Globo.

The Celebration tour was announced in Jan. 2023 with an all-star promo video and then subsequently put on hold when the singer was rushed to a hospital in June of that year with a " serious bacterial infection ." The hospitalization resulted in the tour being pushed back from July to October, with the North American dates - which were originally slated to kick off the run on July 15 in Vancouver - delayed until this year.

Since launching in London in October, the Celebration tour has hit 14 countries and is currently winding its way through the final U.S. dates, including a show at American Airlines Arena in Dallas Monday night, followed by gigs in Houston, Atlanta, Tampa, Miami and Austin before a run to Mexico City for a five-night late April run at the Palacio De Los Deportes.

The famed Copacabana Beach has been the setting for a number of huge concerts in the past, including a 1994 New Year's Eve show by Rod Stewart which drew nearly 4.5 million fans and a Rolling Stones show in 2006 that packed 1.5 million onto the beach.
