Why should you book a vacation package to Europe?
By booking packages, you can ensure that your itinerary includes your destination's major sights and experiences. Packages are also a great way to cut the cost of visiting Europe. With the right deal, you can combine luxury accommodation, access to the sights and a rental car, and have money left over to shop for souvenirs.
When should you book a vacation package to Europe?
Booking European packages is an excellent way to save money and make travel easy, and you can make even bigger savings by traveling at the right time of year.
In southern Europe, peak season lasts from around June to September, but cheaper shoulder season breaks in May or October can be almost as sunny. In the north, the peak season is shorter, so look for affordable packages in fall and spring. However, expect price spikes around Christmas and local events like Oktoberfest in Munich or Bastille Day in Paris (14 July).
Where should you stay in Europe during your vacation?
For any vacation type in europe:.
The Four Seasons Hotel George V is perfectly located for sightseers in Paris and is an Art Deco gem with gorgeous views of the Eiffel Tower. It's just an hour from Charles de Gaulle Airport, while a meet and greet service is available on request.
Located on the famous "Rambla", Hotel 1898 is one of the finest places to stay in Barcelona. Blessed with amazing city vistas from its terrace, and created from a renovated 19th century mansion, it is 500 meters from the Aerobus stop at Plaza Cataluña.
For family vacations in Europe:
The La Marquise Luxury Resort Complex on the Greek island of Rhodes is a fantastic family hotel with kids' facilities featuring games rooms, pools and multilingual support staff. It's all just 6 miles from Rhodes Airport.
Located on Italy's Amalfi Coast, the Hotel Poseidon in Castellammare has a spacious parking lot on-site, while recreation options like tennis courts make it very appealing for families. It's also an easy drive to and from Naples Airport.
For romantic vacations in Europe:
If you want to see Venice, the Hilton Molino Stucky is ideal. It's conveniently placed for taking gondola cruises and to see the Biennale. Water taxis from the airport arrive a few meters from the hotel door.
Ideal for a romantic break in laid-back Amsterdam, the Rembrandt Square Hotel is right at the city's heart - and next to the spectacular flower market. A taxi from Schiphol Airport takes just 14 minutes.
For luxury vacations in Europe:
London's Ritz Hotel is like a synonym for luxury. Situated on Piccadilly, it offers delicious Indian and Lebanese food, stunning furnishings and couldn't be more convenient for seeing the sights. It's also almost directly connected to Heathrow Airport via the London Tube.
Lisbon's Four Seasons Ritz Hotel is another great choice for a luxury getaway in Europe, with its Louis XVI style design, artworks in every room and relaxing urban gardens. It's just 20 minutes by car from Lisbon Airport.
For budget vacations in Europe:
A great base for exploring Germany's capital, the A&O Berlin Kolumbus is tucked away from the action but only 15 minutes from Alexanderplatz, the city's hub. This means that getting there from the airport is also quick and easy.
Copenhagen's City Hotel Nebo ticks all the boxes for budget breaks in Denmark. It has a central location and is an easy walk away from the capital's galleries and family attractions like Copenhagen Zoo. And it's just 12 minutes away from the airport by train.

Absolutely Turkey
This tour was a 6 night tour of the western parts of Turkey. There was a lot of sitting in a coach which we expected but because we were a relatively small group, we were placed into a much smaller coach which had less power, not great suspension and no toilet facilities which meant we had to stop frequently at service stations etc. We often didn't reach our hotels until after 7 pm. The sights we saw were fantastic and the balloon ride over Cappadocia plus the optional extra of staying in a cave hotel was a plus too! Unfortunately our guide was not very engaging nor was he very friendly although one could not fault him on his knowledge. I think I would encourage people to do a little more research before choosing this tour - I would give it a 6/10.
