Your Coach Tour of Britain

Your escorted tour of Britain may take you to one or more of the four separate countries in the United Kingdom; England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Each country has its own unique cultures and traditions, as well as having very distinctive dialects and accents. London is the capital city of England and the United Kingdom and combines rich history with a world of contemporary design. This city is so vast you would need a few days to get the most out of it. The best way is with a hop-on hop-off double decker bus tour. See the Tower of London and Big Ben, the iconic bell of the famous clock which sits at the Palace of Westminster. Visit the boutiques that line the streets of Knightsbridge, browse the iconic Harrods store, or explore Portobello Road and Camden Market and pick up a bargain. Later, take in a show at London’s West End and revel in the bustling crowds jostling for a place in between all the restaurants, theatres, cinemas and nightclubs. Lastly, take an evening walk to Leicester Square with its vibrant atmosphere of revellers and street entertainers who light up the night sky. Enjoy a night ot two in your London hotel before joining your guided tour of Britain leaving next morning.

The Historical City of York

Another English gem that is soaked in fascinating history that you may visit on y our guided vacation by coach.  From the Vikings and Romans to the War of the Roses, this extraordinary place has it all. Evidence of medieval times is all around to see; especially The Shambles, a narrow medieval street overlooked by beautifully preserved shop buildings. The majestic York Minster is also not to be missed. Visit the National Railway Museum with its large array of vintage trains, and then enjoy a drink in one of Britain's oldest pubs -The Royal Oak, or most haunted - The Golden Fleece! Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland which offers plenty of wonderful and unique experiences. Enjoy the Edinburgh Military Tattoo on the esplanade of Edinburgh Castle in the summer month of August. Experience some live shows at the world famous Edinburgh arts festival and revel in the party atmosphere.

The Scottish Highlands, Wales and Ireland

On a UK coach holiday, these are a spectacle not to be missed. They will take your breath away as you drive through the many twisting roads and striking scenery. As Scotland's largest whisky region, grab a chance to visit a distillery such as the Glengoyne Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky Distillery. Cardiff is the capital city of Wales and is home to some impressive visitor attractions. Spend a day visiting Cardiff Castle and its exhibits, or immerse yourself in the arts at the Cardiff Bay Millennium Centre. Watch anything from West End musicals and contemporary dance to stand-up comedy and opera, the list is endless.  The Mermaid Quay also houses many wonderful bars and restaurants. The Giant’s Causeway can be found in Northern Ireland on the North Antrim coast and is famous for its unique polygonal basalt columns. Visit the Titanic Belfast, a museum and monument situated close to where the tragic RMS Titanic was built. For a bit more excitement, have a Game Of Thrones experience and join a tour where the award-winning phenomenon is filmed.

This was my second G Adventures tour and it proved to be as enjoyable as the first one, which was the main reason my wife and I booked it. The small size of the tour group and the variety of people made it all the better. The tour offered a good balance between structured visits of major attractions and free time to explore on our own. I would not hesitate to recommend a G Adventures tour to anyone seeking a guided travel experience in the company of other like-minded travelers.

7-Day Ireland to Island Small Group Tour of Ireland Tour

7-Day Ireland to Island Small Group Tour of Ireland

Last week my wife and I did the seven day Ireland to Island tour. It was amazing, and our guide Pat was awesome! We saw and did so many things during our adventure, there's no way we could have seen and done all that we did if we would have tried to plan a trip ourselves. All the details were taken care of. Pat ensured there was flexibility when it came to activities, meals, and nighttime activities. Plus, Pat had so much knowledge of the history and culture of Ireland, it was like we experienced a college-level course on those subjects over the course of our trip. We also had the privilege of having Jessica, a relatively new employee of Overland, join us on the tour. Her added perspective and fun personality were an unexpected bonus. We learned that Jessica plans personalized tours, so if you are looking for that instead of a small group tour you will be fortunate to work with Jessica to make that happen. You will not be disappointed if choose Overland Ireland!

Bonnie Scotland Tour

Bonnie Scotland

We had an amazing trip with our guide Andrew and driver Davie. Andrew shared the history of the places we visited and kept us entertained with his unique sense of humour. We enjoyed the beauty of the Scottish countryside dotted with sheep and the occasional “Hairy Coo”. Highlights were Culloden, Dunottar Castle, Palace of Scone and the evening of Scottish music and dance.

