Thirty Seconds to Mars is an alternative rock band from Los Angeles, California, US. The band is just a three piece consisting of the Leto brothers and Tomo Milicevic, but their sound is epic for such a small band.
Although Thirty Seconds to Mars is generally described as an alternative rock band, their music is inspired by all styles of music and contains elements of experimental music as well as themes that are often philosophical. Their large atmospheric sound that the band creates often garners comparison to musical acts such as The Cure, Pink Floyd and U2.
Jared Leto and his brother Shannon Leto decided on the name Thirty Seconds to Mars because they wanted the name of the band to describe the sound of their music, which they labeled as urgent and cinematic. The brothers formed the band in 1998 and began performing material in small clubs that Jared Leto had written. After playing small gigs and writing a bunch of material, the band finally released their self-titled debut album in 2002 under Virgin Records.
The band’s debut was a concept album that focused on the theme of self-determination and followed the style of progressive metal and space rock. The album featured the consistent use of electronics and had an overall aggressive tone, which sounded somewhere between Tool and Rush.
Thirty Seconds to Mars really broke into the mainstream with the release of their 2005 album “A Beautiful Lie”. On this album Jared Leto took a more sincere and emotional approach to songwriting making the album a more personal one. The album clearly conveys Jared Leto exerting his voice in a raw manner, which gives the album a more personal touch. The album has gone on to reach gold and platinum status in several countries and contains a myriad of hit songs. Some of the most famous songs on the album include “Attack”, “A Beautiful Lie”, “The Kill”, and “From Yesterday”.
Thirty Seconds to Mars always makes sure they are approaching things in the most creative way when they are making music. Their third album “This Is War” features 2,000 different album covers that consist of the best shots that fans took of themselves. The band has always taken priority in their fans and at some of their shows they have even let fans provide backing vocals and percussion to their music.
Thirty Seconds to Mars have also established themselves as one of the hardest working artists in the business when it comes to touring. In 2011 the band was inducted into the Guinness World Records for performing the most live shows for a single album cycle.
When Jared Leto is not working hard at writing music and performing it across the world, he is usually acting in films. His film work has proven to be just as successful as his music, having already won an Oscar for his work in “Dallas Buyers Club”.
Thirty Seconds to Mars is consistently selling out shows wherever they tour and have had great success in their album sales having already sold over 15 million albums. Jared Leto is a natural born performer that has mastered showmanship both on the screen and on the stage when he is performing high energy shows with his intense band.
Live reviews
Seeing Thirty Seconds To Mars for the first time yesterday was a blast! Thanks to people I knew, I was able to get the full experience! The check in time was ideal because of the length of the meet and greet as well as soundcheck over running slightly. (Which was amazing) The meet and greet felt not too rushed but quick. Only because the time flew by. I’d say we had roughly an hour and a bit with them at the meet and greet. The Q&A was longer than most other concerts and they (Jared and Shannon) also treated us with Pizza!! The photo with the band was very quick but worth it. The hug I got from Shannon was amazing and Jared made a really nice remark to me by saying “Awwww how sweet!” After everyone’s photos were taken, I asked Reni (the head co-ordinator) if I could take a photo with Jamie (one of the people who works with MARS) and she alloud me to go over. Everyone is so nice. The meet and greet was over and the people who had soundcheck was told to go back to the seats where we sat for the M&G. After 5-10 mins they called us over. Managed to get a few cheeky photos and videos during soundcheck and luckily didn’t get caught as they weren’t aloud. I waved at Stevie and he gave me a lovely smile and thumbs up. Soundcheck over ran which was pretty good. Once soundcheck finished, we were given an hour to go get food, go to the toilet and buy merch (which was all optional). Reni told us where to meet and we did. The concert was supposed to start at 8:00pm but MARS were “fashionably late” and didn’t start the show until 9:00pm. All was amazing! Reni asked me and a few others to help throw the balloons into the crowed and warned us that we will get hit by them. And she was right, we did. Jared made us all have a 2 hour cardio work out as there were a lot of jumping involved. When Do or Die was played, Jared told everyone to get on each others shoulders. Even though I was side stage, I climbed onto my cousins shoulders. The downside was that the security told us to get down (probably for health and safety. After a few more songs, one of their new songs called Rider was played, at the end of the song, it looked as if the show has ended. I’d say quite a few hundred people left and a few mins later they started performing again. Loved how they played the full band version of The Kill but sad that Tomo wasn’t there so it didn’t make it all feel right. Finally it came to the last song, Closer to the Edge. Me and the few others who had the Up in The Air package were brought on stage and then the others brought from the crowed joined. It was really really fun. An adult decided to push through and force me to the back which I found really rude considering I was shorter then her and was there first. Another plus was that I watched back the live stream and saw me on there! If you asked other people, their experience would be different. In all honesty, how they act depends on what city they are in and how they are feeling. I’d totally recommend going to a MARS concert. There isn’t anything like it! It’s unique, engaging and down right awesome! It is definitely worth the £2000 in my opinion.