Danube Serenade: Romantic Journey from Bucharest (Turnu Magurele) to Vienna, MS Fidelio
Northern Italy: Venice to Rome (Small Group)
This was our first trip to Italy. A fabulous trip with a fantastic mix of scenery, walking , culture and food experiences. Italy is a fantastic place to travel because there are so many historically significant locations and attractions to see. We felt the tour was excellent value for money - the hotels were very good and well located, and we were surprised and impressed by the services of our tour leader Maria. She was really amazing, funny and cultivated. Perfectly organized, amazingly knowledgeable tour guide. Overall the tour exceeded expectations.Highly recommending.
Sailing Croatia - Dubrovnik to Split
Amazing trip ???? would really recommend
8 Days Scenic Montenegro Cruise
We booked the 7 nights/8 day Pearl of the Adriatic cruise for July 2019, This is a wonderful way to see and explore the Montenegro coast. The food however was a little poor in content and didn't offer much choice. However the locations visited where dinner or lunch was taken most days was certainly first class This is a holiday which offers relaxation along with the chance to view Montenegro's coastal towns. Recommended.

We attended this tour with my mom, and it was an amazing experience for us. Despite the tour lasting 10 days and including visits to 9 different destinations, we remained comfortable throughout the entire journey. We impressed by the hospitality, culture, and history of Turkey. The cities of Cappadocia, Istanbul, İzmir, and Pamukkale were our favorites, each offering a unique and memorable experience. The Hot Air Balloon ride in Cappadocia was particularly unforgettable. Experiencing the magical atmosphere of Cappadocia during sunrise was truly unique! We're truly thankful for making our trip to Turkey so memorable. Thanks for everything!!!!

13 Affordable Places to Visit in Europe — From Country Escapes to Stunning Cities
You can visit Europe on a budget — here's how.
Elizabeth Rhodes is a special projects editor at Travel + Leisure , covering everything from luxury hotels to theme parks to must-pack travel products. Originally from South Carolina, Elizabeth moved to New York City from London, where she started her career as a travel blogger and writer.
If you have big dreams of jetting off to Europe, but worry that your bank account isn't quite ready, don't worry. For every expensive city, there are dozens of charming — and surprisingly affordable — places that offer all the European charm for a fraction of the price. Ljubljana, Porto, Budapest, even Berlin — these cities have all the rich culture, stunning architecture, and delicious food that you'd find in pricey European capitals, but they're perfect for budget travelers.
You can even travel to some of Europe's best (and famously expensive) destinations without breaking the bank — you just have to know how to save money without sacrificing on experiences. Travelers can often score deals on flights from the United States to major cities like Paris or London, and upon arriving, transportation within Europe can be much more affordable (hello, budget airlines). Those large cities also offer a wide range of accommodations, so you can certainly find something in your budget. You can even save money on food by hitting the local markets. After all, a bottle of wine, fresh bread, and cheese from a Parisian market make for an unforgettable meal when picnicking under the Eiffel Tower.
And you might be surprised by how many museums, churches, and other attractions are free or inexpensive to visit, too. Be sure to keep an eye out for free entry days (often one day a month) or tourist cards that offer entry to multiple attractions for one flat fee. (Do the math ahead of time by calculating the cost of every included attraction that you want to visit to make sure it's really worth the money.)
Trimming your budget doesn't mean sacrificing the quality of your trip. Sometimes, the less you spend, the more you can immerse yourself in the local culture. Staying in a thatched Irish farmhouse, perusing old masters in Rome, or snacking your way through Spanish specialties aren't just tricks of the frugal traveler — they're the stuff dream vacations are made of.
Here are some of the top destinations for an affordable European vacation (and tips for saving money once you arrive).
Bavaria, Germany
For a storybook-worthy vacation in Europe, head straight to Bavaria. Book a room at Burg Colmberg , a 14th-century castle rising from a rocky crag above a tiny village. It offers an eclectic collection of rooms tucked throughout a warren of crooked hallways, hidden staircases, and cozy sitting nooks. Be sure to visit the postcard-perfect Neuschwanstein Castle , resplendently perched atop a mountain, and take the time to tour Hohenschwangau, the castle in which "Mad King" Ludwig II actually lived. The latter is a more modest pile of battlements on a smaller nub of a hill in the valley below. What it lacks in the carefully crafted pomp and circumstance of Neuschwanstein — which Ludwig II never lived to see completed — it more than makes up for in homeyness and history.