Best of Scotland (Summer, 7 Days) Tour

Best of Scotland (Summer, 7 Days)

The final day of our trip BHLD, we were asked to fill a questionnaire about our trip impressions. I glanced through it and I felt it was insufficient to express our feelings. I believe a 1-10 rating was not fair for this case. In my mind, if a travel director meets the complete itinerary, a 10 is a fair rating. In our case, we were lucky to have the most professional and dedicated tour director. Rose went beyond our expectations. She took note of every participant needs and wants. As a result, she made sure that they were met. One day for instance, Rose was up from 7 AM to at least 9 PM, to ensure everyone satisfaction and peace of mind. She also made sure to point all worthwhile aspect of our tour. We got away in love with a beautiful country. Not a single complaint from us or our other tour takers. Rose deserved a full 20 rating. I have no doubt she is the best travel director at Trafalgar. Wojciech is a real professional driver. We felt safe in even the narrowest roads I have ever seen. He kept the coach clean, the windows cleaner, and he always had a smile on his face. He also deserves a full 20 rating. Not everything in life is perfect. Most of the hotels we stayed in had more that one fault. The sales brochures stated that the hotels were first class. Sorry, they were not. I urge to make sure that future brochures indicate that the hotels you choose are among the best available choice given the locations where they are situated. Then, the complains will be more in line with expectations. Highlights of the trip were lunch with the Wood family, and the Highland farm experience. Overall we were very satisfied, but just wanted you to know what was exceptionally good, and not so good. Our aim in writing these comment where made to help you in keeping Trafalgar high standards. Thank you for a lovely time, German & Yolanda Acosta

The itenary was paced very well. It gave us the opportunity to see many sites without feeling overwhelming or rushed. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Destination Must-See's

UK ms1

A world in a city is a common way to describe the metropolis of London, the capital of England. A cultural melting pot of over 230 nationalities, London is the financial, political and cultural capital of the UK. It is booming with activity and bursting with sightseeing treasures. You’ll find historic highlights from the haunting Tower of London to the ornate Buckingham Palace and more modern attractions such as the world-famous Harrods department store and the towering London Eye.

UK ms2

The capital city and second most populous in Scotland, Edinburgh has been recognized for its historic and cultural attractions. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the UK after London. Great shopping, historic architecture and great Scottish whisky are just part of its allure. Its greatest draw is Edinburgh Castle. This sprawling medieval castle and fortress sits atop Castle Rock in the city center, dominating Edinburgh’s skyline.

UK ms3

Giant’s Causeway:

At the foot of the basalt cliffs on the coast of Northern Ireland’s County of Antrim lies the stunning Giant’s Causeway. Travelers flock to this UNESCO World Heritage site to experience the 40,000 massive dark columns rising from the sea. The natural phenomena has sparked legends of giants and magic, but its unique geology points to volcanic activity from over 50 million years ago. The Giant’s Causeway is a beautiful sight and the experience of a lifetime.

UK ms4

Cornwall, a region located on a peninsula in southwest England, is comprised of many different towns and villages that feature beautiful beaches and picturesque coastlines. Bordered by the Celtic Sea and the English Channel, one of its most popular towns is St. Ives. This seaside port town just north of Penzance on the coast of the Celtic Sea is known as the art center of West Cornwall and has a sub-tropical feel and beautiful beaches.

Destination Must-Do's

UK md3

England’s Lake District:

Lose yourself in the natural beauty of this mountainous region in northwest England dotted with tranquil lakes. One of the picturesque villages in the region is Grasmere, once home of and inspiration to the romantic poet William Wordsworth. Perhaps you will take a sail on one of the lakes and take in the peaceful backdrop of lush green mountains, serene shorelines and pristine calm waters dotted with tiny islands.

UK md2

Stonehenge:

Walk in the footsteps of so many before you when visiting prehistoric Stonehenge. This mysterious rock formation dates back to the Stone Age and remains one of the world’s most famous sites. Standing in the middle of the most dense complex of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments in England, Stonehenge is perhaps the most important prehistoric monument in England. The experience of seeing this timeless monument is not to be missed – it will surely be a highlight of your visit.

