“Kerala offers all on what you are looking for,” Mr. P.B. Nooh, Kerala Tourism Director at FITUR 2024

Thursday, February 15, 2024 Favorite

Kerala , often described as “God’s Own Country,” is a treasure trove of natural beauty, cultural richness, and sustainable tourism practices. In an exclusive interaction with Travel And Tour World, Mr. P.B. Nooh, the Director of Kerala Tourism , shares insightful details about what makes Kerala a unique destination in South India.

Kerala: Crown of South India

Nestled along the southwestern coast of India, Kerala is renowned for its 1000 kilometers of serene backwaters, pristine beaches, and lush landscapes. The state is home to several UNESCO heritage sites located near the Western Ghats Mountains, making it a haven for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike. “Kerala has everything,” Mr. P. B. Nooh proudly states, emphasizing the state’s diverse offerings that range from its wildlife and forests to its rich culture and delectable cuisine.

An Unforgettable Experience

A trip to Kerala promises an unforgettable experience with its scenic houseboat stays, traditional performances, and the chance to indulge in its unique culinary delights. The state’s commitment to responsible tourism and sustainability is evident in its strategies and practices that have garnered international recognition. “Last year, we received awards for responsible tourism at WTM London 2023,” Mr. Nooh highlights, showcasing Kerala’s leadership in fostering sustainable tourism initiatives.

Kerala promotes sustainability

One of Kerala’s key strategies for sustainability includes promoting no-plastic zones and advocating for green tourism. This approach not only preserves the state’s natural beauty but also ensures a healthy and eco-friendly environment for both residents and visitors. Furthermore, Kerala has been focusing on promoting destination weddings, leveraging its internationally acclaimed hotels and excellent infrastructure. With four international airports offering strong air connectivity, especially with the Middle East, Kerala stands out as an ideal location for celebrating special occasions amidst its breathtaking landscapes.

Promotion of MICE in Kerala

The promotion of MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism is another strategic area that Kerala is keen on developing. By offering a blend of modern facilities and natural beauty, Kerala is positioning itself as a preferred destination for corporate events and business meetings.

Kerala’s approach to tourism is a harmonious blend of preserving its natural and cultural heritage while embracing modernity and sustainability. Mr. P.B. Nooh’s insights not only reflect the state’s commitment to offering a memorable and responsible tourism experience but also invite travelers from around the world to explore the best of what Kerala has to offer.

With its enchanting backwaters, vibrant culture, and green initiatives, Kerala continues to shine as a jewel in India’s tourism crown, truly living up to its moniker as “God’s Own Country.”

Kerala Tourism: V R Krishna Teja appointed as the New Kerala Tourism Director

An IAS Officer of 2008 batch, Shri Bala Kiran was posted as Director of Tourism in 2017. His tenure saw Kerala Tourism scaling new heights and launch of novel products like Champions Boat League (CBL), which further consolidated Kerala Tourism as an international brand. He also played a key role in steering the tourism sector through grave crises like the devasting floods of 2018 and 19, and later nursing it back to health from the crippling blow dealt by COVID-19 pandemic.

Heli-tourism, wedding destination tag to up tourist arrivals: Kerala tourism director

 alt=

New Delhi: Kerala is offering various adventure tourism platforms and related events in the coming months, and it has emerged as the best responsible tourism destination, Kerala tourism director PB Nooh recently said at a session here to highlight tourism potential in the state.  Known for its scenic tourist spots, the state is also promoting heli-tourism in hill areas and showcasing it as a wedding destination to attract more tourists. "In the last few years, Kerala has emerged as the best responsible tourism destination. When we talk about responsible tourism, we mean it. We ensure that our travellers are responsible and we also make sure that whatever money is spent, part of it goes to our local communities for their betterment," he said.

Tourism is a major contributor to the Kerala economy and the state registered a record number of 159.69 lakh visitors from within the country during the January-September 2023 period. On Thursday, Nooh announced the launch of the heli-tourism initiative 'Sky Escapes' that will seek to develop tourism in hilly areas through helicopter services. He said the state government will work along with private players to promote heli-tourism. According to him, efforts are being made to promote Kerala as a budding destination for destination weddings as there are picturesque places as well as good air connectivity with international airports.

The state government is trying to empower and focus on the literary circuit as well as the biodiversity circuit, said Nooh. In this regard, various efforts are being taken, including creating museums and other attractions to increase the footfall of domestic travellers, he added. The International Paragliding Festival, International Surfing Festival, and mountain-terrain-biking are scheduled to be held in the state in March and April. (With PTI inputs)

Kerala, often referred to as "God's Own Country" due to its picturesque landscapes, is actively promoting heli-tourism in its hilly regions. Additionally, the state is positioning itself as a sought-after wedding destination as part of its endeavors to draw in more tourists.

"In the last few years, Kerala has emerged as the best responsible tourism destination. When we talk about responsible tourism, we actually mean it. Govt agencies also responsible for Varkala accident: Kerala Tourism director

The damaged floating bridge at the Papanasam beach in Varkala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Tourism director P B Nooh, set to file his report on the collapse of the floating bridge at the Papanasam beach in Varkala, has said that the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) and the Kerala Adventure Tourism Promotion Council cannot wash their hands of the incident. Tourism Minister P A Mohamed Riyas had said action will be taken on the basis of the findings of the director.

The report is expected to shed light on whether the firm that was operating the bridge committed any lapses while implementing safety measures. A source said the report also will come clear on the aspect of whether the operators had ignored any high-tide warning.

Nooh said the firm that is running the project on contract is not alone responsible for ensuring safety and the DTPC and Promotion Council also have a role in it.

The DTPC and the Promotion Council had earlier pinned the blame on the Andaman-based firm, which was operating the bridge. The mishap occurred on Saturday when visitors were walking on the bridge that was about 100m long, despite high-tide alerts from the National Institute of Ocean Technology.

Riyas answerable: Satheesan

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan said the tourism minister is answerable for the collapse of the bridge that was built just two months ago.

He alleged that numerous projects were being carried out in the Tourism Department by flouting norms and the opposition is scrutinising them.

“Those who created a din over the Palarivattom bridge should answer for what had happened in Varkala,” he said.

MP demands judicial inquiry

Attingal MP Adoor Prakash demanded a judicial inquiry on the alleged corruption in the running of the floating bridge. “The government should make it clear whether they had implemented the project to help a private agency,” he said.