Puglia, Italy
Michela Sieman/Travel + Leisure
The iconic architecture of Puglia — the "heel" of Italy's boot — is the prehistoric trullo, a cylindrical whitewashed house with a cone-shaped roof of stacked gray stones. There's no greater concentration of trulli than in the UNESCO-protected town of Alberobello, where whole neighborhoods are made of the structures, and the local entrepreneur behind Trullidea has fixed up dozens of the abandoned ones and rents them to visitors. Cool in the baking summers and with cozy indoor heating for wintertime, a rental trullo lets you live like a local for less than the cost of a tourist-class hotel in town. Want to sample what the Amalfi Coast was like before the hotshots and high prices moved in? Puglia's forested Gargano Peninsula is popular with sun-loving Italians, but is otherwise refreshingly off the tourist map.
Budapest, Hungary
Alisha McDarris/Travel + Leisure
The capital of Hungary, Budapest offers all the charm of more popular European destinations for a fraction of the price. The Hungarian Parliament Building and Fisherman's Bastion are just a couple of the picture-perfect attractions you'll spot in the city, and you'll find lots of affordable accommodations, meals, and nightlife, too. Even the city's famous thermal baths — some of which are over a century old and feature beautiful architecture — can be affordable to visit.
Andalusia, Spain
Rory Fuller/Travel + Leisure
Take a break from sizzling on the crowded Costa del Sol beaches for a self-guided driving tour along the route of the Pueblos Blancos. This string of clifftop, whitewashed villages stretches from the Moorish town of Arcos de la Frontera through the Sierra de Grazalema to Ronda, a maze of medieval streets perched above a 500-foot gorge. Opt for a stay in nearby Seville — the capital of Andalusia — to take in the beautiful architecture, watch some flamenco dancing, and indulge in classic tapas.
Berlin, Germany
Berlin has Cold War mystique, contemporary architecture, and booming gallery and restaurant scenes. With its cosmopolitan, East-meets-West edginess, it's no wonder the city has become a cultural capital of central Europe. It's a destination that continues to attract creative types and in-the-know travelers. Begin your trip to Berlin in the fashionable Mitte (or "middle") district, as it's convenient to major sites such as the Reichstag and Potsdamer Platz.
Bath and the Cotswolds, England
The charming villages of the Cotswolds look like they're straight out of a fairy tale — Chipping Campden, Stow-on-the-Wold, and Bourton-on-the-Water are among the prettiest. There are inns and pubs sprinkled throughout the little towns, but we'd suggest staying in Bath, a quaint city dating back to the Roman era, for its variety of accommodations. While there, check out the Royal Crescent, Pulteney Bridge, Bath Abbey, and of course, the historic Roman baths. Best of all, Bath is under two hours from London by train, making it an easy weekend trip from the city.
Istanbul, Turkey
Istanbul's major state-run museums may charge hefty admissions, but the Great Palace Mosaic Museum, just behind the Blue Mosque adjacent to the Arasta Bazaar, costs only 60 Turkish lira (that's about $4). These delightful mosaic scenes of hunts, myths, animal battles, and everyday life in antiquity — boys riding a camel, a man milking his goat — once covered the floor of a large courtyard of the Palatium Magnum, the Great Palace built between the time of Constantine the Great himself and Justinian I (fourth to early sixth centuries). You can even cruise between the continents for an affordable price when taking the ferry.
Ljubljana, Slovenia
Take a tour of the architectural masterworks of prodigious local talent Jože Plecnik, who took the Secessionist Art Nouveau style he learned in Vienna back home (via Prague) to remake his native city along his own, idiosyncratic lines. Like Gaudí in Barcelona, Plecnik designed his buildings right down to the smallest fittings, like the Pegasus door handles on the entrance to the National and University Library. Plecnik designed a bit of everything around town, from the central market to the two flanking spans of Ljubljana's iconic Triple Bridge to the café-lined embankments of the Ljubljanica River. The city also has a number of incredible, affordable restaurants, and you can take a public bus (for a small fee) to nearby Lake Bled for a day trip.