UK md1

This large, deep freshwater loch in the Scottish Highlands extends approximately 23 miles southwest of the city of Inverness. Loch Ness is best known for the alleged sightings of the Loch Ness monster. While Loch Ness is not the largest Scottish loch by surface area, it is the largest by volume, with its deepest point at 755 feet. Along the shore, you will find the ruins of Urquhart Castle. This once mighty site rests on the headwaters of Loch Ness and dates back as far as the 13th century.

UK md4

Prepare to step back in time in the English countryside. The Cotswolds are roughly 25 miles across and 90 miles long, stretching from Stratford-upon-Avon to Bath. The region is known for its small towns and villages with homes made from golden colored Cotswold stone and grass roofs that sit among lush greenery and rolling hills. Stratford-upon-Avon is perhaps its most famous town. Lying along the River Avon, it’s famed for being the birthplace of William Shakespeare, one of the world’s great playwrights. Be sure to make a trip to see the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.

Expert Advice

diana

Think “go to the right.” It is their natural flow of traffic even when it comes to walking. It is important to not only look both ways when crossing the street, but also when on an escalator, stand to the right. When walking down the street, stay alert and follow the flow – to the right.

UK e2

Expect to be offered tea, a lot. The British love their tea and not only during afternoon tea, any time for any reason. But you should know there is a “proper” way to drink it. The rules are – sit up straight, do not blow on it, take small sips with your pinky down, and put the cup on the saucer between sips. Now you are prepared to sip away.

UK e3

Bring a raincoat and umbrella, as it rains one out of three days in the UK. It does vary from region to region, but generally speaking, they are important items to have on hand at all times.

What to pack for England

People packing for a tour

With a high chance of experiencing four seasons in one day, an umbrella is a must when visiting England, both for rainy days and occasions when the sun beams down.

Digital maps

It's always good to have a backup of digital maps on standby when you're out exploring in your own time. Download them prior to your trip so you can reach them even when your phone is offline.

Travel adaptor

Though many hotels will have adaptors available for use, being prepared with your own will ensure you're always charged and ready to go.

A good book

With a seemingly infinite list of parks found in England, don't forget to pack a novel and immerse yourself in a good book should the occasion arise.

With days full of adventure and numerous souvenirs tempting your strolls, a day pack will ensure your hands always remain free. Split the weight across your back with a double strap bag for extra comfort.

Pack for sustainable travel

Consider your environmental impact when you next take a trip and go single-use-plastic-free by packing a reusable water bottle, a steel straw, your own shopping bags and toiletry bottles.

So Why Were Horses Running Loose Around London, Covered In Blood?

Several horses were seen running through central London on Wednesday morning, leaving the general public pretty mystified.

Unfortunately, four people ended up being injured and taken to hospital, and the police had to try and track down the animals before they ended up causing even more harm.

Here’s why the horses were on the loose – and why one was covered in blood.

Where did the horses come from?

The five escapees came from the Household Cavalry, which is made up of the two most senior regiments in the British Army – the Life Guards and Blues & Royals.

According to the Cavalry’s website, these soldiers “have acted as the monarch’s trusted guardians, as well as being the public face of the British Army both at home and abroad”.

A group of seven horses and six soldiers were out for their morning exercise in Hyde Park Barracks when the trouble began and four of the riders were thrown off their horses.

Five horses ended up escaping, having been spooked by building work.

Where did they go?

Moving away from Hyde Park Barracks, the horses ran through Belgrave Square – injuring two people – then went down Lower Belgrave Street.

Passers-by caught the first horse when it collided with a car on Buckingham Palace Road.

The remaining four horses continued running, with one hitting a tour bus.

Witnesses said one then crashed into a taxi outside Clermont Hotel and broke its windows – which is why it was covered in blood.

The blood was actually the animal’s own; according to a driver who spoke to LBC, the horse had cut itself when it went careening into his car.

The owner of a silver Mercedes-Benz people carrier, Faraz, said a white horse smashed into his windscreen when he was picking up a client outside Clermont Hotel near Victoria Station.

Four people were treated by ambulance workers in three separate incidents – Buckingham Palace Road, Belgrave Square and the junction between Chancery Lane and Fleet Street – triggered by the horses spread across just 10 minutes.

Were the horses captured?

All five were caught pretty quickly, although the horses had run pretty far in that time – two of them were found in Limehouse, five miles away from the origin of the incident.