I grew up listening to music, but 30 Seconds To Mars are the reason I love live music, and why I now jump at the chance to go to any concert. Going to a MARS show is, for me, the community, and the spirituality that I think so many other people have found in religion.
To date, I've been to 34 30STM gigs since 2006, and I've loved every single one. Right from the off, the Echelon, the super hardcore community of fans (you can usually count on at least half of the first 50 people in line at any gig have at least one MARS related tattoo and/or are not from the state/province/country the band in playing in), were what made me aware how special it was to be a part of a live show. I was welcomed immediately as part of the family, because I loved the music, and that was all the criteria needed.
And speaking of being a part of a live show... I've NEVER met another band, never gone to another artist's show, where the crowd is encouraged to participate in everything. If you go to a show, and sing along, and dance crazy, and/or wear a funny hat/costume/face paint, you're pretty much guaranteed to get pulled on stage to dance with the band for the last song, if not before. Expect to go crazy, to jump a LOT, so wear comfortable shoes! there will be crowdsurfers, there may be a mosh pit, and some of the nicest people you will ever meet in your life (I'm still friends with almost all of the people I met at my first show, and every show subsequently feels like a family reunion).
Nowadays I am just as excited to see all my friends I only see at shows, as I am to rock out and sing along to my favorite songs, and enjoy such a high spirited performance for at least 2 hours.
The setlists are never the same, there's gonna be some great acoustic tunes in the middle, and at least one song that'll make you want to cry, and one that'll make you remember how utterly amazing it is to be alive.
The venues I've seen 30STM in, have all been pretty small (under 5000), and that is what you can expect in North America, whereas the rest of the world are usually pretty huge stadiums, and the expansiveness of their music, from what I have seen, it doesn't matter the size of the venue.
My most memorable gigs to date have been their Guinness World Record breaking show in NYC in 2011, and the original Church shows, at St Peter's Church, in NYC, where it was all acoustic awesome for 250 people.
Also, lots of bands have overpriced VIP, but Mars is the only one I consider worth it, because not only to you get to meet them, but you get to dance on stage with them, for the entire show.
MARS' music makes me feel better about life, and has helped me (and so many others I know) reach for their dreams.
Provehito in Altum!
I saw Thirty Seconds to Mars yesterday at the This is Tomorrow Festival Newcastle Spillers Wilf.
The band had two supporting acts Don Broco whom I predict will be really big in future and the cute band the Marmozets who were interesting to watch live.
After those two taste bud wetting starters on to the delicious main course of Thirty Seconds to Mars; who played a mix of old material like Do or Die complete with Union Jack flag wave and City of Angles as well as a sprinkle of new material from their critic splitting fifth studio album America like Dangerous Night and the inspired Walk on Water.
Overall the band played a great set but some of their Thirty Seconds to Mars elements where missing like the fan favourite ballons due to the festival being outside. Jared and Shannon have just come back to this year Monolith Tour 2018 after taking a 2-week break.
Jared's voice was all stronger for being rested and Shannon easily got back into his drumming grove.
The band played a set of 11 songs overall. The festival was bussing and everyone had a good time. Jared and Shannon included a lot of audience participation in their show and allowed some members of the crowd on stage with them.
By the time the confetti cannons went off to the closing song 'Closer to the Edge', the crowd was roaring for the more and the band was pumped.
All in all it was great show; which allowed new talent to shine and Thirty Seconds to Mars to really get into a lush pumping grove just singing!