The Dalmatian Coast, Croatia
Skip the overexposed island of Hvar for the walled medieval village on the Adriatic island of Korcula, purported home to Marco Polo. Korcula is more of a day-trip destination, and that means the tourist crowds thin considerably by sundown, leaving those who remain to relax in the cafés and stroll the narrow alleys. While every old city in Europe has an Old City historic district, Split has the only downtown actually carved from the carcass of an ancient Roman palace. When the emperor Diocletian left his throne in A.D. 305, he built a lavish palace on the Croatian coast to live out his days as head of the empire's eastern half. In the 1,700 years since, the ruins of his enormous structure have been colonized by the locals, the buildings turned into medieval town houses, and the emperor's tomb transformed into the cathedral.
Paris, France
Want to experience fabulous French cuisine on a budget? Opt for a midday splurge — many cafés and restaurants offer less expensive menus at lunch. And a picnic is always a good idea in Paris. Stop by a market to peruse the (typically) extensive options for cheese and wine, or pick up a simple yet delicious crepe from a stand. If you plan to visit the City of Light's top museums and attractions, you might want to invest in a Paris Museum Pass . For one fee (priced depending on the number of days you purchase), you can gain admission to top tourist spots like the Arc de Triomphe, Sainte-Chapelle, Panthéon, Louvre, Musée Rodin, and more, and you get to skip the ticket line. Talk about a win-win.
County Clare, Ireland
Irjaliina Paavonpera/Travel + Leisure
Avoid the tour bus-clogged Ring of Kerry for its neighbor to the north, County Clare, home to the dramatic Cliffs of Moher rising more than 700 feet from the crashing Atlantic waves; the weirdly eroded limestone landscape of the Burren, where prehistoric slab tombs perch on the rocky flatlands like miniature houses of cards; and Doolin, a blink-and-you'll-miss-it village that has become a popular destination for traditional Celtic music. Local pubs are the perfect evening stop for hearty (and usually affordable) Irish fare and — if you're lucky — live music.
Rome, Italy
Daniel Gorostieta/Travel + Leisure
Rome has more than 900 churches, all of them free, displaying great works of art and architecture by the likes of Raphael, Bernini, Caravaggio, Bramante, and Pinturicchio. And that's just the short list of artists contained in one church — the little-visited Santa Maria del Popolo. Other iconic landmarks, like the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, and Rome's famous piazzas are all free to visit, too, and some museums offer free entry days, so check their websites for details.
Porto, Portugal
Paula Galindo Valle/Travel + Leisure
Portugal's northern city of Porto is among Travel + Leisure readers' favorite European cities, and once you visit, you'll see why. In Porto, visitors can admire the Art Deco architecture, sip port wine, and explore the walkable city on foot without going over budget. Plus, a day trip to the Douro Valley, a picturesque vineyard region along the Douro River, is worth the trek.

A European vacation is a trip many of us dream about. Art, history, culture, architecture, food — there’s something for everyone in Europe. As you can imagine, that all comes with a hefty price tag.
While a trip to Europe can be expensive, there are ways to save money . One of those ways is to purchase a vacation package. When you purchase a package consisting of flights and hotels (and even rail tickets, in the case of Europe) there’s a good chance you’ll save money. While it’s not a guarantee, we’ve found the prices of packages are usually less expensive than purchasing flights and hotels separately.
Since there are lots of places to purchase vacation packages, we wanted to narrow it down for you. These 9 websites all offer European vacation packages and will be a great starting point for planning your vacation.
Eurailing Packages is a little different than the rest of our featured websites because instead of a traditional hotel and airfare package, it offers packages that bundle accommodations and train tickets . This will be handy for vacation packages within Europe, but not necessarily for getting to Europe.
Since train travel is very popular in Europe, we thought this was a great option to include in this list. You can choose from the site’s predesigned packages and current deals, or you can build your custom accommodation and rail package.