Westminster Police posted on X (formerly Twitter): “We’re pleased to confirm that all of the horses have been accounted for. We are continuing to liaise with the Army.”

Coach service offers journeys across the UK for knockdown price of £2 each way

Hundreds of cut-price, sustainable intercity journeys are on special offer this week for trips across England, Scotland and Wales

A transport company is offering £2 tickets for coach trips across the UK to be taken up to May 12. With a £1 service fee, that means travellers planning journeys can book long-distance tickets from £3 on the FlixBus website or app.

In England there is a government-backed scheme capping local bus tickets at £2 until December 2024, but this offer opens up longer routes and also applies to journeys into and around Wales and Scotland, where the £2 cap doesn’t exist. So, if you fancy a trip through the blossoming valleys from Bristol to Swansea, or from Glasgow to Inverness via the Cairngorms, now is the time to book. The deal is available until Sunday 21 April.

The international travel tech company is celebrating three years of business in the UK. It runs in partnership with local coach companies using green, branded vehicles. Earlier this year FlixBus launched the first direct electric coach service between London Victoria station and Newport in south Wales two of around 75 UK destinations currently covered by the network.

FlixBus began as a German startup in 2013 and has grown exponentially since then to cover thousands of routes in more than 40 countries, entering the UK market in 2020. Last summer it launched the first ever regular routes from several UK cities, including Leeds and Cambridge, direct to Amsterdam. The buses aim to be cheap, sustainable, easy to book and comfortable, with free wifi and charging points on board.

The lowest-priced journeys include direct routes such as Manchester to Edinburgh, London to Bridgend, Bristol to Newcastle and hundreds more intercity connections. The whole FlixBus Scottish network is part of the £2 scheme with Inverness added as a new destination this month. In Scotland, National Entitlement Card and Young Scot cardholders can get free travel.

Andreas Schörling, managing director of FlixBus UK, said the network offers affordable tickets and “comfortable, modern vehicles” and is celebrating its third anniversary with “£2 travel around the vibrant cities and towns of the UK”. The company aims to “become the best-loved coach brand in the country”, he added, offering “reliable services to as many passengers as possible”.

DP World Tour boss insists no loophole needed for LIV stars to play Ryder Cup

tour bus in uk

DP World Tour chief executive Guy Kinnings insists Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton will not be exploiting a “loophole” to remain eligible for the Ryder Cup.

Rory McIlroy’s immediate reaction to Rahm joining LIV Golf in December was to call for the rules to be rewritten to ensure the two-time major champion could represent Europe at Bethpage in 2025.

McIlroy later admitted the rules did not need to be changed as Rahm and Hatton were eligible as long as they maintained their DP World Tour memberships by playing four regular events per season.

The pair will also earn points towards qualification through major championships, but face fines and suspensions for playing in LIV tournaments without the required “conflicting event” releases.

Jon Rahm

“It’s not a loophole because that’s the rules we’ve always had and those are the rules we are going to continue to apply,” Kinnings said.

“All suspensions will count and you have to serve them. And the guys who’ve analysed this in detail have said if they do it the right way, there is no reason why they can’t play in the Ryder Cup.

“We’re not going to change anything on that basis. Rules are rules and they apply for every member. We’re not in a position to be changing rules that we’ve had to go to court to defend.”

In April 2023, an arbitration panel ruled that the Tour had the right to sanction players for “serious breaches” of its code of behaviour, a case sparked by 12 players appealing against fines of £100,000 and suspension from the Scottish Open for playing LIV’s inaugural event in June 2022.

Guy Kinnings

Asked if such players were aware of how the tournament suspensions worked, Kinnings added: “I have no idea what they thought.

“To be perfectly honest, this isn’t new news because, as you know, I had an extremely thorough Ryder Cup captain and a brilliant assistant.

“For the last Ryder Cup they were analysing every player who was eligible and that was players on whatever Tour they were on.

“And had certain players played well enough, like Brooks [Koepka] did, then they could have been in the Ryder Cup team. As it is, they didn’t.”

Koepka, who finished second in the 2023 Masters and won the US PGA Championship the following month, slipped out of the automatic qualifying places in the final event but was given a wild card by United States captain Zach Johnson.

It is understood that the DP World Tour’s members handbook does not go into specifics of suspensions as they are assessed on a case by case basis, but that sanction letters sent to players do make it clear from which tournaments they will be suspended.