Good show overall. A few problems tho. We paid a lot of money for front row and were irritated Jared "invited" everybody to come down to the front, shoving us back against our seats. We were packed in like sardines with no way to exit. It was unbearably hot anyway (91 degrees and 60% humidity) and I thought I was going to faint. Thank God security saw the situation was becoming dangerous and starting telling people to go back to their own seats. Jared stupidly stopped in mid-song and started berating security personnel for disrupting his show! I know he wants to be the cool anti-hero and all but he needs to think about the safety of his fans before he speaks. If it had gone on there would have been some serious medical emergencies. Besides that, Jared is an entertaining performer even though the show is very predictable from night to night. Had the feel of Jared going through the motions like a finely oiled machine. No encores (as usual). Not as much fan interaction as there used to be back in the day. Jared didn't go into the audience on this night and Shannon seemed painfully uncomfortable when he had to sing. The stage looks really empty with just the two band members left. Three out of five stars. Not one of their better shows. May be time for this band to call it a day. They had a good run.
I went to the concert full of expectations and hopes that it will be great as their concert 3 or 4 years ago in Prague with A Beautiful Lie album because since then the concerts are worse and worse every year. Year after Jared couldnt even sing after the hundreds of shows they did, so he just held his microphone to the crowd or had people on stage and talked to them for like half an hour, next year they did Cirque du Soleil show, just awful. Unfortunately it was huge disappointment again:( They had no Shannon, and instead of finding a replacement for the shows without Shannon, they had drums on playback. It was like going to a concert of classical music where there are no violins. Another disappointment was that Jared didnt even mention Shannon, or any apology for not having live drums. They should realize that some people are going to their concerts because of their music, not because of Jared's looks. If you want to go their concert, definitely wait until Shannon joins them, nothing beats the sound of live drums. Every year I go to their concert hoping ..... maybe next year it will be great again :)
Thirty Seconds to Mars is one of the best bands I've ever seen live! It was an amazing concert! I can't even explain the energy I felt by the second they got on stage. They really take care of the fact that everyone should be having fun and be part of the concert. They want fans to be able to sing they most famous songs with them. It's like you are in a living room at your home with them and a couple of friends and you're all singing around like it's a camping or something like that. I mean, they actually asked the crowd which song we wanted to hear. Amazing! I went with my friend, who likes the band but it's not a fan at all, and she came out of the stadium completely in love with them. I can tell she definitely had fun. She was jumping around and singing. It was a beautiful experience. I think that if you ever get the chance to see them live, whether at a concert o festival, you should totally go. It's totally worth it and I'm telling you, you'll have lots of fun and will forget about everything for about two hours.
I was pretty disappointed actually! I came specifically to see them and felt underwhelmed by their performance. The sound quality was not good - referring to both the mics and the instruments. Given that most people were there for Muse, when they put their mic up to the crowd, there was a lot of silence, as opposed to a crowd singing in harmony. I would have preferred if they just sang and thrashed, like they know how. In that regard, before a few of their songs, they would rehearse crowd participation parts of the song, as if they were concerned that the crowd did not know what was coming. I thought this was kind of annoying. Also, "The Kill" as an acoustic song does not work.
On the other hand, I had no expectations of Muse and was blown away in the best possible way. The smashed it. Good for them.
Thirty seconds to mars are amazing first time ever to a concert ,would definitely go back but not the seating as the screen was hard to see and mostly covered by hanging lights .All in all was an amazing night that my cousin and I will never forget,Actually looking at the Birmingham tickets thinking of going again .Was very impressed by Jared Leto he put a lot into his performance and made the audience fell appreciated e.g wearing tartan and kilt flying the Scottish flag about the stage he’s an amazing performer and what a voice Shannon on the drums was amazing and also interacted with the audience.Great respect for the band ,just wish they had been able to have more dates in Scotland I have to keep pinching myself I was really there I’m so privileged to have been there Thankyou
Second time I've seen them live with the first time being 5yrs ago, and have to say last night was extremely disappointing, the stage set up was awful and looked lost in the middle of the floor as did the only two band members up there in Jared and Shannon. I pay to see the band not half of them.they released 20 or more huge balloons that at least brought some excitement to the show but when everyone directed them at the stage you couldn't see a thing!!!! Twice now they've not played one of the biggest hits that made them in "from yesterday" very very disappointing. All in all very very poor show which having no support act to warm everyone up and get ppl in the mood didn't help one bit, i can safely say i won't be paying to see them again.