Something thing to keep in mind when using this website is that the price includes a hostel, not a hotel . You’ll have the option to pay extra for a hotel when you’re finalizing the details of your trip but you won’t know the specific hotel or room type until after your booking is complete.
Hot Tip: Use points and miles to fly to Europe when your vacation package only includes accommodations and rail tickets.
Grand European Travel might be a good place to search for a European vacation package if you’d like the planning done for you. This website offers lots of predesigned trips but doesn’t have the option to make your own. For someone who doesn’t want to do the legwork of planning a trip, that could be a welcome benefit.
If you decide to book a vacation package through Grand European Travel, keep in mind that solo travelers will default to a shared room. If you’d rather have private accommodations, you can select that during the checkout process for an additional charge.
Another nice thing about booking through Grand European Tours is that in addition to only needing to pay a deposit to reserve your trip, you can get a full refund if you need to cancel within 30 days . You can also change your departure date or destination free of charge until 60 days before your trip.
Costco Travel is another great site that can help you find the perfect European vacation. You can choose a curated package or design your own.
While you have to be a Costco member to purchase Costco Travel, you can search for a package without a membership. Often, packages purchased through Costco Travel will come with a Costco Shop Card or extra perks which can more than make up for the price of the membership. Plus, Executive members earn 2% back on purchases, including those from Costco Travel.
If you’re an Executive Member, be sure to keep an eye out for extra perks on your vacation package. These can often make up for the additional cost of an Executive Membership.
Take a look at some of the member benefits we found on a London and Paris vacation package:
- $400 London tour credit
- Daily breakfast
- £35 food and beverage credit at the London hotel (Executive Members)
- Fruit basket and chocolates at the Paris hotel (Executive Members)
Bottom Line: You have to be a Costco member to purchase a vacation package from Costco Travel, but you can check prices without being a member. Often, a package will come with perks or even a Costco Shop Card that can more than make up for the cost of a membership. For more information, check out our guide to using Costco Travel .
Booking a European trip through Delta Vacations can be a great way to earn lots of Delta SkyMiles .
You’ll also want to keep an eye out for deals that will award you extra bonus points. At the time of writing, you could get up to a $400 Delta gift card or up to 75,000 Delta SkyMiles for booking a flight and hotel package .
You can earn an additional 2 to 3 SkyMiles per $1 spent when you use a Delta co-branded credit card , too.
If you’d rather use Delta SkyMiles to pay for your vacation package, you can do that, too. You can pay for all or part of your vacation with your miles at 1 cent each in value . That’s just about what we value Delta SkyMiles at, so this can represent a good use of miles.
Bottom Line: You can either earn or use SkyMiles for a vacation package purchased through Delta Vacations.
Expedia is a tried-and-true website for booking travel because it’s easy to use and often has great deals. Your European vacation package can be customized to include flights, a hotel, and even a rental car.
The map feature is a great tool for finding a hotel in the perfect location , and there are lots of filtering options that will help narrow your search results even more.
Expedia participates in the One Key rewards program which allows you to earn and use points on eligible trips and access special member pricing . This is a good way to earn rewards when you don’t participate in a hotel chain’s loyalty program or are booking a hotel that doesn’t have its own loyalty program.
For more information including how to use the One Key program, check out our guide to using Expedia to find great deals on travel .
Hot Tip: If you choose a hotel that has its own loyalty program (Hyatt, Marriott, Hilton, etc.) you won’t earn hotel points when you book through a third-party website, nor will your elite status be recognized. If hotel points and elite status are important to you, you may want to consider booking direct.
Kayak is a great tool for finding hotels, flights, and vacation packages. It’s a metasearch engine so the prices you’ll see will be from other websites most of the time (though you can occasionally book directly through Kayak). It’s a great way to compare prices from lots of other sites at the same time.
You can use the handy map feature to search for hotels by location or use the filtering options to find a hotel that offers a perk that’s important to you like free breakfast or free parking. There are also options to choose any property type — from apartments to hostels to resorts and everything in between.
Hot Tip: For more information, check out our guide to booking travel with Kayak .
United Vacations is a great website to use to search for European vacation packages, especially if you like flying United or live near a United hub that will have lots of flight options.
It can also be a great option for anyone who wants to earn more United MileagePlus miles — you’ll earn them on your vacation package if you provide your membership number at booking. Unfortunately, you can’t redeem United miles for your trip.
This site has many of the sorting and filtering options you’d find on other sites, and you can even add extras like trip insurance or airport transfers to your package.
Bottom Line: You’ll earn United MileagePlus miles when you book a package through United Vacations, but you can’t redeem miles for any part of your trip. Instead, check out these ideas when you’re ready to spend your miles.
CheapTickets is a popular online travel agency for hotels, flights, rental cars, and vacation packages. It’s owned by Expedia so it has the same functionality as that site, but it often has different pricing, so it’s worth checking them both out.
During the booking process, you’ll be able to add extras like airport transportation, a rental car, activities, and trip insurance .
Hot Tip: Before you add trip protection from an online travel agency like CheapTickets, be sure to read up on the policy for your credit card with travel insurance so you don’t end up buying something you may already have. You might also want to price out a policy with a few travel insurance companies to compare plans and prices before you book your trip.
Booking a European vacation package through Priceline is a straightforward and easy process. You can search for any combination of flights, hotels, and cars under the Bundle + Save search tab on the home page. The search results will quickly give you hotel information including the price and how much you can expect to save on the package.
Priceline has its own loyalty program called Priceline VIP that offers discounts, a best rate guarantee, and Express Deal coupons. While these perks are available as soon as you join, the discounts get bigger and better as you reach new status tiers within the program.
Hotel savings start at 10% for all members and go up to 50% on over 45,000 hotels for top-tier VIP Platinum members . Additionally, those with VIP Member or VIP Blue status will get a 5% Express Deal coupon after every trip, VIP Gold members get an 8% Express Deal coupon after every trip, and VIP Platinum members get a 10% Express Deal coupon after every trip.
Hot Tip: Make sure you’re earning lots of points by using a credit card that’s great for purchasing vacation packages .
Now let’s get to the important part — price comparisons. Since it’s hard to compare prices head-to-head for custom packages and ones that include rail tickets, we’ll only be looking at the sites where you can design your own.
Package #1: 6 nights in Paris at Sofitel Arc de Triomphe plus round-trip airfare from Atlanta (ATL) for 2 adults.
Package #2: 6 nights in London at St. Ermin’s Hotel, Autograph Collection plus round-trip airfare from Dallas-Ft. Worth (DFW) for 2 adults.
*Includes daily continental breakfast, airport transfers, and a guaranteed room upgrade.
For the first example, Expedia has the lowest price by far and the package even includes breakfast! Costco Travel was the most expensive. In the second example, Kayak and Priceline were the lowest-priced options with United Vacations coming in as the most expensive.
As you can see, there’s not a single website that always has the best prices, so it’s always a good idea to price out your vacation package on a few different websites to see where you can get the best deal.
Booking a vacation package for your trip to Europe can be a great way to save some money on a hotel, flights, and even train tickets. Since no single website will always have the best prices, it’s a good idea to price out your trip in a few different places to make sure you’re getting the best deal.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do i plan an affordable european vacation.
There are a few things you can do to keep costs down on your European vacation. First, focus on budget hotels since the prices for luxury accommodations can add up quickly. You can also focus on hotels you can book with points. Consider getting a rail pass or inexpensive economy flights to get around to different countries within Europe. To fly to Europe, you can book your flights with airline miles, or look for a vacation package that includes flights and hotels to keep your costs low.
Where can I find multi-country European vacation packages?
Many websites let you put together a European vacation package that includes stops in multiple countries. Check out Eurailing Packages, Grand European Travel, or Costco Travel for multi-country itineraries.
Where can I find the best Europe tour packages?
There are many websites that offer different options so you can customize a package that fits your needs. Try Eurailing Packages for packages that include rail tickets or Grand European Travel for multi-country itineraries. Expedia, Priceline, and Kayak are all good sites to find cheap European vacation packages.