Thirty Seconds to Mars were incredible to see live and I'm really happy that I finally go to see them, because they're my favourite band. Jared was an amazing performer, as always, and brought life to the crowd and stage. I was disappointed, however, because Shannon was not there and the drums were a playback on the speakers. This was really disappointing because I love seeing Shannon play and feel like the stage was empty without him. Considering how much Jared cares for his fans, it should be expected that Shannon does the same. The band should feel at least slightly obligated to satisfy the fans. Nevertheless, based on my concert experience, Thirty Seconds to Mars put on a show that can't be missed.

About thirty seconds to mars.
Thirty Seconds to Mars (commonly stylized as 30 Seconds to Mars) is an American rock band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1998. The band consists of Jared Leto (lead vocals, guitar, bass, keyboards), Shannon Leto (drums, percussion) and Tomo Miličević (lead guitar, bass, violin, keyboards, other instruments). The band's debut album, 30 Seconds to Mars (2002), was produced by Bob Ezrin and released to positive reviews but only to limited commercial success. The band achieved worldwide fame with the release of their second album A Beautiful Lie (2005), which received multiple certifications all over the world, including platinum in the United States. Their next release, This Is War (2009), showed a dramatic evolution in the band's musical style, as they incorporated experimental music as well as eclectic influences. The recording process of the album was marked by a legal dispute with record label EMI that eventually became the subject of the documentary film Artifact (2012). Thirty Seconds to Mars then moved to Universal Music and released the fourth album, Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams (2013), to critical and commercial success. As of September 2014, the band had sold over 15 million albums worldwide. Thirty Seconds to Mars has consistently enjoyed sold out tours and numerous headlining festival slots. The band is noted for its energetic live performances and for fusing many music genres. They have been compared to the sounds of bands such as Pink Floyd, The Cure, Tool, and U2, for their philosophical and spiritual lyrics, concept albums and their use of experimental music. Thirty Seconds to Mars has received several awards and accolades throughout their career, including a Guinness World Record, and has been included in the Kerrang! list of best artists of the 2000s.

THIRTY SECONDS TO MARS Announces ‘Seasons 2024 World Tour’
Go big or go home! Oscar-winning actor Jared Leto announced Thirty Seconds to Mars ’ monumental Seasons 2024 World Tour —while climbing from the Empire State Building in New York City. The extensive run across Latin America, Europe, North America, Australia, and New Zealand marks the band’s first headline tour in over 5 years. Full details on tour dates and ticketing information can be found below.
Leto, the band’s frontman, accomplished a historic feat as he completed the first ever climb of the Empire State Building. Having always been fascinated with the incredible landmark since he was a child, he said “The building is a testament of all the things that can be done in the world if we put our minds to it, which is largely the inspiration behind our most recent album, It’s The End Of The World But It’s A Beautiful Day.” As an avid climber, the Empire State Building and the tour announcement carry the sentiment that anything is possible if we try.
The Empire State Building was recently rated the #1 attraction in the U.S. by Tripadvisor for the second consecutive year after a recent $165 million renovation of its legendary iconic Observatory.
The tour kicks off in Latin America with festival performances at Lollapalooza Chile, Argentina and Brazil along with Estéreo Picnic in Colombia and Tecate Pa’l Norte Festival in Mexico. The band then arrives in Europe for 28 shows in the UK, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Austria, France, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. The show then travels to North America where Mars will be joined by AFI along with support from Poppy and KennyHoopla across the 24 shows in major arenas and amphitheaters. Finally, the tour will conclude in Australia and New Zealand with four arena shows.
Multi-platinum selling artist Thirty Seconds to Mars, comprised of brothers Jared and Shannon Leto, makes a triumphant return with their sixth studio album, It’s The End Of The World But It’s A Beautiful Day , released September 15th via Concord Records . The album heralds a new era for the band, one that not only explores the darker sides of the human experience but the hope as well, an arresting reminder that even in the face of seemingly impossible obstacles, there is still beauty to be found in the world. Lead single, “Stuck” officially debuted at #1 on the Alternative radio chart and scored a top 10 hit in Italy, marking the fastest chart climb of the band’s career. Sitting in the top three of the German airplay charts, the tour’s namesake and current single, “Seasons” asks if we can accept change as we move through the many different seasons of life.