Are vacation packages actually cheaper?
While vacation packages aren’t cheaper 100% of the time, they usually offer a savings over booking a hotel stay and airfare separately. That being said, you should always price out everything separately and as a package to ensure you’re getting a good deal.

Europe has the peerless history, celebrated artwork (Mona Lisa, anyone?), diverse architecture and breathtaking natural beauty to put most continents to shame. Best of all, your Europe travels don't have to cost a small fortune. Because if you know where to go, you'll find that from the tip of the French Alps down to the sandy shores of Turkey there is a treasure trove of funds-friendly delights waiting.
Let CheapTickets show you the best places to visit on your Europe vacation while leaving your wallet happily unscathed.
Best time to take a vacation to Europe
Due to the size of the continent, there are extremes in temperatures all year round. Summer can be extremely warm especially in southern countries like Greece, Turkey, and Spain, attracting huge crowds. Northern Europe tends to be a little cooler and winters can be quite harsh the further east you travel. If you are touring in July, don't miss the Edinburgh Military Tattoo in front of the splendid castle, or the sounds and color of London's famous Notting Hill Carnival. The Paris Fashion week in March is a real eye-opener, but if you schedule a visit to Munich during Oktoberfest, a 200-year old beer festival, you’ll be a very happy individual.
Popular Europe experiences
For many years Berlin was encased in a cocoon of social and political turmoil, yet it has since emerged as the spirited, beating heart of European modernity, culture and creativity. From lazy brunching to hard partying, Berlin has you covered on your Europe travels. Buy a Berlin WelcomeCard to cover your transit needs, plus admission into over 130 of Berlin's best attractions, including the Archenhold-SternwarteTreptow and the Jewish Museum.
The city may be over 750 years old, but Krakow is still looking fine. With Renaissance architecture lining the streets and gorgeous artwork everywhere, you may be surprised to learn that Krakow is one of Poland's cheapest cultural hotspots. From the immensity of the Old Town to the WWII melancholy still felt in the former Jewish quarter, Kazimeirz, there is an abundance of attractions hidden around every corner.
Hop aboard a double-decker bus for sightseeing Old Blighty on the cheap. London landmarks on bus 11, for example, include Westminster Abbey, Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and St. Paul's Cathedral. Pomp and circumstance are free at Buckingham Palace's Changing of the Guard, steps from Trafalgar Square. But if witnessing the bewigged hold court suits your free-seeking fancy, head to the infamous Old Bailey. And the crown jewel of cheap London travel: Most museums are free, including the V&A, British Museum and National Gallery.
Paris woos with its museums, seduces with chocolate, and romances in Jardin des Tuileries. But a Europe vacation in Paris doesn't have to mean one big, costly affair. Even on a budget, you'll sail down the Siene between visits to the Louvre, Musee d'Orsay and Notre-Dame, and climb the steps of Sacre-Coeur in Montmartre. Bronze with the French during the annual Paris Plage, a summer event when the Right Bank becomes a free public beach.
For the price of a gelato, you can saunter cinematic streets where scooters zip through rustic piazzas and the love-struck throw coins into bubbling fountains. Scale the Spanish Steps, the longest staircase in Europe, and visit the Villa Borghese's verdant (and free) gardens. Take the tykes to Park Gianicolo where traditional puppet shows are performed daily. And because this is the Eternal City, enjoy unlimited, free forays to the Pantheon, Constantine's Arch near the Colosseum and the Trevi Fountain (OK, toss a coin). Pay a small admission fee to view the Vatican Museums near St Peter's Basilica, or visit on last Sundays when admission is free.

These are the cheapest European package holidays for summer 2024
The likes of Spain, Greece and Italy are surprisingly some of the most affordable, according to Which? Travel
Plenty of us love the freedom of browsing for the most convenient flights and then for the perfect little hotel. However, sometimes it’s nice to save on time, faff and money by booking a package holiday – and thanks to a new ranking, we now know exactly where to go for the cheapest package trips across Europe .
The experts at Which? Travel have analysed over 4,500 holidays that are still available to book for this summer, and compiled a list of the ten cheapest destinations offering a package deal.
And the best value deals might not be where you’d expect. Places such as Bulgaria and Türkiye have garnered quite the budget-friendly rep, but classic holiday hot spots such as Greece , Spain and Italy actually boast some of the cheapest options for 2024.
Claiming the top spot is Kalymnos , a lesser-known Dodecanese island in Greece characterised by secluded little coves and ridiculously blue waters. The cheapest holiday was £794 per person, but the average here is £847 (€987.50). Given it’s around a 40-minute boat ride from Kos, that’s a pretty good deal.
In fourth place, it’s the Costa Brava in Spain – we know, we’re shocked too. The gorgeous stretch of coast just north of Barcelona has some cracking beaches, and the package holiday price here is around £952 (€1,110) per person.
But the biggest and maybe most pleasant surprise of all is that the Amalfi Coast has made the top 10, in spot number six. At around £977 (€1,139), this typically expensive region actually boasts a couple of low-key resorts such as Minori and Maiori , which are great options for a cheaper getaway. What ’ s more, the region will soon be getting an airport , finally !
These are the 10 cheapest European package holiday destinations, according to Which? Travel
- Kalymnos, Greece (£847, €987.50)
- Thassos, Greece (£862, €1,005)
- Lefkada, Greece (£935, €1,090)
- Costa Brava, Spain (£952, €1,110)
- Venetian Riviera, Italy (£965, €1,125)
- Amalfi Coast, Italy (£977, €1,139)
- Skopelos, Greece (£985, €1,148)
- Costa de la Luz, Spain (£994, €1,159)
- Campania, Italy (£998, €1,164)
- Malta (£1,006, €1,173)

New research has revealed the most affordable package holiday destinations in Europe , with some surprising results ahead of what promises to be busy summer of travel in 2024.
Destinations including the Amalfi Coast, Malta and various Greek islands feature among the cheapest European destinations for a summer getaway.
A study from Which? analysed over 4,500 package holidays across 70 regions in 15 European countries – from providers including Jet2holidays and Tui – to find the best deals during the busy summer break, when school holidays mean anyone taking a trip is subject to some of the highest holiday prices.
Room-only, self-catered and bed and breakfast accommodation was analysed for seven nights over a period beginning around 3 August, with traditionally low-cost destinations like Bulgaria and Turkey absent from the list.
Instead, destinations across more expensive countries such as Greece and Italy were common. These places benefit from a large selection of accommodation options and readily available, often cheaper flights.
Top of the list was the Greek island of Kalymnos, with a week’s stay costing £847 per person on average (including flights and transfers). Visitors usually fly into the more well-known resort of Kos, before transferring to this island of secluded coves, emerald seas, rugged coastline, and charming towns.
Taking a close second place behind Kalymnos are Greek islands Thassos, at £862 per person, and Lefkada, at £935 per person.
The Costa Brava, a stretch of coastline north of Barcelona , took fourth place, with average prices coming in at £952 per person. The fifth-placed destination was Italy’s Venetian Riviera – specifically Lido di Jesolo – at £965, while the Amalfi Coast – famed for its glitz and accompanying high prices – came in at sixth, with an average cost of £977 per person.
Which? also analysed the cheapest destinations for all-inclusive holidays, with Tenerife coming up with the most affordable rates, at an average of £1,097 per person for seven nights. The Costa Blanca, Fuerteventura, Bourgas in Bulgaria and Dalaman, Turkey, rounded off the top five most affordable all-inclusive destinations, with average prices between £1,103 to £1,125 per person for seven nights.
Rory Boland, editor of Which? Travel , said: “Travelling in the summer holidays is notoriously expensive, and demand is again high this year - but our latest price analysis shows that by being flexible on your destination, you can potentially save hundreds of pounds.
“From tiny, traditional Greek islands to the glitzy Amalfi coast, there are bargains to be found this summer.”
